:00:19. > :00:26.Hello and welcome to the One Show with Michelle Ackerley. And Amol

:00:27. > :00:29.Rajan. We have two great guests tonight, Springwatch's Michaela

:00:30. > :00:33.Strachan will be talking about the new series and giving us lots of

:00:34. > :00:42.fantastic footage of hairy beasts in the wild. And here is our other

:00:43. > :00:50.guest tonight! Oh, dear! Where you going? I'm getting out. That is much

:00:51. > :00:57.too cold. Sweet mercy! Its lesser spotted water beast also known as

:00:58. > :01:06.Marcus Brigstocke. That is from your new show, The Joy Of Techs, which is

:01:07. > :01:11.about techies. What were you doing there? OK, so that was... I am so

:01:12. > :01:15.thrilled you opened with that flattering footage! That was a

:01:16. > :01:19.competition between Alex Conran and I, the other guy in the show. He is

:01:20. > :01:31.for technology, I'm against it. He had a heated wet suit, I had goose

:01:32. > :01:37.fat. He won. Was actually a hat? That they bear that I fell into. It

:01:38. > :01:44.is beautiful. It looks like my beard. It was so cold. I think it

:01:45. > :01:49.was 0 degrees. It looked terrifying. We will talk more about your show

:01:50. > :01:53.later. You might be interested in the first film because one of the

:01:54. > :01:57.problems with our increasing reliance on new technology is that

:01:58. > :02:01.criminals can exploit it. Kevin has been looking at a new type of car

:02:02. > :02:06.crime which means that crooks can take your car without touching your

:02:07. > :02:10.keys. It's the middle of the night. Two

:02:11. > :02:14.men seem to be lurking close to a car parked on a private driveway.

:02:15. > :02:19.One of them holds what looks like a bag up to the property wall. The

:02:20. > :02:23.other tries the car door, which opens. They then climb in and appear

:02:24. > :02:32.to effortlessly drive the vehicle away. Text Savvy -- tech savvy

:02:33. > :02:37.thieves use specialist equipment to amplified signal between the car and

:02:38. > :02:40.a key fob, tricking the technology into thinking it is nearer the car

:02:41. > :02:46.than it actually is. This new trend of crime only affects cars with

:02:47. > :02:48.keyless technology. Vehicles which don't need a traditional key to

:02:49. > :02:55.enter the car and to start the engine. Richard Hayden owns the car

:02:56. > :02:59.seen in the footage, and he believes this is what happened to him. I

:03:00. > :03:02.thought it was a joke or something to start with. You don't think it

:03:03. > :03:07.could have happened to you. It must have taken them two or three

:03:08. > :03:11.minutes. It wasn't -- they weren't fazed or any rush. The five Minute

:03:12. > :03:18.Drive away, this man had a similar experience. I looked on the drive

:03:19. > :03:22.and the car wasn't there. Then was like, my car has gone! I've had it

:03:23. > :03:26.for seven days! The first thing that went through my mind was committed

:03:27. > :03:32.by lock it? I checked that he's so I was like, how did they get in? But

:03:33. > :03:39.they also captured the theft on CCTV. The fellow had a hand-held

:03:40. > :03:45.device. Used it to unlock the car, start it and take it away in 30

:03:46. > :03:48.seconds. Couldn't believe it. Andy Davies heads up the transport

:03:49. > :03:55.division at cyber security firm NCC. Explain how it works. The way the

:03:56. > :03:59.system is designed, the key fob needs to be in or around a metre

:04:00. > :04:03.from the car door so that the car can be unlocked and the engine can

:04:04. > :04:06.be started, so the attacker is manipulating the radio waves and

:04:07. > :04:12.boosting the signal between the car and the key fob, and then the car

:04:13. > :04:18.can be started. Are all cars at risk? All of the cars that use this

:04:19. > :04:23.technology are potentially at risk. It's a technology problem rather

:04:24. > :04:25.than one associated with a particular manufacturer. To

:04:26. > :04:30.demonstrate how some car owners can become a victim of this crime, Andy

:04:31. > :04:33.and his colleague Ivan offered to perform their own mock daylight

:04:34. > :04:38.robbery especially for us. I am parking up a keyless car, locking it

:04:39. > :04:44.and putting the key fob inside the house. So, with the key supposedly

:04:45. > :04:49.safely locked away in the house, I'm going to make a brute. Do you want

:04:50. > :04:53.one? The car they are planning to make away with is similar to one of

:04:54. > :04:59.those stolen in the footage. On first try, as expected, the car

:05:00. > :05:03.doesn't open, but then they put their electronics into action. For

:05:04. > :05:08.security reasons, we can't show the exact process, but what we can see

:05:09. > :05:13.is, in just over a minute, he can open a locked vehicle, start the

:05:14. > :05:18.engine and drive straight. It was quicker than it took me to make a

:05:19. > :05:22.cup of tea! So that is representative of what they are

:05:23. > :05:26.doing. Yes, and they are more practice than we are. Police chiefs

:05:27. > :05:30.say this type of theft is a small but growing feature of vehicle

:05:31. > :05:33.crime. This comes as latest crime figures showed the number of

:05:34. > :05:41.vehicles reported stolen in England and Wales rose by 16% last year.

:05:42. > :05:46.This man is from the society of motor manufacturers and traders. We

:05:47. > :05:49.have seen electronic compromise increased a bit, so manufacturers

:05:50. > :05:53.invest significant sums trying to develop new technologies to prevent

:05:54. > :05:58.this happening. The criminals are also trying, so it's a cat and mouse

:05:59. > :06:03.game. Car crime has fallen by something like 85% over the last 20

:06:04. > :06:06.years, but there is no room for complacency. Is there anything we

:06:07. > :06:11.can do to protect the cars ourselves? The manufacturers have

:06:12. > :06:17.offered options so you can temporarily turn off remote key

:06:18. > :06:20.entry. -- remote keyless entry. You could investigate that, but a simple

:06:21. > :06:24.and you could do is make sure you don't leave your people in line of

:06:25. > :06:29.sight, and the signal that unlocks the car and starts the engine comes

:06:30. > :06:34.from the keep up, so find a place within your house where you can't

:06:35. > :06:43.unlock your car and keep your key fob there. So, until car technology

:06:44. > :06:47.can outsmart -- outsmart criminals and once again, all we can do is

:06:48. > :06:54.keep our vehicles safe, out of sight and hopefully out of range. Good

:06:55. > :07:00.advice, but it is worrying how tech savvy criminals are. To refine. I'm

:07:01. > :07:05.going to keep my car safer than it is. -- terrifying. Marcus, you know

:07:06. > :07:08.what it's like to lose your vehicle from outside your door. I had a

:07:09. > :07:16.beautiful motorhome which played host to so many... Genuinely a

:07:17. > :07:20.brand-new motorhome. It played host to many comedians. I talked it over

:07:21. > :07:26.Europe with my kids and I've been on tour with it. It was stolen from

:07:27. > :07:29.outside my house full I suspect they didn't do the key fob then, they

:07:30. > :07:35.just pulled the door and it gave way. I was gutted. So many years,

:07:36. > :07:42.and all the kids' fun things we collected from touring. Will there

:07:43. > :07:50.be a new one? Yes, Mach two is on its way. Your new series, Aintree

:07:51. > :07:56.macro, starts on Tuesday. -- The Joy Of Techs. You and your mate Alex

:07:57. > :08:00.wander around with gadgets. He is pro-name-15-macro, so he is on board

:08:01. > :08:04.with everything. Very often, if you have a gadget show, you don't see

:08:05. > :08:09.people joining up the Bluetooth, having to find a signal, reading the

:08:10. > :08:13.instructions, so I made him do that and I go, on camera, I want you to

:08:14. > :08:17.try and make this thing work. Half the time, you are baffled by it.

:08:18. > :08:25.You're coming across as a very embarrassing dad. I know! Your

:08:26. > :08:32.teenagers must hate it when you do that at school. I've got one of

:08:33. > :08:42.those new phones, it's really good. You put petrol in the back... Are

:08:43. > :08:47.you each other's nemesis? A bit. Alex is the guy from The Real Hustle

:08:48. > :08:52.and he is a brilliant card magician and I met him playing poker with

:08:53. > :08:56.him. I haven't won a hand to get an idea what any minute I'm going to.

:08:57. > :08:59.Can kind of seat in the the competitive element between you.

:09:00. > :09:06.There is a sledging challenge between you. What does that

:09:07. > :09:10.involved? That was a bit difficult, because that instance is where I had

:09:11. > :09:13.to pretend the old wooden setup sledge I had was brilliant and I

:09:14. > :09:21.loved it. He had an inflatable, comfy, right on Luge and I didn't

:09:22. > :09:25.get a go. I have seen a sneak preview and how can I put this? It

:09:26. > :09:39.isn't exactly the winter Olympics. Yeah! It is manoeuvrable, that

:09:40. > :09:46.thing. So is mine! Great manoeuvre! Never get anywhere near my stuff.

:09:47. > :09:59.No, no! You haven't! See you at the lake. No! You utter idiot! You see?

:10:00. > :10:03.A bit of old school tech. Move on. You come across as quite vindictive.

:10:04. > :10:07.Are you actually like that? Lovely to meet you! That is the nature of

:10:08. > :10:12.the show, Alex and I making it difficult for each other. Wood what

:10:13. > :10:19.was the most pointless there is a sock sorter. A device where you have

:10:20. > :10:22.things in your socks and you pass it over a device and it tells your

:10:23. > :10:25.phone whether it is the left or the right one, how many times you have

:10:26. > :10:29.watched it and whether it is a parent with another one. That is

:10:30. > :10:34.just utterly pointless. -- whether it is paired. And it could really

:10:35. > :10:41.revolutionise your life. That is my protest. There been some gadget,

:10:42. > :10:51.Marcus, that you fell in love with. Were you ever converted bastion mark

:10:52. > :10:54.there was a copy machine with an -- app where any coffee you want,

:10:55. > :10:59.whatever the type of beans, however much milk you want, you tap a button

:11:00. > :11:03.and it comes out of a tackle, and I really wanted to hate it and it made

:11:04. > :11:06.me a cup of the exactly how I like it. Those have been around for a

:11:07. > :11:14.long time. That doesn't sound bad news. Sounds like a normal machine!

:11:15. > :11:19.The place is called Costa... No, it's one machine. I think it was

:11:20. > :11:27.four grand and it takes up as much space as a dishwasher so I loved it

:11:28. > :11:35.but at the same time... Wasn't there a jet pack? Yes, I had a bit of a

:11:36. > :11:44.and stole it. What you are right! You know what I mean? -- you are

:11:45. > :11:48.right. We had a race, in a rowing boat, very peaceful, trying to show

:11:49. > :11:52.people what it's like to be gentle, and Alex showed up on that. So I got

:11:53. > :12:01.his key fob, I nicked it and I wrote it. Not competitive at all! Not in

:12:02. > :12:05.the slightest. Dizzy Marcus and Alexis battling it out on all things

:12:06. > :12:11.tech, The Joy Of Techs starts on Monday. Marcus isn't the only one

:12:12. > :12:14.who can pick traditional methods against their new, high-tech

:12:15. > :12:18.equivalents. Mike has been to see if there is more than one to catch a

:12:19. > :12:22.fish. There is nothing more tranquil than

:12:23. > :12:25.an afternoon fishing on a British river bank, just you and your rod

:12:26. > :12:32.waiting patiently and quietly for any movement on the water. Get out

:12:33. > :12:37.of it! Buzz of! Technology controls our daily lives like never before,

:12:38. > :12:45.and it's even muscling in on one of Britain's favourite pastimes,

:12:46. > :12:49.fishing. Small sonars are sometimes found on drones, allowing you to see

:12:50. > :12:57.underwater to help locate fish. From above, drones are now helping

:12:58. > :13:01.fishermen to catch from the air. Timothy small manages Lechlade trout

:13:02. > :13:07.fishery in Gloucestershire. He is a top angler and a drone enthusiast.

:13:08. > :13:12.What are the pros of using this technology? It allows me to cast my

:13:13. > :13:16.line out where I normally couldn't. If I am casting into a strong wind,

:13:17. > :13:23.the drone does the work for me. Which technique is best, aerial

:13:24. > :13:28.angling or fly fishing? We are going to set both methods head-to-head to

:13:29. > :13:32.catch as many fish in this stopped late as possible. Our certified

:13:33. > :13:40.drone pilot, Lawrence, will be in charge of flying the drone out

:13:41. > :13:45.dropping it on command with a line attached to Jim's rod. The camera

:13:46. > :13:50.might help as well. Hopefully the camera might let us see where the

:13:51. > :13:55.fish are and drop it in a specific place. It might not be that simple.

:13:56. > :13:58.Pilot error, lines getting tangled and battery is running out goods

:13:59. > :14:05.will mean the drone ends up sleeping with the fishes. We have our drone

:14:06. > :14:10.fishing team, but we also need somebody to represent the old school

:14:11. > :14:17.method of Hook and line, so I have called on an angling expert, this

:14:18. > :14:20.national fishing champion. I don't think I would ever compete with a

:14:21. > :14:27.fly line. It doesn't give you the same knowledge. I am fishing before

:14:28. > :14:31.I am fishing, thinking where the fish are, what depth they could be

:14:32. > :14:36.at, where is the food, so I'm thinking, and a drone is just

:14:37. > :14:47.dropping it. Is time for battle to commence. Teen Drone, are you ready?

:14:48. > :14:56.Ready. Craig, are you ready? Ready. Three, two, one, let's fish. They

:14:57. > :15:00.were able to set the fly out quite a long way, which is good news for

:15:01. > :15:07.Tim. After nearly half an hour, Craig gets a fish. Craig is one nil

:15:08. > :15:10.up. -- 1-0 up. They can be very precise with where they put the fly

:15:11. > :15:17.but they are not getting the number of costs in and Craig is using every

:15:18. > :15:23.ounce of his experience. -- the number of casts in. While team drone

:15:24. > :15:26.are struggling, Craig has another fish, another beautiful rainbow

:15:27. > :15:37.trout. At the moment, there is no competition. Well done, sir. OK,

:15:38. > :15:44.guys. End of the line. Reel them in. Time is up.

:15:45. > :15:55.The results are in A.D. The decision is definitive. Craig, four fish,

:15:56. > :16:00.Team Drone, zero. Is it a surprise? No, I am not surprised. I think it

:16:01. > :16:04.could have been one of briefings, the fish might have thought that it

:16:05. > :16:12.was a bird of prey. Or I might just not be a very good fisherman! To the

:16:13. > :16:19.winner, the spoils. Congratulations! Thank you. There you go, Marcus! We

:16:20. > :16:27.tried herding sheep with the drone versus a dog and the dog won. The

:16:28. > :16:34.old ways are sometimes the best. We have been joined by Michaela

:16:35. > :16:41.Strachan from Springwatch. Talking about drones, you use drone

:16:42. > :16:45.technology in the new series? We get beautiful shots of where we are by

:16:46. > :16:50.using the drone, I think it is on Tuesday. I say hopefully because

:16:51. > :16:55.plans change from day to day on Springwatch. The plan is for Martin

:16:56. > :17:02.to put a thermal camera on a drone and go and see if he can find baby

:17:03. > :17:05.hares, which are very, very difficult to see on the ground. It

:17:06. > :17:12.is useful for that kind of thing, then, isn't it? As I say, yes, it is

:17:13. > :17:17.beautiful for giving people an idea of the space and that sort of thing.

:17:18. > :17:21.In the old days, it would have needed a helicopter, which is hugely

:17:22. > :17:27.expensive. The new series starts on Monday, and from a new location,

:17:28. > :17:33.where is it? It is in Gloucestershire, in the Cotswolds,

:17:34. > :17:40.it is called Sherborne Park, the national park. It is different for

:17:41. > :17:45.us, normally go to an RSPB reserve, which is very managed for wildlife.

:17:46. > :17:48.This is managed by the National Trust, not necessarily just for

:17:49. > :17:55.wildlife. So, what are you hoping to see? Well, again, I say hopefully,

:17:56. > :17:58.we are hoping to see things like otters, because there are two rivers

:17:59. > :18:09.going through the estate. I love what is! I know! Foxes... If we get

:18:10. > :18:12.shots like that, we'll be delighted! Foxes, we are hoping to follow a

:18:13. > :18:17.family of Fox's. We are going to stay at the same site all year, so

:18:18. > :18:25.we will be able to follow the animals. In terms of birds, we got a

:18:26. > :18:36.fascinating story of blue tits where we found that a blue tit mother was

:18:37. > :18:38.bringing up great tit chicks. Is that big news in the bird world blue

:18:39. > :18:46.? I will take your word for it! . that big news in the bird world blue

:18:47. > :19:00.And a couple of series ago, we had that big news in the bird world blue

:19:01. > :19:08.stars. Here's Spineless Si, a stickleback, he should

:19:09. > :19:08.stars. Here's Spineless Si, a we called him Spineless Si. He

:19:09. > :19:17.wasn't getting the we called him Spineless Si. He

:19:18. > :19:38.got all the women and they laid the eggs, and

:19:39. > :19:38.got all the women and they laid the Twitter following! He was on the

:19:39. > :19:48.front page Twitter following! He was on the

:19:49. > :19:58.celebrated wildlife encounter? I swam with a polar bear,

:19:59. > :20:07.celebrated wildlife encounter? I one of the film-makers said,

:20:08. > :20:07.celebrated wildlife encounter? I he had had enough of me. I'm

:20:08. > :20:14.climbing down the he had had enough of me. I'm

:20:15. > :20:25.Brilliant! No, it's a bear! And you can

:20:26. > :20:34.towards the boat, I was terrified! Do you

:20:35. > :20:54.thought I was eight. Exactly! Springwatch

:20:55. > :20:55.thought I was eight. Exactly! colourful. These three people all

:20:56. > :21:04.thought I was eight. Exactly! have one thing in common. Like

:21:05. > :21:14.thought I was eight. Exactly! I think the world is slightly more

:21:15. > :21:22.thought I was eight. Exactly! to be able to see red as

:21:23. > :21:22.thought I was eight. Exactly! should be able to perceive colour

:21:23. > :21:29.like the rest of us. should be able to perceive colour

:21:30. > :21:38.don't see the same range of colours should be able to perceive colour

:21:39. > :21:48.stems from a malfunction at the back of your eye. Your eyes

:21:49. > :21:48.stems from a malfunction at the back one will absorb a different colour

:21:49. > :21:59.of light one will absorb a different colour

:22:00. > :22:06.then those pigments are slightly faulty. So, there is

:22:07. > :22:06.then those pigments are slightly The extra overlap in this area means

:22:07. > :22:24.that people with The extra overlap in this area means

:22:25. > :22:31.they should be able to The extra overlap in this area means

:22:32. > :22:38.The glasses were created to The extra overlap in this area means

:22:39. > :22:54.lasers. But pairs of glasses started to go

:22:55. > :23:28.look very different. It really is quite

:23:29. > :23:28.look very different. It really is blocks the wavelengths which people

:23:29. > :23:59.distinguish between red and growing more

:24:00. > :24:00.so strange! The glasses are no longer just protective eyewear for

:24:01. > :24:19.surgeons longer just protective eyewear for

:24:20. > :24:31.wonderful that those people are seeing those colours for

:24:32. > :24:31.wonderful that those people are Yes, he bought a burgundy car, he

:24:32. > :24:39.thought, and it was a Yes, he bought a burgundy car, he

:24:40. > :24:47.has describe it as burgundy! . Dad, what have you done?!

:24:48. > :24:47.has describe it as burgundy! . Dad, you so much for being with us

:24:48. > :24:54.tonight. We are out you so much for being with us

:24:55. > :25:09.Two. The Joy Of Techs starts on Dave on Tuesday. Ore

:25:10. > :25:13.When it came to my TV habits, I'd watch anything.
