Hello, I'm Sally Taylor, welcome to south Today. In the programme: | :00:08. | :00:12.
Three people are injured after a helicopter crashes near a city | :00:12. | :00:18.
centre. There was one plan on the floor, he | :00:18. | :00:22.
looked unconscious, the other two were helping each other out. | :00:22. | :00:25.
Profits warning - Southampton Airport's biggest operator feels | :00:25. | :00:29.
the pinch as it faces challenging times. | :00:29. | :00:34.
Radyi for action - the first deployment of the navy's newest | :00:34. | :00:38.
class of Destroyer -- ready for action. Olympic triple gold | :00:38. | :00:42.
medallist Ben Ainslie reflects on that moment on the water Down Under. | :00:42. | :00:47.
25 years of racing at the highest level, I've never seen anything | :00:47. | :00:57.
:00:57. | :01:00. | ||
like it. Very disappointing for all Three people have been injured, one | :01:01. | :01:06.
seriously, after a helicopter crashed in Salisbury. The | :01:06. | :01:10.
helicopter hit a tree and came down in churchfields industrial estate | :01:10. | :01:15.
just after 7.30am. People working nearby described seeing the | :01:15. | :01:19.
helicopter flying low before hearing a bang. Rachael's been at | :01:19. | :01:25.
the crash scene today and joins us from there now. | :01:25. | :01:28.
When paramedics and fire crews arrived on the scene this morning, | :01:28. | :01:32.
all three men had managed to get out of the helicopter. Two of them | :01:32. | :01:38.
were about where I'm standing now. Tonight, I can still smell the | :01:38. | :01:41.
aviation fuel. It's seeped into the ground around me. Above, the | :01:41. | :01:45.
branches have been sliced through by the row tar blades of the | :01:45. | :01:49.
helicopter. One police officer said today he thought it was amazing it | :01:49. | :01:53.
hadn't just burst into thraims on impact and everyone managed to get | :01:53. | :01:57.
out -- flames on impact and everyone managed to get out. The | :01:57. | :02:02.
emergency call came just after 9.30. People working nearby watched the | :02:02. | :02:06.
helicopter in trouble over these trees. He looked as if he was going | :02:06. | :02:10.
to land in the field at the back and then all of a sudden, the tail | :02:10. | :02:15.
end of the helicopter came up and he went down and sort of | :02:15. | :02:18.
counteracted it, then it disappeared and you heard the | :02:18. | :02:23.
engines cut out. It flipped over and tried to nose dive into the | :02:23. | :02:26.
ground. I don't know how the pilot managed to pull the nose back up | :02:26. | :02:32.
again. We saw the nose come back up, not horizontal, and then obviously | :02:32. | :02:36.
it thuded into the ground. pilot and his passengers, all men | :02:36. | :02:40.
in their 40s, had taken off from Bath this morning. As it came down, | :02:40. | :02:45.
onlookers from the Churchfield industrial estate clambered through | :02:45. | :02:51.
the woodland to help. There was a man on the floor, he | :02:51. | :02:55.
was unconscious, the other two were helping each other out of the | :02:55. | :03:00.
aircraft. All three were injured, one had a nasty gash on the hid. | :03:00. | :03:05.
There were people the other side of the river shouting fire, so we got | :03:05. | :03:09.
a fire extinguisher from the workshop and I did my best to put | :03:09. | :03:14.
the smoke out from the engine -- gash on the head. Two men were | :03:14. | :03:17.
airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. The third man was taken | :03:17. | :03:22.
to Salisbury district hospital in an ambulance. Police say the pilot | :03:22. | :03:26.
has a head injury and all three men have injuries to their back and | :03:26. | :03:30.
legs but police say it was remarkable no-one was killed. | :03:30. | :03:33.
been extensively damaged and we are amazed anyone's escaped, but we are | :03:34. | :03:36.
delighted that we have three people out of the aircraft and that | :03:37. | :03:41.
they're not seriously injured. Investigators have spent the day | :03:41. | :03:44.
here examining the crash scene and spooking to witnesses. But Sally, | :03:45. | :03:49.
what we still don't know this evening is where the helicopter was | :03:49. | :03:55.
heading, who was on board and what caused it to crash in the woodlands. | :03:55. | :03:59.
Three men have been charged with kofpb spiring to steal more than 2 | :03:59. | :04:03.
million from the University of Sussex. Two men from Leicester aged | :04:03. | :04:07.
35 and 36, and a 33-year-old from Dewsbury in West Yorkshire are | :04:07. | :04:11.
accused of conspiring to steal in October 2010. It's alleged money | :04:11. | :04:15.
paid by the university for building work on new student accommodation | :04:15. | :04:24.
was unlawfully diverted to an unrelated account. The men appear - | :04:24. | :04:26.
- appeared in Magistrates Court today. | :04:27. | :04:29.
The biggest airline at Southampton Airport warned it's making | :04:29. | :04:35.
significantly less money today than it expected. Flybe's share price | :04:35. | :04:39.
dropped by a fifth and the airline said it was cutting flights. I'm | :04:39. | :04:42.
joined by our Transport Correspondent, Paul Clifton here in | :04:42. | :04:47.
the studio. Sounds serious? It is. This is a second profits warning | :04:47. | :04:53.
from Flybe. Why does that matter? Flybe is the overwhelmingly | :04:53. | :04:56.
dominant operator at Southampton Airport, operating three out of | :04:56. | :05:04.
four flights there. It serves 36 of the airports -- airport's 48 routes, | :05:04. | :05:08.
including the most particular services. Flybe says it's cut the | :05:08. | :05:13.
flights in the UK by 6prst this winter because of falling demand -- | :05:13. | :05:18.
6%. Southampton Airport says it hasn't seen the level of drop-off | :05:18. | :05:24.
in demand that other airports have. What impact is it having? Fliebe | :05:24. | :05:30.
expanded rapidly for a decade, now it's selling off surplus planes | :05:30. | :05:34.
instead -- Flybe. The share price dropped today by 20% and it stands | :05:34. | :05:38.
a at a sixth of the value it reached a year ago. Analysts say it | :05:38. | :05:43.
won't turn a profit this year, Flybe itself describes business as | :05:43. | :05:50.
challenging, but it says it has a strong future in the long-term.-- | :05:50. | :05:53.
Southampton Airport depends heavily on Flybe. So what does it say about | :05:53. | :05:59.
the health of the airports? People are feeling the pinch, flying less. | :05:59. | :06:03.
Partly that's due to the rising cost of fuel, pushing up fares. | :06:03. | :06:07.
It's also, according to the airlines down partly to increasing | :06:07. | :06:12.
taxation. Business travel's down a little, leisure travel is down more, | :06:12. | :06:14.
Bournemouth Airport's seen passenger numbers fall, though | :06:14. | :06:19.
Gatwick is doing very well. It's still growing. Transport is a key | :06:20. | :06:23.
indicator of the state of the economy. When it picks up, people | :06:23. | :06:28.
will go back to flying and travelling more. But in the short- | :06:28. | :06:33.
term, airports and airlines are facing a bumpy ride. One analyst | :06:33. | :06:36.
told me, don't expect a bounce back any time soon. | :06:36. | :06:39.
Thank you very much. A former Metropolitan police | :06:39. | :06:42.
officer living in Berkshire has been arrested on suspicion of | :06:42. | :06:46.
misconduct in public office and Data Protection Act offences. The | :06:46. | :06:49.
man is being questioned at a Thames Valley police station by | :06:49. | :06:52.
investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission. A | :06:52. | :06:56.
spokesperson said the arrest related to the alleged passing of | :06:56. | :06:58.
unauthorised information to a journalist. | :06:58. | :07:02.
Thousands of commuters were caught in traffic chaos during this | :07:02. | :07:07.
morn's's rush hour after a lorry spilled diesel along a 16 mile | :07:07. | :07:13.
route between Surrey and Hampshire. It began to leak from Farnborough | :07:13. | :07:17.
to Knaphill. It led to some accidents which caused some roads | :07:17. | :07:20.
to be closed. An investigation is under way. | :07:21. | :07:24.
Manipulative and devious, words used in court to describe the man | :07:24. | :07:28.
accused of murdering Hampshire pensioner Georgina Edmonds. The | :07:28. | :07:31.
prosecution claimed Matthew Hamlen tried to set up a false alibi for | :07:31. | :07:38.
the day the 77-year-old was beaten to death in January 2008. 33-year- | :07:38. | :07:48.
:07:48. | :07:49. | ||
old from bishop Stoke denies murder. Georgina Edmonds was found dead. | :07:49. | :07:54.
Today a court was told a man accused of her murder tried to | :07:54. | :07:58.
concoct a false alibi. Police recorded Matthew Hamlen talking to | :07:58. | :08:03.
his mother while he was in police custody following his arrest in | :08:03. | :08:13.
:08:13. | :08:18. | ||
Today, the court heard that Matthew Hamlen hadn't known Gary or Sarah | :08:18. | :08:25.
at the time of the murder. Michael BeausQC prosecuting said "What you | :08:25. | :08:29.
were doing was setting your mother up so see if she would go round and | :08:29. | :08:36.
see if Gary would do you a favour." "what you did was extremely | :08:36. | :08:39.
manipulative and devious". Hamlen said he'd never set his mother up. | :08:39. | :08:44.
He told the court "this was a private conversation with my mum." | :08:44. | :08:48.
he said at no point did he give police a false alibi. The | :08:48. | :08:51.
prosecution Saima thue Hamlen repeatedly stabbed Mrs Edmonds | :08:51. | :08:59.
before beating her to death with a rolling pin. -- -- say Matthew | :08:59. | :09:09.
:09:09. | :09:12. | ||
Hamlen. The prosecutor said Mr Hamlen was not in a great place in | :09:12. | :09:17.
2008. Mr Hamlen said that wasn't the case and went on to say "I did | :09:17. | :09:20.
not kill Mrs Edmonds, I would not and could not do something like | :09:20. | :09:24.
that, you can twist the facts and figures however you like, but that | :09:24. | :09:33.
doesn't change the fact this wasn't me". The case continues. | :09:33. | :09:37.
Fireworks which shot into a crowd of spectators causing some minor | :09:37. | :09:42.
injuries at a Christmas festival were set up incorrectly due to | :09:42. | :09:45.
ambiguous instructions on the box according to the organisers. An | :09:45. | :09:48.
investigation was launched following the accident at the | :09:48. | :09:51.
Blandford Yuletide Festival in December in which six rockets went | :09:51. | :09:55.
off in the wrong direction. Dorset Trading Standards says it will | :09:55. | :09:59.
contact the manufacturers. The festival organisers will seek | :09:59. | :10:02.
additional advice for next year's event. | :10:02. | :10:10.
Stay with us because still to come: The cooperative workers toasting | :10:10. | :10:19.
their hopes for a business success. An investigation has started after | :10:19. | :10:25.
a fire damaged 11 cars on Portland. Firefighters were called overnight | :10:25. | :10:30.
following the blaze which broke out next to Inmosthay Quarry. Two | :10:30. | :10:33.
shipping containers, an empty horse box and mobile building were all | :10:34. | :10:39.
damaged in the fire. People who enjoy diving in the | :10:39. | :10:43.
waters off the Dorset coast have started a campaign to save the | :10:43. | :10:47.
search and rescue helicopter which is based at Portland. The | :10:47. | :10:52.
Department for Transport plans to concern trait south coast cover at | :10:53. | :10:56.
Lee on the Solent in Hampshire. Divers say lives are at risk and | :10:56. | :11:02.
they will take their message to the Prime Minister tomorrow. | :11:03. | :11:06.
The waters around Weymouth and Dorset are a Mecca for divers with | :11:06. | :11:11.
200 wrecks within 20 miles. Even in January, expert divers like Nigel | :11:11. | :11:15.
Holder have no hesitation in setting out, secure in the | :11:15. | :11:19.
knowledge that the coastguard helicopters are close at hand if he | :11:19. | :11:25.
gets into difficulty, as they have done in the past. A diver suffering | :11:25. | :11:28.
from decompression sickness, the injuries are dependent on time. The | :11:28. | :11:32.
longer you leave it, the worse the injuries, so the quick response is | :11:32. | :11:36.
very important. On one occasion, we had a lady who I was diving at the | :11:36. | :11:41.
time with her, she said that she couldn't move her legs and she was | :11:41. | :11:47.
losing her sight. The helicopter was there within five minutes. | :11:47. | :11:52.
year, 45 divers were taken to the decompression chamber at Poole. The | :11:52. | :11:57.
current plan is for ten helicopters stationed equally around the coast. | :11:57. | :12:01.
But divers argue they should be placed where they are needed most. | :12:01. | :12:06.
With a quarter of Britain's total helicopter resources coordinated by | :12:06. | :12:10.
Brixham, Portland or Lee-on-Solent, the Dorset MP Richard Drax believes | :12:10. | :12:18.
a quarter of the resources should be available. We had a diver swept | :12:18. | :12:21.
around Portland who, some would say, might have been drowned or lost for | :12:21. | :12:26.
longer had it not been for the fact the helicopter was there within | :12:26. | :12:29.
minutes. Tomorrow he'll make his case directly to the Prime Minister. | :12:29. | :12:33.
The Department of Transport says the plan to shut Portland and RAF | :12:33. | :12:39.
Bulmer in the north-east will not compromise safety. Recently, they | :12:39. | :12:42.
spent 5 million on the new coastguard centre which will have a | :12:42. | :12:47.
high profile during the Olympics. It's not just the divers worried | :12:47. | :12:51.
about rescue cover, with plans for a new ferry service from Weymouth | :12:51. | :12:55.
to France and huge offshore windfarms in the pipeline as the | :12:55. | :13:03.
cuts take effect, the demand for the helicopter services is rising. | :13:03. | :13:07.
Part of the M4 near Reading will be closed tonight to undergo essential | :13:07. | :13:12.
maintenance. Work will be carried out where the motorway crosses the | :13:12. | :13:17.
river Lodden between junctions 10 and 11. Diversions will be in place | :13:17. | :13:21.
between 10 and 5.30 tomorrow morning. | :13:21. | :13:25.
A new chapter in the history of the Royal Navy will begin tomorrow when | :13:25. | :13:30.
HMS Daring sets sail for the Middle East. It's the first time one of | :13:30. | :13:34.
the navy's new 1 billion Type-45 Destroyers has been sent on an | :13:34. | :13:41.
operational deployment. It comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf. | :13:41. | :13:47.
There have been hundreds of last- minute jobs for the crew of HMS | :13:47. | :13:50.
Daring as the countdown continues to the start of her voyage to the | :13:50. | :13:54.
Middle East. It's the first time one of the navy's new Type-45 | :13:54. | :13:58.
Destroyers is going on an operational deployment. It comes | :13:58. | :14:01.
after months or training and testing, much of it revolving | :14:01. | :14:05.
around the ship's sophisticated radar and missile system. | :14:05. | :14:10.
I think everyone's really excited. It's been such a big build-up and | :14:10. | :14:14.
workup to get to this point. Everyone's keen to get going to do | :14:14. | :14:18.
what they've been trained for. key part is that this is Daring, it | :14:18. | :14:22.
feels special to be part of it because of that fact, she's the | :14:22. | :14:25.
first of the class, the first of the deployment. The Ministry of | :14:26. | :14:29.
Defence is describing it as a routine deployment, but it comes | :14:29. | :14:34.
against a background of increased tensions in the Middle East with | :14:34. | :14:37.
Iran threatening to close the straits of Hormuz, a vital artery | :14:37. | :14:42.
for oil shipments. Events can unfold rapidly, as we saw with | :14:42. | :14:46.
Libya last year, so I wouldn't put any money or what may or may not | :14:46. | :14:49.
happen. We are deploying on a routine operation but are ready for | :14:49. | :14:56.
anything. The navy is getting six Type-45s, each costing 1 billion. | :14:56. | :15:00.
The ships were built in huge sections, the front end constructed | :15:00. | :15:04.
in Portsmouth. All the parts were assembled on the Clyde in Scotland. | :15:04. | :15:10.
HMS Daring first arrived in Portsmouth on a cold misty morning | :15:10. | :15:14.
in January 2009. Tomorrow she leave force the warmth | :15:14. | :15:20.
and sunshine of the Middle East. She'll be aware -- away for seven | :15:20. | :15:24.
months. HMS Daring leaving Portsmouth | :15:24. | :15:28.
tomorrow. A project to try to stop rare wildlife being destroyed on | :15:28. | :15:33.
Portland in Dorset has just been launched. Portland in Peril aims to | :15:33. | :15:36.
halt an alien plant invasion. It's being funded with hundreds of | :15:36. | :15:42.
thousands of pounds from the landfill tax. | :15:42. | :15:47.
Experts from Dorset Wildlife Trust are on Safari, making their way | :15:47. | :15:51.
through disused quarries on Portland. But it's not big gain | :15:51. | :15:58.
they're after, it's something much more down-to-earth. Jess and John | :15:58. | :16:04.
are wanting to seek out and destroy a common garden plant which has | :16:04. | :16:08.
gone wild and which is smuggling natural habitats which are | :16:08. | :16:14.
important for rare species, such as the Common blue, Adonis blue and | :16:14. | :16:19.
Chalkhill blue butterflies. You can see this has gone back in. We need | :16:19. | :16:25.
to cut that again. It's growing like a car pet... Money for the | :16:25. | :16:29.
project was awarded by a company that distributes money from the | :16:29. | :16:35.
landfill tax. Sam from Dorset Wildlife Trust says | :16:35. | :16:42.
these garden escapees have become far too successful. We have the | :16:42. | :16:48.
limestone grass with the plant here slowly establishing. As it becomes | :16:48. | :16:51.
more carpet-like, in the end, we end up with a growth pattern that's | :16:51. | :16:56.
much more like a doormat where it's completely blocked out everything | :16:56. | :17:00.
underneath it. The disused quarries on Portland are truly a very | :17:00. | :17:04.
special place. The ultimate aim is to attract many more green tourists | :17:04. | :17:08.
here, creating long-term and sustainable local employment. But | :17:08. | :17:17.
for now, there's an awful lot of plants to cut and prune. | :17:17. | :17:21.
Those of you who enjoy a drink may have had a tipple over the holidays | :17:21. | :17:24.
and decided to give up booze for January. Of course, you could go | :17:24. | :17:29.
another way. How about owning a brewery? The Cooperative has been | :17:29. | :17:35.
set up to run a micro-brewery in stening and it's looking for | :17:35. | :17:39.
members. The men sipping at the round table hope to create some | :17:39. | :17:43.
legendary ale. If you have a taste for beer and suspect you have a | :17:43. | :17:47.
brewer's touch, they want to hear from you. They formed a Cooperative | :17:47. | :17:50.
to run a brewery and they are looking for members. Somebody who's | :17:50. | :17:55.
got a bit of time, prepared to invest a few hundred pounds and is | :17:55. | :17:58.
enthusiastic about local beers. They can spend the odd afternoon | :17:58. | :18:03.
here and there when they've got the time and contribute to making | :18:03. | :18:07.
something that's good to drink. This is where the magic happens, | :18:07. | :18:17.
the Adur wp valley Cooperative has taken over a micro-brewery -- Adur | :18:17. | :18:22.
Valley Cooperative. The Co-op is ready to go into full production | :18:22. | :18:26.
soon and there's an open day this weekend at the brewery to show | :18:26. | :18:33.
potential members what's involved. All but one is a man with a beard. | :18:33. | :18:39.
Women need not apply or should apply? If they like their drink, | :18:39. | :18:44.
they are more than welcome to apply. They don't need a beard? No. | :18:44. | :18:48.
Cooperative says despite challenging financial conditions, | :18:48. | :18:53.
the cask ale market is growing and the brewery aims to expand its | :18:53. | :18:58.
customer base beyond Sussex. What one word would you associate | :18:58. | :19:03.
with the beer you are creating? Flavour. Relaxation Happiness. | :19:03. | :19:09.
Pleasure. Company. Joy. ALL: Cheers... | :19:09. | :19:13.
Tough times to open a Cooperative but to keep it going, but good luck | :19:13. | :19:17.
to them. Tony is here with the sport. Been Ainsley in a moment? | :19:17. | :19:20.
Yes, a big announcement about his racing team which I'll tell you | :19:20. | :19:25.
about in a moment. It's the 2 chance we have had to speak to him | :19:25. | :19:28.
since the remarkable incident at the World Championships in Perth. | :19:28. | :19:33.
He got on the press boat didn't he? He was so angered by the actions of | :19:33. | :19:37.
the press boat in getting too close to him that there he was getting in | :19:37. | :19:41.
the water, had a go at the boat then jumped back, got disqualified | :19:42. | :19:45.
and wasn't a great moment for him. Many said it was out of character? | :19:45. | :19:50.
It was, but gave you an insight into what a fearsome competitor and | :19:50. | :19:54.
how serious he takes it. Interesting. Yes, it was | :19:54. | :19:59.
interesting to see the reaction, he's got to find out if he'll face | :19:59. | :20:03.
any sanction, but he had another big announcement today. Aiming to | :20:03. | :20:07.
become Britain's most successful Olympian on sailing isn't enough | :20:07. | :20:13.
for him, he's planning to put Britain back on the map in the | :20:13. | :20:16.
America's Cup. He announced a new team which will take to the water | :20:16. | :20:21.
this year. He spoke at length about that incident with the press boat | :20:21. | :20:24.
at the World Championships in December too. | :20:24. | :20:29.
Ben Ainslie has helped Britain rule the wave force a decade. His | :20:29. | :20:33.
Olympic exploits have ensured legendary status. In an Olympic | :20:33. | :20:38.
year, he's looking beyond the Games and fixing his sights on the | :20:38. | :20:42.
greatest sailing event of them all. The Americas Cup has a great | :20:42. | :20:47.
heritage in sailing and history and the moves they've made from mono | :20:47. | :20:51.
holes to multi-holes, much more exciting boats, the course and the | :20:51. | :20:58.
race is shorter and it makes the boats more physical to sail. | :20:59. | :21:03.
Ainslie racing will enter the Americas Cup World Series, an | :21:03. | :21:07.
exhibition series designed to attract interest in the main | :21:07. | :21:11.
Americas cup. He will also link up with the | :21:12. | :21:15.
Oracle team for their defence of the cup next year. Long-term, | :21:15. | :21:18.
Ainsley could spearhead a British attempt to win the cup back. | :21:18. | :21:27.
To compete in the America's Cup World Series, that is relatively | :21:27. | :21:31.
expensive -- inexpensive. We hope to test water and hope to build the | :21:31. | :21:37.
team up to be a viable, successful challenger. Upper most are the | :21:37. | :21:40.
Olympics in Portland and Weymouth and his outburst in Perth last | :21:40. | :21:45.
month suggested the pressure is on. It was very, very unfortunate and | :21:45. | :21:52.
obviously I regret what happened but absolutely in 25 years of | :21:52. | :21:56.
racing at the highest level I've never seen anything like it and | :21:56. | :21:59.
very disappointing for everyone concerned. A tribunal sits next | :21:59. | :22:03.
month to decide what, if any sanction Ainsley could face, but it | :22:03. | :22:13.
will be an unwelcome distraction in a big year. Certainly a big year | :22:13. | :22:17.
for Ben Ainslie in. An hour exSussex will play their first | :22:17. | :22:21.
match of the Caribbean 2020 tournament in Antigua. Tonight, | :22:21. | :22:25.
they play the Netherlands. Last year, Hampshire reached the | :22:25. | :22:29.
final and Sussex are looking forward to the challenge. | :22:29. | :22:35.
Bit of an unknown really. We've not played for three months outdoors. | :22:35. | :22:39.
People have been training hard in the winter. It will be a good test | :22:39. | :22:43.
to see where we are. A few good results and hopefully we can get | :22:43. | :22:47.
through to finals day. We have a lot of young players, a | :22:47. | :22:54.
lot of people to show what they can do. 2020 is a big part of the | :22:54. | :22:58.
English diet now and to give some game time to players who wouldn't | :22:58. | :23:03.
naturally get it, that will be really positive for the future of | :23:03. | :23:06.
the club. We'll show you some moments from their opening match | :23:06. | :23:12.
tomorrow. If you want to listen to the game though, there's commentary | :23:12. | :23:18.
on the official website. January is the transfer window in which many | :23:18. | :23:24.
of our football clubs are busy recruiting players and Bournemouth | :23:24. | :23:32.
are hot on the trail of Tubbs. Tubbs had two bids dismissed. | :23:32. | :23:38.
Crawley are top of League Two. Poole Pirates have signed the | :23:38. | :23:42.
biggest sponsorship deal in history. They go into this season as | :23:42. | :23:46.
defending league champions after reclaiming the crown last year. The | :23:46. | :23:49.
three-year deal with local firm Coastal Aluminium will enable the | :23:49. | :23:55.
club to move forward with continuity, according to promoter | :23:55. | :23:59.
Matt Ford. Tomorrow night, Brian Thompson will be talking to us, | :23:59. | :24:02.
back from his round the world voyage. | :24:02. | :24:04.
Extraordinary feat that is, fabulous. | :24:04. | :24:08.
On to the weather now. Last night, you were saying that you walked a | :24:08. | :24:13.
possible five feet from your house to your car? Yes. And thought, my | :24:13. | :24:20.
goodness, it's mild. I don't think I put a coat on. It's a degree | :24:20. | :24:24.
milder than yesterday. I'll pay more attention to you tonight. | :24:24. | :24:30.
want a scarf by the weekend. your thermals yes, if you are out | :24:30. | :24:34.
doing football. He won't make the doing football. He won't make the | :24:34. | :24:38.
walk! It's getting cold! Certainly is, yes. Lovely pictures | :24:38. | :24:42.
though. Carole Fornachon captured the moon before the sun rose in | :24:42. | :24:45.
Dorset and Chris Waite took this picture of a lovely calm sea for | :24:45. | :24:50.
the moment, but limited brightness in Lepe in Hampshire. | :24:50. | :24:54.
Last one from Grahame Howard who captured two blue tits in Weymouth. | :24:54. | :24:58.
Very mild temperatures at the moment. It turns colder Friday | :24:58. | :25:01.
onwards. This is what is happening with the temperatures. Above | :25:01. | :25:10.
seasonal afternoon at the moment, but dipping below on Friday. -- | :25:10. | :25:17.
above seasonal average at the moment. Below freezing by Friday | :25:17. | :25:21.
and Saturday. Enjoy the mild temperatures today and tomorrow. | :25:21. | :25:25.
Mild and cloudy tonight. A lot of cloud cover with some breaks. We | :25:25. | :25:30.
could have the odd isolated frost pocket where the skies stay clear | :25:30. | :25:39.
for the longest period. A mild start tomorrow. A better day than | :25:39. | :25:42.
today. More sunshine. The cloud should break up by the afternoon. | :25:42. | :25:46.
One or two mist and fog patches first thing, but temperatures very | :25:46. | :25:53.
like today will rise above 10 so 10-12 still above the seasonal | :25:53. | :25:57.
average, 5-6 above the norm and more cloud tomorrow night. A repeat | :25:57. | :26:02.
performance of tonight. We hold on to the cloud cover, one or two | :26:02. | :26:06.
clear spells. A spot of drizzle for western areas and temperatures down | :26:06. | :26:11.
to around 7-9. It is all change on Thursday. The day will start on a | :26:11. | :26:15.
mild note and high pressure still remains in charge. Once this cold | :26:15. | :26:19.
front sinks south and eastwards, the air behind it will be a lot | :26:19. | :26:22.
clearer. There will be cooler air coming in from the north, so a | :26:22. | :26:26.
cooler feel to things, Thursday night onwards. Frosty on Friday. | :26:26. | :26:32.
Maybe some mist and fog patches first thing, but it's an improving | :26:32. | :26:35.
picture. Lovely sunny conditions and lovely on Saturday, although | :26:35. | :26:38.
there may be more cloud on Saturday than Friday and this is what is out | :26:38. | :26:42.
in the wings. There is a little uncertainty to this weather front | :26:42. | :26:46.
which will head towards us on Sunday. Maybe some wintry showers | :26:46. | :26:50.
on the cards. One or two sunny spells will develop tomorrow after | :26:50. | :26:53.
a cloudy start. The rain heads south on Thursday, behind it the | :26:53. | :26:58.
cooler air and frosty starts on Friday and Saturday. Getting nippy! | :26:58. | :27:02.
Winter's coming! Well, for the weekend anyway. Tomorrow, very | :27:02. | :27:10.
excited because Warhorse is out at the moment. Sunday night Leicester | :27:10. | :27:16.
Square, they got the horse on the red camp et. We'll do our take on | :27:16. | :27:19.
it tomorrow, not a three-hour version but two interesting stories, | :27:19. | :27:24.
one tomorrow night, both horses are called Warrior, had a huge role in | :27:24. | :27:28. |
