:00:55. > :01:00.Hello and welcome to The One Show, live from Cardiff! APPLAUSE

:01:00. > :01:08.And a very big thank you to Only Boys Aloud. They are great.

:01:08. > :01:14.Now, then, at 6.30am, the Team Rickshaw started its epic journey

:01:14. > :01:18.from Swansea to Cardiff, 53 miles. They have faced winds, rain,

:01:18. > :01:22.massive hills, it has not been easy, but shortly they are riding in

:01:23. > :01:27.through that gate over there at the entrance of the castle. To welcome

:01:27. > :01:34.them tonight, a guest who is to make this city his home for the

:01:34. > :01:37.next few months, it is Joe Pasquale! How are you, Joe? I have

:01:37. > :01:46.the sniffles it is so cold. I know.

:01:46. > :01:51.This is Wales, mind. You have the Eskimo boots and coat

:01:51. > :01:56.I know. Now, what do you think of the challenge? I can't believe they

:01:56. > :02:00.have done the 59 miles. In that weather, you know what the hills

:02:00. > :02:06.are like. It is like erest here. It is tough. Do you think you could

:02:06. > :02:09.take on a challenge like that? not on my own. It would take me a

:02:09. > :02:14.week. I think they will get to London before Friday.

:02:14. > :02:18.It will be tough. They will definitely get there by London it

:02:18. > :02:24.has been a tough time, though. Here is the story so far.

:02:24. > :02:26.Early on Saturday morning, they kick off the second day of the

:02:26. > :02:32.rickshaw challenge. The scenery is outstanding.

:02:32. > :02:36.This is different, isn't it? Yes, there is hardly any green where I

:02:36. > :02:43.live it is all concrete. Would you come here again? Maybe

:02:43. > :02:47.not on a rickshaw! But, Jamilla begins to suffer with cramps, it

:02:47. > :02:53.means an unscheduled stop for her to recover.

:02:53. > :03:00.Stop for a leg stretch. Lift one leg up like that. You are doing

:03:00. > :03:02.brilliantly. Ten or 15 minutes. But she recovers and hands over to

:03:02. > :03:08.Darren. It is nice to have the support from

:03:08. > :03:15.the public. To know that they are behind us. That is spurring us on.

:03:15. > :03:22.If you have not given money, why not?! The route was to cycle over

:03:22. > :03:29.50 miles a day, up to Swansea to finish on Monday night in Cardiff.

:03:29. > :03:34.We are travelling through the most br breathtaking landscape. It is

:03:34. > :03:39.looks gorgeous, but it is bad news on the thighs. This morning Jamilla

:03:39. > :03:45.did a great job, now Darren is on the saddle. Nice and gentle on the

:03:45. > :03:49.legs. Turn slowly. That is great. Can you feel the burn? Yeah! Good

:03:49. > :03:52.boy. Soon, even with Darren in high spirits, it all becomes a little

:03:52. > :03:57.too much. How much do we have to go? A little

:03:57. > :04:06.bit of a hill, but there are four people behind you, pushing! OK? Do

:04:06. > :04:10.you want me to sing to you? # Take me home, country roads. #

:04:10. > :04:13.Anyone got earplugs. The support from the public was

:04:13. > :04:20.amazing. It gave James a bounce in his step.

:04:20. > :04:26.Right, turn the legs! All right, come on. Check it out. Look at

:04:26. > :04:32.this! Special delivery for the rain-maker. You can't beat dancing

:04:32. > :04:37.in the rain! The rains soon came. So did the night. With a the first

:04:37. > :04:44.major landmark reached. You have the honour of taking Team

:04:44. > :04:49.Rickshaw over the 100 mile mark! There you go! Wow! Keep your hands

:04:49. > :04:54.on the handle bars! That's it. We have had a few upsets within Team

:04:54. > :05:00.Rickshaw. We have had injuries. A lot of tiredness. Jamilla has gone

:05:00. > :05:03.into spasm. She has been with the physio. She cannot start. Team

:05:03. > :05:08.Rickshaw has gone from six riders to seven.. We are bringing in

:05:08. > :05:12.Shannon. Morning, lads! Feel happy, Shannon?

:05:12. > :05:18.Yep. Good! That is the first hill for

:05:18. > :05:22.Shannon. Then I thought it was about time that I showed my support.

:05:22. > :05:30.Thank you, ladies, it is much appreciated.

:05:30. > :05:34.The got the team to drop by my aunt and uncle's house for refreshments.

:05:34. > :05:40.Then, Team Rickshaw were soon back to strength.

:05:40. > :05:47.Feeling more confident? Yes. Before that was a lot for me. I was crying

:05:47. > :05:52.after it. Not of pain, of overwhelm ing feelings. I have never felt

:05:52. > :06:02.that before. What did it feel like? You know when you were a wee kid

:06:02. > :06:07.

:06:07. > :06:17.and you felt so good in yourself, like, with riding a bike? Yes?

:06:17. > :06:21.

:06:21. > :06:25.Go Team GB! Go Team GB! -- go Teem Rickshaw! Indeed, go Teem Rickshaw.

:06:25. > :06:33.Tonight Ciaran is finishing today's leg riding in that gate. So I am

:06:33. > :06:36.joined by Sam, Ciaran's mother, Danny, Ciaran's brother and

:06:36. > :06:42.Ciaran's headteacher. As a family can you believe what Ciaran has

:06:42. > :06:48.been able to achieve over the last four days? No, but I should not be

:06:48. > :06:53.a -- in such surprise, he has always been a fighter, but he has

:06:53. > :06:58.passed all expectations again. It has been hugely emotional, we

:06:58. > :07:02.had a cry in the Singleton Hospital earlier on? Yes, we met the nurses

:07:02. > :07:06.who nursed Ciaran 17 years ago when he was born. I have not seen them

:07:06. > :07:11.for 17 years. That was hugely emotional.

:07:11. > :07:15.What do you make of this, Danny? is great, unbelievable.

:07:15. > :07:21.Did you know that yaur brother could do this from the word -- that

:07:21. > :07:25.your brother could do this from the word go? I had a feeling, but he

:07:25. > :07:29.has been brave. Well, I have a feeling that the

:07:29. > :07:37.riders are coming over that bridge. Everybody, give them a huge round

:07:37. > :07:41.of applause, please. Come on, Ciaran! Ciaran! Ciaran!

:07:42. > :07:48.Yes! Here he is. Now, how does it feel to see your

:07:48. > :07:52.boy coming over that bridge with a Welsh flag around his neck? I have

:07:52. > :07:56.goose pimples all over me. I am shaking. It is like a dream. It is

:07:56. > :08:06.unreal. It is absolutely amazing. I want to

:08:06. > :08:16.run to him. Well, we can! We can go over!

:08:16. > :08:25.

:08:25. > :08:31.Ciaran... Go on. Go on, get in there.

:08:31. > :08:37.Do you want to get off, Ciaran? Is that what you want to do? You get

:08:37. > :08:44.off. Let me help you with those legs. My word, Teem Rickshaw,

:08:44. > :08:48.gather around. Jack you are on this side, you

:08:48. > :08:53.started it off this morning. Now there were a lot of roundabouts and

:08:53. > :08:58.a lot of traffic coming out of Swansea? Yes, there was it was

:08:58. > :09:01.tricky. Traffic on either side. for two days you got up early and

:09:01. > :09:08.you cycled for how long? 14 miles each morning.

:09:08. > :09:14.Then you had the rest of the day off? Yes! He has it good here,

:09:14. > :09:23.hasn't he, Darren? Yeah! We are don day four. We have four days to go.

:09:23. > :09:32.All we have to do is do what you have already done?! Yep! Ciaran,

:09:32. > :09:37.you did the last six to seven miles? Yes.

:09:38. > :09:46.It is great here in Cardiff. It is a really good feeling. We are

:09:46. > :09:51.halfway there already. It has flown by. Thank you to all of these guys.

:09:52. > :09:55.I tell you what, our super six riders have certainly done their

:09:55. > :10:01.bit. Here is how you at home can help.

:10:01. > :10:11.To show your support it really is simple, all you have to do is text

:10:11. > :10:26.

:10:26. > :10:31.Brilliant! Sit yourself down. Hello, Darren! Hello! How has today

:10:31. > :10:35.been for you? A little hard with some of the hills, but I got there.

:10:35. > :10:41.I did it. Now we hear, Darren, that Joe here

:10:42. > :10:45.has taken a shine to you? Oh,? is my favourite. He has done so

:10:46. > :10:52.well. He looks great in the ears, don't

:10:52. > :10:58.you think? I didn't know they were not real! Put them on him! You are

:10:58. > :11:02.going to make Cardiff your home for the next few months? Yes, I am

:11:02. > :11:09.doing panto n at the New Theatre. We are starting on December 8th to

:11:09. > :11:14.January 20th. You are going to come? So we start

:11:14. > :11:20.on December 8th to January 20th. We are throwing everything out. Flying

:11:20. > :11:26.motorbikes. It flies over the audience. I am in it. Lucy Evans is

:11:26. > :11:31.on it. It is a great show. Have you got lots of fancy bits and

:11:31. > :11:37.pieces? Yes, and a little built of Lycra.

:11:37. > :11:43.Do you like that? I do, but do you like panto, Darren? I have seen

:11:43. > :11:48.bits and pieces when I was little with my mum and dad.

:11:48. > :11:55.I suppose, the audiences these days are quite sophisticated, but panto

:11:56. > :12:01.is a traditional format, does it still work? You do, but there is

:12:01. > :12:06.the new technology. There is everything thrown at you. The worst

:12:06. > :12:13.thing about doing the 3D stuff, for the audience it looks great, but on

:12:13. > :12:18.stage, you feel sick. You have the 3D glasses on, you do two

:12:18. > :12:23.performances a day, by the end, you go fruit loop on it.

:12:23. > :12:27.But for me there is no entertainment like it. The

:12:27. > :12:31.beautiful sketches, the timing. has been going hundreds of years,

:12:31. > :12:38.panto. It is a great British tradition. The amount of times you

:12:38. > :12:43.rehearse it, you think it will not work, but then you get on the

:12:43. > :12:50.theatre, then for some reason the magic happens.

:12:50. > :12:54.I presume you are heavily involved in the script? We they let me play

:12:54. > :13:00.with the script. Sometimes I throw it out of the window and I will

:13:00. > :13:06.talk about him for ten minutes. Well not many people know this, but

:13:06. > :13:14.as well as being a tremendous bike rider, Matt was also in panto?

:13:14. > :13:20.have done panto? Yes, I loved it. Are you doing one this year?

:13:20. > :13:24.don't have time. I love the feedback from the

:13:24. > :13:28.audience. A lot of people knock panto, but it is the first time

:13:28. > :13:32.that kids get to see live theatre. Everyone has a video.

:13:32. > :13:40.I took my kids to theatre after they had been to panto, then they

:13:40. > :13:46.started Shadow Shouting in the middle of the real theatre. It was

:13:46. > :13:51.lovely. And in the New Year a new bird -- a

:13:51. > :13:58.little bird tells us you are skating on ice? I don't know. It

:13:58. > :14:03.depends on whether or not it snows. Well, there is a brailt crowd in

:14:03. > :14:13.Cardiff -- brilliant crowd in Cardiff, isn't there? It looks like

:14:13. > :14:14.

:14:14. > :14:20.Hogwarts here. We were expecting our guest to turn

:14:20. > :14:30.up. But he doesn't seem to be here. Do you know where he might be?

:14:30. > :14:36.

:14:36. > :14:40.Come on, take the head off. It's Mike Dilger! You two know each

:14:40. > :14:44.other quite well, they have taken a dip together.

:14:44. > :14:50.Ever since he was a teenager, squeaky voiced comedian Joe

:14:50. > :14:55.Pasquale has had a love of rock. But not the music kind. I always

:14:55. > :14:57.wanted to be a geologist when I was a kid. But I got run over when I

:14:58. > :15:04.was 13 and I missed a year of school. I didn't get any O-levels.

:15:04. > :15:08.I got one in metalwork and one in biology, so I could weld a frog

:15:08. > :15:13.together and that was about it. So I've spent 25 years telling jokes

:15:13. > :15:18.on the road. I wasted so much time, so I started a degree in geo-

:15:18. > :15:24.science and geology. Three years into his studies, his passion has

:15:24. > :15:27.also kick-started a love of biology. I had no interest in anything in

:15:27. > :15:37.terms of science and allies started my course. The first year was a

:15:37. > :15:37.

:15:37. > :15:43.foundation year, I had to do biology, chemistry, astronomy. Then

:15:43. > :15:46.you realise how many species there are. I went to Florida once and

:15:46. > :15:50.touched a dolphin. That was nice. I'm looking forward to seeing

:15:50. > :15:55.something British. We have come to the Isles of Scilly, home to one of

:15:55. > :16:00.our biggest and most graceful aquatic mammals. First, a geology

:16:00. > :16:06.lesson about the islands. Scilly Isles were formed about 300

:16:06. > :16:12.million years ago, through platonic intrusion. It's a load of magma

:16:12. > :16:16.coming through the rock. It is a lava that has not come to the

:16:16. > :16:20.surface. It's the same thing, it is just under ground. I didn't know

:16:20. > :16:27.that, for starters. But what I do know is that the Eastern Isles of

:16:27. > :16:32.Scilly are wear grey seals like to hang out. If you are lucky, they

:16:33. > :16:37.will let you swim with them. There are two! Three! They are really

:16:37. > :16:42.curious. These are all females. Looking forward to getting into the

:16:42. > :16:49.water with them? Where are the male seals? The females are more

:16:49. > :16:54.sociable. Are they the first ones you have seen? Yes, unless it is at

:16:54. > :16:59.the zoo. There are some do's and don'ts before you can swim with

:16:59. > :17:04.them. First, they don't like eye- contact. They tend to swim away

:17:04. > :17:08.quite quickly. If you look slightly past them, or down on them, you can

:17:08. > :17:12.often get closer. The other thing is that they have very good hearing

:17:12. > :17:22.and they don't like high pitched, squeaking noises. What am I doing

:17:22. > :17:31.

:17:31. > :17:35.here? I'll have to start sounding They have sensitive whiskers to

:17:35. > :17:45.pick up movements from swimming fish. And they are curious, which

:17:45. > :17:46.

:17:46. > :17:53.is probably why they are coming to They are all around us, mate.

:17:53. > :17:58.were suing at your flipper. You see how they use their tail to propel

:17:58. > :18:08.themselves? They are so beautiful, effortless in the water. Unlike me

:18:08. > :18:11.

:18:11. > :18:14.They hand out at sea for up to five days at a time. -- hunt. They can

:18:14. > :18:19.dive down to 70 metres and they can stay underwater for around 12

:18:19. > :18:26.minutes to catch fish for dinner. Then they will return to land for a

:18:26. > :18:30.day to rest and digest. I've seen nothing like it. I have seen it on

:18:30. > :18:40.television, I grew up with Jack Christow. It was actually

:18:40. > :18:46.

:18:46. > :18:52.phenomenal, to get that close. Look at the pair of them. Romance!

:18:52. > :18:57.Did you bring your wet suit? I have it on under here! It must have been

:18:57. > :19:04.amazing to see them? I couldn't believe the size of them, 8, 9, 10

:19:04. > :19:09.foot tall. When he is suing at your feet, you are like, go away!

:19:09. > :19:14.couldn't get him out of the water. This will come as a surprise, that

:19:14. > :19:24.you are so into geology? I'm doing a degree in geo-science. I didn't

:19:24. > :19:26.

:19:26. > :19:31.get any exams in school. All I got was Grade four German. All I can

:19:31. > :19:41.say is, have you got the new Gilbert Dan Sullivan CD? Do you

:19:41. > :19:51.

:19:51. > :19:55.think that we should mention that James has a little at all? -- owl.

:19:55. > :19:59.It's very difficult to work out which gender they are. They need to

:19:59. > :20:08.fly Hawks, to keep the pigeons away, so they don't poo all over the

:20:08. > :20:13.place. From a geological point of view, this is very interesting?

:20:13. > :20:17.can go to town! There has been a castle here for hundreds of years,

:20:17. > :20:27.starting with the Romans in 50 a day. They brought back some

:20:27. > :20:33.limestone, from the Vale of Glamorgan, and if we go back to the

:20:33. > :20:43.1500s, we've got the lovely motte. A wonderful structure. They even

:20:43. > :20:44.

:20:44. > :20:54.got a bear on it! The Victorian era, they added to it. And look what

:20:54. > :20:57.

:20:57. > :21:02.they're made from Carboniferous What do you think of the castle?

:21:02. > :21:10.You are new to Cardiff, aren't you? Yes, well, it is pretty fancy,

:21:10. > :21:17.actually. Pretty fancy? 2000 years of history, pretty fancy! This is a

:21:17. > :21:22.lovely image, with him and more hand. -- on your hand. How does it

:21:22. > :21:27.compare to the rickshaw ride? different. You have a lizard at

:21:27. > :21:33.home? Yes, a little lizard. things you can talk about when you

:21:33. > :21:38.have hours of cycling. There are a lot of animals in here as well.

:21:38. > :21:44.From day one, really. The Romans used to have a love of exotic

:21:44. > :21:48.animals. 2000 years ago, Lyons, possibly even elephants, monkeys,

:21:49. > :21:53.parrots, the whole works. You think of the gladiator, the Coliseum,

:21:53. > :21:59.they loved their animals there. In the Middle Ages, the nobility were

:21:59. > :22:03.hunting. They would have had horses, dogs and hounds. Also, the Falcons.

:22:03. > :22:08.That is why Falcons are still flying around, to keep the pigeons

:22:08. > :22:13.away. Lord Bute loved his wild life so much, the motte behind, it used

:22:14. > :22:18.to have beavers introduced. Unfortunately, they have long since

:22:18. > :22:26.gone and they are extinct in Britain. But we still have Falcons,

:22:26. > :22:33.thanks to the Hawkins couple that You've got to get to bed, tomorrow

:22:33. > :22:37.we are up early. Do you know what time it is? 6:30am! We are all set

:22:37. > :22:42.and ready to go for a day five. Over the next week, you are going

:22:42. > :22:48.to learn a lot about our individual riders. What a bunch they are.

:22:48. > :22:56.Tonight, it is Lauren and Ciaran's turn, whose parents are also on the

:22:56. > :23:01.road, looking on anxiously. I can do it! I am the flying

:23:01. > :23:05.Scotswoman! I can do what I can for Children In Need. I was run over by

:23:05. > :23:09.a car a few years ago. When we got her home, she was just sat in the

:23:09. > :23:14.wheelchair. She could not support her head, she had a strap across

:23:14. > :23:19.her forehead. I haven't ridden my bike since my accident. It's been

:23:19. > :23:24.very slowly, one step at a time, but always pushing forwards. Two

:23:24. > :23:29.and-a-half days, already, her mindset has totally flipped. It has

:23:30. > :23:34.went from I cannot, to I can. night, she was really tearful. She

:23:34. > :23:44.said she was really proud of me. She has just been good support,

:23:44. > :23:46.

:23:46. > :23:56.telling me I can do it. How was that Hill? I cannot feel my arms!

:23:56. > :24:00.

:24:00. > :24:05.I feel really proud of myself. Just how much I've been able to do.

:24:05. > :24:10.Ciaran's co-ordination is not very good. He hasn't got a great deal of

:24:10. > :24:17.strength, so he really goes through the barrier. He is determined. My

:24:17. > :24:22.dad has helped me through some tough times. I don't think I could

:24:22. > :24:27.have done it without him. Knowing that I am tired, knowing that I

:24:27. > :24:33.need to stop, knowing when I can't do any more, it is great to have

:24:33. > :24:37.him here. I think we are gaining strength from Ciaran. He gives

:24:37. > :24:41.people around him inspiration. He wants to raise money as well, an

:24:41. > :24:51.awareness for other children that have any disabilities. That brings

:24:51. > :25:00.
