0:00:24 > 0:00:27Hello there, and welcome to Film 2018.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31I'm Clara Amfo - long time no see.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34You are looking good!

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Tonight we're back with the glitz and glamour,

0:00:36 > 0:00:37bells and whistles of the Oscars.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Are you a Lady Bird fan?

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Or do you prefer your entertainment wet and watery - sounds wrong -

0:00:53 > 0:00:55with Guillermo Del Toro's "The Shape of Water"?

0:00:55 > 0:00:58Let us know - details on the screen now.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59Right, let's kick things off.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03Coming up tonight...

0:01:03 > 0:01:08Winners, losers, tantrums and tiaras. Brace yourself... We are

0:01:08 > 0:01:15going headlong into the Oscars 2018...Victory at all costs!Going

0:01:15 > 0:01:20for gold with Greta Gerwig. Could she be the second woman to win Best

0:01:20 > 0:01:28Director for her debut film Lady Bebb?Saying it out loud seems like

0:01:28 > 0:01:32bad luck.Who are you wearing? Hollywood calls time on business as

0:01:32 > 0:01:39usual after Weinstein.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Well if it's intelligence, glamour and a slight whiff

0:01:46 > 0:01:49of nerdiness you're after look no further - Hollywood has nothing

0:01:49 > 0:01:51on these two excellent specimens gracing the Film Show sofa tonight.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Say hello to critic Larushka Ivan Zadeh and new film

0:01:54 > 0:01:59show regular the brilliant Ellen E Jones.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Hello...

0:02:02 > 0:02:06Are you getting at the bookies on Oscars night? What are you doing?I

0:02:06 > 0:02:11tend to stay up but my ritual is you go to bed and you wake up the next

0:02:11 > 0:02:14morning, it is like Christmas! You look at your phone and it's the best

0:02:14 > 0:02:19night of the year.A late night but an early catch up!I usually don't

0:02:19 > 0:02:22stay up, I try and catch at the next day but this year I am so excited,

0:02:22 > 0:02:27it will be so good that I might try and pull an all nighter! Are we

0:02:27 > 0:02:33secretly hoping for a La La Land and moonlight mishap? Not so is said --

0:02:33 > 0:02:36not so secretly!

0:02:36 > 0:02:38On Sunday the Oscars celebrate their 90th year.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41That's 90 years of tearful speeches and oh so sincere smiles

0:02:41 > 0:02:42from bitter and twisted losers.

0:02:42 > 0:02:442018 promises to be quite the birthday for this golden

0:02:44 > 0:02:46nonagenarian so it's time to get prepped.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49Here's your whistle-stop Oscar night cheat sheet and it includes

0:02:49 > 0:02:56some strong language.

0:02:56 > 0:03:01Uncle Oscar may be getting old but he still knows how to surprise us...

0:03:01 > 0:03:05I keep saying to myself that there is an outside chance... The winner

0:03:05 > 0:03:12is Robert De Niro! You like me!Is the first time I've had one of these

0:03:12 > 0:03:18in my name. Brace yourself... It is the 90th Academy Awards. In three,

0:03:18 > 0:03:25two, one...

0:03:25 > 0:03:29two, one...Jimbo, hit the lights! This year, the best picture race is

0:03:29 > 0:03:34wide open...

0:03:34 > 0:03:37wide open...Guillermo Del Toro's romance The Shape of Water steams

0:03:37 > 0:03:42ahead with 13 nominations... Hot on its slippery heels is Dunkirk with

0:03:42 > 0:03:53H...There is no hiding from this. The BAFTA favourite, Three

0:03:53 > 0:03:56Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, has seven. Including a nod for the

0:03:56 > 0:04:00hotly tipped Frances McDormand, aiming for her second statuette for

0:04:00 > 0:04:04Best Actress... But this year it is out with the old and in with the

0:04:04 > 0:04:14new...Sink into the floor... Sink. Fresh talent dominates the major

0:04:14 > 0:04:17categories. First-time director Jordan Peele owning an Oscar nod for

0:04:17 > 0:04:25his horror film, yet out. As does its British star, Daniel Kaluuya.

0:04:25 > 0:04:3322-year-old Timothy shall make and his first acting not for the

0:04:37 > 0:04:43bittersweet -- Timothee Chalamet has been nominated for his film. The

0:04:43 > 0:04:52movie Lady Bird earns young veteran Saoirse Ronan her third nomination.

0:04:52 > 0:04:57Watch out for the new kids. Some of favourites can miss out. Sorry, you

0:04:57 > 0:05:01get nothing for thriller All the Money in the World.Nobody has been

0:05:01 > 0:05:11richer than you are at the moment. Steven Spielberg is up -- misses out

0:05:11 > 0:05:16for The Post but have no fear, some things never change. We cannot hold

0:05:16 > 0:05:21them accountable if we do not have the newspaper.Oscar Queen Meryl

0:05:21 > 0:05:25Streep, other actresses are available, earns a 21st nomination

0:05:25 > 0:05:28and a departing Oscar King, Daniel Day Lewis, could pick up his fourth

0:05:28 > 0:05:37Best Actor award for Phantom Thread. There is nothing the Academy love

0:05:37 > 0:05:41more than transformation. Enter Churchill biopic, the Darkest Hour.

0:05:41 > 0:05:48Hot favourite for Best Actor, Gary Oldman.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52Oldman. With all of this year 's Hollywood controversy, will the

0:05:52 > 0:05:57Academy play it safe? These days have to be over.Or will they shake

0:05:57 > 0:06:04things up and throw in some surprise twists? If there is one thing 90

0:06:04 > 0:06:09years of Oscar ceremonies have taught us...The Academy award...Is

0:06:09 > 0:06:13that anything is possible.

0:06:13 > 0:06:17STUDIO: I still shudder at that but I secretly live for it! That was the

0:06:17 > 0:06:22Oscars last year. What about 2018, has it been the best year for movies

0:06:22 > 0:06:26yet?I think it has been the best year for the Oscars. A couple of

0:06:26 > 0:06:31years ago we thought that we were moving into irrelevance. There was

0:06:31 > 0:06:35the hashtag for "Oscar so white". Now, they have pulled something out

0:06:35 > 0:06:39of the bag. They have fresh voices and fresh talent and they are

0:06:39 > 0:06:44relevant again.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49relevant again. This year we will find out whether it was a really

0:06:49 > 0:06:51embarrassing night for Warren Beatty or something that will go down in

0:06:51 > 0:06:53movie history, when Hollywood changed forever. Was Moonlight a

0:06:53 > 0:06:55fluke or does the Academy recognise movies that are more representative

0:06:55 > 0:06:59of where we are in society now.It feels like a shift is happening. And

0:06:59 > 0:07:04you can see it in the nominees for best picture. You have the old

0:07:04 > 0:07:10school movies like Darkest Hour, with Gary Oldman in his make-up, and

0:07:10 > 0:07:16you have writers being noble in The Post, Hollywood loves that. You have

0:07:16 > 0:07:21Lady Bird and between there is Three Billboards And The Shape of Water.

0:07:21 > 0:07:25It is all there.Whether any pictures that you felt should have

0:07:25 > 0:07:32been nominated, what about surprise snobs?We are a bit disappointed

0:07:32 > 0:07:42that Mudbound didn't get more nominations, it was

0:07:42 > 0:07:45nominations, it was directed by an outstanding director. And Mary J

0:07:45 > 0:07:51Blige.Would have liked to have seen more love for the Florida product.

0:07:51 > 0:07:58The lead actress was great, so funny. What stood out for you?

0:07:58 > 0:08:02Christopher Plummer for getting Best Supporting Actor, not just because

0:08:02 > 0:08:06he is Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of music, but All the Money in the

0:08:06 > 0:08:10World, the thriller with Ridley Scott, the Kevin Spacey scandal hit

0:08:10 > 0:08:14weeks before it was to be released. So Ridley Scott cut him out

0:08:14 > 0:08:17completely and replaced him with Christopher Plummer. It was a sign

0:08:17 > 0:08:22of people going, we do not tolerate this, we will clamp down on this

0:08:22 > 0:08:24kind of sexual abuse. It set an interesting president about what

0:08:24 > 0:08:28will happen with other movies similarly afflicted with other

0:08:28 > 0:08:31actors accused of this, that and the other.Christopher Plummer is almost

0:08:31 > 0:08:37as old

0:08:37 > 0:08:43as the Oscars at 89, and the Oscars in its 19th year.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46So clearly in any other year we'd all be sat here talking

0:08:46 > 0:08:48about Guillermo Del Toro's 'The Shape Of Water'

0:08:48 > 0:08:49with its 13 nominations.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52But this year all bets are off as there's really is only one topic

0:08:52 > 0:08:53of awkward conversation.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55Seems post Weinstein, Hollywood and the Oscars

0:08:55 > 0:08:56are struggling with business as usual.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Several allegations of sexual harassment against movie producer

0:08:58 > 0:09:03Harvey Weinstein...The list of women accusing him is growing.His

0:09:03 > 0:09:08employment was terminated...Three allegations of rape...Being

0:09:08 > 0:09:13investigated by police in London and New York. Was it an open secret? It

0:09:13 > 0:09:18was the week that changed Hollywood. It started with several brave women

0:09:18 > 0:09:23talking to the New York Times. My sister-in-law, Laura, was one of the

0:09:23 > 0:09:27first four women who outed him in the New York Times. She was very

0:09:27 > 0:09:31brave, she was his assistant 20 years ago. She never mentioned

0:09:31 > 0:09:35anything. I knew nothing about it even though I'm very close to her.

0:09:35 > 0:09:39Harvey Weinstein was probably the most influential producer working in

0:09:39 > 0:09:43Hollywood for the last three decades. It aspires to him that

0:09:43 > 0:09:47people like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Quentin Tarantino,

0:09:47 > 0:09:52that they are as famous they are today. When I came into the film

0:09:52 > 0:09:56industry, he was the person to know. Of course, we had all heard rumours

0:09:56 > 0:10:01about him but nothing on the scale that has come to light. This is the

0:10:01 > 0:10:05biggest Hollywood scandal since the Blacklist when Hollywood

0:10:05 > 0:10:08screenwriters and actors were outed as communists. The reason this will

0:10:08 > 0:10:13be so big is because it involved so many people. When Paltrow, Angelina

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Jolie, all of them stood up to say that they had been harassed or

0:10:17 > 0:10:22assaulted by Harvey Weinstein. These are not women who can be dismissed.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25It didn't just stop with Harvey Weinstein...Fairly soon after

0:10:25 > 0:10:32Harvey Weinstein, we heard Kevin Spacey had been alleged with sexual

0:10:32 > 0:10:36misconduct. And Dustin Hoffman...At the moment there have been 122

0:10:36 > 0:10:39high-profile men accused of harassment or assault. The link

0:10:39 > 0:10:43between these men is obviously power, wealth and influence. Nobody

0:10:43 > 0:10:47could stop these men. They were simply too powerful to stand up

0:10:47 > 0:10:52against anti-big to fail until it turned out that they were not...

0:10:52 > 0:10:59Soon, the hashtag #MeToo became a rallying cry against sexual assault

0:10:59 > 0:11:02and harassment.#MeToo was a powerful moment for women. A lot of

0:11:02 > 0:11:06the men in my life who were extremely liberal and would call

0:11:06 > 0:11:08themselves feminists said that they did not know. They did not know that

0:11:08 > 0:11:13it happened to every woman.The hashtag absolutely represents a

0:11:13 > 0:11:19collective of voices coming together and saying no more.Meanwhile, the

0:11:19 > 0:11:23women of Hollywood were setting up the Time's Up camping and using

0:11:23 > 0:11:28their

0:11:28 > 0:11:32their fame to get it noticed -- campaign.Definitely before the

0:11:32 > 0:11:36Golden Globes, I got e-mails from different girlfriends in the

0:11:36 > 0:11:40business talking about everyone wearing black. To the Golden Globes

0:11:40 > 0:11:45as a visual sign of solidarity for all of the women coming forward with

0:11:45 > 0:11:50their stories and being very brave. We wanted to show our support.Men

0:11:50 > 0:11:55wearing their little badges, it is beautiful but it would be more

0:11:55 > 0:11:59beautiful if these men stood up and acknowledged how much they have

0:11:59 > 0:12:03benefited from a system of patriarch year and sexism in the industry. One

0:12:03 > 0:12:07of the things that men can do is listen. Just listen to when women

0:12:07 > 0:12:11are talking. Right now, women are talking. We really need to shut up

0:12:11 > 0:12:19and listen for once. However, it was big or systemic problems like equal

0:12:19 > 0:12:22pay and lack of representation that soon came to dominate the

0:12:22 > 0:12:27conversation.Last year only 8% of the top 100 grossing films in

0:12:27 > 0:12:30Hollywood were directed by women, even though some of the most

0:12:30 > 0:12:34successful films last year were directed by women, like Wonder

0:12:34 > 0:12:41Woman.I think what is really important now is that we see more

0:12:41 > 0:12:49women being decision-makers. In the industry. And being employed on the

0:12:52 > 0:12:56crews onset. On a selfish level, it makes for great films. Lady Bird is

0:12:56 > 0:13:01proof of that, it's a woman telling her own story and because we are not

0:13:01 > 0:13:06used to seeing that, it feels very fresh. My name is Lady Bird. It's

0:13:06 > 0:13:13weird, you shake hands.Yes.The more women we see as barristers and

0:13:13 > 0:13:17journalists on screen, that will be reflected back in the culture.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20Audiences are hungry, they are hungry for female stories. I feel

0:13:20 > 0:13:24there is real appetite for change from the audience and when that

0:13:24 > 0:13:27happens and they vote with their money at the box office, they vote

0:13:27 > 0:13:30with their ratings on the television. That is when change

0:13:30 > 0:13:34happens.It is ground shifting. We are in the middle of an earthquake

0:13:34 > 0:13:44and things are changing and I think it is about time.Come on!

0:13:46 > 0:13:50Right on, Allison Janney! Is there a cultural shift or is it just a

0:13:50 > 0:13:54hashtag?It is a gender quake! I feel it's an exciting time as a

0:13:54 > 0:13:58female movie lover as much as a commentator on film. The ground is

0:13:58 > 0:14:02shifting, things are moving so fast at the moment. I don't believe it is

0:14:02 > 0:14:04just the Harvey Weinstein allegations in October and since

0:14:04 > 0:14:09then there has been such a shift. Every single award ceremony has

0:14:09 > 0:14:11acknowledged this in some way, whether it is the black dress on the

0:14:11 > 0:14:17carpet or

0:14:17 > 0:14:18carpet or speeches on the night, everything acknowledging that.I

0:14:18 > 0:14:21want to be the voice urging some caution. All of these stories have

0:14:21 > 0:14:23in common the fundamental power imbalance which is gendered. We see

0:14:23 > 0:14:28it outside of Hollywood. #MeToo started outside of Hollywood. We

0:14:28 > 0:14:32know things are really change when we see more women in positions of

0:14:32 > 0:14:35power behind and in front of the camera. It hasn't happened yet.

0:14:35 > 0:14:39Octavia Spencer tells a good story about how her and Jessica Chastain

0:14:39 > 0:14:44work together to get a pay rise. It is a good example of how talking the

0:14:44 > 0:14:48talk leads to walking the walk.Of course,

0:14:48 > 0:14:50Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain are a good example of the

0:14:50 > 0:14:57intersexual issue in Hollywood and between race and gender. Audience

0:14:57 > 0:15:00change narrative of what they choose to go and see at the cinema. With

0:15:00 > 0:15:04their money. We saw it with Wonder Woman and Black Panther. With how

0:15:04 > 0:15:09much value there is in being represented when you are not a white

0:15:09 > 0:15:12male, essentially.Yes, it isn't just representation on screen but

0:15:12 > 0:15:20behind the screen. We had controversy surrounding Buffy, but

0:15:20 > 0:15:23standing back and saying, not the one to tell this story... And you

0:15:23 > 0:15:27go, wouldn't it be great if Batgirl was directed and told by a woman

0:15:27 > 0:15:33like Wonder Woman. And the films being nominated, that nomination

0:15:33 > 0:15:39increases the box office, in blunt terms. With Lady Bird, more men will

0:15:39 > 0:15:42be going to see that film because it is nominated and it's a big deal.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44The Oscars can help in

0:15:44 > 0:15:47that way as well. The speeches will be pretty charged this year.

0:15:47 > 0:15:52Everyone will be talking about that. And the red carpet will relate to

0:15:52 > 0:15:55that. The Academy is changing. They are trying to change their

0:15:55 > 0:16:01membership up. At the last count they got a membership of 8247.

0:16:01 > 0:16:05That's just my count, I could be wrong(!) They've really tried in the

0:16:05 > 0:16:11last couple of years to get more mixed members, and we address the

0:16:11 > 0:16:15gender and ethnic balance but if you look at the percentage of Oscar

0:16:15 > 0:16:22voters, at 73% male and 83% white, it is slowly changing and moving in

0:16:22 > 0:16:27the right direction. We are getting there. It is happening! The

0:16:27 > 0:16:29earthquake is happening, you can feel it.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32So it's clear if Hollywood really wants to really embrace change,

0:16:32 > 0:16:35it'll have to start offering the keys to the kingdom to newer,

0:16:35 > 0:16:36more diverse talent.

0:16:36 > 0:16:39With five nominations for her first film "Lady Bird" -

0:16:39 > 0:16:47Greta Gerwig is one such voice and if she wins Best Director

0:16:47 > 0:16:50on Sunday night, she'll only be the second woman ever to do so.

0:16:50 > 0:16:51No pressure, eh?

0:16:51 > 0:16:54There is some strong language coming up.

0:16:54 > 0:17:01Lady Bird, is that you're given name?Yes. I gave it to myself. It

0:17:01 > 0:17:08is given to me, by me.Lady Bird is about a 17-year-old in her last year

0:17:08 > 0:17:16at high school. You were given a role, you never turned up to claim

0:17:16 > 0:17:24it. What role? The Tempest. Her name is Christine, but she makes

0:17:24 > 0:17:29everybody call her Lady Bird.Lady Bird lives on the wrong side of the

0:17:29 > 0:17:33train tracks. I thought it was a metaphor, but there are actually

0:17:33 > 0:17:39train tracks. It is about before she goes off to college, and her

0:17:39 > 0:17:47relationship with her mum.The eggs are not done.Make your own eggs.I

0:17:47 > 0:17:53wanted to.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56wanted to.Wildly, crazy really talented. I knew they were equally

0:17:56 > 0:18:03matched.I want to go work culture is, New York, or at least

0:18:03 > 0:18:06Connecticut and New Hampshire. You will never get into those schools

0:18:06 > 0:18:12anyway.They punched the same weight class. You'll go back to city

0:18:12 > 0:18:16College, then to jail and then back to city College. Then you will pull

0:18:16 > 0:18:22yourself up.Watching the two of them going through these intricate

0:18:22 > 0:18:27scenes, these moments of connection and then the moments of fracture and

0:18:27 > 0:18:33where the trigger moment is for an argument and Harry gets resolved,

0:18:33 > 0:18:39these moments we don't generally get to see. There aren't as many movies

0:18:39 > 0:18:41about mothers and daughters because there aren't as many women making

0:18:41 > 0:18:48films. Studios are in the business of making a profit and this past

0:18:48 > 0:18:54year has proved how much we are hungry for stories from different

0:18:54 > 0:18:56storytellers and different perspectives and we are willing to

0:18:56 > 0:19:02put down our money to go and see it. I wanted you to be the very best

0:19:02 > 0:19:14version of yourself, you can be. What if this is the best version?

0:19:14 > 0:19:19Cuts.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23I already want to watch it again. Are we going to get into an argument

0:19:23 > 0:19:32as to who loves Lady Bird the most. Exciting thing is, it is directed by

0:19:32 > 0:19:39a woman and Kathryn Bigelow Paul Hart locker, that was a war film.

0:19:39 > 0:19:43This is a tiny coming of age film reflecting our experience and you

0:19:43 > 0:19:50never saw that as an Oscar film before. Such a modest film.It is an

0:19:50 > 0:19:54achievement and it shows us directing incomes in shapes and

0:19:54 > 0:20:00sizes and doesn't have to be big and bon Baskett to be Oscar worthy. I am

0:20:00 > 0:20:05a great fan of Greta. She has been around for a while and being an

0:20:05 > 0:20:10actor for a while and has written lots of things. You can tell that

0:20:10 > 0:20:15experience, she got some lovely performances out of the actors. How

0:20:15 > 0:20:22refreshing to see a coming of age movie which is in centres about a

0:20:22 > 0:20:27happy ending with a guy, it is her and her mother. You have the Hoops,

0:20:27 > 0:20:31losing her virginity and going to prom. It is about her relationship

0:20:31 > 0:20:37with her mother and not been defined by a boy. Dirty dancing, she ended

0:20:37 > 0:20:43up in his arms. This is more interesting. Can we talk about how

0:20:43 > 0:20:49hard it is to watch a period film set in 2000.I wasn't expecting

0:20:49 > 0:20:56that. It was my era, it works for me, totally.I remember it well. Is

0:20:56 > 0:21:02she going to win, is she going to be named Best Director? She is in a

0:21:02 > 0:21:07strong category this year, it is great for her to be nominated. Great

0:21:07 > 0:21:13to see Christopher Nolan, his first nomination for Best Director. It is

0:21:13 > 0:21:19astonishing in the history of the Academy, Alfred Hitchcock didn't get

0:21:19 > 0:21:23nominated for decades. Stephen Spielberg has been nudged aside in

0:21:23 > 0:21:28favour of other people.Martin McDonald wasn't nominated in that

0:21:28 > 0:21:34category around Three Billboards which I like, but does have some

0:21:34 > 0:21:40problems.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44problems.So Greta, all eyes are on you. Before that we'll be looking at

0:21:44 > 0:21:48who is up for best actor.

0:21:48 > 0:21:57She is more beautiful.I saw her naked once, great body.Trying to

0:21:57 > 0:22:03get me to like her?Where would be the harm in that. You cannot reason

0:22:03 > 0:22:11with a tiger when your head is in its mouth. Why are you not married?

0:22:11 > 0:22:17I make dresses. I was certain I was never meant to marry. I am a

0:22:17 > 0:22:22confirmed bachelor.Sorry, I see two sister standing. Why can't they

0:22:22 > 0:22:28stunning and the brother is sitting? We want to sit.You ladies have got

0:22:28 > 0:22:37to speak up for yourselves. This is in 40 years ago. There is no statute

0:22:37 > 0:22:51of limitations on chivalry.Can you feel that? I can't move.You are

0:22:51 > 0:23:03paralysed now, sinking to the floor. Wait...

0:23:07 > 0:23:11We have had Nicole Kidman and the nose, Charlies thereon and the face

0:23:11 > 0:23:17and the hare. Gary Oldman, great make-up or great acting?I think it

0:23:17 > 0:23:26is both. You are thinking, where is Gary Oldman underneath that.

0:23:27 > 0:23:29Gary Oldman underneath that. This is the category to watch if you want to

0:23:29 > 0:23:35know if Hollywood is changing. We have Gary Oldman where it is all

0:23:35 > 0:23:39about the prosthetics and then Daniel Day Lewis, favourite of the

0:23:39 > 0:23:47Academy, he has won many times. Then the new generation, Timothee

0:23:47 > 0:23:56Chalamet. He is very good. Denzel Washington. Nominated for the second

0:23:56 > 0:24:04year running. Cannot have a year without him.

0:24:06 > 0:24:11without him.We have Daniel Killingworth for Get Out. Daniel Day

0:24:11 > 0:24:17Lewis, who claims it is his last movie.Do we believe him? I don't

0:24:17 > 0:24:21think anybody believes in. It doesn't feel like his last role. He

0:24:21 > 0:24:26puts him through hell and either kills an animal needs it alive or

0:24:26 > 0:24:31does something crazy. This time, he was learning to sew. Really, is that

0:24:31 > 0:24:38enough?He is having too much fun. He is enjoying this character and I

0:24:38 > 0:24:42think in about five or ten years, there will be another great

0:24:42 > 0:24:46character for him and he will be back.I don't think we have seen the

0:24:46 > 0:24:54last of him. Timothee Chalamet, dark horse? He is in Lady Bird as well.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58People looked at him and think he has years ahead of him and we will

0:24:58 > 0:25:01see him a lot in this category in the future, but I don't think this

0:25:01 > 0:25:07is his year.

0:25:07 > 0:25:17Who will win, who should win? Let's take a look at the best actress

0:25:17 > 0:25:26race.You know what, if you can come up with $5,000 for a costume for me,

0:25:26 > 0:25:35I won't have to make one. Until then, just stay out of my face.My

0:25:35 > 0:25:50name is Lady Bird.That is weird, do you shake hands?Yes.

0:25:52 > 0:25:59My feelings about that, you cannot be part of this decision to publish

0:25:59 > 0:26:06or not. I am here asking your advice, Bob.Not your permission.

0:26:06 > 0:26:11Hello there.

0:26:13 > 0:26:21Hello there. Do you know who threw that can. What can?How about you,

0:26:21 > 0:26:29sleeker, do you know who threw that can?Frances McDormand, let's talk

0:26:29 > 0:26:36about her.I thought The Shape of Water, it would be Sally Hawkins who

0:26:36 > 0:26:41plays this new to cleaning woman who falls in love. I suppose the Oscar

0:26:41 > 0:26:47idea she is playing a mute woman, she has to that but this is the year

0:26:47 > 0:27:00we want women out there and and not giving a toss. Frances McDormand is

0:27:00 > 0:27:06out avenging best horrible rape and murder against her daughter.I think

0:27:06 > 0:27:12all of the criticisms of it are valid, it ignores race and it is

0:27:12 > 0:27:16oblivious to certain issues. That all makes sense, but the

0:27:16 > 0:27:20performances are so powerful, the script is so witty in places and

0:27:20 > 0:27:25entertaining, it earns the place on the nominee's list. And Frances

0:27:25 > 0:27:39McDormand deserves to win.You never know, this

0:27:39 > 0:27:47know, this could be Saoirse Ronan, she is only 23. We have had some

0:27:47 > 0:27:53amazing performances, Octavia Spencer in The Shape of Water.I am

0:27:53 > 0:27:57not a massive fan of that performance. I tell you who I would

0:27:57 > 0:28:09love to be nominated in this category, Tiffani had each.

0:28:09 > 0:28:11category, Tiffani had each. And also the trans-actress coming up and that

0:28:11 > 0:28:19is the next barrier to break. Everyone is like, is this going to

0:28:19 > 0:28:24be the year where there is the first nomination.Still work to do and all

0:28:24 > 0:28:32will be revealed on Sunday. The top prize of the night is best picture.

0:28:32 > 0:28:44Let's take a look at the 1910 is -- nine contenders.

0:28:44 > 0:28:53nine contenders.Ten hours until the deadline, so we dig in.

0:28:53 > 0:28:58deadline, so we dig in.Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine.

0:28:58 > 0:29:03You are very fond of her, are you? Don't pick a fight by me, you won't

0:29:03 > 0:29:08come out alive.

0:29:09 > 0:29:13come out alive.Documents dealing with the Vietnam War.Let me see

0:29:13 > 0:29:17your true qualities, your courage, lack of vanity, your sense of

0:29:17 > 0:29:26humour.You know your mum's they are totally fake. She made one bad

0:29:26 > 0:29:39decision at 19.Rose...

0:29:39 > 0:29:45decision at 19.Rose...Where is the bloody airborne?

0:29:56 > 0:30:00He didn't drill a little hole in the dentist today, did you?Of course

0:30:00 > 0:30:07not.Got to say it again, my kind of woman. Nine nominations for Best

0:30:07 > 0:30:14picture. Will we have a shock this year?I don't know, it seems like a

0:30:14 > 0:30:183-way race between billboards, shape of water and Lady Bird. I think you

0:30:18 > 0:30:24know who has got my vote.I love Lady Bird as well but those two

0:30:24 > 0:30:29winning all the Best Film prizes at the moment I live shape of water. It

0:30:29 > 0:30:37is polarising the sofa.I don't hate it by any means, but it is a tough

0:30:37 > 0:30:43competition this year. It feels

0:30:43 > 0:30:46competition this year. It feels a bit twee. Maybe I have got in for

0:30:46 > 0:30:59Sally Hall Kim since Happy-go-lucky. Wonderful to look at and I think

0:30:59 > 0:31:06perhaps it will swing the Best Director category but also, the

0:31:06 > 0:31:10other Oscar contender, it was another similar, gorgeous to look at

0:31:10 > 0:31:15fantasy. Very rooted in society and historical context. That was the

0:31:15 > 0:31:22civil war, this is the Cold War. It isn't some little fantasy bubble.

0:31:22 > 0:31:28People are getting excited about the fact fantasies will win. It has

0:31:28 > 0:31:34before, unless you count Lord of rings. But there are so many more

0:31:34 > 0:31:37exciting, ground-breaking films and that isn't as impressive. It is not

0:31:37 > 0:31:45working for me on that level. If you want to fill that challenges, the

0:31:45 > 0:31:52body snatching horror, Get Out.I remember watching in the cinema,

0:31:52 > 0:31:59anything like it. Could this be the film but could it be this year's

0:31:59 > 0:32:04Moonlight?Looking across all the nominations, it has changed the idea

0:32:04 > 0:32:08of what an Oscar film is. Partly to do with the Harvey Weinstein thing.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12He was known as the king of the Oscars and he would push all these

0:32:12 > 0:32:21prestige pictures. The King's speech, you know where you are. You

0:32:21 > 0:32:25have the post, Stephen Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep. When I was

0:32:25 > 0:32:29picking my nominations, I was thinking, that is going to win. I

0:32:29 > 0:32:36don't think it is now.I was the same, I thought it was sure, but now

0:32:36 > 0:32:43we're not even talking about it. Dunkirk, are we over the war movies?

0:32:43 > 0:32:48It was fantastic, spectacular and Hughes should I got everybody into

0:32:48 > 0:32:55the cinema. It was bigger than batsman in the UK. It plunges you

0:32:55 > 0:33:04into the horrors of war, the spectacle of war.It is funny how

0:33:04 > 0:33:07British actors are doing exciting things in these operas, but British

0:33:07 > 0:33:13film seems to be stuck in the past. The church a movie with Gary Oldman,

0:33:13 > 0:33:17has the Yanks love the Crown, it has the Downton and the Crown vote

0:33:17 > 0:33:23coming out for it in the economy. The upper lips are stiff.Should win

0:33:23 > 0:33:30or is definitely going to win, best picture?Three billboards, best

0:33:30 > 0:33:43picture.I think it will go to The Shape of Water.

0:33:43 > 0:33:49We have about 100 hours to go before the decisions on Monday morning. We

0:33:49 > 0:33:57are going to play out

0:33:58 > 0:34:04are going to play out with The Greatest Showman. It was slated by

0:34:04 > 0:34:17the critics, but it shows the critics don't know everything.
