0:00:07 > 0:00:09How do you make money for nothing?

0:00:11 > 0:00:16The answer could be hiding in the 20 million tonnes of household

0:00:16 > 0:00:18waste we throw out every year.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Before you throw that away, can I have a quick chat to you about it?

0:00:21 > 0:00:22Yes, sure.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25That's why entrepreneur Sarah Moore wants to get her

0:00:25 > 0:00:28hands on things before they hit the skip.

0:00:30 > 0:00:35I am a passionate buyer, user and renovator of second hand stuff,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38and I've turned that passion into a moneymaking business.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41I turn old into new and I sell it for a profit.

0:00:42 > 0:00:47Sarah's ready to sift through as many boots and bin bags as she needs to...

0:00:47 > 0:00:51That is the most fabulous thing I've seen here. This is so exciting.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54..in her search for tip treasure.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56I love rifling through the rubbish.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02- And with some of the country's elite designers and makers...- Hello, hello.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03What have you got today?

0:01:03 > 0:01:05I want to do what's right for this piece of rubbish.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09..she can transform her finds into desirable...

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Look at that.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13- ..beautiful...- Speechless.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16- ..valuable...- You're joking.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19..and, hopefully, saleable items.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22You always talk my kind of money, Jay. I love doing deals with you.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26If Sarah is successful, then she can hand the profits back to the

0:01:26 > 0:01:32very people who had no idea there was cash to be made from their trash.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34- HE LAUGHS - Wow!

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Stockport, near Manchester.

0:01:51 > 0:01:56And at the Bredbury recycling centre, around 2,000 tonnes of stuff is

0:01:56 > 0:02:00unceremoniously chucked, dumped

0:02:00 > 0:02:03and ditched into tips every month.

0:02:03 > 0:02:08On the lookout for potential treasures is Sarah Moore.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10I'm really open-minded about what might come in today.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13I'd love to find something that's an antique or something,

0:02:13 > 0:02:18but any metal, anything we can cut up, anything we can weld together.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19So much potential.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Sarah has special permission to scout these skips,

0:02:24 > 0:02:28so please don't go raiding your local recycling centre.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Sarah is on a mission.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34She's got to save three items from the crusher that she can

0:02:34 > 0:02:38transform into something beautiful to sell on.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40How about you? Got anything exciting in there?

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Any profit she makes will go straight back to whoever dumped

0:02:43 > 0:02:48it in the first place, so they will get some money for nothing.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Sarah is in line for her first find of the day.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55She's spotted some ancient history in Robert's boot.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57Just wondering what you're chucking out today.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01- Are you dropping off the old barrow? - It is over 100 years old.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05And I have saved it. I don't know why I saved it, but I did.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07I can tell why you saved it.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11There's something so appealing about that, isn't there? It is history...

0:03:11 > 0:03:13- To us oddballs, yeah.- Yeah.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15I'm in your camp, I have to say.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18I think it came out of an old mill. They call them a sack truck.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21They used to have them on the railways. But this is a really heavy-duty one,

0:03:21 > 0:03:25- so that's going to be something industrial, isn't it?- It's made of cast-iron, many years ago.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Is there any chance you'd let me take it away

0:03:28 > 0:03:29and do something with it?

0:03:29 > 0:03:33Well, I would have to charge you a smile at least.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37- I'll definitely give you a smile for that.- And sold for a smile.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43- Bye, now.- Thank you ever so much. - Wait a minute. What about that smile?

0:03:43 > 0:03:44Lovely.

0:03:48 > 0:03:52It feels really cool. I'm just talking about your sack barrow.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54HE LAUGHS

0:03:54 > 0:03:55It has seen better days.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59It has got cast-iron wheels on the bottom and this one has worn

0:03:59 > 0:04:04away on one side, it has broken, but I think it's got great appeal.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08Sarah sees great potential, but what would Robert do?

0:04:10 > 0:04:14If she puts a plant in it, then it can be turned towards the sun in different seasons.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18But anything like that, anything old, people go potty for.

0:04:18 > 0:04:23Too true, Robert, too true. But Sarah has got other moneymaking ideas.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27This would make a fantastic coffee table.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30I'm just wondering whether we just support a huge sheet of glass on it.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34- It's great, lovely.- A coffee table -

0:04:34 > 0:04:37that's more like it!

0:04:37 > 0:04:41So Sarah has her first item, but she'll need some help.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43It's a little gold mine, that car.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45And when it comes to heavy metal,

0:04:45 > 0:04:48Sarah knows the perfect person to take this on.

0:04:52 > 0:04:56Artist blacksmith Bex Simon bangs...

0:04:56 > 0:04:58grinds...

0:04:58 > 0:05:03welds and smelts metal into bespoke beauties.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Her unique pieces are normally specially commissioned,

0:05:06 > 0:05:10so Sarah's project could be an adventure.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13Working with found objects is quite different from what

0:05:13 > 0:05:16we normally do because we work with our clients

0:05:16 > 0:05:19and we produce designs and work with them, so this is kind of,

0:05:19 > 0:05:23like, really freeing up the mind and seeing, you know,

0:05:23 > 0:05:27what object we've got and how we can make it work into something

0:05:27 > 0:05:33really cool, modern and, yeah, desirable, so it is going to be fun.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36Bex has no idea what is coming her way.

0:05:36 > 0:05:41Let's hope her imagination is ignited by the wobbly old sack barrow.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48So, that's one item swiped and two more to find.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52I'm just looking to see what's around.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55Trying to work out if I could make something out of some golf clubs

0:05:55 > 0:05:58- because somebody has just thrown a whole load away.- Hands off, Sarah.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01If it's in the skip, it is out of bounds,

0:06:01 > 0:06:03so get yourself back to those car boots.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Ooh!

0:06:06 > 0:06:10- Quite an interesting bag in there. - Hello. What's all this, then?

0:06:10 > 0:06:15Best mates Sean and Kevin have arrived with a bootful of booty.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18- What's the furniture you're dropping off?- Chest of drawers.- Oh, really?

0:06:18 > 0:06:21You've got a lucky penny down there, you better hang on to that.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23That will bring you a lot of luck. May I just have...?

0:06:23 > 0:06:25Does that just slide out?

0:06:28 > 0:06:30- Solid wood.- Yes, it's obviously been around for a bit.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32Solid wood, it's got nice dovetailed joints,

0:06:32 > 0:06:35so it's definitely got some integrity to it.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38I mean, I think anything old will eventually only go up in value

0:06:38 > 0:06:39because it gets scarcer and scarcer,

0:06:39 > 0:06:43and somebody in the end is going to say, "I just want to have that." Yeah.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46- I watched a programme and there was a wall unit.- Yeah.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49- To me, it just looked nothing.- Yeah.

0:06:49 > 0:06:53- But the value of it turned out to be just over £1,000.- Really?

0:06:53 > 0:06:57Well, you've just got to hope you've got one on your wall, haven't you?

0:06:59 > 0:07:02That is actually something we might be able to re-use,

0:07:02 > 0:07:03perhaps make into something else.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Would that be OK to take it away and see what we can do with it?

0:07:06 > 0:07:09Yes, of course it is. As long as it goes to a good home, I'm happy.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Very pleased with that, that's lovely.

0:07:11 > 0:07:14Sarah knows exactly how to make money out of this

0:07:14 > 0:07:17and Sean has got ideas of his own.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20I would sand it down, re-stain it,

0:07:20 > 0:07:22put some new handles on,

0:07:22 > 0:07:25tidy it up and sell it at auction or something.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28Brown furniture has got such a bad reputation

0:07:28 > 0:07:30and, when you look at this, you can probably imagine why,

0:07:30 > 0:07:33but I think that we have some potential here.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37Second item saved and Sarah knows someone who can help

0:07:37 > 0:07:40the drawers make more than just a pretty penny.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46Exciting young designer Zoe Murphy has taken the reconditioned

0:07:46 > 0:07:48furniture world by storm.

0:07:50 > 0:07:55Zoe is a screen printing and textile design queen.

0:07:55 > 0:08:00Her bright, '50s-inspired designs add a burst of colour to old furniture.

0:08:00 > 0:08:04She even sells bespoke pieces to the Liberty of London,

0:08:04 > 0:08:06and her work sells at a premium.

0:08:06 > 0:08:11I work predominantly by putting images onto old pieces of furniture.

0:08:11 > 0:08:15Everything I make is, a lot of the time, about fun.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17I'm based in Margate.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21I really kind of revel in all the faded glory and glamour of the place,

0:08:21 > 0:08:24so I really believe things should always be given a second chance,

0:08:24 > 0:08:28and I try to see the good in stuff like that.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31Well, let's hope she can see the good in those old drawers.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34It's going to take more than a few flowery stencils to make them

0:08:34 > 0:08:36into something saleable,

0:08:36 > 0:08:40but I'm sure Zoe has what it takes. Touch wood.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Now Sarah has got to search for her third

0:08:46 > 0:08:50and final item that will put her own talents to good use,

0:08:50 > 0:08:54and she's found the perfect bit of kit for a nosy parker.

0:08:54 > 0:08:55I'm loving this.

0:08:55 > 0:08:59This has given me a whole new dimension to the recycling centre.

0:08:59 > 0:09:01I don't have to run up and down any more, this is brilliant.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04Might do some bird-watching as well.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09Well, Sarah, you're not far off a magpie yourself

0:09:09 > 0:09:12and if there's one thing magpies like, it's metal.

0:09:12 > 0:09:16Nicola and Steven's kitchen ceiling is in the back of their van -

0:09:16 > 0:09:18strange place to keep it -

0:09:18 > 0:09:22- but Sarah has spotted something shiny in there.- Hiya.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25- What are you doing there? What are you chucking out?- Copper pipe

0:09:25 > 0:09:28- and the ceiling from the kitchen. - Have you had a bit of a shocker?

0:09:28 > 0:09:32- Mm-hm.- Who left the bath on, then? - It's the shower.- Oh, really.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35I'm loving the copper pipe. Any chance I can have a look at it?

0:09:35 > 0:09:38- It is all yours. - Really?- All yours.- I think...

0:09:38 > 0:09:40Brilliant.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43This is just what I need. I love the fact that it is all worn out.

0:09:43 > 0:09:44So you're getting a whole new bathroom

0:09:44 > 0:09:47- and whole new kitchen ceiling? - All at the same time.

0:09:47 > 0:09:52- Fitted kitchen.- Now we've got to do the bathroom.- At the same time.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55If there is any value in what I make out of it, that'll be coming

0:09:55 > 0:09:58to you, so maybe it can help pay for a new sink or something like that.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01- That's fab. Thank you ever so much for that. Thank you.- Thank you.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05- Brilliant, I've been looking for those all day.- Copper load of that.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07Uh! Oh, dear.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10Now, I'm really pleased with this. Look at those.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13A whole load of copper pipes. They've got heaps of potential

0:10:13 > 0:10:16and I think I can make a load of money out of them.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19I'm not going to tell you how, though. This is my little secret.

0:10:19 > 0:10:23I reckon she'll make a trombone, or some dangly earrings.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26Yeah, might get some for the missus.

0:10:27 > 0:10:28Sarah is going to turn Nicola

0:10:28 > 0:10:32and Steven's domestic disaster into a lucky break,

0:10:32 > 0:10:34but how?

0:10:34 > 0:10:36- I have no idea. - THEY LAUGH

0:10:36 > 0:10:37No idea.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40We'll get on with our brand-new kitchen

0:10:40 > 0:10:42- and a brand-new bathroom now.- Yeah.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44THEY LAUGH

0:10:44 > 0:10:47Well, it all sounds like a bit of a pipe dream to me.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52Sarah's three-piece scavenger hunt is complete.

0:10:52 > 0:10:56Bex will give Robert's sack barrow an uplift,

0:10:56 > 0:11:01Zoe will wake up the tired chest of drawers Sean and Kevin brought in

0:11:01 > 0:11:03and Sarah is going to turn those scrappy old

0:11:03 > 0:11:07coppers into a golden opportunity for Nicola and Steven -

0:11:07 > 0:11:09if only we knew how.

0:11:10 > 0:11:14I've found some absolute little gems here today.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16They might look like diamonds in the rough at the moment,

0:11:16 > 0:11:19but I'm going to turn them into things that totally sparkle

0:11:19 > 0:11:21and make money out of them along the way.

0:11:30 > 0:11:31Sarah's first stop

0:11:31 > 0:11:35is deep in the heart of the picturesque Surrey countryside...

0:11:36 > 0:11:40..where, in amongst the tranquillity of country living...

0:11:41 > 0:11:44WHIR OF POWER TOOLS

0:11:44 > 0:11:45..there are sparks...

0:11:47 > 0:11:48..hammers...

0:11:50 > 0:11:51..and fire.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55Lots and lots of fire.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57Whoa!

0:11:57 > 0:12:00Sarah's brought the old sack barrow

0:12:00 > 0:12:01to see what Bex can make of it.

0:12:03 > 0:12:08I'm really looking forward to seeing what Sarah is going to bring today.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Probably something really strange.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13So, yeah, I'm looking forward to having a look.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15I don't know what it is going to be.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18I guess that is part of the challenge, so...

0:12:18 > 0:12:21Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing what it is.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23Did you hear me coming?

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Bex works side-by-side with husband Dave,

0:12:25 > 0:12:28who'll be helping out on this one.

0:12:28 > 0:12:32I'm sort of wondering if the old sack barrow might be a coffee table.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37Yeah, I was wondering what we were going to turn it into.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39So, yeah, we could do a coffee table.

0:12:39 > 0:12:43Perhaps it's something we're finding some way of getting some glass over,

0:12:43 > 0:12:46so we can really see the industrial sack barrow-thing left underneath.

0:12:46 > 0:12:50And you still want to be able to move it around using the wheels?

0:12:50 > 0:12:52Yeah, I think that would be really cool.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55If we could find a way of not making the glass slip off -

0:12:55 > 0:12:56that would be great!

0:12:56 > 0:12:58Any thoughts about how to finish it?

0:12:58 > 0:13:02I'm thinking, maybe, keep the old rusty metal...

0:13:02 > 0:13:05Maybe add some colour into the wood.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09One option for treating the wood is to have a scorched finish.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12- BANG! - Whoa!

0:13:12 > 0:13:14It doesn't just give a distinctive burnt look,

0:13:14 > 0:13:17it also creates a charcoal barrier

0:13:17 > 0:13:19that is rot and fire resistant.

0:13:19 > 0:13:23It darkens it all down a lot, though, that's the thing.

0:13:23 > 0:13:27Or, another option, if you really want to look the biz -

0:13:27 > 0:13:28paint it gold.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32Yeah, so maybe it's just rub back, gold paint on, wax up?

0:13:32 > 0:13:35I would just mix it up, keep going for it until you get

0:13:35 > 0:13:36somewhere that you really like,

0:13:36 > 0:13:39try it on the samples, and then just make a plan and go for it.

0:13:39 > 0:13:43Whatever finish they do go for, it can't be too expensive

0:13:43 > 0:13:47because Sarah wants to stoke up a profit on this one.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Realistically, I'm looking at £400 to sell it for?

0:13:53 > 0:13:55If we've got 50 quid's worth of materials,

0:13:55 > 0:13:59maybe I'm trying to give 150 quid back to the guy at the dump,

0:13:59 > 0:14:01that would leave 200 quid to transform it.

0:14:01 > 0:14:04- It's going to be a morning's work, isn't it? For the two of us.- Yeah.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06Going really fast.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09- If we keep it really simple... - No cups of tea.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13No phone fiddling!

0:14:13 > 0:14:15No. No social media.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18- Oh, no! - Hell for leather, OK?

0:14:18 > 0:14:20Well, if Dave can stop fiddling with his phone,

0:14:20 > 0:14:22they should be onto a winner.

0:14:22 > 0:14:26So, with this piece, we're not after a massive transformation.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28We're going to use all of those shapes

0:14:28 > 0:14:30and all of that heritage that I get from the sack barrow

0:14:30 > 0:14:34and just turn it into something lovely to go into somebody's home.

0:14:34 > 0:14:37You never know, we might even make some money from it, too.

0:14:38 > 0:14:41Bex and Dave are charging £200 for the work...

0:14:44 > 0:14:48..but they're all forgetting to budget in the glass tabletop.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50I bet that won't be cheap

0:14:50 > 0:14:53and it could even eat into the profit margin.

0:15:02 > 0:15:04The seaside town of Margate

0:15:04 > 0:15:06has had an upcycle of its own

0:15:06 > 0:15:08since the opening of the Turner Contemporary

0:15:08 > 0:15:10put it back on the art lover's map.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15Its rich history is now fused with the contemporary art scene,

0:15:15 > 0:15:20buoyed along by a vibrant community of designers and artists.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23At the epicentre of this artistic boom town

0:15:23 > 0:15:25is designer-maker Zoe Murphy,

0:15:25 > 0:15:28who is expecting a visit from Sarah.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32She usually brings me storage items,

0:15:32 > 0:15:36so I'm really wanting to think up some patterns and prints and colours

0:15:36 > 0:15:39to go with anything that might come through the door.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41But if they are on their way to the tip,

0:15:41 > 0:15:44it's not always because they're in the best nick.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47But, erm, as I don't know what it's going to be,

0:15:47 > 0:15:48it is quite exciting.

0:15:48 > 0:15:49Hiya! How are you doing?

0:15:49 > 0:15:52Oh, look, do you want to hand?

0:15:52 > 0:15:56Aw, bless. It's like the worn out chest of drawers is in for rehab.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58Time for some serious TLC.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02It's definitely seen better days.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05We're lucky to save it cos it was really close

0:16:05 > 0:16:06- to being chucked away.- Yeah.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09We're missing one of the stops there,

0:16:09 > 0:16:11that suspends the drawer

0:16:11 > 0:16:13at the right place.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16And it's quite smelly, as well, isn't it?

0:16:16 > 0:16:19I don't bring you quality!

0:16:19 > 0:16:21It feels to me, really, quite bedroom-y...

0:16:21 > 0:16:23and it would be more interesting

0:16:23 > 0:16:26and probably more valuable, I was thinking, if we could position it

0:16:26 > 0:16:29as something people have in their living room or kitchen.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Maybe something to do with drinks or...

0:16:31 > 0:16:33- Yes, yeah. - Something a bit more exciting.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35We could add other components to the top

0:16:35 > 0:16:40to make it much more of a drinks cabinet that's a bit more suggestive

0:16:40 > 0:16:43of, kind of, like, maybe 1950s, sort of, American-style stuff.

0:16:43 > 0:16:47Maybe some palm trees and some flamingos, and things like that.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50I'm thinking pink legs coming off the bottom.

0:16:50 > 0:16:54You can do whatever you like to it, but that fun cocktail-hour moment...

0:16:54 > 0:16:55I think it'd be fantastic.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58Oh, I love palm trees and I've got the pink legs.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01Throw in some cocktails and I'm in heaven!

0:17:01 > 0:17:04But how much is Zoe's redesign going to cost?

0:17:07 > 0:17:09I know that you have really good prices on your furniture

0:17:09 > 0:17:11because they are great pieces.

0:17:11 > 0:17:14What can you do with this little thing?

0:17:14 > 0:17:18Erm... I think probably around £600 in cost, from our studio,

0:17:18 > 0:17:19to do this for you.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21I'm so pleased you're going to take it on and

0:17:21 > 0:17:24I look forward to a celebratory cocktail from this

0:17:24 > 0:17:26- when you're all done. - Yes, I think so.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31That has made my day.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33What a fantastic idea.

0:17:33 > 0:17:34I am a massive cocktail fan

0:17:34 > 0:17:37and I can't wait to see those designs.

0:17:37 > 0:17:38Right, Zoe, Sarah's gone.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41Come on, what do you really think?

0:17:41 > 0:17:44Well, the condition of this one is really bad.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48Erm... But sometimes that's quite exciting.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51I like having to go really far in restoration of a piece.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53Yeah, this one's going to be quite a bit of work,

0:17:53 > 0:17:55but I'm looking forward

0:17:55 > 0:17:58to making a beautiful swan out of a very ugly duckling.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03So, it's all go for the cocktail look,

0:18:03 > 0:18:07but will it be more Cosmopolitan than Rusty Nail?

0:18:07 > 0:18:11Zoe's talents and time will cost around £600,

0:18:11 > 0:18:14so this self-effacing little chest will really need

0:18:14 > 0:18:18to be all-singing, all-dancing for Sarah to make a profit here.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24The designers are firmly on board.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27Now Sarah needs to get her own hands dirty.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30At her barn in rural Sussex,

0:18:30 > 0:18:34Sarah's children Libby and Edward are doing some upcycling of their own.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37But what about those copper pipes?

0:18:37 > 0:18:42I had this vision of making some designer lighting.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45But, now they come to be sitting on the desk,

0:18:45 > 0:18:48I'm feeling that they are going to have to go through quite a process

0:18:48 > 0:18:51to be something that you'd really want to have in the sitting room,

0:18:51 > 0:18:53or in your bedroom, or on your desk.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55How hard could it be?

0:18:55 > 0:18:58I'm sure you'll be done in time for tea.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01I've got this block that was outside in the stable yard when we moved in.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04I'm not sure what it's for, but it's really hefty

0:19:04 > 0:19:06and I've been using it as a doorstop.

0:19:06 > 0:19:09I'm hoping that would make a really good base for a chunky light.

0:19:09 > 0:19:12Something else for free - I like it.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15But Sarah has had to buy some shiny plumbing bits

0:19:15 > 0:19:17and handy lighting fittings.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20If I take off the bulb,

0:19:20 > 0:19:22I'll be able to feed it through my light

0:19:22 > 0:19:24and I'll have some sort of ready-made lighting

0:19:24 > 0:19:26that is already safe and tested

0:19:26 > 0:19:30that I won't have to go and get an electrician to wire up for me.

0:19:30 > 0:19:31That's the plan.

0:19:33 > 0:19:34I like plan.

0:19:37 > 0:19:39And this...I am pretty sure is oak,

0:19:39 > 0:19:42and I know that that is a really tough wood.

0:19:43 > 0:19:45And she's right - it's heavy going.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50I know oak's a hard wood, but this is ridiculous.

0:19:50 > 0:19:51Sarah needs some ancestral help.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53These are my grandfather's carving tools

0:19:53 > 0:19:57and I've just read on the front - it says, "Special carving tools."

0:19:57 > 0:19:58So sweet.

0:20:05 > 0:20:06Now what?

0:20:06 > 0:20:08Erm...

0:20:08 > 0:20:09A bit of metalwork, I think.

0:20:11 > 0:20:13So, these pipe-cutters are really simple things

0:20:13 > 0:20:15and, hopefully, I just click it on,

0:20:15 > 0:20:18move it around and it should cut pipe, so...

0:20:20 > 0:20:21METAL CLICKS

0:20:21 > 0:20:23Here I go.

0:20:33 > 0:20:34Musically gifted as well...

0:20:34 > 0:20:36BLOWS LOW NOTE

0:20:36 > 0:20:38..but Libby doesn't look impressed.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42The new plumbing parts ensure the old imperial one-inch pipes

0:20:42 > 0:20:44fit into the metric-sized hole

0:20:44 > 0:20:46that Sarah has just drilled,

0:20:46 > 0:20:49and they add some bright, shiny detail to boot.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52Right, back to that wood block.

0:20:52 > 0:20:54POWER TOOL WHIRS

0:20:55 > 0:20:57It really is a labour of love

0:20:57 > 0:20:59turning an old lump of wood

0:20:59 > 0:21:02into a piece of lighting...

0:21:02 > 0:21:05with the help of some bits from the tip.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13Once that flex is thread through, she'll be home and dry. Easy.

0:21:13 > 0:21:17I'm just trying to feed the end of the wire through.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30For goodness' sake!

0:21:30 > 0:21:33It's really not your day, is it?

0:21:33 > 0:21:35Gently pull that bit...

0:21:36 > 0:21:38Gently does it.

0:21:39 > 0:21:40Almost there, now.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43By the time I get this finished, I will need light

0:21:43 > 0:21:45because it'll be so late.

0:21:45 > 0:21:47OK, I was wrong,

0:21:47 > 0:21:49it might not be done in time for tea.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51But, despite appearances,

0:21:51 > 0:21:52Sarah's almost finished.

0:21:58 > 0:22:02At the forge, Bex is forging ahead, funnily enough,

0:22:02 > 0:22:05with the sack barrow-cum-coffee table.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08And, in the end, for that all-important finish to the wood,

0:22:08 > 0:22:11they've decided to, well...

0:22:11 > 0:22:12keep it looking like wood.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16But, exciting news just in -

0:22:16 > 0:22:18Bex has a new metal idea.

0:22:19 > 0:22:20Because it's a coffee table,

0:22:20 > 0:22:23and it's a bit wibbly-wobbly,

0:22:23 > 0:22:25we need to sort of strengthen it,

0:22:25 > 0:22:28so I thought I'd make a bit of a, like,

0:22:28 > 0:22:31a magazine rack at the bottom.

0:22:31 > 0:22:35To save time and money, Bex lets the machines do the hard work.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38You're meant to do this hot,

0:22:38 > 0:22:40but because it's tube,

0:22:40 > 0:22:42you can get away with it.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45Every blacksmith's best friend is the forging hammer.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49This beast will flatten the crossbeams of the magazine rack,

0:22:49 > 0:22:51ready to rivet,

0:22:51 > 0:22:53and then there's an important feature to add.

0:22:53 > 0:22:57So, we're now going to stamp it with our maker's mark,

0:22:57 > 0:23:01so whoever's using the coffee table

0:23:01 > 0:23:04can always remember it was made by us.

0:23:04 > 0:23:07And it'll be worth millions one day.

0:23:07 > 0:23:08Ready?

0:23:09 > 0:23:11Where's the mark?

0:23:11 > 0:23:14It's this way round. Got to get it right.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16- OK.- Yeah?- Yeah, ready.

0:23:16 > 0:23:18Watch those fingers!

0:23:19 > 0:23:21There we go.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24It looks like a million dollars!

0:23:24 > 0:23:29While Bex shapes the beams that will support the glass tabletop...

0:23:29 > 0:23:31I think it's going to look nice.

0:23:31 > 0:23:32"I think"? I know! I know.

0:23:32 > 0:23:37..she can outsource some less important work to Dave.

0:23:37 > 0:23:39Dave, can you take off...?

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Scrape off some of that...

0:23:43 > 0:23:44..stuff?

0:23:46 > 0:23:48Thanks.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51It's definitely a labourer's job, I think, cleaning muck.

0:23:53 > 0:23:54We each decide who does what

0:23:54 > 0:23:57and then we have an argument about it.

0:23:57 > 0:24:00Oh, I'm definitely the boss.

0:24:00 > 0:24:01Of course. Naturally.

0:24:03 > 0:24:04But, no, we do...

0:24:04 > 0:24:06We complement each other cos we're sort of...

0:24:06 > 0:24:08I'm like, "Rah!"

0:24:08 > 0:24:10And he's the more grounded one.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14With the dirty work done,

0:24:14 > 0:24:16it's time for some teamwork.

0:24:16 > 0:24:20This is where it all goes wrong.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24The magazine rack beams are being riveted together,

0:24:24 > 0:24:26but it's dangerous work.

0:24:26 > 0:24:30Steel has to reach a temperature of 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit

0:24:30 > 0:24:33before it can be hammered into place.

0:24:37 > 0:24:38SHE SHOUTS

0:24:38 > 0:24:40Ouch!

0:24:40 > 0:24:41Look!

0:24:41 > 0:24:43That might slow things down a bit.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45- Why has it gone like that? - I don't know.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47She hits her hand all the time.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49I wouldn't worry about it.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51No, it's just a bit swollen for now.

0:24:51 > 0:24:53HE LAUGHS

0:24:53 > 0:24:55You're all heart, Dave.

0:24:55 > 0:24:57It's all right, it didn't fall off.

0:24:57 > 0:24:59SHE LAUGHS

0:24:59 > 0:25:00It's not broken.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03I just hit it quite hard.

0:25:04 > 0:25:06Anyway, back to work! Come on, then.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08- What a trouper!- Oh, don't.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10It's really embarrassing.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13I'm going to hit it this time.

0:25:13 > 0:25:16Hopefully, I'll hit the snap tool and not my hand.

0:25:16 > 0:25:19With this sack barrow in safe hands -

0:25:19 > 0:25:23well, in hand - everyone is fired up in Surrey.

0:25:23 > 0:25:25But, with a glass tabletop still to buy,

0:25:25 > 0:25:28the profit might be the one taking a hit.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34In Margate, Zoe is getting to grips

0:25:34 > 0:25:36with the small chest of drawers,

0:25:36 > 0:25:39but it's showing signs of previous employment.

0:25:41 > 0:25:45It's definitely had some time, probably in a shed,

0:25:45 > 0:25:48as a painter and decorator's assistant.

0:25:48 > 0:25:52It's currently just a sort of very thin ply,

0:25:52 > 0:25:54which will lift off.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56Erm... There we go.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58Stage one - remove lid.

0:25:58 > 0:26:02And, erm, so I'm probably going to fit a new one.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04There's a lot of repair that needs to get done.

0:26:04 > 0:26:05And on closer inspection,

0:26:05 > 0:26:07Zoe is having a change of heart

0:26:07 > 0:26:10about this chest's future prospects.

0:26:10 > 0:26:14I talked to Sarah about turning it into some sort of...

0:26:14 > 0:26:15cocktail bar or cabinet,

0:26:15 > 0:26:19but I don't know how convinced I am with that idea.

0:26:19 > 0:26:23I like the idea, maybe, of turning it into a dressing table instead.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26So, the high-legged cocktail idea has morphed into

0:26:26 > 0:26:30somewhere to get dressed up for cocktails instead.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32Meh, I could live with that.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36Zoe wants the finished dresser to evoke a glitzy '50s era,

0:26:36 > 0:26:38with feathery birds, super bright colours

0:26:38 > 0:26:40and ornately lined drawers.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43It's just MY style, funnily enough.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46But does Zoe's redesign have legs?

0:26:46 > 0:26:49Yes, but not for long.

0:26:49 > 0:26:51They're in really disgusting condition

0:26:51 > 0:26:54and they've gotten damp at some point. That's OK, though.

0:26:54 > 0:26:56It's a good incentive to get rid of the legs.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59I've actually found some that I like the look of.

0:26:59 > 0:27:02In a sense, I'm putting some high heels on the piece, so...

0:27:02 > 0:27:03Yeah.

0:27:03 > 0:27:05Going to say goodbye to the mouldy old legs.

0:27:05 > 0:27:07Sorry, legs! Off you get.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26Carpentry over, it's time for the arty bit.

0:27:26 > 0:27:28So, I've always been really keen to make this piece

0:27:28 > 0:27:30all about glitz, glamour

0:27:30 > 0:27:33and I'm desperate to include some element of, sort of,

0:27:33 > 0:27:35flouncy flamingos in it as well.

0:27:35 > 0:27:39Zoe's creations feature intricate silk-screen designs,

0:27:39 > 0:27:42but she's going to start off with some large blocks of colour.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45I'm going to create some of the bigger shapes with a very bright pink.

0:27:53 > 0:27:55I'm really happy with that.

0:27:56 > 0:27:57Got a little bit there to fill in,

0:27:57 > 0:27:59where there's been a chip.

0:27:59 > 0:28:03Apart from that, I just need to do a lot more and put in some detail.

0:28:04 > 0:28:06The prettifying is well under way

0:28:06 > 0:28:09and the coy little chest is on course

0:28:09 > 0:28:13for a much brighter future as some classy uptown junk.

0:28:20 > 0:28:22At her barn in Sussex,

0:28:22 > 0:28:24Sarah is finishing off the lights

0:28:24 > 0:28:27made from Nicola and Steven's copper pipes.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30SHE MUMBLES

0:28:32 > 0:28:36I just think I might stick it in place there, like that.

0:28:36 > 0:28:39Now, I am going to fill this whole cavity with very gluey glue...

0:28:41 > 0:28:44..and hope it all gels together beautifully.

0:28:50 > 0:28:54It was a bit of a challenge making a bespoke piece of lighting,

0:28:54 > 0:28:55but, actually, I think these copper pipes

0:28:55 > 0:28:58that were hidden away under the floorboards

0:28:58 > 0:29:01now look like they should definitely be on show.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06Before this old bent copper was beat up and done for.

0:29:07 > 0:29:10Now, with Sarah's creative vision and a lot of hard graft,

0:29:10 > 0:29:14the metal's been married up with a chunk of found oak wood

0:29:14 > 0:29:18and repurposed as edgy industrial lighting.

0:29:19 > 0:29:23It would look great in a New York-style penthouse apartment,

0:29:23 > 0:29:25or even my two-bed bungalow.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28Now, Sarah needs to get selling.

0:29:33 > 0:29:34At the skip,

0:29:34 > 0:29:38Nicola and Stephen's battered copper pipes were swiped by Sarah

0:29:38 > 0:29:40after a kitchen catastrophe.

0:29:40 > 0:29:42What are you chucking out?

0:29:42 > 0:29:45The copper pipe and the ceiling from the kitchen.

0:29:45 > 0:29:46Sarah had money-making plans,

0:29:46 > 0:29:48but they couldn't guess what.

0:29:48 > 0:29:50I have no idea.

0:29:50 > 0:29:51THEY LAUGH

0:29:51 > 0:29:53Sarah created some bespoke lighting...

0:29:55 > 0:30:00..and it was snapped up by a trendy retro and vintage shop in London.

0:30:02 > 0:30:04And she's back in Stockport

0:30:04 > 0:30:06to let Nicola and Stephen know

0:30:06 > 0:30:08that their old copper has made them some gold.

0:30:12 > 0:30:14- Hiya.- Hi.- Nice to see you again. Sarah. Hiya.

0:30:14 > 0:30:16- Hello.- Hello. How are you? - Are you all right?

0:30:16 > 0:30:19Yeah, really well. How are you doing?

0:30:19 > 0:30:21- Very well, thank you. - Not bad.- Not bad?

0:30:21 > 0:30:23So, when I saw you at the tip,

0:30:23 > 0:30:25you'd had a bit of a shocker with your plumbing, hadn't you?

0:30:25 > 0:30:28- Yep.- Yes, indeed. - What had happened, exactly?

0:30:28 > 0:30:31We were renovating the kitchen and, as we pulled the false ceiling down,

0:30:31 > 0:30:34we saw a leak from the bathroom,

0:30:34 > 0:30:37so we now know that we have to re-do the bathroom, on top of the kitchen.

0:30:37 > 0:30:39And is that all sorted out now?

0:30:39 > 0:30:41- No.- The bathroom's not. Kitchen's done.

0:30:41 > 0:30:46- Excellent.- Bathroom's...- Ongoing.

0:30:46 > 0:30:48Well, it was a bit of luck, for us, that that happened.

0:30:48 > 0:30:50Obviously, not for you!

0:30:50 > 0:30:53But those little bits of copper

0:30:53 > 0:30:56that you let us have, were really useful.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59- We turned them into lighting. - Lighting...?

0:30:59 > 0:31:02Did you have any idea what we might make?

0:31:02 > 0:31:05- No.- No, no, no.- Do you want to see a picture of what we did?- Yes.- Yeah.

0:31:07 > 0:31:08- Wow!- Oh!

0:31:08 > 0:31:11- That's great!- Strange.- Do you approve?- Yeah! That's great.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14- It's lovely, yeah.- Would that fit in with the new house, or not something you'd have?

0:31:14 > 0:31:16Yeah, I would!

0:31:16 > 0:31:19With all the materials and having it all checked over by the electrician,

0:31:19 > 0:31:22it cost 80 quid to convert it into a light.

0:31:22 > 0:31:24So, erm...

0:31:24 > 0:31:26It has actually sold.

0:31:26 > 0:31:27Oh.

0:31:27 > 0:31:31- Are you surprised? - I thought I was going to get it!

0:31:31 > 0:31:33No, I'm sorry, sir, you don't get the light,

0:31:33 > 0:31:36but what you do get is 55 quid's worth of profit.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38That's mine. It's my pipe.

0:31:38 > 0:31:42There's 55 quid there for your old pipes.

0:31:42 > 0:31:45- Superb.- That's amazing. Wow. - NICOLA MURMURS

0:31:45 > 0:31:47- I know who's in charge! - Yes, that's it.

0:31:47 > 0:31:49I can't believe that.

0:31:52 > 0:31:54Sarah spent £80 on materials

0:31:54 > 0:31:57and sold the finished lighting for £135,

0:31:57 > 0:32:01making £55 of a profit for Nicola and Stephen.

0:32:02 > 0:32:05With the money, I think we'll put it towards our bathroom renovations.

0:32:05 > 0:32:09Maybe get some nice fittings or new towels or something.

0:32:10 > 0:32:12Towels!

0:32:19 > 0:32:22So the copper lights were a great success.

0:32:22 > 0:32:24Back at the blacksmith's bunker,

0:32:24 > 0:32:27Bex and Dave are putting the finishing touch to the sack barrow -

0:32:27 > 0:32:30the all-important glass tabletop.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36The toughened glass has been custom cut

0:32:36 > 0:32:38and screws will hold it firmly in place.

0:32:40 > 0:32:43Now all they can do is wait for Sarah.

0:32:44 > 0:32:46It looks quite sweet.

0:32:46 > 0:32:49So, no, I feel quite pleased. Do you feel pleased?

0:32:49 > 0:32:52It's... No, it's turned out good.

0:32:52 > 0:32:54You can see it in someone's home.

0:32:54 > 0:32:56It was quite a challenge, to be fair.

0:32:56 > 0:32:58You know, but, yeah...

0:32:58 > 0:33:00It's worked out quite nicely.

0:33:03 > 0:33:06I've come to pick up the sack barrow/coffee table.

0:33:07 > 0:33:10I left it and it was in a terrible state.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14And Bex and I have had a brief chat about what she might be able to do

0:33:14 > 0:33:17to get a frame and some glass on top of it,

0:33:17 > 0:33:19but I have to say my expectations are very much...on the level.

0:33:22 > 0:33:25This old sack barrow was destined for the tip...

0:33:26 > 0:33:29..but now it's a tiptop designer table.

0:33:30 > 0:33:32It's truly one-of-a-kind.

0:33:35 > 0:33:37But what will Sarah think?

0:33:38 > 0:33:39Hiya.

0:33:39 > 0:33:42How are you? Oh, my word!

0:33:42 > 0:33:44Oh! I absolutely love it.

0:33:44 > 0:33:46It looks like mid-century.

0:33:46 > 0:33:47It looks so cool.

0:33:47 > 0:33:49I think what you've done to it is...

0:33:51 > 0:33:53- ..really good. - It's worked out well.

0:33:53 > 0:33:57Like, the metal sort of looks leathery, doesn't it?

0:33:57 > 0:33:59Oh, seriously?!

0:33:59 > 0:34:02- Oh, my goodness! - I absolutely love it, really.

0:34:02 > 0:34:03Oh, really? Oh, my gosh.

0:34:03 > 0:34:07I'll give you a hug. I really smell cos I'm wearing yesterday's shirt.

0:34:09 > 0:34:11You are a little genius, girl. That is fantastic.

0:34:11 > 0:34:15Go on, get in there for a cuddle, Dave!

0:34:15 > 0:34:16Maybe later.

0:34:16 > 0:34:20Have you ever felt like that about any of the other pieces?

0:34:20 > 0:34:23I don't think I've ever cried over a sack barrow before!

0:34:23 > 0:34:26THEY LAUGH

0:34:26 > 0:34:28It's a daily occurrence for me.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34Now Sarah just needs to find a buyer who feels as passionately.

0:34:34 > 0:34:38I absolutely LOVE this table.

0:34:38 > 0:34:43It was a sack barrow, now it is a beautiful interior designer piece.

0:34:43 > 0:34:46All their hard work has made it just stunning.

0:34:46 > 0:34:48What an amazing reaction!

0:34:48 > 0:34:50We're just going to have to achieve that every time, now.

0:34:50 > 0:34:53The pressure is on!

0:34:53 > 0:34:55Bex and Dave came in on budget,

0:34:55 > 0:34:59but with the glass tabletop costing £125,

0:34:59 > 0:35:03this low table needs a high price tag.

0:35:08 > 0:35:09Back at the dump...

0:35:11 > 0:35:14..Sarah got an offer she couldn't refuse...

0:35:14 > 0:35:18Well, I'd have to charge you a smile. At least a smile.

0:35:18 > 0:35:20I'll definitely give you a smile for that.

0:35:20 > 0:35:23..and took on Robert's old sack barrow.

0:35:23 > 0:35:26Robert appreciated its aged appeal...

0:35:26 > 0:35:30Anything like that, anything old, people go potty for.

0:35:30 > 0:35:33..but it was up to Sarah to come up with a plan.

0:35:33 > 0:35:35This would make a fantastic coffee table.

0:35:35 > 0:35:38And with the help of Bex and Dave,

0:35:38 > 0:35:40that's exactly what it became.

0:35:40 > 0:35:43Sarah showed the table to Martin at her barn.

0:35:43 > 0:35:45Martin owns the vintage shop in London

0:35:45 > 0:35:47that took the copper lighting,

0:35:47 > 0:35:50so he's added the table to his collection of things

0:35:50 > 0:35:52to sell on to retro fans.

0:35:55 > 0:35:58Bex and Dave's work cost £200

0:35:58 > 0:36:03and the glass tabletop took the total cost to £325.

0:36:03 > 0:36:05It was sold for £475,

0:36:05 > 0:36:09making a profit of £150 for Robert.

0:36:11 > 0:36:14So, I've sold the table that was made out of the sack barrow

0:36:14 > 0:36:16that Robert dropped off at the tip,

0:36:16 > 0:36:18but he doesn't want the money,

0:36:18 > 0:36:20so I'm going to give it to Children In Need instead.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25With two out of three items sold for a profit,

0:36:25 > 0:36:26it is looking good,

0:36:26 > 0:36:29but Sarah wants to score a hat-trick.

0:36:29 > 0:36:32In Margate, Zoe is putting the finishing touches

0:36:32 > 0:36:34to the chest of drawers.

0:36:37 > 0:36:40And the excitement's mounting on pick-up day

0:36:40 > 0:36:44because Sarah hadn't seen it for, well, ages.

0:36:44 > 0:36:46Sarah's coming...

0:36:47 > 0:36:49..and I have no idea yet

0:36:49 > 0:36:52quite what she's going to think.

0:36:52 > 0:36:54We talked about glamour and glitz,

0:36:54 > 0:36:56and lots of glitter...

0:36:56 > 0:36:59I like to think this is a bit more grown-up,

0:36:59 > 0:37:01but it's still all about flamingos.

0:37:03 > 0:37:06Before, this bog-standard chest was brown, broken

0:37:06 > 0:37:10and about to become burnable waste at the tip.

0:37:12 > 0:37:14Now, with a huge amount of TLC,

0:37:14 > 0:37:18Zoe's re-imagined it as a little glamourpuss of a dresser.

0:37:19 > 0:37:23It sports slender legs and all the runners, stops

0:37:23 > 0:37:26and dovetailing on the sumptuous, fabric-lined drawers

0:37:26 > 0:37:28have been carefully restored.

0:37:29 > 0:37:321950s-style handles have been added

0:37:32 > 0:37:34and an ornamental mirror crowns the top.

0:37:36 > 0:37:41Zoe's distinctive screen prints add an extra layer of designer luxury,

0:37:41 > 0:37:45placing it firmly at the high end of the market...

0:37:45 > 0:37:48which is exactly where Sarah wants it!

0:37:50 > 0:37:54- Hiya.- Hi, how you doing? - Good. How are you?- Really good.

0:38:01 > 0:38:03Oh, my word.

0:38:03 > 0:38:05So you mentioned flamingos...

0:38:05 > 0:38:07I had no idea it was going to be that exotic.

0:38:07 > 0:38:09It's SO cool!

0:38:09 > 0:38:12- I'm really glad you like it. - This is amazing.

0:38:12 > 0:38:15This is one piece that I've made for you that I've been a bit...

0:38:15 > 0:38:18I thought, "It's really out-there and it's really specific to me."

0:38:18 > 0:38:22It's all about, kind of, erm, growing up in Margate,

0:38:22 > 0:38:25going and visiting The Flamingo arcade.

0:38:25 > 0:38:27It is beautiful.

0:38:27 > 0:38:30The padding in the bottom of the drawers...

0:38:30 > 0:38:32You just want to put the silkiest things in there,

0:38:32 > 0:38:35you know, like, gloves or, you know, just...knickers. Just...

0:38:35 > 0:38:37It says underwear!

0:38:37 > 0:38:39This fabric, actually, is one of my most favourite

0:38:39 > 0:38:41vintage, kind of, finds.

0:38:41 > 0:38:43I knew it was going to be right for it.

0:38:44 > 0:38:46It's... It's sensational, it really is.

0:38:46 > 0:38:48Well, I'm really pleased you like it.

0:38:48 > 0:38:51It was one of those ones where I thought, "Ooh, love or hate?

0:38:51 > 0:38:53"Love or hate?"

0:38:53 > 0:38:54Well, I love it.

0:38:54 > 0:38:57No, I hate it. No, I love it,

0:38:57 > 0:39:01especially because there's even more Zoe magic.

0:39:02 > 0:39:04I just noticed the glitter in here.

0:39:04 > 0:39:07Yes, there is a bit of glitter. I did promise you some glitter.

0:39:07 > 0:39:09And I got this far and I thought,

0:39:09 > 0:39:12"Oh, there's no glitter in it! She'll kill me!"

0:39:14 > 0:39:16I might cry. I genuinely absolutely love it.

0:39:16 > 0:39:19It's, like, the transformation is huge.

0:39:19 > 0:39:22It smells nice as well!

0:39:22 > 0:39:25Oh, Sarah, not again!

0:39:25 > 0:39:27I'm tearing up myself, now.

0:39:27 > 0:39:30Quick, let's talk hard cash before we both lose it.

0:39:32 > 0:39:34Zoe came in on the £600 budget

0:39:34 > 0:39:37and, with her name attached to it, it should make some money.

0:39:38 > 0:39:40It is worth every penny.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43It is...a remarkable piece of furniture.

0:39:46 > 0:39:49It takes a little bit of a leap of faith

0:39:49 > 0:39:52to leave somebody with £600 and a really distressed chest of drawers,

0:39:52 > 0:39:55and expect to come back to something like that.

0:39:55 > 0:39:57Zoe has made that fantastic.

0:39:58 > 0:40:01I think she's happy with it. I think she wants one.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04And, yeah, I'm just looking forward to hearing who has it,

0:40:04 > 0:40:07and I hope they love it as much as I have loved making it.

0:40:10 > 0:40:13At the dump, Sean and Kevin gave Sarah the chest of drawers.

0:40:15 > 0:40:17As long as it goes to a good home, I'm happy with that.

0:40:17 > 0:40:20Sean had ideas for it, if not the inclination.

0:40:20 > 0:40:23I'd sand it down, put some new handles on, tidy it up

0:40:23 > 0:40:26and probably sell it at auction or something.

0:40:26 > 0:40:29But Sarah had Zoe in mind to help recreate it.

0:40:29 > 0:40:33Maybe some palm trees and some flamingos and things like that.

0:40:34 > 0:40:38It metamorphosed into a funky dressing table.

0:40:41 > 0:40:45And it was sold to Janet from Margate's Lombard Street Gallery.

0:40:45 > 0:40:49Janet has exhibited and sold Zoe's pieces before,

0:40:49 > 0:40:51and knows they have real appeal.

0:40:51 > 0:40:53It is fantastic.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56Oh, and beautifully lined with...

0:40:58 > 0:41:02..fabric to reflect the...the sort of flow of the flamingo design.

0:41:02 > 0:41:04Wonderful.

0:41:05 > 0:41:08Now Sarah's back in Stockport to meet up with Kevin.

0:41:09 > 0:41:13He's on his own today because best mate Sean couldn't make it.

0:41:13 > 0:41:15- Hiya.- Hiya.- Nice to see you again.

0:41:15 > 0:41:18So what will Kevin make of the revamped drawers?

0:41:18 > 0:41:21The little chest of drawers. Do you remember what we took from you?

0:41:21 > 0:41:24- Yeah, yeah... - That, kind of, two-drawer chest.

0:41:24 > 0:41:26It had some great potential,

0:41:26 > 0:41:30so we took it down to this amazing girl in Margate called Zoe.

0:41:30 > 0:41:32- Do you want to see what she's done with it?- Yeah.

0:41:34 > 0:41:35Oh, that looks well nice.

0:41:36 > 0:41:38- Does it look different?- Yeah!

0:41:38 > 0:41:41So, she has done a big transformation on it.

0:41:41 > 0:41:44The whole of the chest of drawers stayed the same,

0:41:44 > 0:41:47but she's replaced the legs and the handles to give it a new look.

0:41:47 > 0:41:49Yeah, it looks nice, that.

0:41:49 > 0:41:52Well, when we did up the table,

0:41:52 > 0:41:55- we also managed to sell it.- Right.

0:41:55 > 0:41:57So, I've got 100 quid here for you guys.

0:41:57 > 0:42:00It's all yours to spend on whatever you like,

0:42:00 > 0:42:02- so that's coming back to you. - Thank you.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04A pleasure.

0:42:04 > 0:42:06The chest of drawers originally belonged

0:42:06 > 0:42:08to Kevin's girlfriend's late mother

0:42:08 > 0:42:12and the money's going towards something to remember her by.

0:42:12 > 0:42:15For what it's worth, it's been made into something absolutely beautiful.

0:42:15 > 0:42:18And I hope she'd approve of what we have done to it

0:42:18 > 0:42:21because it really is stunning now, so I hope she would've approved.

0:42:21 > 0:42:22Yeah.

0:42:22 > 0:42:25It's ready good to see you again and thanks ever so much. OK?

0:42:25 > 0:42:26- See you.- Bye-bye.- Bye.

0:42:28 > 0:42:30Zoe's work came in at £600...

0:42:31 > 0:42:33..and it was sold for 700,

0:42:33 > 0:42:35making a profit of £100.

0:42:38 > 0:42:43Sarah saved three dumped items destined for eternal doom.

0:42:45 > 0:42:48The copper pipes are fabulously illuminating, darling!

0:42:50 > 0:42:52The wheely old sack barrow

0:42:52 > 0:42:54is a spanking new designer table.

0:42:55 > 0:42:58And the dowdy chest of drawers

0:42:58 > 0:43:00is a dishy babe of a dresser.

0:43:00 > 0:43:02Pats on the back all round, I'd say!

0:43:04 > 0:43:07So that's three great transformations on three items

0:43:07 > 0:43:09that have sold for a profit and have found new homes.

0:43:09 > 0:43:11Next time you're at the tip,

0:43:11 > 0:43:13I could be making money for nothing for you.
