0:01:13 > 0:01:16Hello, I'm Andy

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and I work in the dinosaur gallery of the National Museum.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Hatty is working on a brand-new display

0:01:22 > 0:01:25all about horned dinosaurs - can't wait to see it,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28and to find out what's in this box.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Whoa, look at the size of that skull!

0:01:39 > 0:01:41- Hatty!- Here I am.

0:01:41 > 0:01:46I'm just putting the finishing touches to this Triceratops skull.

0:01:46 > 0:01:50- Triceratops. I thought they had two large horns.- They do.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54- You're carrying the other one. - Really?

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Is it real?

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Unfortunately not.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03When I found this skull, one of its horns had broken off.

0:02:03 > 0:02:08So, I made this out of polystyrene, paper and glue.

0:02:08 > 0:02:14- Pretty good, don't you think?- It's realistic and it's big, too.- Right.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18- So, he had three horns? - That's what Triceratops means.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Three horns.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24- Must have been a terrifying hunter. - They weren't hunters.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25They were plant-eaters.

0:02:25 > 0:02:3065 million years ago there would have been thousands of them roaming across

0:02:30 > 0:02:34North America using their funny beaks to pull up all the plants.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38But if they only ate plants, what did they use the horns for?

0:02:38 > 0:02:41They probably used them against other Triceratops

0:02:41 > 0:02:45when they were deciding who'd be leader of the pack.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Like a goat when it's about to butt another goat.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Or deer, where they clash antlers.

0:02:51 > 0:02:56And just like antlers, Triceratops horns would've sometimes broken off

0:02:56 > 0:02:58when they were fighting.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02Which might explain why this skull only had one horn when I found it.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Urgh! I'd better get going.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07The museum opens soon and I've got lots to do.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Can you put the horn on the skull?

0:03:09 > 0:03:13- Really? Absolutely!- Thanks, Andy. I knew I could count on you.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Always, Hatty!

0:03:26 > 0:03:28Touche, Triceratops!

0:03:35 > 0:03:39Oh, no! What am I going to do?

0:03:39 > 0:03:42Triceratops can't just have one big horn.

0:03:43 > 0:03:48I could make a new one. Or I could stick this one together.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50CLOCK CHIMES

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Rargh! Raargh!

0:03:57 > 0:04:03Or even better, time to go on a dinosaur adventure!

0:04:13 > 0:04:15Right, waistcoat.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21Check! Gizmo.

0:04:22 > 0:04:24Check! Hat.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27Check!

0:04:27 > 0:04:32And last, but not least, Hatty's backpack.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56To the time of Triceratops!

0:05:00 > 0:05:04PING! PING!

0:05:26 > 0:05:28I've made it!

0:05:28 > 0:05:32I've travelled back in time 65 million years to the time of

0:05:32 > 0:05:34Triceratops.

0:05:34 > 0:05:38Hatty said there were lots of Triceratops in their time,

0:05:38 > 0:05:41so it shouldn't be too difficult to find one.

0:05:41 > 0:05:47And hopefully find a few horns as well. What was that?

0:05:47 > 0:05:49Maybe that's one now.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04Well, I found a Triceratops, only this one

0:06:04 > 0:06:07doesn't look like it's alive.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10I think it might have something to do with this T-rex.

0:06:10 > 0:06:15He doesn't seem like he wants to eat it, which is strange.

0:06:15 > 0:06:17What was that?!

0:06:20 > 0:06:23It's another T-rex!

0:06:32 > 0:06:36This one's a female Tyrannosaurus rex.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45Ah, this makes sense.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49It says here the male Tyrannosaurus rex hunted Triceratops

0:06:49 > 0:06:53and sometimes gave it as a present to the females.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56They were bigger than the males.

0:06:56 > 0:07:00Ooh, that's why he's a bit wary.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03I don't blame him. I think I might leave -

0:07:03 > 0:07:06just in case she's looking for pudding!

0:07:26 > 0:07:33What is that? It says on my gizmo that that is an Ankylosaurus.

0:07:33 > 0:07:38A plant-eater just like Triceratops. And look.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41He's covered from head to tail in spikes.

0:07:43 > 0:07:49There's another one. Check out the club on the end of its tail.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53That would easily fend off a Tyrannosaurus rex.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56Right, plant-eaters stick together,

0:07:56 > 0:07:59so Triceratops shouldn't be far away.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07There they are.

0:08:15 > 0:08:20Not only have I found the herd...

0:08:20 > 0:08:23I've also got myself a lift.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38Uh-oh! Things seem to be hotting up here.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46I think I might get off.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55Look! These two males are trying to scare each other away.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58And the winner gets to be the leader.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04Look at this one.

0:09:04 > 0:09:08He's flushing blood into his crest - he's showing off!

0:09:08 > 0:09:11He's getting really colourful.

0:09:11 > 0:09:15Ah, the one with the best display is the winner.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17The other one is the loser.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22That way, they get to sort out who is going to be leader

0:09:22 > 0:09:25without actually fighting.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29Although sometimes showing off doesn't work.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32A proper fight breaks out.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37Like these two over here.

0:09:37 > 0:09:42Ooh! Nice. He's struggling back.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53That one's broken its horn.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Perfect.

0:10:08 > 0:10:13Oh. No, no. No, I just picked it up! It's not mine.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16I don't want to be the leader of a pack.

0:10:16 > 0:10:18- CLOCK CHIMES - The clock!

0:10:18 > 0:10:20The museum is going to open soon.

0:10:20 > 0:10:25What am I going to do? Um... Hatty's backpack.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28It's always full of useful things.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39A fan. How is this going to help me?

0:10:41 > 0:10:43Unless...

0:10:45 > 0:10:47ROAR!

0:10:48 > 0:10:50Argh!

0:10:50 > 0:10:53Rrrrghhh!

0:10:59 > 0:11:03It worked! The bright colours scared him off.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06- CLOCK CHIMES - I've got to get back.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19See you later, T-rex!

0:12:08 > 0:12:12CLOCK CHIMES

0:12:38 > 0:12:40HATTY: Hurry along, now.

0:12:47 > 0:12:52This is the skull of a Triceratops, a three-horned, plant-eating

0:12:52 > 0:12:56dinosaur that lived at the same time as Tyrannosaurus rex.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59It probably used its horns to defend itself

0:12:59 > 0:13:02- and to fight other Triceratops. - And me!

0:13:02 > 0:13:06It was mainly a peaceful animal that travelled in herds.

0:13:06 > 0:13:11- Thanks, Andy. Those horns look great. - No problem, Hatty!

0:13:11 > 0:13:15Even more realistic than I remember.

0:13:16 > 0:13:20Shush! See you next time!

0:13:33 > 0:13:35# 1, 2, 3, 4

0:13:35 > 0:13:37# Andy's dinosaur adventures!

0:13:37 > 0:13:41# Dinosaur, dinosaur adventures! #
