Hello there.

0:00:020:00:03

It's time for an extended look at the weather for the next week

0:00:030:00:05

and a little bit beyond that as well.

0:00:050:00:08

We start off looking out into the Atlantic at the jet stream,

0:00:080:00:11

that fast-flowing ribbon of air in the upper atmosphere which

0:00:110:00:14

tends to drive our weather systems.

0:00:140:00:16

So when it is quite flat like this it'll be often bringing

0:00:160:00:18

a series of weather systems to our shores.

0:00:180:00:20

So it looks like it'll be fairly changeable,

0:00:200:00:23

at least in the short term.

0:00:230:00:24

We certainly start off quite wet and quite windy across

0:00:240:00:27

Northern Ireland, Wales, in the south-west of England.

0:00:270:00:29

A bit brighter east of the Pennines.

0:00:290:00:30

Some bright spells developing in the north-east of Scotland.

0:00:300:00:33

East of the Pennines it will tend to cloud over.

0:00:330:00:35

Dribs and drabs of rain by the afternoon.

0:00:350:00:36

We'll hang onto some sunny spells in the north-east of Scotland.

0:00:360:00:39

In spite of that sunshine,

0:00:390:00:40

only seven degrees in Aberdeenshire but it is a mild 15 in the

0:00:400:00:43

London area and still some outbreaks of rain out towards the west.

0:00:430:00:46

It stays pretty breezy,

0:00:460:00:48

pretty cloudy through Saturday night on into Sunday.

0:00:480:00:50

Further outbreaks of rain across the north and west of the UK.

0:00:500:00:54

But it's going to be relatively mild by Sunday morning.

0:00:540:00:57

We've got temperatures in double figures for many and even in

0:00:570:00:59

northern Scotland it's around about four or five degrees.

0:00:590:01:03

That's because we're in a warm sector which will drift its

0:01:030:01:05

way a little bit further eastwards during the day on Sunday.

0:01:050:01:08

These weather fronts will be slipping their way

0:01:080:01:10

a little bit further south as well.

0:01:100:01:11

Notice a lot of isobars in the charts.

0:01:110:01:13

It's another windy day on Sunday

0:01:130:01:15

with cloud for many places and outbreaks of rain,

0:01:150:01:18

mainly in the north and west.

0:01:180:01:20

I think that rain will move away from southern Scotland into

0:01:200:01:23

the afternoon so a reasonable afternoon across the bulk of

0:01:230:01:25

Scotland but in northern England, parts of Wales, maybe into

0:01:250:01:28

the south-west, fairly wet through the afternoon.

0:01:280:01:30

The south-east stays essentially dry, relatively mild.

0:01:300:01:33

14 or 15 degrees. It's round about ten degrees in the Glasgow area.

0:01:330:01:36

Now, as we go through Sunday night on into Monday,

0:01:360:01:38

still a lot of isobars on the charts and we've still got

0:01:380:01:41

this weather front draped across more southern parts of the UK.

0:01:410:01:44

So it'll be another breezy day on Monday. Quite cloudy.

0:01:440:01:47

Some breaks in the east of Scotland and the north-east of England

0:01:470:01:50

of England but, generally speaking, a lot of cloud.

0:01:500:01:52

Rain across the southernmost counties,

0:01:520:01:54

scattered showers into the north and west and temperatures beginning

0:01:540:01:57

to dip back down in the north and west, back into single figures.

0:01:570:02:00

And that is a trend as we go through into Tuesday.

0:02:000:02:02

Low pressure to the north and west of the UK.

0:02:020:02:04

Winds coming around, certainly a cold wind and the wind will

0:02:040:02:08

still be quite strong during the day on Tuesday.

0:02:080:02:10

A chilly start but a bright and breezy start for many.

0:02:100:02:13

Scattered showers are likely to develop and temperatures for

0:02:130:02:16

many places by this stage will be in single figures.

0:02:160:02:19

Only six or seven degrees for Glasgow and for Newcastle.

0:02:190:02:22

So, Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:02:220:02:24

we've still got low pressure in charge of our weather.

0:02:240:02:27

This rather slow-moving weather front drifting its way across

0:02:270:02:29

England and Wales, moving from west to east.

0:02:290:02:32

You might even see a bit of wintry weather

0:02:320:02:34

over the tops of the Pennines.

0:02:340:02:35

That rain drifts its way eastwards and notice again many places are in

0:02:350:02:39

single figures so certainly a cooler feel to things early next week.

0:02:390:02:42

And then looking beyond that it gets a bit difficult, really.

0:02:420:02:46

Different computer models are doing different things but the most

0:02:460:02:48

likely scenario at the moment is that we have high pressure

0:02:480:02:51

dominating across much of the UK. Low pressure to the south.

0:02:510:02:54

The resulting winds will be coming in from the east so quite

0:02:540:02:57

a chilly breeze for some and rain is likely in between those.

0:02:570:03:01

However, that high might slip a little further south,

0:03:010:03:03

introducing more of a southerly breeze and, with low pressure

0:03:030:03:05

to the north-west, that's where we'll see most of the rain.

0:03:050:03:08

However, it looks as if high pressure will be the dominant force

0:03:080:03:12

across the bulk of the UK, even on into next weekend,

0:03:120:03:15

which will keep things dry for the most part and for most places

0:03:150:03:18

the winds will be quite light. Temperature wise,

0:03:180:03:20

it should be quite pleasant by day but still quite chilly by night.

0:03:200:03:23

Gardeners take note because there could well be

0:03:230:03:26

some fairly widespread frost. Bye for now.
