0:00:11 > 0:00:14Hello and welcome to The One Show with Alex Jones...
0:00:14 > 0:00:16And Matt Baker.
0:00:16 > 0:00:21Thanks to everyone who has already sent in nominations
0:00:21 > 0:00:24for our Health Awards.
0:00:24 > 0:00:30We've had about 1000 already. Fantastic.
0:00:30 > 0:00:32We're running it with The Patients' Association.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34We're off to a great start.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37It's terrific to see that so many people want to nominate NHS staff
0:00:37 > 0:00:42Almost 1000 since last night when we mentioned it.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45You can go to our website to see the categories
0:00:45 > 0:00:46and all the details of how to enter.
0:00:46 > 0:00:49We can't accept letters so if you are not on the internet
0:00:49 > 0:00:52please ask a friend who is to help you out.
0:00:52 > 0:00:55Our guest tonight was born in New York and made his name in LA,
0:00:55 > 0:00:58but he's just as well-known on this side of the pond.
0:00:58 > 0:01:00Yeah, and long before Harry and Meghan, he was angling
0:01:00 > 0:01:03for a trans-Atlantic royal romance of his own...
0:01:03 > 0:01:09Can I say how deeply hurt I was that you didn't choose to kiss me
0:01:09 > 0:01:17earlier, Stephen?LAUGHTER Thank you!
0:01:17 > 0:01:25That's the first time I've ever kissed a member of the Royal family!
0:01:27 > 0:01:30Pucker up everybody, it's Cuba Gooding Jr!CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:01:30 > 0:01:41Hello.He never calls!Ian Evatt calls. He is nearly royalty but not
0:01:41 > 0:01:45quite, Stephen Fry. What about Harry and Megan? Everyone is getting
0:01:45 > 0:01:52excited here. What is it like on your side of the pond?I don't know,
0:01:52 > 0:01:57I'm here. I'm sure the
0:02:00 > 0:02:02I'm here. I'm sure the buzz... Everyone in my life is like, can't
0:02:02 > 0:02:05wait to get over their and see it. It's enough to make you want to
0:02:05 > 0:02:14quit!Did you manage to catch the Oscars?I did.Frances McDormand,
0:02:14 > 0:02:18the words she wanted everyone to hear with inclusion riders. Aiming
0:02:18 > 0:02:21for equality. That is something that is being talked a lot about in
0:02:21 > 0:02:27Hollywood?You know, listen... I was interviewed extensively when they
0:02:27 > 0:02:34did the Oscars. People with different sides of the opinion, but
0:02:34 > 0:02:37at the end of the day it is a conversation that starts change and
0:02:37 > 0:02:41that is all we are trying to do, talk about something, talk about an
0:02:41 > 0:02:47issue, and even if it is just a subtle change, even if it's someone
0:02:47 > 0:02:52being more accountable for their involvement in diversity and what
0:02:52 > 0:02:53not, it's a good thing structure absolutely.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55When the fox hunting ban came into effect
0:02:55 > 0:02:58in England and Wales in 2005, it might have seemed like the debate
0:02:58 > 0:02:59on the issue was over.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01But 13 years later, tensions continue.
0:03:01 > 0:03:0440,000 people still take part in trail or drag hunts every year,
0:03:04 > 0:03:07saying they are a vital part of the rural way of life.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10And the anti-hunt movement is still active too,
0:03:10 > 0:03:11but their tactics have changed.
0:03:11 > 0:03:17Here's Joe.
0:03:21 > 0:03:2463-year-old teacher Lesley is used to keeping a close eye on her pupils
0:03:24 > 0:03:28but in her spare time, attention turns to the activities of those who
0:03:28 > 0:03:33hunt with in Cheshire. We have it on film, you better called off right
0:03:33 > 0:03:39now!You are getting on my way so I can't.And today I am joining her as
0:03:39 > 0:03:45she monitors a local trail hunt. And her colleagues at not Sam Hunt
0:03:45 > 0:03:50Summit of the volunteers who follow various fronts and if there is any
0:03:50 > 0:03:53evidence of illegal activity, they hope to capture it. The hunting ban
0:03:53 > 0:03:58has been in place for the last 30 years and prohibits the hunting
0:03:58 > 0:04:03foxes with a pack of hounds but the hounds are allowed to trail hunt,
0:04:03 > 0:04:08tracing a scent laid down before the takes place.
0:04:08 > 0:04:13The monitors claim the evidence they gathered shows that foxes are being
0:04:13 > 0:04:17intentionally hunted. The hunt organisers say foxes are sometimes
0:04:17 > 0:04:21killed but it is always by accident during a trail hunt. We filmed the
0:04:21 > 0:04:25organisers laying the trail for today's comps but Leslie is
0:04:25 > 0:04:31sceptical that has any effect.The hounds don't show any interest,
0:04:31 > 0:04:37never, ever. It is a bruise.Goes on the hunt would disagree. What is
0:04:37 > 0:04:41your relationship like with the hunt? They probably see me as a boil
0:04:41 > 0:04:45that needs popping.Tension and suspicion is high on both sides.
0:04:45 > 0:04:49Everyone seems to be recording what the other is doing. This group, who
0:04:49 > 0:04:53are part of the hunt, are riding quad bikes and concealing their
0:04:53 > 0:04:58faces. Who are the people with covered faces? They are terrier men.
0:04:58 > 0:05:03If the fox goes to ground in a badger set or fox earth, the
0:05:03 > 0:05:09Terriers are put down the hole to get the fox up so the hunt can carry
0:05:09 > 0:05:14on chasing it.But speculation is not enough, monitors have to prove
0:05:14 > 0:05:17foxes are being actively pursued or killed deliberately. Some of their
0:05:17 > 0:05:23footage is under review by the CPS and police say there are two formal
0:05:23 > 0:05:27investigations as a direct result of monitor footage. How hard is it to
0:05:27 > 0:05:32gather evidence? We have do have what we call the money shot, which
0:05:32 > 0:05:36is the fox fleeing. The other is the hounds chasing the fox and the third
0:05:36 > 0:05:50main one is the Huntsman showing in tents, using voice or horn calls.
0:05:50 > 0:05:52tents, using voice or horn calls. We are all those three elements in one
0:05:52 > 0:05:53shot. You can imagine how difficult that
0:05:53 > 0:05:57is. With the hunt in full swing, Cheshire police arrived to keep an
0:05:57 > 0:05:58eye on things. The force is under review following complaints over the
0:05:58 > 0:06:00way alleged hunting crimes are investigated. They told us
0:06:00 > 0:06:04logistically policing a hunt is extremely difficult and they work
0:06:04 > 0:06:08with both sides to minimise any illegal activity. Three hours into
0:06:08 > 0:06:13the hunt on the monitors claim to have spotted hounds chasing a fox in
0:06:13 > 0:06:18a badger sets. They say they often use the mother place to hide. All of
0:06:18 > 0:06:22these have been filled in.That looks fresh.The monitors believe
0:06:22 > 0:06:25the hunt does it on purpose so the fox has nowhere to hide but they
0:06:25 > 0:06:29have no way of proving it was deliberately filled in and it is
0:06:29 > 0:06:34strongly denied by those on the hunt. The fox ran from that
0:06:34 > 0:06:39direction and then the whole field came and we tried to protect the
0:06:39 > 0:06:47badger set from more damage. We were saying no, this is a badger set. No,
0:06:47 > 0:06:53no one laughing at us.Filling in a badger set is a wildlife crime with
0:06:53 > 0:06:57a six-month prison sentence and hefty fine if caught. But with no
0:06:57 > 0:07:01evidence on film, the monitors have no way of knowing who is
0:07:01 > 0:07:04responsible. We've been pursuing the hunt for about four and a half hours
0:07:04 > 0:07:08now. Whether you think what's going on is illegal or not, to observe it
0:07:08 > 0:07:11and check what is happening is tricky, because there are only a
0:07:11 > 0:07:14couple of points when you can come across them and see what they are
0:07:14 > 0:07:25actually doing. Today's
0:07:28 > 0:07:30event run by the Cheshire Hunt. We approached them for an interview but
0:07:30 > 0:07:33they asked the Countryside Alliance to speak on their behalf. How
0:07:33 > 0:07:36closely did the hunt followed the law today? To the letter, it's the
0:07:36 > 0:07:38law.Why do they get masked terrier men? They are only masked because
0:07:38 > 0:07:41they are on a quad bike and it's to protect them. They repair the
0:07:41 > 0:07:43countryside. They have the equipment to late trails in their boxes and
0:07:43 > 0:07:46mend fences because that is their job. They can access parts of the
0:07:46 > 0:07:50country that you can't get to one foot. Was about the allegations of
0:07:50 > 0:07:55filling in badger sets? There's a lot of CCTV on a number of badger
0:07:55 > 0:07:58sets around the country they will find out who's doing but it is not a
0:07:58 > 0:08:03hunt directive at all. It is very convenient it happened on the date
0:08:03 > 0:08:06the cameras are out of the monitors. Who's to say they didn't do it
0:08:06 > 0:08:10themselves?A suggestion strongly denied by the monitors. In Cheshire,
0:08:10 > 0:08:14the hunt is drawing to a close and although they didn't capture
0:08:14 > 0:08:17evidence of illegal fox hunting for Leslie it is still a day well spent.
0:08:17 > 0:08:24We don't just come out to get of illegal hunting. In my view, even if
0:08:24 > 0:08:28the monitors save one fox in a day, it is worth it.Joe Lewis here to
0:08:28 > 0:08:30speak about this a bit more.
0:08:30 > 0:08:36With these film clips that are taken, has anyone been arrested or
0:08:36 > 0:08:39prosecuted?There have been a number of cases where there have been
0:08:39 > 0:08:45successful prosecutions on the back of filming. In Oxfordshire, it was
0:08:45 > 0:08:47successfully proved using footage gathered over several days that
0:08:47 > 0:08:53hounds were being encouraged to pursue foxes. The organisers were
0:08:53 > 0:08:56find thousands of pounds. In Somerset also, and for the first
0:08:56 > 0:09:00time last year, a prosecution in Scotland, where footage was
0:09:00 > 0:09:04instrumental in improving illegal fox hunting was taking place. But,
0:09:04 > 0:09:08and there is a big but, there's always two sides to everything.
0:09:08 > 0:09:12Given the amount of hunts going out and hunting days, there are and have
0:09:12 > 0:09:16been very few prosecutions for fox hunting. The other thing is it is
0:09:16 > 0:09:22not just fox hunts who fall foul of the law. The cyber tours and
0:09:22 > 0:09:29monitors have been found guilty in certain circumstances.
0:09:29 > 0:09:32certain circumstances. Sabateurs were found guilty of trespass.
0:09:32 > 0:09:36Another monitor in Wales was found guilty of assault and intimidating a
0:09:36 > 0:09:41hunt member. It is heated and there is violence and abuse on both sides.
0:09:41 > 0:09:46Collusion.We will leave it there. Huber, we will talk about Chicago
0:09:46 > 0:09:48very shortly.
0:09:48 > 0:09:50First, a few hours ago...
0:09:50 > 0:09:51This was me.
0:09:51 > 0:09:55That's a cold water test.
0:09:55 > 0:09:59For cold water swimming. I'm doing a challenge and they say you have to
0:09:59 > 0:10:06do the test before you take part. Brothers don't like the cold!It was
0:10:06 > 0:10:10freezing.You looked really calm, it bodes well.I was like a swan with
0:10:10 > 0:10:16the legs going manic.Poker face, bodes well for Loch Ness. At least
0:10:16 > 0:10:22you're not doing this alone. This is the whole point.
0:10:22 > 0:10:28We find out about the motivation driving the mother of all
0:10:28 > 0:10:32This year our sport challenge will be a tough one so I'm relieved I
0:10:32 > 0:10:37won't be alone. And with just a few weeks to go before it begins, it is
0:10:37 > 0:10:42time for me to meet my team-mates. Have you been training?Yeah...
0:10:42 > 0:10:48Yeah, but only for the last five weeks.Five weeks?Prior to that I
0:10:48 > 0:10:53was sat on the couch for 50 years! Why did you choose to do it?For me
0:10:53 > 0:10:57it was the fact my whole life I've never finished anything. When I saw
0:10:57 > 0:11:05this, I was like, this is my thing. My name is Jodi, I'm 29 and I live
0:11:05 > 0:11:16with my partner Ben. I have two sons. When I first it was quite
0:11:16 > 0:11:19dramatic, I lost a lot of blood and they handed me me this baby and I
0:11:19 > 0:11:25didn't know him.Jodi struggled to bond with her baby because of this
0:11:25 > 0:11:32pressure she and his split up.I was in this place where it was very
0:11:32 > 0:11:38dark. I was very isolated. I felt so alone. I just didn't have that
0:11:38 > 0:11:43connection. You feel you should have, as a mother, and that
0:11:43 > 0:11:50continued until he was about two years old and I met Ben.With the
0:11:50 > 0:11:52help of Ben Jodi fought her postnatal depression and after six
0:11:52 > 0:11:57years she fell pregnant again.I started becoming obsessed with
0:11:57 > 0:12:02getting their baby out. I would stand at the top of the stairs and
0:12:02 > 0:12:07think, if I just fell down the stairs, they'd have to take me to
0:12:07 > 0:12:10hospital. I went in to see the consultant and she just took one
0:12:10 > 0:12:17look at me and went, we need to get this baby out, now. They gave meet
0:12:17 > 0:12:23him and I held him and I loved him. It was like this just lifted off my
0:12:23 > 0:12:30head. I came home and Taylor was made to be a Big Brother. I suddenly
0:12:30 > 0:12:37felt like a mother. It helps me. It gave me a chance to try and, what I
0:12:37 > 0:12:45felt, fixed some of the damage I'd done, and that wasAll of our mums
0:12:45 > 0:12:47taking part have experienced some difficulty on their journey of
0:12:47 > 0:12:54motherhood. I think a group of mothers are the most capable because
0:12:54 > 0:12:58we deal with so much on a daily basis.I think more than anything, I
0:12:58 > 0:13:02just felt like I wanted to do something for me. I had IVF and
0:13:02 > 0:13:05nobody would talk about it or they would back off as if it was a bit of
0:13:05 > 0:13:11a taboo. I was like, let's talk about it.Leigh from Glasgow had a
0:13:11 > 0:13:14normal pregnancy with her first son Ross and after meeting her new
0:13:14 > 0:13:19husband Colin found they had problems conceiving. To find out
0:13:19 > 0:13:23that you can't get pregnant naturally, it's quite devastating.
0:13:23 > 0:13:28One of the options available to us was IVF treatment. So when I went
0:13:28 > 0:13:32along and had my scan, the doctor was looking at the monitor, she
0:13:32 > 0:13:36wasn't seeing what she would expect to see at that stage. Unfortunately
0:13:36 > 0:13:42it was a miscarriage. I was devastated. I couldn't stop crying.
0:13:42 > 0:13:47It was like grief. To be honest, it was like a child dying, I can't
0:13:47 > 0:13:51describe it as anything else. Once I was able to talk about it, I talked
0:13:51 > 0:13:54about it until I was raw and I didn't think anyone would listen
0:13:54 > 0:14:00because that is my form of therapy. I was like, let's go again. And it
0:14:00 > 0:14:08worked. I had twins, Freya and Ethan. Our mums want to help raise
0:14:08 > 0:14:11as much money for Sport Relief as they can, and I am going to help
0:14:11 > 0:14:17them. But it is not going to be easy, as part of their training
0:14:17 > 0:14:21ready for Loch Ness they first had to face the chilly temperatures of
0:14:21 > 0:14:27this lake.It is incredibly tough even for seasoned open water
0:14:27 > 0:14:33swimmers. It is absolute purgatory.
0:14:33 > 0:14:40I couldn't get a breath.As soon as the waves came, I was panicking.I
0:14:40 > 0:14:43got through it, and to see the other girls just going for it I was like,
0:14:43 > 0:14:49I'm not getting left behind!I'm more worried about this one than any
0:14:49 > 0:14:53other Sport Relief challenge. I just hope the girls and I will become a
0:14:53 > 0:15:01team.I love being part of a group. Can't believe how cold it was!I
0:15:01 > 0:15:05think as a team we will be really strong together. We might have
0:15:05 > 0:15:09struggled to be the mothers we thought we were going to be. It
0:15:09 > 0:15:12doesn't matter. You can do absolutely anything. Failure is not
0:15:12 > 0:15:18an option.
0:15:18 > 0:15:25Strong words to finish on.As you can see, these girls are very
0:15:25 > 0:15:30motivated. Thank you to them for talking about subjects that are very
0:15:30 > 0:15:34difficult, especially being so honest about it.
0:15:34 > 0:15:37To support the Mother of All Challenges and make
0:15:37 > 0:15:39a donation to Sport Relief you can donate £5 by texting
0:15:39 > 0:15:41the word MUM to 70205.
0:15:41 > 0:15:45To donate £10, text the word MUM to 70210.
0:15:45 > 0:15:48Or, if you're feeling particularly generous, you can donate £25,
0:15:48 > 0:15:52by texting the word MUM to 70220.
0:15:52 > 0:15:59Show me the money!Cuba's on it!
0:15:59 > 0:16:02Texts will cost your donation plus your standard network message
0:16:02 > 0:16:04charge and all your donation will go to Sport Relief.
0:16:04 > 0:16:07You must be 16 or over and please ask the bill payer's permission.
0:16:07 > 0:16:10For full terms and conditions, or to donate any amount online,
0:16:10 > 0:16:11go to bbc.co.uk/sportrelief.
0:16:11 > 0:16:16And while we're talking mothers, congratulations to Angela who has
0:16:16 > 0:16:24just given birth to a daughter - Ruby.
0:16:24 > 0:16:29If you are watching, Angela, congratulations and lots of love.
0:16:29 > 0:16:34I'm very nervous about this challenge. The question is, how are
0:16:34 > 0:16:42you feeling, Cuba Gooding Jr near, about this?Oh, yes. In three weeks'
0:16:42 > 0:16:48time, that would be you, sir. It's like we're in rehearsals. This is
0:16:48 > 0:16:52something else.
0:16:52 > 0:16:58Yesterday was the first day of rehearsals.Yesterday was the first
0:16:58 > 0:17:03day. Horrifying! It's just terrifying because everybody is
0:17:03 > 0:17:09nervous. OK, what's he going to do? Can he sing. We know he can dance
0:17:09 > 0:17:16and has energy but can he sing? And I'm, do they think I can sing? You
0:17:16 > 0:17:21just go and you create a character and you meet people who all want you
0:17:21 > 0:17:25to win and you want to win for them and the family is created and we
0:17:25 > 0:17:31bring a little soul to it.A lot of people have played Billy Flynn, a
0:17:31 > 0:17:40real smoothie.Not like this!We've had John Barrowman, David
0:17:40 > 0:17:47Hasselhoff, Richard Gere. The King of smooth.Amateurs! We know that
0:17:47 > 0:17:52Richard Gere can't really sing and dance but are you bringing some soul
0:17:52 > 0:17:59to it?We've got a lot of love down there. We're moving. I guess there
0:17:59 > 0:18:04were a couple of touring companies around the UK and we have taken the
0:18:04 > 0:18:09best of the best and surrounded by these wonderful men and women. It's
0:18:09 > 0:18:17like one fluid, vocal... You know. Thing. You did grow up in a very
0:18:17 > 0:18:23musical family. Both of your parents were singers.I did. The main
0:18:23 > 0:18:37ingredient, Cuba Gooding Jr senior. My mother, her opening act was a
0:18:37 > 0:18:43little group called Diana Ross and the Supremes. Their group, the
0:18:43 > 0:18:49sweethearts disbanded when they got pregnant and they were replaced by a
0:18:49 > 0:18:55Diana Ross and the Supremes. We know you are an incredible break dancer.
0:18:55 > 0:18:59This is the kind of stuff that potentially Cuba will be bringing to
0:18:59 > 0:19:03the West End.
0:19:15 > 0:19:22APPLAUSE You're obviously going to have some
0:19:22 > 0:19:28kind of Lycra put into your taxi dough.Billy Flynn is cool. He
