:00:00. > :00:27.Good evening. Wonderful to be here tonight, at the British Academy film

:00:28. > :00:31.awards, presenting two awards. First up, make-up and hair. All the

:00:32. > :00:42.nominees in this category are masters of their craft. So let's

:00:43. > :00:46.take a look at them. Doctor strange, Jerry Lee would head. Florence

:00:47. > :01:40.Foster Jenkins. And the BAFTA BAFTA goes to J. Roy

:01:41. > :01:46.Helland, Daniel Phillips, Florence Foster Jenkins. Thank you so much,

:01:47. > :01:51.Academy, I am thrilled to work in this job. Thank you Stephen, Tracy,

:01:52. > :01:56.Michael, we had great fun. I am so thrilled with this. Thank you.

:01:57. > :02:04.APPLAUSE Thank you to the Academy, and thank

:02:05. > :02:05.you, Meryl. You keep coming up with interesting characters that are just

:02:06. > :03:29.so much fun to put together. And the BAFTA is awarded to Justin

:03:30. > :03:34.Hurwitz, La La Land. Thank you to the Academy. Or Russia, either way

:03:35. > :03:38.it is an honour. It is technically a musical, so I want to share this

:03:39. > :03:47.without a credible lyricist, who wrote all of the words. To the

:03:48. > :03:50.songs, and I wish they could be here, mostly so that they could be

:03:51. > :03:54.the ones talking, and I wouldn't have to think of as much stuff to

:03:55. > :03:59.say. But this was... I remember talking a couple of years ago to

:04:00. > :04:03.somebody who came to the Baftas as part of a movie that had multiple

:04:04. > :04:06.nominations and they said one of the coolest things was getting to know

:04:07. > :04:10.multiple people who worked on the movie who you may not have known,

:04:11. > :04:13.and that is not the experience I am having because this was such an

:04:14. > :04:17.unusually collaborative movie where from the very beginning we were

:04:18. > :04:20.working under one roof and I got to see these other artists work up

:04:21. > :04:25.close. I got to see the costumes being designed, and watching them

:04:26. > :04:30.work, and I was constantly inspired by the work of these other artists,

:04:31. > :04:34.which is a cool experience for a composer in general, but to sit

:04:35. > :04:36.under the direction of Damien, who is so masterful at what he does, was

:04:37. > :04:51.really something will never forget. Tonight's nominees for costume

:04:52. > :04:55.design brought their films to life with startling colour deep

:04:56. > :04:57.brilliance, and exquisite attention to detail. Let's take a look at

:04:58. > :05:56.them. And the BAFTA is awarded to Madeline

:05:57. > :06:00.Fontaine, for Jackie. APPLAUSE

:06:01. > :06:13.. Thank you. I am so very move to be

:06:14. > :06:22.here with the wall. This evening. And so much in awe to be recognised

:06:23. > :06:27.by my fortunate peers, especially because for me, English costume

:06:28. > :06:34.designers are a gauge of quality. This movie belongs to history, and

:06:35. > :06:44.is so much embedded in our collective memory. I hope to be up

:06:45. > :06:48.to the challenge, and here I am, reassured and fulfilled. Thank you

:06:49. > :06:51.to all the talented people who supported and accompanied me in this

:06:52. > :06:59.adventure, and thank you, of course, to Natalie Portman, who gave life

:07:00. > :08:02.and grace to these costumes. Thank you.

:08:03. > :08:26.And the BAFTA is awarded to Arrival. Congratulations. Wow, this is such

:08:27. > :08:32.an honour, such an honour. Thank you so much, everyone. The story of the

:08:33. > :08:39.sound of Arrival is a little bit like the film. It ended up being an

:08:40. > :08:42.international collaboration, headed by a Montreal team, wonderful

:08:43. > :08:54.Montreal team. First, thank you to the producers, Dan Lavine, Aaron

:08:55. > :09:00.Rider, just to name a few. And that followed the team to Montreal, and

:09:01. > :09:15.took us to follow him home, and also the film is to talk about the

:09:16. > :09:22.beautiful score, by Johann Johannsson, and the lovely sound of

:09:23. > :09:26.Amy Adams. It is lovely to be here in this building, the Royal Albert

:09:27. > :09:31.Hall, for the 70th British Academy film awards. Yes, and in honour of

:09:32. > :09:36.the categories we are keeping our entries short and sweet. So let's

:09:37. > :10:30.take a look at the nominations for British short animation.

:10:31. > :11:07.Hello, my name is Nush. This is really surreal experience, all kinds

:11:08. > :11:10.of thoughts in my head right now. I haven't prepared speech, and I

:11:11. > :11:17.just... I just want to say that, as filmmakers, I realise that I have

:11:18. > :11:23.become quite shameless in the amount of favours I ask from people, and it

:11:24. > :11:30.is crazy, we borrowed some lights for three months, we kept them for

:11:31. > :11:35.ten months. And you know, that is what brought us here. So many people

:11:36. > :11:40.have just gone beyond, to help us get here. Even this dress that I am

:11:41. > :11:44.wearing tonight, someone so do it. OK, now let's take a look at the

:11:45. > :13:18.nominations for British Short film. Wow. This is incredible. This film

:13:19. > :13:29.was made by many people. Actress and executive producer, Schpat Deda, all

:13:30. > :13:32.refugees from the genocide in Kosovo. My grandmother was a refugee

:13:33. > :13:36.from the Holocaust, and I think many people here came from migrant

:13:37. > :13:42.families, and have somehow been related to the crisis of the

:13:43. > :13:46.refugees. From my perspective, and I think from all of our perspectives,

:13:47. > :13:54.being British, our heart is love. Our sole is compassion. And I think

:13:55. > :13:58.that we need that to be reflected within our government, and we need

:13:59. > :14:03.that to be reflected in our government's policy, in relation to

:14:04. > :14:06.how they deal with other countries across the Atlantic, their

:14:07. > :14:11.administrations, and not put up with any racism, homophobia, Islam

:14:12. > :14:12.phobia, or anything like that. So thank you for this. I really

:14:13. > :15:33.appreciated. Thank you. The Bafta goes to... John Gilbert.

:15:34. > :15:35.Unfortunately, John is not able to be here so we will make sure that he

:15:36. > :16:30.receives this award. And the Bafta goes to fantastic

:16:31. > :17:02.beasts. Apologies as I reach for my piece of

:17:03. > :17:08.paper. I am proud to collect this award on behalf of Stuart Craig as

:17:09. > :17:16.he unfortunately cannot be here as he is a little under the weather. We

:17:17. > :17:20.would like to thank after. Congratulation to both Anna and her

:17:21. > :17:25.lovely team. It is through devotion and hard work and so many talented

:17:26. > :17:32.people, the seemingly impossible was achieved in 12 acres of previously

:17:33. > :17:42.empty suit your lot grew into 1920s New York. The nominees for the Bafta

:17:43. > :17:52.documentary are all powerful films. There's the -- mesmerise in in

:17:53. > :19:02.different and equal measure. Let's take a look at the films. The Bafta

:19:03. > :19:29.goes to... 13. Wow, this is absolutely incredible.

:19:30. > :19:37.My name is Lisa and I had the incredible honour of working with

:19:38. > :19:42.the incredible visionary. She's so heartbroken not to be here, the only

:19:43. > :19:50.thing that would keep her from being here is that she's shooting her next

:19:51. > :19:55.film in New Zealand. Now the award for film not in the English

:19:56. > :20:00.language. It showcases some of the most inspiring work around the

:20:01. > :20:09.world. Tragedy, struggle and oppression and they also stress

:20:10. > :21:58.family and unity. Let's take a look at the nominees.

:21:59. > :22:18.Who did you say you worked for? This is my... Secretary.

:22:19. > :22:43.It is a great honour to be here with you tonight. I would like to thank

:22:44. > :22:51.the lead actor of the film... My producers, who is standing here, the

:22:52. > :22:57.incredible cast and crew that I had which is a great luck and I want to

:22:58. > :23:04.thank the distributors in the UK, they did a great job and it was a

:23:05. > :23:10.great opportunity to meet the British public. And thanks to the

:23:11. > :24:38.academy. Thank you. And the award goes to Linus Sandgren

:24:39. > :24:44.for La La Land. Thank you to the Academy. This is overwhelming and

:24:45. > :24:51.extremely generous of you. I would like to thank the entire La La Land

:24:52. > :24:57.crew. I think this was a film made with an exceptional amount of, you

:24:58. > :25:04.know, craftsmanship and first of all I want to thank Damian, you are a

:25:05. > :25:15.great romantic heart and passion for film and filmmaking and for the

:25:16. > :25:16.friendship. I want to thank Emma and Brian for your brilliant

:25:17. > :25:48.performances. I am sure, like me,

:25:49. > :25:52.many of you will be glad to see It was cold for many,

:25:53. > :25:57.there was a lot of cloud around. And we closed out the second half

:25:58. > :26:02.of the weekens ona similar story -
