:00:00. > :00:00.hip problem. We will also hear about a change in cricket licensing and
:00:00. > :00:00.tae kwon do in Korea. That is coming up at 6:30pm. Now it is time for the
:00:07. > :00:20.Film Review. Hello and welcome to
:00:21. > :00:23.the Film Review on BBC News. To take us through this week's
:00:24. > :00:38.cinema releases is Mark Kermode. A mixed bag this week. We have a
:00:39. > :00:47.portrait of a grumpy old man. We have Despicable Me three, the
:00:48. > :00:51.minions are back. And Risk. Lots to talk about but my most important
:00:52. > :01:02.role this week is to get the pronunciation right.
:01:03. > :01:10.This is a film that will make you feel and his sympathy for all the
:01:11. > :01:16.people in your life. The tag line is, you will love him as much a fee
:01:17. > :01:21.hates you. He wants to end his life but it keeps being distracted by his
:01:22. > :01:25.neighbours to keep breaking the housing association rules, of which
:01:26. > :01:31.he is a stickler for keeping two. When a new family moves and he is
:01:32. > :01:42.furious about their presence, their annoyance, then being there.
:01:43. > :01:46.However, his wife says that behind that he starts to break down his
:01:47. > :02:45.resistance and she gets him to teach her to drive. Here's a clip. Hello.
:02:46. > :02:54.A fantastic look of exasperation on his face. He has a brilliant face.
:02:55. > :03:00.Did you ever see the 100-year-old man who climbed out the window and
:03:01. > :03:07.disappeared? No. As shackled with that film because of the humour, and
:03:08. > :03:13.I never fell in with it. It looks like that kind of film but then we
:03:14. > :03:17.start to learn about his life story, young romance, childhood trauma, his
:03:18. > :03:24.relationship with his wife which is idyllic but faces tragedy, and you
:03:25. > :03:27.start to understand how he got to where he is and it is seat and
:03:28. > :03:35.sentimental. There is an ongoing argument about whether bobbles or
:03:36. > :03:38.saps are the ideal cast. House leaders. Entire friendships follow
:03:39. > :03:47.tour that these arguments but you start to see as a three-dimensional
:03:48. > :03:53.character. He has a strong moral compass and has been made better.
:03:54. > :04:00.Inside that is the person he used to be. I went in not thinking I would
:04:01. > :04:05.go for it, but I laughed and cried. Like any movie that makes me cry
:04:06. > :04:10.because it means that you believe in the characters. I really liked it.
:04:11. > :04:18.Despite the tag line, you will love him as much as he hates you, it was
:04:19. > :04:24.easy to fall in with. A third of any film really. Does the world need
:04:25. > :04:32.this? Whether we need Despicable Me three is another thing. I find them
:04:33. > :04:36.funny. They are running out of plots and they had to bring a character in
:04:37. > :04:40.to make it work, but you see the minions before the titles and one
:04:41. > :04:46.pulls out a far gone and it made me laugh. I giggled like an idiot for
:04:47. > :04:54.the rest of the film because I think that the minions are funny. The
:04:55. > :04:57.verbal staff is funny and they are perfect slapstick creations, they
:04:58. > :05:09.remind me of what was funny about old silent cinema. There is a new
:05:10. > :05:17.super villain but for me I just find the minions funny. I laughed all the
:05:18. > :05:25.way through. Even though I knew that I shouldn't, I did. You are allowed
:05:26. > :05:33.to do that. I am so interested in Risk. Her last film about Edward
:05:34. > :05:39.Snowden was brilliant. She was in the hotel room when the revelations
:05:40. > :05:46.were made. He came across as shy in that documentary. This is one about
:05:47. > :05:53.Julian Assange, who does not come across as shy. The film is
:05:54. > :05:58.conflicted about its subject. It began as a film about some under
:05:59. > :06:05.film makers seem to admire, but that changes. The portrait we get is some
:06:06. > :06:10.under this last is a stick, controlling, self obsessed, and has
:06:11. > :06:13.no self-awareness. Here is a clip in which Julian Assange and his
:06:14. > :06:24.associate are trying to call Hillary Clinton on the phone. This is an
:06:25. > :06:30.emergency. You are the emergency line and it will take a while? OK.
:06:31. > :06:42.Do you want to do that now and I will wait. He would like to speak to
:06:43. > :06:55.her about that. OK, let me start by giving you my phone number.
:06:56. > :07:01.Details including an unredacted cables such to go on the Internet. I
:07:02. > :07:13.do not understand why you do not see the urgency in this. Who is he?
:07:14. > :07:18.Hello, this is Julian Assange. Read do not have a problem, you have a
:07:19. > :07:28.problem. That is the tone of the film. The story is well now and,
:07:29. > :07:35.what is strange about this film is that it is very fragmented, it is
:07:36. > :07:42.not as good as her previous film. You can tell that it is a film in
:07:43. > :07:47.which the film-maker's relationship change during it. When the film was
:07:48. > :07:52.first seen about a year ago, the film-makers said the Julian Assange
:07:53. > :07:56.demanded changes and got lawyers involved, which he did not have the
:07:57. > :08:03.right to do. She has made the film that she wanted. There is an irony
:08:04. > :08:09.in someone who is releasing information wanting to control it.
:08:10. > :08:18.We have seen this before another documentaries and in the drama, the
:08:19. > :08:22.Fifth Estate. You get an inside view, but it is fragmented and
:08:23. > :08:26.frustrated because even when they are talking about the election you
:08:27. > :08:31.want the film to be more focused. It feels like it is falling apart.
:08:32. > :08:38.Julian Assange has said that the film will do his reputation no good
:08:39. > :08:42.and I think that he is right. Which some people may take as a
:08:43. > :08:47.recommendation in itself. It is interesting, also that it was made
:08:48. > :09:03.by a woman. What is your best out this week? Okja. It is basically as
:09:04. > :09:10.story about a girl in Korea who is moved to America to keep Aptech
:09:11. > :09:14.safety issue raised. It is a film about where food comes from and how
:09:15. > :09:22.capitalism hides behind the caring face. The film uses brilliant CGI to
:09:23. > :09:29.bring a giant pink to life, it is so terrible and strange and I liked it.
:09:30. > :09:35.-- a giant pink. It is very cinematic. It is thought promoting,
:09:36. > :09:40.it is not vegetarian propaganda but it will give you food for thought. I
:09:41. > :09:55.like that phrase, vegetarian propaganda. What about DVDs? He'll
:09:56. > :10:02.The Living was a small release. It is a story about a young man he was
:10:03. > :10:07.involved in an accident and his heart is used for a transplant to
:10:08. > :10:12.save someone else, to heal the living. It is a film about the
:10:13. > :10:17.miracle of medicine but it is more than that, it is about life and
:10:18. > :10:22.death, it is about transcendence, it takes poetic wonders and two strange
:10:23. > :10:26.areas. It is very underplayed and does not feel like it is
:10:27. > :10:32.manipulating your emotions that I was overwhelmed by it. Everyone I
:10:33. > :10:38.know who has seen it has loved that. I am looking forward to that. Thank
:10:39. > :10:38.you very much. We will see you next week.
:10:39. > :10:41.A quick reminder before we go that you'll find more film news
