:00:25. > :00:28.This programme contains strong Hello and welcome to Film 2012 with

:00:28. > :00:32.me, Claudia Winkleman. And me, Danny Leigh. We are live and if you

:00:32. > :00:38.want to get in touch, please tweet or e-mail.

:00:38. > :00:46.On tonight's show: Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones find

:00:46. > :00:49.breaking up is hard to do in Celeste And Jesse Forever.

:00:49. > :00:59.totally fine. And Charlotte Rampling falls for

:00:59. > :01:05.

:01:05. > :01:11.crumpled cop Gabriel Byrne in I, Plus, Kristin Scott Thomas in

:01:11. > :01:12.French thriller Love Crime. And Chris Hewitt is here with his top

:01:12. > :01:15.five psychopaths. First tonight, romantic comedy

:01:15. > :01:25.Celeste And Jesse Forever, co- written by and starring Rashida

:01:25. > :01:25.

:01:25. > :01:29.Jones. You guys have been separated for six months. You're getting

:01:29. > :01:33.divorced, and you spend every day together as if it is no big deal.

:01:33. > :01:43.We are separated, and we are friends. It is the perfect break up

:01:43. > :01:44.

:01:44. > :01:52.of. She is so angry. She is uber- angry. You are acute. Love you.

:01:52. > :01:56.Love you. You and Jessie are clearly not ready to let go of the

:01:56. > :02:03.job of. You should start a bidding. I am trying. I have a date tonight.

:02:03. > :02:10.My next is here. You should leave her. This is going to be hard to

:02:10. > :02:20.believe. But I met another person. What? I am sorry, so lest. Are you

:02:20. > :02:20.

:02:20. > :02:23.OK? I am totally fine. I do having regrets about Jessie? One? No.

:02:23. > :02:32.you ever need it somebody to be with you and hold you and caress

:02:32. > :02:41.you, I could be that guy. No. Of good. Did you even though he was

:02:41. > :02:51.seeing someone? The barely knows her. I am not gay. I know, I meant

:02:51. > :03:01.a boy. Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy? For do you

:03:01. > :03:13.

:03:13. > :03:18.love her? You are my best friend. She obviously has an amazing fringe.

:03:18. > :03:22.What did you think of the film a? Despite the title, this is a film

:03:22. > :03:25.about one person, and that is Rashida Jones. It is such a

:03:25. > :03:31.showcase for their talents that by the end, you expect her to be doing

:03:31. > :03:36.handstands. I did not stay for the credits, so maybe that happened.

:03:36. > :03:40.did, and if she didn't sing songs from Annie. He doesn't like the sun

:03:40. > :03:44.will come out tomorrow? At is a genuine question. My problem is

:03:44. > :03:52.that she is incredibly watchable and so is he, but it is utterly

:03:52. > :03:55.unrealistic. These people keep going like that. I think it is a

:03:55. > :03:59.heart. They are so irritating. You would think they would still be

:03:59. > :04:05.together, and then they are not. It is meant to be a rom-com, but I did

:04:05. > :04:08.not find any of it believable. is frustrating, because there are

:04:08. > :04:13.so many times here where it is better than the average rom-com.

:04:13. > :04:18.You get nuggets of originality, but you also get these huge lumps of

:04:18. > :04:22.cliche. At those moments, it is as average as the average rom-com. You

:04:23. > :04:26.can almost see Rashida Jones morph before your eyes into this

:04:26. > :04:35.nightmarish combination of Jennifer Aniston and Reece Witherspoon. I

:04:35. > :04:38.hesitate to say this, but also Catherine Hegel. Also, there was a

:04:38. > :04:43.sub-plot with Willey, played by Emma Robert. She was perfectly good,

:04:43. > :04:48.but none of it was believable. Maybe that is what happens in LA,

:04:48. > :04:51.that she is suddenly looking after Britney Spears. None of that

:04:51. > :04:56.happens. I don't think we should be blase about what is good about this

:04:56. > :05:00.film, because a lot of it is sharply written. She is an

:05:00. > :05:04.interesting character, because she is not particularly cute or

:05:04. > :05:08.Adorable. There is a wistful tone to a lot of it, but you expect more.

:05:08. > :05:13.People will have seen Rashida Jones here and there. She is a face to

:05:13. > :05:17.watch, but this is a disappointment. If you were to go on a date with

:05:17. > :05:25.this movie, you would probably not do a runner while it was in the

:05:25. > :05:28.bathroom, but you would ignore its text the following day.

:05:28. > :05:34.Next, blag, the seven psychopath, a writer-director Martin McDonagh's

:05:34. > :05:38.follow-up to the hugely successful In Bruges. The way you are feeling

:05:38. > :05:42.today, depressed and alcoholic, you should put it into your writing.

:05:42. > :05:48.is kind of a black comedy about a guy trying to make -- write a

:05:48. > :05:55.script called Seven Psychopaths. am sick of these stereotypical such

:05:55. > :06:02.a bad movies. He wants the film to be about peace and love, but it has

:06:02. > :06:09.to be about Seven Psychopaths, so he is in a quandary. Life-affirming.

:06:09. > :06:13.But it is about seven fucking psychopaths! And his friends have a

:06:13. > :06:17.kidnapping scheme. Billy has this scam going on where he kidnaps a

:06:17. > :06:22.dog and takes it home and whizz until posters are put up and then

:06:22. > :06:32.he brings it back and receives the $200 award. At a one-day, he steals

:06:32. > :06:34.

:06:34. > :06:36.a little shit soup dog and it belongs to a dangerous man who.

:06:36. > :06:42.are you? They said they were looking for a little dog, and then

:06:42. > :06:47.another punk killed those punks. you want to go to the bathroom and

:06:47. > :06:52.clean some of the blood and Duke of? It does completely obey the

:06:52. > :06:56.rules of guns and violence and the usual gangster movie. But as we go

:06:56. > :07:02.through, I hope the nature of wanting to get away from that

:07:02. > :07:10.becomes more evident. A put your hands up. No. But I have got a gun.

:07:10. > :07:14.I don't care. How about we changed the title from Seven Psychopaths to

:07:14. > :07:21.seven lesbians? There is a friend who just wants to help his friend

:07:21. > :07:27.write the script. We could take on the bad guys in a desert. What

:07:27. > :07:34.about in real life? But his version of a good script will not be the

:07:34. > :07:40.same as Colin's version. shootings or pay-offs, just human

:07:40. > :07:46.beings talking. Are we making French movies now? He would be a

:07:46. > :07:54.terrible writer, Billy, as we see in the campfire scene. I like it.

:07:54. > :08:01.It has got layers. Are you going to cry? By just think it is a really

:08:01. > :08:05.funny script, very imaginative. have to get this dog off the street.

:08:05. > :08:09.The every now and then, you read something and it jumps off the page.

:08:09. > :08:14.This one slaps you around the face and gives you a kick in the arse.

:08:14. > :08:19.It takes you on a wonderful ride. An eye for an eye leaves the whole

:08:19. > :08:23.world blind. And it, there will be one guy left with one eye. How is

:08:23. > :08:27.the last blind guy going to take out the eye of the last guy left?

:08:27. > :08:32.Well, if Seven Psychopaths was even half as good as it thinks it is, it

:08:32. > :08:37.would be the greatest movie ever made. As it is, it is half a lot of

:08:37. > :08:43.fun and half a kind of lazy mess. It is blood-soaked and filled with

:08:43. > :08:46.in-jokes. When it works, it works because of Christopher Walken, who

:08:46. > :08:53.sidesteps onto the stage as a dog thief in a cravat and dancers off

:08:53. > :08:58.with the movie. He is a joy and a treasure. There are 30 minutes here

:08:58. > :09:01.of Manichean durable stuff. But what audiences are supposed to give

:09:01. > :09:08.the remaining one hour and ten minutes, I don't know. I thought it

:09:08. > :09:13.was drivel. I don't use that word enough. Maybe I am being harsh.

:09:13. > :09:19.Christopher Walken is good, but the rest is nonsense. It thinks it is

:09:19. > :09:25.clever. Because In Bruges was so fantastic, my expectations were

:09:25. > :09:31.probably too high. I thought they were going to create this magical

:09:31. > :09:37.thing. The actors are good. The script, I did not understand. Like

:09:37. > :09:41.Celeste And Jesse Forever, it did not feel real. You have an out of

:09:41. > :09:45.work screen writer and an out-of- work actor. They have drinks and

:09:45. > :09:50.they have flats with huge windows. I was on Woody Hulse and's side and

:09:50. > :09:54.I wanted them to die. You are being uncharacteristically cutting. I

:09:54. > :09:58.agree with you about In Bruges. You feel like an anxious parent on

:09:58. > :10:02.Sportsday. You are willing this film to be better than it is

:10:02. > :10:07.because of In Bruges. I like it more than you, but I concede that

:10:07. > :10:13.in In Bruges, Colin Farrell is the funny guy. Here, he is the straight

:10:13. > :10:18.man. Colin Farrell is not, in a professional context, a straight

:10:19. > :10:23.man. And that is a huge headache. Abbey Cornish is in it for eight

:10:23. > :10:28.seconds and then makes a joke about the women getting killed. That is

:10:28. > :10:32.not enough. Secondly, there are massive signposts, going, somebody

:10:32. > :10:42.is going to mention the credits, and then the credits happen. It is

:10:42. > :10:47.not good. Let me finish. It is all about the dialogue. So was In

:10:47. > :10:50.Bruges. Sometimes in In Bruges, you have a dialogue where it feels like

:10:50. > :10:55.you are over here in two digs in a pub and they happen to be having a

:10:55. > :11:00.hilarious conversation. Other times, you are just overhearing two digs

:11:00. > :11:03.in a pub, and the film can't always tell the difference. We have had

:11:03. > :11:08.one tweet saying it is a pointless waste of time. But somebody else

:11:08. > :11:12.loved it. Nice commentary on Hollywood and violence in film, too.

:11:12. > :11:16.I think this film and Celeste And Jesse Forever should go on a date

:11:16. > :11:26.together and then go home and have sex while thinking about themselves.

:11:26. > :11:43.

:11:43. > :11:49.Hello and welcome, Chris. Nice Did you love soccer baths? I did,

:11:49. > :11:57.but it also kept me awake at night thinking of other names. There are

:11:57. > :12:03.so many to choose from. What makes a great psychopath? I wrote some

:12:03. > :12:07.doubt, characteristics. Manipulative, impulsive - sorry,

:12:07. > :12:12.that is describing me. Basically, people not afraid to break the law

:12:12. > :12:17.or people not afraid to kill. But I wanted a movie cycle paths, not a

:12:17. > :12:21.real-life psychopaths or obvious choices. And that is clever. As you

:12:21. > :12:25.can imagine, there is violence, nudity and strong language in some

:12:25. > :12:31.of these clips. If you are easily offended, but the bed. These are

:12:31. > :12:35.psychopaths. Have a nap. At number five? Not all movie psychopaths

:12:35. > :12:40.should be genuinely chilling. Most of these people, you don't want to

:12:40. > :12:45.be stuck in a lift or a car with them. This guy is hilarious. It is

:12:45. > :12:55.Bennett from Commando, has played by Vernon Wells. Lovely moustache.

:12:55. > :13:07.

:13:07. > :13:17.He wants to kill Arnold John, I'm not going to shoot you

:13:17. > :13:17.

:13:17. > :13:25.between the eyes. I will shoot you between the balls! Let off some

:13:25. > :13:32.steam, Bennett. Vernon Wells started out as a male

:13:32. > :13:40.model. Up modelling what, we can only guess. And such a beautiful

:13:41. > :13:47.segue into the next psychopath. what way? Tell me. What is number

:13:47. > :13:51.four? Number four is Silence Of The Lambs, but not Hannibal Lecter.

:13:51. > :13:58.That has been done. And if you met Hannibal Lecter, he might kill you,

:13:58. > :14:02.but you would have a good time. Bit of culture, opera, a nice meal. But

:14:02. > :14:06.Buffalo Bill, Jame Gumb, is terrifying. He is a complete

:14:06. > :14:16.psychopath. He will put you down a well and cut off your skin and

:14:16. > :14:49.

:14:49. > :14:51.dance around and get naked. It is A brilliant choice, truly

:14:51. > :14:58.terrifying because there is no reasoning with him.

:14:58. > :15:02.No, nonepm. Psycho paths don't want a chat. Others, you think if I made

:15:02. > :15:07.a toasted sandwich. It is one of the many advantages of going out at

:15:07. > :15:12.4am, we can have that clip. Who hasn't done that? Who hasn't

:15:12. > :15:22.indeed? Well, me! What's your next clip? My next clip

:15:22. > :15:22.

:15:22. > :15:32.is, not a supernatural figure and this is John Ryder in The Hitcher.

:15:32. > :15:35.

:15:35. > :15:43.And he wants someone to stop him. You want to know what happens to an

:15:43. > :15:48.eyeball when it gets punctured? Have you got any idea how much

:15:48. > :15:58.blood jets out of a guy's neck when his floodlight has been slit?

:15:58. > :15:59.

:16:00. > :16:06.do you want? Not the best drive of your life

:16:06. > :16:10.that. Let's go to Twitter. They have

:16:10. > :16:16.picked up on something that needs addressing here. You You talked

:16:16. > :16:26.about tucking. There is a lack of female psycho ins your list -- fibg

:16:26. > :16:30.owes in your -- psychoes in your list. They mentioned Misery. Glen

:16:30. > :16:36.Close in Fatal Attraction. From you... Most serial killers are male.

:16:36. > :16:46.So my list reflects that. Have you go home tonight and find

:16:46. > :16:52.

:16:52. > :16:57.your ankles slashed. What's your next clip? It is Robert

:16:57. > :17:04.Mitchum as halfy Powell. Here is a clip.

:17:04. > :17:13.John told a lie. The Lord is talking to me now. He

:17:13. > :17:23.is saying a lie is an abomination before my eyes. Speak boy. Speak.

:17:23. > :17:32.

:17:32. > :17:36.Speak or I'll cut your throat. up. Save him. The doll.

:17:36. > :17:41.Now that's the film that should be on after the Queen's Speech annual

:17:41. > :17:51.tradition after tradition across the country.

:17:51. > :17:52.

:17:52. > :17:58.Tell us about The Simpsons. In the great episode Great Fear. Simp

:17:58. > :18:08.Simpsons characters only have three fingers.

:18:08. > :18:12.

:18:12. > :18:22.What's your number one? I assumed it would be Darf? Who is your

:18:22. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :18:27.number one? It is not Darf Vader. It is Good Fellows.

:18:27. > :18:32.You have met somebody like this? have met somebody like this.

:18:32. > :18:37.Stop going out. Move in with me. All of a sudden,

:18:37. > :18:40.you are having a laugh and Danny will say something and the

:18:40. > :18:45.atmosphere will change. Let's have a chip.

:18:45. > :18:50.You are -- clip. You are a funny guy.

:18:50. > :18:57.You are just funny. It is the way you tell the story and everything.

:18:57. > :19:06.Funny, how? I mean, what's funny about it? Anthony, he is a big boy,

:19:06. > :19:14.he knows what he said. Funny, how? What? Just, you're funny.

:19:14. > :19:21.Let me understand this. Maybe my memory is fucked up, like funny how,

:19:21. > :19:29.like and I am a clown, I am here to fuck and amuse you? How am I funny?

:19:29. > :19:35.You know how you tell the story. No, no, you said I'm funny. How the

:19:35. > :19:44.fuck am I funny? Tell me what's funny?

:19:44. > :19:51.Best choice in the world. How many times did did Joe Pesci

:19:51. > :20:01.have somebody come up to him in the street? You are brilliant. Bold

:20:01. > :20:02.

:20:02. > :20:09.choices. I admire Animals are Horrified. I really want a Frank

:20:09. > :20:15.Booth. A self imposed rule, I said no Frank Booth.

:20:15. > :20:17.Flawless top five. Flawless. Next, Kristin Scott Thomas stars as

:20:17. > :20:27.a ruthless business woman in the French psychological thriller, Love

:20:27. > :20:27.

:20:27. > :21:23.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:21:23. > :21:29.Well Love Crime is the kind of thriller where everyone involved

:21:29. > :21:35.seems to live in a show show home. It has a nice slow burn quality to

:21:35. > :21:39.it and by the end, the director wouldn't be ashamed to put his name

:21:39. > :21:46.to. My only problem with it, it does have the most appalling

:21:46. > :21:53.soundtrack. There is a honking musician who plays over entire

:21:54. > :21:57.scenes and if the world's worst busker is on set and they can't

:21:57. > :22:01.restrain him. I really enjoyed it. I thought both

:22:01. > :22:06.girls were really, really good. It reminded me a lot of Damages if you

:22:06. > :22:12.have seen that and Rose Burn and Glen Close. I loved it, my problem

:22:12. > :22:17.was the last 30 seconds of the film where for me, it just turned into

:22:17. > :22:20.mayhem. Listen, if people are going to go and see this film and they

:22:20. > :22:24.should if they fancy it, they have to accept certain things. Touf work

:22:24. > :22:34.with it -- you have to work with it and you have to accept for the plot

:22:34. > :22:41.

:22:41. > :22:47.to function the police force has to be employing the sons of Inspector

:22:47. > :22:51.Cluso. It has been remade already.

:22:51. > :22:55.That's quick. It is under the title of Passion.

:22:55. > :23:00.It is a lot more unhinged and more sleazy.

:23:00. > :23:04.And in a good way. I I like that and I liked both

:23:04. > :23:07.films. Love Crime is released on Friday,

:23:07. > :23:10.14th December. Next, Charlotte Rampling and

:23:10. > :23:17.Gabriel Byrne in I, Anna, a noir thriller written and directed by

:23:17. > :23:24.Rampling's son Barnaby Southcombe. This is your first time.

:23:24. > :23:29.Is it obvious? Have we met before? We seem -- you seem familiar?

:23:30. > :23:36.Sunday morning at the Barbican. haven't seen you at the Barbican

:23:36. > :23:41.for years. You must have the wrong woman. It is a noir thriller. There

:23:41. > :23:46.is a psychological aspect. There is a murder investigative aspect, but

:23:46. > :23:50.really it is exploring the themes of loneliness and that's really

:23:50. > :23:52.what drew me to it and the story of this woman and this time in her

:23:52. > :23:56.life. You won't really know what is going

:23:56. > :24:00.on and hopefully you will be intrigued and you will want to

:24:00. > :24:06.follow the story, I guess you could say she is a woman on the edge, but

:24:06. > :24:10.you don't know if it is that or just an impression.

:24:10. > :24:14.Detective chief inspector to be precise, though I do more

:24:14. > :24:21.shovelling of papers these days than I do.

:24:21. > :24:24.I see it now. The sleuth thing, not the shovelling.

:24:24. > :24:28.Loneliness means you are not happy being on your own and there is no

:24:28. > :24:33.way that anybody seems to be able to come into your space and make it

:24:33. > :24:43.feel better. They are two people who are lost in their own

:24:43. > :24:47.

:24:47. > :24:53.# Oh tonight # Oh tonight #

:24:53. > :24:59.I sent the script to her agent and just because it was such a kind of

:24:59. > :25:05.important thing for me to do and the idea of her saying no to it was

:25:05. > :25:10.just too much to bear. He sent it to my agent, because he

:25:10. > :25:15.did send a draft idea of this story to me about a year-and-a-half which

:25:15. > :25:18.I really didn't like. She has been frank and brutal with things I have

:25:18. > :25:27.done in the past so I was kind of expecting this strong and direct

:25:27. > :25:34.reaction, but thankfully we ended up getting a positive reaction.

:25:34. > :25:41.So did Allegra get lucky? You say like that it is easy.

:25:41. > :25:48.Mum, you have to get out more. It is a good looking movie and it

:25:48. > :25:53.has bags and bags of atmosphere. I think there can be such a thing as

:25:53. > :25:56.an excess of style if a film that's that's too stylish and I think it

:25:56. > :26:04.falls into that trap. I know you are much keener.
