0:00:03 > 0:00:05- Can I have a little rummage around in your rubbish?- Yeah.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10How do you make money for nothing?

0:00:10 > 0:00:11I love that.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15The answer could be hiding in the 30 million tonnes of

0:00:15 > 0:00:18household waste we throw out every year.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21It's so heavy, they don't make them like this any more. Look at that.

0:00:21 > 0:00:26That's why entrepreneur Sarah Moore wants to get her hands on things

0:00:26 > 0:00:28before they hit the skip.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34I'm a passionate maker, buyer and user of old stuff

0:00:34 > 0:00:37and I've turned that passion into a moneymaking business.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40I make new stuff out of old stuff and I sell it for a profit.

0:00:40 > 0:00:46And with some of the country's elite designers and makers...

0:00:46 > 0:00:47Say something nice about it.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50My juices are flowing in this one. They are going to be wow!

0:00:50 > 0:00:53She can transform her finds into desirable...

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Isn't that stunning?

0:00:56 > 0:00:57Valuable...

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Oh, wow!

0:00:59 > 0:01:02And, hopefully, saleable items.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03That is bonkers.

0:01:03 > 0:01:08If Sarah is successful then she can hand the profits back to the very

0:01:08 > 0:01:12people who had no idea there was cash to be made from their trash.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15We've got £350.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17No!

0:01:27 > 0:01:30Welcome to Walsall recycling centre.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34A nonstop hive of activity.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41With the nation becoming more and more aware of the benefits of

0:01:41 > 0:01:44regenerating unwanted possessions,

0:01:44 > 0:01:50one woman is on a mission to turn your trash into hard cash.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53I love turning a profit where others see trash.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Making old stuff that's drab into desirable and fab

0:01:56 > 0:01:58is just so satisfying.

0:01:59 > 0:02:04But before you make a beeline for your local tip, take note.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07Sarah's been given special permission to seek out two items

0:02:07 > 0:02:11that can be rejuvenated and sold on for a profit.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16And Brian, with his broken up sofa, has caught her eye.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20- Nice sofa.- It was a nice sofa.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24What's happened to it?

0:02:24 > 0:02:27We broke it up because it's not very good now

0:02:27 > 0:02:30- so we just got rid of it. - Have you got the bits, or not?

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Little bits in there, but they're broken.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35- Come on, let's see, I like the back of it.- We've jumped on it.- Have you?

0:02:35 > 0:02:38- Yes.- You boys have all the fun, don't you?- I know.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Let's have a look.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46All the rest of it's broken.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48- Have you got the arm bits? - Have you got the other bits?

0:02:48 > 0:02:50- It's in there somewhere. - Are those its legs?

0:02:50 > 0:02:55- Those are the legs.- I'm loving it more by the minute.

0:02:55 > 0:02:56So that goes on there.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Come on Sarah,

0:03:00 > 0:03:04you must be well used to the game of furniture jigsaw by now.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06Oh, yeah, that bit goes there.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10- Great.- All the cushions are in the back of me car.

0:03:10 > 0:03:11Brilliant, so you...

0:03:11 > 0:03:13That's 1970 that sofa.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Check out the expert eye. I'm impressed.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19- It's written all over it. It's got a date on it.- Oh, right.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Expert, you see.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22That's cheating.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Now I've got all those bits that you've smashed up do you think I can take them away,

0:03:26 > 0:03:30put them back together and see if I can make it back into a lovely sofa again?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33I don't know, because part of it's broken.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36- You could try.- I shall definitely be able to get that fixed.

0:03:36 > 0:03:37Fine.

0:03:37 > 0:03:42The question is, what will become of Brian's old sofa?

0:03:42 > 0:03:46I don't know to be honest, I don't know. It would be good to find out.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52I know what you're thinking, she's bonkers.

0:03:52 > 0:03:53Correct.

0:03:53 > 0:03:54But this is going to be brilliant.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57I know it's in pieces but it is going to look fantastic

0:03:57 > 0:04:00when it's finished. Trust me.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02Watch.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Oh, we will Sarah, we will.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10But who's Sarah picked to help her transform this item?

0:04:16 > 0:04:19Say hello to Josh and Oli, designer makers,

0:04:19 > 0:04:22business partners and best pals.

0:04:24 > 0:04:29These lads use natural and recycled materials to create bespoke,

0:04:29 > 0:04:31handcrafted and high-end furnishings.

0:04:35 > 0:04:39We've been friends for years, I don't know how long, but ages now.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42We teamed up and it's quite a nice combination of skills that we have.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45I think we've got a lot of ideas between us,

0:04:45 > 0:04:47a lot of fresh thinking and it just works together

0:04:47 > 0:04:49quite nicely as a team.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53The fact that we haven't fallen out completely and we've been working

0:04:53 > 0:04:56together this long kind of shows it's working.

0:04:56 > 0:04:57Yeah.

0:04:57 > 0:05:02Here's two young lads full of positivity and optimism.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06Hopefully Sarah and this old sofa won't put an end to all that.

0:05:14 > 0:05:18It's all me, me, me with Sarah, but for good reason.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22It's now time to find a project for herself.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25I would say if it's made out of chipboard I can't do much with it.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29And it doesn't take long for Barry to present Sarah

0:05:29 > 0:05:32with a toy from the good old days.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36What's in your bag then, throwing anything good out?

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Well, an old railway station.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41That does look cool.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43- Can I have a look at it? - Yes, you can.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45So this was yours, was it?

0:05:45 > 0:05:49Funnily enough, I was working in a toy shop.

0:05:49 > 0:05:53- Right.- In the late '50s.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56- Right.- And all through these years I've kept them,

0:05:56 > 0:05:58my children have played with them.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01- Yeah.- The grandchildren have played with them.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05It was a well-loved toy.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09But for the past few years it's been gathering dust in Barry's attic.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12So, age wise it looks kind of Art Deco, or...

0:06:12 > 0:06:14It is old, very.

0:06:14 > 0:06:20So it's the Trix Manyways station set made in England, number 22.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23Beautiful cast aluminium, it's lovely.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26So I definitely don't think that this can go into the metal.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30No, I would like to do some research on it and find out if it's

0:06:30 > 0:06:33collectable, if it's the kind of thing that people are still buying.

0:06:33 > 0:06:34It's lovely, look at that bit.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40That must be the middle of the roof somewhere I think, mustn't it?

0:06:40 > 0:06:42- Yes.- It's got such lovely styling, somebody'll want to buy this.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45Someone will have all the other bits. I love it.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51For Barry, the idea of Sarah breathing new life into a toy

0:06:51 > 0:06:55so close to his heart is one which he's clearly happy about.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58My whole family's played with them.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02They've enjoyed them. We've fixed them up together.

0:07:02 > 0:07:03It's so nice.

0:07:05 > 0:07:06How cool is this?

0:07:09 > 0:07:11I really don't know what I've found here,

0:07:11 > 0:07:14it looks like the kind of thing that might have been made

0:07:14 > 0:07:19in mass production in the '30s, but I love the styling on it.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23I am loving the aluminium and that it has such great colour on it.

0:07:23 > 0:07:26I'll have to have a really good think about this because this could

0:07:26 > 0:07:29go in all sorts of different directions.

0:07:29 > 0:07:30Quite cool though, isn't it?

0:07:31 > 0:07:33Very cool, Sarah.

0:07:35 > 0:07:40It's been a good day at the tip and Sarah has two very different items.

0:07:40 > 0:07:44Josh and Oli will be dealing with the broken up sofa

0:07:44 > 0:07:49and Sarah will get creative with the toy railway station set.

0:07:49 > 0:07:52Transforming today's eclectic selection of items is going to be

0:07:52 > 0:07:54just the challenge we love,

0:07:54 > 0:07:57but there is going to have to be some radical transformation

0:07:57 > 0:07:59if we're going to really bring the money home.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09This is Chichester in West Sussex.

0:08:12 > 0:08:16A vibrant town with a thriving music, film and arts scene.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23While it may be forward thinking,

0:08:23 > 0:08:27it's hard not to be impressed by the town's illustrious history.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30Its medieval architecture is striking.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35This dynamic link between the past and present inspires designers

0:08:35 > 0:08:39Josh and Oli to create contemporary bespoke furniture

0:08:39 > 0:08:41with traditional materials.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46And if that happens to involve a blowtorch,

0:08:46 > 0:08:48they're a couple of happy chappies.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52I wonder what they'll make of the '70s sofa Sarah's

0:08:52 > 0:08:53wheeling their way.

0:08:53 > 0:08:57We love what Sarah does because we are into restoring old items

0:08:57 > 0:09:02and keeping things going. So always interested to see what she's going to bring us.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04We are kind of on the same page in that respect, aren't we?

0:09:04 > 0:09:09- Yeah.- We're looking forward to seeing what she's going to bring us today.

0:09:09 > 0:09:10Hello? Hiya.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12Hello.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14Come and see my flat pack.

0:09:14 > 0:09:15OK. Wow.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17It's not supposed to be a flat pack.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21- Cool.- Yeah.- What is it?

0:09:21 > 0:09:25- Sofa.- 1970s, beautiful styling, lovely lines.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28- Shall we get it in?- Yeah.

0:09:28 > 0:09:32I think it's fair to say first impressions were underwhelming.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35It might be easier to get rid of the cushions because I think whatever we

0:09:35 > 0:09:37do they are not going to be part of the plan, are they?

0:09:40 > 0:09:42It has been smashed up.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46- Yeah.- I thought that it has got '70s style

0:09:46 > 0:09:49oozing out of every broken pore.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52I think, yeah, '70s are back in but for me, like,

0:09:52 > 0:09:54the kind of lacquered mahogany look

0:09:54 > 0:09:57isn't really that fresh at the moment.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59So maybe we do something with the frame, like,

0:09:59 > 0:10:02we love to scorch things so why not try that?

0:10:02 > 0:10:05- Just go at it with a blowtorch. - Burn baby, burn.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07Yeah, let's just burn this thing and forget about it.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10But no, if we scorch this entire frame,

0:10:10 > 0:10:13so what you see here will be a really nice matte black

0:10:13 > 0:10:15with a lot of texture going on.

0:10:15 > 0:10:20And then the idea is to put some really contrasting,

0:10:20 > 0:10:23maybe maple or sycamore slats on it.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26And just turn it into like a really clean, crisp,

0:10:26 > 0:10:28stylish '70s looking seat.

0:10:28 > 0:10:32How much is it going to cost to turn this into cool, crisp, high-end luxury living?

0:10:32 > 0:10:34- Lots!- Lots?- Yeah.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38Well, it's going to be a fiddly one, isn't it?

0:10:38 > 0:10:41There's a lot of things that we've seen already that could cause us trouble.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44- I'm reckoning about 700. - Yeah, I think so.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46How does that sound?

0:10:46 > 0:10:49You're going to burn it and charge me 700 quid?

0:10:49 > 0:10:51- Pretty much, yeah.- Well, if you think you can pull it off,

0:10:51 > 0:10:54- if I can come back here...- It will look good in the end, yeah.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56..and make profit.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59- Best of luck.- Thank you.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05I'm getting a scorched sofa and a 700 quid bill.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07Let's hope that's the right decision.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11We're quite excited about this one actually.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13There's a lot of work to be done.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15I think it could look really cool in the end.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18Yeah, after we've put our touch on it, I think it will be a nice,

0:11:18 > 0:11:20sleek looking seat.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22Done a bit of scorching, put a bit of fresh wood on there.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25Bish bash bosh, done.

0:11:27 > 0:11:31Josh and Oli have a whopping £700 to spend on this sofa.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34Let's hope that budget won't go up in smoke.

0:11:41 > 0:11:44Sarah's now travelled home after dropping off the sofa.

0:11:46 > 0:11:47Come on.

0:11:47 > 0:11:52Once Bramble's been for walkies, Sarah can get started on her item.

0:11:56 > 0:12:00She picked out the Art Deco style train station set.

0:12:02 > 0:12:03It's definitely cool.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06That deco styling is so strong in these pieces.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Altogether now, finally.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11It's got bags of style.

0:12:11 > 0:12:16Sarah had hoped she could sell the well-loved station set as is

0:12:16 > 0:12:19to a collector but it's too scuffed and scratched.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21So she's had a bright idea.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28Sarah's going to make five desk lights.

0:12:28 > 0:12:32She's already had Perspex, which will make up the light housing,

0:12:32 > 0:12:36made to order and she'll combine them with pieces from the train set

0:12:36 > 0:12:40and her LEDs to make lovely little lamps.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43So these are the bits back from the fabricators and these are the

0:12:43 > 0:12:46windows, roof and side sections.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49I'm hoping they all fit together with our train set to make

0:12:49 > 0:12:50a lovely little desk light.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55But it's not looking very impressive at the moment.

0:12:58 > 0:13:02Each Perspex light box is made up of eight separate pieces,

0:13:02 > 0:13:07which Sarah will have the oh so fiddly job of gluing together.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09There is one set's worth there.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12I have got some two-pack glue...

0:13:14 > 0:13:16..with quite a long working time

0:13:16 > 0:13:19so I don't have to hurry too much with it.

0:13:19 > 0:13:23You just mix these equal quantities together,

0:13:23 > 0:13:24give it a stir

0:13:24 > 0:13:28and then it makes this really strong bond when it's all mixed up.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32Let's hope the measurement Sarah supplied to the Perspex cutter

0:13:32 > 0:13:35were right. If not, disaster.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40That's a great fit.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43I never doubted her for a second.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47That's beginning to look quite cool, isn't it?

0:13:47 > 0:13:49Here comes the hard bit though.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53I'm not quite sure how to do this.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57She's now got to glue the roof and side sections together.

0:13:58 > 0:14:00Those fix together.

0:14:00 > 0:14:01And then that goes on there.

0:14:03 > 0:14:06I get the feeling this is all a little bit more complicated

0:14:06 > 0:14:08than Sarah imagined.

0:14:09 > 0:14:13This requires precision, dexterity, patience.

0:14:13 > 0:14:15I don't have any of those, it's a nightmare.

0:14:19 > 0:14:20This is so fiddly.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26Next time I go to make something can you remind me to go the simplest

0:14:26 > 0:14:29route, doesn't have to be surprising.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Just make a few pounds, that's all I'm after.

0:14:32 > 0:14:35Come on now, Sarah, stay positive.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38This is easy, this is a walk in the park, this is a great thing to do.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40That's more like it.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44Uh-oh.

0:14:44 > 0:14:49Sarah has spent £70 on the Perspex and LEDs.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51Let's hope it's money well spent

0:14:51 > 0:14:55and she actually manages to finish all five lights.

0:14:58 > 0:15:02Not far away, Josh and Oli are getting started on the sofa.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09All right, shall we start with getting these old straps off, then?

0:15:09 > 0:15:10Yeah, OK.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16The lads made their reputation creating bespoke furniture.

0:15:16 > 0:15:20Transforming the likes of this is a brave new world for them.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24I've never done anything like this before.

0:15:25 > 0:15:30Once we've worked out how the slats are going to go across

0:15:30 > 0:15:34and probably once we've worked out what we are going to do

0:15:34 > 0:15:35with the legs,

0:15:35 > 0:15:39I think they're really the two most difficult parts.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40The rest of it should be all right.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44So, aside from the seat part and the legs part,

0:15:44 > 0:15:46everything else is fine.

0:15:46 > 0:15:48Hmm... That's comforting.

0:15:51 > 0:15:55The sofa frame was constructed using the traditional mortise and tenon

0:15:55 > 0:15:59method, a technique which has been used for thousands of years.

0:15:59 > 0:16:03But the mortise holes and tenon tongues are badly damaged.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06It's all feeling a little bit rickety,

0:16:06 > 0:16:09so we've just got to try and work out the best way of getting it back

0:16:09 > 0:16:13to a state where you can sit on it again.

0:16:16 > 0:16:20The only option is to repair the joints.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23I was a bit cheeky about these boys earlier,

0:16:23 > 0:16:26but their expertise is beyond reproach.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29The traditional craftsmanship they use to mend the joints

0:16:29 > 0:16:32is second to none.

0:16:32 > 0:16:35It's nice when you get to the end of it and it's kind of looking fresh

0:16:35 > 0:16:38again and you've just got a nice match

0:16:38 > 0:16:41and a nice filling there. So then we can put the tenon back in

0:16:41 > 0:16:44and glue it just as it was.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47Should be as strong as it was brand-new, then.

0:16:50 > 0:16:54When the repaired tenon is slotted back into the mended mortise,

0:16:54 > 0:16:55it's a perfect fit.

0:16:57 > 0:17:01The lads use strap clamps to hold the sofa in position

0:17:01 > 0:17:03while the glue dries.

0:17:08 > 0:17:10I don't think we're going to make a sofa any more.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13It's just a big, old sort of bass guitar now, so...

0:17:13 > 0:17:15Scrap that idea.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17Right then, lads. Let's get a groove on.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23Nice!

0:17:23 > 0:17:25Let's slow it down.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31And back up for the big finish.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38Yeah, man!

0:17:41 > 0:17:44But it's back to business and there's some blowtorching to be done.

0:17:49 > 0:17:53A charred finish is a difficult technique to master,

0:17:53 > 0:17:57but, if they get it right, it will give the sofa a striking look.

0:17:57 > 0:18:01It just gives a nice, like, texture to the wood.

0:18:01 > 0:18:02It also preserves the wood as well.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04It's like a natural way of doing that.

0:18:04 > 0:18:08It just brings it back to a nice, even, matte black finish.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12The lads are taking safety precautions against fumes

0:18:12 > 0:18:14released from the old wood stain.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19Although Josh could do with pulling up his trousers.

0:18:20 > 0:18:24Fingers crossed this gives the sofa the sleek and stylish look they're

0:18:24 > 0:18:28after. If they get this wrong, it could warp the wood.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35Elsewhere in the Sussex countryside,

0:18:35 > 0:18:39Sarah's putting the finishing touches to her desk lamps.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45Well, that's five lights completed.

0:18:45 > 0:18:48They're quite crisp and clean for me.

0:18:49 > 0:18:54This toy train station set provided Sarah with a bright idea...

0:18:56 > 0:18:59Which she has brought stunningly to life.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06The addition of the toy figures pinched from her daughter's toy box

0:19:06 > 0:19:10lend the platforms scale and prospective and add to the fun.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17The LED lights are battery-powered and remote controlled

0:19:17 > 0:19:19so there's no electrical wiring.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26I can see these being snapped up by a train enthusiast

0:19:26 > 0:19:28who is still a kid at heart.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32Well, they're a little bit play-worn and definitely quirky,

0:19:32 > 0:19:35but I think somebody will give these a good home.

0:19:37 > 0:19:41Three generations of Barry's family had played with the toy train set,

0:19:41 > 0:19:43so he was happy Sarah saved it.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46The whole family's played with them.

0:19:46 > 0:19:50They've enjoyed them, we've fixed them up together.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52It's so nice.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55Then it was Sarah's turn to have a play.

0:20:00 > 0:20:01Makeover's complete,

0:20:01 > 0:20:06all five desk lights were snapped up by Mark from Keswick Collectables,

0:20:06 > 0:20:09an antique shop in the Lake District.

0:20:09 > 0:20:11Oh, wow!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15And now Sarah's on her way to Barry's home

0:20:15 > 0:20:19to show him what became of the toy he was about to sling in the skip.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24- Hi, Barry.- Hello.- How are you doing? - Nice to meet you. - Very nice to see you.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28- So, is this the house where the train set was in the attic? - Yes.- Lovely.

0:20:28 > 0:20:32Well, it was a lovely piece, but it had been played with by quite a few children.

0:20:32 > 0:20:34So was that your children or grandchildren?

0:20:34 > 0:20:37Yes, grandchildren... All of them, they've all played with it at some time.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40Well, it was my job to take it on

0:20:40 > 0:20:44and it was a lovely thing and I made it into... Are you ready?

0:20:44 > 0:20:48- Yes. - It has been turned into desk lights.

0:20:49 > 0:20:52- Smashing, yeah. - Put it together on a little block

0:20:52 > 0:20:55and turned it into five individual desk lights.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

0:20:58 > 0:21:00- Really?- Yes. - Because it is such a worry.

0:21:00 > 0:21:02You take somebody's stuff and do something to it.

0:21:02 > 0:21:03So you approve, then?

0:21:03 > 0:21:08Yes. Now it's not scrapped or buried, it's of use at last.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11They were lovely to work on and somebody has bought them,

0:21:11 > 0:21:14a collectables shop, so I've got a little bit of money

0:21:14 > 0:21:16to give back to you for your old train set.

0:21:16 > 0:21:19So I've got £50 for you.

0:21:19 > 0:21:21So, what might you do with £50?

0:21:21 > 0:21:24Well, could I please give it to Children In Need?

0:21:24 > 0:21:28That... If you'd like to do that, that would be lovely.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31- Please.- Yes.- Very nice. So that's a lot of people it's done good,

0:21:31 > 0:21:33Plus it's...

0:21:33 > 0:21:37The station itself, the old station is put to good use.

0:21:37 > 0:21:38- I'm happy.- Really?

0:21:38 > 0:21:40Yes. Well, that's really generous of you.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43There are five little lights that will go off into five new houses.

0:21:43 > 0:21:45Your station is going on another journey.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48- Brilliant.- It was really good to see you again.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51- Thank you ever so much.- Thank you. - Bye-bye.- Bye-bye.

0:21:56 > 0:22:00Well, that was really lovely to see Barry's reaction to his old train set

0:22:00 > 0:22:03because he and his family had obviously had so much fun using it

0:22:03 > 0:22:05and I really enjoyed making it into something else

0:22:05 > 0:22:07and I think he was really enthusiastic

0:22:07 > 0:22:09about the fact it was going on another journey.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15Sarah paid 70 pounds for materials.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18They sold for 120,

0:22:18 > 0:22:22making a profit of £50, which is now on its way to charity.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31I'm really looking forward to seeing how Josh and Oli

0:22:31 > 0:22:33have got on with the '70s sofa.

0:22:33 > 0:22:34And I'm not the only one.

0:22:36 > 0:22:37No, not them.

0:22:38 > 0:22:39Her.

0:22:42 > 0:22:44I left the boys with a massive challenge,

0:22:44 > 0:22:46a completely smashed up sofa,

0:22:46 > 0:22:48and I can't wait to see what they've done with it.

0:22:51 > 0:22:55It was beat up and broken down, but with Josh and Oli's help,

0:22:55 > 0:22:58Sarah hoped it could be brought back to life.

0:23:03 > 0:23:07Wow! It's been born again like a phoenix from the flames.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12The scorched wood has been sanded down

0:23:12 > 0:23:15to create a smooth matt-black finish.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22This contrasts beautifully with the light American maple timber

0:23:22 > 0:23:24used for the seat.

0:23:25 > 0:23:29Craftsmanship on display here is second to none.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33It's unique, bold and super stylish.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41- Hello?- Oh, hello.

0:23:41 > 0:23:42Oh, lads!

0:23:43 > 0:23:45We're just having a little coffee break.

0:23:45 > 0:23:46- Hey!- Hello.

0:23:48 > 0:23:49Wow!

0:23:51 > 0:23:52How cool is that?

0:23:52 > 0:23:54Let's see it without the rug on it.

0:23:54 > 0:23:55Oh!

0:23:57 > 0:23:59Work of art. Did you scorch it?

0:23:59 > 0:24:02- Yeah.- Yeah, we scorched the frame. - It's genius.

0:24:02 > 0:24:03I don't know what to say.

0:24:03 > 0:24:07It was so badly broken and beaten up beforehand.

0:24:08 > 0:24:09It's beautiful.

0:24:09 > 0:24:11- Is it comfortable?- Yeah.

0:24:11 > 0:24:12Try it out.

0:24:14 > 0:24:15Oh, yeah.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18It's lovely. Isn't it?

0:24:18 > 0:24:20Oh, the finish you've got on this...

0:24:20 > 0:24:22- Nice and smooth, isn't it? - Yeah, great contrast.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25It's... It's fantastic.

0:24:25 > 0:24:27I mean, the actual frame itself is really nice

0:24:27 > 0:24:30and there's loads of curves and it's really well put together.

0:24:30 > 0:24:35So I think once we actually had it reassembled and fixed up...

0:24:35 > 0:24:37Yeah, it's a really nice shape, isn't it?

0:24:37 > 0:24:39And then just sorting out the two colours,

0:24:39 > 0:24:41I think just works really well.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44But this looks sleek and designer

0:24:44 > 0:24:48and the contrast between the dark and the pale is just brilliant.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50It's such a lovely piece.

0:24:50 > 0:24:51Cool.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54Sarah is overjoyed.

0:24:55 > 0:25:01The boys have done a bang-up job and it's bang on their £700 budget.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04Are we calling it a sofa? Bench? What are you calling it?

0:25:04 > 0:25:05- What have you been referring to it as?- Indoor bench.

0:25:05 > 0:25:08I kind of see it in a nice kind of conservatory, or something.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10It's not your sofa, but it's like a...

0:25:10 > 0:25:13It's a place where you might sit and read a book or something.

0:25:13 > 0:25:17I think we're getting all of the 1970s essence that was, you know,

0:25:17 > 0:25:20part of its charm, but with a bang up-to-date makeover.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23It's a very stylish thing now.

0:25:23 > 0:25:25- Real credit to you. - Thank you very much.

0:25:25 > 0:25:27I'm impressed.

0:25:27 > 0:25:30And, more importantly, so is the boss.

0:25:30 > 0:25:33I was a bit worried about it when

0:25:33 > 0:25:36it turned up, but I think

0:25:36 > 0:25:39we've managed to get something quite nice out of it.

0:25:39 > 0:25:40Seeing it now,

0:25:41 > 0:25:43it's like a brand-new sofa, isn't it?

0:25:43 > 0:25:44Indoor bench, Josh.

0:25:44 > 0:25:45It's an indoor bench.

0:25:50 > 0:25:55Sarah spotted the sofa just as Brian was about to chuck it in the skip.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58All the rest of it's broken.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01He was flummoxed as to what Sarah would do with it.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03I don't know, to be honest. I don't know.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05It would be good to find out.

0:26:05 > 0:26:07Don't worry, Brian, you're about to.

0:26:11 > 0:26:14Sarah has made her way to Brian's house,

0:26:14 > 0:26:17where, hopefully, he'll be as impressed as we are.

0:26:21 > 0:26:22- Oh, hello!- Hi, Brian.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24Hi, there. How are you doing?

0:26:24 > 0:26:25I'm fine, thank you.

0:26:25 > 0:26:27Now, I said that I'd be back in touch

0:26:27 > 0:26:29if there was something I could do with your sofa.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32Now, you had had a good time smashing it up, hadn't you?

0:26:32 > 0:26:33I did, yes.

0:26:33 > 0:26:36I'd got to get it loaded on the trailer, so, yeah, it was smashed up.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38Yeah, it made quite a few people laugh

0:26:38 > 0:26:42that we had taken something that had been through that process.

0:26:42 > 0:26:44So, did you think we'd rebuild it?

0:26:44 > 0:26:46What did you think we were going to do with it?

0:26:46 > 0:26:48Not with the way it had been smashed up. No, I didn't.

0:26:48 > 0:26:50Well, I've got some pictures to show you

0:26:50 > 0:26:54and brace yourself because, I took it to some lovely young lads

0:26:54 > 0:26:55and they set fire to it.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58- Oh, right!- OK?- Yes!

0:26:58 > 0:26:59But it ended up like this.

0:26:59 > 0:27:01- Oh, wow!- So, this is the bit they burned.

0:27:01 > 0:27:03They scorched the frame to make it black

0:27:03 > 0:27:06and it's got a beautiful texture to it and a lovely finish.

0:27:06 > 0:27:09- It's lovely. - Do you think it's all right?

0:27:09 > 0:27:12- I do, yes.- Have you ever seen anything like that before?

0:27:12 > 0:27:16No, not really, no, but it's good. I like it. Yeah.

0:27:16 > 0:27:18- It's really nice, yes. - I'm pleased you like it.

0:27:18 > 0:27:19Well, it's still for sale.

0:27:19 > 0:27:23It's out there now and I'm sure we're going to get a great buyer for it.

0:27:23 > 0:27:25So, as soon as I have money, I'll give you a call

0:27:25 > 0:27:27and send it over to you.

0:27:27 > 0:27:30- Great.- I really liked seeing what the boys had done to it.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32- Yeah.- To see it in the flesh, it's a lovely thing,

0:27:32 > 0:27:34so I really appreciate you letting us have it.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36Great, that's lovely Thank you very much.

0:27:36 > 0:27:40- Thank you ever so much. Nice to catch up with you. Bye-bye. - And you. Bye now.

0:27:42 > 0:27:46Josh and Oli charged £700 for the makeover,

0:27:46 > 0:27:49but, at present, the seat remains unsold.

0:27:49 > 0:27:51So, for now, that remains a loss.

0:27:51 > 0:27:55But I've no doubt Brian will be seeing a little profit

0:27:55 > 0:27:57in his pocket sometime soon.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04Sarah saved two unwanted items from the skip

0:28:05 > 0:28:08and now rather than being chucked in the landfill,

0:28:08 > 0:28:11they've been given a new lease of life.

0:28:13 > 0:28:16Well, making money for nothing is definitely satisfying,

0:28:16 > 0:28:18but saving stuff and seeing it transformed, well,

0:28:18 > 0:28:20I think that might be even better.
