0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hi, I'm Rory Reid and welcome to Extra Gear -

0:00:04 > 0:00:07each week serving up Top Gear exclusives as only Extra Gear can.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11Tonight, we go behind the scenes of my Kia Stinger film...

0:00:11 > 0:00:14I'm in a Kia and quite enjoying it!

0:00:16 > 0:00:18..I draw on my limited engineering skills

0:00:18 > 0:00:20to create Kia's other rear-wheel drive car.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24Yeah, I know what you're thinking - this guy's a genius!

0:00:24 > 0:00:27Chris takes the race-prepped Citroen 2CV from tonight's Top Gear

0:00:27 > 0:00:29around Dunsfold.

0:00:29 > 0:00:3345 horsepower in a 2CV, I mean, that's an enormous amount of power.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39And I'll be joined by two-time British touring car champion

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Colin Turkington and comedian Brennan Reece.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Oh, it's a good 'un. This is Extra Gear.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09OK, let's get our guests out.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12First up is Team BMW driver Colin Turkington!

0:01:16 > 0:01:17Take a seat.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21And actor, comedian and viral online sensation, Brennan Reece!

0:01:29 > 0:01:32All right, Colin, I want to start with you.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33You race for Team BMW?

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Yeah, one of the best jobs in the world.

0:01:35 > 0:01:40I race in the British Touring Car Championship in a BMW M125i.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42I've driven the road car.

0:01:42 > 0:01:43What's your race car like?

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Nothing like the road car at all!

0:01:46 > 0:01:48This is a thoroughbred racer.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52It's a six-speed sequential gear box, two-litre turbo-charged,

0:01:52 > 0:01:57about 370 brake horsepower, so it's a proper bit of kit.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00You've won not one but two championships,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03almost made it a hat-trick, but it didn't quite come off.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06- What happened?- Nearly got the Triple Crown this year.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09It went right down to the final race,

0:02:09 > 0:02:14round 30 of 30, and unfortunately I got knocked off in the end.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18That's part and parcel of touring cars but I've got the hunger to come

0:02:18 > 0:02:21back and hopefully get that third championships.

0:02:21 > 0:02:26I read on the Team BMW website that apparently you're a rear-wheel drive

0:02:26 > 0:02:28specialist. What does that actually mean?

0:02:28 > 0:02:31- You're a bit of a hooligan?- I think those guys are a bit biased, really.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37You've got to be comfortable with the car sliding and moving about, so

0:02:37 > 0:02:41that's what I'm used to, that's what I love, and that's why I think I've

0:02:41 > 0:02:42won the championships.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44All right, as you guys know, tonight on Top Gear,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46I tested the Kia Stinger,

0:02:46 > 0:02:50Kia's very first rear-wheel drive offering, and Extra Gear went

0:02:50 > 0:02:53behind-the-scenes to capture this momentous occasion.

0:02:58 > 0:02:59Morning, everyone.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Welcome to a very wet, very miserable Dunsfold.

0:03:03 > 0:03:08We have a 20-foot tall tower with every country in the world on there.

0:03:08 > 0:03:13And we're going to see where Korea comes in terms of fastest cars in

0:03:13 > 0:03:16the world. It's actually quite a busy day - we've got three cars

0:03:16 > 0:03:18but I'm going to try and get as many of the words out of the way

0:03:18 > 0:03:22as possible so we can have fun, get some nice, slidy, dynamic stuff.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29We had a long day ahead of us and it looked as though the notorious

0:03:29 > 0:03:33Dunsfold microclimate wasn't planning on doing us any favours.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37Classically, Dunsfold is a million seasons in one day.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40We started off with rain, constantly wiping those lenses down.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43I'm hoping for sun, get that lens flare going,

0:03:43 > 0:03:45but I think it's a tall order today.

0:03:45 > 0:03:46Looking a bit miserable.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51First job of the day, my introductory piece to camera.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54OK, here we go. Action, Rory.

0:03:54 > 0:03:55But the Stinger isn't old school.

0:03:57 > 0:03:58Sorry. It IS old school!

0:04:00 > 0:04:03Three, two, one, action!

0:04:03 > 0:04:05But the Stinger ISN'T a different take.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08- It's old school.- Good.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10Cool, mate. OK, cut.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12Right, enough of that.

0:04:12 > 0:04:13Now for the fun stuff.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27I'm in a Kia

0:04:27 > 0:04:29and quite enjoying it!

0:04:31 > 0:04:33OK, that went slightly wrong.

0:04:38 > 0:04:40It will do 168 miles...

0:04:40 > 0:04:41WHINING

0:04:43 > 0:04:45As soon as the Stinger hit high speeds,

0:04:45 > 0:04:48it began to sound as though it had developed what can only be described

0:04:48 > 0:04:51as, well, digestive issues.

0:04:51 > 0:04:54Was that you in there, Rory, or was that the engine?

0:04:54 > 0:04:59I think that was the sunroof flapping around at high speed.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04I think I need you going a bit more full beans.

0:05:04 > 0:05:09Obviously when that vibration kicks in, then slow a tickle.

0:05:09 > 0:05:10Let's just do one more, see what happens.

0:05:10 > 0:05:11And action!

0:05:14 > 0:05:15Oh, this is quick!

0:05:15 > 0:05:17WHINING

0:05:19 > 0:05:20Yeah, that's definitely the sunroof.

0:05:24 > 0:05:25RATTLING

0:05:25 > 0:05:27Oh, that's not right, is it?

0:05:29 > 0:05:32I've got something in the back rattling around in here.

0:05:33 > 0:05:34I think it's our equipment.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36Mini cams.

0:05:36 > 0:05:37With so much equipment,

0:05:37 > 0:05:41it's inevitable that things come loose from time to time,

0:05:41 > 0:05:43but with experts at hand to make a few adjustments,

0:05:43 > 0:05:45we were ready to roll again.

0:05:45 > 0:05:46Well, almost.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Why have you taken your shoe off?

0:05:50 > 0:05:52Why have I taken my shoe off?

0:05:52 > 0:05:53I'll let you in on a little secret, shall I?

0:05:55 > 0:05:58This is my secret drifting technique, to remove my shoe.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01I don't want to wear, like, driving shoes, racing shoes,

0:06:01 > 0:06:02because they look rubbish.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05I want to wear stuff I feel comfortable in.

0:06:05 > 0:06:07If you notice, the green is co-ordinated

0:06:07 > 0:06:10very tightly with the green of my jacket, OK?

0:06:10 > 0:06:13That's what I need to make me feel good, so I take my shoe off so I can

0:06:13 > 0:06:17feel the pedal so it enables me to judge how much power to apply.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20- It's how- I- do it!

0:06:22 > 0:06:26All right, dude, let's get you out there, and action!

0:06:32 > 0:06:34150!

0:06:35 > 0:06:38168mph!

0:06:38 > 0:06:39In a Kia!

0:06:45 > 0:06:48Finally, the Stinger could be crossed off the shot list,

0:06:48 > 0:06:51but with the morning's rain and technical issues,

0:06:51 > 0:06:53the crew were behind schedule.

0:06:53 > 0:06:54Thank you, guys, we've got to go.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57We were losing light and still had the league table and the Hyundai

0:06:57 > 0:07:00to film. And with the league table still in pieces...

0:07:06 > 0:07:10..it was a good job the i30 was up to the task.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Oh, yes, no problem!

0:07:13 > 0:07:14There's plenty of grip there.

0:07:14 > 0:07:16Turns in.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21Ha!

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Hyundai!

0:07:24 > 0:07:25Whoo!

0:07:26 > 0:07:28- BLEEP- me, that's fast.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33BLEEP.

0:07:33 > 0:07:35Needless to say,

0:07:35 > 0:07:39I was impressed, but there was one more vehicle for me

0:07:39 > 0:07:40to get my hands on.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49This is the Niftylift HR12N telescopic boom lift.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51It has a working height of 12 metres,

0:07:51 > 0:07:54fully proportional hydraulic controls

0:07:54 > 0:07:57and a top speed of almost 2.1mph.

0:08:02 > 0:08:04It was here to help us build this,

0:08:04 > 0:08:05our seven-metre-tall

0:08:05 > 0:08:08fastest-car-building country in the world

0:08:08 > 0:08:12leader board, the same one I was going to have to get to the top of.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15Now, I don't know if you've ever wondered about how to erect

0:08:15 > 0:08:18a Top Gear international league table of countries

0:08:18 > 0:08:19that make the fastest cars,

0:08:19 > 0:08:24or TGILTOCTMTFC, for short, but this is how you do it.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28You get a bunch of people who don't know what they're doing,

0:08:28 > 0:08:30gather around a cherry picker,

0:08:30 > 0:08:32and then use a lot of brute force and ignorance.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35Any minute now, that's going to happen.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38Any minute.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46The longer I looked, the taller it got.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48- You all right with heights?- Yeah.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50Well, we'll find out in a minute!

0:08:51 > 0:08:53Just step into that, like a... like a jacket.

0:08:56 > 0:08:57I've seen these in the shops.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58Don't say what shop!

0:09:03 > 0:09:04Help!

0:09:07 > 0:09:11When the time came for me to position South Korea on the board,

0:09:11 > 0:09:13there were merely minutes of daylight left.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15We're probably only going to get one take of this going up.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17It would have to be a one-take wonder.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20Highly precarious.

0:09:21 > 0:09:22We don't need Australia.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24You know what, we don't need Spain, either.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26South Korea, well done, you.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29In your face, Spain!

0:09:29 > 0:09:31You know where they don't take siestas?

0:09:33 > 0:09:34South Korea.

0:09:37 > 0:09:39I'm not doing that again.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42Thank you, guys. Well done.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45Thank you, Rory. Well done, everybody.

0:09:45 > 0:09:46It's a wrap. Come on.

0:09:48 > 0:09:49Right, how do I get down?

0:09:52 > 0:09:54I'm serious. How do I get down?

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Now, this is a pretty big deal for Kia

0:10:03 > 0:10:06and I was actually more impressed

0:10:06 > 0:10:10than I thought I would be, and these guys are claiming that the Stinger

0:10:10 > 0:10:13is going to compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes,

0:10:13 > 0:10:17and now that Hyundai are doing so well in rallying,

0:10:17 > 0:10:20I'm guessing we can expect to see more Korean manufacturers maybe

0:10:20 > 0:10:22taking part in touring car championships.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24It looks that way.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26You know, we had the Hyundai i30

0:10:26 > 0:10:31making its introduction to World Touring Cars last year. You know,

0:10:31 > 0:10:35global championship, and it actually won on its debut, so, you know,

0:10:35 > 0:10:37if the race car can win,

0:10:37 > 0:10:42I suppose it shows it highlights how good it can be as a road car and,

0:10:42 > 0:10:44yeah, I think we're going to see more and more of it.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47Would you buy it? A rear-wheel drive Kia, personally?

0:10:47 > 0:10:51Not yet, no. I do like my BMWs, so...

0:10:51 > 0:10:56We know BMW are paying you but you can talk about other manufacturers as well!

0:10:56 > 0:11:00You know, I'm also into my pick-ups as well.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03- Really?- Yeah. I like my pick-ups, you know,

0:11:03 > 0:11:07and since I passed my driving test, you know, obviously getting...

0:11:09 > 0:11:11You make that sound like it's just happened.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13Ever since I didn't have that provisional!

0:11:14 > 0:11:17It did take me a couple of goes, to be fair.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20But, yeah, you know, I wanted to be in something rear-wheel drive and,

0:11:20 > 0:11:24you know, a luxury sports car was well outside the range,

0:11:24 > 0:11:27so I thought, you know, I can get myself a cheap pick-up,

0:11:27 > 0:11:29it's rear-wheel drive, and have some fun.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32It is alarming that you just said it took you a couple

0:11:32 > 0:11:33of goes to pass your test.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35How many did it take?

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Well, twice.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41It took two goes, and, yeah, failed the first time for speeding, so...

0:11:41 > 0:11:43Oh, right. Ready-made racing driver!

0:11:43 > 0:11:46Yeah. As a racing driver, it's not a bad excuse.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50And Brennan, talk to me about your car history.

0:11:50 > 0:11:54Well, it took me six times to pass.

0:11:54 > 0:11:55Yeah!

0:11:57 > 0:12:00It was quite bad, cos I had the same test person every time,

0:12:00 > 0:12:02so I'd just turn up and he'd be like, "Oh, God!"

0:12:02 > 0:12:05There was one time, I took off a wing mirror,

0:12:05 > 0:12:07there was another time I backed into a white van man.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11He was livid. The worst time, there was a cow in the road,

0:12:11 > 0:12:13and I reversed and the guy said, "That is not how you do it.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15"That's not in the Highway Code," so...

0:12:15 > 0:12:18But, you did get a car eventually.

0:12:18 > 0:12:19- Yeah.- Was it you that bought the car, or...

0:12:19 > 0:12:23Well, my first car, my mum and dad bought me a...

0:12:23 > 0:12:26It was an old Renault Clio but they bought it for me

0:12:26 > 0:12:28passing my first test and I didn't,

0:12:28 > 0:12:31so it just sat on the drive for maybe about a year.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34500 quid, and then he sold it after my first fail,

0:12:34 > 0:12:36cos they just thought, "Oh, we'll just get him a bus pass!"

0:12:39 > 0:12:43Now, I think we can all agree that the Stinger has potential but I want

0:12:43 > 0:12:46to see more rear-wheel drive cars come out of Korea,

0:12:46 > 0:12:49specifically really affordable ones.

0:12:49 > 0:12:50Something like this, maybe.

0:12:54 > 0:12:55Meet the Kia Rio.

0:12:58 > 0:13:04Practical, affordable, and, the Stinger aside, like all Kias,

0:13:04 > 0:13:07supposedly front-wheel drive.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10And that's the problem, because the rear wheels are the fun wheels.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12Skidding wheels. But don't worry,

0:13:12 > 0:13:16because I have come up with a solution to this problem.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23It's only a front-wheel drive car if you're facing the front.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31Turn everything around, face backwards, and bang!

0:13:31 > 0:13:34Rear-wheel drive. Tell me this isn't genius.

0:13:34 > 0:13:37Right, let's see what this baby can do.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Into Chicago.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41I've got a good feeling about this.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44On the power. Yes!

0:13:44 > 0:13:45No!

0:13:47 > 0:13:48Ha-ha!

0:13:48 > 0:13:51Doing a doughnut. Oh, yeah.

0:13:51 > 0:13:56That's slightly out-of-control but good-ish.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58This is actually really tricky.

0:13:58 > 0:14:02It's fun, but it is unnecessarily tricky.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06It's actually quite terrifying, but...

0:14:06 > 0:14:09Rear-wheel drive? Yeah, I know what you're thinking -

0:14:09 > 0:14:12this guy's a genius. But you would be surprised at how

0:14:12 > 0:14:14little engineering this required.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24OK, I do see a slight drawback to my plans.

0:14:24 > 0:14:28My driving wheels are also my steering wheels.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34OK, no. I've spun, I've spun.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40Yeah. On balance, I'm not quite sure I've cracked this.

0:14:43 > 0:14:44Ah!

0:14:46 > 0:14:48OK, this was a bad idea.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51- Oh.- BLEEP.

0:14:53 > 0:14:57Yeah. A little bit of ghetto engineering there.

0:14:57 > 0:15:01It's actually surprisingly hard to make a rear-wheel drive car,

0:15:01 > 0:15:02as I found out. Right, now,

0:15:02 > 0:15:05I know that rear-wheel drive is considered the ultimate in handling

0:15:05 > 0:15:09performance, but I think we can agree that you can have a lot of fun

0:15:09 > 0:15:10in a front-wheel drive car as well,

0:15:10 > 0:15:13and you probably passed your test in a front-wheel drive car, right?

0:15:13 > 0:15:15- Yeah.- Eventually.- Yeah, eventually.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18I learned to drive in a Citroen Saxo.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20You know, that was my first car, so, you know,

0:15:20 > 0:15:23so long as it's got a handbrake in there, you can still have

0:15:23 > 0:15:25- a bit of fun.- Yeah. And, Brendan,

0:15:25 > 0:15:28we know that you're not quite a virgin to the Top Gear universe.

0:15:28 > 0:15:31I seem to remember you had a little bit of fun down at Dunsfold,

0:15:31 > 0:15:34with the Stig, and I think we should probably have a look at this, shouldn't we?

0:15:34 > 0:15:37- Yeah.- Let's take a look.

0:15:50 > 0:15:51Bye!

0:15:57 > 0:16:00BLEEP! BLEEP! BLEEP!

0:16:02 > 0:16:04BLEEP!

0:16:07 > 0:16:08Oh, my God!

0:16:08 > 0:16:10BLEEP!

0:16:20 > 0:16:21BLEEP!

0:16:22 > 0:16:25BLEEP, BLEEP.

0:16:29 > 0:16:30ENGINE DROWNS SPEECH

0:16:34 > 0:16:36Oh, my God...

0:16:51 > 0:16:52You're a dick.

0:16:57 > 0:16:59Brings back memories, doesn't it?

0:16:59 > 0:17:01Awful, awful memories.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03Yeah. That, of course, was the Ariel Nomad.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06I do love that car. I mean, 0-60 in about three seconds,

0:17:06 > 0:17:07it costs next to nothing.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10I think it's like 30-odd grand, but for that level of performance,

0:17:10 > 0:17:13it's incredible. You've got something like 235 horsepower

0:17:13 > 0:17:17and it only weighs about 670 kilos, so essentially,

0:17:17 > 0:17:21you've got Bugatti-rivalling performance in something that's

0:17:21 > 0:17:23super affordable, even though it is essentially

0:17:23 > 0:17:27just a piece of scaffolding with wheels. It's a hell of a thing.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31- Have you ever driven one?- I haven't driven the Nomad but I've been lucky

0:17:31 > 0:17:34enough to drive the Atom, and it's just raw power.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37You know, it's what a racing driver loves.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39Great car, great face.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Can we have another look?

0:17:43 > 0:17:47It's awful, isn't it? Looks like I've got a face-lift off Groupon.

0:17:47 > 0:17:48That is awful!

0:17:49 > 0:17:51This is a face that went viral.

0:17:51 > 0:17:55I think 3.2 million people actually tuned in to watch this.

0:17:55 > 0:17:57When did you realise that you were, kind of,

0:17:57 > 0:17:59in over your head on this?

0:17:59 > 0:18:04- At what point?- I think it was about three seconds in and then, like,

0:18:04 > 0:18:08I think he must have known that I was really scared, cos at one point,

0:18:08 > 0:18:10he put his hand on my hand. Like, he just put his hand...

0:18:11 > 0:18:14The first time Stig has ever shown any emotion.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18Nice. Now, our producer has actually had a look at some comments and it's

0:18:18 > 0:18:22fair to say that a lot of them aren't very nice!

0:18:22 > 0:18:25I want to read them out but I don't think I should be the person to do

0:18:25 > 0:18:27this, so I was wondering if you might do the honours.

0:18:27 > 0:18:31Yeah, well, there was loads, like, horrible ones.

0:18:31 > 0:18:34Some of my favourites. There's one that says,

0:18:34 > 0:18:35"He looks like an unfunny Steve Coogan!"

0:18:37 > 0:18:39- Very true.- Yeah, nailed that one.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43"This guy shit himself and it's not even that fast!"

0:18:45 > 0:18:47That just sounds like a guy who's been sat at home who's never been in

0:18:47 > 0:18:50a car as well, cos you can't tell how fast it is.

0:18:50 > 0:18:51That's my excuse. You can tell it's fast...

0:18:51 > 0:18:54- We can tell by your face. - ..but not that fast.

0:18:54 > 0:18:55We can tell by your face, trust me.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58"His face had the same colour as his white helmet after the lap.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00"I'm pretty sure his knickers didn't!"

0:19:01 > 0:19:04- Is that true? - I wasn't wearing any, so...

0:19:05 > 0:19:06My jeans were ruined.

0:19:06 > 0:19:11They went in the bin. And then my favourite/least favourite one is,

0:19:11 > 0:19:13"His teeth are so big, he looks like he could eat

0:19:13 > 0:19:15"an apple through a letterbox!"

0:19:18 > 0:19:20You know, I am sure that if you could see Lewis Hamilton

0:19:20 > 0:19:22racing his Formula 1 car with his

0:19:22 > 0:19:24helmet off, he would have exactly the same face.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29OK, it's that time again and, Brennan, just to warn you,

0:19:29 > 0:19:30we're heading back to Dunsfold,

0:19:30 > 0:19:33- so you might want to cover your eyes again.- Oh, God!- This week,

0:19:33 > 0:19:37Chris hits the track in a race-prepared Citroen 2CV.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42Oh, and she shoots off the line.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47What a thing! Whether it's a road car,

0:19:47 > 0:19:49a pick-up,

0:19:49 > 0:19:53an old one, a new one, or, like this one, a racing car,

0:19:53 > 0:19:56a 2CV is a thing of joy for me.

0:19:58 > 0:20:032CV racing began in the UK in about 1989, so a fair time ago.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08The way you turn your 2CV into a racing car is quite simple.

0:20:08 > 0:20:10You blueprint the engine to give you 45 horsepower.

0:20:10 > 0:20:1245 horsepower in a 2CV!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15I mean, that's an enormous amount of power.

0:20:15 > 0:20:17You add a metal roof and you basically

0:20:17 > 0:20:20lower the suspension till it's on

0:20:20 > 0:20:23the deck, add some camber, stiffen everything up,

0:20:23 > 0:20:25as much as you can, and away you go.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29In a 24-hour race, you'd do an engine change that takes about five

0:20:29 > 0:20:32minutes. Just take the engine out, and bolt another one in

0:20:32 > 0:20:34cos they wear out. How cool is that?

0:20:34 > 0:20:36Great-fun car to drive as well.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40Gear shift is...an umbrella handle.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43That bit there is sort of Citroen GS, I think, from the mid-'80s.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45Or maybe it's a CX, I can't quite tell.

0:20:45 > 0:20:51It has so little grip that on a slightly slippery day like this,

0:20:51 > 0:20:53it is difficult to describe how little grip it has.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58But if a relationship can be created between

0:20:58 > 0:21:00the lack of grip and the fun you have in a car,

0:21:00 > 0:21:02then that's a great thing.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05Look at me, I'm just smiling! It's lovely.

0:21:05 > 0:21:10And 45 horsepower in a 2CV is potent.

0:21:10 > 0:21:15Cos my car has 12.5 horsepower, so this has nearly four times

0:21:15 > 0:21:18that, so this is as powerful,

0:21:18 > 0:21:22compared to an early 2CV as a Bugatti Chiron is to a Civic Type R.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24This is the Bugatti Chiron of 2CVs.

0:21:24 > 0:21:26Let's see if it stops going into this corner.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30The brakes aren't bad, actually. Not too bad.

0:21:30 > 0:21:34I mean, she understeers a bit. Use all the circuit.

0:21:34 > 0:21:38Ooh, back comes round. It's quite lively at the rear.

0:21:38 > 0:21:40It is quite lively at the rear.

0:21:42 > 0:21:44And over the line.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51I think that's probably the slowest

0:21:51 > 0:21:53thing that Chris has ever taken around the track.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55Only 45 horsepower.

0:21:55 > 0:21:56It's basically a tin can, isn't it?

0:21:56 > 0:21:59I mean, although, it's probably more your speed.

0:21:59 > 0:22:00That's exactly what I want to be going around in.

0:22:00 > 0:22:03It looks like the Brum. Like, do you remember the car Brum, the TV show?

0:22:03 > 0:22:06It's looks like that. It's just gone into rehab. It looks so old.

0:22:08 > 0:22:10Colin, 2CV racing's a real thing.

0:22:10 > 0:22:12It is, it's a proper championship.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15You know, for me, it's like racing in slow motion.

0:22:15 > 0:22:20It reminds me of my first-ever race car, which was a one-litre Metro.

0:22:20 > 0:22:24And I can only describe that as racing a block of flats, you know,

0:22:24 > 0:22:27you turn into a corner and you just feel like you're going to topple

0:22:27 > 0:22:28over every time.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32But, you know, 40 brake horsepower, it's incredible fun.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34As long as everybody's doing the same speed,

0:22:34 > 0:22:35you can still have a good race.

0:22:35 > 0:22:39We've actually got a clip of 2CV racing from tonight's Top Gear.

0:22:39 > 0:22:41Let's take a look.

0:22:41 > 0:22:42Go!

0:22:46 > 0:22:47What a start.

0:22:47 > 0:22:48What a start!

0:22:50 > 0:22:51Get over to the right. Squeeze him!

0:22:53 > 0:22:54First into the first corner!

0:22:58 > 0:23:00Sorry, Chris! CRUNCHING

0:23:00 > 0:23:03- Oh! That didn't sound good.- No.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07Down the middle, down the middle, my son.

0:23:07 > 0:23:08Down the middle!

0:23:09 > 0:23:11That's how we do it!

0:23:15 > 0:23:17Final corner, dude. P3.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21- Come on.- We got a podium! We got a podium!

0:23:27 > 0:23:30It's just a fleet of hideous 2CVs.

0:23:30 > 0:23:34Fast and furious but, you know, you ask any racing driver,

0:23:34 > 0:23:37does he want to get behind the wheel? And I bet he would.

0:23:37 > 0:23:41Absolutely. All right, well, maybe if championship number three doesn't

0:23:41 > 0:23:44materialise, then maybe we can see you in this!

0:23:44 > 0:23:46There's a career for me there somewhere.

0:23:46 > 0:23:49Excellent. And on that note, I'm going to have to wrap this up.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52A big thank-you to our guests, Colin Turkington and Brennan Reece.

0:23:54 > 0:23:56See you next week, guys. Goodnight!
