:00:00. > :00:00.today's quarterfinals, and we will preview this weekends Grand Prix at

:00:00. > :00:00.Silverstone. That's in Sportsday at 6:30pm. Now it's time for The Film

:00:00. > :00:23.Review. Hello and welcome to The Film Review

:00:24. > :00:27.here on BBC News. To take us through this week 's similar releases here

:00:28. > :00:33.is Mark Kermode. As ever a mixed bunch. We have The 100`Year`Old Man

:00:34. > :00:35.Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared, which has been

:00:36. > :00:41.described as the Swedish Forest Gump. We have Here And Now, a

:00:42. > :00:48.British movie about coming`of`age and a blossoming relationship. And

:00:49. > :00:57.we have Tammy, Melissa McCarthy starring and co`writing in that. The

:00:58. > :01:03.hundred `year`old man, do we get Swedish comedy? This is based on a

:01:04. > :01:08.hit novel which was hit a couple of years before it was published here.

:01:09. > :01:12.The story is, it stars Robert Gustafsson, described as the

:01:13. > :01:16.funniest man in Sweden, which I have to say is the definition of damning

:01:17. > :01:20.with faint praise. At the beginning he climbs out of the window and

:01:21. > :01:23.disappears and gets to a bus to another town, accidentally picks up

:01:24. > :01:27.a suitcase and has a biker gang following him, teams up with an old

:01:28. > :01:35.road and a woman with a pet elephant, wealth that is happening

:01:36. > :01:38.he is flashing back through his past life which has a Forest Gump Trail

:01:39. > :01:40.through the 20th century. He is basically interested in explosions,

:01:41. > :01:44.and during the course of his strange life he meets Franco, Stalin,

:01:45. > :01:51.Reagan, Oppenheimer, and affect history. He is a clip. Comrade

:01:52. > :02:02.Stalin once you to tell him everything you know about the

:02:03. > :02:19.nuclear bomb. Yes, sure. But maybe a drink first.

:02:20. > :02:30.One drink and then you tell me everything.

:02:31. > :02:57.You sound just like Franco. You get the general idea. It is elegant as

:02:58. > :03:01.well as Forest Gump. And a bit of Candide. It takes the Forest Gump

:03:02. > :03:06.thing, going through these events, and yet all the way through he is

:03:07. > :03:08.indifferent to the death, destruction and chaos around him. I

:03:09. > :03:12.think there is a problem here which is the humour doesn't travelled the

:03:13. > :03:20.same way the Scandinavian film while thing travels. The humour doesn't

:03:21. > :03:22.travel in the same way. When this opened in Sweden, Denmark and

:03:23. > :03:26.Finland it was a huge hit, and it was a Christmas movie, and they

:03:27. > :03:34.loved it. It will have a much harder time here. In some ways it is

:03:35. > :03:40.structurally reminiscent of the film like The Young And Prodigious Ts but

:03:41. > :03:44.it has a brass band film, and at every moment, the story is telling

:03:45. > :03:50.you, this is funny, this is funny. You are thinking, well, it is not,

:03:51. > :03:54.it is right and satirical and rather bleak and a bit nihilistic but not

:03:55. > :03:59.funny `` Drive. Over here because the humour does not work in the same

:04:00. > :04:03.way as it does in Scandinavia, you miss a lot of it so consequently it

:04:04. > :04:07.is possible to become irritated. Here And Now. It is a very low

:04:08. > :04:11.budget movie clearly made with a lot of love and affection starring

:04:12. > :04:16.Lauren Johnson and Andy Rush. She is a town girl taken on holiday, like

:04:17. > :04:21.Withnail and I, gone on holiday by mistake, and she is very gobby, she

:04:22. > :04:25.meets this young lad who doesn't say very much, which is an ironic point,

:04:26. > :04:29.and what happens is while she is there she is seduced by the

:04:30. > :04:35.landscape and his company. The earphones come out and she starts

:04:36. > :04:39.hearing the sound of the woods and at one point she produces a

:04:40. > :04:43.harmonica and plays it. She starts to become seduced by the sober

:04:44. > :04:48.lifestyle. It was rather sweet. Very well played by the centrally. A real

:04:49. > :04:53.warmth and affection about it, and very low budget but rather

:04:54. > :04:58.charming. 2000 `year`old script, a sub stable of the town mouse and the

:04:59. > :05:03.country mouse. But it is a good story that is why it has lasted.

:05:04. > :05:07.Tammy. Melissa McCarthy co`writes the script with the director, and

:05:08. > :05:10.the story is that she loses her job and her husband and goes on the road

:05:11. > :05:14.with their drunken grandmother played by Susan 's arrant on, and a

:05:15. > :05:19.whole manner of cataclysmic events in student, which inevitably attract

:05:20. > :05:29.the attention of the police. Here is a clip. We have reports that someone

:05:30. > :05:36.was burning jet ski on the late last night. O... Super uncool, I never

:05:37. > :05:42.burn watercraft might you know? No. We have also been tracking tracking

:05:43. > :05:50.2004 Cadillac that was involved robbery. Anything on that? You

:05:51. > :05:57.know... Wow. Hawaiian Bears shirt, we rescue a lot of those. You

:05:58. > :06:04.probably see quite a few. Calm weather is, let's go, right this

:06:05. > :06:14.way. I bet you see a lot of bears. No, ma'am. Are you serious? There

:06:15. > :06:19.was a bee! She is really funny and I want to like the movie more because

:06:20. > :06:23.it has a terrific cast. The problem is, what is Willie interesting is

:06:24. > :06:27.that she meets a whole load of very empowered, interesting women who

:06:28. > :06:31.don't fit the stereotype those bromance comedies have but it is not

:06:32. > :06:34.funny enough, and I wanted to laugh out loud and ended up smiling and

:06:35. > :06:39.feeling warmly towards it and liking it, but wanting it to make me laugh

:06:40. > :06:44.more. The sad thing is it is the Woody Allen thing, insufficient

:06:45. > :06:47.laughter. It is a real shame because it is very good`hearted and has all

:06:48. > :06:52.the right intentions but is not as funny as it needs to be, which is a

:06:53. > :07:00.shame. For a comic movie. Exactly, it is a problem. A hard days night.

:07:01. > :07:06.Just reissued, 50th anniversary, a new print, in the cinema, a Blu`ray

:07:07. > :07:11.coming out, and you go, that film is a sprightly, and market, punky, just

:07:12. > :07:14.as much as 50 years ago. So much better than many others, everything

:07:15. > :07:21.from Don is about Elvis to certain boy bands more recently, it is

:07:22. > :07:25.actually funny. In one hand it is a social documentary of Britain on the

:07:26. > :07:31.cusp of revolution, the beetles are funny, at the height of their hit

:07:32. > :07:36.making capability, it is nouvelle vague, it is a really smart movie.

:07:37. > :07:40.Your DVD is Grand Budapest Hotel which you should see on the big

:07:41. > :07:44.screen. But funnily enough it works on the small screen largely because

:07:45. > :07:48.of Ralph Fiennes's, performance, you don't think of him as a comedic

:07:49. > :07:52.performer, and the detail, whenever you look at a Wes Anderson movie it

:07:53. > :07:56.is like looking at a Swiss watch, you can watch repeatedly and the

:07:57. > :07:59.gags and tiny, everything is so tightly choreographed that it does

:08:00. > :08:13.stand up on the small screen. And yes, but you loved it the first

:08:14. > :08:16.time. Yes. Not everybody does, Wes Anderson is, it has to be said, not

:08:17. > :08:19.everybody's cup of tea. But Ralph Fiennes is very funny which is not

:08:20. > :08:21.what you would expect from him. Being funny? Being really funny. He

:08:22. > :08:23.is the funniest person on screen this week against Melissa McCarthy

:08:24. > :08:25.and The 100`Year`Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared. He

:08:26. > :08:28.is funnier than Melissa McCarthy certainly. We will have to differ.

:08:29. > :08:33.Before we go, Moore film news and reviews across the BBC, online and

:08:34. > :08:38.including all our previous shows. That is it for this week. A load of

:08:39. > :08:47.laughs. Thank you for watching and goodbye.

:08:48. > :08:49.Silverstone. That's in Sportsday at 6:30pm.

:08:50. > :08:54.Good evening. What a contrast in weather conditions we have seen

:08:55. > :08:57.today. I will offend people when I say we have had the warmest day of

:08:58. > :08:58.the year
