0:00:03 > 0:00:05Now, that is what I like to see.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09How do you make money for nothing?

0:00:09 > 0:00:11What's the story behind this?

0:00:11 > 0:00:15The answer could be hiding in over 20 million tonnes of household

0:00:15 > 0:00:18waste thrown out by us every year.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21- And I'd like to have that one as well...- Yeah, sure, if you want.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24That's why reclamation expert Jay Blades wants to

0:00:24 > 0:00:27get his hands on things before they hit the skip.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32I've been a builder, I've been a philosophy student

0:00:32 > 0:00:34and now I'm a furniture restorer,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37so I know more than most about transformation.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40I revamp the old into the new and then sell it on for a profit.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45And with some of the country's elite designers and makers...

0:00:45 > 0:00:48I know it might not look like much.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50So, it's in a bit of a state.

0:00:50 > 0:00:55- ..he can transform his finds into desirable...- But, like, wow.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57..valuable...

0:00:57 > 0:01:01- I weren't expecting that. - ..and hopefully saleable items.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Kev, you've done it again, sir.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08If Jay is successful, then he can hand the profits back to the very

0:01:08 > 0:01:13people who had no idea there was cash to be made from their trash.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16I'm shocked. Jay, I'm shocked!

0:01:25 > 0:01:29Cars are queueing up and trash is being chucked.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34It's another busy day at the Altrincham recycling centre -

0:01:34 > 0:01:36and where there's rubbish, there's Jay.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Hello. What have you got today?

0:01:40 > 0:01:44He's a man on a mission to uncover three items of tip-bound trash

0:01:44 > 0:01:47that he can turn into cold, hard cash.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52He's crushing it, I've got to go and smash it.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55I need three items that are going to bring me a beautiful return.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56Let's go shopping.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Jay's been given the thumbs-up from the big bosses of the dump to

0:02:02 > 0:02:04raid the rubbish.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07Perhaps Colin's trailer might contain one of those

0:02:07 > 0:02:09ever-elusive diamonds in the rough.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Hello, Twiggy. How we doing?

0:02:12 > 0:02:14- Fine, thanks.- You all right?- Yeah.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18Look at this. You must have a big garden.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Not really, but that's mock orange.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Mock orange? And what's that used for, mock orange?

0:02:24 > 0:02:27- Nice floral shrub.- Oh, OK.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30The name mock orange comes from the fact that the shrub's

0:02:30 > 0:02:33fragrant flowers smell citrusy,

0:02:33 > 0:02:34thus the name mock orange.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38At least, I think that's the case,

0:02:38 > 0:02:42or maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick!

0:02:42 > 0:02:45And this is from a twisted willow.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Oh, that's nice. Look at that.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50- How old was the tree?- Well... - Have you chopped it all down?

0:02:50 > 0:02:57- Well, we've planted it in 1994... - Right.- ..when my father-in-law died

0:02:57 > 0:02:59- and he had rheumatoid arthritis. - Yeah.- I don't know whether you know

0:02:59 > 0:03:02- or not, but it makes all your knuckles and your joints...- Yeah.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06..swell and got misshapen, and he would appreciate it,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08we planted a tree in his memory that reminded us of him...

0:03:08 > 0:03:11- Oh!- ..cos he always made a joke of it and this is...

0:03:11 > 0:03:15- Now it's a tree this high...- Yeah. - ..and these are the cuttings off it.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17- So he's made his presence be known, then.- Oh, he has indeed.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Oh, right.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21- JAY LAUGHS - Now, that's quality.- Yeah.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22I like that. I do like that.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25- So, it's the history... - Yeah.- ..in a tree...- Yeah.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29..that reminds you of your father-in-law. Aw, look at that.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31- Can I have all of this, then? - You can have all of it, yeah,

0:03:31 > 0:03:33- with pleasure.- Look at that.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36Oh, that's amazing. So I can have...

0:03:36 > 0:03:39- You can have it all.- And what about some of that?- You can have as much

0:03:39 > 0:03:41- of that as you like. You can have all this.- What about the bag?

0:03:41 > 0:03:44- Keep the bag.- I'm a bit greedy. I can keep the bag?- Oh, no, keep

0:03:44 > 0:03:46- the bag. Yes, I've got...- You sure? - Yeah, I've got plenty of those.

0:03:46 > 0:03:47See, you're too nice to me.

0:03:50 > 0:03:54Does Colin have any ideas what Jay will do with his pruned plants?

0:03:57 > 0:03:59I am surprised he wanted it.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02What he's going to do with it, I haven't got a clue.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05I've thrown much better things away this week that I thought

0:04:05 > 0:04:07perhaps he could've made something with,

0:04:07 > 0:04:10so this'll be a real surprise if he makes anything from this.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16Right, you've caught me putting the finishing touches to my wigwam,

0:04:16 > 0:04:19cos I need someone to stay tonight, and I might as well stay here.

0:04:19 > 0:04:20I'm only joking.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22Look at what I've got.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25This is an unbelievable find, and if you know the right people,

0:04:25 > 0:04:28like I do, you're onto a winner.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32Let's meet the makers Jay's picked to transform these sticks.

0:04:34 > 0:04:38Josh Kennard teamed up with his best mate Oli Milne to start their own

0:04:38 > 0:04:43business as makers of handcrafted furniture and sculptures

0:04:43 > 0:04:46from natural and recycled materials.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48I think our style is pretty contemporary

0:04:48 > 0:04:52but I think we just, we really like natural raw materials

0:04:52 > 0:04:55and we kind of combine those with clean, crisp design.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58I think the main thing that we really love doing is just

0:04:58 > 0:05:02starting on something new, just having the freedom to design

0:05:02 > 0:05:05something and then see it through to a finished product.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08Jay's got himself in a STICKY situation.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Here's hoping he's picked the right guys to help him out.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Jay's saved his first item from the skip.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20But he still needs two more.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24You all right? What are you throwing away, then?

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Not every boot contains tip treasure.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31But maybe Jay will have some luck with Abigail's junk.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35That is a trampoline, isn't it? Or used to be. Is that right?

0:05:35 > 0:05:38- It is, it is.- So it's not bouncing any more. Sorry, my name's Jay.

0:05:38 > 0:05:40- Hi, I'm Abigail.- Oh, right.- Hello.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43So, you're getting rid of a trampoline. Have you got a new one?

0:05:43 > 0:05:47- No, no, this has just been in the garden for about a year...- Right.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49..rusting away, so I thought, yeah, it's time for the tip.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51- How big is it?- It's pretty big.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53I don't know the dimensions

0:05:53 > 0:05:56but it was big enough to fit my two kids, like, a year ago.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58- So the kids don't mind this going? - SHE LAUGHS

0:05:58 > 0:06:01They don't know about it just yet, but they won't miss it, so...

0:06:01 > 0:06:03So hold on a minute, they won't miss it.

0:06:03 > 0:06:05- No.- The kids don't know that the trampoline's gone.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08- They have no idea, no, but... - But it hasn't been used for a year.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12- It hasn't, exactly.- OK. - And they've grown quite a bit since,

0:06:12 > 0:06:15- had a few growth spurts.- OK.

0:06:15 > 0:06:18It was big enough for them a year ago but maybe not so much today.

0:06:18 > 0:06:19So are all the bits here, then?

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Most of the pieces are in there but, like, there's things like

0:06:22 > 0:06:26this screw's pretty rusted now cos, like I said, it's been in the garden

0:06:26 > 0:06:29- for a really long time. - Wow. Yeah, that is rusted, isn't it?

0:06:29 > 0:06:31- Yeah, definitely.- Cor blimey.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33- That's proper rust, isn't it? - That's it.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35But it's these that I'm after, really. This.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38- And there's quite a lot of them here as well, isn't there?- Mm.

0:06:38 > 0:06:41- So do you mind if I take these? - Not at all. Go for it.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43- Well, I'll help you get rid of all the other stuff as well.- Aw.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45- If that's all right with you.- Deal. No problem.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48- SHE LAUGHS - Cool.- Thank you.- Thank you, Abigail.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50Well, I'll have this, get all the big stuff out,

0:06:50 > 0:06:53and then, yeah, I'll come and help you with the smaller stuff.

0:06:53 > 0:06:54- Super.- All right?

0:06:56 > 0:07:00What does Abigail think Jay will get up to with her trampoline?

0:07:00 > 0:07:03I've got no idea what he's going to do with it but, yeah,

0:07:03 > 0:07:06it was quite interesting for me just to, you know, have my day off

0:07:06 > 0:07:08of coming to the tip and sorting out the house

0:07:08 > 0:07:10and - boom - here we are.

0:07:12 > 0:07:13So, trampolines.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Most children grow out of them and don't want to use them any more,

0:07:16 > 0:07:19so then they end up gathering rust in the garden.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22I think I know just the person to take this to that can get

0:07:22 > 0:07:24this bouncing back a profit.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26So who is this crafty type

0:07:26 > 0:07:31Jay thinks can turn scrap metal into a money-maker?

0:07:31 > 0:07:32It's Kev Paxton.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35Kev worked as an industrial blacksmith

0:07:35 > 0:07:39for over 20 years before giving it up to pursue his passion -

0:07:39 > 0:07:43forging reclaimed metal into works of art

0:07:43 > 0:07:47inspired by the rugged beauty of the Scottish countryside

0:07:47 > 0:07:48and its wildlife.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52It's all, like, feel-good art, we don't want to have like this,

0:07:52 > 0:07:56"Mm, what's that?" You know, it's all about just Mother Nature

0:07:56 > 0:07:58and feeling good and smiling, basically.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01You want to do something that's really difficult,

0:08:01 > 0:08:05it gives you, like, more incentive to push harder and to do it,

0:08:05 > 0:08:08so, yeah, I would say it's an obsession now.

0:08:09 > 0:08:13Here's hoping Kev can bring his artistic flair to these

0:08:13 > 0:08:14pieces of scrap.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23Jay's mission for trash treasure continues.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25He's got goodies for his makers

0:08:25 > 0:08:29but the hunt is on for a bit of junk that he can transform.

0:08:30 > 0:08:34Is there a piece of potential loot in Tony's boot?

0:08:34 > 0:08:37Oh, wow. This looks all right. Where's all the fish gone?

0:08:37 > 0:08:38TONY LAUGHS

0:08:38 > 0:08:41I'm moving them for my daughter, she's just had a young lad,

0:08:41 > 0:08:43he's just one, so...

0:08:43 > 0:08:46- Right.- ..he's into everything and they were waiting to be thrown,

0:08:46 > 0:08:50- so that's why I've been round and done my duty.- This is your bit,

0:08:50 > 0:08:53- you've got to throw them away? - Yeah.- So this, I do like that.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55- Right.- This, you'll not get...

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Where's the goldfish that was in here anyway? Is it gone, yeah?

0:08:57 > 0:08:59Into another one, I would imagine.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02That's quite smart, man, I do like that.

0:09:02 > 0:09:06- Ah.- I've never done a goldfish bowl before.- Right.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08- But these ones, these are glass, aren't they?- No, no, plastic.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11- Is that plastic as well?- Yeah, they're all plastic.- All right.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14- So where they gone, they're in...? - They're in another tank now.

0:09:14 > 0:09:16- In a bigger tank?- He's gone bigger. - He's gone bigger.- Yeah.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18- He's upgrading.- Bigger's better.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22- So they say.- So you don't mind if I take these, then, no?

0:09:22 > 0:09:25- Not at all, not at all. No. - Are you sure?- Yeah, positive.

0:09:25 > 0:09:26Tony, you're a diamond.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29- But I won't take that one, though. - No, no, OK.- I'll have these three

0:09:29 > 0:09:32- but not that one.- You carry on. - All right?- Yeah, fine.

0:09:32 > 0:09:33That's cool, innit?

0:09:35 > 0:09:39Is Tony taken aback that Jay's snaffled up his fish tanks?

0:09:39 > 0:09:41I'm very surprised he wants them.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43I haven't got a clue what he's going to do.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46Perhaps a lamp with the round one, but the others...

0:09:46 > 0:09:47I've no clue.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50I've got three fish tanks

0:09:50 > 0:09:54but the one that I'm warming to is this baby here.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56The shape is just nice

0:09:56 > 0:09:58and it's quite fun.

0:09:58 > 0:10:00It's going to take some hard work to turn it into something.

0:10:00 > 0:10:01I think it can be done.

0:10:03 > 0:10:06It's been a successful day at the dump for Jay.

0:10:06 > 0:10:10Josh and Oli will work their makeover magic on the sticks,

0:10:10 > 0:10:14metalwork-master Kev will be tackling the trampoline

0:10:14 > 0:10:19and Jay will try and transform the fish tank into something saleable.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24I call that a really successful day at the recycling centre,

0:10:24 > 0:10:26but now the real hard work begins.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34The sun is shining in West Sussex and we're in for a treat.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39We've been invited to bear witness to the latest creation

0:10:39 > 0:10:44by our favourite bearded boy wonders of carpentry, Josh and Oli.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47Obviously they have something impressive to show off

0:10:47 > 0:10:50and it's an honour to witness its unveiling.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52So, what have you got, boys?

0:10:56 > 0:10:59- Very funny, lads, very funny. - Onwards, steed!

0:11:01 > 0:11:02They're all smiles now,

0:11:02 > 0:11:05but wait till they get a load of what Jay has got for them.

0:11:08 > 0:11:12We've heard that it's kind of like some sort of raw material,

0:11:12 > 0:11:14a wooden raw material.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17So, yeah, we're not quite sure what to expect,

0:11:17 > 0:11:20but I'm sure it will be good if Jay's bringing it in.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22- I really don't know. - Could go either way.- Yeah.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27I know which way I'M hoping it goes.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29There we are.

0:11:29 > 0:11:30Oh, right.

0:11:30 > 0:11:34I know it might not look like much...

0:11:34 > 0:11:36There is a lot in there and...

0:11:37 > 0:11:41Yeah, the only people I thought of was you guys.

0:11:41 > 0:11:42Well, cheers, Jay.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45I think you need to take it back to the tip, mate.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48Really? They can't be that bad. I think they're quite cool!

0:11:48 > 0:11:51- This one's all rotten inside. - Oh, is it?- Yeah, yeah.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53Oh, that's one bad one, that's one bad one,

0:11:53 > 0:11:56but there's loads here, look, there's loads.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59All right, my plan was getting these drilled to the wall

0:11:59 > 0:12:03in some way and having kitchen utensils hanging off of them.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05- Like a kitchen utensil rack.- Yeah.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08We can make loads of them because, look, we've got loads in here.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Yeah, we've got loads.

0:12:10 > 0:12:15They're not too keen on Jay's idea, but do they have any of their own?

0:12:15 > 0:12:17- Nice and straight, this one. - Yeah, very straight.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20- Could make some boards out of that. - JAY LAUGHS

0:12:20 > 0:12:23Hey, they should form a double act!

0:12:23 > 0:12:25I mean, some of these curly ones do quite lend themselves to

0:12:25 > 0:12:27- hooks or something in some way. - Yeah.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29Like, if there was a wall there...

0:12:29 > 0:12:31- A coat rack or something. - Yeah, a coat rack.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34See? Now you're on my wavelength! This is what I like to see.

0:12:34 > 0:12:38OK, now the creative juices are beginning to flow.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40Is there some way we can, like...

0:12:42 > 0:12:45..use a mixture of these bits as a tabletop

0:12:45 > 0:12:48and then finish it off with a bit of glass on top

0:12:48 > 0:12:49to obviously flatten it?

0:12:49 > 0:12:53Yeah, no, I'm cool with that. But your budget - how much?

0:12:53 > 0:12:56Well, seeing as it's a table, there is a fair bit of work to it.

0:12:56 > 0:12:57Yeah, it's going to be pricey.

0:12:57 > 0:13:02Well, I reckon it would be at least 450-500, something like that.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04OK, I can handle that.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07So what I'm going to do, I'm going to shake on that

0:13:07 > 0:13:11- and say 450-500 for a table. - See how it goes.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14- And just come up with something. - Yeah, we'll come up with something.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16- See you later. Have fun with them, yeah?- We will!

0:13:16 > 0:13:18- Cheers for that, Jay! - All right, no problem.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22He's certainly left us with a challenge this time.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26Yeah, it's just going to be a real challenge.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28I think we'll be able to do something with it.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30It's certainly interesting stuff to work with,

0:13:30 > 0:13:35but we've just got to work out how it can become something useful.

0:13:35 > 0:13:39It's not really shouting furniture at the moment, though, is this?

0:13:40 > 0:13:45The lads have up to £500 to make the table.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49Jay has got faith in their skills. Let's hope it's a wise investment.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56From sunny Sussex to the Scottish capital.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03Edinburgh is home to metalwork master Kev.

0:14:07 > 0:14:10And Jay has sent him the rusty trampoline.

0:14:12 > 0:14:14I've got lots of good materials here, I've got quite a few good

0:14:14 > 0:14:17ideas in my head, but we'll need to run them past Jay first, I suppose.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23- Hello.- All right, Kev, how are you doing? It's Jay.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25So, did you get the trampoline?

0:14:25 > 0:14:27I think that's what it was meant to be, yeah,

0:14:27 > 0:14:30it's seen maybe better days as a trampoline.

0:14:30 > 0:14:35I think it's time to start bouncing ideas around.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38So, the idea I had was basically to do some kind of outdoor

0:14:38 > 0:14:43- kind of thing. - Yeah, what about a nice table?

0:14:43 > 0:14:45We could make it fit for outdoors but then

0:14:45 > 0:14:48if someone wants it to be inside, they can have it inside.

0:14:48 > 0:14:52An inside and outside table - best of both worlds.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55- How much is this going to cost me? - What, about 360?

0:14:55 > 0:14:56That's a deal, sir,

0:14:56 > 0:14:59because a table coming from you is going to be amazing.

0:15:01 > 0:15:06I think between us, we've come up with a possibly good idea,

0:15:06 > 0:15:08so we're going to make a nice table.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12He wants it to be my style, so, yeah, that's what we'll do.

0:15:12 > 0:15:16Kev's style is inspired by the Scottish countryside

0:15:16 > 0:15:21and its wildlife, such as the national flower - the thistle.

0:15:21 > 0:15:22And Highland cows.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26I found this lovely big piece of wood,

0:15:26 > 0:15:30a piece of oak, really nice rustic piece of oak,

0:15:30 > 0:15:35and I plan to do the table rustic and very organic as well.

0:15:36 > 0:15:40So I think we'll use this whole piece of wood for Jay's table,

0:15:40 > 0:15:42so I he's probably going to get a lot bigger table

0:15:42 > 0:15:44than he's imagining.

0:15:44 > 0:15:48Don't be too sure, Jay has got a pretty big imagination.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51But an oak tree-inspired table could be a match for him.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54I'll start cutting this up.

0:15:54 > 0:15:58I think we may be about to get some angle grinder action.

0:16:00 > 0:16:01Yeah, there we go.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06Kev will use the metal poles of the trampoline

0:16:06 > 0:16:08not just to make the table legs

0:16:08 > 0:16:13but also the oak leaves which will adorn the sides of the tabletop.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17And we're getting some welding action now. Even better.

0:16:19 > 0:16:23So there's an old saying that goes something along the lines of

0:16:23 > 0:16:27"from a little acorn a mighty oak grows".

0:16:27 > 0:16:29It's quite appropriate on this project

0:16:29 > 0:16:33because from an old junk trampoline that was thrown out,

0:16:33 > 0:16:36we're going to hopefully convert it into a big, strong table.

0:16:40 > 0:16:45Wouldn't it be great if alongside the mighty oak tree-inspired table

0:16:45 > 0:16:49Jay made a mighty profit from his £360 investment?

0:16:56 > 0:16:59Jay has dropped off the branches with Josh and Oli

0:16:59 > 0:17:01and Kev is working away on the trampoline.

0:17:04 > 0:17:09Now, our intrepid super salvager is at his workshop in Wolverhampton,

0:17:09 > 0:17:13ready to begin transforming the goldfish bowl.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16I've never worked on a fish tank before

0:17:16 > 0:17:19and I've never done what I'm about to do.

0:17:19 > 0:17:23What I'm intending on doing to this is turning it into a terrarium.

0:17:23 > 0:17:24I know, it's a bit of a mouthful,

0:17:24 > 0:17:27but basically what it is is an indoor garden.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30I just can't wait to get my green fingers going.

0:17:30 > 0:17:32So, first things first, is cleaning.

0:17:32 > 0:17:35Roll up the sleeves and get all this mildew off of it.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39And then I'll get planting.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43Unusually, Jay is giving off a nervy vibe.

0:17:44 > 0:17:47He's a street-smart connoisseur of cool

0:17:47 > 0:17:51and if he's got green fingers, it would be from a splash of paint,

0:17:51 > 0:17:55so you might say he's a fish out of water with this project.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01So now I've got it cleaned with some water.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04I've got a bathroom cleaner here, which is just a foam thing,

0:18:04 > 0:18:07squirt it in there and that gets all the grime off.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12Aquariums can contain bacteria

0:18:12 > 0:18:16and germs that are harmful to we humans, so it's important

0:18:16 > 0:18:19to give it a right scrub down with a germ-killing cleaner.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25So now that's squeaky-clean, now it's time for some gardening.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31Ladies and gentlefolk of Great Britain,

0:18:31 > 0:18:34welcome to Jay's gardening for beginners.

0:18:34 > 0:18:36What I've got is the gravel.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39That's going to go in at the base, then I've got some compost.

0:18:40 > 0:18:42Put that in and then start planting.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47This is the first time I'm doing this, so bear with me.

0:18:47 > 0:18:51It may be his first time, but don't fret - he's done his research

0:18:51 > 0:18:54and taken tips from the experts.

0:18:54 > 0:18:58First up, he's making a 1.5 inch layer of gravel

0:18:58 > 0:18:59to collect the water drainage.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04Next is a 2.5 inch thick layer of soil,

0:19:04 > 0:19:06deep enough for the plants to take root.

0:19:08 > 0:19:12Jay has chosen soil specifically designed for succulents -

0:19:12 > 0:19:15thick, fleshy plants such as cacti -

0:19:15 > 0:19:17which retain water for long periods of time.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21So now...

0:19:21 > 0:19:25That's starting to look like a really good indoor garden.

0:19:25 > 0:19:28For my first attempt, I don't think I've done too badly.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32To show off his succulents, Jay is building a display stand.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34I've been down to my local timber yard

0:19:34 > 0:19:37and I've got all of my material for my plinth.

0:19:37 > 0:19:39It's going to look a bit like this.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41And you're going to have colour on the outside

0:19:41 > 0:19:43and a little bit of colour running on the inside,

0:19:43 > 0:19:45and colour on the outside of there,

0:19:45 > 0:19:47and then as you look up to the top of it,

0:19:47 > 0:19:49you can see the indoor garden.

0:19:49 > 0:19:50Bosh. Brilliant.

0:19:53 > 0:19:56Well, it would appear Jay has got his swagger back.

0:19:56 > 0:19:59Now he's on the familiar territory of woodwork.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04To add the colour, Jay is using sheets of sticky-back plastic

0:20:04 > 0:20:07which will give the plinth a glossy sheen.

0:20:07 > 0:20:09He's cutting it to size

0:20:09 > 0:20:12and ever so carefully applying it to his pre-cut timber.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17This, you've got to make sure you've got it all smooth

0:20:17 > 0:20:19and there's no room for mistakes at all.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24And my top tip to avoid mistakes -

0:20:24 > 0:20:25well, don't make any!

0:20:26 > 0:20:28It's going off course.

0:20:28 > 0:20:30You can see there it's going off course,

0:20:30 > 0:20:31so as I've got to do it again...

0:20:33 > 0:20:35..I'll have to cut another bit.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42This bit just has to be perfect.

0:20:42 > 0:20:45If I don't get it right I'm going to have to use another bit,

0:20:45 > 0:20:48then use another bit, use another bit, until you have none left.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52So once I get it wrong, the whole bit is wrong.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55Do we have a successful stick-down this time, then?

0:20:58 > 0:20:59Oh... I guess not.

0:21:02 > 0:21:05So far, Jay has spent £37.

0:21:05 > 0:21:09Here's hoping his green fingers put a little green in his pocket too.

0:21:15 > 0:21:19In West Sussex, our bearded boy wonders Josh and Oli

0:21:19 > 0:21:22have been given more sticks than you can shake a stick at!

0:21:24 > 0:21:26We said we would make a table.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30Er, I'm going to get my sketchbook out and try

0:21:30 > 0:21:33- and have a think about if that's going to work.- OK.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36The lads' talent has come up trumps time and again

0:21:36 > 0:21:40when challenged with trash transformations.

0:21:40 > 0:21:42But this could be their biggest challenge yet.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46I'm not really, er, I'm not really feeling this table idea.

0:21:46 > 0:21:50- No, me neither. - Can we do some kind of...

0:21:50 > 0:21:54Like a big, like, some sort of lighting, like a big chandelier?

0:21:54 > 0:21:58- Yeah, I like that idea. - Like a huge sort of woven basket.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00- Yeah, like a big... - Ball of twigs.- ..nest.

0:22:00 > 0:22:02Yeah, hopefully Jay won't mind.

0:22:03 > 0:22:07Oh, who cares about him? He's only the boss.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09I think we both just feel that, er...

0:22:11 > 0:22:15..it's not really lending itself to becoming a table. But, erm...

0:22:16 > 0:22:19So I think we both quite like the idea of doing, like, a big,

0:22:19 > 0:22:21erm, sort of statement piece chandelier.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27- Nice, I like it.- All right, cool. - Make some pretty crazy shadows.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33So, farewell, twisty stick table,

0:22:33 > 0:22:37and a great big hello to curly wood chandelier!

0:22:39 > 0:22:44Josh has some shopping to do for electrical components while Oli

0:22:44 > 0:22:48is in charge of sorting out the big sticks from the little sticks.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51We're feeling confident now cos we've come up with

0:22:51 > 0:22:52an idea that we really like.

0:22:52 > 0:22:57I've sorted out the twigs, er, cos it's probably best to start

0:22:57 > 0:23:01with the bigger ones for, erm, the main structure.

0:23:03 > 0:23:05With positivity high,

0:23:05 > 0:23:09Oli can finally see what drew Jay to the pile of prunings.

0:23:10 > 0:23:15Nature's just done something really unusual, and it's so random,

0:23:15 > 0:23:19you can't really reproduce that with anything that's man-made.

0:23:21 > 0:23:22Looks like a little snake.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24No, looks more like a stick insect to me!

0:23:27 > 0:23:31We've got to buy light components now. This is kind of, er...

0:23:31 > 0:23:32It's like a ceiling rose

0:23:32 > 0:23:36but it's going to be inside our big chandelier,

0:23:36 > 0:23:41so, erm, I'm going to turn a little, like, wooden housing for it,

0:23:41 > 0:23:43with a dome at the top,

0:23:43 > 0:23:46so then that'll hopefully be the starting point for our...

0:23:47 > 0:23:49..er, like, sphere shape.

0:23:52 > 0:23:56To make the wooden housing, Josh is mounting a block of chestnut

0:23:56 > 0:23:59timber onto the lathe, which he'll craft into a dome.

0:24:01 > 0:24:05And, wise young man that he is, he's wearing the appropriate safety gear.

0:24:07 > 0:24:11Josh is using a set of turning chisels to carve the housing.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13He's started with the gouger.

0:24:14 > 0:24:17What I really love about turning is just the fact that you're,

0:24:17 > 0:24:21like, working quite closely with the wood, and you can see

0:24:21 > 0:24:24this shape kind of appearing in front of you quite quickly.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26Erm, it's a really satisfying process,

0:24:26 > 0:24:29especially when you get sort of nice shavings coming off,

0:24:29 > 0:24:32and everything's sort of working sweetly, it's really nice.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36Oli is beginning to build

0:24:36 > 0:24:39the bird's-nest-like structure from the sticks.

0:24:39 > 0:24:42This is, er, coming together a bit now.

0:24:42 > 0:24:47Got this first circle there. It's just a bit tricky.

0:24:47 > 0:24:48Ideally, you want to find the ones

0:24:48 > 0:24:50which kind of form that curve naturally.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54Erm, but these just want to go all over the place.

0:24:54 > 0:24:57Erm, but once I've got that basic globe kind of shape then

0:24:57 > 0:24:59I can start filling it in with the smaller stuff.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05Josh and Oli are excited by their twisty chandelier, but with

0:25:05 > 0:25:09Jay expecting a table, let's hope it doesn't become a sticking point.

0:25:14 > 0:25:15In Edinburgh...

0:25:17 > 0:25:20..Kev's transformation of the trampoline

0:25:20 > 0:25:24into an oak tree-inspired dining table is well underway.

0:25:27 > 0:25:31He's used part of the frame to make the tree-trunk table legs...

0:25:31 > 0:25:34and is now cutting up the rest of the frame to make

0:25:34 > 0:25:36the decorative flourishes.

0:25:36 > 0:25:40Hopefully in a couple of hours' time these'll be oak leaves.

0:25:40 > 0:25:45The future of this trampoline is so bright, Kev's got to wear shades.

0:25:45 > 0:25:48This, once upon a day, would have been a flat piece of metal,

0:25:48 > 0:25:51and so we're just going to reverse the process now.

0:25:51 > 0:25:56Kev's got all the cool kit - he's using a plasma cutter to slice

0:25:56 > 0:26:00the tubes, which will allow him to unfurl the metal, giving him

0:26:00 > 0:26:03the raw material to make the leaves.

0:26:05 > 0:26:07In my opinion, Mother Nature's the best artist there is.

0:26:07 > 0:26:11I love being out in the countryside, walking my dogs...

0:26:11 > 0:26:13Borrow some ideas from Mother Nature and, er,

0:26:13 > 0:26:15transform them into my ideas.

0:26:21 > 0:26:25Kev has stacked the sliced tubes into a small furnace.

0:26:25 > 0:26:30This will heat them to around 1,350 degrees centigrade,

0:26:30 > 0:26:32known as the forging temperature,

0:26:32 > 0:26:36the point at which metal becomes soft but won't melt.

0:26:36 > 0:26:40This will allow Kev to change the metal's shape without cracking it.

0:26:41 > 0:26:44It's looking quite good so far. They're opening up OK.

0:26:45 > 0:26:48It seems to be in quite good condition.

0:26:48 > 0:26:49There's no' really any rust.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53With the metal tube now flattened,

0:26:53 > 0:26:56it's back to the plasma cutter to create the leaf.

0:27:00 > 0:27:04Kev will detail this rough shape by hand.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06There's no fancy bits of kit for this -

0:27:06 > 0:27:11just years of training in the traditional craft of blacksmithing.

0:27:11 > 0:27:14I like to keep the tradition of blacksmithing real.

0:27:14 > 0:27:17Basically what a blacksmith's been doing for the last hundreds

0:27:17 > 0:27:23and hundreds of years - so a hammer, an anvil, blood, sweat, tears.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26Here's hoping Jay will be crying tears of joy

0:27:26 > 0:27:28when he sees the finished table.

0:27:32 > 0:27:36While the crafty types tackle their upcycling adventures,

0:27:36 > 0:27:39Jay is almost ready to reveal his terrarium.

0:27:41 > 0:27:42This is such a nice feeling.

0:27:42 > 0:27:46Putting the last screws into the lid means I'm finished.

0:27:46 > 0:27:49All I've got to do is just put my indoor garden on top,

0:27:49 > 0:27:50kick back, and enjoy the view.

0:27:55 > 0:27:57He's not the green fingered type, our Jay,

0:27:57 > 0:28:01but he's not afraid to try his hand at something new.

0:28:06 > 0:28:11The indoor garden, as Jay calls it, may not be in full bloom yet.

0:28:11 > 0:28:15But sitting atop the bright, bold colours of the plinth,

0:28:15 > 0:28:17it certainly catches the eye.

0:28:18 > 0:28:22The primary colours contrast nicely with the soft natural

0:28:22 > 0:28:23tones of the succulents.

0:28:24 > 0:28:27The plants have taken root and are thriving.

0:28:30 > 0:28:34For a first-time gardener, Jay's done a great job -

0:28:34 > 0:28:38which I'm sure he'll not be shy in telling us himself.

0:28:42 > 0:28:45Now, I've got to admit this one, this is lovely.

0:28:45 > 0:28:48I never anticipated being a gardener, but look what I've done!

0:28:48 > 0:28:51It's great, isn't it? Now all I've got to do is sell this.

0:28:53 > 0:28:58At the recycling centre, Jay really can turn up some surprises.

0:28:58 > 0:29:02- Just like Tony's trunk full of junk. - Where's the goldfish that was in it?

0:29:02 > 0:29:05- They're in another tank now. - In a bigger tank?- It's gone bigger.

0:29:05 > 0:29:09- It's gone bigger?- Yeah.- Yeah, he's upgraded.- Bigger's better.

0:29:09 > 0:29:11- So they say! - THEY LAUGH

0:29:11 > 0:29:14Jay took on Tony's words of advice for this project.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20The terrarium was purchased by Cathy,

0:29:20 > 0:29:24owner of Head Over Heels, a soft play area in Wilmslow.

0:29:26 > 0:29:29We love the item. It's, er, it's original, it's fun, it's different.

0:29:29 > 0:29:31You know, it's one of a kind.

0:29:33 > 0:29:37Now Jay is on his way to Tony's home in Altrincham with a pocket

0:29:37 > 0:29:38full of profit.

0:29:40 > 0:29:44- Hello, Jay.- How you doing?- All right, yeah, good to see you again.

0:29:44 > 0:29:45Likewise. How have you been?

0:29:45 > 0:29:48- I've been good, and you? - That's good. Not too bad.

0:29:48 > 0:29:51- Busy?- As a bumblebee in the summer, that's how busy!

0:29:51 > 0:29:53- Bumblebee! - THEY LAUGH

0:29:53 > 0:29:55But do you remember the fish tank that you brought to the

0:29:55 > 0:29:57- recycling centre?- I do, yeah.

0:29:57 > 0:29:59- How long did you have it for? - It was my daughter's,

0:29:59 > 0:30:02- who was throwing it out cos they got a new one.- Right.

0:30:02 > 0:30:07And because her son was messing with it, who's only 18 months old, so...

0:30:07 > 0:30:09Well, you'll be pleased to know, or maybe not,

0:30:09 > 0:30:12- I was the one that took this project on.- Oh, right, very good.

0:30:12 > 0:30:15And basically what I did with it is I turned it into a terrarium.

0:30:15 > 0:30:18- That's brilliant, that. - Which basically is an indoor garden.

0:30:18 > 0:30:21- Yeah, yeah.- But then I thought I'd make a feature of the stand...

0:30:21 > 0:30:24- Right, yeah.- ..so everybody can have a look at it, and what I've done is

0:30:24 > 0:30:27you've got different colours all the way around.

0:30:27 > 0:30:28What do you think of that, then?

0:30:28 > 0:30:31For something that was going on the tip, I think it looks good.

0:30:31 > 0:30:32- And the stand sets it off.- Yeah.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35This I enjoyed, I enjoyed the terrarium because that was all,

0:30:35 > 0:30:39like, gardening, and I don't get out much, so it was quite nice to do.

0:30:39 > 0:30:41No, that's excellent.

0:30:41 > 0:30:44I'm also able to tell you I was able to sell it,

0:30:44 > 0:30:46and I've got for you £28...

0:30:48 > 0:30:50- ..for you, sir. - Excellent, thank you very much.

0:30:50 > 0:30:52- Well, that'll go to young Daniel. - Who's young Daniel?

0:30:52 > 0:30:59- My, er, grandson.- Oh, OK.- It was his rubbish.- Oh, it was his rubbish!

0:30:59 > 0:31:01- So it can go in his money box.- Oh, bless.- He's only 18 months, so...

0:31:01 > 0:31:03That's a brilliant one, no, thank you.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06- Thank you, it's been a pleasure to see you again.- Likewise.

0:31:06 > 0:31:08I'll see you down there again sometime.

0:31:08 > 0:31:10- Of course you will! - THEY LAUGH

0:31:10 > 0:31:11- You take care.- OK.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16Jay spent £37 on his indoor garden.

0:31:16 > 0:31:22He sold it for £65, turning a profit of £28 for Tony,

0:31:22 > 0:31:27who is doing what all good grandads do - treating his grandchild.

0:31:30 > 0:31:33With one upcycling success story in the bag,

0:31:33 > 0:31:38Jay is heading to Kev's workshop to see the oak tree-inspired table.

0:31:38 > 0:31:40But Kev's got a confession.

0:31:41 > 0:31:44Erm, I've been a bit naughty on this -

0:31:44 > 0:31:46I've overspent by quite a bit.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52I think he'll like what we've done, but I've blown his budget

0:31:52 > 0:31:54so I hope he's in a good mood.

0:31:54 > 0:31:59Kev has only one hope - that his trampoline into table transformation

0:31:59 > 0:32:03puts a spring into Jay's step and has him jumping for joy.

0:32:06 > 0:32:09Kev is inspired by Mother Nature.

0:32:09 > 0:32:12I think even she would be mighty impressed by this.

0:32:14 > 0:32:17The delicate iron acorns, twisting vines

0:32:17 > 0:32:21and leaves sit underneath the oak table top,

0:32:21 > 0:32:23with the tree bark left on the edges

0:32:23 > 0:32:26adding another nature-infused design touch.

0:32:27 > 0:32:31Kev has treated the timber and galvanised the steel,

0:32:31 > 0:32:34so it can be used inside or out.

0:32:34 > 0:32:36The table is elegant and graceful,

0:32:36 > 0:32:38yet strong and sturdy,

0:32:38 > 0:32:40just like an oak tree.

0:32:41 > 0:32:45I'm impressed, Mother Nature is probably impressed -

0:32:45 > 0:32:47but what about Jay?

0:32:47 > 0:32:49This must be mine. How we doing, Kev?

0:32:49 > 0:32:52- How you doing, Jay? OK, mate? - I'm very good.

0:32:52 > 0:32:54I love it. I really do.

0:32:54 > 0:32:56Oh, man.

0:32:56 > 0:33:00Now, that's more than I was anticipating on getting.

0:33:00 > 0:33:02I'm not even concentrating on the bottom, it's just that.

0:33:02 > 0:33:05- Scottish oak, yeah?- Yeah. - Lovely.

0:33:05 > 0:33:07See now, that...

0:33:07 > 0:33:09..just leads me to the bottom. Now, this is the...

0:33:09 > 0:33:12Cor blimey.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15What have you done?! Oh, man!

0:33:15 > 0:33:16Well, you see the...

0:33:16 > 0:33:20- Acorns.- Yeah, and see the wee bits? That's the springs.

0:33:20 > 0:33:22Oh...

0:33:22 > 0:33:24Because we didn't know if it was going to be like

0:33:24 > 0:33:27on a decking or a patio or we were going to take it into a kitchen,

0:33:27 > 0:33:30- we galvanised it. - OK.- So it wouldn't rust.

0:33:30 > 0:33:33And the timber, it's been treated as well, it's been oiled.

0:33:33 > 0:33:36- So that should be quite happy outside as well.- Cool.

0:33:36 > 0:33:40I love the acorns, though. That's a perfect touch.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42Acorns, you've got the oak on top...

0:33:42 > 0:33:44I am over the moon with this one.

0:33:44 > 0:33:47It's... It's much more than I expected.

0:33:47 > 0:33:52Jay is blown away by the skill and artistry of Kev's work.

0:33:52 > 0:33:56But will he blow his top at Kev's overspend?

0:33:56 > 0:33:58I love it. I love it.

0:33:58 > 0:34:00But - I've got to love the budget as well.

0:34:00 > 0:34:03What are we talking, like? Cos 350 I said on this, yeah?

0:34:03 > 0:34:06I think you said 360, but...

0:34:06 > 0:34:08360? Oh, come on, knock off that tenner.

0:34:08 > 0:34:10No, all right. How much did we do?

0:34:10 > 0:34:14Because it's a beautiful piece of oak, I've had to go over a bit.

0:34:14 > 0:34:17You've gone over? Cor blimey, how much did you go over?!

0:34:17 > 0:34:20About 115 over, it's about 475.

0:34:20 > 0:34:21- JAY MUTTERS:- 475...

0:34:21 > 0:34:26475, that's not too bad, cos we've got Scottish oak...

0:34:26 > 0:34:29we've still got the trampoline and we've got some acorns underneath there.

0:34:29 > 0:34:32And some pieces, you have to go over.

0:34:32 > 0:34:34Now, this is exactly what you needed on here.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36- I think you've picked it right. - I'm confident with this one.

0:34:36 > 0:34:39A few clients have been into the Smiddy recently, and if

0:34:39 > 0:34:42I'd let them, I could have probably let them take it away there and then.

0:34:42 > 0:34:46- Wow. Kev, nice one! - Pleasure, mate.- Take care.

0:34:46 > 0:34:47Cheers for that.

0:34:47 > 0:34:49It may be over budget,

0:34:49 > 0:34:52but Jay is still confident he can make a profit.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55Jay did appreciate the effort I'd put in,

0:34:55 > 0:34:59he was really getting involved with all the elements underneath,

0:34:59 > 0:35:02there's quite a lot going on under this table...

0:35:02 > 0:35:05And he was really enthusiastic about all the effort

0:35:05 > 0:35:08that went into underneath, so that's a nice reaction to get.

0:35:08 > 0:35:11The trampoline certainly looks very different

0:35:11 > 0:35:14from when Jay spotted it in the back of Abigail's boot.

0:35:14 > 0:35:16It had been

0:35:16 > 0:35:21left to rust, and was about to hit the skip when it caught Jay's eye.

0:35:21 > 0:35:24- This has just been in the garden for about a year...- Right.

0:35:24 > 0:35:27Rusting away, so, I thought, yeah, it's time for the tip.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29It escaped its fate,

0:35:29 > 0:35:33and was born again in Kev's expert hands.

0:35:35 > 0:35:38Jay is heading to Abigail's home in Altrincham,

0:35:38 > 0:35:42to show her what became of her kids' trampoline.

0:35:42 > 0:35:44- Hello.- Hi, how's it going?

0:35:44 > 0:35:46- How you doing? - Really nice to see you.- Likewise.

0:35:46 > 0:35:48So do you remember the trampoline frame that you

0:35:48 > 0:35:50- brought down to the recycling centre?- Yeah, I do.

0:35:50 > 0:35:53- How long did you have that? - Oh, gosh. Erm...

0:35:53 > 0:35:55- Couple of years, I think. - Oh, was it?

0:35:55 > 0:35:58- At least, yeah.- So, it was in the back garden here, was it?- Yeah.

0:35:58 > 0:36:00And then the kids are not using it any more, or...?

0:36:00 > 0:36:02Well, when we moved here,

0:36:02 > 0:36:05the garden just had, like, different dimensions

0:36:05 > 0:36:07and it was just really too big,

0:36:07 > 0:36:08so we didn't put it up.

0:36:08 > 0:36:11- OK.- So it was just in a corner, like, rusting away.

0:36:11 > 0:36:14Well, I took it to a guy called Kev, up in Edinburgh.

0:36:14 > 0:36:17And he turned your old, rusty trampoline...

0:36:17 > 0:36:18- No way!- ..into...

0:36:18 > 0:36:20Let me show you this.

0:36:20 > 0:36:21Oh, my gosh!

0:36:21 > 0:36:23- It is amazing, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:36:23 > 0:36:25It's beautiful.

0:36:25 > 0:36:26- So basically...- Wow.

0:36:26 > 0:36:29..what he's done - the bottom bit is your frame.

0:36:29 > 0:36:31- So he's turned it into...- OK.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33..the actual legs,

0:36:33 > 0:36:36and you've got, like, acorns there, oak leaves...

0:36:36 > 0:36:38That's gorgeous.

0:36:38 > 0:36:41And then he's put a bit of Scottish oak on top, just to top it all off.

0:36:41 > 0:36:44- But it doesn't look like a trampoline any more. - No, it certainly doesn't!

0:36:44 > 0:36:47Who would have thought you'd turn a trampoline into a

0:36:47 > 0:36:48beautiful table like that?

0:36:48 > 0:36:50I'm glad you think it's beautiful.

0:36:50 > 0:36:53- So did someone else who bought it. - Oh, really?

0:36:53 > 0:36:55And I'm pleased to tell you that I have for you...

0:36:55 > 0:36:59- ..£275 profit.- Oh, my God!

0:37:00 > 0:37:02- Seriously?!- Yeah, for your old rusty trampoline.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04- Oh, my God!- That's yours.

0:37:06 > 0:37:07- Thank you so much. - Is that all right?

0:37:07 > 0:37:09Wow, that's amazing.

0:37:09 > 0:37:12- So what are you going to do with the money?- Oh, my goodness.

0:37:12 > 0:37:14Well, we're actually moving again in a couple of months,

0:37:14 > 0:37:18- so I may as well get them a new trampoline.- It would help!

0:37:19 > 0:37:21- You NEED to get 'em a new trampoline.- I do. Yes, I do.- OK.

0:37:21 > 0:37:25You're moving again, you're going to get a new trampoline for the kids so they'll be bouncing away.

0:37:25 > 0:37:27They've been asking, so...I will.

0:37:27 > 0:37:30- That's good. There you go. - Thank you!- All right?

0:37:30 > 0:37:34- All right.- You take care now. - Take care. Bye!

0:37:35 > 0:37:38Jay paid Kev £475

0:37:38 > 0:37:40to transform the trampoline.

0:37:40 > 0:37:44He sold the table for £750,

0:37:44 > 0:37:45to a private buyer,

0:37:45 > 0:37:48giving Abigail £275

0:37:48 > 0:37:51to buy a new trampoline for her kids.

0:37:51 > 0:37:52Lucky them!

0:37:56 > 0:37:58In West Sussex...

0:37:58 > 0:38:00Oli and Josh are ready to unveil

0:38:00 > 0:38:04their twisty stick chandelier to Jay.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06He's expecting a table -

0:38:06 > 0:38:10but sometimes, you just have to take what you're given.

0:38:10 > 0:38:12I hope Jay is all right with what we've made.

0:38:12 > 0:38:16- I think he's going to be a bit surprised, isn't he, cos... - I think he'll be surprised.- Yeah.

0:38:16 > 0:38:20He's expecting a table, and we've given him a chandelier. So...

0:38:20 > 0:38:21He'll definitely be surprised -

0:38:21 > 0:38:23whether it's good-surprised or bad-surprised, that's...

0:38:23 > 0:38:25Yeah, we'll find out.

0:38:25 > 0:38:27Jay gave the boys a bag of sticks,

0:38:27 > 0:38:30and free rein to do as they pleased.

0:38:30 > 0:38:33Let's see what they're giving him in return.

0:38:37 > 0:38:39Oh, my giddy aunt

0:38:39 > 0:38:41and awestruck uncle!

0:38:41 > 0:38:42This is incredible.

0:38:43 > 0:38:47Nature created the irregular elegance of the sticks,

0:38:47 > 0:38:49but the boys have created

0:38:49 > 0:38:51the perfect showcase for their beauty,

0:38:51 > 0:38:53with this incredible chandelier.

0:38:54 > 0:38:56Their interwoven stick design

0:38:56 > 0:38:59is held together by natural jute twine,

0:38:59 > 0:39:02and while it may look delicate,

0:39:02 > 0:39:05it's far from flimsy.

0:39:05 > 0:39:08The electrical fittings sit within a chestnut casing,

0:39:08 > 0:39:13and the lads have fitted bulbs that radiate a warm orange glow.

0:39:13 > 0:39:15And, of course, it has been PAT-tested

0:39:15 > 0:39:20and complies with all UK electrical safety standards.

0:39:20 > 0:39:22But no matter how good it is,

0:39:22 > 0:39:24what it's not...is a table.

0:39:26 > 0:39:29Oh, come on...

0:39:29 > 0:39:31How are you guys?

0:39:31 > 0:39:33- I can't miss it, can I?- Hello.

0:39:33 > 0:39:35Wow.

0:39:36 > 0:39:38It's definitely not a table...

0:39:38 > 0:39:40But, it's erm...

0:39:40 > 0:39:42It's amazing!

0:39:42 > 0:39:44I mean, I like it, wow!

0:39:44 > 0:39:45Oh...

0:39:46 > 0:39:48Cor blimey. I can't get over it.

0:39:48 > 0:39:50I'm trying to see how you made it.

0:39:50 > 0:39:52I can see the string, I get it.

0:39:52 > 0:39:54And...

0:39:55 > 0:39:59- I've got to shake your hand again. No, well done, well done.- Cheers.

0:39:59 > 0:40:01I'm loving it. This is, erm...

0:40:01 > 0:40:03proper amazing. It's really cool.

0:40:03 > 0:40:06- We did think about the table... - Yeah.

0:40:06 > 0:40:08That's what we said, a table. Where is it?

0:40:08 > 0:40:09Yeah, we decided against it in the end.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12- And I think we're quite happy with that decision.- Yeah.

0:40:12 > 0:40:14- It wasn't really ever going to work as a table, so...- OK.

0:40:14 > 0:40:16- I think this is better than a table, actually.- Yeah.

0:40:16 > 0:40:18And it shows the beauty of the material.

0:40:18 > 0:40:20The table, you would have had

0:40:20 > 0:40:23like, plates on it or something, it would always have been hidden, but this...

0:40:23 > 0:40:25it's just like a showcase piece, it's like...

0:40:25 > 0:40:27Wow!

0:40:27 > 0:40:29I can't get over it.

0:40:29 > 0:40:32So how did you do this, though? Really, how did you do this?

0:40:32 > 0:40:34Because obviously...this is held together, isn't it?

0:40:34 > 0:40:36- It's not glued together, is it?- No.- Is it tied?

0:40:36 > 0:40:39They're all just bound together, with string.

0:40:40 > 0:40:42So it's strong, yeah, it's not going to come apart

0:40:42 > 0:40:44if I touch it? No?

0:40:44 > 0:40:47No, no, it's pretty rigid.

0:40:47 > 0:40:50Oh, wow, yeah, you're right. Cor blimey!

0:40:50 > 0:40:52Now, that...is very clever.

0:40:52 > 0:40:54Very clever.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56All right, the next question is, how do I change a light bulb?

0:40:56 > 0:40:58THEY LAUGH

0:40:58 > 0:41:00You've got to get someone with real tiny arms!

0:41:03 > 0:41:06Josh and Oli have pulled it out the bag again.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09And this has to be one of their most imaginative creations yet.

0:41:11 > 0:41:15But what about their budget of £450 to £500,

0:41:15 > 0:41:17which was agreed for a table?

0:41:17 > 0:41:21Budget - how did we do? Cos I left you quite a big budget.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24Now it's not a table, it must be a lot cheaper. I'm talking about £20!

0:41:24 > 0:41:28- Yeah, you wish.- I know!- I think this might have been more work than a table, Jay.

0:41:28 > 0:41:30Oh-ho-ho! Steady on, lads! How much?

0:41:30 > 0:41:33No, I think if we call it 450, I think we'd be happy with that.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36Seriously, 450? For a one-off lampshade? Come on!

0:41:36 > 0:41:39I'm happy with that, that's brilliant!

0:41:39 > 0:41:42- Cool.- Cheers, Jay.- See you later, yeah?- See you later, man.- Take care.

0:41:42 > 0:41:47For Josh and Oli, it's another tip-transformation success.

0:41:47 > 0:41:50- It was good, wasn't it?- It was good. - Jay seemed really happy with it.

0:41:50 > 0:41:51And, erm...

0:41:51 > 0:41:55Yeah, we were much happier after we decided to make a chandelier

0:41:55 > 0:41:57- instead of a table.- Yeah.

0:41:57 > 0:41:59Yeah, it was definitely the right decision,

0:41:59 > 0:42:02and Jay's reaction kind of cemented that as well. So yeah, it's good.

0:42:03 > 0:42:07Colin was about to sling his prunings in the skip,

0:42:07 > 0:42:09when Jay stepped in to save them.

0:42:09 > 0:42:12I am surprised he wanted it.

0:42:12 > 0:42:14What he's going to do with it, I haven't got a clue.

0:42:14 > 0:42:17Jay's eye for a hidden gem spotted their potential,

0:42:17 > 0:42:21and Josh and Oli's skills did the rest.

0:42:22 > 0:42:26The chandelier was sold to a luxury furnishing shop in Cheltenham.

0:42:26 > 0:42:30And owner Jonathan thinks it's just what his clients are after.

0:42:30 > 0:42:32We've never seen anything like it before,

0:42:32 > 0:42:35so it'll be interesting to see who buys it.

0:42:35 > 0:42:38It's rustic but not too rustic, definite statement...

0:42:38 > 0:42:41Yeah, I can see it sitting in loads of people's houses.

0:42:42 > 0:42:45Unfortunately Colin isn't available to meet with me again,

0:42:45 > 0:42:47but I have a fantastic 50 quid profit,

0:42:47 > 0:42:50that I'll be sending on to him for his branches.

0:42:50 > 0:42:52Jay paid Josh and Oli

0:42:52 > 0:42:56£450 to transform the sticks.

0:42:56 > 0:42:59He sold the chandelier for £500 -

0:42:59 > 0:43:01turning a profit of £50,

0:43:01 > 0:43:05which, rest assured, will be making its way to Colin.

0:43:10 > 0:43:12Jay saved three pieces of junk

0:43:12 > 0:43:14that were destined to be rotting in a landfill site.

0:43:14 > 0:43:17But now, each and every one of them,

0:43:17 > 0:43:19with hard graft and creative flair,

0:43:19 > 0:43:22have been given a new lease of life.

0:43:22 > 0:43:24It takes a truly talented maker

0:43:24 > 0:43:27to turn tip finds into one-of-a-kind items.

0:43:27 > 0:43:30But Kev, Josh and Oli have pulled it out of the bag.

0:43:30 > 0:43:33They've turned my trash into hard cash.
