That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me, and on

:00:00.:00:12.

Taking a battering: the South West braces itself for heavy rain, high

:00:13.:00:18.

winds, high tides. Severe flood warnings have been issued.

:00:19.:00:22.

Good evening and welcome to Spotlight. As more bad weather hits,

:00:23.:00:28.

we have reports from around the region tonight. Also a head on the

:00:29.:00:33.

programme, the weeks of heavy rain take their toll on the coastal path.

:00:34.:00:38.

A section at Talland Bay has been cordoned off over fears of a

:00:39.:00:42.

possible land slip. And concern from residents that the scenes of the

:00:43.:00:47.

Somerset Levels could soon be repeated in East Devon.

:00:48.:00:52.

The South West is once again taking a battering from the weather.

:00:53.:00:56.

South`east Cornwall has been on the receiving end of the some of the

:00:57.:01:01.

worst of the bad weather since the winter. Seaton has been largely

:01:02.:01:08.

affected, and there have been worries about land slips. Our

:01:09.:01:11.

environment corresponded Adrian Campbell has been in Talland Bay,

:01:12.:01:14.

where part of the footpath has been re`routed because of concerns about

:01:15.:01:18.

safety. The team here are just about to try

:01:19.:01:22.

to make this area fully safe, which means closing office but Pat once

:01:23.:01:30.

and for all stop `` but Pat. Richard Hocking from Cornwall Council showed

:01:31.:01:33.

us how weeks of heavy rainfall have taken their toll on the stretch of

:01:34.:01:37.

the coastal Pat. I last inspected this on Wednesday last week, and it

:01:38.:01:41.

has moved since then. The cracks are starting to dilate, and a lot of the

:01:42.:01:46.

cracks here have vegetation that has been there for a long time, so they

:01:47.:01:50.

aren't old. In the pass week or so, they have started opening up. The

:01:51.:01:57.

coastline has been under attack the years. The council says it does not

:01:58.:02:00.

have enough money to pay for coastal repairs, and now there is only one

:02:01.:02:06.

option. I just think retreat. I just like to stress that the coastal path

:02:07.:02:11.

is still open. There is still a detour, so people can still enjoy

:02:12.:02:15.

the path, but please keep away from the edges, and report any stresses

:02:16.:02:22.

you do see, or potential slips. There are fears that a large section

:02:23.:02:25.

of the cliff could collapse here within days. Elsewhere, sandbags

:02:26.:02:28.

every appeared once again. Basically, here we have sandbags

:02:29.:02:33.

left over from last time that we will move over there later on this

:02:34.:02:37.

afternoon will stop we have a series of sandbags that we will put in

:02:38.:02:43.

place later. The river Seaton has provided a Challenger engineers in

:02:44.:02:47.

recent weeks, as it changes course, moving closer to local properties.

:02:48.:02:51.

This section of the river was badly damaged in the last storm. Workers

:02:52.:02:56.

are trying to shore up the coastline here and protect it from the next

:02:57.:03:00.

surge, coming tonight. Conditions have been difficult through the day

:03:01.:03:04.

on much of the coastline. Tonight at this cafe, they are preparing for

:03:05.:03:06.

the worst, but hoping this time, they will be spared by the elements.

:03:07.:03:15.

The Environment Agency is warning of significant disruption as huge

:03:16.:03:18.

waves, spring tides and strong winds combined over the weekend. There are

:03:19.:03:21.

currently six severe flood warnings in place, low`lying communities in

:03:22.:03:26.

North Devon are at risk such as Ilfracombe and Westward Ho!. The

:03:27.:03:33.

whole of the carnage caused `` coastline is also affected.

:03:34.:03:40.

Preparing for the worst. This restaurant lost its carpet to the

:03:41.:03:45.

last blood only three weeks ago. Today, we are expecting nice high

:03:46.:03:52.

tide, to six metres. It is known to blood at about 5.8 metres here, so

:03:53.:03:55.

we're just going to get ready for it. Rain continued throughout the

:03:56.:04:02.

day. Contractors from Cornwall Council were diligent in keeping

:04:03.:04:06.

drains free from debris. The Met Office issued a yellow alert for

:04:07.:04:10.

rain, but most of that is due to move through the region by the end

:04:11.:04:13.

of today. Tomorrow, there is a yellow alert the wind, which could

:04:14.:04:17.

cause a problem in coastal areas, with gusts of possibly up to 70 mph.

:04:18.:04:22.

As high tide approached in Looe, the tight side was level with the road

:04:23.:04:25.

in some places. But the weather did not stump some from going in the

:04:26.:04:30.

sea. The lifeboat was launched at 5:30pm after reports of someone in

:04:31.:04:37.

the water off Looe. They have had a 999 call from a member of the

:04:38.:04:42.

public, someone who saw a swimmer jump in the water. He had a wet suit

:04:43.:04:46.

on and were swimming towards the island. They lost sight of him, so

:04:47.:04:50.

we are going to check he is OK. Early indications this evening are

:04:51.:04:54.

that no properties have been flooded in Looe. But many people in the town

:04:55.:04:57.

are now concerned about the high tide tomorrow morning. With a severe

:04:58.:05:01.

flood warning in place along the south`west coastline on Saturday,

:05:02.:05:04.

the Environment Agency is warning people not to take any risks.

:05:05.:05:13.

John is live in Looe for as now. John.

:05:14.:05:23.

It is just going up over on the quayside and the other side, and you

:05:24.:05:27.

can see it here. It is very close to the bank. It would appear that,

:05:28.:05:31.

because high tide has just gone, perhaps people here are going to

:05:32.:05:35.

avoid any real problems this evening, but as you have heard, they

:05:36.:05:39.

had been preparing all day. Shops and various houses around the town

:05:40.:05:43.

have sandbags and floodgates to try to protect their properties, but it

:05:44.:05:47.

is something they are very used to here in Looe. We were here just in

:05:48.:05:53.

January reporting and flooding. We are also hearing about how emergency

:05:54.:05:56.

services are always telling us not to take risks. You heard in that

:05:57.:06:00.

report about someone going out to swim. The lifeboat had to be

:06:01.:06:03.

launched there. The good news, it would appear, is that that person

:06:04.:06:06.

would appear to have got back to shore safely. In the end, there was

:06:07.:06:11.

not really a problem. Looking at the flooding, it appears they may have

:06:12.:06:15.

got away with it a night. They are concerned about tomorrow in

:06:16.:06:18.

particular. The Environment Agency say it might cost something like ?10

:06:19.:06:22.

million to do so because that this flooding from thank you.

:06:23.:06:30.

. . There are fears denied as a Somerset's rivers burst their banks

:06:31.:06:33.

after heavy rain and tides. Environment Agency staff have been

:06:34.:06:37.

monitoring the river since first light this morning. The water is

:06:38.:06:41.

falling on the ground I cannot soak up any more.

:06:42.:06:49.

This swollen river, Somerset's mean root out to sea. The Parrett is

:06:50.:06:56.

almost overflowing, and sandbags are the first line of defence. Laid out

:06:57.:07:02.

on an industrial scale, stretching as far as the eye can see. There is

:07:03.:07:07.

a good chance it will go back up, especially if the banks breach. I

:07:08.:07:17.

have a feeling it will. By 6am this morning, hundreds of tonnes of

:07:18.:07:22.

sand, brought in by lorries, all the way from Essex, a donation from a

:07:23.:07:26.

business owner who saw the situation in Somerset on the news and decided

:07:27.:07:32.

he had to help. We have put a team of ten people together to actually

:07:33.:07:36.

put this sand in place. We are ready to roll as soon as COBRA or the

:07:37.:07:39.

Environment Agency give us a position to place the bags. Today,

:07:40.:07:45.

the Environment Agency said despite its biggest ever pumping operation

:07:46.:07:48.

here, the water will take weeks to clear. Many people you talk to hear

:07:49.:07:53.

we'll tell you they are already fed up with waiting. This really shows

:07:54.:08:00.

the whole problem here. You get just a couple of hours of rain, but

:08:01.:08:05.

because it is falling on field that are already completely saturated,

:08:06.:08:08.

instead of soaking in, it just runs straight up and down to the lowest

:08:09.:08:16.

point it can find. Sand, it seems, is the simplest solution, the best

:08:17.:08:19.

barrier to keep back these bulging river banks. But it is the

:08:20.:08:27.

conditions forecast for this weekend that has those living here seriously

:08:28.:08:33.

worried. Sunday is going to be an absolute monumental day for us out

:08:34.:08:36.

here. They will put more houses at threat from flooding, and it will be

:08:37.:08:41.

a real danger time for us. The rain might prove too much for this soaked

:08:42.:08:51.

and sodden scenery. Farmers and landowners in Devon say

:08:52.:08:54.

they fear it is only a matter of time before the scenes on the

:08:55.:08:57.

Somerset levels are seen elsewhere in the region. People living in

:08:58.:09:02.

place St Mary near Exeter say they have spent years providing Ellwood

:09:03.:09:06.

train to convince the Environment Agency to dredge their river.

:09:07.:09:10.

It is only time before this will happen here. That is according to

:09:11.:09:15.

local landowners such as this man, whose family has farmed this land

:09:16.:09:19.

for generations. We have to be Environment Agency for several years

:09:20.:09:23.

they need to do something. If they don't do something very soon, we

:09:24.:09:26.

will end up with Clyst St Mary underwater and all the people who

:09:27.:09:28.

live there with their houses wrecked, this road, 10,000 people

:09:29.:09:32.

per day, blocked, and it will be a disaster. We do not want to say we

:09:33.:09:38.

told you so. Local residents claim the last time this section of the

:09:39.:09:42.

river was dredged was back in the 1960s. They say it is now so blocked

:09:43.:09:47.

up, it is putting properties in the village of Clyst St Mary under

:09:48.:09:51.

threat. Robin is another farmer whose livelihood has been affected

:09:52.:09:55.

by flooding. He was forced to sell his dairy herd because these fields

:09:56.:10:00.

are too wet to raise his cattle. It is certainly getting significantly

:10:01.:10:04.

wet. Normally, you expect a flood out to twice a year in the winter,

:10:05.:10:08.

and that will be up for a day or two and then drain away. At the moment,

:10:09.:10:12.

it seems to be hanging around for a month, or two months, or even more.

:10:13.:10:21.

This land is expected to float around twice a year, but what

:10:22.:10:24.

farmers are saying is that the water in these fields is higher than it is

:10:25.:10:27.

in the river. This means that any water coming downstream as nowhere

:10:28.:10:30.

else to go. The government has stepped in to deal with a situation

:10:31.:10:34.

on the Somerset levels, but organisations such as the National

:10:35.:10:38.

Farmers' Union say this is not the only area of the country needing

:10:39.:10:42.

attention. Without the support of the Environment Agency and the

:10:43.:10:47.

government, and environmental bodies like Natural England, we need to see

:10:48.:10:50.

a more consistent approach that doesn't expose communities to such

:10:51.:10:56.

risk. The Environment Agency says dredging is only part of the

:10:57.:11:00.

solution to reducing flood risk, and is currently in touch with the local

:11:01.:11:03.

community and landowners over the situation. It also says it is

:11:04.:11:07.

investigating sources of funding to carry out the work.

:11:08.:11:14.

Much of the South West Coast has now been put on a severe flood warning

:11:15.:11:17.

ahead of high tides tomorrow morning. It includes Westward Ho!,

:11:18.:11:20.

where sea defences were already damaged in storms earlier this

:11:21.:11:23.

month. Spotlight's Andrea Ormsby is there live for us tonight. Andrea.

:11:24.:11:32.

Yes, thank you very much. Not too bad tonight. No rain yet,

:11:33.:11:37.

but the waves are getting bigger and closer, and already over the sea

:11:38.:11:41.

wall on the other side. I have seen people running very fast away. He in

:11:42.:11:45.

North Devon, the concern is not so much about a night but tomorrow

:11:46.:11:49.

morning. The high tides around the word along the coast here are

:11:50.:11:53.

between about 6am and 7am, and it is that combination of high tides and

:11:54.:11:56.

huge winds that cause so much trouble here. People here are

:11:57.:12:01.

bracing themselves for a repeat of last month. What happened then is

:12:02.:12:04.

that the waves crashed over this role, bringing pebbles with them

:12:05.:12:08.

with so much more that they smashed through all the windows of this ice

:12:09.:12:11.

cream parlour. They are still boarded up, which I am sure the

:12:12.:12:14.

owner is pleased about tonight, at the same could happen again. Further

:12:15.:12:19.

down the coast, the sea defences were just flattened. They are

:12:20.:12:22.

basically like a huge range of pebbles built up quite high. They

:12:23.:12:27.

were flattened, have been built up again today, and coastguards at

:12:28.:12:31.

Houston night with two warnings. One, if you have a boat, don't go

:12:32.:12:34.

out in it a night with two warnings. One, if you have a boat, don't go

:12:35.:12:38.

out in it tonight tomorrow if against the wall and watch. But

:12:39.:12:41.

people are doing that already. Thank you. We will have a full forecast

:12:42.:12:52.

later on in the programme. And BBC Radio Devon and Cornwall are

:12:53.:12:55.

both on air with specials tonight about this. There is also much more

:12:56.:13:02.

on our website. In other news, a man whose mother`in`law died after a

:13:03.:13:05.

feeding tube was wrongly placed into her lung at Plymouth's Derriford

:13:06.:13:08.

Hospital says he's dismayed to hear similar mistakes are still being

:13:09.:13:09.

made. 78`year`old Muriel Elliot died in

:13:10.:13:12.

September 2007 after a nasogastric tube was misplaced. Hospital bosses

:13:13.:13:15.

said at the time they would take steps to minimise the risk of such

:13:16.:13:19.

an event happening again. But an investigation is under way after two

:13:20.:13:22.

separate nasogastric tubes were misplaced in the last three months.

:13:23.:13:32.

Scott Bingham reports. Muriel Elliot, who were 78, died of

:13:33.:13:38.

pneumonia at Derriford Hospital in September 2007. An inquest jury in

:13:39.:13:41.

2010 found that a nasogastric feeding tube, which had been wrongly

:13:42.:13:46.

inserted into her lungs, led to the infection that caused her death.

:13:47.:13:50.

Hospital bosses at the time apologised, and said they had taken

:13:51.:13:54.

a number of steps to minimise the chances of the same mistake being

:13:55.:13:59.

made again. But it has now emerged that two nasogastric tubes have been

:14:00.:14:03.

misplaced since last November. It makes me very concerned, because it

:14:04.:14:07.

basically says that all the safety, the Czechs, the procedures which

:14:08.:14:13.

they said they would bring in from 2007, clearly have not been brought

:14:14.:14:17.

in. And then we end up with the possibility of other people being

:14:18.:14:22.

hurt as a result of eight. The latest incident where a nasogastric

:14:23.:14:25.

tube was misplaced happened earlier this month. Back in last November,

:14:26.:14:29.

there was another incident where a nasogastric tube was misplaced and a

:14:30.:14:32.

second mishap where a needle was left inside a patient. An

:14:33.:14:37.

investigation is now underway, and that will decide by the end of next

:14:38.:14:44.

month or not the incident should be classified as so`called never ever,

:14:45.:14:47.

because they should never happen. In a statement today, the trust medical

:14:48.:14:49.

director said, The trust said the patients and

:14:50.:15:10.

their families had received direct apologies and pointed out there have

:15:11.:15:14.

been no further confirmed never ever since March last year.

:15:15.:15:22.

`` never events. You are watching Spotlight.

:15:23.:15:25.

We will have the latest on the weather later. Also still ahead, the

:15:26.:15:30.

pride of Southwest Rugby bash Exeter Chiefs' Jack Nowell picks up his

:15:31.:15:37.

first England cap in this week's six Nations opener.

:15:38.:15:42.

And find out what these colourful characters are doing at South Devon

:15:43.:15:43.

school. Businesses in the region say they're

:15:44.:15:52.

being held back by business rates that are set unrealistically high.

:15:53.:15:55.

Business rates are a tax based on the value of the premises firms

:15:56.:15:58.

occupy. The problem is, the last valuation was done near the top of

:15:59.:16:02.

the last property boom. Our business correspondent Neil Gallacher reports

:16:03.:16:05.

from one street that's now reeling from the result.

:16:06.:16:13.

Richard Brewster's shop is full of batteries unlike bowls, mainly. His

:16:14.:16:20.

highly specialised business in Plymouth's New George Street is

:16:21.:16:24.

doing well, and as time goes by, he is thinking of moving to a larger

:16:25.:16:27.

unit. There are suitable sites nearby, except for one thing. During

:16:28.:16:31.

the recession, rents have come down but business rates have not. It is a

:16:32.:16:37.

nationwide problem. We have now got to a situation where some of these

:16:38.:16:40.

shots, the rent might be 30,000, but the payable rate could be 50 or

:16:41.:16:44.

60,000. It is going to mean that these shops are probably not going

:16:45.:16:49.

to be filled, purely and Sibley because of business rates. At the

:16:50.:16:55.

Bartlett is one trader who did move to a bigger unit and no worries

:16:56.:16:58.

about how she can pay the business rates. They are as much as her rent

:16:59.:17:02.

bill, a situation that would have been an thinkable if you years ago.

:17:03.:17:07.

It would be very nice, and it would be a dream come true, if they could

:17:08.:17:12.

do something about this. A lot of us work seven days a week for business

:17:13.:17:18.

rates. I open seven days a week. I just want one day free. If I am not

:17:19.:17:25.

well, who will help me? The government has said delaying the

:17:26.:17:27.

re`evaluation of business rates has a lease brought financial stability

:17:28.:17:34.

to business. But some senior business figures in the south`west

:17:35.:17:37.

think that would only apply to London. They are convinced a

:17:38.:17:40.

revaluation here would only cut rates bills for companies. The

:17:41.:17:46.

government, by any language, are using this as a stealth tax. They

:17:47.:17:52.

need to get a new revaluation that accurately reflects market

:17:53.:17:55.

conditions. This is penalising a lot of businesses, many of whom are

:17:56.:17:58.

paying as much in rates of AI in rent. There are more than rates

:17:59.:18:05.

bills keeping retailers await. Competition from online is a cut

:18:06.:18:09.

huge challenge to which the High Street has no firm answer. But

:18:10.:18:13.

campaigners say a rate re`evaluation is at least something within the

:18:14.:18:17.

control of the government. Time for the sport now, and it's a

:18:18.:18:20.

big weekend for young Cornishman Jack Nowell, isn't it, Dave?

:18:21.:18:23.

It promises to be a memorable weekend for Exeter Chiefs wing Jack

:18:24.:18:28.

Nowell. The 20`year`old is one of two new caps in the England rugby

:18:29.:18:32.

team to face France in Paris on Saturday evening. It's been an

:18:33.:18:35.

astounding rise for the young man, who's the son of a trawler skipper

:18:36.:18:44.

from Newlyn. Newlyn harbour, the main and biggest

:18:45.:18:47.

fishing port of Cornwall. But this peaceful corner of the county, which

:18:48.:18:52.

boasts stunning views across mounts Bay, will be on the map for a

:18:53.:18:55.

completely different reason this weekend. Jack Nowell, the son of a

:18:56.:19:00.

Newlyn fisherman will be an international rugby player by the

:19:01.:19:04.

end of Saturday. His breakthrough into Exeter Chiefs' first team has

:19:05.:19:08.

brought in to the attention of England's head coach Stuart

:19:09.:19:12.

Lancaster, who has given Jack his chance to perform in the six Nations

:19:13.:19:15.

championship stage. I have been given this opportunity, and for me,

:19:16.:19:19.

I really want to take it. It is a big step for me. And then,

:19:20.:19:24.

obviously, the under 20s stuff was massive for me, and to be put in an

:19:25.:19:28.

given this opportunity, I am very grateful for that. I am really

:19:29.:19:32.

looking forward to it. The confidence his club give him, and

:19:33.:19:35.

they have in the selections. How highly they regard him. The first

:19:36.:19:41.

name on the team sheet, really, in the back line. His ability to beat

:19:42.:19:45.

defenders, he beats more than any other player in the premiership.

:19:46.:19:50.

Meanwhile, back in Newlyn, his family prepare for his debut in

:19:51.:19:54.

France. The Miro tea`time. He started when he was five, but it

wasn't something I thought he would immediately take two. He spent the

:19:59.:20:01.

first few months crying, holding onto my leg and saying he did not

:20:02.:20:06.

want to play. Eventually, he watched enough people and thought he would

:20:07.:20:09.

give it a go, and off he went, and he has never looked back. I think to

:20:10.:20:16.

start with, he will get a few eyeballs, with them picking up the

:20:17.:20:20.

youngster. He will get a few eyeballs, make a few breaks, and get

:20:21.:20:25.

on with the game. He never gets nervous. I always get nervous for

:20:26.:20:31.

him. Well, that is what he tells us. And as we were about to leave,

:20:32.:20:35.

another member of the family burst in. Frankly, his younger brother,

:20:36.:20:39.

had scored five goals in his school's football match. Another one

:20:40.:20:44.

to Jack's club, Exeter Chiefs, have the chance to qualify for the

:20:45.:20:47.

semi`finals of the Anglo`Welsh Cup this weekend.

:20:48.:20:48.

That's if they gain a bonus point victory at Worcester and Sale Sharks

:20:49.:20:54.

fail to do the same at Ospreys tonight. In the Championship, the

:20:55.:20:57.

Cornish Pirates should be too good for bottom side Ealing Trailfinders

:20:58.:21:00.

in Penzance on Sunday. At the Brickfields tomorrow, promotion

:21:01.:21:02.

favourites London Welsh will give Plymouth Albion a hard time as

:21:03.:21:05.

Albion look for their first league win since November.

:21:06.:21:11.

The weekend's football sees Yeovil Town attempt to do the double over

:21:12.:21:14.

Nottingham Forest. They beat them 3`1 at Huish Park last October and

:21:15.:21:18.

hope for a repeat against fifth`placed Forest to move them off

:21:19.:21:21.

the bottom of the Championship. Without a win since New Year's Day,

:21:22.:21:24.

Plymouth Argyle try to rectify that against Mansfield Town at Home Park,

:21:25.:21:27.

while Exeter City, with just two wins in the last 15 games, bid to

:21:28.:21:31.

stop their slide down League Two with a good result at Burton Albion.

:21:32.:21:39.

Winger Danny Stevens is back with Torquay United on a short`term

:21:40.:21:42.

contract until the end of the season. He could feature at

:21:43.:21:50.

Portsmouth. Finally, keep an eye on the weather

:21:51.:21:54.

tonight and tomorrow as it could affect your game. Just check with

:21:55.:21:57.

your BBC local radio station and BBC Sport online if it's on or off.

:21:58.:22:07.

Thank you very much. Now, it is probably not the first time if you

:22:08.:22:12.

told tales have been told in school, but the youngsters hearing the story

:22:13.:22:15.

in Totnes today were actually being treated to the rehearsals for a

:22:16.:22:21.

storytelling festival. The Would Sisters Winter Festival is one of

:22:22.:22:25.

the biggest one`day events launching National storytelling, and Johnny

:22:26.:22:28.

Rutherford has been along to hear a few stories.

:22:29.:22:36.

Storytelling is one of the most ancient communicative arts. This is

:22:37.:22:41.

a miming play, where 17th`century people in the community would

:22:42.:22:44.

disguise themselves and act out stories to raise some cash. This is

:22:45.:22:49.

a story where an extremely dubious looking midwife brings somebody back

:22:50.:22:53.

to life from the dead, and as you saw, the children love it. Everybody

:22:54.:22:59.

laughs. It is really a sneak preview of tomorrow's storytelling festival.

:23:00.:23:03.

Local and international storytellers will join in a full day of tales,

:23:04.:23:09.

including music, poetry, and dance, at the school. In the UK, there has

:23:10.:23:13.

been a huge revival of the old tradition, in the idea that our

:23:14.:23:16.

brains are wired to understand stories. That is what our ancestors

:23:17.:23:19.

did for thousands of years before they could write. They told stories.

:23:20.:23:24.

The spectators today certainly understood that good storytelling is

:23:25.:23:28.

essential. Same ago I find it is really interesting, because you are

:23:29.:23:31.

not in the time it happened, so you don't really know what happened. You

:23:32.:23:36.

are just telling a version that you know. It could be ` no, it is

:23:37.:23:44.

crucial in education of learning how to use your imagination and learning

:23:45.:23:50.

in what ways to use it. This is the 14th year of national story we, and

:23:51.:23:55.

17,000 people are expected to join in. That is quite a few tales.

:23:56.:24:02.

Time for the weather now. It is looking pretty dreadful.

:24:03.:24:06.

looking It is, yes, not only the strength of

:24:07.:24:10.

wins, but high tides, as you just heard. First, a quick summary. It is

:24:11.:24:15.

very windy, winds ease a little on Sunday, and it also turns a bit

:24:16.:24:20.

colder with showers tomorrow morning. They could have a wintry

:24:21.:24:24.

flavour. The main concern is the severe flood warnings that have been

:24:25.:24:27.

issued throughout the afternoon. The Environment Agency's website has

:24:28.:24:31.

them under flood warnings. Or you can telephone them. The number is on

:24:32.:24:41.

the screen. The combination of the exceptionally high tides, strong

:24:42.:24:44.

winds and very low pressure, and of course, all that water draining down

:24:45.:24:49.

into the rivers and estuaries. A great big area of low pressure, well

:24:50.:24:52.

in charge of most of the North Atlantic. This centre is going to

:24:53.:24:58.

travel down towards us overnight and into tomorrow, so even stronger

:24:59.:25:01.

winds tomorrow. There will be showers, perhaps not lengthy spells

:25:02.:25:04.

of rain, but the showers are fairly potent. One or two of them could be

:25:05.:25:09.

wintry. But it is the strength of wind that increases throughout the

:25:10.:25:12.

day, and by Sunday it is a little bit quieter. Still a breezy day for

:25:13.:25:16.

all. There is the rain we saw earlier. That is beginning to move

:25:17.:25:20.

out of the way. Behind that, something more clear. Cold air will

:25:21.:25:25.

flood in, so the showers will turning pleasingly wintry, and

:25:26.:25:28.

perhaps overly high ground of the murderers, they will deposit snow

:25:29.:25:31.

was leaked by the end of the night. It will be a cold one as well. ``

:25:32.:25:38.

the moors. Plos one or plus two degrees. That is cold enough for the

:25:39.:25:41.

risk of ice, so we have another warning about the risk of its early

:25:42.:25:44.

tomorrow morning. Shannon Lee rain that will come and go throughout the

:25:45.:25:47.

day will be to wrap a time in the world be some sunshine in between

:25:48.:25:51.

the showers, but the focus must be on the strength of wind,

:25:52.:25:55.

particularly across the North Cornwall coast and the North Devon

:25:56.:25:57.

coast through the Bristol Channel, where there could be gusts of wind

:25:58.:26:03.

of 60 to 70 mph. That is another Met Office morning for you but the

:26:04.:26:06.

strength of wind tomorrow. Gale force if not severe gale force will

:26:07.:26:12.

stop really big gusts. This is around 3pm to 6pm in the evening.

:26:13.:26:16.

Those are our temperatures tomorrow. Six or seven degrees. It will feel

:26:17.:26:22.

cold, so wrapped up warmly. For the Isles of Scilly, windy here as well

:26:23.:26:25.

with blustery showers. The waves at the end of the day tomorrow. The

:26:26.:26:30.

important high water times ` at Padstow, 6:15am. At Minehead 7:15am,

:26:31.:26:38.

and the beach is likely to be pretty dangerous tomorrow. On the north

:26:39.:26:42.

coast, between ten and 15 feet, and for surfers, it is not really worth

:26:43.:26:47.

a try. Here are the coastal waters. Wessel south`westerly seven or gale

:26:48.:26:51.

force eight, increasing nine, possibly gusts of wind to storm

:26:52.:26:56.

force ten tomorrow afternoon. E showers with generally a mainly good

:26:57.:27:00.

visibility. On Sunday, perhaps a chance to quieten down. The highest

:27:01.:27:05.

tides are on Sunday morning. Monday, more wet weather arrives, and

:27:06.:27:09.

another morning heavy rain, again becoming windy. Take care this

:27:10.:27:13.

weekend. Thank you very much. Our top story is, of course, the

:27:14.:27:18.

weather tonight. In the past few minutes, Cornwall Council has said

:27:19.:27:21.

that residents living in properties known to be high risk of flooding in

:27:22.:27:27.

Bude and Portugal should leave homes and seek temporary accommodation

:27:28.:27:30.

around the times of high tide on Saturday. Council officers are

:27:31.:27:35.

visiting or properties at risk in Bude, pure and elsewhere. You can

:27:36.:27:39.

get the latest on your local BBC Radio three. That will have special

:27:40.:27:43.

programmes the night until 10pm. From everyone here, goodbye.
