Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. | :00:02. | :00:05.
In tonight's programme: Help us solve the mystery - a | :00:05. | :00:07.
family's plea over their missing daughter three decades after her | :00:07. | :00:17.
:00:17. | :00:19. | ||
disappearance. Any mother out there who has lost a child even for a | :00:19. | :00:22.
minute will know what that panic is like. | :00:22. | :00:25.
A former Cunard employee is charged with sexual assault of a child | :00:25. | :00:28.
whilst working for the company. An inquest hears of a teenager's | :00:28. | :00:31.
final moments after a light aircraft crashed killing him and | :00:31. | :00:41.
:00:41. | :00:42. | ||
his instructor. And the stable hand who got to say | :00:42. | :00:49.
thank you to the emergency service which came to her rescue. | :00:49. | :00:52.
The Hampshire family of a toddler who went missing more than 30 years | :00:52. | :00:54.
ago is calling for an independent investigation into how military | :00:54. | :01:01.
police handled her disappearance. Katrice Lee hasn't been seen since | :01:01. | :01:03.
she vanished from a supermarket near a military base in Paderborn | :01:03. | :01:09.
in Germany. Our Home Affairs Correspondent Alex Forsyth has been | :01:09. | :01:15.
to Gosport to speak to her mother, Sharon Lee. Any mother out there | :01:15. | :01:21.
who has lost a child even for two or three minutes, will know what | :01:21. | :01:28.
that panic is like. It is an awful feeling. He goes away when you see | :01:28. | :01:34.
your child. For the past 30 years it has never left me. Katrice Lee | :01:34. | :01:40.
went missing on her second birthday. She was with her family buying | :01:40. | :01:46.
things at a supermarket in Germany near the military base where her | :01:46. | :01:51.
father was stationed. She left her for just a moment and Katrice Lee | :01:51. | :01:59.
had gone. It is Yves she vanished into thin air. Military police | :01:59. | :02:02.
thought she had walked to a nearby river and drowned but her body was | :02:02. | :02:07.
never found and her family don't believe that is what happened. | :02:07. | :02:11.
believe she has been abducted and I have always believed that. There is | :02:11. | :02:21.
:02:21. | :02:22. | ||
no way my daughter got out of that not be that morning unassisted. | :02:22. | :02:27.
sister believes she is still alive. Mum and I go down to the beach on | :02:27. | :02:30.
her birthday and that a blue enough in the hope that somebody might see | :02:30. | :02:38.
it and think, I think I might be her or something like that. | :02:38. | :02:41.
daughter's disappearance in Germany has never been classified as a | :02:41. | :02:48.
crime, it is still called accident. A two year-old trialled has gone | :02:48. | :02:56.
missing. It is not a crime. We have not had the support from the | :02:56. | :03:00.
military. It has been hard to keep her highlighted in the press. She | :03:00. | :03:05.
has become the forgotten girl. family is fighting for an | :03:05. | :03:09.
independent review of the case among the military police to hand | :03:09. | :03:14.
over the original files. So far the MoD has refused but say the | :03:14. | :03:24.
:03:24. | :03:32. | ||
investigation is being re-examined. I am never giving up hope of | :03:32. | :03:37.
finding my daughter. It is my belief 31 years ago if the police | :03:37. | :03:42.
had acted promptly and more efficiently, and may not have to be | :03:42. | :03:47.
sitting here talking to you today. I could have both my daughters with | :03:47. | :03:55.
A man has been found guilty of harassing his ex-girlfriend and | :03:55. | :03:58.
setting fire to her mother's home. Al Amin Dhalla was convicted at | :03:58. | :04:01.
Lewes Crown Court of harassing Alison Hewitt and her mother Pamela | :04:01. | :04:06.
Hewitt. He was also found guilty of arson after setting fire to Pamela | :04:06. | :04:09.
Hewitt's home in Buckinghamshire and starting a fire at a police | :04:09. | :04:19.
station. He was found not guilty of two charges. Our reporter Mark | :04:19. | :04:22.
Sanders has been in court, and joins me now. Mark, what happened | :04:22. | :04:30.
The jury have been considering 10 counts against Al Amin Dhalla and | :04:30. | :04:34.
they came back with verdict on seven of those charges. They found | :04:34. | :04:40.
him guilty of harassing his former girlfriend, Alison Hewitt. They | :04:40. | :04:43.
started a relationship in Brighton when it ended and started a | :04:43. | :04:47.
campaign against her. He was convicted of harassing her mother, | :04:47. | :04:52.
Pamela Hewitt, although he was acquitted by the jury on to serious | :04:52. | :04:58.
counts, putting a person in fear of violence by harassment. The jury | :04:58. | :05:03.
did convict him on arson, setting fire to Pamela Hewitt's cottage in | :05:03. | :05:06.
Buckinghamshire, and guilty of the attempted arson of a police station | :05:06. | :05:15.
near by. What will happen tomorrow? The jury still has a lot of work to | :05:15. | :05:19.
do. They have to consider three more charges against Al Amin Dhalla, | :05:19. | :05:24.
possession of an offensive weapon, theft and perverting the court -- | :05:24. | :05:28.
course of justice. He has protested his innocence but tonight he has | :05:28. | :05:36.
been found guilty of seven significant charges. | :05:36. | :05:39.
An inquest has been hearing about a teenager's final moments in a plane | :05:39. | :05:47.
which crashed killing him and his instructor. He was on a training | :05:47. | :05:57.
:05:57. | :05:59. | ||
flight with an instructor. He was described in court as not | :05:59. | :06:06.
survivable. The accident left wreckage scattered. The aircraft | :06:06. | :06:12.
had collided with a glider at 4,000 feet. The glider pilot was able to | :06:12. | :06:16.
parachuted to safety. Sadly they went. In court we heard how the | :06:16. | :06:21.
light aircraft was fitted with a special mechanism for Geoff just | :06:21. | :06:29.
isn't -- -- jettisoning the canape. -- canopy. An air accident | :06:29. | :06:32.
investigator could tell from the wreckage somebody had pulled the | :06:32. | :06:36.
lever to try to release the canopy of the plane but explained there | :06:36. | :06:41.
was an extra handle you would have had to release for the cabbie to be | :06:41. | :06:47.
jettisoned complete the and that hadn't happened. -- for the canopy. | :06:47. | :06:52.
The highly experienced pilot may have been incapacitated in the | :06:52. | :06:56.
collision with a glider and it was probably 15-year-old Nicholas who | :06:56. | :07:02.
had tried to open the canopy. There was also evidence his seat harness | :07:02. | :07:06.
had been released before the impact. The teenager's mother was in court | :07:06. | :07:10.
to hear what had happened to the plane in which her son died. | :07:10. | :07:16.
Tomorrow we are expecting an RAF doctor to give evidence about the | :07:16. | :07:19.
medical history and that might shed light on what happened. The inquest | :07:19. | :07:23.
is not expected to end until next week so it is not until then we | :07:23. | :07:32.
will know what caused these two deaths. | :07:32. | :07:35.
A former Cunard employee has been charged with the sexual assault of | :07:35. | :07:38.
a child and with possessing indecent images of children. Paul | :07:38. | :07:40.
Trotter worked for Southampton based Cunard as a supervisor in a | :07:40. | :07:43.
childrens' activity area. Cunard say they are deeply shocked by the | :07:43. | :07:45.
allegations and an independent review is underway into their | :07:45. | :07:51.
policies and procedures. Briony Leyland reports. They operate three | :07:51. | :07:57.
ships from the port of Southampton. They will not confirm which ship | :07:57. | :08:02.
off ships are connected with this investigation. Paul Trotter, 34, | :08:02. | :08:06.
from Yorkshire, is charged with possessing indecent images of | :08:06. | :08:12.
children and the sexual assault of a child under 13 between December | :08:12. | :08:16.
20th, 2010, and January 5th, 2011. Wiltshire Police say this was what | :08:16. | :08:21.
he was working for Cunard as a supervisor for the children | :08:21. | :08:26.
activity area. He knows -- he no longer works for their company and | :08:26. | :08:31.
will appear before magistrates on Thursday. Cunard say they are | :08:31. | :08:34.
deeply shocked by the allegations and the safety and well-being of | :08:34. | :08:37.
customers is of paramount importance. They told us following | :08:37. | :08:42.
these allegations being made we ask the NSPCC to conduct an independent | :08:42. | :08:52.

emergencies a day. On Saturday they received 4,000 calls from customers | :09:18. | :09:28.
It falls within something we prepare for as a business to make | :09:28. | :09:33.

35 years. Thomas Haigh killed David Griffiths from Bracknell after he | :10:32. | :10:35.
was told to bring back cocaine from Brazil for a second time. He also | :10:36. | :10:38.
shot dead Brett Flournoy. 35-year- old Griffiths was found buried on a | :10:39. | :10:42.
farm in Cornwall. Today his family said they would never get over what | :10:42. | :10:48.
had happened. As a family we never imagined we would be standing here | :10:48. | :10:52.
today and David would be gone. It is a living hell. We have had to | :10:52. | :10:56.
accept their horrific way David was taken from us but also had to | :10:56. | :11:00.
endure six weeks of worrying and looking for him, to then find out | :11:00. | :11:07.
he was murdered and buried was to lead to much to comprehend. He was | :11:07. | :11:10.
a battle for survival that captured the imagination of millions around | :11:10. | :11:14.
the world. Water shipped down told the story of a rabbit warren | :11:14. | :11:19.
threatened by the arrival of all donors -- bulldozers. A meeting is | :11:19. | :11:23.

40 years after the story was published the author has been | :11:44. | :11:48.
horrified to see his writing ever taken by real life. The idea of | :11:48. | :11:54.
building houses there, just plonking them down in the open | :11:54. | :12:00.
country, this beautiful area, it ought not to be invaded by a rash | :12:00. | :12:04.
of residential developments. Poti marched in advance of the meeting | :12:04. | :12:14.

more than nature. They are building these homes in addition to 2000 | :12:20. | :12:27.
homes elsewhere, which would just put an incredible strain on the | :12:27. | :12:32.
infrastructure of our locality. Building homes on brownfield sites | :12:32. | :12:35.
like the flats incorporated here simply will not meet the demand for | :12:35. | :12:41.
places to live according to those backing the use of San Golford. | :12:41. | :12:44.
Instead of piecemeal development of a house here and there, in an unco- | :12:44. | :12:50.
ordinated way, the whole site could be planned in a co-ordinating | :12:50. | :12:54.
manner. The houses are only going to be planned in the north and west | :12:54. | :12:58.
of the site. The rest will be ancient wood land which will be | :12:58. | :13:03.
preserved and Park, which will also be protected in the south. The | :13:03. | :13:12.

arresting him on suspicion of salt -- assault and criminal damage. | :13:29. | :13:37.
Sussex Police were called after 3 o'clock this morning. 82 jobs at a | :13:37. | :13:41.
bakery in Hampshire that makes Hovis bread are under threat. | :13:41. | :13:48.

She suffered life threatening injuries when she was trampled by | :14:02. | :14:04.
horses in a freak accident. Lottie Taylor needed an emergency | :14:05. | :14:07.
operation before being flown to hospital by the Surrey air | :14:07. | :14:10.
ambulance. Now, just one month on, despite suffering a punctured lung | :14:10. | :14:13.
and broken ribs, Lottie is back working with the animals she loves. | :14:13. | :14:16.
Today she was able to thank the air ambulance medics in person. David | :14:16. | :14:19.
Allard reports. This might be the last thing you would expect Lottie | :14:19. | :14:22.
Taylor to be doing. Five weeks ago her life was tiny in the balance | :14:22. | :14:26.
after she was crushed and trampled by horses at another yard where she | :14:26. | :14:33.
works. I had two horses on either side. Something spooked them from | :14:33. | :14:38.
behind so they pulled defaults and I try to let go because I was stuck | :14:38. | :14:42.
in the middle of them there was nowhere for me to go and this a | :14:42. | :14:46.
pretty and I hit the floor which was rather hard, so got up and | :14:46. | :14:50.
walked to the House and I guess that was just a adrenalin, pretty | :14:50. | :14:54.
amazing when you needed. injuries were so severe the Serie | :14:54. | :15:00.
air ambulance was called. Her chest injury was very serious. The air | :15:00. | :15:03.
ambulance team gave her an anaesthetic and performed surgery | :15:03. | :15:08.
to enable her to breathe. She was airlifted to London and spent three | :15:08. | :15:13.
days on a ventilator but was home after a week. I don't remember | :15:13. | :15:16.
anything about the helicopter ride which is probably a good thing. | :15:16. | :15:20.
Today is a chance for her to visit the air ambulance and thank the | :15:20. | :15:25.
team for saving her life. Geoff would have been sitting here, | :15:25. | :15:28.
keeping an eye on the monitor. An Irish -- orange machine at the back | :15:28. | :15:35.
doing your breathing for use. In this case it was essential the air | :15:35. | :15:40.
ambulance went to enable her to be here and talking with us today. | :15:40. | :15:46.
cannot thank them enough. It has been made quite clear to me if they | :15:46. | :15:50.
went where they were things could have been very different. Back at | :15:50. | :15:55.
the stables her accident hasn't dented her confidence. Anybody who | :15:55. | :15:58.
likes horses knows these things can happen and you can either be scared | :15:58. | :16:02.
or get on with it. That is what I do and love to do and I will not | :16:02. | :16:11.
stop. She hopes to be back at work next month. Looking much better, a | :16:11. | :16:14.
big thank you to the air ambulance service. Provocative and | :16:14. | :16:18.
challenging. That is how an award- winning artist in Crawley has been | :16:18. | :16:26.
described by some. She's called Sarah Maple, and she's making quite | :16:27. | :16:29.
an impact in the art world. Sarah received death threats when she | :16:30. | :16:32.
portrayed herself wearing a burkha holding a piglet in 2008. The | :16:32. | :16:35.
photographer and painter's new exhibition is called "It's A Girl". | :16:35. | :16:38.
It's described as an unflinching investigation into what it is to be | :16:38. | :16:41.
a woman in 21st century Britain. This latest work is also likely to | :16:41. | :16:49.
raise eyebrows. Sara Smith's been Sarah Maple is an artist who isn't | :16:49. | :16:55.
afraid of putting herself centre- stage. In oils and photographs this | :16:55. | :17:00.
exhibition set out to challenge the way society looked at women. It is | :17:00. | :17:03.
the whole thing, you should be ashamed of your body, your hair, if | :17:03. | :17:09.
you spend money you commit yourself perfect. Brought up a Muslim in | :17:09. | :17:13.
Eastbourne and Crawley she explored her upbringing in her first solo | :17:13. | :17:19.
exhibition four years ago, the year after having won the Saatchi based | :17:19. | :17:24.
new sensations price. These images provoked death threats. You can | :17:24. | :17:33.
tell am not really worried about the response. The images may be of | :17:33. | :17:36.
beastly -- less obviously provocative than previous work but | :17:36. | :17:41.
the message is no less powerful. Dressed as a series of Disney | :17:41. | :17:49.
Princess's she takes on some very unmet Disney like rolls. Cinderella | :17:49. | :17:56.
is winning a seat in Parliament. Snow White is a scientist. It is | :17:56. | :18:00.
getting younger else to think, I can do anything I want, and not | :18:00. | :18:06.
just their to be beautiful and saved by a man. I hope it will make | :18:06. | :18:10.
people question assumptions, things went takes for granted and you | :18:10. | :18:15.
don't even see it any more. Sarah Maple isn't afraid of the F-word | :18:15. | :18:23.
and is making her case that feminism is about -- as valid now | :18:23. | :18:29.
than ever before. Can you remember Duran Duran in their heyday and | :18:29. | :18:34.
Margaret Thatcher as prime minister? If so you are now history, | :18:34. | :18:37.
according to researchers at the University of Sussex. They put in a | :18:37. | :18:42.
line thousands of balls -- observations by the 1980s from | :18:42. | :18:46.
ordinary people. We have been talking with one of those behind | :18:47. | :18:52.
the Mass observation project. In this locked storeroom lie thousands | :18:52. | :18:56.
of questionnaires completed over the past 75 years. Now the | :18:56. | :19:00.
responses from the 1980s are being put on line including one man's | :19:00. | :19:04.
record of his junk mail which included milk delivery promotions | :19:04. | :19:08.
and a notice of a ban the Bomb meeting. The respondent had | :19:08. | :19:12.
interesting takes on major events such as this man's thoughts on the | :19:12. | :19:16.
Falklands War. In his local pub on Friday night the talk was all about | :19:17. | :19:26.
:19:27. | :19:27. | ||
the Falklands and the effect it would have on the World Cup. | :19:27. | :19:32.
key political figure of the decade proved divisive. Many respondents | :19:32. | :19:37.
admiring her determination, but not all. A male respondents describe | :19:37. | :19:41.
the 80s as like being nagged by someone else's wife and Thatcher is | :19:41. | :19:46.
the nagging wife in some ways. teaching resource will go online | :19:46. | :19:51.
later today and it is hoped it will inspire people. We can all document | :19:51. | :19:55.

they went down a division. The City will be really upset if they lost | :21:29. | :21:34.

the season, they might fancy they can come here and do a little bit | :22:46. | :22:50.
more than just not lose. If they could it might prove a pivotal | :22:50. | :22:56.
point in the race for the Premier League. Nigel Adkins has named an | :22:56. | :23:04.

the rescheduled meeting. It was postponed last week due to the bad | :24:13. | :24:22.
weather. Top trainers including Paul Nicholls will be participating | :24:22. | :24:25.
in the race which is free for all racegoers. It will look very | :24:25. | :24:29.
different on Friday to those pictures we have just seen there. | :24:29. | :24:34.
Heavy going, so wet and muddy. Like a double whammy, Valentines. You | :24:34. | :24:41.
still have to go out and get a card. Cakes for the newsroom. We were | :24:41. | :24:47.
expecting some Brownies. I have let you all down. We had to go and buy | :24:47. | :24:52.
them ourselves. Make me feel really guilty. I feel really terrible now. | :24:52. | :25:02.

It serves you right. Let's have a It is looking fairly quiet, not | :25:17. | :25:22.
only tonight but through the rest of the week. Not much to say. Paddy, | :25:22. | :25:30.
mild and still high have that breeze. -- cloudy. The clouds | :25:30. | :25:40.
:25:40. | :25:40. | ||
thickening up, the odd spot of light rain or drizzle. A very mild | :25:40. | :25:47.
beginning for Wednesday. The cloud will be a strong feature. We are in | :25:47. | :25:51.
a favoured spot with our central location to see some sunshine | :25:51. | :25:59.
through the afternoon, particularly in the breeze. Rather mild. A bit | :25:59. | :26:04.
above average for the time of year. Into the evening, a familiar theme. | :26:04. | :26:12.
The breeze will begin to die down as we head into Thursday. A mild | :26:13. | :26:17.
beginning as we head into Thursday. A bit of a change, but through the | :26:17. | :26:23.
bulk of the daytime we will stay on the dry side. You can see the gap | :26:23. | :26:27.
between the isobars has increased. The cold front will take all day to | :26:27. | :26:34.
arrive here. Things will begin to change at the end of the week, a | :26:34. | :26:41.
lot more cloud. A bit of rain Thursday night, into Friday. Friday, | :26:41. | :26:47.
a dull and damp affair. We are still in that mild area of air by | :26:48. | :26:52.
the end of the week. Saturday, we see the transition, it will be some | :26:52. | :26:56.
-- become colder and there is some brain. The gradual change as we | :26:56. | :27:03.
head into the weekend. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, staying a | :27:03. | :27:07.
mile. The breeze beginning to die down put up by Saturday, at first | :27:07. | :27:13.
the rain and then becoming colder still. That is the weather. Were | :27:13. | :27:18.
they get very cold next week? It will not get very cold. We will | :27:18. | :27:28.
have an unsettled south-westerly set-up. No snow. That is it from us. | :27:28. | :27:31. |
