0:01:13 > 0:01:17I'm Andy and I work here in the dinosaur gallery

0:01:17 > 0:01:19of the National Museum.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Hattie is working on a new display today

0:01:21 > 0:01:25set in the time of the earliest dinosaurs. Can't wait to see it.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28She's asked me to bring this screwdriver.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38- Good job on the display, Hattie! - Morning, Andy.- Did you make this?

0:01:38 > 0:01:42- Yep.- What an interesting-looking dinosaur.

0:01:42 > 0:01:48- Oh, it's not a dinosaur, this is a Placerias.- A Placerias...?

0:01:48 > 0:01:50A Placerias. You see, dinosaurs

0:01:50 > 0:01:53weren't the first big animals to rule the world.

0:01:53 > 0:01:58Before dinosaurs came along, another group of giant reptiles

0:01:58 > 0:02:04roamed the earth, and that group included this lovely Placerias here.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07He probably spent most of his time in the river

0:02:07 > 0:02:11hiding from ferocious meat-eaters while eating the water plants.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Like a hippopotamus.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15A bit, except hippos live in Africa,

0:02:15 > 0:02:20while Placerias lived in what is now North America.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23What is NOW North America?

0:02:23 > 0:02:28220 million years ago, when Placerias was alive, there was no such thing

0:02:28 > 0:02:32as North America or Africa or any of the other continents.

0:02:32 > 0:02:38There was just one big piece of land called Pangaea. Look...

0:02:40 > 0:02:44Sometime after all the Placerias died out,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Pangaea began to break up into smaller pieces

0:02:47 > 0:02:51that then drifted around the world until, millions of years later,

0:02:51 > 0:02:55those pieces of land became the seven continents we have now -

0:02:55 > 0:03:00Asia, Africa, Antarctica, Europe, Australia, South America and,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02last but not least...

0:03:02 > 0:03:04- North America.- Yeah.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07He seems sturdy enough. Now, what next?

0:03:07 > 0:03:09CREAKING

0:03:09 > 0:03:11Ohhh! CRASH

0:03:11 > 0:03:15I was so busy making sure the sculpture didn't fall off,

0:03:15 > 0:03:19- I completely forgot about the stand.- It's OK, I'll fix it for you.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Thanks, but how?

0:03:21 > 0:03:26I could try to make another really quickly or find a skeleton or...

0:03:26 > 0:03:30- Don't worry, Hattie, I'll sort it out.- But there's so little time.

0:03:30 > 0:03:31CLOCK CHIMES

0:03:34 > 0:03:38PTERODACTYL SCREECHES THE HOUR

0:03:38 > 0:03:43- I'll MAKE time!- Really?- Trust me. - Oh, thanks, Andy.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46- I knew I could count on you. - Always! You know what this means?

0:03:46 > 0:03:49Time to go on a dinosaur adventure!

0:03:56 > 0:04:01Waistcoat, gizmo, hat and, last but not least, Hattie's backpack.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16To the time of Placerias!

0:04:16 > 0:04:20MECHANISM CLICKS AND WHIRS

0:04:29 > 0:04:32CLANKING AND WHIRRING

0:04:40 > 0:04:43CREATURES SCREECH

0:04:51 > 0:04:52I've made it!

0:04:52 > 0:04:55I've travelled back in time 220 million years

0:04:55 > 0:04:56to the time of Placerias.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01Hang on...

0:05:01 > 0:05:04Look at this! Red clay everywhere.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07This will be perfect for making the sculpture that Hattie broke.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11Oh, but hang on...

0:05:11 > 0:05:15Oh, no, this stuff is too dry. I need some nice wet clay.

0:05:15 > 0:05:21And I think I'm only going to find that by some water. Um...

0:05:21 > 0:05:23OK, I'll try this way.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32There's definitely no water here.

0:05:43 > 0:05:48A whole herd of Placerias! Now, what did Hattie say?

0:05:48 > 0:05:52She said they spent most of their time by the river.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55Which means they've probably found some water.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00No, this one looks pretty thirsty.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04Looks like he hasn't had a drink for a while, actually.

0:06:04 > 0:06:08But if they're that thirsty then they are still looking for water!

0:06:08 > 0:06:11If I follow them, maybe they'll lead me to the river,

0:06:11 > 0:06:14where I can find some nice wet clay.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20This is a much cooler way to get around.

0:06:20 > 0:06:26Much easier on the feet, too. Come on! That's it, boy, keep on going!

0:06:26 > 0:06:29Look at all these plants! That's a good sign.

0:06:29 > 0:06:35It means there's water close by. And look at this amazing view!

0:06:39 > 0:06:42There was no grass in the time of the early dinosaurs,

0:06:42 > 0:06:46but there was still some fantastic greenery.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53Oh! There's nothing like being in the countryside

0:06:53 > 0:06:57millions of years before any noisy traffic.

0:06:57 > 0:06:59GROWLING

0:06:59 > 0:07:03Oh... I spoke too soon.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05GRUNTING AND GROWLING

0:07:05 > 0:07:07Whoa! Whoa!

0:07:08 > 0:07:11What's going on?

0:07:17 > 0:07:18Huh?

0:07:19 > 0:07:22Oh, I see the problem.

0:07:22 > 0:07:27It's a hungry Coelophysis, one of the earliest dinosaurs.

0:07:27 > 0:07:32You're not big enough to catch these huge Placerias, not on your own.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34Coelophysis are used to hunting in groups.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38There is no way they could bite into the thick skin of these guys.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40GRUNTING

0:07:43 > 0:07:45That's it, you tell him!

0:07:47 > 0:07:52Ha-ha! That saw him off. Now, time to find that water.

0:07:52 > 0:07:56But more importantly, the red clay. Where is my list?

0:07:56 > 0:07:58Wait for me!

0:08:02 > 0:08:06Oh, yes! There's plenty of water down there.

0:08:06 > 0:08:11And lots of red clay, too! Come on! Onwards!

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Whoa...

0:08:16 > 0:08:19Whoa! Easy!

0:08:19 > 0:08:21Not too fast now!

0:08:21 > 0:08:24OK, be careful.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27Watch out for those trees. No...

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Aagh!

0:08:30 > 0:08:33It's all right. Oh!

0:08:38 > 0:08:40Ha-ha!

0:08:44 > 0:08:47Oh! Look at all this lovely red clay.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52I hope it's thick enough so I can make my... Whoa!

0:08:54 > 0:08:56..sculpture...

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Eurgh!

0:08:58 > 0:09:00Yep, it's definitely thick enough.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08Right... Time to get sculpting.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12THEME FROM "VISION ON" PLAYS

0:09:16 > 0:09:18PLACERIAS GRUNTS

0:09:37 > 0:09:39PLACERIAS GRUNTS

0:09:50 > 0:09:53MUD SQUELCHES

0:10:08 > 0:10:12There! All done.

0:10:12 > 0:10:14Hattie should be impressed with this.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Right, I've got just enough time for a quick wash,

0:10:17 > 0:10:18then I'll head back.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24Ohhh... Ahhh...

0:10:24 > 0:10:25PLACERIAS GRUNT

0:10:29 > 0:10:31Aaagh!

0:10:31 > 0:10:37Oh, no. I can't move! I'm stuck in the mud! Ooh!

0:10:37 > 0:10:39What am I going to do?

0:10:39 > 0:10:41I've got to get back to the museum!

0:10:42 > 0:10:46Hattie's backpack. It's always full of useful things.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54Huh? Huh?

0:10:54 > 0:10:55Hattie's lunchbox?!

0:10:58 > 0:11:00How is this going to help me?

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Whoa...!

0:11:54 > 0:11:56CLOCK CHIMES

0:12:35 > 0:12:37Hurry along now!

0:12:55 > 0:12:58This is a sculpture of a Placerias.

0:12:58 > 0:13:03An animal that lived at the same time as some of the first dinosaurs.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Its tusks may look scary,

0:13:05 > 0:13:08but they were actually used for digging up plants.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11And helping me out of the water, of course.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14Feel free to look around, but please don't touch the sculpture,

0:13:14 > 0:13:17it's very delicate.

0:13:17 > 0:13:21I don't know how you did it, but that sculpture is so real!

0:13:21 > 0:13:24It's as though you had a Placerias right in front of you.

0:13:25 > 0:13:27Shhh!
