Four members of the clergy in Holsworthy

are calling on health bosses to think again over their decision

to temporarily close their community hospital.

The vicars have jointly written to the chief executive

of Northern Devon Health Care Trust demanding a rethink.

Holsworthy Hospital shut earlier this month.

There are now fears it may never reopen.

But it's not just the welfare of mothers that's on the minds

of the congregation and the reverend Richard Freeman.

He's one of four clergy to sign a letter to the Northern Devon

Health Care Trust to protest at the closure of Holsworthy Hospital.

His main concern is that his parishioners will have to travel

surrounded by people they don't know, often isolated from the people

who love and care for them, because of the distances involved.

That means at the end of their lives, when people

ought to be comforted, they're going to be alone,

Hundreds have already protested at meetings about the closure.

The letter from the clergy expresses concern that the Northern Devon

Health Care NHS Trust chose to use emergency legislation to close

They say that they want to put the care in the community but how

can you imagine running around all these roads looking

It surely would be much better to have it all in one central

If someone's had treatment elsewhere and coming back to Holsworthy,

you need that stepping stone before you go home.

Well, I think it's disgusting in an area like this where there's

so many retired people, the hospital is urgently

The trust hasn't responded to the letter yet but many

in the Holsworthy parish hope it will reconsider the closure.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found

with significant head injuries near Exeter's Quay car park.

The 29-year-old man was found in the early hours of this morning

and is now being treated at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital.

Police are trying to establish what happened and want to hear

MPs in the South West are calling for the Government to review

the DVLA's practice of selling drivers' details

The issue was debated in Parliament this week after three motorists,

who received fines in Torbay, complained to their local MP.

The Government has said it will hold futher talks with the industry.

But a trade body which oversees private operators says the DVLA
