:00:00. > :00:00.will have a roundup of the other latest sports news. That is all with
:00:00. > :00:18.me at 6:30pm. Now on BBC News, it is time for the film review.
:00:19. > :00:21.Hello and welcome to the Film Review on BBC News.
:00:22. > :00:24.To take us through this week's cinema releases is Jason Solomons.
:00:25. > :00:45.We go intergalactic for the latest Marvel release. To make talking back
:00:46. > :00:52.and save the world? Alan Rickman and Rebecca Hall have the evening
:00:53. > :01:04.disrupted by a newcomer. In Igiebor, get your
:01:05. > :01:13.`` in Mood Indigo get your quirk, devout to handle Audrey Tautou. We
:01:14. > :01:23.can all do with a bit of escapism at this time of year. It is a Marvel
:01:24. > :01:28.comic, not one I knew about, about space mercenaries who are chasing an
:01:29. > :01:37.all around space. They get thrown into prison by the authorities. ``
:01:38. > :01:43.orb. There is a talking raccoon. And also a talking tree. But not the
:01:44. > :01:47.most wooden character in all of it. If we are going to get out of here,
:01:48. > :01:51.we need to get into that watchtower. To do that, I need a
:01:52. > :02:01.fusing. The guards where security bands. I need one. Leave it to me.
:02:02. > :02:08.He has a prosthetic leg, I need it. His leg? Yes, goodness knows I don't
:02:09. > :02:14.need the rest of him. All right. Do you see that blinking light? Yes.
:02:15. > :02:18.There is a special battery behind it. To get into the watchtower I
:02:19. > :02:23.definitely need it. How are we supposed to do that? Maybe you can
:02:24. > :02:28.work out some sort of trade if you find you attractive. You must be
:02:29. > :02:33.joking. No, I know he finds you attractive. It is impossible to get
:02:34. > :02:40.up there without being seen. My plan is to get the battery, so figure it
:02:41. > :02:43.out! One reviewer said just step on board for the ride. Is that a
:02:44. > :02:48.suggestion which is challenging to do so?
:02:49. > :02:51.For me it was challenging. From the first minute I knew this wasn't a
:02:52. > :02:56.film I could get. A lot of people thought this was a whizbang, smart,
:02:57. > :03:03.funny, hilarious space film. The budget is huge.
:03:04. > :03:07.The budgets are all huge at the moment, without millions of dollars
:03:08. > :03:13.you are nothing in the industry. There is a talking raccoons in it.
:03:14. > :03:17.Played by Bradley Cooper. The interesting thing about that is he
:03:18. > :03:20.just has to turn up, he does not have too sit through it. It didn't
:03:21. > :03:32.have any morals, didn't have any meaning, there isn't really a plot,
:03:33. > :03:36.they are chasing a space orb. It was supposed to be a comedy, nobody was
:03:37. > :03:40.laughing. I have to say I hated every minute of it. A stupid
:03:41. > :03:44.blockbuster. Is it one of those that the critics
:03:45. > :03:47.don't like so much, but the public like it?
:03:48. > :03:50.I think the public are going to like it. Some critics like it, I think it
:03:51. > :03:56.is just me. Jason Solomons doesn't like it.
:03:57. > :03:58.I am the guardian of taste this week, not the galaxy.
:03:59. > :04:04.Let's have a look at the next one. Alan Rickman in this one.
:04:05. > :04:09.Yes, with his best withering look. He plays the bass of an iron foundry
:04:10. > :04:13.in Belgium on the eve of the First World War. He runs this iron
:04:14. > :04:26.foundry, and he gets a young man to help him out. The young actor is
:04:27. > :04:30.from game of thrones. He falls in love instantly with the mistress of
:04:31. > :04:34.the house played by the lovely and beautiful Rebecca Hall. They begin
:04:35. > :04:39.this romance which is unspoken, it is a listed, it isn't proper, it is
:04:40. > :04:44.all about the letters, and all about the pent`up emotions. In between
:04:45. > :04:48.this, the First World War inconveniently breaks out. Not that
:04:49. > :04:52.they notice at all. The great War, one of the most atrocious events of
:04:53. > :04:56.the last century happens, and all these two care about is that they
:04:57. > :05:03.can write letters to each other, or what they are going to have for
:05:04. > :05:08.dinner. It is directed by a French director, and this is his first film
:05:09. > :05:14.in the English`language. He speaks quite good English, but he would not
:05:15. > :05:18.know it from this film. There was no chemistry from Rebecca Hall, who is
:05:19. > :05:23.actually a great actor. Alan Rickman is also a great actor, but he just
:05:24. > :05:27.has no part to play in it. He is sort of emasculated from the start.
:05:28. > :05:31.They never gets going. It lasts 95 minutes, but the end of it comes and
:05:32. > :05:36.you feel like you have been there for four hours.
:05:37. > :05:40.We are not doing very well. This is two out of three. Let's go to the
:05:41. > :05:46.third one, Mood Indigo. If you have quirks, prepared to show
:05:47. > :05:51.them now. The director gave us one of the most beautiful love stories
:05:52. > :05:59.of all time recently, but he is an acquired taste some people haven't
:06:00. > :06:04.acquired. He is at his most needing to be acquired moment with this
:06:05. > :06:09.film. The title comes from Duke Ellington, it is a love story
:06:10. > :06:22.between Romain Duris, one of the best French actors, and Audrey
:06:23. > :06:26.Tautou, which we know from Amelie. It is a surreal film. From this
:06:27. > :07:16.clip, you're about to see that they are going to get married.
:07:17. > :07:25.You were chuckling away. When you laughing at it?
:07:26. > :07:27.I was laughing with it. After five minutes this could make you run from
:07:28. > :07:33.the cinema, even if you were watching it on an aeroplane from
:07:34. > :07:39.30,000 feet. Some people will be put off it. It is zany. But it is better
:07:40. > :07:47.than that. It is surreal, and I mean surreal in a proper art form. It
:07:48. > :07:50.build a mood with its flying machines and strange performances.
:07:51. > :07:54.It doesn't really have a plot, but it charts the love story between
:07:55. > :07:58.Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris. It is true love but it blossoms and
:07:59. > :08:04.Wilts. By the end, I was affected by it. I found it extremely clever, the
:08:05. > :08:09.way it worked. Some of it was very funny. I know some people will be
:08:10. > :08:13.completely turned off by it. There was a lot of philosophy throughout,
:08:14. > :08:19.existentialism, funky musical, it never ceases, it is restless, every
:08:20. > :08:30.single frame has something in it. That. `` funky music.
:08:31. > :08:34.Has it gone on its merits, rather than its chemistry?
:08:35. > :08:40.Romain Duris and Audrey Tautou, it still felt like love. I want to be
:08:41. > :08:44.different from the reviews. He has taken you on a journey about the
:08:45. > :08:48.colour of the film. It fades to black and white. She gets diagnosed
:08:49. > :08:52.with a disease, and there is a flower growing on her lung. I found
:08:53. > :08:59.it a beautiful image by the time the other images had corroborated in
:09:00. > :09:03.your soul. This one crept into my heart and I thought it was gorgeous,
:09:04. > :09:06.really, really good. I'm glad we have recovered the
:09:07. > :09:14.situation from the first two. What is the best film out at the moment?
:09:15. > :09:18.People keep asking me what is out. There are lots teenage blockbusters
:09:19. > :09:40.out, not much else. We had is what I am recommending. It charts a boy
:09:41. > :09:46.growing from six to 16. `` Boyhood. Is It Self`indulgent?
:09:47. > :09:50.Not At All. It Is About Life Happening. There Are No Spaceships,
:09:51. > :09:55.No Talking Raccoons, It Is About Life, Love, And People Growing. It
:09:56. > :10:01.Works Like Magic. I Have Seen It Once. It Is Three Hours. It Is Lived
:10:02. > :10:05.On. The Blood Talking About It Incessantly. People Who Have Seen It
:10:06. > :10:09.Have Been Bowled Over By It. `` People Are Talking About It
:10:10. > :10:15.Incessantly. You Can Get A Lot From This Film.
:10:16. > :10:28.12 Years In Three Hours. Best Dvd?
:10:29. > :10:31.It Is A Prison Drama. Jack O'connell Is An Inmate. He Is A Youth
:10:32. > :10:36.Offender, But He Is So Brutal That He Gets Put Into An Adult Jail. It
:10:37. > :10:40.Is Hard`hitting Stuff, But All The More Powerful For It.
:10:41. > :10:47.Thank You Very Much For All Of That. Just A Quick Reminder.
:10:48. > :10:57.You will find more online, including all of our previous shows. That is
:10:58. > :11:07.it for this week, though, thank you very much for watching. Goodbye.
:11:08. > :11:13.You might be tempted to go to the cinema. If you look behind me, there
:11:14. > :11:19.is some rain forecast this weekend. It is already raining in some
:11:20. > :11:21.places. The heavy stuff will turn up across the South
