Good evening. A 60-year-old man has died after saving his son when

disaster struck a family fishing trip on the north Cornwall coast.

The pair were both swept into the sea near Delabole. The 27-year-old

has been praised for trying to save his father. Rescuers described the

scene as harrowing. Spotlight's Matt Pengelly reports. It was meant

to be a father and son fishing trip on Easter Sunday. But just after

half past eight in the morning it turned to tragedy. It seems the

younger man slipped and fell into the sea. His father scrambled up

the cliff to fetch an emergency lifeboat. But he then fell into the

water himself. As full-scale rescue operation was launched, with the

helicopter, coastguard teams and the inshore lifeboat teams. But the

older man did not survive. I think the son should be proud of his

father, for doing what would come naturally I think to any father.

But on the same side, I think the father would be looking down on his

son proud of the way he looked after his dad in such a difficult

situation. When we turneded -- turned up, the son was supporting

his father and doing everything he could to keep him off the rocks A

harrowing situation, but a very brave young man. The dead man has

not been formally identified. His son has now left hospital.

Elsewhere, two groups of hl day makers were rescued from a kaech in

west Cornwall after they were cut off by the tide. Guernsey Police

have named the man who died in an explosion at a house in Fort George

late on Friday night. Formal identification has yet to take

place, but the police say he was 46-year-old Robert Blakemore. Two

other people - believed to be the man's parents - were evacuated from

the property unharmed. Police say there's no link to terrorism. Two

families have been left homeless after fire ripped through a

thatched property near Exeter. Dozens of fire fighters from across

the South West were called in to tackle the blaze in the village of

Ide last night. From there, Spotlight's Leigh Rundle sends this

report. Still smouldering, a damp and Dev state spectacle. The first

thing I saw was the roof, it was on fire. You could see the beam and

until we came around the back and I saw my bedroom, just completely,

that was when... Just in shock. I still feel, it is just awful.

Volunteers from the village joined firefighters. One of the families

managed to get most of the thing out belonging to the children in

the common areas. On the other side it was getting wet and it was

unsafe. It was almost impossible to get the belongings out in the

lounge and the kitchen. Theed by rooms areed soen. The two families

who rented the building had a lucky escape. It was occupied, everyone

escaped. There were no casualties, so part of the work here in

addition to extinguishing the fire was to salvage item of value.

multi-million pound settlement near Exeter say they will have failed if

it becomes a dormitory town. The first show homes at Cranbrook are

due to open in a few weeks and two new business parks are being

created. There are claims that the new community will be self-

sustaining with around 10,000 jobs being created in its science parks

over the next few years. Helston's celebrating the reinvention of its

former cattle market site with a sleek new building. The state-of-

the art business and community centre cost �1.9 million. The co-

operative which represents farmers markets says the building is

significant, as few markets have purpose-built space. �3 million is

being invested in Land's End for the start of the Olympic torch

relay next month. The start and finish area for the famous Land's

End to John O'Groats journey will be improved and clifftop footpaths

will be restored. After years of touring the UK, the Museum of

British Surfing has finally found a permanent venue in North Devon. The

exhibition centre in Braunton opened to the public this weekend.

The new Art of Surf exhibition includes sketches of early

explorers through to works by contemporary British surfing

artists. The sport had its origins in Hawaii. It was a developed board

sport in what Wye eye when captain Cook arrived and some of his

sailors tryed the surfboards. It came in the early 1900s and became

a popular activity between the two World Wars. Onto the Easter Monday

sport and Exeter City are putting up a valiant fight for their League

One status after beating Leyton Orient 3-0 at St James Park. City,

who haven't won since mid-February, were given early encouragement when

Jake Taylor scored after only four Jake Taylor scored after only four

minutes. A double from Liam Sercombe inside three minutes

reduced the safety gap to eight points, with four games left to

play. Yeovil Town, although looking safe in League One, went down at

Notts County 3-1. Gary Johnson's side went down to a Lloyd Sam hat-

trick as County charged into the play-off positions. Jonathan Franks

brought Yeovil level near the end, before Sam had the last say.

Torquay United stay second in League Two, after a last minute

equaliser at Oxford. Rene Howe put the Gulls ahead with his 14th goal

of the season. But they fell behind until Howe's replacement, Taiwo

Atieno, saved the day in the 90th minute. It finished 2-2. Plymouth

Argyle need one more win to survive in League Two following today's 1-0

win over Aldershot Town at Home Park. It was loan striker Alex

MacDonald who pounced in the first quarter of an hour to make it six

games unbeaten for the Pilgrims in front of more than 8,500. It's time

Hello, after today's wind and rain, it is a little quieter tonight.

Still the risk of a few showers and still breezy. Tomorrow we start off

with sunshine, but the showers are never too far away and they will

continue through the day. Lowest temperature three or four degrees.

There will be some sunshine, but some sharp showers. That is the

prospect for whole day. Eleven, maybe 12 degrees the top

temperature. By the time of Wednesday, the showers more

isolated, but still there. And north-west winds making it feel

cool. Temperatures of ten to 12 degrees. To the end of the week on

Thursday and Friday, we still have low pressure and the risk of

showers and also on we're back into a more normal pattern of April
