Good evening. Council tax payers in parts of

South Devon could have to pay more to keep controversial plans for a

bypass alive. Supporters say the scheme would relieve traffic

congestion and boost business in Torbay. Here's John Ayres. August

This is the traffic leading Torbay. The road between here and Newton

Abbot has been a bottleneck for more than 50 years. The council

needs to put more money into keeper scheme for a bypass alive. For the

first time, they are asking Cambridge council to contribute

�1.5 million. This man represents Newton Abbot. He says he fears the

junction they are being asked to fund will pave the way for massive

development on green field. It is the last green land that exists

around here. I want to preserve that green space before you get in

Newton Abbot or otherwise we're just cling to have our urban sprawl

all the way. Torbay and Devon council said the bypass is vital to

the economy and must be built. are calling on Tain bridge to chip

A Jersey teenager, who survived a polar bear attack, has been talking

about the incident for the first time. Patrick Flinders was on a

school expedition when his group was attacked by the animal. After

hiring publicist Max Clifford, Patrick has been telling the

tabloids how it felt when the bear was biting into his skull.

Sea safety on the South Devon coast has been given a boost after the

official opening of a new Coastwatch station. The purpose

built facility in Torquay is one of 46 around the UK staffed by

volunteers. John Danks has the story. They are known as the eyes

and ears along the coastline. This new station at Torquay

provides an ideal viewpoint across the bay. Around 60 volunteers keep

it manned during daylight hours seven days a week. The remit is to

spot, plot and rapport de anything that we see, where we see people in

difficulties in any way. It be the walkers along the post -- coast

path, Yorks them or someone else on the sea. With new technology and so

many people caddying mobile phones these days, is there any need for

someone to keep a watchful eye on us in case of an information?

has his focus on gold in London. It has always been one of those genes,

to represent your country and the Paralympic Games. He is in the form

of his life. Earlier this summer he broke War wrought record on his way

to two titles in the European Championships. His family believe

he can go all the way to the top. The prospect of the morning cold

the next year is wonderful. Over the next few months, he will be

training hard and Manchester to make his dream come true. --
