:00:21. > :00:26.Hello, welcome to The One Show with Alex Jones and Matt Baker. Joining
:00:26. > :00:30.us tonight is one man who rose to fame playing Jesus on the telly.
:00:30. > :00:37.And another who most likely used that name in vain when he was
:00:37. > :00:41.buried alive with rats in the jungle. It's Robert Powell and Joe
:00:41. > :00:45.Pasquale! Good to see you lads. Delighted to have you both on the
:00:45. > :00:51.sofa. It's a funny little come Bo. What brought you two together?
:00:51. > :00:55.a play, Doctor In The House, which is about doctors .? The house.
:00:55. > :01:00.That's it really. There's no more to be said. You only started
:01:00. > :01:08.rehearsals a day before yesterday. On Monday. You would have thought
:01:08. > :01:17.what's he doing with him? We are not picking out curtains but we are
:01:17. > :01:23.getting on. It is a classic medical comedy. Is it full of innuendos and
:01:23. > :01:27.bedpans? Just one. We'll talk more about it later on. Today is
:01:27. > :01:32.February 29th, a day that only occurs once every four years. So we
:01:32. > :01:36.want to make it as special as possible for any leap year babies.
:01:36. > :01:43.In fact we've invited a few into the studio for a bit of a party.
:01:43. > :01:49.And look at them go! They are maizeing this lot. They are all
:01:49. > :01:54.being a bit polite. Nobody's touched the sausages. My mum is a
:01:54. > :01:59.leap year baby. All I'm saying is she is over ten. Di invite her to
:01:59. > :02:06.the studio but she's lambing on the farm, so she's bassy. Happy
:02:06. > :02:11.birthday, mum. Happy birthday. If it is your birthday send us a
:02:11. > :02:17.picture of you celebrating. E-mail them to us and we'll show some
:02:17. > :02:21.later on. First, only dating is no longer a taboo subject, as more and
:02:22. > :02:27.more people are openly looking for lover in this way. But sadly that
:02:27. > :02:32.also increasing the chances of being duped. Anita Rani spent time
:02:32. > :02:38.with one woman hoping that the man of her dreams for real. I want you
:02:38. > :02:42.to know how much I love you. We've been through so much these past
:02:42. > :02:47.months. Chartered surveyor Anna Pike had been unsure what to expect
:02:47. > :02:50.from online date being. After just a month a dashing American soldier
:02:50. > :02:55.picked her out of thousands of other women looking for love online.
:02:55. > :03:00.I literally sit on the edge to which sofa waiting for his
:03:00. > :03:05.responses. That's how relation it's got. Online dating is big business.
:03:05. > :03:07.Millions of us look for romance online every year. While the
:03:07. > :03:13.majority of people on these websites are genuine there are
:03:13. > :03:17.those unfortunately who see this as a great way to exploit. But it is
:03:17. > :03:21.never easy to tell the genuine suitors from the fraudsters,
:03:21. > :03:27.especially when they are sending photographs that appear to be
:03:27. > :03:30.authentic. 50-year-old widow Anna came to One Show so we could help
:03:30. > :03:34.her find out whether her online relationship was too good to be
:03:34. > :03:42.true. I fell in love with his personality, the way he spoke to me,
:03:42. > :03:48.the way we've talked on the phone, on text messages. Photographs,
:03:48. > :03:56.Skype. When I first spoke to him, he was serving in Afghanistan. I
:03:57. > :04:00.did ask him what rank he was, and when he told me he said he was
:04:00. > :04:04.Captain Ingram Roberts, that he had served in the United States Army in
:04:05. > :04:11.the military for 20 years. He was due for retirement. The reason he
:04:11. > :04:17.picked me up on the dating line was because he noticed that I was a
:04:17. > :04:21.widow. And he is also a widow. Captain Roberts seemed perfect -
:04:21. > :04:26.kind, thoughtful and compassionate. Everything Anna had hoped for when
:04:26. > :04:32.she registered online. But recently she received a different e-mail
:04:32. > :04:39.asking for more than just affection. I actually said I would like him to
:04:39. > :04:44.come out of the Army. He said yes, he could do that, but it would cost.
:04:44. > :04:48.Anna wired nearly 5 ,000 in cash through Western Union to buy him
:04:48. > :04:55.out of the Army, and this wasn't the last of it. Then they
:04:55. > :05:02.discovered he had got some kind of infection in his leg. He requested,
:05:02. > :05:07.I still need another 2,000 to cover the operation.. He was
:05:07. > :05:15.concerned that if the money didn't get paid for his medical bill, he
:05:15. > :05:21.would end up going back to Afghanistan. On two or three
:05:21. > :05:27.occasions where I've had doubts, serious doubts about the whole
:05:27. > :05:33.thing, he's literally begged me to go on Skype to talk to him and see
:05:33. > :05:37.him on Skype. Anna's story sounds fishy to me and to her family. She
:05:37. > :05:42.hasn't spoken to them since hero manse began with Captain Ingram
:05:42. > :05:45.Roberts. I need to find out more about online scams, so I've come to
:05:45. > :05:50.meet Colin Woodcock from the Serious Organised Crime Agency. Do
:05:50. > :05:54.they target a particular type of person They will target people who
:05:54. > :05:59.show on their site some sort of vulnerability. So if you are
:05:59. > :06:03.recently widows or are a widower, because it is men and women who are
:06:03. > :06:07.affected here. Or if you are maybe elderly, or if you say you have
:06:07. > :06:11.just been through a divorce or you've been single for a long while,
:06:11. > :06:16.these are all vulnerable tis to a fraudster. So what about Captain
:06:16. > :06:22.Ingram Roberts? He says he loved Anna. He sent her flowers. He even
:06:22. > :06:27.says he is coming to visit. But is he the real deal? We'll be catching
:06:27. > :06:33.up with this story later on to find out if Captain Ingram Roberts is
:06:33. > :06:38.genuine or the scam artist that an ma and her family fear he might be.
:06:38. > :06:41.It doesn't look good. Now, you are taking to the stage with a classic
:06:41. > :06:44.called Doctor In The House. It's been a sitcom, a book, and a film.
:06:44. > :06:50.Are you feeling the pressure to make at this time best it's ever
:06:50. > :07:00.been on stage?. It was series of films, three or four. I think six
:07:00. > :07:04.actually: Dr At Sea, Dr In Trouble. It was done by Richard Gordon.
:07:04. > :07:10.What's really good, apart from having him there, because I'm not
:07:10. > :07:14.an actor. He is a legend, so even if I'm complete contact he's there.
:07:14. > :07:19.Safe hands, that's an understatement. Was it hard coming
:07:19. > :07:22.into rehearsals knowing that Robert was experienced? We had met before.
:07:22. > :07:28.I've known him a little bit over the years. But when he walked in,
:07:28. > :07:35.for me he was a legend. He's grown a beard as well. It is so rough
:07:35. > :07:39.when he kisses me. I have never heard such nonsense. He is in no
:07:39. > :07:43.danger of being a bit contact. He's brilliant. It is a privilege for me
:07:43. > :07:47.to work with Joe. We are having great fun. It is wonderful to
:07:47. > :07:52.witness this relationship blossoming. It is only a day old.
:07:52. > :08:01.What's really nice is Richard Gordon who is in his 90s now, wrote
:08:01. > :08:08.the original book and the play and he was there on Monday. And that's
:08:08. > :08:18.me there as well. I don't know who the scruffy bloke is next to him.
:08:18. > :08:29.
:08:29. > :08:33.The TV show was out in the 1960s And then it ties up like that.
:08:33. > :08:40.This patient came in with a sprained wrist. Thanks to your
:08:40. > :08:45.treatment he now has a dislocated shoulder, and is dying of asphyxia.
:08:45. > :08:49.Lovely stuff. What's plot of this? You've got loads of material you
:08:49. > :08:53.could have used. It is about a bunch of doctors in a house really.
:08:53. > :08:56.OK. And that's it. What's good about it is that it is fun, it is a
:08:56. > :09:03.funny show, a funny play but it is not about the story as such. It is
:09:03. > :09:08.more about the time. The time is set in 1957 which I think was a
:09:08. > :09:14.nicer time. There was no mobiles or technology, no Army bloke trying to
:09:14. > :09:18.get out and say, "Can I have seven grand ?" If you had a telephone it
:09:19. > :09:22.was in the hallway. You didn't have Twitter. People were nicer to each
:09:22. > :09:26.other and it reflects that, the niceness and the warmth of the show.
:09:26. > :09:32.It is about the relationships more than the story. It is a period
:09:32. > :09:36.piece. We've taken it all the way back to the 1950s. It also reflects
:09:36. > :09:41.the current economy, which is austerity. This isn't footage of
:09:41. > :09:47.you lot rehearsing. It looks like you are having a right laugh.
:09:47. > :09:55.don't think it does. We look miserable. But you start laughing
:09:55. > :10:01.there. I look good! And there was a bottle of gin behind you.
:10:01. > :10:06.haven't got a clue what's going on. I look like a proper actor. You've
:10:07. > :10:12.got your medical experience from Holby City and the comedy from The
:10:12. > :10:16.Detectives. It is coming together beautifully. Do you really know
:10:16. > :10:22.your medicine stuff? I've got a rash you can look at later.
:10:22. > :10:27.your voice is one of the defining things about you. You did stand-up
:10:27. > :10:37.didn't you, and you've written an autobiography. I'm writing at the
:10:37. > :10:37.
:10:37. > :10:46.moment, called, "Sniffed we the by the Queen." I said, "I'm minging"
:10:46. > :10:53.and she said, "What's minging" and she sniffed me and said, "You are a
:10:53. > :10:57.bit whiffy." What did you smell of at the time? I can't say. Your
:10:57. > :11:05.previous biography, we were thinking, have you ever had a part
:11:05. > :11:11.as a baddie? You said you are not a proper actor. I would like to be
:11:11. > :11:17.but it would be like Noddy with a headache if I was a baddie. This is
:11:17. > :11:27.seriously your lucky day. Is there a water pistol there? Will you do
:11:27. > :11:35.that scene from Taxi Driver, the Robert De Niro bit. Do I do the
:11:35. > :11:42.face? Think baddie. I can't see the autocue without my glasses!
:11:42. > :11:50.them back on. I look like Harry them back on. I look like Harry
:11:51. > :11:59.Potter's granddad! Look hard. Do I do it in my voice? Gore for it. Be
:11:59. > :12:09.hard. You talkingin to me? You talkin' to me? LAUGHTER Don't laugh.
:12:09. > :12:16.I'm hard. You talkin' to me? ain't finished yet, love. There's
:12:16. > :12:18.one more line. The autocue's gone! He's moved on. I'm going to drop
:12:18. > :12:25.kick you. The director is saying you didn't get the part
:12:25. > :12:31.unfortunately. We loved it. I'm starting to have
:12:31. > :12:35.doubts about Doctor In The House. doubts about Doctor In The House.
:12:35. > :12:41.It starts on 20th March. In Bromley. As a nation of animal lovers it is
:12:42. > :12:46.not unusual to see our pampered pets strutting their stuff with
:12:46. > :12:51.perfectly grouped fur. Thanks to Michael Douglas their owners and
:12:51. > :12:55.admirers are also going to look perfect.
:12:55. > :13:01.There's a lot of mogies in Britain and today I'm going to meet a few
:13:01. > :13:07.of the most pampered. I've come to Reading to the southern counties
:13:07. > :13:15.cat club show. I'm hoping to groom a few of the owners as well. Wish
:13:15. > :13:25.me luck. Some people go fishing. Some people
:13:25. > :13:28.
:13:28. > :13:34.go golfing. This is our hobby. What's she called? Mavis
:13:34. > :13:39.Flirtatious. What is a stud cat? is a young man who has a good time,
:13:39. > :13:46.hopefully. There's a thing about pets and their owners looking alike.
:13:46. > :13:50.He's nearly as handsome. I saw that one in Gremlins 2. Get water on it
:13:50. > :13:54.and it goes nuts. All the cat owners have gone,
:13:54. > :13:58.leaving these people in white coats here to get on with analysing the
:13:58. > :14:03.cats. Her feet are quite solid. This is Sarah and she's the
:14:03. > :14:06.President of the southern Counties Cat Club. What's the attraction
:14:06. > :14:11.with cats? They are so independent. Can't don't need people. I think
:14:11. > :14:16.that's why I'm not keen, because I want to be wanted. That makes it
:14:16. > :14:20.all the better when they decide they do like you, because it is on
:14:20. > :14:26.their terms. When you say to people you breed and show cats, I think
:14:26. > :14:30.they have this impression of elderly ladies smelling faintly of
:14:30. > :14:35.cat, with about 50 cats around the house eating out of tinned cans.
:14:35. > :14:45.That isn't what we are about. a look. Wow! Really good. You can
:14:45. > :14:47.
:14:47. > :14:57.I think I have seen Katie Price with one of these on. Alex Jones
:14:57. > :15:06.could do with one of these, I think. So, this is one of the judges here
:15:06. > :15:11.today, is that right? Yes. I have done this since I was 15, and I am
:15:11. > :15:19.30-odd a now. Some of them trained There to use a normal toilet.
:15:19. > :15:25.a look, do you like it? Yes, it is really good. There you go. Let's
:15:25. > :15:34.cut all of this off at the back. What about it, do you fancy a bit
:15:34. > :15:43.of a haircut? Are you a bit scaredy cat? Great, so this is a steward
:15:43. > :15:50.here, is that right? That's right. You assist the judges. Have you got
:15:50. > :15:55.a licence to use this equipment? Yes, I have. Is it not dangerous to
:15:55. > :16:02.have too many cats, can they not a gang up on you? Where is your
:16:02. > :16:08.husband? He's at home. He does like cats, but he has got a nickname,
:16:08. > :16:11.he's called cat man. I would be happy to have no pets at all, just
:16:12. > :16:21.live on my own with a massive TV and a massive bag of crisps. Take a
:16:22. > :16:22.
:16:22. > :16:28.look. Oh, wow! I really like that. Not a catastrophe after all.
:16:28. > :16:33.and I look like the cat's whiskers. This could put me out of business.
:16:33. > :16:41.This is your cat and it has won. How are you going to celebrate?
:16:41. > :16:47.think a drop of whisky. I came here today not liking cats, and I am
:16:47. > :16:52.leaving not liking cats, but I do however like their owners. I cannot
:16:52. > :17:02.believe that, how would you react to him saying that about you?
:17:02. > :17:02.
:17:02. > :17:09.That's charming, isn't it? He had bet not coming here. Anyway! Right,
:17:09. > :17:15.everybody at home, we are recruiting 1001 show viewers to run
:17:16. > :17:21.just one mile each to form a relay, all the way from Mull in Scotland
:17:21. > :17:27.to the Mall in London. We need people all the way down the route,
:17:27. > :17:30.and we are short in a few areas. Yes, everybody in Dumfries and
:17:30. > :17:34.Galloway, Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, this is your
:17:34. > :17:40.chance to shine, if you're near any of those locations on the map.
:17:40. > :17:44.Please, do not be the missing link. Go to the website to check out the
:17:44. > :17:52.details. You can also find information on other Sport Relief
:17:52. > :17:59.Mile events on there. Earlier on, Anita Rani Met Anna, a woman
:17:59. > :18:05.looking for love online. But, was the man she met actually a scam
:18:05. > :18:08.artist? I am helping to establish whether Anna's online love interest
:18:08. > :18:13.is in fact a conman. She has been in touch with him for two months,
:18:13. > :18:16.and so far she has parted with almost 7,000 in cash, which he
:18:16. > :18:22.claims he needs for medical treatment and for an early exit
:18:22. > :18:29.from the army. Yes, I believe I am in love with him, and I believe
:18:29. > :18:33.he's in love with me. The One Show has been looking in to Captain
:18:33. > :18:39.Ingram Roberts, and I am just about to tell her what we have found. We
:18:39. > :18:42.have found some things out, we got in touch with the US Embassy, and
:18:42. > :18:52.according to their database, the name Captain Ingram Roberts does
:18:52. > :18:55.not exist. OK. They also told us that if a person who is part of the
:18:55. > :18:58.US military wants to leave the military, under no circumstances
:18:59. > :19:02.would they have to pay their way out, that just does not happen.
:19:02. > :19:12.Also, if they needed any medical attention, the military would cover
:19:12. > :19:27.
:19:27. > :19:37.I have not had a life for a month, just sitting there waiting for the
:19:37. > :19:40.
:19:41. > :19:50.phone to ring, I have had two weeks off work, and for what? And I feel
:19:50. > :19:56.such an idiot. Complete idiot. know, you must feel absolutely
:19:56. > :20:00.awful, but you're not alone, this is a big scam. This is not just you,
:20:00. > :20:07.but you did suspect it, didn't you? Deep down, you probably did not
:20:07. > :20:10.want to believe it. No, I was in denial, I suppose. This
:20:10. > :20:14.psychologist from Leicester University has interviewed many
:20:14. > :20:18.victims of online dating fraud. Anyone could be prone to this
:20:18. > :20:24.particular scam. You could be in a professional job, a lot of
:20:24. > :20:28.intelligent people fall for it. When Anna challenged the fraudster
:20:28. > :20:32.on the phone, he hung up. A few days later he got back in touch,
:20:32. > :20:38.claiming his feelings were genuine, and in no time at all, he was back
:20:38. > :20:42.asking for money, but this time, Anna refused. Sometimes, after
:20:42. > :20:46.people have found out they have been a victim of this crime, they
:20:46. > :20:50.actually become victimised again, in a second wave, and what might
:20:50. > :20:59.happen for instance is that this with a contacts the victim and says,
:20:59. > :21:04.yes, it was a scam, however, I have fallen in love with you. Anita Rani
:21:04. > :21:14.is still adjusting to the reality that her online romance was just a
:21:14. > :21:15.
:21:15. > :21:19.scam. -- Anna is just still adjusting. This cannot be allowed
:21:19. > :21:26.to continue. The reason I'm doing this is because I do not want
:21:26. > :21:34.anybody else, or any other woman, to go through this. It is one of
:21:34. > :21:38.the most painful, hurt faults and emotional times. And if you're
:21:38. > :21:45.vulnerable and susceptible to that, you will get drawn into it, believe
:21:45. > :21:50.you me, you will get drawn into it. Thank you for telling your story,
:21:50. > :21:53.Anna, it is an awful experience for anybody to go through. We should
:21:53. > :22:01.point out that the man featured in those photos could well be an
:22:01. > :22:06.innocent party as well. Dom has joined us tonight. You can always
:22:06. > :22:12.spot a scam, but what you make of this one? This one has been around
:22:12. > :22:15.for three of for years, there is an estimated 200,000 people who have
:22:16. > :22:21.been affected by this, but the problem is that it is a bit of
:22:21. > :22:24.harassing, so people do not tell their friends or family about it. -
:22:24. > :22:30.- it is a bit embarrassing. There are a lot of common denominators
:22:30. > :22:34.you have got to watch out for. People play on your emotions, so,
:22:34. > :22:41.somebody like Anna, recently widowed, she desperately needs to
:22:41. > :22:44.fall in love, and this person has picked up on that. They might be
:22:44. > :22:49.trying to many off you to help animals, or for health reasons,
:22:49. > :22:56.whatever, things like that. In this case, this guy has come forward and
:22:56. > :23:06.offered his love. She has actually had Skype phone calls with this guy,
:23:06. > :23:06.
:23:06. > :23:11.which is very unusual. She has seen him, on Skype. But she does say it
:23:11. > :23:17.was dark, so we do not exactly know. These people can be in Eastern
:23:17. > :23:20.Europe, Africa, all over the place. Quite often, the people will have
:23:20. > :23:24.bad English, and the e-mails they send you might have spelling
