:00:24. > :00:34.News. Now, time for the film now, cinema releases, here is Mark

:00:34. > :00:35.

:00:35. > :00:40.Kermode. So Mark, what do we have this week? As usual, something of a

:00:40. > :00:43.mixed as usual, something of a mixed bag bag. . We have a field we have a

:00:43. > :00:49.field in England, which is the latest from being in England, which

:00:49. > :00:52.is the latest from being weekly weekly. . We also have now you see

:00:52. > :00:54.me, which raises the question of whatever happened to magic we also

:00:55. > :01:01.have now you see me, which raises the question of whatever happened to

:01:01. > :01:04.magic in in the cinema. The cinema. Now, you top now, you top about

:01:04. > :01:14.boring ring, which is a true story. About boring ring, which is a true

:01:14. > :01:15.

:01:15. > :01:18.story. They discovered it is possible they discovered it is

:01:18. > :01:20.possible to find out when celebrities are out and then they

:01:20. > :01:24.start to find out when celebrities are out and then they start

:01:24. > :01:26.burglarising burglarising their houses. Their houses. They are just

:01:26. > :01:29.wandering into the houses of the rich and famous and they are just

:01:29. > :01:34.wandering into the houses of the rich and famous and, in one, in one

:01:34. > :01:37.location, the House of Paris Hilton, who actually who actually let her

:01:37. > :01:46.house be used in the actual film let her house be used in the actual

:01:46. > :01:56.film. Here's a clip. Here's a clip. . The kit please the kit please. .I

:01:56. > :02:00.

:02:00. > :02:10.like I like the feel of this the feel of this. . It is so cute it is

:02:10. > :02:29.

:02:29. > :02:34.so cute. . At one point, a celebrity has left their key under the

:02:34. > :02:38.doormat. In many houses, alarms are not turned on. It is about people

:02:38. > :02:44.living in an artificial world, that is the point. One of the criticisms

:02:44. > :02:47.of the film is that it is soft on its protagonists. The director

:02:47. > :02:51.appears to if not sympathise with them, at least to enjoy their

:02:51. > :02:56.company to some extent. I think it is an accurate portrait of them. She

:02:56. > :03:05.is very good with the cast. She gets very natural performances from her

:03:05. > :03:10.cast. It is a film which does feel sympathetic to its players. It also

:03:10. > :03:14.touches on the idea that celebrity culture and materialism, possessions

:03:14. > :03:19.are in the end utterly vacuous. It does not wallow in them in the same

:03:19. > :03:25.way that other films do. I wanted a tougher edge to it. I wanted more

:03:25. > :03:30.satirical bite, something closer to a film like to die for, or the King

:03:30. > :03:35.of comedy, which began the cycle of films about becoming a celebrity

:03:35. > :03:39.through crime. But it is a genuine portrait. She has this way of

:03:39. > :03:45.directing which is kind of dreamy, slightly woozy. You are just wonder

:03:45. > :03:51.moved from the action. It is good fun. It is flimsy. I have to say, it

:03:51. > :03:56.should be tougher. But if it is not an affectionate portrait, it at

:03:56. > :04:03.least seems genuine. It also seems a great summer watch, 90 minutes, out

:04:03. > :04:06.of the sunshine. It does not overstay its Wellcome. A field in

:04:06. > :04:10.England is very interesting, the new film by Ben week leave. It is black

:04:10. > :04:15.and white, set in the English Civil War. It has been released

:04:15. > :04:22.simultaneously in the cinema, DVD, Blu-ray, television, you can see it

:04:22. > :04:27.anywhere you want to. The director is the guy who gave us the kill list

:04:27. > :04:32.and sightseers. He does this dark comedy, bordering on horror. This is

:04:32. > :04:37.the story of a ragtag band who have moved away from the battlefield, in

:04:37. > :04:40.search of an ale house. They find a field with mushrooms, and somebody

:04:40. > :04:44.insisting somewhere in the field is a pot of gold. There are hints to

:04:44. > :04:50.other films. And all the way through, there is this brooding

:04:50. > :04:56.darkness. And it starts to tip into this hallucinogenic vision, and it

:04:56. > :05:01.becomes really creepy, very darkly satirical. To rid the performances.

:05:01. > :05:07.Solid performances by the cast. You would be hard pressed to say what it

:05:07. > :05:13.is that is so disturbing, but after 45 minutes, you feel genuinely

:05:13. > :05:17.worried, like something is coming up from the floor. Magic mushrooms and

:05:17. > :05:21.psychedelic trauma? There is more than one way of reading it. At the

:05:21. > :05:25.beginning, there is a warning saying it features lighting effects in

:05:25. > :05:30.which people may react to. Interestingly, that is by no means

:05:30. > :05:35.the most disturbing scene. There is one slow motion shot that is

:05:35. > :05:38.literally a shot of a man walking out of a tent attached to a rope,

:05:38. > :05:44.and it is one of the creepiest things I can remember seeing. He is

:05:44. > :05:47.a very fine director. Incidentally, simultaneous releasing is the

:05:47. > :05:57.future, and it is a really interesting piece of work that will

:05:57. > :05:58.

:05:58. > :06:06.creep some people out. Sounds terrific. No, I have been seeing the

:06:06. > :06:14.posters all over the place for the next film. It is about magicians

:06:14. > :06:22.being brought together by a mysterious force. It is a short

:06:22. > :06:32.which will be spectacular, but also, crucially, criminal. Here's a clip.

:06:32. > :06:34.

:06:34. > :06:40.Tonight, we are going to rob a bank. On the count of three, you

:06:40. > :06:50.will be transported through space and time to your bank in Paris.

:06:50. > :06:55.

:06:55. > :07:05.years. What do you see? Money. No, that button on your right Palace

:07:05. > :07:17.

:07:17. > :07:27.with Las Vegas. No, for the money. Thank you, everyone. Good night! It

:07:27. > :07:34.

:07:34. > :07:39.looks like fun. You have a lot of big stars and the. It is not unlike

:07:39. > :07:45.auction 11 in some way, but it is essentially about the philosophy of

:07:45. > :07:52.magic and what it is used for. It has an idea about the beginning

:07:52. > :07:57.about magic, because there's a good card trick at the beginning which

:07:57. > :08:07.really works well in screen, but it then gets kind top and everything

:08:07. > :08:09.

:08:10. > :08:17.gets thrown in. Computer graphics, car chases. But you get Michael

:08:17. > :08:22.Caine and Morgan Freeman giving remainders of any film which I

:08:22. > :08:32.really like but never did anything at the box office. It really loses

:08:32. > :08:33.

:08:33. > :08:43.its way and at the end, it is very disappointing. The act of killing is

:08:43. > :08:50.the best film of the week for you. It is a very inventive documentary

:08:50. > :08:54.about the cycle of violence. It is about the human attitude to an

:08:54. > :09:03.unpunished claim. It is a harsh documentary. It is not an easy

:09:03. > :09:11.watch, but absolutely worth it. your DVD pick of the week? When it

:09:11. > :09:18.came out in the cinema I did not get it. I read the book and I thought it

:09:18. > :09:23.was unfilmable Phil Noble as a movie. But I find a lot more

:09:23. > :09:33.watchable this time. Think maybe a third time round it may actually

:09:33. > :09:35.

:09:35. > :09:40.strike me as being excellent! you like to do the plot synopsis?

:09:40. > :09:50.is all about time travel. People play the same characters different

:09:50. > :09:58.genres different genders in different times and places. It is

:09:58. > :10:03.the equivalent of writing a poorly on the set silver screen. As the old

:10:03. > :10:10.saying goes, I do not understand it but I do not mind. The first time

:10:10. > :10:20.round I did not understand it, the second time round I understood it

:10:20. > :10:23.
