0:00:05 > 0:00:07Today's our first day at London Fashion Week.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10We're here, we're getting ready, we've got a top team.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13They end up making this look OK!

0:00:16 > 0:00:18London Fashion Week is an amazing showcase

0:00:18 > 0:00:20for the best British designers.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23So, over the next few days, we're going to three different shows -

0:00:23 > 0:00:26SIBLING, Hunter and Giles.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29And we're going to show you what makes them so special.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32And we're going to get up close and personal

0:00:32 > 0:00:35with some of the actual pieces that are hot off the runway.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I think, growing up, I always wanted to wear designer clothes.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40I was always looking through magazines, saying,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42"I want that, I want that,", but I didn't have the money.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46I would find the high street version of, or a vintage version of.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49As I've grown up, and I'm working hard and earning more money,

0:00:49 > 0:00:53I can afford these high-end pieces.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57But I'm still a Scouser, and I'm born and bred to bargain hunt.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01So it does hurt me, spending a lot of money on clothes!

0:01:03 > 0:01:06I like to be quite savvy with pieces I'm buying.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09If I am going to buy, it will be something that's timeless,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11a wardrobe staple that you can wear forever.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15They do make you feel incredible.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19There is something about a high-end piece that does make you feel great.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22MUSIC: First Contact by Lab Of Music

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Yeah, it's just like anything goes in Fashion Week.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38But I imagine some people just dress up for the week,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41and then, next week, go back to wearing their normal clothes.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48We're en route to SIBLING.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52SIBLING is an amazing show, it's so exciting, it's one to watch.

0:01:52 > 0:01:57It's a tongue-in-cheek, vibrant, anything-goes kind of show.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58They're known for their knitwear.

0:01:58 > 0:02:03They started out with menswear and they wanted to make men

0:02:03 > 0:02:07feel like they had more options than the grandad knit.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09A few years ago, they started womenswear,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13and the show is always fantastic, it's one of my favourites.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Anything goes, any material.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19They use mohair, PVC, all kinds of wool.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23And they're really, really creative. And it's a special show to be at.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29Originally, SIBLING was a trio of designers,

0:02:29 > 0:02:34and, horrendously, Joe passed away a few months ago.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38And it was their last collection as a three.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41So it is going to be a bit of a bittersweet occasion today.

0:02:41 > 0:02:42A celebration of his work,

0:02:42 > 0:02:46but also I think there'll be a few teary eyes in the building today.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52- Hi! How are you? - Very well, thanks.- You OK?

0:03:09 > 0:03:13We're here, we're at the SIBLING show. It looks great.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Last year was all about '80s vibe,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Fun, girly, giant bows, think Madonna.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23And I can't wait to see what they've got in store for us today.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25# Do you recall, not long ago

0:03:25 > 0:03:27# We would walk on the sidewalk

0:03:27 > 0:03:30# Innocent, remember?

0:03:30 > 0:03:33# All we did was care for each other

0:03:33 > 0:03:35# But the night was warm

0:03:35 > 0:03:37# We were bold and young

0:03:37 > 0:03:40# All around the wind blows

0:03:40 > 0:03:42# We would only hold on to let go

0:03:42 > 0:03:45# Blow a kiss, fire a gun

0:03:45 > 0:03:47# We need someone to lean on

0:03:47 > 0:03:50# Blow a kiss, fire a gun

0:03:50 > 0:03:52# All we need is somebody to lean on

0:03:52 > 0:03:54# Blow a kiss, fire a gun

0:03:54 > 0:03:57# We need someone to lean on

0:03:57 > 0:03:59# Blow a kiss, fire a gun

0:03:59 > 0:04:01# All we need is somebody to lean on. #

0:04:05 > 0:04:07Oh, my God, it was amazing.

0:04:07 > 0:04:12Fantastic show. The mix of the PVC with the crochet,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15with the beaded wool - it was just incredible.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21One of the members of SIBLING passed away, very sadly.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23I think it was probably a very emotional

0:04:23 > 0:04:24show for a lot of people to see.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26It was great that it was very optimistic

0:04:26 > 0:04:28and it ended with a very happy collection.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31I think the thing about fashion is that the name will

0:04:31 > 0:04:34live on without him and it will be a testament to him.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41I'm really excited now, because I'm going to go backstage

0:04:41 > 0:04:44and get me hands on a piece of that gorgeousness.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52- Hot off the catwalk!- Here you go! - Let's have a look.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57- THEY GASP Oh, wow.- How gorgeous is that?

0:04:57 > 0:04:58Amazing.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02Let's see what they've given us.

0:05:02 > 0:05:07Ah, God, this is actually one of my favourite pieces out of the show.

0:05:07 > 0:05:13This beautiful, honeycombed crochet.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15Beautiful maxi dress.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Big thigh split,

0:05:17 > 0:05:23and it's just fabulous for over a bikini, summer party.

0:05:23 > 0:05:27I love it. The quality is just fantastic, and all this detail.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31It's not like a flimsy crochet, there's quite a chunkiness to it.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35It just feels so luxurious.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39And it definitely comes under the high-end category.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41Gorgeous.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43Can't wait to see what this feels like on.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47MUSIC: Die Young by Keha

0:06:15 > 0:06:16Let me think about high end. High end?

0:06:16 > 0:06:20I would say it's special, quality, lasting.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24Money, money, money, money, money.

0:06:25 > 0:06:29High end is those labels we all really, really aspire to.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33It's not about price, it's just about something that's incredibly

0:06:33 > 0:06:36luxurious and something that suits your needs and fits your life.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40Doesn't need to be expensive, it needs to be special and different.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Sometimes, you're paying for the most incredible dress.

0:06:42 > 0:06:46You know, it's an amazing dress that transcends mere dressdom.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49It's got to speak to the person who's looking at it.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51It's got to be sold at the right price.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54There's a lot more to it now than just writing down,

0:06:54 > 0:06:55"We are a high-end brand."

0:06:55 > 0:06:58MUSIC: Infinite Love Without Fulfilment by Grimes

0:07:03 > 0:07:07So Fashion Week this year is in Soho, which is great.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09But it's a pain, because you have to walk everywhere.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Especially in these shoes.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16So now we're off to Fashion East.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19It's a presentation created by a group of designers,

0:07:19 > 0:07:25and it's an amazing initiative that supports up-and-coming talent

0:07:25 > 0:07:27and showcases their collections.

0:07:27 > 0:07:31This is the perfect place to find out what it takes

0:07:31 > 0:07:33to become a high-end designer.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37Wouldn't it be well better to just sack this all off

0:07:37 > 0:07:39and just sit in there and eat cakes?

0:07:39 > 0:07:41SHE LAUGHS

0:07:44 > 0:07:45Pfft!

0:07:46 > 0:07:50And think it's just up here, I can see a crowd, so must be it.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20This is Lulu, she's the founder of Fashion East,

0:08:20 > 0:08:22and the godmother of fashion.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26- Godfather.- Godfather of fashion.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31I know you've established millions of designers through Fashion East,

0:08:31 > 0:08:37like some of our favourites, like Jonny Saunders and Henry Holland...

0:08:37 > 0:08:42- Roksanda.- Roksanda. What are you looking for?

0:08:42 > 0:08:46The thing about our designers is that they all have their very own,

0:08:46 > 0:08:49individual perspective. And we really encourage that.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52We never try to kind of...

0:08:52 > 0:08:55You know, tidy things up too much, because I think part of it is about

0:08:55 > 0:08:58they're learning what their brand is and what the signature is.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00And Fashion East is a place where you can experiment.

0:09:00 > 0:09:01And it is a big deal for them,

0:09:01 > 0:09:04and, hopefully, they'll go on to have really good businesses.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06- They've got to work really hard, it's tough.- Yeah.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08But, you know, that thing...

0:09:08 > 0:09:12If you create a desirable product and can sell it at the right price,

0:09:12 > 0:09:13that's it.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16MUSIC: Style by Taylor Swift

0:09:21 > 0:09:25I've got no time to go and get changed for the next show,

0:09:25 > 0:09:28so, public loo, all very glamorous.

0:09:28 > 0:09:29I'll be out in a sec.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34Daa-dah!

0:09:34 > 0:09:36And we're off to Hunter. Let's go.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Obviously, everyone knows Hunter as the wellies.

0:09:44 > 0:09:48It's English, heritage, very posh.

0:09:48 > 0:09:53But Hunter Original is their high-end catwalk range.

0:09:53 > 0:09:54And I'm loving it.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57It's really cool, like, this jacket, this neoprene,

0:09:57 > 0:10:02welly-ish jacket. It's cool. And I'm a huge fan of these welly boots.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04I think, having a husband who's 6' 7",

0:10:04 > 0:10:07nice walk in the park in the mud, doesn't matter,

0:10:07 > 0:10:11because you've got your heeled wellies on. It's great!

0:10:11 > 0:10:13I love them.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17The new creative director of Hunter is Alasdhair Willis,

0:10:17 > 0:10:20he's Stella McCartney's husband.

0:10:20 > 0:10:21It's the show to be at.

0:10:21 > 0:10:25It attracts the really high-end, fashiony stars.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29Like Anna Wintour... You know, we're going today...

0:10:29 > 0:10:32Yeah, it's one to watch.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35MUSIC: Power by Kanye West

0:10:48 > 0:10:52I suppose Hunter is at the high end of the kind of boots

0:10:52 > 0:10:53you wear down on the farm.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56But these days, they're not just worn in the country,

0:10:56 > 0:10:58they're worn in the town, that's the great difference

0:10:58 > 0:11:01that this new branding of Hunter has made.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03From the country to the city.

0:11:10 > 0:11:14Hunter is high end, because it's heritage, it's superhigh quality.

0:11:14 > 0:11:17It's something that the late Dowager,

0:11:17 > 0:11:19the Duchess of Devonshire, would wear,

0:11:19 > 0:11:22but also a cool, Pixie Geldof would wear to Glastonbury.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07I thought the show was incredible,

0:12:07 > 0:12:12I actually felt like I was in a festival. We were in this giant tent.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16And it was just amazing. Really original.

0:12:30 > 0:12:35There's no doubt, that, because Alasdhair is married to "a famous person",

0:12:35 > 0:12:37that this also makes a lot of difference.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39It's not just that we've all known him for a long time,

0:12:39 > 0:12:44but also that he's bought into the whole glossy magazine world

0:12:44 > 0:12:47in a way that perhaps he would not have been

0:12:47 > 0:12:48had he just arrived like that, cold.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51There's a whole aura built round Hunter,

0:12:51 > 0:12:53and that's what we're looking at.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06- Thank you.- Congratulations! - Thank you very much.- It was amazing.

0:13:06 > 0:13:09You know, everyone thinks of Hunter as an outdoorsy welly.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Did you want to turn it high end? Was that your...?

0:13:11 > 0:13:14Well, what I wanted to do was really...

0:13:14 > 0:13:17The brand always had a huge amount of potential.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20Everyone has a positive experience of Hunter.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23I just wanted to open that up

0:13:23 > 0:13:27and really realise the potential of what it had.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30So what is the definition of high end to you?

0:13:30 > 0:13:34It's always got to do with quality, really.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36It sounds pretty obvious and pretty boring, but I...

0:13:38 > 0:13:41Quality has to be there in everything you do.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43And that's something that, you know...

0:13:43 > 0:13:47Hunter's rubber boots, the original boots were £90.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50- For a rubber boot, that's quite an expensive product.- Yeah.

0:13:50 > 0:13:55But it's a very high-quality product and, everything we do,

0:13:55 > 0:13:59we have to make sure we meet and raise the bar even higher.

0:13:59 > 0:14:03So I always look for quality and I always look for detail.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05And, if possible, unexpected detail.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08Detail that's in there that doesn't necessarily have to be.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11- Like the little cap/hood thing that you've got going on?- Exactly.

0:14:11 > 0:14:16Yes, there's lots of little parts that are put into the pieces

0:14:16 > 0:14:19that don't necessarily have to be there.

0:14:19 > 0:14:21But it gives you a story,

0:14:21 > 0:14:24and it gives the customer a reason to buy as well.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27- So detail and quality. - Perfect, thank you.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30- And I hear you've got something for me?- Oh, yes, where is it?

0:14:30 > 0:14:31Excited about this!

0:14:31 > 0:14:33There you go, hopefully you can get many

0:14:33 > 0:14:36pleasurable hours at the festival out of those, Abbey.

0:14:36 > 0:14:38Thank you so much.

0:14:40 > 0:14:45Oh! We've got the gorgeous, powdery-coloured, tie-dye welly.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47Not your average welly.

0:14:47 > 0:14:51It's definitely different. Summery.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54I love it, I think it's cool.

0:14:54 > 0:14:58Oh, I love this, I remember this from the show.

0:14:58 > 0:15:01This beautiful, coloured,

0:15:01 > 0:15:04it's almost fairytale, the colours they've used.

0:15:04 > 0:15:05Look at the detail.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09All these ruched sleeves, the big strings,

0:15:09 > 0:15:12even the wire in the hood.

0:15:12 > 0:15:14As you see, I'm always in black,

0:15:14 > 0:15:18so this colour's maybe a bit wacky for me, but it looks great.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20And this piece is so hot off the catwalk,

0:15:20 > 0:15:24it's even got mud still from the show on it.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26I am excited to try this on.

0:15:26 > 0:15:29And hopefully it comes in black, so I can buy one.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34MUSIC: Die Young by Keha

0:16:23 > 0:16:25The final show that we're going to is Giles Deacon.

0:16:25 > 0:16:31He's a personal friend of mine. And I just love his shows.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35It's always such a big shock, he's constantly reinventing himself,

0:16:35 > 0:16:38so you have no idea what you're about to expect.

0:16:38 > 0:16:40For me, he dresses a woman perfectly.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42He's known for his corsetry,

0:16:42 > 0:16:46so much so, that I got him to make my wedding dress.

0:16:46 > 0:16:51And I just can't wait to see what he's got in store for us today.

0:16:51 > 0:16:55This show's the epitome of high-end. Absolutely gorgeous.

0:16:55 > 0:17:00He has the best models, he has the best production on the show.

0:17:00 > 0:17:04And it's just the perfect way to finish our little film.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08MUSIC: Get Innocuous! by LCD Soundsystem

0:17:26 > 0:17:30He's a wonderful designer, because he's all about the glamour.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33He really understands luxury, he understands the luxury world.

0:17:33 > 0:17:37He understands that kind of woman, and there's a drama to it.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41He, again, is something that's really very London,

0:17:41 > 0:17:44in that it's creative and whimsical and wild.

0:17:44 > 0:17:45And not afraid.

0:17:45 > 0:17:48It's unabashed, I would say, is a good word for Giles.

0:17:50 > 0:17:55This is an incredible venue. It's King Charles I's banqueting house.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58And I wouldn't expect anything less from Giles. Amazing!

0:17:58 > 0:18:00Ooh, got to go in!

0:18:02 > 0:18:05# There will be times

0:18:05 > 0:18:11# The ground becomes your rest

0:18:14 > 0:18:19# And as you grow

0:18:19 > 0:18:25# You'll strike your mother's breast

0:18:42 > 0:18:44The really interesting thing with Giles' show

0:18:44 > 0:18:47is that it's quite unlike anything else you see in London.

0:18:47 > 0:18:52What Giles does is really kind of borderline couture, and it's

0:18:52 > 0:18:55really focusing on that sense of occasion and pomp and circumstance.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02When you're buying a piece of high fashion,

0:19:02 > 0:19:06it's about a story, it's about buying a stake in a story.

0:19:06 > 0:19:09Sometimes, with shows like Giles', I think the clothes are almost

0:19:09 > 0:19:12kind of a memento of the event that you've been to.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15It's kind of like a wish-you-were-here postcard.

0:19:26 > 0:19:31That was just the most incredible show. I had goosebumps throughout.

0:19:31 > 0:19:32It was so spooky and eerie.

0:19:32 > 0:19:39And the dresses, the prints he used, the detail was just incredible.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13- Nice to meet you! - Yeah, what's your name?

0:20:13 > 0:20:15- I'm going to ask you one question. - What's that, darling?

0:20:15 > 0:20:18- I want to know what the word high end means to you?- High end?

0:20:18 > 0:20:21- And how would you define it? - Oh, my God.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24- A polite way of describing high end? - Yes.- Yeah.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28- Or your way. - In the relation to clothes?- Yeah.

0:20:28 > 0:20:30- Not prostitutes.- Oh, OK.

0:20:30 > 0:20:32It's good to know these sort of things.

0:20:32 > 0:20:39Well, for me, high end is something that invokes a complete

0:20:39 > 0:20:43world of technique and artistry.

0:20:43 > 0:20:47And something very creative, something unique.

0:20:47 > 0:20:49Something you certainly can't get anywhere else.

0:20:49 > 0:20:51Something's that just very, very special.

0:20:51 > 0:20:54So, basically your entire collection?

0:20:54 > 0:20:56Insane, that show. Absolutely...

0:20:56 > 0:20:59I felt like I was in a magical, spooky world.

0:20:59 > 0:21:02- It was just fab.- We always like to try and invoke that.

0:21:02 > 0:21:05I think, with the last two seasons, with this one and the one before,

0:21:05 > 0:21:10we've really hit on a good flow, really. It just really works.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13It's what we do very well.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15I had a really good time doing this collection,

0:21:15 > 0:21:19the set and the venue, everything just all worked fantastically.

0:21:19 > 0:21:22Some seasons, it just goes like that. And this one just did.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25I think you could feel that out there.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29So, is it OK if I have a little play upstairs and a little try-on?

0:21:29 > 0:21:31There's only one thing, you've got to try on the Andy Pandy pyjamas.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34- OK. I love them.- Brilliant. - Perfect.- Good for you.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36OK, I'll see you later!

0:21:47 > 0:21:50You know, I think as soon as you put on a Giles dress,

0:21:50 > 0:21:52you instantly feel amazing.

0:21:52 > 0:21:57It's so glamorous, girly, sexy, and it feels amazing.

0:22:16 > 0:22:17It's been an amazing Fashion Week.

0:22:17 > 0:22:20We've been to three unbelievable

0:22:20 > 0:22:24but all very, very different fashion shows.

0:22:24 > 0:22:26SIBLING, Hunter and Giles.

0:22:34 > 0:22:36I've realised high end is a term that can mean

0:22:36 > 0:22:38loads of different things.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41From very expensive, to loads of detail,

0:22:41 > 0:22:44intricate fabrics, luxury fabrics.

0:22:44 > 0:22:48Something created by these amazing geniuses of design.

0:22:48 > 0:22:52But, for me, it's entering in that magical world where

0:22:52 > 0:22:55everything's way more exciting than everyday life.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58But now, for me, it's party time. So see you later!
