0:00:03 > 0:00:05What are you throwing away?

0:00:06 > 0:00:10How do you make money for nothing?

0:00:10 > 0:00:14- I like the look of that.- The answer could be hiding in over 20 million

0:00:14 > 0:00:18tonnes of household waste, thrown out by us every year.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22Hmm, what else are you throwing away? Anything exciting?

0:00:22 > 0:00:26That's why entrepreneur Sarah Moore wants to get her hands on things

0:00:26 > 0:00:28before they hit the skip.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Finding, transforming and selling stuff we throw away is an obsession,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36and it's that obsession that I've turned into a moneymaking business.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40I make new stuff out of the old stuff, and I sell it for a profit!

0:00:41 > 0:00:46And, with some of the country's elite designers and makers...

0:00:46 > 0:00:48You've got a bucket of fun for me!

0:00:48 > 0:00:49- It's a big one!- Is it?

0:00:49 > 0:00:53..she can transform her finds into desirable...

0:00:53 > 0:00:55They are amazing!

0:00:55 > 0:00:57..valuable...

0:00:57 > 0:00:58I've never seen anything like them!

0:00:58 > 0:01:02..and, hopefully, saleable items.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04- That's a lovely job, thank you. - Thank you.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06If Sarah is successful,

0:01:06 > 0:01:11then she can hand the profits back to the very people who had no idea

0:01:11 > 0:01:13there was cash to be made from their trash.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16- £165 here.- No!

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Deep in the heart of Surrey

0:01:26 > 0:01:30is the home of the Whitley Community Recycling Centre.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Here, all things unwanted get chucked,

0:01:33 > 0:01:37and that is getting a certain someone very excited.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Isn't it fantastic? The sun's out, the gate's open

0:01:39 > 0:01:43and they're flooding in here with potentially fantastic finds!

0:01:44 > 0:01:49Finds that could make a spot of money for nothing.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Obviously that's not one of them!

0:01:51 > 0:01:55But before you head along to your local recycling centre in search of

0:01:55 > 0:02:00your fortune, be aware that Sarah's been given special permission to

0:02:00 > 0:02:04hunt for three items which can be rejuvenated, reinvented and revived

0:02:04 > 0:02:07to be sold on for a profit.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10You get everything here, look. Kitchen sink.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13I know we're here to clean up, but taking that old thing

0:02:13 > 0:02:16might just be pushing it a bit!

0:02:16 > 0:02:20Just as well Kim has arrived with her boot full of booty,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23but is there enough inspiration here for Sarah?

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Ooh, look at your light. I love your enamel light.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Is that what it is? Is it a light?

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Yeah, so that bit I don't think goes with it, does it?

0:02:30 > 0:02:34No, that's... I haven't got a clue what that is!

0:02:34 > 0:02:38- But... - I think these, these are just...

0:02:38 > 0:02:40All the factories used to have this kind of lighting.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Because I thought it might make a nice lamp shade,

0:02:42 > 0:02:46but I didn't know how to do it, so I just thought, "Well..."

0:02:46 > 0:02:47It is quite heavy. It's not, like...

0:02:47 > 0:02:50If you buy a modern one of these, they're really light, whereas

0:02:50 > 0:02:52this one is beautiful, heavy-duty...

0:02:52 > 0:02:54You need a strong ceiling to suspend that!

0:02:54 > 0:02:56- Yeah, or a bit of metal work... - Oh, I see.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57..I think, to hang it off.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00But out of the stuff that you're throwing away,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02my magpie instincts are drawn to this!

0:03:02 > 0:03:04- Well, you're welcome to it. - Would that be all right?- Of course!

0:03:04 > 0:03:07- Of course, you're very welcome. - Brilliant. Well, thank you for that.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09- My pleasure.- That's going to be a little project.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12- Lovely to meet you.- And you too. I'm glad it's gone to a good home!

0:03:12 > 0:03:14- I'll be in touch. - You could do something with it.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Yeah, any more of those, come back soon!

0:03:16 > 0:03:18- Thank you so much! - OK, bye!- Bye-bye!

0:03:18 > 0:03:23Today's first find is an enamel lampshade.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27Does Kim think there could be an illuminating use for it?

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I hope she makes a lamp out of it, because it just...

0:03:29 > 0:03:32It looks like that's what it should be.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34I thought about putting a plant in it or something but, no,

0:03:34 > 0:03:37I think it should be a lamp. I'd love to see that. I'd love to.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41Well, look at that. A cracking, old, vintage enamel shade.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43I am always a sucker for enamelware

0:03:43 > 0:03:47and this lovely old light shade has definitely seen better days!

0:03:47 > 0:03:49But it must be worth saving.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52We're going to have to think of something really clever to make a

0:03:52 > 0:03:53bit of money out of this one.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56And Sarah knows just the person who can help.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01If you think metal, think Bex Simon.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06Bex is one of the country's leading artist blacksmiths,

0:04:06 > 0:04:09and, together with husband Dave,

0:04:09 > 0:04:11this pair have certainly proved their mettle -

0:04:11 > 0:04:14producing high-end interior furniture,

0:04:14 > 0:04:16and bespoke metalwork commissions.

0:04:16 > 0:04:22I love designing, so I like the most bizarre commissions that we get,

0:04:22 > 0:04:26because it's a real sort of challenge of your design skills.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31I think making things, you can get lost in here.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34The blacksmith's workshop is a bit like a cave.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37You know, it's your safe place.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41It's homely, it's weird because it's dark and its dingy.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43It's a bit like hell!

0:04:43 > 0:04:48- No, sorry! - It's dark and dingy now...

0:04:48 > 0:04:51Will Sarah's latest loot have the power to light it up?

0:04:55 > 0:04:57With one item safely stowed...

0:04:59 > 0:05:02..the hunt's on for two more dumped diamonds!

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Coloured bathrooms are going to come back, mark my words.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08We'll be clambering to gather up the avocado

0:05:08 > 0:05:10and cram it back into our bathrooms!

0:05:12 > 0:05:16- Wait and see.- Well there's retro, and there's ridiculous!

0:05:17 > 0:05:19Wow, look at that, look at that!

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Look at what? Oh, it looks like a sideboard.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25Could Nick's cast-off be a winner for Sarah?

0:05:25 > 0:05:28- Hi.- Hi, there.- How are you? - I'm fine, thanks.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30I'm Sarah. Hi, there. Who are you?

0:05:30 > 0:05:32- Hello, nice to meet you. Nick.- Hello, Nick.

0:05:32 > 0:05:33I think it's amazing.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36Would it be all right to maybe have a closer look at it...?

0:05:36 > 0:05:38- Yeah, sure it is. - ..and see if there's something

0:05:38 > 0:05:39to be done with it.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41It turns out that this sideboard actually belonged to Nick's

0:05:41 > 0:05:46father-in-law, and it'd just been taking up space in Nick's garage

0:05:46 > 0:05:47for the past five years.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Hello! Hello! Lucky day!

0:05:51 > 0:05:53If you say so, Sarah!

0:05:53 > 0:05:57Oh, fantastic drawers, too!

0:05:57 > 0:06:00Brilliant. Do you remember it being used?

0:06:00 > 0:06:02It was probably under a pile of stuff

0:06:02 > 0:06:05- last time I saw it being used. - Yeah?- Yeah.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08- He was a bit of a hoarder... - I like him as well!

0:06:08 > 0:06:10I like all of your family!

0:06:10 > 0:06:13That is the most fantastic thing to turn up at a tip.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15I've never had a sideboard before and...

0:06:15 > 0:06:17Well, stick around, I'll see what else I can bring you!

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Well, that's amazing. What I might have to do is to trouble you.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Is there any chance you could help me carry it down here

0:06:22 > 0:06:24- out of the way before somebody puts it in the wrong bin? - Yes, let's get going.

0:06:24 > 0:06:28Well done, Sarah. Not only have you nabbed Nick's super retro sideboard,

0:06:28 > 0:06:31you've got him to carry it for you, too!

0:06:31 > 0:06:34Being Nick's father-in-law's, what will the rest of the family think?

0:06:34 > 0:06:38My wife will love to see it. She'll tell me, "I told you so."

0:06:38 > 0:06:41I was going to sledgehammer it. And, yep, she will be saying...

0:06:41 > 0:06:43"Told you!"

0:06:43 > 0:06:46I love a sideboard. It's everything you could hope for.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49You're going to have to trust me. This is going to look absolutely

0:06:49 > 0:06:52fabulous, and I know just who to take it to.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55Say hello to Daniel Heath.

0:06:58 > 0:07:03Daniel's a designer who can turn his hand to just about anything.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06A wallpaper and textile designer by trade,

0:07:06 > 0:07:11he produces everything from bespoke furniture to high-end furnishings.

0:07:11 > 0:07:16I started off as a printmaker, doing textiles and wallpaper.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20But now I really enjoy working with wood and working with slate.

0:07:20 > 0:07:24I like the challenge of working with new materials

0:07:24 > 0:07:25or salvaged materials.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27No two days are the same for Daniel,

0:07:27 > 0:07:31as he loves to be taken out of his comfort zone.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35I really enjoy it when people come to me with interesting projects,

0:07:35 > 0:07:38and strange materials to try and print onto

0:07:38 > 0:07:41because I like the challenge.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43It's a good thing Daniel enjoys a challenge,

0:07:43 > 0:07:48because Sarah's newly acquired sideboard is on its way...

0:07:51 > 0:07:54Sarah has just one item left to find...

0:07:56 > 0:07:59..an item which she can take home and tackle herself.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04Just catching up on the news!

0:08:04 > 0:08:08There's no time for slacking, Sarah, you might miss potential gems,

0:08:08 > 0:08:11like this one emerging from the back of Dave's car.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Oh, now that looks like you've had it for a while.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17- Hi, there.- Hi. Yes. It's got some sentimental value, but it's...

0:08:17 > 0:08:19- Really?- Where have they come from?

0:08:19 > 0:08:21They came from my grandparents' house.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23This one did, and this one as well.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27- Aren't they sweet? - Yeah, but they're just too far shot.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31- Oh, I see that one's gone on the seat.- That one, yeah.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33But they are... It's just...

0:08:33 > 0:08:35How old do you think they are, then, 1920s, something like that?

0:08:35 > 0:08:37'20s, '30s?

0:08:37 > 0:08:40I think these are probably the type of things that are repairable,

0:08:40 > 0:08:43- so there is potential...- Right.

0:08:43 > 0:08:44- ..for chairs like this...- Yep.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47..if you've got the time and the inclination to get them mended and

0:08:47 > 0:08:49- that sort of thing.- Well, exactly.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52So I would really like the chance to see if they can be refurbished,

0:08:52 > 0:08:55- or, you know, brought back to life. - Feel free, go ahead.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Let me take them away, that's just brilliant.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00- Thank you so much for stopping. - OK!

0:09:00 > 0:09:02So, Dave's chairs are a winner,

0:09:02 > 0:09:05though he does have some strong ideas about their future...

0:09:07 > 0:09:09I don't particularly want them

0:09:09 > 0:09:14upgraded in terms of losing their integrity...

0:09:15 > 0:09:18..you know, with flowers or steamships.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22Hmm, it's almost as if Dave already knows about Sarah's vast collection

0:09:22 > 0:09:24of floral offcuts.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27These type of chairs turn up at the tip all the time,

0:09:27 > 0:09:30and they've gone in all the same places that they normally do.

0:09:30 > 0:09:33They're looking worn and tired, but people still love these.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36Vintage collectors, and people who like to furnish their houses

0:09:36 > 0:09:40in a 1930s, '40s style, they can't get enough of them!

0:09:40 > 0:09:43But these are going to have a real makeover if they're going to make

0:09:43 > 0:09:46any money at all.

0:09:47 > 0:09:52Sarah's managed to salvage three items from certain doom.

0:09:52 > 0:09:56Kim's green enamel lampshade will be worked on by Bex.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00Nick's retro sideboard will be dandied by Daniel.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03And Sarah will show Dave's chairs some love.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Would you believe what turned up here today?

0:10:06 > 0:10:10Fantastic finds, great people, heaps of work to be done,

0:10:10 > 0:10:13and I think money to be made.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19Deep in the heart of the Surrey countryside is the workshop

0:10:19 > 0:10:24of blacksmith Bex, who, along with husband Dave,

0:10:24 > 0:10:28creates bespoke commission pieces from scratch.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31That is until Sarah arrives,

0:10:31 > 0:10:34then they have to work with the old rubbish she brings along.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38Well, my lampshade is looking tip-fresh - it's filthy!

0:10:38 > 0:10:39It's going to need really smartening up,

0:10:39 > 0:10:42and I'm hoping Bex and Dave are just the people to do it.

0:10:42 > 0:10:47Do you reckon it'll be an easy job, or a difficult job?

0:10:47 > 0:10:53Um, I think this one will probably be a tricky one.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56A tricky one? OK, we're going to have a tricky one.

0:10:57 > 0:11:00Tricky... That might be a bit of an understatement.

0:11:00 > 0:11:04- How are you? Are you well? - How are you doing?- Good to see you.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06- Oh, you're all wet and cold!- It's freezing. Hey, what do you reckon?

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Oh, look! It's really nice.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12- Great colour. It's really nice. - It's really cool, isn't it?

0:11:12 > 0:11:15In my mind, since I found this at the tip,

0:11:15 > 0:11:18I was thinking beautiful, smart, crisp.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20But the more I look at it now, it's absolutely filthy,

0:11:20 > 0:11:22and it's dinged all over.

0:11:22 > 0:11:23I thought it still had potential.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26Yeah, well, it just adds character, doesn't it?

0:11:26 > 0:11:28Oh, it's really nice.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30It's really nice, have a feel.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33Lovely! Is it a lampshade?

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Can't take him anywhere!

0:11:39 > 0:11:44Yeah, we could do sort of an industrial-style base...

0:11:44 > 0:11:46So you're thinking, like, floor lamp?

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Yeah, but, like, straight bar, you know, solid base.

0:11:49 > 0:11:50- Maybe, perhaps?- I get you.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53Sounds amazing, and will you need to have a weight...?

0:11:53 > 0:11:56Some sort of weight to the end of it, to counterbalance it?

0:11:56 > 0:11:58Well, yeah, it could do.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02Just, you know, adjust height, pivot, or something.

0:12:02 > 0:12:07This design is top-heavy so the base needs to be solid and Sarah might

0:12:07 > 0:12:11just have the answer, a previously salvaged lorry jack

0:12:11 > 0:12:14just waiting to be part of the right project.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16That looks perfect, doesn't it?

0:12:16 > 0:12:20You've got all the lovely industrialness of it.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22So, I see that at the bottom, there's a lamp here,

0:12:22 > 0:12:25a bit of wiring. Do you have a gut feel for the price

0:12:25 > 0:12:28- of the whole thing? - Probably...

0:12:28 > 0:12:32- 285.- That's good. I think that gives us a good leeway.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34I mean, it'd be great to make 100 quid on that

0:12:34 > 0:12:37and you're going to make a beautiful, big lamp.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40That's sounds fantastic. I cannot wait.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43It's going to light up my life.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46So it's going to be a lorry jack light thingy.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49A light? Of course it was going to be a light.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Now, this is a lovely project but the success will be

0:12:51 > 0:12:54whether it's simple, stylish and they stick to the budget.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57I like the idea of this one.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01I'm quite... I think it's going to look really nice for some reason.

0:13:01 > 0:13:06You always leave those annoying fiddly bits to me, so...

0:13:06 > 0:13:10Yeah! But you're good at those fiddly bits.

0:13:10 > 0:13:11I don't like fiddly bits!

0:13:13 > 0:13:19With Dave doing all the fiddly bits, it's £285 to design and create

0:13:19 > 0:13:21the unique counterbalanced light.

0:13:26 > 0:13:30Walthamstow in East London is a veritable hotbed of designers

0:13:30 > 0:13:35and makers, lots of whom are based at the Blackhorse Workshop,

0:13:35 > 0:13:39which is where Daniel is awaiting the arrival of Sarah.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41It will be interesting to see what she's got for me this time.

0:13:41 > 0:13:45It's been a real mixed bag in the past so obviously these things are

0:13:45 > 0:13:48coming from the tip, they're going to be thrown away anyway,

0:13:48 > 0:13:51so it gives me a bit more of a licence to be creative,

0:13:51 > 0:13:54try out some new ideas and see how they work out.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59It's fantastic to be back in East London

0:13:59 > 0:14:02but this time with a beautiful '70s sideboard.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04It's such a nostalgic piece of furniture

0:14:04 > 0:14:07and I hope that Daniel Heath will be pleased to take it under his wing

0:14:07 > 0:14:11and add some of his own distinctive style to it.

0:14:11 > 0:14:15Nostalgic, yes. Moneymaker? Hmm...

0:14:15 > 0:14:18- What do you think? - Wow! OK, that's...

0:14:19 > 0:14:22- That's a great sideboard. - It is good, isn't it?

0:14:22 > 0:14:24It's been knocked about a bit.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26Did you drag it here behind the truck?

0:14:26 > 0:14:28- It came to me like that. - Right, OK.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30I think it's been in the garage, you know,

0:14:30 > 0:14:32all that kind of stuff when people don't like it

0:14:32 > 0:14:35- so they leave it in the garage for a bit.- It's been well used.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38- Well-used, but should we get it up in the studio to have a proper look? - Yes, let's have a go.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40It's not too heavy.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44That wasn't so bad. Daniel didn't seem daunted at all.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46In fact, I think he's been charmed by it.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51- So, do you like it? - Yeah, I love it.

0:14:51 > 0:14:53It's a great piece. It's the sort of piece that I would have in my own

0:14:53 > 0:14:56home, so it's really nice to see it.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59Let's have a look inside. The hinges seem all right.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01They're in OK condition, aren't they?

0:15:01 > 0:15:04Yeah, hopefully it's transformable without too much work

0:15:04 > 0:15:06- on the structure of it. - Yeah, it looks good.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10And it hasn't been outside so it's not been, like, destroyed

0:15:10 > 0:15:13- by weather so that's always good. - It's a bonus, isn't it?

0:15:13 > 0:15:17- Yeah, always a bonus.- Because if you find it at the tip, you never know what you're going to get.

0:15:17 > 0:15:20OK, Daniel, we know you like it, but what's the plan?

0:15:21 > 0:15:24We could do something with printing, get some imagery on,

0:15:24 > 0:15:28layer up some different colours, perhaps.

0:15:28 > 0:15:29Time to get the sander out, I think,

0:15:29 > 0:15:32and just take back and see what's there underneath.

0:15:32 > 0:15:34And is it... Do you have in mind what you could create

0:15:34 > 0:15:36or a budget that we could put on it

0:15:36 > 0:15:38so that there's some kind of ballpark

0:15:38 > 0:15:40for making a little money on it?

0:15:40 > 0:15:45I think that we could probably do something on this for £500.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47- Thank you. Cheers, Sarah. - Enjoy doing it.

0:15:47 > 0:15:48I cannot wait to see how it turns out.

0:15:50 > 0:15:51- Cheers, Sarah.- Bye.

0:15:54 > 0:15:56Well, it sounds like Daniel Heath is definitely a sideboard man.

0:15:56 > 0:15:59I cannot wait to see what kind of pattern and colour he manages to get

0:15:59 > 0:16:03onto that thing and how saleable it's going to be at the end.

0:16:04 > 0:16:09I'm really happy about this one because it's a great piece.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12There's a lot of surface areas, there's a lot of things

0:16:12 > 0:16:16I can do with it and it's a bit beaten up as well,

0:16:16 > 0:16:20which I think is good because it's obviously going to look...

0:16:20 > 0:16:22well, hopefully a lot better when I've finished with it

0:16:22 > 0:16:25than it does now, so, yeah, can't wait to get started.

0:16:28 > 0:16:33Daniel's costs will be £500 to completely reimagine the sideboard

0:16:33 > 0:16:36with layered hand-printed designs.

0:16:36 > 0:16:39But I have to say I'm struggling to imagine what it'll look like.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41Hmm.

0:16:43 > 0:16:48With Daniel working on the retro sideboard and Becks and Dave on the

0:16:48 > 0:16:49old enamel lampshade,

0:16:49 > 0:16:54Sarah's back in West Sussex with a bit of a foreboding fixer-upper...

0:16:56 > 0:16:59These saggy-seated, dodgy-legged chairs.

0:16:59 > 0:17:01Rather you than me, Sarah.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05Well, both these old chairs have their faults,

0:17:05 > 0:17:09this one is in all sorts of trouble around the legs and this one...

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Well, there's a lot of work to be done to this one

0:17:12 > 0:17:14but think it might turn a profit.

0:17:14 > 0:17:19So I think I'm going to put this one aside and concentrate on this one.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22I think the first thing to do is really try and clean this

0:17:22 > 0:17:25chair up and find out exactly what needs to be done to restore it.

0:17:25 > 0:17:30So I'm going to cover my bench and get down to work.

0:17:30 > 0:17:34This Lloyd Loom chair was the brainchild of Marshall Burns Lloyd,

0:17:34 > 0:17:39an American who in 1917 invented a rather swanky loom

0:17:39 > 0:17:43that transformed craft paper into a woven fabric.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46Pretty much everybody who sees these will call them Lloyd Loom because

0:17:46 > 0:17:49they were the major manufacturer of this type of chair, and you can see

0:17:49 > 0:17:53it's not actually made out of fibre, but a coiled paper.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55Not many of them survive in really good condition

0:17:55 > 0:17:58so it's not surprising this looks like this.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03But it's got wooden legs at the front and then these metal ones

0:18:03 > 0:18:05at the back, so it's still fairly solid.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07But I think I just love this old colour.

0:18:07 > 0:18:11This kind of teal is quite on trend at the moment, so I'm going to leave

0:18:11 > 0:18:14it just the way it is and see if I can get this to look any cleaner

0:18:14 > 0:18:17and, hopefully, I'll add a little decoration to make it saleable.

0:18:19 > 0:18:24That teal colour might be on trend but I'm not so sure about the rust.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27Well, this rust is definitely not going to come off with a cloth so

0:18:27 > 0:18:30I've got some wire wool, which is quite a good way

0:18:30 > 0:18:32to get round these corners and clean up something

0:18:32 > 0:18:34that is not a flat surface.

0:18:34 > 0:18:37A bit of elbow grease. Maybe some wax.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39I think that's going to be fine.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43Well, the frame has come up really well.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45I think I've overcome the seat problem.

0:18:45 > 0:18:49I've made a little hardboard pad, put some wadding over the top of it

0:18:49 > 0:18:52and that is going to pop neatly in there

0:18:52 > 0:18:56and be a really lovely, comfortable seat for this old chair.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58But I'm still a bit worried about the arms.

0:18:58 > 0:18:59They're too dirty to make it saleable

0:18:59 > 0:19:01and I want this thing to pack a punch.

0:19:01 > 0:19:03I want to get as much money as possible out of it,

0:19:03 > 0:19:07so I think I've got some old pieces of fabric here.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11I've had them for ages and they're sort of tattoo-esque.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14I know that sounds funny but it's like a rose tattoo...

0:19:14 > 0:19:15That's the way I'm seeing it.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18And I'm just going to lay these on the arms,

0:19:18 > 0:19:22stitch them on and that way that's going to look dirty-pretty-vintage

0:19:22 > 0:19:25and I think when they're in place I'm going to stitch

0:19:25 > 0:19:27some really simple... They'll have to be simple.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29..motifs across the back.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32I'm thinking an anchor, maybe a swallow, perhaps a rose.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Old-fashioned, sailor-style tattoos, so that when you look at it,

0:19:35 > 0:19:38recognisable as a tattoo.

0:19:38 > 0:19:39Somebody's going to like it, aren't they?

0:19:39 > 0:19:43Sarah's not sounding too confident about this one

0:19:43 > 0:19:47but she has spent just £15 by using offcuts of materials

0:19:47 > 0:19:51and wood and she's hoping that the arms and back of the chair

0:19:51 > 0:19:55will look great with their new embroidery and tattoos.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Back in Surrey, Becks and Dave are getting to grips with that enamel

0:20:04 > 0:20:09lampshade and already they're thinking of changing Sarah's plan

0:20:09 > 0:20:11for the lorry jack base.

0:20:11 > 0:20:13Do you reckon this will work?

0:20:14 > 0:20:17I'm just thinking of shapes and what would look...

0:20:19 > 0:20:22You know, what would look nice.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24With only the lampshade to work with,

0:20:24 > 0:20:27this project was always going to need something special

0:20:27 > 0:20:30to elevate it and currently it's looking as though

0:20:30 > 0:20:32it might not be the lorry jack.

0:20:32 > 0:20:36I'm just thinking of simplifying the base, you know,

0:20:36 > 0:20:40something that would work really nicely with it,

0:20:40 > 0:20:44just from what we've got, so...

0:20:44 > 0:20:49Look, Dave, we could put, like, a strip down here,

0:20:49 > 0:20:53a couple of rivets, so it's got that industrial look,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- fill it with sand... - Yeah, I think that looks good.

0:20:58 > 0:20:59Yeah.

0:21:00 > 0:21:04- Quite nice, isn't it? - I think we could use that.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07Yeah, if we bring this shape in a bit more as well.

0:21:09 > 0:21:12Cut a nice, clean, straight edge

0:21:12 > 0:21:16and then just bring it back over on itself.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18Yeah, I think that would be better, don't you?

0:21:18 > 0:21:21Yeah, I think so. Yeah.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24I think that works.

0:21:24 > 0:21:25Are you sure, Dave?

0:21:27 > 0:21:28Are we not missing something here?

0:21:28 > 0:21:33We've decided not to use the jack as the base.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36I don't know, I had, sort of, second thoughts about it.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38I got all excited at the time but then, you know,

0:21:38 > 0:21:42sort of re-evaluated the whole sort of design.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48So we've gone for something different.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51At the moment it looks a bit like a bin...

0:21:53 > 0:21:56..but when we've finished it will kind of look like

0:21:56 > 0:22:00a nice, big, solid base, I think, but we'll see.

0:22:00 > 0:22:05So, it seems a base like a bin beats a lorry jack.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07But how's the top of the lamp going to work?

0:22:07 > 0:22:10It's going to have a pivoting point

0:22:10 > 0:22:13and we'll make the shaded side heavier

0:22:13 > 0:22:16and then we'll have different weights

0:22:16 > 0:22:18that'll bring it up and down.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21I don't know, I've never made one before so, you know,

0:22:21 > 0:22:23you learn on the job.

0:22:23 > 0:22:28So it's going to be a bit of trial and error, but, you know,

0:22:28 > 0:22:31what possibly could go wrong? Oh, no! What...

0:22:31 > 0:22:34- Yeah, what possibly... - What could possibly go wrong?

0:22:34 > 0:22:37- What possibly could go...? - What could...?

0:22:37 > 0:22:38What could possibly go wrong?

0:22:38 > 0:22:42What could possibly go wrong?!

0:22:42 > 0:22:45See, it's already going wrong.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47Uh-oh!

0:22:47 > 0:22:51I've got a bad feeling in my water about this and, at my age,

0:22:51 > 0:22:55that's not good. I do hope you know what you're doing, Bex.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04Back in Walthamstow, Daniel's getting his teeth into

0:23:04 > 0:23:09that sideboard, along with assistant Luke, and, yes, this is a big job.

0:23:12 > 0:23:17I'm trying to work out whether there's some amount of solid wood

0:23:17 > 0:23:19in the construction. There might be board in the middle

0:23:19 > 0:23:21and then veneers.

0:23:21 > 0:23:26But we're just trying to strip them down as much as possible

0:23:26 > 0:23:29so that we can paint them and fill them.

0:23:29 > 0:23:32The plan is to paint the sideboard once it's sanded

0:23:32 > 0:23:36and Daniel has a paint supplier with green credentials -

0:23:36 > 0:23:39the Forest Recycling Project, who specialise

0:23:39 > 0:23:43in selling second-hand paint, and Fitzroy's on hand to help.

0:23:43 > 0:23:46- Hello. How are you doing? - All right.- Nice to see you.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48OK. Are you after some paint?

0:23:48 > 0:23:50Yeah, I'm after some paint for a project.

0:23:50 > 0:23:52I'm just going to paint some furniture, so we need...

0:23:52 > 0:23:54I think we need satinwood.

0:23:54 > 0:23:56OK, great. Any idea of which colours you're after?

0:23:56 > 0:23:58- Going to go for green, I think. - For green, OK.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00We've got a selection over there

0:24:00 > 0:24:03and we've got a few more over here and a few more down here as well.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06I would say start over there and then see what you find.

0:24:06 > 0:24:08- Brilliant.- If you need any help, give us a shout.

0:24:08 > 0:24:09Great, thanks very much.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12Watch out if you're using second-hand paint.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14A bad smell means the chemical components

0:24:14 > 0:24:17which prevent hardening have gone off.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20This paint won't give an even coverage.

0:24:20 > 0:24:23And low-cost paint has more water, so, once open,

0:24:23 > 0:24:26won't last as long as more expensive brands.

0:24:26 > 0:24:30This is the right colour. This is the colour that I want.

0:24:30 > 0:24:35Let's have a look and see if it's... Yeah, satinwood. OK.

0:24:35 > 0:24:38For wood and metal. I think that will do it.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40Great. OK, brilliant.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43Having found just the right colour of paint,

0:24:43 > 0:24:45Laura's been given the task of painting

0:24:45 > 0:24:49the freshly prepared sideboard carcass,

0:24:49 > 0:24:52whilst Daniel concentrates on screen printing the top.

0:24:52 > 0:24:56The good thing is if it doesn't print really well, it shouldn't move

0:24:56 > 0:24:59because we've got it set up on a jig, but if it doesn't...

0:24:59 > 0:25:01If there's imperfections in the print,

0:25:01 > 0:25:04we can always line up the screen and print it again.

0:25:04 > 0:25:10Because it's wood and it's pretty solid, it shouldn't change shape.

0:25:13 > 0:25:14OK.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17So, moment of truth.

0:25:17 > 0:25:20Ready?

0:25:20 > 0:25:23This is where we see whether I've got lots of work to do or not.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26HE GASPS

0:25:26 > 0:25:29- Whoa!- Do you think that means he likes it?

0:25:29 > 0:25:32That is a result.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34That's the result that I wanted.

0:25:36 > 0:25:38Nice.

0:25:42 > 0:25:44With the sideboard well under way,

0:25:44 > 0:25:48it's time to return to West Sussex, where Sarah is putting the finishing

0:25:48 > 0:25:51touches to the Lloyd Loom chair.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56Well, I'm just using this last scrap of Union Jack here

0:25:56 > 0:25:58to try and pull this whole thing together

0:25:58 > 0:26:01and I think the tattooing kind of stuff is...

0:26:01 > 0:26:02Is pretty much working.

0:26:02 > 0:26:05I want to do a little bit more to it, but I'm just going to stitch

0:26:05 > 0:26:09this in place, just layer up all that old-fashioned,

0:26:09 > 0:26:13ragged old detail to go for my dirty-pretty-vintage look.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15When Sarah saved this Lloyd Loom chair

0:26:15 > 0:26:19from the tip it was feeling very sorry for itself.

0:26:19 > 0:26:23Now, it's definitely vintage and pretty

0:26:23 > 0:26:28with unique embroidered sailor-themed tattoos

0:26:28 > 0:26:30and a newly upholstered seat

0:26:30 > 0:26:34complementing the original Lloyd Loom style.

0:26:36 > 0:26:39But will anyone fall in love with it enough to buy it?

0:26:41 > 0:26:43I think the chair has come out quite well.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46It's interesting, it's a little bit quirky

0:26:46 > 0:26:48and you certainly won't find another one.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51I think that's a very safe bet, Sarah.

0:26:51 > 0:26:54Losing no time, Sarah's photographing the chair

0:26:54 > 0:26:59in all it's glory in order to upload pictures onto social media,

0:26:59 > 0:27:03and all before you can say, "Hello, sailor."

0:27:03 > 0:27:06Back in Whitley, Dave was dumping some chairs.

0:27:06 > 0:27:10- Aren't they sweet? - Yeah, but they're just too far shot.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13Although he hadn't completely given up on them.

0:27:13 > 0:27:17I don't particularly want them upgraded in terms of losing their

0:27:17 > 0:27:22integrity, you know, with flowers or steamships.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24He'll be happy there's not a steamship in sight

0:27:24 > 0:27:29and the flowers, well, I reckon they look smashing.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32The online pictures did the trick and the chair was bought by

0:27:32 > 0:27:36a collectables emporium in Clacton run by owner Rick.

0:27:36 > 0:27:41We sell medals, coins, militaria, antiques,

0:27:41 > 0:27:44and this thing, being an individual sort of piece,

0:27:44 > 0:27:47I think will fit in nicely with our shop.

0:27:47 > 0:27:49It's what our customers are looking for.

0:27:49 > 0:27:52Don't get too comfy, Rick. You've got to sell that.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55Sarah is in Whitley to show Dave what became

0:27:55 > 0:28:00of his old chair and to hand over the profit.

0:28:03 > 0:28:06- Hi, Dave.- Hello, Sarah. - How are you doing?- Nice to see you.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09Now, I met you at the tip when you were throwing away

0:28:09 > 0:28:11a couple of chairs that I think have been in your family,

0:28:11 > 0:28:14- in your wife's family, for a while. - Yeah, my wife's family, yes.

0:28:14 > 0:28:17And one thing that I really remember about us talking

0:28:17 > 0:28:21was you mentioned the fact, "Just don't cover it in flowers,"

0:28:21 > 0:28:23which I think you meant in jest,

0:28:23 > 0:28:26but I've got some pictures to show you of what I did with it.

0:28:26 > 0:28:31Brace yourself because there might be the odd flower.

0:28:31 > 0:28:32Here is your chair.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35Oh, yes. Oh, it's really lovely.

0:28:35 > 0:28:39I actually used some tattooing as an inspiration.

0:28:39 > 0:28:42I was trying to get a step away from flowers but a few crept in,

0:28:42 > 0:28:46so I thought I'd use that to give it a distinctive look.

0:28:46 > 0:28:49The good news is that somebody really liked it.

0:28:49 > 0:28:53In fact, it's gone off to a collectables shop in Clacton.

0:28:53 > 0:28:55- Right.- And I don't know if this is a bit of a surprise

0:28:55 > 0:28:58but I've actually got £135.

0:28:58 > 0:29:00- I wasn't expecting that. - That's for you.- Crazy.

0:29:00 > 0:29:02Thank you very much.

0:29:02 > 0:29:05I have to put you on the spot and ask you,

0:29:05 > 0:29:07what might you do with £135?

0:29:07 > 0:29:11Well, one of my daughters works for a charity called Porchlight...

0:29:11 > 0:29:14- OK.- ..in Kent, and they work with homeless people

0:29:14 > 0:29:17and vulnerable people so I'm going to give it to them.

0:29:17 > 0:29:19Oh, well, that's fantastic.

0:29:19 > 0:29:22That makes all those hours spent stitching seem even more worthwhile.

0:29:22 > 0:29:24Well, thank you so much and really lovely to catch up with you.

0:29:24 > 0:29:26- Bye-bye.- And you. Thanks.

0:29:30 > 0:29:31SHE EXHALES

0:29:31 > 0:29:34Well, I'm so glad that went well because I was a little bit nervous

0:29:34 > 0:29:36that Dave wouldn't like all those flowers

0:29:36 > 0:29:39but I think he might have been a bit more impressed with the tattoos.

0:29:39 > 0:29:41He certainly liked the end result.

0:29:42 > 0:29:49Sarah spent just £15 on materials updating the old Lloyd Loom chair

0:29:49 > 0:29:52and she was able to sell it for 150,

0:29:52 > 0:29:57which meant £135 of profit for Dave.

0:29:59 > 0:30:03Back in tranquil Surrey, in the workshop of Becks and Dave.

0:30:03 > 0:30:06We left them in the midst of a design conundrum.

0:30:07 > 0:30:11They were working on a floor lamp, incorporating the old enamel lampshade.

0:30:14 > 0:30:17Let's hope Sarah is a fan of the end result.

0:30:17 > 0:30:20I think this one has been quite a struggle for us.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25There's been an awful lot of head scratching.

0:30:25 > 0:30:28Well, I've come back to collect my battered enamel lampshade

0:30:28 > 0:30:31and hope that Becks and Dave have turned it from utility

0:30:31 > 0:30:34into something truly sensational.

0:30:35 > 0:30:37Anticipation.

0:30:37 > 0:30:39- She'd better like it. - She'd better like it!

0:30:43 > 0:30:45When Sarah found the old enamel lampshade,

0:30:45 > 0:30:48its future was not looking so bright.

0:30:50 > 0:30:53By utilising additional scrap metal,

0:30:53 > 0:30:56Becks and Dave have created a counterbalanced floor lamp

0:30:56 > 0:30:59with serious industrial elegance.

0:30:59 > 0:31:02The base now has a very solid foundation.

0:31:02 > 0:31:05The chosen flex has a natural linen covering.

0:31:05 > 0:31:09Eyelets have been hand-forged to hold it in place.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13And the counterbalancing weight is supported by a handmade cage.

0:31:15 > 0:31:16Time to get the boss in.

0:31:16 > 0:31:18Becks, Dave.

0:31:18 > 0:31:21- Hi!- Hello. Oh, my goodness me!

0:31:23 > 0:31:24It's enormous!

0:31:25 > 0:31:30- It is!- Oh, my goodness, guys, it's fantastic.

0:31:31 > 0:31:33Is that cord?

0:31:33 > 0:31:34Yeah, it's...

0:31:36 > 0:31:37It's quite a...

0:31:37 > 0:31:39Oh! I love it.

0:31:39 > 0:31:40Very, very exciting.

0:31:41 > 0:31:43Guys, it's amazing.

0:31:43 > 0:31:45Do you like it?

0:31:45 > 0:31:47I love it. How's the domestic harmony?

0:31:49 > 0:31:52- It's been touch and go at times, hasn't it?- Yeah. Completely.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55It's like a weight off a clock, or something,

0:31:55 > 0:31:57what have you done in there?

0:31:57 > 0:32:00It's just a great big lump of steel we found.

0:32:00 > 0:32:02What, just hanging around in the yard?

0:32:02 > 0:32:04And does it move up?

0:32:04 > 0:32:07Yeah, so we've got that.

0:32:07 > 0:32:10- Yeah.- And then it'll...alter.- Alter.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14And then like that.

0:32:15 > 0:32:17So that's...

0:32:17 > 0:32:19Oh! It is heavy.

0:32:19 > 0:32:20It's...

0:32:20 > 0:32:23I think it's one of

0:32:23 > 0:32:27the most beautiful pieces of design I've seen in ages.

0:32:27 > 0:32:29I love it. And this is beautiful.

0:32:29 > 0:32:31So, can you take the lamp off?

0:32:31 > 0:32:34- Yeah, it slides off. - You hold that end.

0:32:34 > 0:32:36- OK. Is it hot?- It's balanced.

0:32:36 > 0:32:38Yeah, OK.

0:32:38 > 0:32:40- OK.- So I do that as well?

0:32:41 > 0:32:42OK. And then it's got the bulb.

0:32:42 > 0:32:45- Yeah.- So that'll just come off.

0:32:46 > 0:32:50The original budget for this job was set at £285.

0:32:50 > 0:32:55Despite the work proving to be far more complex than they anticipated,

0:32:55 > 0:32:57much to Becks and Dave's credit,

0:32:57 > 0:33:00they're sticking to the original agreed price.

0:33:00 > 0:33:02There's a lot of good karma coming your way because

0:33:02 > 0:33:05I think you've created something really special.

0:33:05 > 0:33:08- Great. Well, I hope you can sell it for lots.- Yeah!

0:33:09 > 0:33:12So do I, Dave. So do I!

0:33:12 > 0:33:13I'm completely in love.

0:33:13 > 0:33:15Thanks.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18See you soon. I won't bring you any more cheap lampshades.

0:33:18 > 0:33:20- All right.- Nice to see you. See you soon.

0:33:20 > 0:33:22- See you later.- See you.

0:33:23 > 0:33:25Well done, guys.

0:33:26 > 0:33:28Well, I've never seen anything like that before.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31They have totally over delivered on the design, on the style.

0:33:31 > 0:33:34Altogether, that lamp is a designer gem.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37- It does look good. - It does.- Phew!

0:33:37 > 0:33:39- It has come together.- It has. - It looks great.

0:33:39 > 0:33:43- We only saw it together a few minutes ago so that was lucky.- Yeah!

0:33:46 > 0:33:50When Sarah caught up with Kim at the tip in Whitley,

0:33:50 > 0:33:51Oh, look at your light!

0:33:51 > 0:33:54..a shiny enamelled lampshade caught her eye.

0:33:54 > 0:33:56I thought it might make a nice lampshade

0:33:56 > 0:33:57but I didn't know how to do it.

0:33:57 > 0:34:01With Kim unsure, Sarah was happy to take it off her hands.

0:34:01 > 0:34:03My magpie instincts are drawn to this.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05Well, you're welcome to it.

0:34:05 > 0:34:06- Would that be all right?- Of course.

0:34:08 > 0:34:11Once Becks and Dave had worked their magic on the floor lamp,

0:34:11 > 0:34:16it was soon on its way to a new home in Fowey, Cornwall, run by Nick.

0:34:17 > 0:34:19Yeah, I've fallen in love with it already, really.

0:34:19 > 0:34:21It's beautifully industrial.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23I love the sort of blacksmithy feel to it.

0:34:24 > 0:34:27It's the sort of thing that fits entirely well with our shop,

0:34:27 > 0:34:28so I'm delighted with it

0:34:28 > 0:34:30and can't see any problem shifting it.

0:34:32 > 0:34:36Sarah's in Godalming to show Kim what became of her old lampshade

0:34:36 > 0:34:38and to hand over the profit.

0:34:43 > 0:34:45- Hi, Kim.- Hello. - Hello, how are you doing?

0:34:45 > 0:34:46I'm very well, how are you?

0:34:46 > 0:34:48Yes, very well, very well.

0:34:48 > 0:34:49- Good. - Nice to see you not at the tip.

0:34:49 > 0:34:50Yes, for once.

0:34:50 > 0:34:53You had heaps of stuff that you were clearing out, weren't you?

0:34:53 > 0:34:55I spent so much time there, you wouldn't believe it.

0:34:55 > 0:34:58Just so much time, masses and masses of stuff.

0:34:58 > 0:35:00It was a lovely thing, actually.

0:35:00 > 0:35:02It was a good, chunky, old lampshade.

0:35:02 > 0:35:05So did you wonder what we might do with it?

0:35:05 > 0:35:09Yes, I was very interested to know what you are going to do with it, fascinated.

0:35:09 > 0:35:13I took to a lovely blacksmith's who turned it into

0:35:13 > 0:35:16a beautiful light and here's some pictures for you to have a look at.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19Oh, my goodness. That's stunning!

0:35:19 > 0:35:20A floor lamp.

0:35:21 > 0:35:23Aren't people clever?

0:35:23 > 0:35:24Absolutely superb.

0:35:24 > 0:35:27I have to say it's a very clever piece of design.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29- I'd like it.- Really? - Can I have it back?

0:35:29 > 0:35:32Well, you can, but you'll have to go a long way,

0:35:32 > 0:35:35In fact you're going to have to go all the way to Cornwall to buy it.

0:35:35 > 0:35:37- Goodness, right, OK.- Because it's been snapped up by a shop down there

0:35:37 > 0:35:40- and that means I've actually got some profit to share with you.- Ooh!

0:35:40 > 0:35:43In fact, I have £115 for you.

0:35:43 > 0:35:45Good grief. Oh, thank you very much!

0:35:45 > 0:35:46Marvellous.

0:35:46 > 0:35:48Wow! That's a lot of money.

0:35:48 > 0:35:51I have to ask the question, what might you do with that?

0:35:51 > 0:35:55I think we'll give it to a charity, to a nurse's charity, probably.

0:35:55 > 0:35:57I think that where we found it,

0:35:57 > 0:36:00it had a connection to a nursing family so I'd like it to go there.

0:36:00 > 0:36:02I'm so pleased that I was there

0:36:02 > 0:36:03on the day that you were throwing that out.

0:36:03 > 0:36:05It was a lovely thing to start with.

0:36:05 > 0:36:08Yes, I'm so pleased that it's been developed into something lovely

0:36:08 > 0:36:09and not just gone to waste.

0:36:09 > 0:36:10That's fantastic.

0:36:10 > 0:36:12Thank you so much for letting us have it.

0:36:12 > 0:36:13Pleasure, absolute pleasure.

0:36:13 > 0:36:15Thank you very much indeed.

0:36:15 > 0:36:17- Great to catch up. Bye-bye.- Goodbye.

0:36:21 > 0:36:24Well, I'm so pleased that Kim was a fan of our heavy metal lighting.

0:36:24 > 0:36:26In fact, she even wanted to own it herself

0:36:26 > 0:36:28and that is the ultimate accolade.

0:36:31 > 0:36:35Sarah made light work of producing a profit from the old lampshade.

0:36:35 > 0:36:41Becks and Dave charged £285 and Sarah managed to sell it for 400,

0:36:41 > 0:36:45which left £115 profit for Kim.

0:36:55 > 0:36:59Returning now to Walthamstow and the Blackhorse Workshop,

0:36:59 > 0:37:02Sarah is eager to discover what Daniel has managed to do

0:37:02 > 0:37:04with the old sideboard.

0:37:06 > 0:37:08Well, if there's one piece of furniture

0:37:08 > 0:37:11I've always wanted to find in a tip, it has to be a sideboard.

0:37:11 > 0:37:14Ours is looking a little bit tired but after Dan's finished with it,

0:37:14 > 0:37:16I'm sure it's going to be looking amazing.

0:37:16 > 0:37:19I'm really, really happy with this piece.

0:37:20 > 0:37:22We were working really, really late last night

0:37:22 > 0:37:26to get it to this but I know that Sarah's going to like it

0:37:26 > 0:37:28and I can't wait for her to arrive

0:37:28 > 0:37:31and do the reveal, really.

0:37:31 > 0:37:34When Sarah salvaged this '70s sideboard,

0:37:34 > 0:37:37it was dowdy and distressed.

0:37:38 > 0:37:41Daniel and his team have sanded it back,

0:37:41 > 0:37:44removing the age-old scratches and scrapes.

0:37:45 > 0:37:47He's given it a splash of colour

0:37:47 > 0:37:49and he's covered each flat surface

0:37:49 > 0:37:52with a uniquely designed screen print,

0:37:52 > 0:37:56bringing the old sideboard bang up-to-date.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04- Hi!- Hello, Sarah. How are you doing?

0:38:04 > 0:38:07- What do you think? - Dan, it's amazing.

0:38:07 > 0:38:09Thank you.

0:38:09 > 0:38:12It's been a real...challenge

0:38:12 > 0:38:17because there's so many different, kind of, elements to it but...

0:38:17 > 0:38:22- But do you like it? - I absolutely love it, actually.

0:38:22 > 0:38:23I'm really, really pleased with it.

0:38:23 > 0:38:26It's a nice piece because there's a lot of different surface on it

0:38:26 > 0:38:28that you can cover in pattern

0:38:28 > 0:38:34and we've kept the colours fairly limited to the green and the black,

0:38:34 > 0:38:37brought out the woodgrain and, yeah,

0:38:37 > 0:38:39it's really working, I think.

0:38:39 > 0:38:41You've managed to get a good finish on that wood

0:38:41 > 0:38:44and that must have been tricky because it wasn't in great nick.

0:38:44 > 0:38:46It was pretty scratched, yeah.

0:38:46 > 0:38:48We sanded it about as much as we could

0:38:48 > 0:38:50because it is a veneer on the top surface,

0:38:50 > 0:38:54so we did have to be quite careful not to take it back too much

0:38:54 > 0:38:56but, yeah, it's come up nicely.

0:38:56 > 0:38:58- Talk me through the budget.- Well,...

0:38:59 > 0:39:02..we didn't actually spend a lot.

0:39:02 > 0:39:04The main expense was time.

0:39:04 > 0:39:06- Right.- It was a bit of a labour of love

0:39:06 > 0:39:10but because we used the resources that we have here already,

0:39:10 > 0:39:13Yeah, we were able to bring it in on budget.

0:39:13 > 0:39:16So, 500 quid for that is fantastic.

0:39:16 > 0:39:19Thank you so much, I really couldn't be more pleased.

0:39:19 > 0:39:21I'll be back in touch to tell you what kind of money we make

0:39:21 > 0:39:23because I think that one's got a lot of potential.

0:39:23 > 0:39:26Cheers.

0:39:26 > 0:39:28I really like the piece and, you know,

0:39:28 > 0:39:30hopefully, my taste is reasonable.

0:39:31 > 0:39:34So, yeah, absolutely overjoyed.

0:39:36 > 0:39:39Well, Dan has taken that sideboard from retro and really unloved

0:39:39 > 0:39:42into cool, collectable, and commercial.

0:39:44 > 0:39:46Wow, look at that, look at that.

0:39:46 > 0:39:48When Sarah noticed Nick in Whitley,

0:39:48 > 0:39:51he had a boot full of furniture not quite to his taste.

0:39:51 > 0:39:54- Not everybody's cup of tea, though, is it?- No, not mine.

0:39:56 > 0:39:59The sideboard had belonged to Nick's father-in-law

0:39:59 > 0:40:02who was a man after Sarah's own heart.

0:40:03 > 0:40:05He was a bit of a hoarder.

0:40:05 > 0:40:08I like him, as well. I like all of your family.

0:40:08 > 0:40:10Daniel relished the potential

0:40:10 > 0:40:12to fill all those flat services with print.

0:40:14 > 0:40:17Before Sarah had a chance to sell it,

0:40:17 > 0:40:20Daniel had already put it up online on the site Instagram

0:40:20 > 0:40:23and it was Lee and his girlfriend Helen

0:40:23 > 0:40:27who snapped it up as the very first piece of furniture

0:40:27 > 0:40:29for their new home. Aah!

0:40:29 > 0:40:31Looking at it now, you just can't imagine

0:40:31 > 0:40:33someone wanted to throw it away, to be honest.

0:40:33 > 0:40:36I'm glad they did want to do it away because now we get to keep it.

0:40:36 > 0:40:41Yeah, so, thank you, whoever was going to throw it away, I guess.

0:40:41 > 0:40:42That would be Nick,

0:40:42 > 0:40:44who Sarah is catching up with in Godalming

0:40:44 > 0:40:46to tell him what happened to his sideboard.

0:40:51 > 0:40:53Hi there. Hello. How are you doing?

0:40:53 > 0:40:55I'm very well, how are you?

0:40:55 > 0:40:57Yeah, very well. So, you were having a mad moment

0:40:57 > 0:40:59- when I met you at the recycling centre.- That's right, yeah.

0:40:59 > 0:41:03And I seem to remember you saying something about a sledgehammer

0:41:03 > 0:41:06and you thinking about smashing up the sideboard that we took.

0:41:06 > 0:41:10- Yes!- Well, I'm so pleased that you didn't because I love a sideboard

0:41:10 > 0:41:14and they rarely turn up at the tip in such good condition as your one

0:41:14 > 0:41:17and Daniel Heath, who is a surface pattern designer,

0:41:17 > 0:41:18absolutely loved it.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22So I've got some pictures to show you of how it turned out.

0:41:22 > 0:41:24So, Nick, here's your sideboard.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27- Oh, wow!- Do you think that looks all right?

0:41:27 > 0:41:31That is incredible. Is that, sort of, Mackintosh, isn't it?

0:41:31 > 0:41:34He shared that amongst the people that follow him

0:41:34 > 0:41:38and, immediately that he put a picture up of it online,

0:41:38 > 0:41:39somebody bought it.

0:41:39 > 0:41:42- So, I've got a little bit of profit to share with you.- OK.

0:41:42 > 0:41:46I have £150 here to give to you for Daniel's work on your sideboard.
