Hi there. Well, after the last few days,

0:00:020:00:03

I'm sure many of you are crying out

0:00:030:00:05

for something a little bit more springlike in the forecast.

0:00:050:00:07

Well, I've got good news,

0:00:070:00:09

if you're fed up with scenes like this with some of us endured

0:00:090:00:12

through this weekend,

0:00:120:00:13

fast forward a few days and we could see a transformation

0:00:130:00:16

with blue skies and sunshine

0:00:160:00:18

and temperatures really will have leapt up again.

0:00:180:00:20

That's the message over the next few days,

0:00:200:00:22

slowly but surely

0:00:220:00:23

it will be turning milder.

0:00:230:00:25

A slow process, we still have got

0:00:250:00:27

those strong easterly winds,

0:00:270:00:28

but the source of the air is no longer Russia,

0:00:280:00:31

but down across the Mediterranean

0:00:310:00:33

and that's why the wind

0:00:330:00:34

isn't as cold as it has been.

0:00:340:00:36

Still not exactly warm, though,

0:00:360:00:37

quite an edge to that wind,

0:00:370:00:39

particularly where it says cloudy

0:00:390:00:40

across these more northern

0:00:400:00:41

and eastern parts of the UK.

0:00:410:00:42

Further south and west, though,

0:00:420:00:44

a bit of sunshine makes all the difference

0:00:440:00:46

compared with all the gloom of the weekend.

0:00:460:00:48

It will be windy, though,

0:00:480:00:49

no more so than across the coasts and hills

0:00:490:00:51

of West Wales and southwest England.

0:00:510:00:53

50-, 60-mile-an-hour gusts could cause some issues.

0:00:530:00:56

There are warnings in force from the Met Office.

0:00:560:00:59

So it probably won't feel as warm

0:00:590:01:01

as some of these numbers suggest.

0:01:010:01:03

Double figures across the south

0:01:030:01:04

with some sunshine but it will be windy,

0:01:040:01:06

particularly chilly where it stays cloudy

0:01:060:01:08

across the north and the east.

0:01:080:01:10

As we head into the night, and into Tuesday,

0:01:100:01:12

this little front here arrives

0:01:120:01:13

across the far southwest and

0:01:130:01:14

that will thicken up the cloud

0:01:140:01:16

and produce some showery bursts

0:01:160:01:17

of rain to southwest England,

0:01:170:01:19

southwestern parts of Wales too.

0:01:190:01:20

Further north and east,

0:01:200:01:21

it says dry, a bit of a question mark

0:01:210:01:23

about how much cloud there'll be.

0:01:230:01:24

I hope you'll see some brightness,

0:01:240:01:26

but still distinctly chilly

0:01:260:01:27

across these more northeastern areas

0:01:270:01:28

with the wind off the sea,

0:01:280:01:30

milder further south and west.

0:01:300:01:32

Now, that front saunters across the country

0:01:320:01:34

giving the odd shower,

0:01:340:01:35

followed by another system

0:01:350:01:36

which will give some heavier

0:01:360:01:38

and possibly thundery showers

0:01:380:01:39

actually, across the more western parts of the UK.

0:01:390:01:41

So, not entirely dry through the middle of the week,

0:01:410:01:43

there will be some showers around,

0:01:430:01:45

they should clear away by Thursday,

0:01:450:01:46

though, the weather settling down and look at these numbers,

0:01:460:01:49

much higher than we've seen recently.

0:01:490:01:51

So we'll be at a quiet spell,

0:01:510:01:53

I think, as we end the week.

0:01:530:01:54

A little ridge of high pressure building in,

0:01:540:01:57

maybe not for long, there are fronts lined up

0:01:570:01:59

out in the Atlantic and they'll arrive eventually,

0:01:590:02:02

but I think as we end the week,

0:02:020:02:03

it should be quite a nice day Friday

0:02:030:02:05

with some sunshine around.

0:02:050:02:07

The winds will be fairly light as well.

0:02:070:02:09

So it'll feel almost springlike, I think,

0:02:090:02:12

10 or 11 degrees quite widely.

0:02:120:02:14

These will be the sorts of scenes,

0:02:140:02:16

I think, as we end the week,

0:02:160:02:17

but with light winds overnight, it'll be cold,

0:02:170:02:21

maybe a touch of frost and there could be some fog patches around.

0:02:210:02:24

Some of those patches of fog could linger well into the day.

0:02:240:02:28

And then as we hit the weekend, it's all change,

0:02:280:02:30

because the jet stream wakes up,

0:02:300:02:32

this conveyor belt of energy coming in off the Atlantic

0:02:320:02:35

which carries weather systems.

0:02:350:02:36

It does look as if that jet stream will deliver some outbreaks

0:02:360:02:39

of rain particularly across the more northern and western areas.

0:02:390:02:42

The westerly winds will ensure

0:02:420:02:43

it's much milder than recently,

0:02:430:02:45

wettest across the northwest,

0:02:450:02:46

brightest across the southeast as we

0:02:460:02:48

go into the early part of next week.

0:02:480:02:50

Now if you were watching yesterday, I mentioned tropical influences

0:02:500:02:54

which can have a bearing on OUR weather in actual fact.

0:02:540:02:57

We see pulses of energy moving their way west to east across the tropics

0:02:570:03:02

and that tends to enhance shower activity across tropical regions

0:03:020:03:06

and it's known that these waves of energy can actually influence

0:03:060:03:10

the behaviour of our jet stream closer to home

0:03:100:03:13

and it does look as if, as we end the month,

0:03:130:03:16

that could have the effect of halting that westerly jet stream,

0:03:160:03:20

getting it blocked again,

0:03:200:03:22

deflecting weather systems and things drying up,

0:03:220:03:24

but also turning chillier again

0:03:240:03:26

as we end the month.

0:03:260:03:28

I'll update you again tomorrow.
