0:01:20 > 0:01:24Hi, I'm Andy. I run the prehistoric gallery here at the National Museum.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28Today, I've been working on a new display about a dinosaur

0:01:28 > 0:01:31that looked really big but was actually small.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Follow me, I'll explain.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39- Hi, Jen.- Oh, hello, Andy.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43There we go. What are you up to?

0:01:43 > 0:01:47I'm trying to work out what type of reeds these are in the picture.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49What do you mean?

0:01:49 > 0:01:52I know that's a sauropod dinosaur and they were huge,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55so the reeds next to them must have been huge as well.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58But I can't find anything on the internet

0:01:58 > 0:02:00about giant prehistoric reeds.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Just normal-sized ones, like those.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06That's because it's not the reeds that are big,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09- it's the dinosaur that's small.- Oh.

0:02:09 > 0:02:13But I thought sauropod dinosaurs were massive, as big as a house.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17Most of them were but this dinosaur was very special.

0:02:17 > 0:02:22It's called Magyarosaurus. It only grew to about the size of a pony.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23Why were they so small?

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Because on the prehistoric island where they lived,

0:02:26 > 0:02:30there weren't enough plants to feed big dinosaurs,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32so Magyarosaurus got smaller and smaller.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Mrs Pickles gave me these reeds. She thinks they used to eat them.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40Well, it says here that reeds are very sensitive plants

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and need plenty of water.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Oh, I'd better water them then, before we go home.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Um... Ah!

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Here we go.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52A nice, refreshing drink.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58Oh, no!

0:03:00 > 0:03:03- Oops!- Are you sure that was water?

0:03:10 > 0:03:13I think it was cleaning polish.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14They're ruined!

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Mrs Pickles will be so upset.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19I can't show her her reeds looking like this.

0:03:19 > 0:03:24- Can we buy some more?- It's too late, all the shops will be shut.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26There's just not enough time.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27CLOCK CHIMES

0:03:34 > 0:03:35Time.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38That's it!

0:03:38 > 0:03:42Jen, you stay here, I'll be back soon with some new reeds.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45- Time to go on a prehistoric adventure.- But, Andy...

0:03:45 > 0:03:47How will you...?

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Waistcoat.

0:03:57 > 0:03:58Check.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00Hat.

0:04:01 > 0:04:02Check.

0:04:02 > 0:04:03Backpack.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06Check.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08And last, but not least, gizmo.

0:04:10 > 0:04:11Check.

0:04:28 > 0:04:30To the time of Magyarosaurus!

0:04:50 > 0:04:52Yahoo!

0:05:01 > 0:05:03I've made it!

0:05:03 > 0:05:08I've travelled back 70 million years to the time of Magyarosaurus.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11And look, I'm in the perfect spot.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13There are reeds everywhere.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17This is going to be the quickest adventure ever.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Um...

0:05:38 > 0:05:40There we go.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45Well, that was easy enough.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47Time to head...

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Hang on.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52It's a footprint.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56And they're leading all the way over there.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02Just as I thought. It's a Magyarosaurus.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05I've never seen one of those before.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Oh, I've got plenty of time.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12I could have a quick look and then head straight back.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16Yes. I mean, what's the worst that can happen?

0:06:19 > 0:06:22What's that?

0:06:22 > 0:06:24It's definitely not Magyarosaurus.

0:06:26 > 0:06:27SQUAWKING

0:06:27 > 0:06:31It's a whole group of Hatzegopteryx.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35Giant flying reptiles the size of giraffes.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38Look at the size of their beaks.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40They could do some damage.

0:06:40 > 0:06:44I've got to sneak past them. It's going to be tricky though.

0:06:44 > 0:06:46I've got a good idea.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50To the size of...

0:06:52 > 0:06:54To the size of a puppy.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56YAPPING

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Perfect. Now they won't be able to spot me.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07GROWLING

0:07:11 > 0:07:13SQUAWKING

0:07:26 > 0:07:28SQUAWKING

0:07:31 > 0:07:34Wow, their beaks really are big!

0:07:39 > 0:07:42Oh, that was a close call.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46Right...now to find Magyarosaurus.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Yes! It's a whole herd of Magyarosaurus!

0:07:57 > 0:07:59This is exactly what I wanted to see.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03Hello, little fella. How are you doing?

0:08:03 > 0:08:05That's it, eat your greens.

0:08:09 > 0:08:14Hang on, these can't be Magyarosaurus, they're massive.

0:08:16 > 0:08:20Oh, silly me! Of course - I'm still the size of a puppy!

0:08:20 > 0:08:23No wonder they look giant.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Back to normal size.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33There we go. What's that?

0:08:36 > 0:08:38The Hatzegopteryx are back!

0:08:41 > 0:08:42Oh...

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Here he comes.

0:08:48 > 0:08:49Whoa!

0:08:53 > 0:08:55What are they up to?

0:08:55 > 0:08:57They're looking for something.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03Hmm, they don't seem interested in me.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08I know what they're after.

0:09:08 > 0:09:10The baby Magyarosaurus!

0:09:16 > 0:09:17GROWLING

0:09:18 > 0:09:20Oh, no!

0:09:22 > 0:09:26Hey! Put him down, you big bully!

0:09:28 > 0:09:31Now they're fighting over him.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41Be careful you don't get stepped on.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Run for it, little guy!

0:09:49 > 0:09:50Cor!

0:09:52 > 0:09:54Yes, he got away.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59Ha-ha! No dinner for you two.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05The clock, he's got my clock!

0:10:07 > 0:10:09Give that back.

0:10:19 > 0:10:23Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to swim out to it.

0:10:23 > 0:10:25Whoa!

0:10:26 > 0:10:30On second thoughts, maybe swimming to it's not a good idea.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34What am I going to do? Um...

0:10:34 > 0:10:38My backpack. It's always full of useful things.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41Right.

0:10:41 > 0:10:42Sandpaper?

0:10:45 > 0:10:47A miniature hairbrush?

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Fast-acting glue?

0:10:53 > 0:10:55How is all this going to help me?

0:10:57 > 0:11:01Maybe if I'm quiet, I can sneak up and... Whoa!

0:11:01 > 0:11:03No.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07Whatever's in the water has got lots of sharp teeth.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10It's making me very jumpy.
