A boost for the Cornish economy as the Government gives part of the

:00:10.:00:19.
:00:20.:00:22.

county special status. Deep disappointment. Frustration.

:00:22.:00:24.

Mystification, I do not understand exactly how this decision was

:00:24.:00:28.

arrived. But other areas in the South West miss out. Good evening

:00:28.:00:33.

and welcome to Spotlight. There's a hope that hundreds of new jobs will

:00:33.:00:35.

be created in Newquay. More in a moment. Also tonight. Vaccinating

:00:35.:00:39.

badgers. The South West keeps a close eye on a new trial that hopes

:00:39.:00:42.

to tackle bovine TB. And alongside the rescuers as they enter their

:00:42.:00:51.

busiest time of the year. Tax breaks and a relaxation of planning

:00:51.:00:54.

laws are being offered to tempt new businesses to Cornwall and create

:00:54.:00:57.

hundreds of jobs. Newquay has been chosen as one of the Government's

:00:57.:01:01.

enterprise zones. The plan is to transform the area around Newquay

:01:01.:01:03.

Airport into a base for firms specialising in the aviation

:01:03.:01:07.

industry. But the good news for Cornwall was bad news for Devon as

:01:07.:01:11.

a bid from Plymouth was rejected by the government. One business leader

:01:11.:01:15.

in the city has told Spotlight he is mystified as to how the decision

:01:15.:01:24.

was arrived at. Eleanor Parkinson reports. When Cornwall took over

:01:24.:01:28.

Newquay airfield, they spent millions upgrading the site and now

:01:28.:01:34.

they want to create an industrial hub to bring in new business. This

:01:34.:01:39.

is the sort of industry they want to attract, Argos to have moved

:01:39.:01:42.

their operational training to Newquay, this helicopter has been

:01:42.:01:46.

sold to Algeria and the pilots have been trained in Cornwall. Now the

:01:46.:01:50.

Government has agreed to help by giving the site enterprise status,

:01:50.:01:54.

new companies will get tax breaks and will not have to overcome his

:01:54.:02:01.

many planning hurdles. It was a good bid that recognise that they

:02:01.:02:04.

could build upon the existing facilities but create new jobs.

:02:04.:02:13.

There is already the airport so this is taking that foreword.

:02:13.:02:16.

Business leaders say this could create more than 1000 new jobs.

:02:16.:02:21.

it comes to reality, we're talking about generating more than 1000

:02:21.:02:26.

direct jobs, quite a lot of further jobs in the sport industry and this

:02:26.:02:36.
:02:36.:02:38.

is an area where we do sadly still are one of the poorest. Many

:02:38.:02:43.

businesses will be able to make the move quickly. You're talking to

:02:43.:02:48.

companies about coming down here? We have got 19 active Leeds within

:02:48.:02:52.

the aerospace sector from various disciplines like engineering,

:02:52.:02:59.

maintenance repair and operational training. It'll be interesting to

:02:59.:03:03.

what Newquay has to offer. there are also losers, Plymouth did

:03:03.:03:09.

not succeed in its biz -- bid for Enterprise status, wanting to

:03:09.:03:14.

develop five sites concentrating on marine related manufacturing.

:03:14.:03:19.

disappointment, frustration, mystification, I do not understand

:03:19.:03:23.

how this decision was derived. Whilst business figures and

:03:23.:03:27.

Cornwall celebrate, even they admit that the hard work now begins,

:03:27.:03:31.

persuading companies that this is the best option for many companies'

:03:31.:03:40.

futures. I spoke to economics expert Peter papayas and asked him

:03:40.:03:45.

how much of a boost this could be. We have passed examples, this

:03:45.:03:49.

policy was tried in the 1980s with some success, they tended to be

:03:50.:03:53.

short-term, most of the jobs tended to come from the surrounding area

:03:53.:03:59.

so there was a lot of displacement. They're quite expensive, costing

:03:59.:04:03.

23,000 for each job so it was expensive and it tended to bring

:04:03.:04:10.

short-term benefit. There is talk and its -- specialising in

:04:10.:04:15.

aerospace. Were thus generate jobs for locals or will this just bring

:04:15.:04:19.

specialists from other parts of the country? Both are possible, it

:04:19.:04:24.

depends on how successful this is. We don't have a major airport in

:04:24.:04:28.

Newquay and I am not aware of large numbers of aerospace jobs about to

:04:28.:04:34.

be swallowed up in the locality so it will be difficult to get in a

:04:34.:04:37.

space engineers there. They will have to come from outside. But no

:04:37.:04:41.

doubt there would be knock-on effects a local economy. They would

:04:41.:04:45.

spend money in the local economy so that is why there would be a boost?

:04:45.:04:52.

Quite. But there are dangers. If you just want to go for a

:04:52.:04:56.

particular industry, you might be turning away good jobs that might

:04:56.:05:00.

otherwise lead to long-term benefits. Plymouth lost in the bid.

:05:01.:05:05.

What impact will that have on the city's economy? Plymouth has

:05:05.:05:08.

partially lost out for a number of reasons, is going through hard

:05:08.:05:14.

times. It did not help that there was convergence funding just over

:05:14.:05:20.

the border. It needs all the help it can get, it is a big

:05:20.:05:26.

disappointment to Plymouth. It thought it was going to get this.

:05:26.:05:33.

Thank you very much indeed. The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has

:05:33.:05:35.

lost its appeal against the compensation it was ordered to pay

:05:35.:05:38.

following the unfair dismissal of its former chief executive, John

:05:38.:05:48.
:05:48.:05:48.

Watkinson. Mr Watkinson was sacked in 2009. He said it was because he

:05:48.:05:51.

was a whistleblower over cancer treatment. The Trust said it was

:05:51.:05:53.

because of concerns over his management. Mr Watkinson will

:05:53.:05:56.

receive 885,000 in compensation from the Trust. Unemployment has

:05:56.:05:58.

risen across the region according to figures published this morning.

:05:58.:06:01.

Compared with the national average, Torbay has the highest rate at 4.1%

:06:01.:06:04.

of the population out of work and claiming benefit. In Plymouth, the

:06:04.:06:10.

figure is 3.8%. In Devon the rate is 2%. The rate also went up in

:06:10.:06:17.

Cornwall to 2.5%. The figure in Somerset is 2.1%. Dorset has the

:06:17.:06:20.

lowest rate of 1.5% and was the only part of the region to register

:06:20.:06:24.

a fall. Devon chef Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall and his 10 year-old

:06:24.:06:27.

son, Oscar, have been rescued after their boat got washed onto rocks

:06:27.:06:31.

near Sidmouth. The TV chef has thanked the Sidmouth Lifeboat for

:06:31.:06:37.

coming to their rescue near Beer Head on Monday afternoon. A

:06:37.:06:40.

lifeboat crew member swam through rough seas to attach a towline to

:06:40.:06:42.

the fishing boat. Mr Fearnley- Whittingstall and his son are said

:06:42.:06:49.

to be shaken but not hurt. It's been three days since the Channel

:06:49.:06:52.

Island of Jersey was stunned by a horrific knife attack. Six people

:06:52.:06:55.

were stabbed to death in St Helier on Sunday afternoon, including

:06:55.:06:59.

three children. A 30 year-old Polish man has been arrested and

:06:59.:07:01.

staff from Devon and Cornwall Police have been assisting the

:07:01.:07:05.

investigation. But as Mike Wilkins reports, some in the island are

:07:05.:07:15.
:07:15.:07:16.

still struggling to come to terms with the killings. The gentle sound

:07:16.:07:20.

of children playing. For the staff, the last few days have been filled

:07:20.:07:24.

with nothing but misery and disbelief. Two other children

:07:24.:07:30.

killed on Sunday attended after- school clubs run by the centre.

:07:30.:07:34.

Trust, six year-old Kinga and five year-old Julia were much loved and

:07:34.:07:40.

will be sorely missed. Jehan knew them both and says they were lovely.

:07:40.:07:44.

Both of them were beautiful children. They were from beautiful

:07:44.:07:49.

families, it is complete disbelief. More details are emerging about the

:07:49.:07:54.

events running up to the brutal stabbing. Their two-year-old Damien

:07:54.:07:56.

Rzeszowska worked in construction and had taken his family back to

:07:56.:08:00.

Poland recently and was staying at his apartment before going back to

:08:00.:08:06.

Jersey. People said they were surprised to hear about the attack.

:08:06.:08:10.

I saw them just a few days ago. They seemed a normal, happy family

:08:10.:08:17.

and this was never expected. staff and everyone are totally

:08:17.:08:27.
:08:27.:08:28.

shocked. So... It is terrible. the days pass and police continue

:08:28.:08:31.

investigating, there are still plenty in the community who are

:08:31.:08:35.

stunned by what has happened and many are waiting for the day when

:08:35.:08:43.

this man has recovered to help provide answers. Coming up. We'll

:08:43.:08:46.

have all the goalmouth action from last night's league football. Plus

:08:46.:08:49.

the 17 year-old from Devon who's becoming a major force to be

:08:49.:08:55.

reckoned with in golf. And a battle in the skies. We'll have some of

:08:55.:09:04.

the highlights from round one of the British Firework championships.

:09:04.:09:07.

The first badger TB vaccination programme in the country has begun.

:09:07.:09:10.

The South West has been badly affected by bovine TB, which has

:09:10.:09:15.

led to the culling of thousands of cattle. On land it manages in

:09:15.:09:17.

Gloucestershire, the local wildlife trust has started trapping,

:09:17.:09:22.

injecting and releasing animals back into the wild. The scheme is

:09:22.:09:24.

being followed closely here because at Killerton in Devon the National

:09:25.:09:29.

Trust also has plans to vaccinate badgers. These efforts to put

:09:29.:09:32.

vaccination into practice come as the government intends to trial two

:09:32.:09:35.

badger culls in the New Year with one possibly somewhere in Devon.

:09:35.:09:45.
:09:45.:09:47.

Adrian Campbell reports. The rolling hills of the Cotswolds with

:09:47.:09:52.

lush pasture land share an all-too- familiar problem with our region.

:09:52.:09:56.

Gloucestershire has been badly affected by bovine TB, like much of

:09:56.:10:00.

the south-west. But here the local wildlife trust has been attempting

:10:00.:10:04.

to establish whether or not a vaccine for badgers could make any

:10:04.:10:09.

difference. This summer, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust has

:10:09.:10:12.

been setting traps for badgers on its land. So they can be held

:10:12.:10:17.

briefly and injected with the vaccine for bovine TB. It is a

:10:17.:10:20.

vaccine that does not work in badgers already carrying the

:10:20.:10:26.

disease. But the trust intends to persevere with the project, costing

:10:26.:10:31.

30,000 over five years. Once we have got the badger in, we need to

:10:31.:10:37.

do an assessment to make sure it is OK, when we're happy and it is

:10:37.:10:40.

suitable, we then put together the vaccine, which we keep in a

:10:40.:10:47.

portable fridge. And we vaccinate the badger. 38 badgers have already

:10:47.:10:51.

been tracked down and vaccinated for bovine TB. It was on land

:10:51.:10:58.

managed by the Wildlife Trust. do believe that culling will work,

:10:58.:11:01.

there is a vaccine and rather than talking about the subject, we

:11:01.:11:05.

decided to vaccinate badgers on our nature reserve because you want to

:11:05.:11:08.

contribute to the discussion rather than just simply joining the

:11:08.:11:13.

argument. Many conservationists favour vaccination over Colin the

:11:13.:11:17.

badger. In time, they hope there will be an oral vaccine for badgers.

:11:18.:11:22.

But the government has said it is minded to have to trial Kohl's next

:11:22.:11:26.

year after further consultations. Farmers say that vaccination cannot

:11:26.:11:31.

work. The disease is so acute, it has gotten so out of control, that

:11:31.:11:36.

vaccination isn't any cure. It might be a palliative preventative

:11:36.:11:40.

it wrong then perfected, but the practicalities of administering

:11:40.:11:44.

this are extremely difficult and the cost is prohibitive. It's

:11:44.:11:48.

certainly will not cure badgers and the disease has such a stranglehold,

:11:48.:11:52.

you have to clear it first. Gloucestershire might be the first

:11:52.:11:57.

to vaccinate badgers but Devon will not be far behind. The National

:11:57.:12:07.
:12:07.:12:07.

Trust proposed vaccination in east Devon. It's the busiest time of

:12:07.:12:10.

year for the rescue services in the South West. Tens of thousands of

:12:10.:12:13.

holidaymakers who're often unused to sea conditions flock to the

:12:13.:12:15.

region. Over the next three days, our reporter, Louise Hubball, will

:12:15.:12:18.

be following the RNLI lifeguards, lifeboats and search and rescue

:12:18.:12:26.

helicopters. Tonight, she's live for us on Newquay's Fistral beach.

:12:26.:12:30.

As you can see, a lot of people are still enjoying the beach. It has

:12:30.:12:34.

been ideal conditions to learn to surf Today but unfortunately it has

:12:34.:12:38.

also been ideal for weaver fish, so we have seen quite a few people

:12:38.:12:44.

being stung. In Cornwall last year, lifeguards attended over 7000

:12:44.:12:49.

incidents and saved 39 lives. As part of a new series, I have been

:12:49.:12:56.

looking at the work they do. Cornwall, 300 miles of coastline, a

:12:56.:13:00.

population that doubles in the summer months and a real challenge

:13:00.:13:05.

to keep everyone safe. Over the next three days, we will follow the

:13:05.:13:11.

rescue services at their busiest time. Here on the beach, out here

:13:11.:13:18.

on the water... And up in the air. This is Perranporth Beach, one of

:13:18.:13:22.

the most popular surfing beaches in the country. Lifeguards regularly

:13:22.:13:27.

trained here, aiming to reach any casualty 300 metres from the show

:13:27.:13:32.

work within 3.5 minutes. This footage shows that conditions can

:13:32.:13:36.

change rapidly, leaving people suddenly out of their depth and in

:13:36.:13:41.

danger. It isn't like this will entail, it has current Sandrocks,

:13:41.:13:49.

all sorts. Everybody is potentially out of their comfort zone. Even the

:13:49.:13:53.

most experienced can end up in trouble. Mike broke his pelvis when

:13:53.:13:58.

he crashed into a shipping boy was out kite surfing, and an agony he

:13:58.:14:03.

was too weak to swim to shore. was almost certain I would not have

:14:03.:14:08.

made it, other surfers could not fly their kites. I would have

:14:08.:14:15.

drowned or died. Without them, I would not be here. It's that simple.

:14:15.:14:20.

Go down the pitch... They're keeping holidaymakers safe but it

:14:20.:14:24.

does not come cheap. This year they have employed 900 lifeguards across

:14:24.:14:31.

the country. Each one costs over 500 to treen and nearly 500 to

:14:31.:14:37.

equip. Lifeguard cover on beaches runs from Easter until October and

:14:37.:14:41.

some want that extended. What you would like to see is people coming

:14:41.:14:47.

down to serve every day of the year, and outside of those hours as well

:14:47.:14:51.

so it provides additional services to cover those needs. The message

:14:51.:14:57.

from the RNLI is simple - wherever you are, swim at a Life Guard beach

:14:57.:15:03.

and never alone. The Life Guards are now off duty but look at the

:15:03.:15:06.

sheer number of people in the water. The RNLI would argue they should

:15:06.:15:11.

not really be there without any Life Guard patrolling the area.

:15:11.:15:15.

Lifeguards say this is potentially a very dangerous beach and

:15:15.:15:18.

conditions change quickly, especially for holidaymakers on

:15:18.:15:23.

used to the conditions. The key. He would check on the weather

:15:23.:15:27.

conditions later in the programme. The administrator of Plymouth

:15:27.:15:30.

Argyle Football Club says he has been assured that the cash to

:15:30.:15:35.

complete the sale of the club is in place. Brendan Guilfoyle says he's

:15:35.:15:38.

had legal assurances over the funding of the takeover by Bishop

:15:38.:15:41.

International Limited. He now wants Peter Ridsdale, who'll run the club,

:15:41.:15:44.

to get approval from the Football League by the end of the week so

:15:44.:15:47.

the deal can be completed. On the field, Argyle and Exeter City are

:15:48.:15:50.

still waiting for their first League win of the season. Both

:15:50.:15:53.

teams lost last night, their second home defeats in four days. Yeovil

:15:53.:15:56.

also went down at home while Torquay United won at Aldershot.

:15:56.:16:05.

Hamish Marshall rounds up the action. Exeter City fans spent

:16:05.:16:07.

yesterday are snapping up tickets for the visit of Liverpool next

:16:08.:16:11.

week but last night they were frustrated at a poor first-half

:16:11.:16:17.

display. They conceded two goals to Brentford, leaving a mountain to

:16:17.:16:21.

climb. They won a penalty in the second half. And the converted but

:16:21.:16:28.

could not find the leveller so it's now just one point in nine. You

:16:28.:16:32.

will have one winner on the board but could not add to that, Sam

:16:32.:16:37.

Baldock give MK Dons an early lead at Huish Park. The Gunners had a

:16:37.:16:40.

number of have chances, despite playing the last 10 minutes against

:16:40.:16:48.

10 men. The more than matched them in every department, apart from the

:16:48.:16:53.

good finish and it was an excellent finish. In League Two, Torquay

:16:53.:16:57.

United bus described the win at Aldershot as ugly in a game

:16:57.:17:01.

littered by mistakes. Lee Mansell scored his third of the season from

:17:01.:17:05.

range to secure the points. They had to defend for long periods but

:17:05.:17:09.

held out, keeping the first clean sheet of the season and their 4th

:17:09.:17:14.

in the early season table. Plymouth Argyle fans still remain to be

:17:14.:17:17.

convinced over the assurances given over the sale of the club. They're

:17:17.:17:21.

worried more about what is happening on the field. A decent

:17:21.:17:25.

first half was followed by two quick goals by Wimbledon to make it

:17:25.:17:31.

three home losses in a week. A 17 year-old from Devon has won a

:17:31.:17:34.

prestigious golf competition, one which has launched the careers of

:17:34.:17:37.

many of today's big names. Harrison Greenberry from Exeter picked up

:17:37.:17:40.

the trophy for the 2011 Boys Amateur Championship in Somerset at

:17:40.:17:45.

the weekend. Since winning, he's also been selected to represent

:17:45.:17:47.

Great Britain and Ireland in a major European competition later

:17:47.:17:57.
:17:57.:18:00.

this month. Spotlight's Andrea Ormsby has been to meet him. A

:18:00.:18:04.

future in golf. 17 year-old Harrison Greenberry and his coach

:18:04.:18:11.

her back on the course today after a huge victory at the weekend.

:18:11.:18:15.

Competing against 252 players from all over the world, this was a

:18:15.:18:25.
:18:25.:18:27.

moment when Harrison became the 2011 boys amateur champion. It is

:18:27.:18:32.

quite hard to put into words. It is starting to sink in. It still has

:18:32.:18:40.

not fully. It is unbelievably amazing, the best I could get.

:18:40.:18:46.

the moon, absolutely. He has worked so hard, he put us through a lot of

:18:46.:18:50.

torture through the final. Going into the 37th hole but it all came

:18:50.:18:56.

right. Absolutely wonderful. It is a competition which has launched

:18:56.:19:01.

many big names. This is a huge platform, it is a springboard for

:19:01.:19:07.

him and when you consider Sergio Garcia, they have won this in the

:19:07.:19:10.

past, and we know what they have gone on to do. There will be a

:19:10.:19:15.

number of doors and opportunities opening up for Harrison over the

:19:15.:19:20.

next 18 months. And one has already opened. Harrison has found out he

:19:20.:19:24.

has been chosen to represent Great Britain and Ireland at a major

:19:24.:19:31.

European competition later this month. Organisers of the Olympics

:19:31.:19:34.

in Dorset say they still need about 400 volunteers to come forward to

:19:35.:19:39.

help visitors to the sailing events next year. Altogether, 800 people

:19:39.:19:42.

will be on hand to give out information and assist the expected

:19:42.:19:48.

crowds. This afternoon, some of the so-called ambassadors were being

:19:48.:19:51.

put through their paces at the Weymouth Carnival. Our Dorset

:19:51.:19:57.

reporter, Simon Clemison, was there. We have seen a full-scale test

:19:57.:20:01.

event on the water but what about off the water. The population of

:20:01.:20:05.

when it is expected to double during the week of the Olympics and

:20:05.:20:09.

that is potentially a lot of people needing a lot of answers to a lot

:20:09.:20:13.

of questions. Tonight, it is a carnival, the town has been filling

:20:13.:20:17.

up this afternoon, creating another opportunity for Olympic dress

:20:17.:20:22.

rehearsals. Sue and David, you are two of the 800 volunteers helping

:20:22.:20:29.

people along the way. Has it been useful? Yes, loads of people have

:20:29.:20:34.

been asking questions, especially about the programme. It's a lot of

:20:34.:20:37.

visitors, we have been telling them about the Times events. We have

:20:37.:20:43.

been working on the telly Burstall and it has drawn huge crowds.

:20:43.:20:49.

People have been seeing logjams. lot of traffic control. We're not

:20:49.:20:52.

getting any younger and this event will never happen again in my

:20:52.:20:58.

lifetime. I want to be involved. How excited are you? I have been

:20:58.:21:04.

accepted for years, since 2008, since it was announced. It just

:21:04.:21:10.

grows. Your leading this team of volunteers. Is there anything that

:21:10.:21:18.

will change as a result of today? Indeed, the briefing sessions will

:21:18.:21:25.

have more time, three or four days in advance. Confident? Absolutely,

:21:25.:21:28.

it has been really useful and a big thank you to everybody. Get

:21:28.:21:32.

involved. Sarah Kennedy ending that report by Simon Clemison. In just

:21:32.:21:34.

over two-and-a-half hours, the final three teams will compete in

:21:35.:21:38.

the British Firework Championships. Last night, thousands of people

:21:38.:21:42.

flocked to Plymouth Hoe to see the first phase of the competition. Amy

:21:42.:21:44.

Cole joined the judges and spectators to watch the display.

:21:44.:21:54.
:21:54.:21:56.

Her report contains flashing images. A party atmosphere with the promise

:21:56.:22:00.

of the best pyrotechnic show in town. Even the big wheel that

:22:00.:22:10.
:22:10.:22:23.

A Bristol-based company were the first to light up. 22,000 worth of

:22:23.:22:27.

fireworks cascading out of the skies. The company told me that

:22:27.:22:31.

some of the materials they are using tonight have not been used

:22:31.:22:35.

before so even they were excited to see the displays. The judges or

:22:35.:22:39.

watching intently but will it be enough to impress? It had enough

:22:39.:22:44.

passion... As the night went on, competitors played their trump

:22:44.:22:49.

cards. Eager to create excitement among the judges. They were keen to

:22:49.:22:55.

keep their cards close to the chest. We have a lot of shows to see. When

:22:55.:22:59.

judging, you just see one and you go, that was fantastic, and

:22:59.:23:02.

tomorrow night there might be well in the middle and you go, that's

:23:03.:23:12.
:23:13.:23:28.

fantastic. So you have to stay cool Explosions, bursts of colour and

:23:29.:23:35.

plenty of excitement. The spectators were having a ball.

:23:35.:23:40.

is the second year that we have seen this. We are enjoying it a lot.

:23:40.:23:44.

It is really huge. It's my first time in Plymouth, and visiting and

:23:44.:23:47.

I thought it was amazing. My favourite was the first lot. They

:23:48.:23:54.

were the best I have ever seen, really spectacular. Praise, indeed.

:23:54.:23:58.

Just three teams remain and soon it will be their turn to see if they

:23:58.:24:08.
:24:08.:24:13.

can do any better. Stunning, as always. Now the weather. What about

:24:13.:24:23.

Good news for all concerned. And we will see some more wet-weather,

:24:23.:24:29.

quite widely tomorrow. But into the weekend there is some drier

:24:29.:24:33.

conditions and as the day's progress, it will warm up, quite a

:24:33.:24:36.

chilly day possible to borrow because we have a lot of cloud and

:24:36.:24:41.

the risk of patchy rain. As I mentioned, it will be largely dry

:24:41.:24:45.

with some clear skies. This is a complex picture but I will simplify

:24:45.:24:50.

it, one lot of cloud give rain earlier and another one will get

:24:50.:24:56.

wet weather tomorrow and there's fine weather overnight and then

:24:56.:25:00.

this hole in the clouds, that is Friday, a lot of fine weather

:25:00.:25:06.

coming our way. We still have this troublesome weather front. Where

:25:06.:25:12.

will it go? It comes from the south overnight, another pulse of rain

:25:12.:25:16.

moving along means wet weather tomorrow but perhaps in a different

:25:16.:25:21.

place, across Dorset and Somerset. Drier the further west you are and

:25:21.:25:24.

towards the end of the day, most of us will see this clear out of the

:25:24.:25:29.

way. That high pressure is there for Friday's the that's the best of

:25:29.:25:32.

the week with some sunshine in the morning, clouding over in the

:25:32.:25:35.

afternoon and the possibility of some showers and the weekend. This

:25:35.:25:39.

is the rain earlier, it has moved out of the way but it does trail

:25:39.:25:43.

back in towards Lyme Bay and the eastern side of Devon and into the

:25:43.:25:48.

Channel. This was earlier at Paignton, we had fine weather but

:25:48.:25:52.

the cloud has been stubborn to move out of the way. And the patchy

:25:52.:25:55.

cloud is still around but it has not stopped people enjoying the

:25:55.:26:02.

weather. You would think this was taken in the autumn, it has been

:26:02.:26:07.

chilly and the wind is brisk. That is feeding in colder air and that

:26:07.:26:13.

is what you will see over the next day. It will be colder and fresher,

:26:14.:26:19.

this is the charge. There's a lot of clear skies are coming in which

:26:19.:26:23.

means with that, some fairly low temperatures and the cloud then

:26:23.:26:28.

reappears from the south-east. Bringing wet weather back into the

:26:28.:26:33.

South Devon and also southern parts. Overnight, as low as 10 degrees in

:26:33.:26:38.

a few places so quite a chilly start to the day and foremost, it's

:26:38.:26:41.

a cloudy start and the rain is pulling away from a good part of

:26:41.:26:45.

Cornwall and Devon but sticking with Somerset and Dorset so a wet

:26:45.:26:55.
:26:55.:26:56.

day here and quite cold also, just 15 degrees. Further west, more

:26:56.:27:00.

sunshine and we should see sunny spells as well. That's the forecast

:27:00.:27:03.

for the as a silly, cloudy, brighter later and the high water

:27:04.:27:13.

times... And the surfing... It is usable but on the north coast, two

:27:13.:27:23.
:27:23.:27:24.
