:00:19. > :00:25.Hello and welcome to Birmingham for day five of the big short challenge!

:00:26. > :00:30.If you were watching last night, you would have seen Team Rickshaw leave

:00:31. > :00:33.Bolton, they have travelled 101 miles through the night, goodness

:00:34. > :00:37.me, and if you have been watching on the website, you will know that they

:00:38. > :00:42.have arrived here, and to welcome them is an actor and singer who has

:00:43. > :00:46.had quite a journey himself, all the way from Ramsay Street to the West

:00:47. > :00:56.End, Jason Donovan! Good to see you, have a seat! Thank you! That would

:00:57. > :01:02.be lovely. It is a bit nippy tonight, you should have worn a

:01:03. > :01:06.coat. I feel I have made the effort! By the end of the show you will have

:01:07. > :01:11.a scarf on. Listen, you are already in the Children in Need mood, we did

:01:12. > :01:16.a gala performance with Gary Barlow. Yes, last night was a great night,

:01:17. > :01:20.and they managed to raise a lot of money for Children in Need. There

:01:21. > :01:27.was a little bit of a concert at the end. I got to sing Too Many Broken

:01:28. > :01:31.Hearts, which I haven't... I do not pull it out of the cupboard too

:01:32. > :01:37.often! But it was a really successful night, and lots of fun,

:01:38. > :01:40.too, which was the main thing. If we are lucky, we might be able to get

:01:41. > :01:48.Jason singing, do you reckon? What do you reckon?! We will try that. I

:01:49. > :01:52.understand you are a bit of cyclist. I love cycling, I think it is a

:01:53. > :01:56.great form of transport, it is not a long way to go. There are a lot of

:01:57. > :02:02.dangers in it, but getting into town, I live in London, it is much

:02:03. > :02:06.easier than a motorbike. The rickshaw is quite wide, and they

:02:07. > :02:10.have been stuck in a few traffic jams, but you will find out all

:02:11. > :02:13.about that. We have got this walking map that we are getting people to

:02:14. > :02:25.wear, is it possible to find somebody called Rick Shaw to where

:02:26. > :02:29.it? We have almost got him, this is Eric Shaw! And I shake you by the

:02:30. > :02:35.hand? Suber to see you, I am assuming people have made the

:02:36. > :02:39.connection before. Yes, I think when I was in primary school! Sorry to

:02:40. > :02:43.take you back to those times. Let's just have a little luck, this is the

:02:44. > :02:50.route they have taken since last night, from Bolton to Manchester,

:02:51. > :02:55.all the way to Stoke on Trent, into Stafford, Wolverhampton and then

:02:56. > :02:59.here in Birmingham. It is quite an achievement, 101 miles of it. I am

:03:00. > :03:04.sure you will agree it is lovely when celebrities turn up to cheer

:03:05. > :03:06.you on, but can you imagine Team Rickshaw's surprise when somebody

:03:07. > :03:11.turned up at two o'clock in the morning in Middlewich? That is

:03:12. > :03:15.around Eric's Middlewich, there we are...

:03:16. > :03:22.It has to happen sooner or later, on Dave four the weather suddenly took

:03:23. > :03:32.a turn for the worse. Team Rickshaw were behind schedule. But Daniel

:03:33. > :03:40.stayed strong. How are you feeling? Hunky-dory! I am like a duck on

:03:41. > :03:41.water. How is the rain? Are you all right? You about a lot swimming

:03:42. > :03:49.lessons. Have to keep attempted to make up

:03:50. > :03:53.some ground, it was important that his daughter Eleanor matched his

:03:54. > :04:01.pace, so I pushed her through what would be her toughest shift so far.

:04:02. > :04:05.Catch me, you can, yes, you can! I am trying. Think about why you are

:04:06. > :04:10.doing this, think about all the bullies and what they would say if

:04:11. > :04:19.they were watching you. Yeah! Dig in, let's push forward, come on.

:04:20. > :04:23.Come on! That was the hardest one so far. You

:04:24. > :04:31.are incredibly strong, not just physically but mentally.

:04:32. > :04:39.I am struggling on this hill. Yesterday it was raining so badly

:04:40. > :04:46.that my legs hurt, and I felt available bit miserable. And I might

:04:47. > :04:53.have had a little cry. Of course, lots of our team members, with

:04:54. > :04:58.varying disabilities, have sometimes flown of certain hills, so I have

:04:59. > :05:06.got to play my part now and get up here. Rain or no rain! Hill or no

:05:07. > :05:10.hill! And later, on the night shift, with Peter at the helm of the

:05:11. > :05:18.rickshaw, the bad weather would not let up. I said earlier that I was

:05:19. > :05:23.lovely and dry but I did not mind if it rained. As soon as I jump on, it

:05:24. > :05:30.starts raining. After hours of cycling, time for a well-deserved

:05:31. > :05:38.break and a bite to eat. Hot dogs for you. Lovely! Food! All he has

:05:39. > :05:44.done is look at the food, he has got no idea who gave it to him. John

:05:45. > :05:53.Bishop, how are you, mate? Oh, while! -- wow! I have never seen

:05:54. > :06:01.anyone more disappointed other my wife. Unless you are on a rickshaw,

:06:02. > :06:07.you are not taking it. Can I have a go?

:06:08. > :06:16.I will do the rest of it! Beater lost his mother and sister in a

:06:17. > :06:20.serious car accident in 2007. -- Peter. Riding the rickshaw with his

:06:21. > :06:25.father Jeff has given them both a chance to reflect on how it has

:06:26. > :06:29.affected their life. When I think of Jeff, all I can think of is the

:06:30. > :06:33.smile, how has he been of the last couple of years? Can you tell when

:06:34. > :06:43.he's feeling a bit down? I know he does get down at times, but he keeps

:06:44. > :06:47.himself to insult at those times, and he stays strong around me. Does

:06:48. > :06:52.it feel good to be pushing yourself, to be out on this challenge

:06:53. > :06:58.together? It is just nice to rebuild our bond a little bit, spend a bit

:06:59. > :07:02.of time, just me and him. It was him teaching me, if you keep pushing,

:07:03. > :07:10.you will see a benefit on the other side.

:07:11. > :07:18.You cannot comprehend the impact it has on people's lives, putting your

:07:19. > :07:22.hand in your pocket and giving. Hole, this is telling me! That is

:07:23. > :07:37.the hardest one I have done. Well, I will tell you, it is amazing

:07:38. > :07:41.how all of these layers have been peeled away as we travel along, and

:07:42. > :07:46.what we are hearing is quite extraordinary. I am joined by

:07:47. > :07:51.Daniel's family, dad Steve, Shannon, Ashley, and as we have been saying,

:07:52. > :07:55.we have been talking as we travel along, and Daniel's condition,

:07:56. > :08:01.pneumococcal meningitis, it has changed the war as a family, hasn't

:08:02. > :08:08.it? What is the main difference? Well, I mean, obviously, he is a

:08:09. > :08:13.young man now, and he is obviously not as he should be, but he is

:08:14. > :08:22.better than... At the start of it, in a coma for three or four days, he

:08:23. > :08:26.never spoke for months. Bend and buckled inflection, I think they

:08:27. > :08:31.call it, we never thought he would stand up, never mind a ride a bike.

:08:32. > :08:35.There you are, he is incredibly strong, I have witnessed him

:08:36. > :08:38.powering through the countryside. What is quite interesting, he is not

:08:39. > :08:43.very good with his directions, I will say! I am sure you will agree,

:08:44. > :08:48.this is classic Daniel, he took a turning a little while ago and made

:08:49. > :08:51.quite an entrance, because you will see him here coming through

:08:52. > :08:57.Selfridges! He made his way through the food hall, which is classic. Of

:08:58. > :09:02.course, everybody cheering him on, everybody gets behind Daniel anyway,

:09:03. > :09:06.there is mum obviously as well. He did very well to avoid the Christmas

:09:07. > :09:10.puddings. Speaking of which, mum is on the back of the rickshaw, have

:09:11. > :09:14.you been managing to feed the family? They have been really good,

:09:15. > :09:18.actually, they have not been falling out or anything. Very good, well,

:09:19. > :09:22.mum and Daniel will be pleased to hear it, come on down, let's hear it

:09:23. > :09:39.for Daniel and Carol! Come on, Daniel, come on, lead the

:09:40. > :09:46.way, as always, in you come. No doubt Carol and Daniel will deserve

:09:47. > :09:51.a well earned snuggle. There we are. Come on in, we have got Uncle

:09:52. > :09:56.Charlie as well, anti-Barbra, come on over and say hello. Come on,

:09:57. > :10:01.Carol. Do not feel you cannot have a kiss and a couple because the

:10:02. > :10:07.cameras are here, get in there! Isn't that wonderful?! Isn't it? It

:10:08. > :10:11.is not just the family, we have got the staff from Alder Hey Hospital,

:10:12. > :10:15.who have been caring for Daniel throughout, Dr Appleton, first of

:10:16. > :10:20.all, what was the prognosis for Daniel? It was difficult to say from

:10:21. > :10:25.the start, all children and all brains are different. He was really

:10:26. > :10:29.sick, in a coma, but we had fate, and we believed, and with the team

:10:30. > :10:38.we have put together, it was fantastic. So I never gave up, it

:10:39. > :10:40.was difficult for mum and dad to say, Willy walk and talk? But I

:10:41. > :10:43.honestly believed he would. He did so amazingly well, and to be

:10:44. > :10:47.discharged within four months was fantastic. It is teamwork, the

:10:48. > :10:52.nurses here from Alder Hey, the therapists who cannot be here, plus

:10:53. > :10:56.the parents, all part of the team. It is not just a doctor but a whole

:10:57. > :11:02.team spirit, and it is the teamwork that makes him do what he has done.

:11:03. > :11:05.It is a remarkable job that you do. He has been telling us how grateful

:11:06. > :11:09.he is to the team at the hospital, so this is how you can help the

:11:10. > :11:19.rickshaw challenge and support Children in Need. If you are a

:11:20. > :11:24.father like me, text TEAM 270705. That will cost ?5, and it will go to

:11:25. > :11:30.Children in Need. If you want terms and conditions, go to the website.

:11:31. > :11:42.Come on, then. Oh, Jason Donovan! What a treat!

:11:43. > :11:49.You are friends through Strictly. All that cycling is worth it to see

:11:50. > :11:54.you here. That makes Strictly looked like a walk in the park! We do need

:11:55. > :12:00.lots of people to support us, and you have come up with an idea to get

:12:01. > :12:08.people texting, apparently. I have. It was my idea, actually! Any thing

:12:09. > :12:12.that brings money, that can help raise some extra money, it is a

:12:13. > :12:18.great story coming out of the last few weeks, some touching stuff. You

:12:19. > :12:25.performed Joseph Paxton in 1991, and if enough people text tonight here

:12:26. > :12:30.in Birmingham, Jason Donovan will reprise that. -- you performed

:12:31. > :12:39.Joseph Paxton in 1991. Phones in the air! Are there another phones in the

:12:40. > :12:43.air? Do not just wave them, text the number! Is that enough? I think that

:12:44. > :12:46.is going to be enough, straight towards the camera? Whatever way you

:12:47. > :13:02.want to do it. Link # I closed my eyes.

:13:03. > :13:07.# Drew back the curtain. # To see for certain.

:13:08. > :13:13.# What I thought I knew. # Far, far away.

:13:14. > :13:15.# Someone was weeping. # But the world was sleeping.

:13:16. > :13:33.# Any dream will do. Look at this! Look at the lengths

:13:34. > :13:37.people will go to! That was great. You have been starring in War Of The

:13:38. > :13:41.Worlds, doing an arena tour, and you have filmed it for DVD. For those of

:13:42. > :13:51.us were not familiar with the story, tell us. It is based on HG

:13:52. > :13:57.Wells' 1900s Martian invasion, and I play a character called the Parson,

:13:58. > :14:05.who is basically in fear of these Martians and think that they are

:14:06. > :14:11.part of the evil doom of mankind. A great tour, you see Marti Pellow,

:14:12. > :14:14.Ricky Wilson, Liam Neeson. I keep telling all the casting agents and

:14:15. > :14:18.the producers that I have been working with Liam Neeson, you know!

:14:19. > :14:24.And they are not that convinced, because he is only one dimensional,

:14:25. > :14:30.he is a hologram. And there are loads of catchy songs in it, because

:14:31. > :14:33.Matt fluctuates between Neil Diamond and War Of The Worlds in his car.

:14:34. > :14:43.This is you performing as Pastor Nathaniel with Kerry Ellis.

:14:44. > :14:54.# Now darkness has descended on our land.

:14:55. > :14:59.# All our prayers cannot save us. # Like lambs to the slaughter...

:15:00. > :15:09.Lovely! It is a far cry from Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

:15:10. > :15:14.Though blah I like to mix it up, and I am very much an actor first and

:15:15. > :15:21.foremost, even though my singing voice is absolutely beautiful! I

:15:22. > :15:40.like to change my rolls around, so I am on the road with Brazil until

:15:41. > :15:49.next year. -- Priscilla. Which one are you? The one in the centre. It

:15:50. > :15:58.is a long way from my days in Strictly. Kylie Minogue tweeted to

:15:59. > :16:05.say that today would be Scott and Charlene's wedding anniversary. Any

:16:06. > :16:14.chance of a reunion? We sound Especially For You, which is a

:16:15. > :16:19.really fun thing to do. For a lot of people there is a big emotional

:16:20. > :16:24.connection with Neighbours and that song was part of the whole

:16:25. > :16:31.experience and it was very special. We are in Birmingham, which is

:16:32. > :16:44.famous for a lot of things beginning with the letter C, like custard,

:16:45. > :16:48.curries and cars. Lucy has been looking at why the British car

:16:49. > :16:53.industry is now back in the fast lane. This is the Jaguar Land Rover

:16:54. > :17:00.plant in Solihull, which employs over 6000 people. Graeme Archer has

:17:01. > :17:05.been working here since he was 16. Did you like it from the start? It

:17:06. > :17:09.was wonderful. It was an apprenticeship, so you started doing

:17:10. > :17:13.the things like welding and construction work, the sort of

:17:14. > :17:24.things you would need to go into a trade. What sort of things do you do

:17:25. > :17:29.now? Now I am a tour guide, but I am too old to talk about it! In the

:17:30. > :17:33.last 12 months, the sector has produced more than 1.5 million

:17:34. > :17:42.vehicles, the highest total since 2008. In the 1970s the industry was

:17:43. > :17:49.dominated by companies like Ford, and Vauxhall. But then it fell

:17:50. > :17:54.apart. MG Rover group went into administration in 2005, bringing to

:17:55. > :17:59.an end mass car production by British owned manufacturers as we

:18:00. > :18:08.knew it. What is it like when people around you are being made redundant?

:18:09. > :18:16.It is gut-wrenching. How many times has your job been on a knife edge

:18:17. > :18:22.like that? Probably five or six. Jaguar Land Rover was struggling

:18:23. > :18:28.against the recession and some fearsome European competitors, but

:18:29. > :18:39.Billington -- and Indian condom stepped in. But could Tata Motors

:18:40. > :18:43.really succeed where others had failed? The answer is yes, five

:18:44. > :18:52.years later and Jaguar Land Rover has become a profitable business,

:18:53. > :18:58.exporting to 78 countries around the world. Without foreign investment,

:18:59. > :19:05.would you have survived? Know, without Tata Motors we wouldn't be

:19:06. > :19:12.here today. We are in the heart of the body shop now, it is this where

:19:13. > :19:16.it all happens? Absolutely, you are in the middle of the biggest

:19:17. > :19:20.aluminium body shop in the world and this is the future for us,

:19:21. > :19:32.especially now we have put aluminium technology in our SUVs. It is the

:19:33. > :19:39.future and we are very proud of it. Going back to your 16-year-old self,

:19:40. > :19:43.what would you have thought of this? It is beyond comprehension, it is so

:19:44. > :19:49.far removed from what we used to do. There would have been missed and

:19:50. > :19:55.sparks in the place, now I like to call this our operating theatre. The

:19:56. > :20:11.UK has 15 car manufacturing plants, making supercars to Nissans. The

:20:12. > :20:15.industry is now on course to break historic manufacturing records. This

:20:16. > :20:21.means a serious recruitment drive to get more young people into car

:20:22. > :20:27.engineering. These three are all on the graduate training programme

:20:28. > :20:33.here. Why did you want to work here? When you see a Range Rover going

:20:34. > :20:37.past, contributing to a certain aspect of that Range Rover, it feels

:20:38. > :20:44.good being part of the team to make that happen. You can look at the

:20:45. > :20:50.products don't think I have had apart to do with that. For the first

:20:51. > :21:04.time in many years, Britain is back in the car business. What do you

:21:05. > :21:09.love it? That. It is wonderful it means so much.

:21:10. > :21:15.Everybody will be resting up this weekend, including you I'm sure.

:21:16. > :21:19.Peter is going to be starting his intensive training to become a

:21:20. > :21:28.mechanic. I know you were glued to that film but we have something else

:21:29. > :21:35.for you to look up. Hi, Peter, it is Jenson here. I do a lot of fitness

:21:36. > :21:40.in my spare time, which is cycling, so I know how tough this challenge

:21:41. > :21:45.will be, riding a rickshaw across the country. I know your father will

:21:46. > :21:50.be riding alongside you, he is very proud of what you are achieving, so

:21:51. > :21:55.I want to say good luck with your challenge. You are a real

:21:56. > :21:59.inspiration, and I also heard you want to be a mechanic one day so

:22:00. > :22:06.stay focused with that, keep working hard, and hopefully we will see you

:22:07. > :22:17.in Formula 11 day. What do you make of that? That was awesome. We will

:22:18. > :22:33.get that put onto a DVD for you. You can play that over and over again!

:22:34. > :22:38.Over the last few months, the One Show has been tracking the first man

:22:39. > :22:43.to swim the length of Britain from Land's End to John O'Groats. This

:22:44. > :22:52.has to be the hairiest moment we have had on the show, please welcome

:22:53. > :22:58.Sean Conway and his beard! Good to see you. Congratulations. I cannot

:22:59. > :23:05.believe you are not in some massive thermals, you look like you are in

:23:06. > :23:12.the Bahamas. It is quite tropical here, quite warm! Talk me through

:23:13. > :23:18.this moment because it was all about getting there. It was very

:23:19. > :23:24.emotional. I was so cold, then my friends and the group 's sprayed

:23:25. > :23:30.champagne in my eyes! It has all been a bit of a whirlwind, a

:23:31. > :23:36.blurred. It has not sunk in to be honest. It is just good to be here,

:23:37. > :23:40.and thank you for supporting me. Team Rickshaw are going through a

:23:41. > :23:45.similar challenge, it is very tough, especially during the long

:23:46. > :23:49.hours of the night when we are cycling through derelict

:23:50. > :23:57.countryside. What tips would you have? Firstly, congratulations. Try

:23:58. > :24:04.not to be overwhelmed by the bigger picture, take metres, make miles and

:24:05. > :24:09.days. The second one is that it is hard at times but try to look around

:24:10. > :24:15.and enjoy yourself. If you just enjoy the scenery, we live in a

:24:16. > :24:20.beautiful country so make the most of it. The scenery has been the best

:24:21. > :24:25.bit about it. When we spoke to you about a month ago, you were in

:24:26. > :24:33.Scotland so how come it has taken one month to get to John O'Groats?

:24:34. > :24:43.Scotland threw everything at me. I lost a kayak let's see, an anchor

:24:44. > :24:51.got caught on some rocks, the sport boats took a hammering. An -- or

:24:52. > :24:55.until a week ago there was a risk that I wouldn't finish, but we

:24:56. > :25:06.managed to do the last few days and got to the end. I know, the cold. I

:25:07. > :25:15.nearly had to wear a child's wet suit, I lost so much weight. Join us

:25:16. > :25:20.for dinner because these lot eats like you wouldn't believe! We know

:25:21. > :25:24.that a lot of you are getting very excited about Children In Need,

:25:25. > :25:31.doing your fundraising, and Friday at school will be massive. Yesterday

:25:32. > :25:47.Martin and I visited a very special school.

:25:48. > :25:52.Hello! We were on the way, cycling through your area, and we heard you

:25:53. > :26:05.were doing this fantastic concerts to raise money for Pudsey so we came

:26:06. > :26:10.along to listen. Is that OK? Yes. Is this something you do every year?

:26:11. > :26:15.Yes, it is the fourth concert we have done now to raise money for
