Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's

:00:02.:00:06.

programme: Guilty of harassment. The stalker

:00:06.:00:14.

who terrorised his ex-girlfriend and her family.

:00:14.:00:18.

Stalking destroys lives and we need to take it seriously.

:00:18.:00:21.

Safety fears. Ferries forced to move out of Weymouth after cracks

:00:21.:00:25.

are found in the harbour wall. The nine-year-old boy who died from

:00:25.:00:28.

a reaction to nuts. His mother campaigns for more awareness about

:00:28.:00:35.

allergies. I do not want any parent to go

:00:35.:00:40.

through that because it is horrible. It never leaves you. Ice will

:00:40.:00:44.

struggle every day. And secrets from the seabed that

:00:44.:00:54.
:00:54.:00:59.

reveal even more about stone-age He has been described as a

:00:59.:01:04.

"narcissistic psychopath". Al Amin Dallah from Brighton has been found

:01:04.:01:08.

guilty of arson and harassing his ex-girlfriend. The jury at Lewes

:01:08.:01:10.

Crown Court heard how the 42-year- old targeted his former

:01:10.:01:15.

girlfriend's parents, setting fire to their home. Eventually armed

:01:15.:01:18.

police arrested him as he tried to reach his former partner in

:01:18.:01:22.

hospital by impersonating a doctor. Mark Sanders has been following the

:01:22.:01:31.

case and is live outside court tonight. Mark?

:01:31.:01:39.

What started as a romance ended what lies been put in danger. Al

:01:39.:01:42.

Amin Dallah stopped his ex- girlfriend and set fire to work her

:01:42.:01:48.

mother's home. This is a chilling case of a man out of control.

:01:48.:01:52.

This is Al Amin Dallah stalking his ex-girlfriend in the hospital where

:01:52.:01:58.

she worked. He is masquerading as a doctor. He is later arrested on a

:01:58.:02:04.

ward by armed police. They found weapons in his car.

:02:04.:02:08.

Alison Hewitt, a trainee doctor, had been living with him in

:02:08.:02:13.

Brighton. When she broke off the relationship in 20th November 10 he

:02:13.:02:18.

started a campaign of harassment against her and her family.

:02:18.:02:22.

A private investigator has her under 24 hour surveillance and

:02:22.:02:26.

decent anonymous and malicious letters to her employers and her

:02:26.:02:30.

mother's neighbours. I want to thank the police to have

:02:30.:02:37.

kept my family and myself alive. Stalking destroys lives and we need

:02:37.:02:42.

to take it seriously. If it is not me, it will be somebody else

:02:42.:02:52.

tomorrow. Maybe even yourself. The man, seen here in his native

:02:52.:02:59.

Canada, was arrested last year but while he was on bail he became more

:02:59.:03:08.

sinister. He bought weapons like this crossbow and a pistol. He had

:03:08.:03:13.

a banner specially adapted the Soviet, the police believe, he

:03:13.:03:16.

could hold someone prisoner after capturing them.

:03:17.:03:21.

We think he would have gone on to kidnap and possibly murder Alison

:03:21.:03:27.

and perhaps her parents as well. , while Frene Al Amin Dallah tried

:03:27.:03:32.

to burn down the family home in this Buckinghamshire village. He

:03:32.:03:37.

also started a fire at a police station. Police feared he would

:03:37.:03:44.

hunt down Alison's parents while they were on holiday here. They

:03:44.:03:50.

were airlifted to the mainland and put in a safe house. He made his

:03:50.:03:56.

way to the hospital in Haywards Heath where Alison was to find her.

:03:56.:04:01.

It was a mercy, the trial heard, but he was arrested by armed police

:04:01.:04:04.

before he could commit more serious crimes.

:04:04.:04:14.

It has been a horror film. A horror movie. Very difficult. I had to

:04:14.:04:18.

leave court this morning because it is still something I find too

:04:18.:04:24.

painful. I ask that those currently involved

:04:24.:04:30.

in debating stalking and harassment laws look at this case. It is yet

:04:30.:04:36.

another example of how important it is that harassment laws are updated.

:04:36.:04:41.

Now convicted, Al Amin Dallah, described as a narcissistic

:04:41.:04:49.

psychopath can no longer terrorise the woman he claimed to have loved.

:04:49.:04:55.

He will be sentenced care in April. He faces a significant jail term.

:04:55.:05:00.

The family thanked the police and the prosecutor. As far Alison

:05:00.:05:04.

herself come after the case ended she said she was just relieved it

:05:04.:05:07.

was all over. Let us talk to Tracey Morgan who

:05:07.:05:10.

has been a victim of stalking and is now a campaigner for greater

:05:10.:05:16.

protection. You heard Alison Hewitt say that

:05:16.:05:21.

stalking should be taken more seriously. In Europe pinion, how

:05:21.:05:28.

serious is it been taken? Sadly, it is down to look as to

:05:28.:05:33.

what response victims get from the different agencies involved.

:05:33.:05:36.

What is our attitude to people being stopped?

:05:36.:05:41.

There are two issues here. One is about tightening up the law and the

:05:41.:05:47.

other is about changing attitudes. It is still very much, you know,

:05:47.:05:54.

pale light hearted issue with some people. Even last week I saw a

:05:54.:06:00.

comment in a paper about our com -- are complain first law reform

:06:00.:06:04.

saying that we are criminalising a normal part of breaking up. To me,

:06:04.:06:09.

that says it all. We have to look at it as murder prevention, as

:06:09.:06:14.

shown by this horrific case. A recent report concluded there was

:06:14.:06:18.

an urgent need for an offence of stalking which many people might

:06:18.:06:25.

think that there was already an offence. There is not, is there?

:06:25.:06:30.

An act was brought in in 1997 to deal with stalking and harassment

:06:30.:06:34.

cases but it is such a broader law but the turn stalking is not in

:06:34.:06:44.
:06:44.:06:45.

there. It has captured much more minor crime, trivialised a lot a

:06:45.:06:50.

minor cases of harassment. Serious cases like my own and this case

:06:50.:06:57.

would have been considered under a comparison of boundary disputes.

:06:57.:07:01.

Thank you very much for talking to us this evening.

:07:01.:07:04.

Hampshire police authority has agreed to buy a building in

:07:04.:07:06.

Winchester for a new police headquarters. The authority spent

:07:06.:07:09.

9 million on a new headquarters site in Chandler's Ford four years

:07:09.:07:13.

ago but it has never been used. Now just part of that site will be

:07:13.:07:15.

developed and the rest sold, along with the existing headquarters site

:07:15.:07:19.

in West Hill Winchester. The money will help pay for the new building.

:07:19.:07:22.

Condor Ferries is moving all its sailings from Weymouth to Poole

:07:22.:07:25.

because of safety concerns about the port. The company, which sails

:07:25.:07:28.

to the Channel Islands, says there are problems with the structural

:07:28.:07:33.

integrity of the ferry pier. So to tell us more here is our transport

:07:33.:07:36.

correspondent Paul Clifton. What does this mean for the business and

:07:36.:07:45.

the passengers? It will be very disruptive. Condor

:07:45.:07:50.

Ferries is contacting everybody but on sailings from Weymouth to the

:07:50.:07:57.

Channel Islands and telling them to head to Poole instead. Far Condor

:07:57.:08:04.

Ferries, this is a huge headache. It stores and refuelling depots are

:08:04.:08:10.

in Weymouth. Most of its employees live in that area. Suddenly the pot

:08:10.:08:16.

is effectively closed. Tell us more about the problem.

:08:16.:08:22.

It is serious. It is about the structural integrity of the ferry

:08:22.:08:27.

berth. The engineers are not sure report is safe. Divers inspected

:08:27.:08:31.

the harbour wall and found cracks beneath the waterline where the

:08:31.:08:36.

vessel walls up. The surface has also dropped and cracks have

:08:36.:08:40.

appeared there as well. There will be one more sailing on Friday and

:08:40.:08:45.

then it will be closed. It could be close for weeks and months and with

:08:45.:08:50.

their Olympic sailing events happening close by, this is urgent

:08:50.:08:55.

business. On the other hand, offer Poole along the close -- for Poole

:08:55.:09:00.

along the coast, this is business for a quiet support.

:09:00.:09:03.

A Hampshire dairy farmer's decision to wear a red hat and bulky

:09:03.:09:06.

clothing as he approached his bull may have led to his death, an

:09:06.:09:08.

inquest her today. 58-year-old Ian Rook from Cranfield near

:09:08.:09:11.

Petersfield died after being charged at by the animal in

:09:11.:09:14.

November 2010. A jury decided Mr Rook died as the result of an

:09:14.:09:21.

accident. Rachel Canter has the details.

:09:21.:09:26.

Ian Rook was born on his farm and had become a respected dairy farmer.

:09:26.:09:32.

He spoke to this farmer -- used by to this programme on several

:09:32.:09:38.

occasions. Very nice. Very genuine. A country

:09:38.:09:45.

person. A spade was a spate. A good farmer. He did well at ploughing

:09:45.:09:50.

matches. He approach to the bowl because it

:09:50.:09:55.

was snorting loudly. He tried to calm it but he was tossed in the at

:09:55.:10:00.

and the bold charged at home. Onlookers do sticks to try to make

:10:00.:10:05.

it stopped. He died in hospital from severe chest injuries

:10:05.:10:10.

afterwards. A court decided to bet his death was an accident.

:10:10.:10:14.

The court heard how he was an experienced farmer who had kept

:10:14.:10:19.

balls for many years. His wife said he was sometimes scratch it behind

:10:19.:10:24.

the ears to calm it down. On this day he was wearing a lot of heavy

:10:24.:10:28.

clothing and a red fleece hat because of the cold. She said she

:10:29.:10:33.

felt the ball simply did not recognise him.

:10:33.:10:37.

Ian Rook was very well known throughout the Hampshire farming

:10:37.:10:44.

community and will be sorely missed. A health and safety investigation

:10:44.:10:47.

found that he had taken sensible safety measures to minimise the

:10:47.:10:50.

risks. Anti-cuts protesters gathered

:10:50.:11:00.
:11:00.:11:03.

outside Southampton City Council this afternoon as the local

:11:03.:11:05.

authority met to set its budget. During the meeting councillors

:11:05.:11:08.

agreed that council tax would be frozen. The authority says it has a

:11:08.:11:10.

40 million shortfall but campaigners argue the council

:11:10.:11:18.

should use its own savings to avoid making cuts.

:11:19.:11:22.

Across the South lots of local people are being asked to take on

:11:22.:11:27.

roles that were previously taken on by the councils. How realistic is

:11:27.:11:36.

it to Ascot on pay people to fill the gap? We have been to visit a

:11:36.:11:41.

community centre in Crawley. Mention the big society here and

:11:41.:11:46.

you will get short shrift. This toddler group has set up by local

:11:46.:11:50.

people. In the past there were as help for older children in the area.

:11:51.:11:58.

A local youth club helps this goal changed her life. I used to get

:11:58.:12:03.

into fights all the time and was kicked out of school. I got angry

:12:03.:12:08.

and they helped me with that. With youth a up funds in

:12:08.:12:12.

disappearing because of council cuts, the people behind the toddler

:12:12.:12:17.

group have had to set -- have had to step a in.

:12:17.:12:21.

They show at the local MP around today but they are concerned that

:12:21.:12:26.

in the past local officials have just had a wall words and no

:12:26.:12:31.

actions. It is only now we have the cameras here that local politicians

:12:31.:12:36.

are taking us seriously. Communities know best what they

:12:36.:12:41.

need. Not everyone is convinced people

:12:41.:12:44.

can be left entirely to their own devices.

:12:44.:12:52.

The state cannot do everything. It does not always do everything well.

:12:52.:12:56.

It is important that people get in for 10 per just on their own

:12:56.:13:01.

initiative. When you take 4 million out of a

:13:01.:13:06.

service, it is not realistic to expect citizens to make a bad shot

:13:06.:13:11.

four. In communities like broad field of

:13:11.:13:14.

looks like local people will have no option other than to do just

:13:14.:13:21.

that. Still to come in this evening's

:13:21.:13:24.

:13:44.:13:47.

His mother Emma is raising money for medical research and is calling

for schools to be more alert to the early signs of an allergic reaction.

:13:52.:14:02.
:14:02.:14:02.

Steve Gaisford reports. Nine-year- old Haydn Wileman had developed a

:14:02.:14:07.

peanut allergy. The only problem was neither he nor his family were

:14:07.:14:12.

aware of it. He was having his breakfast and

:14:12.:14:17.

read to -- and ran to the toilets. I did not think anything of it and

:14:17.:14:21.

went to school. I asked him how he felt when we got

:14:21.:14:27.

there and he said he was still not feeling well. Things got worse as

:14:27.:14:34.

he struggled to breathe. I called 999 anti- had had a cardiac arrest.

:14:34.:14:40.

It was the at quits. He was transferred to hospital and

:15:13.:15:16.

We do not have a lot of understanding as to why some

:15:37.:15:42.

It is his legacy really. It is all I can do for him now.

:15:42.:15:47.

A bench dedicated to him is at his school in New Haven, I remind add a

It MA -- it is amazing that it could disappear.

:20:26.:20:31.

Football matches last night, some of them were quite lively.

:20:31.:20:37.

The Saints' game at West Ham was lively. I was there. Most fans

:20:37.:20:42.

would have taken a draw but having played with 10 men, they would

:20:42.:20:47.

probably see it as a missed opportunity. It was a tempestuous

:20:47.:20:55.

game. This corner was a strong penalty claim. Did he handled the

given. Mark Noble went down rather easily. Billy Sharp told him what

:21:07.:21:13.

he thought about it. Matt Taylor was shown a red card. This was 20

:21:13.:21:20.

minutes into the game. The penalty was scored by Mark Noble. Playing a

:21:20.:21:28.

long time with 10 men was going to count against West Ham. Saints got

:21:58.:22:05.

have bet 8 win in the last 10 games. Encouraging a way trips for Saints

:22:05.:22:10.

and the royals. After scoring a last-minute winner

:22:10.:22:16.

on Leeds on Saturday, Brighton left it late against Millwall. Albion

:22:16.:22:23.

fell behind before Sam Vokes scored his first. Liam Feeney restored the

:22:23.:22:33.

lead. It finished honours even. Portsmouth fans showed their

:22:33.:22:41.

defiance but that wasn't matched by the player's performance. A section

:22:41.:22:46.

of Pompey fans stayed behind. The club are expected to enter

:22:46.:22:52.

administration on Friday. Almost's recent win was ended by

Leighton audience -- Leyton Orient. They fell behind after this shot.

:22:58.:23:03.

Bournemouth came back on level terms before half-time. Jimmy Smith

:23:03.:23:10.

won it with quarter-of-an-hour to play. Crawley boss, Steve Evans,

:23:10.:23:20.
:23:20.:23:21.

had no complaints after his team were beaten by a Swindon. The

:23:21.:23:27.

Robins a 6th win was cemented by Paul Benton. Aldershot climbed up

:23:27.:23:34.

to it 17th after beating Hereford. Michael Townshend was dismissed for

:23:34.:23:40.

bringing down Danny Hylton. Let us check the tables.

:23:40.:23:47.

Southampton are second behind West Ham. Reading are up to a 6th while

:23:47.:23:57.
:23:57.:23:57.

Brighton hover outside those places. In League One, Bournemouth missed

:23:57.:24:05.

the chance to close the gap on the top six. In League Two, Crawley

have slipped down to 6th. Look how tight it is with two points

:24:10.:24:19.

covering the top six. Portsmouth go to the High Court on

:24:19.:24:22.

Friday when application to commence administration proceedings will be

:24:22.:24:27.

heard. We will be keeping you up to date. You can fault the situation

:24:37.:24:39.

on the BBC football website. Friday is a big day for the Pompey in the

:24:39.:24:44.

High Court. Now on to the weather. It was bring

:24:44.:24:48.

like today. Do you remember we were talking

:24:48.:24:57.

about snow last Wednesday. No such talk today. Look at these snowdrops.

:24:57.:25:02.

talk today. Look at these snowdrops. This was taken by a tame. Looking

:25:02.:25:08.

very nice. That is the picture there by Robin Boultwood. Staying

:25:08.:25:18.

with the seaside, this was taken by a Lee Scott at Southsea.

:25:18.:25:23.

We have mild weather with us through much of the week but come

:25:23.:25:30.

the weekend, look at the temperatures. They are down to six

:25:30.:25:35.

Celsius by Sunday. Tonight, it is dry but cloudy for some parts with

:25:35.:25:45.
:25:45.:25:46.

the breeze easing. It gives us the risk of a some frost. The western

:25:46.:25:51.

fringes may see a touch of frost, particularly for Dorset. Out in the

:25:52.:25:57.

countryside, temperatures are around two Celsius. Elsewhere,

:25:57.:26:03.

three Celsius by dawn. With the priest dying down, it is a bright

:26:03.:26:10.

start for many of us. It is dry and mild for all of us. A high of 11

:26:10.:26:16.

Celsius. The breeze, although fresh, is lighter than today. Into the

:26:16.:26:22.

evening, we have this weather front there would bring patchy rain by

:26:22.:26:28.

dawn. Nothing to Major. Cloud thickening up again as we head into

:26:28.:26:36.

Friday. Friday is looking not to damp. Highs of nine Celsius. The

:26:36.:26:43.

breeze will be very light. Come Saturday, double trouble. That cold

:26:43.:26:49.

front behind pushing down and isobars tightly packed together.

:26:49.:26:58.

Saturday is starting off fine. Once that band of rain arrives by the

:26:58.:27:03.

latter part of Saturday, cold air is behind it with the risk of ice

:27:03.:27:11.

on Saturday night. Saturday is going to be very cold to the end of

:27:11.:27:21.
:27:21.:27:21.

the day with heavy rain at times. Nice and dry on Sunday?

:27:21.:27:29.

It is. Northern Scotland, I see they had snow showers. Tomorrow

:27:29.:27:33.
