0:00:17 > 0:00:21Hello and welcome to The One Show with Alex Jones.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23And you're probably used to watching him

0:00:23 > 0:00:24during your morning coffee.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27But it's Friday night, dry January is over,

0:00:27 > 0:00:32so have a beer and welcome Dan Walker!

0:00:32 > 0:00:36Good evening, thank you very much. Lovely to have you.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39And to keep us company, the host of 'Eurovision: You Decide'.

0:00:39 > 0:00:40And we've decided she should definitely

0:00:40 > 0:00:43be throwing herself into the mix.

0:00:43 > 0:00:52# Yes I swear, it's the truth # And I owe it all to you

0:00:52 > 0:01:01# I've had the time of my life # And I've never felt this way

0:01:01 > 0:01:06before # Yes, I swear, it's the truth

0:01:06 > 0:01:13# And I owe it all to you...

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Certainly worth more than nul points.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19It's Mel Giedroyc!

0:01:19 > 0:01:25So nice to be here, lads.Lovely to have you on a Friday. It is

0:01:25 > 0:01:27gorgeous.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30Mel, that clip was from Comic Relief, of course.

0:01:30 > 0:01:37But we thought, if you and Sue entered Eurovision, you would

0:01:37 > 0:01:44probably win.Stop it, we are about three times too old to enter. The

0:01:44 > 0:01:55Hungarian 's would love you.Katrina and the waves?97? She was that old!

0:01:55 > 0:02:01She was amazing, and still looking great.Cammy talk about the

0:02:01 > 0:02:07jumpsuit, that is magnificent. -- can we talk.I'm slightly annoyed

0:02:07 > 0:02:12about that, that jumpsuit went missing. I was very keen to buy this

0:02:12 > 0:02:16from the BBC because you have to do that, you're not given lots of free

0:02:16 > 0:02:24stuff. I thought, I'm having that jumpsuit, great for our party, no

0:02:24 > 0:02:30one agrees, clearly, total silence! I went to get the jumpsuit but it

0:02:30 > 0:02:35had gone, who would take it?We thought maybe the said person would

0:02:35 > 0:02:41be watching. We haven't got it here. I thought you were going to bring it

0:02:41 > 0:02:49out!But if the person out there who bought it or starlet is watching,

0:02:49 > 0:02:59get in touch and we can reunite Mel with the jumpsuit -- stole it.It

0:02:59 > 0:03:03was great, with lightning and clouds. We will keep a close eye on

0:03:03 > 0:03:05it.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09To keep up the musical mood tonight, we'll also be remembering

0:03:09 > 0:03:10one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Two years since David Bowie's death, we'll be chatting to the man

0:03:13 > 0:03:17bringing this true musical icon back to life.

0:03:17 > 0:03:22All that tonight. But also...

0:03:22 > 0:03:25A study out this week revealed that 4 in 5 women experience

0:03:25 > 0:03:27changes in concentration and memory while pregnant.

0:03:27 > 0:03:35LAUGHTER Oh!

0:03:35 > 0:03:36And beyond!

0:03:36 > 0:03:38So is the so-called 'baby brain' a myth or a reality?

0:03:38 > 0:03:40It is a reality.

0:03:40 > 0:03:44We asked Carrie to find out.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48So what is the baby brain phenomenon? One way to find out is

0:03:48 > 0:03:52to ask the people who suffer from it. Where was I going? Oh yeah,

0:03:52 > 0:04:01that's right. If I asked you what is baby brain, what would you say?It

0:04:01 > 0:04:05is pretty much what I've got right now, you are kind of blank and

0:04:05 > 0:04:10sometimes you forget what words you're saying.Before I was very

0:04:10 > 0:04:12regimented and structured and I would leave the house and have

0:04:12 > 0:04:17everything but now I forget my phone and I'm forgetting my keys, it

0:04:17 > 0:04:25stresses me out and makes everyday harder.One time I accidentally

0:04:25 > 0:04:30clutched a night with my cooked chicken.I would put the milk in the

0:04:30 > 0:04:34oven rather than in the fridge cover things like that. There does appear

0:04:34 > 0:04:39to be a bit of a phenomenon going on speaking anecdotally but if we want

0:04:39 > 0:04:43real proof we have got to speak to an expert, a professor at the

0:04:43 > 0:04:52University of Manchester Thunder some answers. -- has some answers

0:04:52 > 0:04:57for.We know is to Jim Fx part of the

0:04:57 > 0:05:07which is associated -- we know these hormonal levels could affect women,

0:05:07 > 0:05:10and the hormones don't make the whole picture, but things like sleep

0:05:10 > 0:05:15and anxiety levels, and well-being, these will influence it, and if

0:05:15 > 0:05:19women and their partners are worried about this, what they can do is just

0:05:19 > 0:05:24try and reduce their anxiety through pregnancy and try to maintain a

0:05:24 > 0:05:28state of well-being, however they want to do that, but we can't change

0:05:28 > 0:05:35our hormonal levels, although we can change our environment. That is food

0:05:35 > 0:05:38for thought but if I told mothers they were not getting enough sleep,

0:05:38 > 0:05:47what would they have to say? Has baby brain affected you?It depends

0:05:47 > 0:05:54on your character before you were pregnant, I'm

0:05:54 > 0:05:57pregnant, I'm a perfectionist but when the baby came it was all over

0:05:57 > 0:06:00the place, and other mothers say it is easy, you can code, and then you

0:06:00 > 0:06:05find yourself, why am I not coping because that mother was able to do

0:06:05 > 0:06:11it? You put yourself down. The report has flagged up sleep

0:06:11 > 0:06:16deprivation which is not going to just affect women but also men.It

0:06:16 > 0:06:21is repeatedly being broken up, it was like torture, you have not had

0:06:21 > 0:06:28any consistent sleep.And anxiety also plays a big part.You wake up

0:06:28 > 0:06:31and then you don't wake up, you don't know if you are going to have

0:06:31 > 0:06:36a good sleep, you are constantly on a state of alert and that is going

0:06:36 > 0:06:39to mess with your hormones, is that the anxiety of parenthood that

0:06:39 > 0:06:46changes your hormones or your hormones affected it?Is the myth

0:06:46 > 0:06:55debunked? Not entirely, but there is surely no cure for this... What's

0:06:55 > 0:07:06the word? STUDIO:Thank you, Carrie. It is not a myth, baby brain is a

0:07:06 > 0:07:12thing?I have had this for the last 15 years, it is constant fudge,

0:07:12 > 0:07:20total everyday.I don't want to get myself into any bother, but...Hang

0:07:20 > 0:07:32on. I'm moving away.I have a wife. It is tougher for you.I have

0:07:32 > 0:07:35witnessed it first hand but some people might say it is a self

0:07:35 > 0:07:43fulfilling prophecy.I'm not even looking at him now, Alex.Don't

0:07:43 > 0:07:52punch me in the head. So, Eurovision: You Decide... It is a

0:07:52 > 0:07:59thing.I know it's a thing.Much worse with a lack of sleep. Anyway,

0:07:59 > 0:08:05Eurovision: You Decide, you were doing that. There are six nominees,

0:08:05 > 0:08:12is this a good list?It is.Familiar faces there.There are actually.

0:08:12 > 0:08:16I've got a very good feeling about this, but I say this every year.

0:08:16 > 0:08:22LAUGHTER Yes, you do.I'm the internal

0:08:22 > 0:08:26optimist about Eurovision but surely, it's been 21 years --

0:08:26 > 0:08:29eternal optimist will stop, on.

0:08:30 > 0:08:35I feel good about this year because there are some really good quite

0:08:35 > 0:08:44trendy... Is that a word these days? Yes, that is still out there. But

0:08:44 > 0:08:49there are some really good very upbeat very positive cool songs.

0:08:49 > 0:08:55Cool and trendy. Your co-host can provide that from 2015, the winner

0:08:55 > 0:09:04from that year.He is really good. Mans Zelmerlow. We are glad you said

0:09:04 > 0:09:09that because we couldn't read that on the bit of paper. It is not a

0:09:09 > 0:09:16type of bread. He's amazing. He's amazing, that was him when he was

0:09:16 > 0:09:23victorious in 2015, doing heroes. He has got that Scandinavian

0:09:23 > 0:09:28laid-back... He is a great presenter and a great singer and I think it

0:09:28 > 0:09:33will be great. Brighton Dome, where we are doing it, it will go berserk

0:09:33 > 0:09:43when he steps on stage. That is a big coup to have the winner.I think

0:09:43 > 0:09:52in Mans Zelmerlow, we need a round of applause for teeth of the year.

0:09:52 > 0:09:59Oh my gosh.APPLAUSE You can do your make up in those

0:09:59 > 0:10:09teeth.Do you? When the little BT 's are on. -- when the little BTs.He's

0:10:09 > 0:10:16a lovely guy, actually. Also excited that you are back in the West End.

0:10:16 > 0:10:25Oh! Slightly nervous when you say that.I got hot, as well.I feel a

0:10:25 > 0:10:29bit... It is really exciting, I've been asked to do a Stephen Sondheim

0:10:29 > 0:10:36musical. I'm gripping furniture as we speak, but of course he is the

0:10:36 > 0:10:45dawn of musical theatre. It is not just singing for your character,

0:10:45 > 0:10:53they also do jujitsu.Yes, I have to do jujitsu and speak in an American

0:10:53 > 0:10:59accent. Company is the name of the musical and he wrote this in 1970

0:10:59 > 0:11:03and is iconic, it is about love and life and marriage in New York. So

0:11:03 > 0:11:12exciting for the possibilities. We know you can sing, are you most

0:11:12 > 0:11:19excited about the singing or jujitsu?The singing.We need to

0:11:19 > 0:11:27work on that a bit.Do you do any martial arts?No. Maybe a bit of

0:11:27 > 0:11:41judo.That is all the same. Karate, the same.I have got to

0:11:41 > 0:11:43the same.I have got to pretend -- throw my pretend husband around, but

0:11:43 > 0:11:47also some Shakespeare before that, at the Kingston Rose Theatre in

0:11:47 > 0:11:56April and May. I'm sorry to talk about only myself or

0:12:00 > 0:12:02From the dulcet tones of Eurovision to a much

0:12:02 > 0:12:05less pleasant sound.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08A noisy train station isn't much of a treat for anyone's ears -

0:12:08 > 0:12:10but Richard Mainwaring's on track to make our commute

0:12:10 > 0:12:15a little more melodious.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17when it comes to railway station announcement the UK is not exactly

0:12:17 > 0:12:22at the cutting edge. Other countries have exploited the creative

0:12:22 > 0:12:29potential of this musical interruption. In Hungary you have a

0:12:29 > 0:12:37nice tune and the same in France. But in the UK it is often something

0:12:37 > 0:12:43more boring. Birmingham new Street Station is the biggest outside

0:12:43 > 0:12:48London and the busiest and it has recently undergone a face-lift, so

0:12:48 > 0:12:56is it time for a musical change as well? Doctor Kelly is a music

0:12:56 > 0:13:03psychologist. What is attractive in a jingle to commuters waiting in a

0:13:03 > 0:13:09station?Things that are quite upbeat and that give you extra

0:13:09 > 0:13:14energy, things in a major key, simple melodies. Maybe also music

0:13:14 > 0:13:19that is not so simple that it gets a bit boring after a while. That in

0:13:19 > 0:13:23mind, it is time to give it a go, I'm going to create a brand-new

0:13:23 > 0:13:28jingle for new Street station, the team have just one request, it needs

0:13:28 > 0:13:34to be around three seconds long, but I wanted to feel like something

0:13:34 > 0:13:38Birmingham can be proud of, that reminds them of where they are.

0:13:38 > 0:13:46Birmingham is famous in many things, ten hours, the mini, chocolate, but

0:13:46 > 0:13:49it is also the birthplace of heavy metal --

0:13:52 > 0:13:55bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest all have links to the city

0:13:55 > 0:14:00and surrounding areas so what better homage than a metal inspired melody

0:14:00 > 0:14:07for the station? I meeting the lead guitarist from Black Sabbath for

0:14:07 > 0:14:13inspiration. -- I meeting. What is it about Birmingham that inspired

0:14:13 > 0:14:19heavy metal? My factory was in a factory doing sheet metalwork and

0:14:19 > 0:14:25welding, and so all day you would hear clunk clunk bang, wallop, and I

0:14:25 > 0:14:31could put a rift to that. What about the landscape of Birmingham? That

0:14:31 > 0:14:41affected you?Big-time, there were areas which were like

0:14:43 > 0:14:46areas which were like a bomb site, after the Second World War.I've

0:14:46 > 0:14:51been working on this jingle for Birmingham new Street station and

0:14:51 > 0:14:55I'm scared about playing this to you.

0:14:57 > 0:15:07It is better than the bing bong. That is a good start. ROCK MUSIC

0:15:07 > 0:15:11several versions later and it is time for the big reveal, 3:30pm and

0:15:11 > 0:15:17my jingle is about to go live to thousands at the station.

0:15:19 > 0:15:25ROCK MUSICfor your safety and comfort this station operates a no

0:15:25 > 0:15:32smoking policy.ROCK MUSIC sounds good to me but what about the people

0:15:32 > 0:15:39using the station? What did you think?Not a fan.LAUGHTER

0:15:39 > 0:15:48It's only got my attention.I'm a big heavy metal fan so I liked it.

0:15:48 > 0:15:53The person I need to impress is the station manager. Is it a keeper?

0:15:53 > 0:15:59Honestly, I'm not sure.Will you keep it for a week?I'm afraid not,

0:15:59 > 0:16:07no.Tomorrow?OK.Not quite the permanent fixture I was hoping for,

0:16:07 > 0:16:10sadly, but who knows, it might inspire other stations to mix up

0:16:10 > 0:16:15their melodies.

0:16:17 > 0:16:21Epic fail. CHUCKLES

0:16:21 > 0:16:27But from a trainman to a starman now - and the late, great David Bowie.

0:16:27 > 0:16:32I was always quite a shy kid.I didn't come alive on stage. I was

0:16:32 > 0:16:37even more shy. But I found that I did not get so shy if I adopted a

0:16:37 > 0:16:37character.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40This is in fact not a recording of the man himself,

0:16:40 > 0:16:43but the vocal talents of Jon Culshaw - who joins us now.

0:16:43 > 0:16:44Round of applause for Jon!

0:16:44 > 0:16:49APPLAUSE

0:16:49 > 0:16:54Uncanny, Jon. It is amazing to listen to. I

0:16:54 > 0:16:59listened to it on the train. After ten minutes I had forgotten it was

0:16:59 > 0:17:02you. It's different for you. It is in the comedy side of things. This

0:17:02 > 0:17:06is a serious, dramatic performance. It was a lovely experience to just

0:17:06 > 0:17:12really get close. It into your scrutinising mode of a wonderful

0:17:12 > 0:17:19person like David Bowie. Such an uplifting experience. Genius is an

0:17:19 > 0:17:22inadequate word. Brilliant in the blink of an eye that he was capable

0:17:22 > 0:17:29of. To have a closer study.And he was funny.Hugely funny. An

0:17:29 > 0:17:34effortless wit.They laughed at himself, as well. Brilliant.You did

0:17:34 > 0:17:37the voice before this opportunity came along. He must've had pressured

0:17:37 > 0:17:41to really listen and find those differences that would make it that

0:17:41 > 0:17:49tiny bit more special for something like this. -- you must have had

0:17:49 > 0:17:55pressure.To get that spoken, relaxed, conversational version is

0:17:55 > 0:18:01way over here.Did you strip it back?I listened to a lot of

0:18:01 > 0:18:05interviews, lots of recordings. I really absorbed it. One useful thing

0:18:05 > 0:18:08was to listen to his interviews. Just as you are drifting off to

0:18:08 > 0:18:15sleep.Really?Bit of osmosis.A little bit.You are sitting next to

0:18:15 > 0:18:27a super fan. Have either of you seen Darkest Hour? Not yet.Gary Oldman

0:18:27 > 0:18:30portrayed Winston Churchill. Afterwards he said he was terrified

0:18:30 > 0:18:34of doing it because it was Winston Churchill. His wife persuaded him to

0:18:34 > 0:18:36do it. Did you feel the same way? Yellow

0:18:40 > 0:18:45it was daunting. But a daunting you want to run towards, rather than

0:18:45 > 0:18:48back away from. David Morley, who wrote the script, who is a massive

0:18:48 > 0:18:52David Bowie fan and expert, it felt very natural to do the words he had

0:18:52 > 0:18:57written. And Dirk Maggs, the director.He is amazing.He makes

0:18:57 > 0:19:06movies on radio.Yeah.They provided a nice space in which to do it.You

0:19:06 > 0:19:14liked it, and you Agaba.I was crying.

0:19:16 > 0:19:28crying. -- Mel liked it, and you are a bar.Black Star brought out his

0:19:28 > 0:19:39dominance.Brilliant album. It is called The Last Take. It is on the

0:19:39 > 0:19:43BBC World Service and the iPlayer. We always get you to do impressions.

0:19:43 > 0:19:51Is that even your voice you are using to light?Yes. We are going to

0:19:51 > 0:19:59give you the night off of doing impressions.Mel, we have been doing

0:19:59 > 0:20:02some digging. We have found moments where you have been doing some

0:20:02 > 0:20:19impressions. Jon, we want you to identify what Mel is playing.Hang

0:20:19 > 0:20:28on.What do you think? That is either Janet Street Porter or a

0:20:28 > 0:20:40Dalek.Not bad! It is a Dalek.My biggest enemy for years.He's good.

0:20:40 > 0:20:47Next one...Oh, God.

0:20:50 > 0:20:56I've absolutely no memory of that. With a pair of pants on the head.

0:20:56 > 0:21:06What the heck!It is neither Dustin Hoffman or an unknown of duck.I

0:21:06 > 0:21:12have no idea, genuinely. It is, in fact, Marlon Brando. Is he in your

0:21:12 > 0:21:16repertoire?I'm studying that at the moment. I am doing a project at the

0:21:16 > 0:21:23moment.Do you use cotton wool?I don't think so. It might help

0:21:23 > 0:21:28initially to get you started. CHUCKLES

0:21:28 > 0:21:30Lets do the last one.Oh, dear will

0:21:32 > 0:21:37even if it does mean bumping into the bald ginger one, how's Adam?

0:21:40 > 0:21:46Again, no idea. This is niche. This is tougher. But it is somebody

0:21:46 > 0:21:55from one of our beloved soap opera is.Is it Sonia? It rhymes with

0:21:55 > 0:21:57Sonia. It is run

0:22:00 > 0:22:05Jon, I'm sorry, that must be awful for you to watch that. They were

0:22:05 > 0:22:12very amusing caricatures. Very charming.It's good fun.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14To announce our next film, we've asked Meghan Markle

0:22:14 > 0:22:15to do the honours.

0:22:15 > 0:22:21Meghan.

0:22:21 > 0:22:24Well, that was a bit amateur.

0:22:24 > 0:22:25Let me do it, Meghan.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27Tony's in Invergordon now meeting two men whose appetites

0:22:27 > 0:22:35are as big as their muscles.

0:22:36 > 0:22:42This is a shopping trip with a difference. You would think a

0:22:42 > 0:22:46trolley full of food like this would feed a family of four for a month,

0:22:46 > 0:22:50but for two brothers from Invergordon in a shop like this

0:22:50 > 0:22:57would be lucky to last a week. I need a hand to take all of this out

0:22:57 > 0:23:02of the car. Cheers, lads. Luke and Tom are currently training to

0:23:02 > 0:23:07compete for the title of this year's Britain's Strongest Man. They

0:23:07 > 0:23:12consume up to 10,000 calories a day. To help them with their final

0:23:12 > 0:23:17preparations I am going to cook them something very special. I am going

0:23:17 > 0:23:23to make you a nice risotto with pork tenderloin. Loads of protein, good

0:23:23 > 0:23:31fats. Beans, as well. And some nuts. Luke has been Scotland boss like a

0:23:35 > 0:23:41in at nearly 24 stone.I started training when I was 16. It was

0:23:41 > 0:23:45basically in the gym. I carried on through that with my working life,

0:25:08 > 0:25:16big men come pick bills. £300 a week goes on food. And one of their

0:25:16 > 0:25:23biggest supporters is Luke's wife. What is it like being a professional

0:25:23 > 0:25:27strongman's wife?It isn't your usual relationship. I don't know who

0:25:27 > 0:25:33he loves more commonly or the gym. They eat a lot of food. They do. --

0:25:52 > 0:25:55they get lots of looks when they walk on the streets. For these

0:25:55 > 0:26:01mountainous men I have prepared a mountainous meal. You are looking at

0:26:01 > 0:26:05feeding about ten people here. The amount of cheese, butter. The stock

0:26:05 > 0:26:09is rich. This is just one of the six meals they will be eating today.

0:26:09 > 0:26:17It's baked pork loin, risotto, guacamole, and compared to my
