:00:16. > :00:18.Hello and welcome to a new week on The One Show with Alex Jones...

:00:19. > :00:22.Our guest tonight is a big star in her own right,

:00:23. > :00:24.who's sold millions of records as part of the biggest

:00:25. > :00:27.girl group in history - but she's not here to talk

:00:28. > :00:31.At Christmas, her close friend George Michael passed away,

:00:32. > :00:33.and she's put her feelings for him into a new record,

:00:34. > :01:03.Welcome back. Good to be back. I have to say, congratulations.

:01:04. > :01:14.Congratulations to you. We are both Mum now! You 20th of January? 22nd.

:01:15. > :01:20.Welcome to The One Show, everyone! How was it going? Baby is beautiful,

:01:21. > :01:26.but, I'm not going to lie, it is quite tiring, isn't it? There's a

:01:27. > :01:32.lot of make-up going on. A lot of concealer here and there. Geri, you

:01:33. > :01:36.are here tonight because you are going to be performing for us. It is

:01:37. > :01:42.the first performance of this new record on television. It is. It's a

:01:43. > :01:43.bit nerve-racking. I'm a little bit nervous, but it feels good with you

:01:44. > :01:48.lot. You are amongst friends. Now, with banking interest

:01:49. > :01:51.rates at an all time low, you might be tempted

:01:52. > :01:53.to look at other ways to make your money grow -

:01:54. > :01:55.if you're lucky enough And, that's exactly what one

:01:56. > :01:59.pensioner did when she decided to place a small fortune in

:02:00. > :02:01.a new online investment opportunity. It was labelled as "risk-free" but,

:02:02. > :02:13.as Nick Wallis explains, Brexit and the recent snap election

:02:14. > :02:18.may have sent shock waves across global markets, but there are always

:02:19. > :02:22.investors who will make big money if they are prepared to gamble. Yet for

:02:23. > :02:26.a growing number of people in the UK, it's not just the stock market

:02:27. > :02:30.you are taking a risk on, it's the companies you are trusting your

:02:31. > :02:34.money with. The fastest-growing investment fraud on the planet is in

:02:35. > :02:39.something called binary options. The idea is that you hand over your cash

:02:40. > :02:46.and then you guess where the financial -- whether financial

:02:47. > :02:49.assets will rise or fall on the stock market. Guess right, and you

:02:50. > :02:54.can win big. But getting your hands on the cash can be a lot more

:02:55. > :02:58.difficult. Whilst there are legitimate binary options companies

:02:59. > :03:04.out there, fraudulent firms took almost ?40 million from investors

:03:05. > :03:09.last year alone. One such investor is a widow Elizabeth Ablett. She

:03:10. > :03:17.moved to the UK from Russia 20 years ago. In December, she turned to this

:03:18. > :03:23.company to fund her retirement. How did binary options catch your eye?

:03:24. > :03:28.It was a short advert somewhere, a single mum can and this money, you

:03:29. > :03:34.can do the same. Their broker sounded very honest and decent. The

:03:35. > :03:38.company even sent Elizabeth a contract, promising that her money

:03:39. > :03:45.would be in safe hands. This is one of these fully insured contracts? It

:03:46. > :03:49.says, risk level, none. Every ordinary person seeing this from the

:03:50. > :03:55.company would believe... I believed. How much of your money did you hand

:03:56. > :04:02.over to these people? ?42,000. Elisabeth could see her online

:04:03. > :04:07.account was going up, at one stage reaching ?120,000. But when she

:04:08. > :04:12.tried to withdraw any of her money, the broker disappeared. A familiar

:04:13. > :04:17.tale, according to this solicitor. It is a massive, worldwide problem.

:04:18. > :04:22.Contracts like these are typical of what the fraudsters send out to

:04:23. > :04:25.clients. They try to build trust with the client. They have no

:04:26. > :04:31.intention of adhering to this. As soon as they have your money, they

:04:32. > :04:36.will run away. So who are Binary Uno? The company claims to be based

:04:37. > :04:40.in Glasgow, but that is nothing more than a virtual office. They are

:04:41. > :04:45.addressed abroad, and there is an address here at the Seychelles, and

:04:46. > :04:50.their website is registered in Panama. They are unregulated by UK

:04:51. > :04:56.authorities, but they have a live chat function online. I'm going to

:04:57. > :05:01.use it to get in touch, posing as an investor. If I invest any money in

:05:02. > :05:06.your site, is it secure and can I withdraw it at any time? Binary Uno

:05:07. > :05:11.are saying, of course, we use the same systems as the thanks for a

:05:12. > :05:17.money transfer. It says here you can withdraw your funds at any time. So

:05:18. > :05:22.where has Elizabeth's money gone? I arranged for Binary Uno to call me

:05:23. > :05:23.back. This time, with Elizabeth listening in. How secure is my

:05:24. > :05:35.money? It's clear they will say anything to

:05:36. > :05:40.get my money. Time to come clean. I'm not going to give you any money,

:05:41. > :05:45.and there is a reason for that. I'm a BBC reporter working for The One

:05:46. > :05:50.Show, and I've got someone sitting here who's invested ?40,000 into

:05:51. > :05:59.company-macro, and she hasn't seen a penny of it. Where has that gone?

:06:00. > :06:03.She lost it in the market. I am looking at a contract now saying

:06:04. > :06:16.there is a risk level of zero. Could you just reassure us that Elizabeth

:06:17. > :06:19.Ablett will receive her money back? There you go, Elizabeth. Very

:06:20. > :06:24.defensive and he couldn't explain where your money had gone. He

:06:25. > :06:28.couldn't explain anything to do with a risk-free contracts, and he said

:06:29. > :06:33.you lost it on trade. It's rubbish. I didn't lose anything. The money is

:06:34. > :06:36.somewhere on their bank account. Binary Uno still haven't returned

:06:37. > :06:43.any of Elizabeth's money and they are still trading. Elizabeth, what

:06:44. > :06:48.would you say to anybody thinking of investing in binary trade options

:06:49. > :06:53.through Binary Uno? I wouldn't advise anybody to go near them.

:06:54. > :06:56.Please take the time to talk to someone you know and trust before

:06:57. > :06:57.you invest in anything you see online.

:06:58. > :07:03.Geri, you very quickly made a lot of money at a very young age -

:07:04. > :07:15.Where did you go for financial advice? I had a great example from

:07:16. > :07:22.my mother of work ethic. She comes from that work hard, and she was a

:07:23. > :07:28.cleaner. I had six jobs a week. I worked in a bar, I was cleaning, I

:07:29. > :07:33.was studying, so I always had that good work ethic. Sometimes when you

:07:34. > :07:38.work hard, it made me really appreciate in value what I have. My

:07:39. > :07:41.mother had a very seat on the ground approach to everything. But I think

:07:42. > :07:48.it is brilliant that The One Show can stick up for people and just

:07:49. > :07:51.expose it. It's a wonderful thing, because it can happen to anyone.

:07:52. > :07:58.Absolutely. We are going to talk about George in detail in a moment.

:07:59. > :08:02.Were you a fan of Wham! growing up? I was a massive fan. I went to their

:08:03. > :08:11.concerts, I thought I was going to marry him when I grew up. Favourite

:08:12. > :08:16.song? Freedom, from Wham!. We are going to talk about your tribute in

:08:17. > :08:24.a moment. First, have a look at ours. Here we go. When I was born,

:08:25. > :08:35.and they slapped me on the bottom, I didn't cry, I just sang.

:08:36. > :08:43.It is a big laugh. We don't get up there and say, look at us, aren't we

:08:44. > :08:51.sexy. We do, but it's a joke. We see the funny side of it. Why do you

:08:52. > :08:55.think you get criticised? Because we are the only band at the moment who

:08:56. > :08:59.are totally unashamed of being screamed at. Maybe it was

:09:00. > :09:04.unfortunate that I became well-known so young, because I think had I gone

:09:05. > :09:12.through it even four or five years later, I might have avoided some of

:09:13. > :09:16.the problems of my career. Face, the way I looked in the videos and

:09:17. > :09:24.stuff, was pretty much, sad as it is, how as I -- how I was walking

:09:25. > :09:29.about day-to-day. I was so confused about my sexuality and other things.

:09:30. > :09:33.I was prone to depression around loneliness, because it is very

:09:34. > :09:36.lonely if you are surrounded by people, but you are not really

:09:37. > :09:43.surrounded by anyone. # So much to lose

:09:44. > :09:53.# And what we had to learn... What was he like? What was he like? Ugly,

:09:54. > :09:58.spotty. It was trying to get this ugly duckling image across. When do

:09:59. > :10:05.you turn into this one? This is what we are waiting to see.

:10:06. > :10:12.That's quite sad. It must be hard for you to watch that, because you

:10:13. > :10:18.were very close friends with George. How did you meet him originally?

:10:19. > :10:24.First and foremost, I am a fan. When I became successful with the Spice

:10:25. > :10:29.Girls, we were at this radio awards ceremony at lunchtime, and I

:10:30. > :10:32.remember trying to shake off the other girls, wanting to go up to him

:10:33. > :10:44.without them. I think I pretended I was going to the loo. I went up to

:10:45. > :10:47.him and gave him big flirty eyes, and it didn't work. He gave a speech

:10:48. > :10:50.about losing his mother, and I had lost my dad. When someone is that

:10:51. > :10:55.honest, it gives a feeling of connection. I identified with that.

:10:56. > :11:00.We became friends. I found out I wasn't his cup of tea in that way.

:11:01. > :11:05.In life, I didn't see him all the time, but he is one of those people

:11:06. > :11:11.who, you know where your friends are when the chips hit the fan. He stood

:11:12. > :11:16.up for me. I lived with him when I had my first child, when I left the

:11:17. > :11:22.Spice Girls. Moments when I felt vulnerable, he stepped up for me.

:11:23. > :11:27.And with music, I would say, what do you think? It's definitely affected

:11:28. > :11:34.me when somebody... He meant a lot to me, he really did. How honest was

:11:35. > :11:39.he with you? Brutally honest. I really appreciate that, when

:11:40. > :11:44.somebody says, that's not so good. What did he say around the Spice

:11:45. > :11:50.Girls Time? He was always very feet on the ground. In that documentary,

:11:51. > :11:56.it comes through. He wasn't into the same side of it, and I saw that with

:11:57. > :12:01.him and appreciated it. We are discovering now what a generous

:12:02. > :12:06.person he was. Incredibly generous. He was with me, and relationships he

:12:07. > :12:10.had with people around him. He was a family man, but he treated everyone

:12:11. > :12:20.with respect. And the terrible news of his death was a huge shock to

:12:21. > :12:23.everybody. For you, it must have been absolutely awful. Where were

:12:24. > :12:27.you when you heard the news? It was Christmas Day, and I had an wrapped

:12:28. > :12:32.presents from him, and I thought, I would like to see him in the New

:12:33. > :12:38.Year. It was night-time. But even when I see the footage of him, you

:12:39. > :12:45.think, oh, my God. I can't believe he's gone. I've not quite digest did

:12:46. > :12:49.it. It's weird. Recently, as far as this music and this record is

:12:50. > :12:56.concerned, how has that helped you? How did the record come about? It

:12:57. > :13:02.has been amazing. The whole thing is very bittersweet. I was pregnant,

:13:03. > :13:06.like you, and all very hormonal and sensitive. When I got the news, I

:13:07. > :13:12.was in the middle of writing music. So I put all my feelings down, wrote

:13:13. > :13:18.the lyrics and a bit of melody, and then I created the song with some

:13:19. > :13:21.co-writers. I played it to the record company with some other songs

:13:22. > :13:28.and they said, we want to release that. I was like, really? Normally,

:13:29. > :13:33.that is when I would ask George what he thought. He wasn't there, so I

:13:34. > :13:41.asked with a producer called Chris Porter, who had worked with him for

:13:42. > :13:46.30 years, on Wham! and Jesus for a child. He said, ring up Shirley

:13:47. > :13:52.Lewis, his long-term backing singer. She is amazing, and I have a girl

:13:53. > :13:57.crush on her. She has amazing energy. When you are in a band, it's

:13:58. > :14:04.nice having that camaraderie. Having great backing singers who are really

:14:05. > :14:08.talented, but also having their energy. She and some others wanted

:14:09. > :14:13.to be part of it. These are people who have sung on all the songs you

:14:14. > :14:21.would know, Father Figure, Cowboys and Angels. They are so talented. It

:14:22. > :14:26.was an amazing gift. It is a seal of approval as well. You say you felt

:14:27. > :14:32.unsure about releasing it. If they are on board... Yes, it gave me

:14:33. > :14:39.courage. I went through a period of saying, what do you think? And he

:14:40. > :14:44.goes, leave time. I wanted to jump from a hot pants girl... Which we

:14:45. > :14:51.loved. To being a more mature artist. I was saying, how do you do

:14:52. > :14:57.that? Because he made that John. He said, leave time. Because this song

:14:58. > :15:03.is about him, and about us. If anybody who has lost anybody, there

:15:04. > :15:07.is great healing when you all come together. I feel better and joyful

:15:08. > :15:12.from working with these wonderful people. I feel like something has

:15:13. > :15:15.lifted. You talk about those wonderful people, and they are with

:15:16. > :15:21.us tonight. We can hear the secret to those wonderful tones right now.

:15:22. > :15:28.# I don't want your freedom not # I don't want to play around

:15:29. > :15:38.# I don't want nobody baby # Part-time love just brings me down

:15:39. > :15:44.# I don't want your freedom # Girl all I want right now is you #

:15:45. > :15:53.CHEERING APPLAUSE

:15:54. > :15:59.Great to hear that life. Another thing which occurred to me, I went

:16:00. > :16:06.on a pilgrimage and met up with Esther Rantzen and she told me...

:16:07. > :16:10.About how generous he was to ChildLine? Yeah, he gave all the

:16:11. > :16:16.royalties of from Jesus to a child to ChildLine and all the profits I

:16:17. > :16:20.make from this record will go to ChildLine and Stephen Fry I met him

:16:21. > :16:24.the other day and he said he was raising money for the Terrence

:16:25. > :16:28.Higgins trust and he said George pulled him aside and said you can

:16:29. > :16:34.have all the profits from Britain of ladies and gentlemen, the collection

:16:35. > :16:39.album. He was so, I didn't know that. Wow.

:16:40. > :16:42.Geri will be performing Angel In Chains in the studio later.

:16:43. > :16:44.Michael Douglas has been to Eastleigh, meanwhile,

:16:45. > :16:47.to find out why one woman's performance at a bus stop,

:16:48. > :16:56.of all places, led to her 15 minutes of fame.

:16:57. > :17:02.When it comes to stardom, to paraphrase Shakespeare, some are

:17:03. > :17:06.born to it, some Seagate and others have it thrust upon them. And it

:17:07. > :17:12.into that final category that a certain lady called LA from here in

:17:13. > :17:19.Eastleigh in Hampshire can firmly be put. Don't remember her? Maybe this

:17:20. > :17:23.footage will jog your memory. Whilst Ellison play waiting for the bus and

:17:24. > :17:32.listening to some urban songs she got the urge to shake her thing. And

:17:33. > :17:40.then she should get some more. Little did our bus stop booty shake

:17:41. > :17:45.her know that her whole performance was being recorded on a mobile

:17:46. > :17:50.phone. The footage taken by someone she had never even met was about to

:17:51. > :17:56.break the Internet. We have tracked Ellie down and are meeting her where

:17:57. > :18:01.the recording took place. Are you all right, nice to see you. So this

:18:02. > :18:08.is the window? Taylor it is indeed. There is the bus stop. Why did you

:18:09. > :18:16.start dancing that day? Taylor I had my headphones on and I blanked out

:18:17. > :18:23.was this usual behaviour for you? Friends of the family and my

:18:24. > :18:29.five-month-old daughter or look at me like I am a lunatic so yes. She

:18:30. > :18:33.was unaware of her dance moves had been caught on camera and the clip

:18:34. > :18:38.was on YouTube gaining millions of hits. She had gone viral. Only

:18:39. > :18:43.discovering she was an Internet sensation when her best friend

:18:44. > :18:55.called her at work. I went into the office and said have you seen this?

:18:56. > :18:58.They said yes. I was like why did you not tell me? They said we

:18:59. > :19:01.thought you knew. I said does this look like a face that would know

:19:02. > :19:08.that? She was splashed across the press and even made it onto the day

:19:09. > :19:18.programme in America. My mum always said I had more rhythm than sense.

:19:19. > :19:23.How did that feel? Quite exciting. While her 15 minutes of fame was

:19:24. > :19:28.nearing its end the star power of the local celebrity scene was far

:19:29. > :19:32.from over. One theatre director caught her performance and thought

:19:33. > :19:38.she really did have talent. How are you? After seeing this video of

:19:39. > :19:46.Ellie dancing what went through your mind? It was after I was doing the

:19:47. > :19:51.Ah Men sure I thought it would be nice to turn this situation around

:19:52. > :19:55.and give her a chance to dance on stage so she could have something to

:19:56. > :19:59.be proud of. I tracked her down and asked that she would like to come

:20:00. > :20:05.along to rehearsal and see how we got along. She did and I had a

:20:06. > :20:10.chance to give her her dream. And four Ellie, a former performing arts

:20:11. > :20:14.student that is exactly what it was. It came out of the blue and I

:20:15. > :20:17.thought it was brilliant. It was something I had always wanted to do

:20:18. > :20:26.and it's a little thing ticked off the bucket list that I have managed

:20:27. > :20:29.to do something like that. This is the story of how one bit of mobile

:20:30. > :20:31.phone footage can catapult you from the bus stop to the big-time almost

:20:32. > :20:37.overnight. And jet the whole thing happened so quickly Ellie never got

:20:38. > :20:41.the chance to do the one thing that everyone who tread the boards longs

:20:42. > :20:49.to do, and on court. But let's put that right! -- an encore. But first

:20:50. > :20:57.I need to get her cameraready. Are you ready? Yes I am. One, two, one,

:20:58. > :21:08.two, three, four. # You can dance

:21:09. > :21:14.# You can jive # Having the time of your life

:21:15. > :21:18.# See that girl # Watch that scene

:21:19. > :21:26.# Digging the Dancing Queen! # And Ellie the Dancing Queen

:21:27. > :21:29.is with us tonight, and she's still going,

:21:30. > :21:36.throwing some shapes But, Geri - can you guess

:21:37. > :21:48.which famous Spice Girls She is doing that, I think it is

:21:49. > :21:54.Spice Up Your Life. Let's have a listen... Take your headphones

:21:55. > :22:01.off... Yes! APPLAUSE Tell us you are a big Spice Girls

:22:02. > :22:08.fan? A huge fan. I love you Geri. How many hits do you have globally?

:22:09. > :22:15.About 100 million. APPLAUSE Incredible. But you are not at the

:22:16. > :22:19.bus stop because you are a full-time mum. Five-month-old as well! Do not

:22:20. > :22:26.worry we will get you a taxi home. Over the weekend, more than 100,000

:22:27. > :22:29.people gathered in a field to enjoy one of

:22:30. > :22:31.the biggest festivals in Europe. It has to be Glastonbury,

:22:32. > :22:46.hasn't it? I have come to Birmingham for a

:22:47. > :22:54.party. This is the night of the Moon and its preparation for Eid. It

:22:55. > :22:59.marks the end of Ramadan. The night before it is tradition to gather in

:23:00. > :23:04.the street and celebrate. That is traditional Eid food, rich tea

:23:05. > :23:07.biscuits, thank you. It is community, everyone is out and

:23:08. > :23:17.enjoying themselves and having a good time. This is the party before

:23:18. > :23:22.the party. It's getting really loud note here. I am going to speak to

:23:23. > :23:27.the family. After the recent terror attacks like many people out here

:23:28. > :23:31.they believe this event is more important than ever. It is very

:23:32. > :23:34.important that we should be more visible. I will say to my brothers

:23:35. > :23:41.and sisters that they should come out, too sure their solidarity and

:23:42. > :23:46.this is how we can defeat terrorism. Politics aside there are other
