0:00:18 > 0:00:20Hello, and Welcome to The One Show, with Matt Baker...

0:00:20 > 0:00:22And Angela Scanlon.

0:00:22 > 0:00:27Today is Blue Monday - some say the most miserable day of the year.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Well, not this year it's not.

0:00:29 > 0:00:35Who could watch this and not feel an irrational surge of happiness?

0:00:35 > 0:00:43This is good, look at this! Magical stuff!Oh, yes!

0:00:43 > 0:00:48This is what happens when pet cats watch Big Cats on BBC One.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49Plenty more from them later.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53And topical comedian Matt Forde's here.

0:00:53 > 0:01:00What's it like when you see things like Spitting Image, or

0:01:00 > 0:01:09impersonation is on TV, they have picked up the mannerisms what...

0:01:09 > 0:01:10He'll be putting his spin on 2018.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Our sofa guests tonight from Silent Witness

0:01:12 > 0:01:14are are already corpsing - which is appropriate!

0:01:14 > 0:01:15It's Emilia Fox and Liz Carr!

0:01:15 > 0:01:21APPLAUSE.

0:01:21 > 0:01:27Louw to you both. -- hello to you both.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28Welcome back.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Has Blue Monday got the best of you?

0:01:31 > 0:01:39I don't agree with that, it's more gloom January or early February? --

0:01:39 > 0:01:44or Luke February. I think by the end of March...

0:01:44 > 0:01:52LAUGHTER The most exciting thing for you

0:01:52 > 0:01:56today?I've come here! APPLAUSE

0:01:56 > 0:02:00The green couch is a bit of a lift. We are not going to disappoint!

0:02:00 > 0:02:08We are going to catch up with One Show viewers...

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Let's start by catching up with a group of One Show viewers

0:02:11 > 0:02:13who we turn to when we need new technology tested

0:02:13 > 0:02:14and no-nonsense questions asked.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16So far, they've tackled smart tech, online security and electric

0:02:16 > 0:02:19cars on your behalf. Now, they're entering the world

0:02:19 > 0:02:20of crypto-currencies.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22So have we pushed them too far this time?

0:02:22 > 0:02:31You can't physically touch Bitcoin. Does this thing actually exist?It's

0:02:31 > 0:02:36not actually money. The One Show viewers know next to nothing about

0:02:36 > 0:02:42Bitcoin, so we set them a challenge, to see if they can make it big in

0:02:42 > 0:02:48the Bitcoin world.That an ordinary cash machine, that's not it.Their

0:02:48 > 0:02:54first task is to get their hands on some. Frank and Annie are at one of

0:02:54 > 0:03:01the few Bitcoin ATMs.I've got to get this done!As Bitcoin only this

0:03:01 > 0:03:06online, they have to use a smartphone to receive their currency

0:03:06 > 0:03:14digitally. -- Bitcoin only exists online.Dunnett!We can put the

0:03:14 > 0:03:22money in a now -- done it.Yes, I've done that.They call for back-up.

0:03:22 > 0:03:31You just need to get up this code, which looks like this.Insert that.

0:03:31 > 0:03:46And again!The exchange rate is a whopping £13,500 to one Bitcoin.

0:03:46 > 0:03:51Where are we going now?I don't no...Lets go and have a coffee!

0:03:51 > 0:03:59Bitcoin at the ready. They are keen to have a go as spending it.Do you

0:03:59 > 0:04:06take Bitcoins, love? Do you take them in payment? Is it like

0:04:06 > 0:04:13contactless? Do you except Bitcoin? Most Bitcoin transactions occur

0:04:13 > 0:04:16online, but they find one of only three places on the High Street in

0:04:16 > 0:04:23Leeds which take it. Meal finished, it's time to settle the bill.I have

0:04:23 > 0:04:28generated the receipt in pounds. It will automatically convert it into

0:04:28 > 0:04:35Bitcoin.It incurs a charge. A hefty transaction fee adds another £13 45

0:04:35 > 0:04:40to their bill.It was virtually double what was on the menu.

0:04:40 > 0:04:44Absolutely stupid, in my eyes.I'll let you into a sequel, I will never

0:04:44 > 0:04:53Bitcoin ever again!-- a secret. Spending Bitcoin comes at a cost,

0:04:53 > 0:04:59but what about investing it?

0:04:59 > 0:05:02but what about investing it? Linda and Dave are meeting and investment

0:05:02 > 0:05:07director and Bitcoin sceptic.This is a potential get rich quick

0:05:07 > 0:05:11scheme, in all fairness, it's worked incredibly well. It is not an

0:05:11 > 0:05:16investment, for me. What happens if it goes wrong? Can I afford to lose

0:05:16 > 0:05:23the money, permanently? You are not compensated by the mine and services

0:05:23 > 0:05:31compensation scheme. What's gone is gone.In the spirit of our is --

0:05:31 > 0:05:36experiment, they take the risk. With such little regulation, you could be

0:05:36 > 0:05:42at risk of identity fraud. Dave and Linda are using a reputable website.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45It's going to go up, and we are going to make money, this is what we

0:05:45 > 0:05:51hope!The key to making money from any investment is timing. The price

0:05:51 > 0:05:56of the

0:05:57 > 0:06:00of the coin -- Bitcoin has plummeted. It can go up or down by

0:06:00 > 0:06:09thousands.That is what your £40 is now worth. £31 57.Groups!It's time

0:06:09 > 0:06:13to cash out. In the months since they have bought their Bitcoin, it

0:06:13 > 0:06:19has dropped to ten point £5,000. Dave and Linda's at Gwent website

0:06:19 > 0:06:25doesn't pay out in sterling, they end up with 27 euros. It is easy to

0:06:25 > 0:06:32put the money in, but getting it out has proved mega problems. After

0:06:32 > 0:06:40fees, Frank and Annie have just £17. We have lost half of the money.Nora

0:06:40 > 0:06:46has been stung with more charges. They have taken someone money out of

0:06:46 > 0:06:54my account.Not a very good investment, as far as I'm concerned.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57Banks, team.

0:06:57 > 0:06:58-- thanks.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Gavin Brown is here - a bitcoin expert and Senior Lecturer

0:07:01 > 0:07:02in Financial Economics at Manchester Metropolitan

0:07:02 > 0:07:03University.

0:07:03 > 0:07:07And you have invested some of your own money in Bitcoin. As we saw from

0:07:07 > 0:07:10the video, is not great for day-to-day, Bitcoin.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12So, apart from drug dealers and other shady types,

0:07:12 > 0:07:17is there any reason for anybody to actually use bitcoin?

0:07:17 > 0:07:22That's a good point. For small level transactions on a day-to-day basis,

0:07:22 > 0:07:27it cannot be efficient in terms of time and transaction costs, it has a

0:07:27 > 0:07:29lot of connotations with the criminal element and that sort of

0:07:29 > 0:07:35thing. But Bitcoin itself is a fantastic innovation. It allows you

0:07:35 > 0:07:40to do banking without the need for a bank. You can move money around

0:07:40 > 0:07:46instantly without any transaction fees, regulatory oversight, tax

0:07:46 > 0:07:50authority looking at the transaction. For a lot of

0:07:50 > 0:07:52institutions, it is an empowering thing.

0:07:52 > 0:07:55We saw in the film that the value of bitcoin dropped.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57What makes bitcoin go up and down in value?

0:07:57 > 0:08:02It is the volatility that gets the headlines because it is such an

0:08:02 > 0:08:06embryonic and Newmarket. It only takes a small announcement by a

0:08:06 > 0:08:08country or regulator to say something negative or positive and

0:08:08 > 0:08:18the price will fluctuate wildly.I couldn't cope with the stress!This

0:08:18 > 0:08:26is why you wouldn't have a lot of your wealth in it, you wouldn't

0:08:26 > 0:08:30sleep at night! It was bad time for our group, who invested at the wrong

0:08:30 > 0:08:36time. As soon as the cameras stopped rolling, the price shot up again.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40Back in the game!In a one-month period since we filmed that, Bitcoin

0:08:40 > 0:08:46lost a third of its value, but over a 12 month period it has gone up

0:08:46 > 0:08:481300%, which is significant.

0:08:48 > 0:08:52How is it made?

0:08:52 > 0:08:58What mind, as they say? There are two choices, we could create a coin

0:08:58 > 0:09:04here and now, make a new coin. You can put it onto the market in one go

0:09:04 > 0:09:08and hope that people started used it as a transfer of value or release it

0:09:08 > 0:09:15slowly, release it in blocks, one blogs every ten minutes. -- blocks.

0:09:15 > 0:09:20It is a Bitcoin inside a puzzle, your job as a minor is to use a

0:09:20 > 0:09:25computer to solve the puzzle to win the Bitcoin. You may say, what's the

0:09:25 > 0:09:29point in that? What that is for is because computers cost money and

0:09:29 > 0:09:33have to be powered, which also costs money. When you get out of the

0:09:33 > 0:09:37Bitcoin, you have spent a lot of money getting it. That value

0:09:37 > 0:09:41transfers to the coin itself, which gives the currency some values the

0:09:41 > 0:09:46point there's a lot of machinery that generate this. It's huge.

0:09:46 > 0:09:52People are starting to shout about this. If Bitcoin was a country, it

0:09:52 > 0:09:56uses more electricity in the last 12 months than 150 other countries

0:09:56 > 0:10:01globally. From a green perspective, very poor. The mining will see is

0:10:01 > 0:10:06what the maximum number of points are in circulation.Liz, your

0:10:06 > 0:10:10character's husband, Max, he is a tech genius.Just the name of it,

0:10:10 > 0:10:18crypto-currency! That's really it. Every time I want to get Max back in

0:10:18 > 0:10:22the series, trying to find ways of getting him back. I think that would

0:10:22 > 0:10:29be a great crime that we could be looking at, Bitcoin.Happy to have

0:10:29 > 0:10:34helped! Will be on the next series!

0:10:34 > 0:10:36In tonight's episode, your characters are juggling solving

0:10:36 > 0:10:39a crime and keeping an eye on Jack's love life.

0:10:39 > 0:10:44Jack, I will ask Kelly some questions and need you to do the

0:10:44 > 0:10:50full number, computers, phones, cameras... I will need to...It will

0:10:50 > 0:10:56my pleasure.

0:10:56 > 0:11:03my pleasure.And need asking price, did he?What?Jack, not normally

0:11:03 > 0:11:07this attentive -- didn't need asking price. Cancel his toxicology

0:11:07 > 0:11:15results. All normal except for very high levels of...She was planning

0:11:15 > 0:11:23to terminate the pregnancy.Yes. APPLAUSE

0:11:23 > 0:11:28In general, the good news is, you are back. Emilia Clarke your

0:11:28 > 0:11:32character did make it, she went through with the whole De Bock Eoin

0:11:32 > 0:11:36go. You must have spent so many months with your character saying,

0:11:36 > 0:11:42is she alive?! -- each with the whole De Bock. Not many people

0:11:42 > 0:11:49thought it was a dream. All this past year I have had people saying,

0:11:49 > 0:11:54is she coming back? She was left in the box. It was a very serial,

0:11:54 > 0:12:00dreamy sequence on the beach.Did it happen or didn't it?People finally

0:12:00 > 0:12:05got it, and now we are back.I'm relieved that we are back!

0:12:05 > 0:12:08And the first two-parter of the new series did not disappoint.

0:12:08 > 0:12:13What can we look forward to tonight?

0:12:13 > 0:12:18Following on from the personal story of Nikki, she is still recovering

0:12:18 > 0:12:24from the aftermath of Mexico. You see a little bit about Jack and the

0:12:24 > 0:12:28relationship that he has with the detective on the case. And the crime

0:12:28 > 0:12:31story is about the hacking of a hospital database, and the

0:12:31 > 0:12:40blackmailing of patients. We often get asked, how is it in George Weah

0:12:40 > 0:12:4421 series? When we were doing this NHS data hacking case, it was

0:12:44 > 0:12:49happening in the news last year -- how has it endured. It is so

0:12:49 > 0:12:54topical, that's part of it. These stories are written months, even one

0:12:54 > 0:12:59year in advance. We were doing it, it was almost like somebody had

0:12:59 > 0:13:03foreseen the future!Strangely, the last time you want, you were talking

0:13:03 > 0:13:08about the fact that we might get to see more your personal life. That's

0:13:08 > 0:13:16going to be happening, too. Your character is at the centre of one of

0:13:16 > 0:13:22the can't coming episodes.There is an episode coming up, -- up and

0:13:22 > 0:13:26coming episodes. It is a disability hate crime that takes place in care

0:13:26 > 0:13:31homes. We have always avoided talking overtly about disability. I

0:13:31 > 0:13:35will into a scene, we know I'm a wheelchair user, but we've not

0:13:35 > 0:13:40addressed that fact, I've never had to confront it. But this time there

0:13:40 > 0:13:45are crimes that are around disabled people and Clarissa can't help but

0:13:45 > 0:13:49get involved. There is a lot of soul-searching, it is a painful

0:13:49 > 0:13:54episode. She revisits her past, as well.On the flip side, we see

0:13:54 > 0:13:59Mickey having a love interest, which doesn't happen regularly! So will we

0:13:59 > 0:14:05see Nikki.

0:14:07 > 0:14:12Is that good? A lot of people hate the love scene thing. It is good

0:14:12 > 0:14:19because the relationship she had with Harry really meant something. I

0:14:19 > 0:14:24get asked every series, I knew going to have a relationship, but this

0:14:24 > 0:14:29series you do see her with a smile on her face and it helps with

0:14:29 > 0:14:33getting through Mexico, moving on, then we get back into Silent Witness

0:14:33 > 0:14:41as we know it.Is your love interests have always died! A lot of

0:14:41 > 0:14:47people want you to be with Jack as well.Yes, exactly. There have been

0:14:47 > 0:14:56a few moments between us.And where do you sit, with the format of the

0:14:56 > 0:15:01two parter, do you enjoy that? Because there are now so many boxed

0:15:01 > 0:15:05sets you can gorge on but now you have the nation on tenterhooks until

0:15:05 > 0:15:13the next episode, do you enjoy that? I think it's a luxury. There are so

0:15:13 > 0:15:17many series, the forerunner is really things like CSI which is just

0:15:17 > 0:15:23one hour, it is not much time but we are allowed to tell stories in two

0:15:23 > 0:15:31ours. We often think of them as films.Tuesday morning must be a

0:15:31 > 0:15:37nightmare, do people badger you?A lot of them wait and watch it in one

0:15:37 > 0:15:41go.It is nice to be doing something different from the box set thing

0:15:41 > 0:15:47because you get satisfaction in the Monday storytelling, and the fact it

0:15:47 > 0:15:51is two hours you get really great guest casts coming along because

0:15:51 > 0:15:58they can get into the meat of their characters. You get.It to tell. We

0:15:58 > 0:16:02haven't got long to wait until the first of the two part coming in the

0:16:02 > 0:16:08next couple of days but we are going to move onto another love of yours

0:16:08 > 0:16:14right now, c - cat owners.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16They have long realised that their pets have plenty

0:16:16 > 0:16:18in common with their wild cousins.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20But until the Big Cats series started last week,

0:16:20 > 0:16:22they might not have realised exactly how much.

0:16:22 > 0:16:28Here's Patrick.

0:16:32 > 0:16:37Watching big cats on TV helps us learn about their lives but we can

0:16:37 > 0:16:47see similar behaviour is a little closer to home.

0:16:47 > 0:16:52closer to home. Just like their fellow fierce felines, these

0:16:52 > 0:16:5913-week-old kittens use their excellent hearing and sight to lock

0:16:59 > 0:17:13onto a target, closing... Before the pounds. -- pounce.

0:17:14 > 0:17:19Much like lions in the wild, play fighting is all about learning. All

0:17:19 > 0:17:28rules are off. Neck biting, head locks, kick boxing are all fair

0:17:28 > 0:17:34tactics. These behaviours would be used to bring down prey in the wild,

0:17:34 > 0:17:38but for these kittens it's about figuring out how far one can push

0:17:38 > 0:17:45the other.

0:17:45 > 0:17:51the other. Cats will often follow up a scrap with a clean. Up to a tenth

0:17:51 > 0:17:55of their waking hours are spent grooming but it's not just about

0:17:55 > 0:18:00keeping their first in top condition. Grooming helps to calm

0:18:00 > 0:18:05each other and creates a communal sent to show they are part of the

0:18:05 > 0:18:10same gang. All cleaned up, there is still much to explore. Climbing

0:18:10 > 0:18:16isn't just fun, it helps keep their claws sharp. Solitary cats can be

0:18:16 > 0:18:22vulnerable to attack in the wild which is why kittens instinctively

0:18:22 > 0:18:28head for high lookout points. New objects need to be explored,

0:18:28 > 0:18:32ensuring their curious nature is satisfied. Even if it means changing

0:18:32 > 0:18:40the channel.

0:18:40 > 0:18:45Cats instinctively know that Prodi move away from them, and with

0:18:45 > 0:18:50razor-sharp reactions and new toy gives them chance to practice. One

0:18:50 > 0:18:58giant leap for cat kind. Kittens developed strong muscles, but by the

0:18:58 > 0:19:04time they are fully grown that will help them jump vertically 2.5 metres

0:19:04 > 0:19:09from a standstill, which would be used in the wild to capture an

0:19:09 > 0:19:14escaping meal. A burst of activity is usually followed by an out,

0:19:14 > 0:19:22something that comes most naturally to all cats. At this age, they will

0:19:22 > 0:19:28sleep for more than 13 hours a day, just like their wild cousins.

0:19:28 > 0:19:34Dreaming of their adventures around the house.

0:19:34 > 0:19:41That's what we are like on the sofa after the One Show.Big Cats is back

0:19:41 > 0:19:49on Thursday on BBC One.C, we mentioned you are cat lover and you

0:19:49 > 0:19:54brought in some photos. You introduced the nation to this lovely

0:19:54 > 0:20:04feline.This is cat Fraser.I was going to say, you've got a panther!

0:20:04 > 0:20:14Named after Matt, and like Matt, they don't have thumbs. It's a

0:20:14 > 0:20:20lovely sofa, it was velvet, it is now shreds. She is tiny, we have

0:20:20 > 0:20:24three cats, all black. She is the smallest and we are terrified of

0:20:24 > 0:20:28her.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31Matt Forde is here!

0:20:31 > 0:20:34You're about to embark on the fourth series of Unspun -

0:20:34 > 0:20:37your topical political comedy chat show on Dave.

0:20:37 > 0:20:38Starting shortly.

0:20:38 > 0:20:43What are your predictions for 2018?

0:20:44 > 0:20:49I should say I am all for our predictions. I take no

0:20:49 > 0:20:58responsibility.Shall we not do it then?Europe will continue to drive

0:20:58 > 0:21:01the Tory party apart. I think Boris Johnson specifically will continue

0:21:01 > 0:21:09to misbehave. That's not a great revelation. He will continue... It

0:21:09 > 0:21:19is the self-promotion. Let me just say no, no, no what, it is to be

0:21:19 > 0:21:23here today. Watch him, next time he's interviewed, always three

0:21:23 > 0:21:27different things going in his head at any one point. I want to say

0:21:27 > 0:21:35about Jeremy Corbyn, no, no, no, the BBC... My favourite has always been

0:21:35 > 0:21:44the chocolate hob knob. Not necessarily an exclusive. I think

0:21:44 > 0:21:49Labour will continue to be torn apart with Europe. Jeremy Corbyn has

0:21:49 > 0:21:57walked the line but increasingly he will become more pragmatic. You have

0:21:57 > 0:22:00seen this with sucking Chris Williamson who talked about council

0:22:00 > 0:22:06tax. My big prediction for the year, and I talked to a lot of MPs as you

0:22:06 > 0:22:11know, this is a real exclusive, there will be a general election

0:22:11 > 0:22:23this year, guaranteed. It will be in Russia. If you do fancy an outside

0:22:24 > 0:22:30bet on a lad called Vlad Putin.What about Nigel Farage?He could be

0:22:30 > 0:22:38back. The current Ukip leader is in trouble, just days after Nigel has

0:22:38 > 0:22:42called for a second referendum. I don't think there's any coincidence

0:22:42 > 0:22:48in that. I have interviewed him before, Nigel. It is fair to say he

0:22:48 > 0:22:53will just throw grenades out there, not literally, although let's see

0:22:53 > 0:22:58how desperate he gets. I interviewed him years ago and on climate change

0:22:58 > 0:23:04he said this, "People talk about the greenhouse effect. Have you seen a

0:23:04 > 0:23:14greenhouse? I mean stuff actually grows in there."Oh dear!I just

0:23:14 > 0:23:20went, fair point. One man who has been accused of misjudging

0:23:20 > 0:23:24situations and offending people, Donald Trump. Is there any way you

0:23:24 > 0:23:35can spin it to a positive in the way only Matt Forde does.Getting the

0:23:35 > 0:23:42next series has been helped by strong. A lot of people would say he

0:23:42 > 0:23:46has kept some of his promises. He pulled out of the Paris climate

0:23:46 > 0:23:49change agreement which delighted Nigel Farage. Apart from

0:23:49 > 0:23:57contributing to perhaps economic growth, so there are some positives.

0:23:57 > 0:24:02His greatest achievement is the sowing of confusion, he is almost

0:24:02 > 0:24:06impossible to campaign against because people never know by the way

0:24:06 > 0:24:11where he stands. And I want to say, it is the norm, it is an honour to

0:24:11 > 0:24:20be on the top rated show on the BBC at 7pm, it really is.

0:24:20 > 0:24:35at 7pm, it really is.I'm afraid we are going to shut you up!

0:24:36 > 0:24:37Thanks for joining us.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40What sort of man refuses to pay a ransom for his kidnapped

0:24:40 > 0:24:43grandson even though he has, as the film title has it,

0:24:43 > 0:24:44All The Money In The World?

0:24:44 > 0:24:46With the film starring Christopher Plummer expected to do

0:24:46 > 0:24:49well at the Baftas and Oscars, Gyles has been delving

0:24:49 > 0:24:50into the world of John Paul Getty.

0:24:50 > 0:24:54Money is secondary. I like the company of women, I like to think

0:24:54 > 0:25:02I'm average.John Paul Getty. By the 1960s, the richest person in the

0:25:02 > 0:25:07world, the first privately made billionaire. He grew a vast oil

0:25:07 > 0:25:10empire and spawned a Dynasty still renowned today, but he had a

0:25:10 > 0:25:15reputation as a miser and a womaniser, cohort, callous and

0:25:15 > 0:25:21calculating. Unfortunately I cannot interview him, he died in 1976 aged

0:25:21 > 0:25:3083, but I knew a man who did interview him.

0:25:30 > 0:25:33interview him. I knew him well. Alan Wicker. Deep in the BBC archives...

0:25:33 > 0:25:36Is an extraordinary, electric interview with the richest man on

0:25:36 > 0:25:44earth, conducted at his man -- mansion in Surrey. At the time it

0:25:44 > 0:25:48was like being invited to the Court of a king.Did you set out to become

0:25:48 > 0:25:54the richest man in the world? No, I never had any interest. I was the

0:25:54 > 0:25:59only child and I had to carry all the business.Alan wasn't just

0:25:59 > 0:26:03interested in how Getty inherited an oil empire and grew it into

0:26:03 > 0:26:08something vast, he wanted to know what made the man take. There are

0:26:08 > 0:26:12great many stories of your care with money, for example you've installed

0:26:12 > 0:26:19up a telephone box to prevent your guests abusing your hospitality by

0:26:19 > 0:26:25drunken calls. My guests would think that the benefit. It is daunting

0:26:25 > 0:26:29when you have to put in a long-distance call and charge your

0:26:29 > 0:26:35host with it.What came back was measured, calculated, so cool that

0:26:35 > 0:26:40seemed devoid of everything. It does seem you have been fairly ruthless

0:26:40 > 0:26:44in your personal relationships. You left your wives at the time of the

0:26:44 > 0:26:50birth of your children to go back to your business. Have you always put

0:26:50 > 0:26:54business first? Not any kind of business but important business.

0:26:54 > 0:26:59What would be important enough to take you away?Informed decisions

0:26:59 > 0:27:03have to be quickly made. They always say business before pleasure and

0:27:03 > 0:27:07maybe there is too much of it in my marriages. How do you think your

0:27:07 > 0:27:12relationship with other people would change if by some catastrophe you

0:27:12 > 0:27:17lost all your money?I hope I would have three or four friends laughed.

0:27:17 > 0:27:22Getty ran his billion-dollar business from his 72 room mansion.

0:27:22 > 0:27:27Denise worked there in the 1970s, counting the cash for one of his

0:27:27 > 0:27:34many companies. The own written rule would have been you don't talk about

0:27:34 > 0:27:40Mystic Getty's personal life. He was a private man and I respected his

0:27:40 > 0:27:44status. We would see him about the Estates occasionally, particularly

0:27:44 > 0:27:52when he went to visit his lion. We used to have an office party every

0:27:52 > 0:27:57year and one year he came to it, and to an extent he was very friendly

0:27:57 > 0:28:03with some of his employees, those that were above me.Eventually Alan

0:28:03 > 0:28:08Wicker asked the question you have to ask the richest man on earth,

0:28:08 > 0:28:13does money make you happy?Using to be a melancholy man, Mr Getty, in

0:28:13 > 0:28:18fact you often look so miserable people must believe the money has

0:28:18 > 0:28:22not brought you much happiness? That is the effect of responsibility.

0:28:22 > 0:28:26Ever since my father died, I haven't had the buoyant feeling I had

0:28:26 > 0:28:34before.Presumably you believe money doesn't buy you happiness, what else

0:28:34 > 0:28:40does it not buy?It cannot buy you health. Some of the best times I had

0:28:40 > 0:28:44don't cost any money, down on the beach on the surfboard, not spending

0:28:44 > 0:28:52any money there.

0:28:53 > 0:28:55Fascinating insight into John Paul Getty, a decade before

0:28:55 > 0:28:56the kidnap of his grandson.

0:28:56 > 0:28:58Well, that's all we've got time for.

0:28:58 > 0:28:59A big thanks to our guests.

0:28:59 > 0:29:03You can see Emilia and Liz in Silent Witness tonight at 9pm on BBC One.

0:29:03 > 0:29:05And to Matt Forde, who is back with Unspun

0:29:05 > 0:29:11on Dave from January 28th.

0:29:11 > 0:29:18Before we go, we were sorry to hear of the sad death today of the

0:29:18 > 0:29:27unforgettable Dolores O'Riordan. She performed on the show with her band

0:29:27 > 0:29:38last year, the Cranberries.
