0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hi, I'm Rory Reid, and welcome to Extra Gear, the show with a triple-A

0:00:04 > 0:00:06backstage pass to all things Top Gear.

0:00:06 > 0:00:10Tonight, Extra Gear gets an exclusive invite to a secret stash

0:00:10 > 0:00:12of cars in Japan.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15I have been waiting to do this all day.

0:00:16 > 0:00:20Harris takes a Nissan Nismo 370Z out for a spin.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22Through the follow-through. Breathe in.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26And I'll be joined on the sofa

0:00:26 > 0:00:29by gamer-turned-racer Jann Mardenborough

0:00:29 > 0:00:30and comedian Matt Richardson.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33That's how we roll. This is Extra Gear.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58Let's get our guests out. First up is a man who was so good on the

0:00:58 > 0:01:02PlayStation that Nissan gave him a job as a real racing driver.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04It's Jann Mardenborough.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09- All right?- All right? - Take a seat.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12And a man who knows all about drive-time, it's Matt Richardson.

0:01:19 > 0:01:20So, Jann, thanks for joining us.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23You've flown in all the way from Japan to be here, right?

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Yeah, I got in yesterday, three o'clock.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29- Wow.- So, a bit tired.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Bags under the eyes. But make-up solved that for me.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35But you hold the record now for the person who has flown the longest to

0:01:35 > 0:01:36be on Extra Gear, so congratulations.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39- Sweet.- Matt, have you been to Japan?

0:01:39 > 0:01:43I've never been to Japan and I came from Zone 3, so, it's...

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Never been inclined to visit?

0:01:44 > 0:01:47I don't speak Japanese so I don't think my comedy would go down

0:01:47 > 0:01:48that well there. And, you know,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51I'm not a racing driver, so I don't get to be as rock and roll.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Jann, you actually race in Japan.

0:01:53 > 0:01:58Your path into motorsport wasn't exactly traditional, was it?

0:01:58 > 0:02:01I started to get into motorsport through gaming.

0:02:01 > 0:02:06So, I won a competition back in 2011 called GT Academy.

0:02:06 > 0:02:11So, they find the fastest people on the racing game Gran Turismo,

0:02:11 > 0:02:16the main prize is a professional drive in Dubai, and Nissan said,

0:02:16 > 0:02:20"OK, yeah, you did well, we'll give you a contract for 2013."

0:02:20 > 0:02:24And then it's just kind of like carried on since then.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26- So...- Yeah, it's an amazing story but I want to know

0:02:26 > 0:02:28- about the process.- To qualify,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31I was in my room a minimum six hours a day, every day.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33I was when I was a teenager as well, but not playing games.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Other reasons.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39So, you went to Brands Hatch and then Silverstone.

0:02:39 > 0:02:44You won the big final race of GT Academy and you're on the big podium

0:02:44 > 0:02:47step at Silverstone, you've got Johnny Herbert,

0:02:47 > 0:02:48you've got Eddie Irvine with you.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Yeah. He announced that I was the champion but his accent,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54he's from Ireland, and it's so strong and he talks so fast.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56He said, "Not only Jann's the winner of the race,

0:02:56 > 0:03:00"but winner of GT Academy." And then, like, I couldn't understand what he was on about.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03- You were like, "Eh, what?"- And then there was champagne from the

0:03:03 > 0:03:06competitors, from, like, second and third were spraying at me and I

0:03:06 > 0:03:07was like, "Oh, I won."

0:03:07 > 0:03:10We actually have a clip of you telling your mum that you've won.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12So, let's take a look at that.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Hello. Yeah, I've kind of won GT Academy.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32All of those hours in your bedroom finally paid off and now you compete

0:03:32 > 0:03:34in Super GT 500.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37We'll come back and we'll talk a bit more about your racing in a minute.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40But now we're going to head to Japan in search of a 1960s icon.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48This is Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53A sleepy town about 25 miles west of Tokyo.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58Home to Camp Zama military base...

0:04:00 > 0:04:02..and Nissan's operations centre.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08It's safe to say that Zama is not a fixture on Japan's tourist trail.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13But there is more to Zama than initially meets the eye.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17Here, behind tight security,

0:04:17 > 0:04:20is one of the most comprehensive heritage collections in the world.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26Nissan's DNA Garage is not open to the public.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31You have to be invited.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Luckily, we were.

0:04:47 > 0:04:52The secret stash includes cars that date back to the company's inception

0:04:52 > 0:04:53in 1933.

0:04:55 > 0:05:00Cars like Nissan's first electric vehicle, the Tama,

0:05:00 > 0:05:03and more magical Nismo machinery than can ever be imagined.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12But, as impressive as all of this is, I'm here for something specific.

0:05:12 > 0:05:16You might remember the Nissan 240Z, the grandfather of all Z-cars.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20Here in Japan, it's known as the Fairlady Z.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24It was built in 1969 as a rival for the Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro,

0:05:24 > 0:05:27and indeed, the Jaguar E-Type.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31And inside this factory, there lives and ultra-rare, high-performance

0:05:31 > 0:05:35version known as the Fairlady Z432.

0:05:39 > 0:05:40This is it.

0:05:46 > 0:05:51They only ever made 420 of these and they only ever sold them here in

0:05:51 > 0:05:57Japan. The Z432 used the same engine that you found in the

0:05:57 > 0:06:02Skyline 2000 GT-R, a two-litre, six-cylinder S20 engine.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07Now, that was like taking a Porsche 911 engine and stuffing it into a

0:06:07 > 0:06:11Porsche Boxster. The standard Fairlady Z was no slouch,

0:06:11 > 0:06:14but in this, Nissan created something truly special -

0:06:14 > 0:06:17a Z-car with the heart of a GT-R.

0:06:25 > 0:06:31If the Z432 was rare in 1969, it has since become a bit of a unicorn.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37There are only around 100 rumoured to be in existence...

0:06:40 > 0:06:44..with many in a condition most consider beyond salvage.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51There is one man who has dedicated his career to hunting down the

0:06:51 > 0:06:55mythical beast. A man who has become a bit of a unicorn himself -

0:06:55 > 0:06:59one of only two people to still restore these cars by hand.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04It's here that collectors of these rare Nissans go to bring their

0:07:04 > 0:07:06Fairladys back to life.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09And I've come to meet Tadashi Ando,

0:07:09 > 0:07:14the man who has dedicated 30 years of his life to preserving so many

0:07:14 > 0:07:18432s, to find out what makes this car so special.

0:08:03 > 0:08:07Why is it so important to you that these cars are restored properly?

0:08:38 > 0:08:40I know they're incredibly rare

0:08:40 > 0:08:42but do you reckon maybe I could have a go in one?

0:08:42 > 0:08:44- Yes.- Yeah?

0:08:47 > 0:08:51I have been waiting to do this all day.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01The first thing that hits you is that sound.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05The noise from that straight six just resonates around the cabin,

0:09:05 > 0:09:08forcing its way out through those

0:09:08 > 0:09:11twin vertically-mounted pipes at the rear.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13It sounds fantastic.

0:09:14 > 0:09:19The basic 240Z came with a two-litre engine that made about 130

0:09:19 > 0:09:24horsepower. The GT-R engine in this, the S20, makes 160.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28That doesn't sound like an awful lot but the car only weighs 1,000kg,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31so it does shift.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34You've got to remember that in the late '60s, early '70s,

0:09:34 > 0:09:36this was cutting-edge performance.

0:09:36 > 0:09:40And even by today's standards, I mean, it's still fun.

0:09:40 > 0:09:41Trust me.

0:09:41 > 0:09:47Peak power comes in at 7000rpm, so it does pay to wring it out.

0:09:47 > 0:09:48Be a bit of a hooligan.

0:09:52 > 0:09:54Oh, yes.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02Growing up, so many young men and women kind of fantasised about

0:10:02 > 0:10:06owning an old Mustang, or maybe a Jaguar E-Type,

0:10:06 > 0:10:07a Corvette in my case,

0:10:07 > 0:10:13and probably dismissed the 240Z as a sports car that they aspired to own.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15And maybe I'm a little bit guilty of that myself,

0:10:15 > 0:10:21but here I am in Japan driving it for myself,

0:10:21 > 0:10:22and I feel a connection to it.

0:10:22 > 0:10:26I feel like I should have paid more attention to this thing,

0:10:26 > 0:10:27especially in this form.

0:10:29 > 0:10:33How would I sum this up? I mean, I'm kind of at a loss for words.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37I can describe it for you, but it doesn't quite explain how it feels.

0:10:37 > 0:10:41And the best way I can describe it to you is that it's special.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45That's what it is - the 432 is special.

0:10:56 > 0:10:57It's a really special car.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59Amazing thing. You've been to Zama, right?

0:10:59 > 0:11:02- Yeah, quite a few times. - Have you driven anything there?

0:11:03 > 0:11:07Well, yeah, at Nismo Festival they have a load of the old race cars.

0:11:07 > 0:11:11They take them out from Zama and bring them to the track,

0:11:11 > 0:11:13so I've raced quite a few of the race cars.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15Tell us about your Super GT car.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18So, the car is a Nissan GT-R.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21- But the only thing that's...- We've got a picture of it right here.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25Yeah. So, the only thing that's the same as the road car and the

0:11:25 > 0:11:29race car is the roof-line and the rear lights.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Everything else is completely custom -

0:11:31 > 0:11:35different engine, four-cylinder, two-litre 600...

0:11:35 > 0:11:38They don't actually tell us the numbers of the engine but it's

0:11:38 > 0:11:40probably between 650 and 700 horsepower.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43But this is serious racing, though. There are big names in this series.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47Yeah, man. It's, like, this championship is properly cool.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51The cars are cool, the championship is run very well and we have drivers,

0:11:51 > 0:11:56ex-F1 drivers - Jenson Button's doing it this year with Honda,

0:11:56 > 0:11:59Kamui Kobayashi is racing for Lexus.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02- There's another one...- Heikki Kovalainen.- Kovalainen for

0:12:02 > 0:12:04- Lexus as well.- Have you come up against them already?

0:12:04 > 0:12:09Yeah. So, I've raced against all of them actually last year.

0:12:09 > 0:12:13I think it was at Fuji and I was sort of battling with Kovalainen,

0:12:13 > 0:12:15and it's like this guy was a McLaren driver.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18You know, like, this is cool.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21Well, you might not remember, but I actually raced against you

0:12:21 > 0:12:23at Le Mans when you were doing GT Academy.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26- You didn't know who I was, but I knew who YOU were.- Yeah.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29And we were in some go-karts and I thought... I saw you whizz by me,

0:12:29 > 0:12:33and I thought, "I'm not letting him get away, I'm going to hang onto the back of him."

0:12:33 > 0:12:35This guy disappeared on me.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37Unbelievable. Speaking of dream cars, though,

0:12:37 > 0:12:38what do you aspire to own?

0:12:38 > 0:12:42So, I'd quite like, I mean, an Aston Martin would be the dream.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44There's someone on my street that's got a really nice one.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46And I always wanted a really nice black one.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49Or, I quite like a Porsche Cayenne.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51No, no, I said DREAM car.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Yeah, Porsche Cayenne, I think they're really cool.

0:12:53 > 0:12:54So, tell me about your car history.

0:12:54 > 0:13:00- What have you owned?- I started out, I had a Peugeot 106 1.2 litre.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03Ladies. And then I had a much sexier car.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06I went for the Fiat Grande Punto.

0:13:06 > 0:13:09LAUGHTER The Grande Punto?

0:13:09 > 0:13:12The Grande Pun... The Grande's important.

0:13:12 > 0:13:17And then... I've got a Mercedes E250 now.

0:13:17 > 0:13:21So it was like not that good, not that good, and then OK.

0:13:21 > 0:13:22Yeah, and that's it.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24That's my car there.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27- Where did you get that from? - I bought it off my dad.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31Because I decided a 56-year-old man shouldn't be driving a white

0:13:31 > 0:13:33Mercedes, because that is a midlife crisis.

0:13:35 > 0:13:36It's nice, I like it. It's good.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39You and Jann actually have something in common, don't you?

0:13:39 > 0:13:42- You're into your gaming as well. - I'm into my gaming, yeah.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44I'm not so much into car gaming.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48I used to play for hours a day - Flight Simulator.

0:13:48 > 0:13:52What Flight Simulator is - you're thinking, "That's exciting, fighter jets, things like that."

0:13:52 > 0:13:54Commercial aviation.

0:13:54 > 0:13:58My dream job was a pilot so I used to play Flight Simulator and I have

0:13:58 > 0:14:00like a proper yoke, like, you know, a flight...

0:14:00 > 0:14:04..a flying yoke and the pedals and everything attached to my desk.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06Not any more because I've just moved in with my girlfriend and she

0:14:06 > 0:14:08threw it out.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11You should tell her the Jann Mardenborough story -

0:14:11 > 0:14:12you plug away on your console...

0:14:12 > 0:14:15Yeah, but I'd be like, "One day I'll be a real pilot." I don't think BA

0:14:15 > 0:14:20go, "Hey, guys, who's playing Flight Simulator? Let's get them to be a pilot now."

0:14:20 > 0:14:24But I used to do the flight from London to New York in a 747

0:14:24 > 0:14:26in real-time.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29What's that, eight hours?

0:14:29 > 0:14:31Eight hours, depending on what you set the weather to be.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36- Hang on...- Because, you know, it gets pretty boring if,

0:14:36 > 0:14:38halfway through, there's not a bit of turbulence.

0:14:38 > 0:14:41If there is turbulence, you could click the seat belt signs to go on.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43I used to put...

0:14:43 > 0:14:46Right, I used to put films on and I'd pretend that they were the films

0:14:46 > 0:14:49being shown on the in-flight entertainment system.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54And I lost my virginity as late as you'd imagine.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58But, yeah, yeah, that was my gaming history.

0:14:58 > 0:15:02- You're so much cooler than me. - That's pretty cool, you know. Like, having your own...- It's not cool.

0:15:02 > 0:15:06Thank you. Bless your heart for going, "That's very cool of you sitting in your room..."

0:15:06 > 0:15:09The eight-hour thing sitting on the plane watching your own...

0:15:09 > 0:15:11- That's...- You know what, but you set the weather,

0:15:11 > 0:15:13so it can make it a bit interesting.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16And then your foggy landing at JFK, there's nothing more thrilling.

0:15:18 > 0:15:22You say that but Jann actually had a go in a slightly different simulator

0:15:22 > 0:15:24- recently...- Yeah.- ..and it was a lot more thrilling.

0:15:24 > 0:15:25Let's take a look.

0:15:31 > 0:15:32No way.

0:15:34 > 0:15:36Oh!

0:16:28 > 0:16:32- A little bit cooler. A little bit cooler.- You're living this life -

0:16:32 > 0:16:35I did a gig to 25 people in Stoke two days ago,

0:16:35 > 0:16:37so who's having a better career?

0:16:39 > 0:16:41That's the coolest thing I've ever seen.

0:16:41 > 0:16:43- Thanks, man.- A bit cooler than flying imaginary planes.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46Yeah, I mean, he's in an actual helicopter driving a sports car.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49Were you worried about doing that, Jann, at all?

0:16:49 > 0:16:51- Shitting myself.- Why?

0:16:51 > 0:16:53If you crashed it, you don't die.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56- It's perfect.- That thing was fine, but the helicopter,

0:16:56 > 0:16:57being in a helicopter...

0:16:57 > 0:16:59- Did you not like?- Nah, man.

0:16:59 > 0:17:01It was mad. The guy was...

0:17:01 > 0:17:03The pilot was really good and, you know,

0:17:03 > 0:17:05he was calming me down and stuff.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08But I think when I was sort of focusing on the car,

0:17:08 > 0:17:11cos I'm trying to look at the car while the thing's doing these mad

0:17:11 > 0:17:14turns and stuff, and it has like a glass floor.

0:17:14 > 0:17:18- Yeah.- But sometimes he would have to cut the track and the car's like

0:17:18 > 0:17:21here, and I can't see anything, I can't even see the car,

0:17:21 > 0:17:23I'm meant to be controlling it, I can't see anything.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25I've no sympathy.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27You have the coolest life I've ever known.

0:17:27 > 0:17:28Absolutely.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30Well, earlier on, Matt,

0:17:30 > 0:17:33Jann and myself went head-to-head around Suzuka in our very own

0:17:33 > 0:17:36GT Academy. Let's take a look.

0:17:38 > 0:17:39I can't mess this up.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43I've gone in too deep.

0:17:44 > 0:17:45Perfect start.

0:17:50 > 0:17:52Stressful.

0:17:53 > 0:17:54Oh, yes.

0:17:57 > 0:17:58Whoa!

0:17:58 > 0:18:00Finish.

0:18:00 > 0:18:02And we're off.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04Oh! Straight into a wall.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06That did not go well. Dab of brakes.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Dab of opposite lock.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Dab of dirt.

0:18:11 > 0:18:12That's gone wrong.

0:18:12 > 0:18:14That's gone wrong. Oh!

0:18:16 > 0:18:18I meant that. Couple of problems here -

0:18:18 > 0:18:21I don't know this track, I never play this game...

0:18:23 > 0:18:24..and I'm rubbish.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31Lovely. OK.

0:18:34 > 0:18:35I'm so bad at this.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37How have I put my...? I've put my hazard lights on.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44Right, now I'm in the swing of it, this is going to be good.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47Oh, yeah, of course, brilliant.

0:18:47 > 0:18:50I hope my insurance company aren't watching this.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55I mean, that was horrific.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59- Cheers. That was- BLEEP- pathetic.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05OK. All right, I have the lap times here.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08Who's your money on? Jann?

0:19:09 > 0:19:10I'm still driving it!

0:19:12 > 0:19:17OK, let's see. Jann, obviously you were the fastest by some margin.

0:19:18 > 0:19:21Your best lap was lap two, at 2:23.50.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26I did it in a 3:10.50.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30No, I don't even want to know.

0:19:30 > 0:19:33I mean, four hours and three seconds.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36It's not as bad as you think. You were only four seconds behind me.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38- Was I?- I mean, that's a lifetime in real life,

0:19:38 > 0:19:40- But in a game it's not too bad.- Yeah, yeah.

0:19:40 > 0:19:44Although your worst lap was a 3:47, which is...

0:19:44 > 0:19:46I've never been to Japan before. I just wanted to see the scenery.

0:19:46 > 0:19:51You were in this room! All right, congratulations, guys.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53The winner, Jann Mardenborough.

0:19:53 > 0:19:54Thank you.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00Now, we're off for another lap, but this time it's on British turf -

0:20:00 > 0:20:03Chris Harris hits the track in a Nissan 370Z.

0:20:09 > 0:20:13The car revs out to about 7,500, but beyond about 6,800,

0:20:13 > 0:20:17it's kind of had enough. It's a bit asthmatic, this engine.

0:20:17 > 0:20:21I mean, it offers about 35 horsepower more than a standard 370Z

0:20:21 > 0:20:25but it doesn't feel dramatically faster if I'm being honest with you.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28The main thing about the Nismo package is the handling,

0:20:28 > 0:20:32so we've got better brakes, we've got better dampers, stiffer springs.

0:20:32 > 0:20:34Everything's a bit different, a bit racier.

0:20:34 > 0:20:35And through here...

0:20:36 > 0:20:38..it feels great fun.

0:20:40 > 0:20:44Power, 344, torque, 274,

0:20:44 > 0:20:47top speed, 155, 0-62,

0:20:47 > 0:20:49five and a bit seconds.

0:20:49 > 0:20:53I mean, those are quite good numbers for back in the day, but these days,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56you know, everything's got a bit stronger and a bit punchier.

0:20:56 > 0:21:02So, I have to say, it doesn't feel that fast any more.

0:21:02 > 0:21:04It's a nicely-balanced car.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06It's quite heavy too -

0:21:06 > 0:21:08it's nearly 1.5 tonnes.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10What's it like through here if we give it a flick?

0:21:10 > 0:21:13A lot of understeer. A lot of safety understeer.

0:21:15 > 0:21:16Through the Follow Through.

0:21:16 > 0:21:17Breathe in!

0:21:20 > 0:21:22I do like this track.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Braking. Braking's pretty good, but again there's a little bit

0:21:25 > 0:21:27of squidge in the end of the pedal.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29Everything feels like it's sort of rubber-bushed

0:21:29 > 0:21:32and a little bit indirect on the car.

0:21:32 > 0:21:35But the Z-cars, yeah, they need some more concentration,

0:21:35 > 0:21:36some more effort.

0:21:38 > 0:21:39Over the line.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46Great lap, as always.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48I mean, Chris, he was kind of on the fence with it.

0:21:48 > 0:21:50He was saying not enough power, too much understeer.

0:21:50 > 0:21:52You actually have one of these cars, though, don't you?

0:21:52 > 0:21:55Yeah, it kind of hurt a little bit, some of the stuff he was saying.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57Do you disagree?

0:21:57 > 0:22:01There's some bits I do agree, I do agree that it's, you know, it is,

0:22:01 > 0:22:04it is getting on. It's quite an old car.

0:22:04 > 0:22:08But I have one and I do like the fact that it does feel kind of

0:22:08 > 0:22:14old school. Like, it's heavy steering, the manual gearbox,

0:22:14 > 0:22:17you have to be quite precise on it, the clutch is quite heavy.

0:22:17 > 0:22:18Yeah.

0:22:18 > 0:22:24When I drive it, it's fun, and on wet roundabouts, it's mint.

0:22:24 > 0:22:28Yeah. Matt, you're no stranger to Dunsfold. I hear you've actually visited the track.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32I've done, you know, where you pay to go and drive supercars

0:22:32 > 0:22:35for the day. So, we paid and drove an Aston Martin DB9

0:22:35 > 0:22:38and a Ferrari Spider,

0:22:38 > 0:22:41which was great. I promised my dad when I started doing comedy,

0:22:41 > 0:22:45I was like, "When I'm famous, I'm going to buy you an Aston Martin."

0:22:45 > 0:22:47And then last year I reassessed where my career was and I went,

0:22:47 > 0:22:49"How about we do a lap in an Aston Martin?"

0:22:51 > 0:22:54But, yeah, I have driven that track and it's a nice track.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56The lady who was in the car with me who was, like,

0:22:56 > 0:22:57the professional driver,

0:22:57 > 0:23:01she then took me round for a spin and I screamed because she was

0:23:01 > 0:23:04really fast. Whereas I was driving very responsibly.

0:23:04 > 0:23:06And on that note, it's time to wrap this up.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10Thank you to our guests, Jann Mardenborough and Matt Richardson.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12Round of applause, please.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16I'll be back next week for more Extra Gear.

0:23:16 > 0:23:17See you then. Goodnight.
