0:00:35 > 0:00:39Hi, I'm Andy and I work here at Pickles' Animal Park,

0:00:39 > 0:00:42It's my job to look after the animals.

0:00:42 > 0:00:47I'm feeding the chipmunks so they've got enough food.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50That's it, Alvin. Eat up!

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Hey, take a look at them!

0:00:52 > 0:00:57They're old socks and the chipmunks use them to make nests. Cool, huh?

0:00:57 > 0:01:01- That sock there's mine. - Smelly sock!- Oof!

0:01:01 > 0:01:03'Are you there, Andy? Over.'

0:01:03 > 0:01:06It's Mr Pickles. All right, boss?

0:01:06 > 0:01:10Hello, Mr Pickles. Andy receiving loud and clear. Over.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14'Hello, Andy. A bowerbird is making a nest

0:01:14 > 0:01:17'but can't find enough feathers.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21'Could you see if there are any lying around? Over.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22OK, no problem.

0:01:22 > 0:01:27I'll visit the birds now and see what I can find. Over.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29'Good lad! Pickles out.'

0:01:29 > 0:01:31Right, let's go.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33See you later!

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Now, is everything OK, guys?

0:01:38 > 0:01:43These lorikeets in the wild nest in large hollow tress.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47But in the park, we've put up some boxes for them to nest in.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49OK, guys, fancy a drink?

0:01:49 > 0:01:54Oh, before I give you a drink, do you have any spare feathers?

0:01:54 > 0:01:56No, Andy, we haven't.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Oh, that's a shame.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01I'll have a think about it on my tea break.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Right, here we go.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Hello, Kip.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Oh, hello, Andy.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Wow! What are these?

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Oh, just my latest brilliant invention.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30My completely cool climbing claws.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Wow! What do they do?

0:02:32 > 0:02:36Well, when I want to climb up somewhere really high,

0:02:36 > 0:02:41all I need to do is put these on and - tadaaa! - away I go!

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Amazing, Kip! What a great idea.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Do you know what? You're a true cat genius, you are.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Oh, thanks, Andy. Ha-ha ha!

0:02:50 > 0:02:53So what have you been doing?

0:02:53 > 0:02:57I've seen the chipmunks nesting in their socks again,

0:02:57 > 0:03:01and the lorikeets have laid lots of eggs in their nest boxes.

0:03:01 > 0:03:06But I thought birds laid their eggs in nests, in trees.

0:03:06 > 0:03:11No, not all of them. Look, I'll show you on the laptop. Here we go.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15Ah! You see, flamingos lay their eggs on mounds of mud,

0:03:15 > 0:03:19kingfishers lay theirs in holes in a riverbank,

0:03:19 > 0:03:22and puffins lay theirs underground.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25But one bird lays its eggs somewhere

0:03:25 > 0:03:29so far off they can barely get there themselves.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Really? What bird's that?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33A chinstrap penguin.

0:03:33 > 0:03:38It lives in a place called Antarctica but the amazing thing is,

0:03:38 > 0:03:43it lays its eggs on a cliff top so high up and difficult to climb,

0:03:43 > 0:03:47that even feeding its chicks is a real adventure.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51Oh. Well, why can't it just fly to the top of the cliff?

0:03:51 > 0:03:54Because penguins can't fly.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56They have to walk all the way up.

0:03:56 > 0:04:01Wow! Maybe they could use my completely cool climbing claws.

0:04:01 > 0:04:02Or I could!

0:04:02 > 0:04:06Ah! You know what this sounds like, right?

0:04:06 > 0:04:07I certainly do!

0:04:07 > 0:04:10BOTH: Time to go on a wild adventure!

0:04:10 > 0:04:15We'll see the penguins climb the cliff to feed their young ones.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18You can test my climbing claws!

0:04:18 > 0:04:22Well, what are we waiting for? Let's do it!

0:04:22 > 0:04:24One, gadget pack.

0:04:24 > 0:04:25Check!

0:04:25 > 0:04:28Two, gizmo.

0:04:28 > 0:04:29- Check!- Three,

0:04:29 > 0:04:33completely cool climbing claws. Ha-ha!

0:04:33 > 0:04:35Just in case we need them. Yeah!

0:04:35 > 0:04:37Check!

0:04:37 > 0:04:42And, last but not least, the Kipmobile!

0:04:42 > 0:04:44Seatbelts on.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47Hit it, Kip.

0:05:29 > 0:05:31Lift-off!

0:05:38 > 0:05:41Woo-hoo-hoo! We're in space!

0:05:41 > 0:05:43So, where to, Andy?

0:05:43 > 0:05:47That big patch of white down there is Antarctica.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51We're off to an island nearby - Deception Island.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Deception Island, here we come.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57Go, cat nav, gooooo!

0:05:57 > 0:05:59Woah, ho, ho, ho, ho, hohhh!

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Are we nearly there yet, kip?

0:06:06 > 0:06:08Not far now.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Look, chinstrap penguins!

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Wow! There's hundreds of them.

0:06:14 > 0:06:19And it looks like they're just back from a fishing trip at sea.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Oh, woah, they must be freezing!

0:06:22 > 0:06:27Actually, they're probably quite cosy, as a thick layer of fat

0:06:27 > 0:06:31keeps them warm and their feathers are waterproof.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35Right. OK, Kip, let's find somewhere to land.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37Woah-oah! Woah-ho-ho!

0:06:48 > 0:06:52So, where are these nests, then?

0:06:52 > 0:06:56On that island over there, right on top of that old volcano.

0:06:56 > 0:07:03Volcano? So how exactly do we, er, YOU, plan to get there?

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Oh, yeah.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10I'm going to swim there!

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Size of a chinstrap penguin.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Activate rocket pack!

0:07:26 > 0:07:28Underwater mode!

0:07:30 > 0:07:35Kip, are you OK to stay here and look after the Kipmobile,

0:07:35 > 0:07:37in case the ice breaks up?

0:07:37 > 0:07:41OK. I guess someone has to. Ha-ha!

0:07:41 > 0:07:45Perfect! Well done, Kip! Now it's time for a dip!

0:07:49 > 0:07:51This...

0:07:51 > 0:07:53..is...

0:07:53 > 0:07:55..great!

0:07:57 > 0:07:58Yeearrrgh!

0:08:03 > 0:08:07These have just caught some fish, swallowed it, and are

0:08:07 > 0:08:11taking it up the cliff to feed their chicks.

0:08:11 > 0:08:15I'll follow them to find out how they do it. This way!

0:08:15 > 0:08:19There are not just a few penguins making the journey,

0:08:19 > 0:08:22there are thousands of them,

0:08:22 > 0:08:27all trying to make their way up that slippery slope behind me.

0:08:32 > 0:08:36The problem is, the cliff face is so muddy and slippery,

0:08:36 > 0:08:40that it makes it really difficult to climb up.

0:08:40 > 0:08:46Luckily, they've got very sharp claws to grip the ground with.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50Otherwise, it's just their beaks or their wings.

0:08:50 > 0:08:52Are you all right there, buddy?

0:08:52 > 0:08:56That's it. Don't give up. Keep on going!

0:08:56 > 0:09:00This mum knows what she's doing. I'll follow her.

0:09:00 > 0:09:04- Andy, are you there? - I sure am. How are you doing?

0:09:04 > 0:09:08All right but, er, I seem to have a visitor.

0:09:08 > 0:09:10Here, look!

0:09:10 > 0:09:13Oh, don't worry about him.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15He's just a seal.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18Er, and a hungry-looking seal!

0:09:18 > 0:09:23Yes, but he eats krill which are like tiny little shrimps.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25Not cats!

0:09:25 > 0:09:27Phew! Ha-ha ha-ha!

0:09:27 > 0:09:30Right, I'll see you later, Kip.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34Right, OK, now to tackle this.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37Er, do you mind if I...?

0:09:38 > 0:09:43Now, if I put my hand here and my foot here...

0:09:45 > 0:09:48Woahhh!

0:09:48 > 0:09:52Oh, no! I'm never going to be able to do this.

0:09:52 > 0:09:53Hang on.

0:09:53 > 0:09:59Of course! Kip's completely cool climbing claws.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01Ha-ha! Here we go.

0:10:01 > 0:10:02Woahhh!

0:10:13 > 0:10:16Hang on, wait for me! I'm almost there.

0:10:20 > 0:10:25Oh, I've made it! These birds are so tough.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28She's still got to find her family.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Why are you looking at me like that?

0:10:33 > 0:10:38I might be small, but I'm no shrimp, OK? I'm a cat.

0:10:38 > 0:10:39Hmph!

0:10:39 > 0:10:43C-A-T. Cat!

0:10:43 > 0:10:45Hmph!

0:10:45 > 0:10:51I can't believe she's travelled from the sea... Whoa! Whoops!

0:10:51 > 0:10:53..all the way here.

0:10:58 > 0:11:04She now has to find her own family amongst all these thousands

0:11:04 > 0:11:09and thousands of birds, but luckily she has the most amazing hearing,

0:11:09 > 0:11:14so good that she can actually hear her own baby chick calling,

0:11:14 > 0:11:18even with all the others calling at the same time.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Oh, look! She's made it!

0:11:21 > 0:11:24Aw! And her and the dad are really happy.

0:11:24 > 0:11:29Look at them wagging their heads. They're like little lovebirds.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33Aw! And there's the chick.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36Now we know why mum's climbed all this way,

0:11:36 > 0:11:41to feed her chick with the fish she kept in her tummy.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43I've swum and climbed with them,

0:11:43 > 0:11:48watched them do all this, just to give their baby chicks

0:11:48 > 0:11:49a mouthful of food,

0:11:49 > 0:11:53and now it's dad's turn to do it all over again.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56I'm so tired and I've only done it once!

0:11:56 > 0:12:01Kip, you couldn't come and pick me up, could you?

0:12:01 > 0:12:05Don't think I have the energy to walk down. I'm exhausted!

0:12:05 > 0:12:08Ah-ha! There!

0:12:08 > 0:12:11Oh, well done, Kip. I knew I could count on you.

0:12:11 > 0:12:13Andy, upload!

0:12:13 > 0:12:16See you later, penguins.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Oop! Ah, thanks, Kip. Good timing!

0:12:52 > 0:12:56'Andy? Are you there, Andy? Over.'

0:12:56 > 0:12:59Uh-oh! It's Mr Pickles, the boss!

0:13:01 > 0:13:06Er, hello, Mr Pickles. Andy here, receiving loud and clear. Over.

0:13:06 > 0:13:10'Where have you been, Andy? Over.'

0:13:10 > 0:13:13Erm, I've just been, er...

0:13:13 > 0:13:20I've just been collecting feathers for the bowerbird's nest. Over.

0:13:20 > 0:13:24'Oh, smashing, Andy! Just what we need, Pickles out.'

0:13:24 > 0:13:28Right, back to work for me. I'll see you next time.
