0:00:14 > 0:00:17bizarre and unusual animals at work.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19Coming up next...
0:00:19 > 0:00:22What, are you just gonna leave me here?
0:00:22 > 0:00:26Top crime-fighting duo Lucky and Flo sniff out illegal DVDs.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30I would put them in the superstar bracket...
0:00:31 > 0:00:35Will Bear the trainee lifeguard instructor get to graduate?
0:00:38 > 0:00:44And Pigasso the artist does his first ever piggy painting.
0:00:44 > 0:00:46- What do you think of this? - He pooed.- He has.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48And there goes the dog.
0:01:04 > 0:01:08Hi, and welcome to the show. So do you fancy yourself as a film critic?
0:01:08 > 0:01:11Think you're good at spotting a RUFF DVD? Think again.
0:01:11 > 0:01:13Because there are some mutts in the movie business
0:01:13 > 0:01:16that can sniff out a bad picture at ten paces.
0:01:16 > 0:01:19Let's hope they don't get their paws on some of my howlers!
0:01:19 > 0:01:23It's an open-and-shut case of police canine action
0:01:23 > 0:01:26as we join some crime-busting animals at work.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34First, we're off to a secret location in England.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44Meet Lucky and Flo, a couple of super sniffer dogs
0:01:44 > 0:01:47that live to whiff out illegal DVDs.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51So far this crime-busting duo have tracked down
0:01:51 > 0:01:58£3 million worth of illegal DVDs and helped put 26 criminals behind bars!
0:02:00 > 0:02:03Lucky and Flo are four-year-old Labradors.
0:02:03 > 0:02:07They're the first dogs in the world trained to find DVDs.
0:02:07 > 0:02:12To be exact, they sniff out the plastic, called polycarbonate.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15They've now had a period of rest and a holiday really,
0:02:15 > 0:02:19and we just need to bring them back up to speed.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Illegal DVDs are a big problem.
0:02:21 > 0:02:25Not only do they cost the UK and North American film industries
0:02:25 > 0:02:29billions in lost sales, the cash from dodgy ones
0:02:29 > 0:02:32often gets funnelled into crime.
0:02:32 > 0:02:35And that's where Lucky and Flo come in.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38They may eat, sleep and sniff out crime together,
0:02:38 > 0:02:41but they have very different personalities.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44Lucky just wants someone to throw something to her.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46Flo would want someone to stroke her as well.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49I would put them in the superstar bracket.
0:02:49 > 0:02:54Even though Lucky and Flo are natural-born sniffers,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57their training is tough but also has to be fun.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01The dogs are shown a particular smell,
0:03:01 > 0:03:04in this case, the polycarbonate from a DVD.
0:03:04 > 0:03:09Once they find the smell, they're rewarded with a tennis ball.
0:03:09 > 0:03:14Using a ball as a reward is ideal for training Labradors.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16By linking a successful sniff with a game,
0:03:16 > 0:03:20work becomes fun for these frisky Labs.
0:03:20 > 0:03:24Her brain click in to remembering the smell that gets her the toy
0:03:24 > 0:03:27and that's what's going through her head -
0:03:27 > 0:03:30is that smell out here in this field somewhere?
0:03:30 > 0:03:32It's the same process with a bomb dog or a drug dog.
0:03:32 > 0:03:36The only difference with them is that they've probably got four or five
0:03:36 > 0:03:39different smells to remember whereas she's only got one.
0:03:39 > 0:03:43And sticking to just one smell has helped them become
0:03:43 > 0:03:45a crack crime-fighting team, as well as best mates.
0:03:45 > 0:03:49They've got on famously from the day they met.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52It's almost like they were long lost friends who'd been brought together.
0:03:52 > 0:03:55The Labrador retriever is a very, very social dog,
0:03:55 > 0:03:58both towards other animals and towards people.
0:03:58 > 0:04:03It's very difficult to say if there is a leader with these two.
0:04:03 > 0:04:07They seem to get on so well together that neither one is dominant.
0:04:07 > 0:04:09Flo is the steadier dog
0:04:09 > 0:04:12and wants to please and wants to do the job, but the drive in Lucky is,
0:04:12 > 0:04:16whether we were here or not, she'd be playing with that ball.
0:04:16 > 0:04:23It's just the desire to play, to carry, to fetch...
0:04:23 > 0:04:26This dog's just got everything.
0:04:32 > 0:04:35MUSIC: Theme from Hawaii Five-O
0:04:39 > 0:04:41These special forces canines
0:04:41 > 0:04:44come from a long law-enforcement tradition,
0:04:44 > 0:04:48and Labradors are top choice for top dog.
0:04:48 > 0:04:52Most police forces and other agencies that use search dogs
0:04:52 > 0:04:56tend to go for either the Labrador or springer spaniel.
0:04:56 > 0:05:01They're bred for their nose work. They're compact. They're energetic.
0:05:01 > 0:05:05Both dogs have a track record of finding so many illegal DVDs
0:05:05 > 0:05:09it's made them some enemies in the criminal underworld.
0:05:09 > 0:05:12There's now a 30,000 bounty on their heads to kill them.
0:05:12 > 0:05:16We have to be very careful with their security as a result of that.
0:05:16 > 0:05:19Does it worry them? We haven't told them about the bounty,
0:05:19 > 0:05:22so they don't know anything about it.
0:05:22 > 0:05:23MUSIC: Theme from Batman
0:05:23 > 0:05:27This super canine combo, with a £20,000 target on their heads,
0:05:27 > 0:05:30are protected with extra security.
0:05:30 > 0:05:32And they're going to need it,
0:05:32 > 0:05:34as they're about to face a new challenge -
0:05:34 > 0:05:39their first crime-busting assignment in the UK.
0:05:44 > 0:05:48We're staying in England to go to the Cotswolds.
0:05:53 > 0:05:57This is Bear and he's a trainee lifeguard instructor,
0:05:57 > 0:06:00training young people how to be lifeguards
0:06:00 > 0:06:02and help stranded swimmers.
0:06:02 > 0:06:05He's part of a team of more experienced Newfoundland dogs
0:06:05 > 0:06:08that work at this water park.
0:06:08 > 0:06:09HELP!
0:06:11 > 0:06:13The idea is that the young people
0:06:13 > 0:06:16watch the dogs towing them back to shore to learn how it's done.
0:06:16 > 0:06:18He hasn't got the hang of it yet.
0:06:23 > 0:06:26You can feel more confident when you've got a dog beside you,
0:06:26 > 0:06:31because you know that if anything happens, they're gonna help you.
0:06:31 > 0:06:34But two-year-old Bear is new to the job
0:06:34 > 0:06:36and hasn't quite got into the swim of things.
0:06:36 > 0:06:40He's definitely not up to speed.
0:06:40 > 0:06:42He just can't figure out what to do.
0:06:42 > 0:06:47Bear has a water-resistant double coat, webbed feet
0:06:47 > 0:06:50and is an incredibly strong swimmer, which is why Newfoundlands
0:06:50 > 0:06:52make great water-rescue dogs.
0:06:52 > 0:06:56But the lifesaving part is just too confusing for Bear.
0:06:56 > 0:06:58Go! Go!
0:06:59 > 0:07:03Go! Go.
0:07:03 > 0:07:04'There's the water...
0:07:04 > 0:07:07'the lifesaver, the rope,
0:07:07 > 0:07:10'But which part goes where?
0:07:10 > 0:07:12'It really isn't that hard, Bear!'
0:07:13 > 0:07:19Come on, Bear! A sweet temperament is one of the hallmarks of the breed
0:07:19 > 0:07:22and they love people, so the job should be a breeze.
0:07:22 > 0:07:26They're so incredibly strong, who needs a towboat?
0:07:27 > 0:07:31Bear should be good at the job of lifeguard. It's in his blood.
0:07:31 > 0:07:34And these beefy canines have a nickname -
0:07:34 > 0:07:36the St Bernard of the sea.
0:07:36 > 0:07:40There are even stories of them jumping into the water
0:07:40 > 0:07:42and rescuing shipwrecked sailors.
0:07:42 > 0:07:45Dogs with markings just like Bear
0:07:45 > 0:07:50have been a favourite artists' model for hundreds of years.
0:07:51 > 0:07:54On day two of training, with more encouragement,
0:07:54 > 0:07:59it looks like Bear just might be getting the hang of the job.
0:08:03 > 0:08:04Go for it, Bear!
0:08:04 > 0:08:06Go! Go!
0:08:06 > 0:08:09He's done it!
0:08:15 > 0:08:20That's it! Get in and pull the lifeguard trainees out.
0:08:20 > 0:08:23At last Bear's got to grips with his new job.
0:08:26 > 0:08:29Now it looks like everybody's going to graduate -
0:08:29 > 0:08:31the lifeguard trainees and Bear.
0:08:37 > 0:08:40We've been surfing the net to see what animals
0:08:40 > 0:08:41get up to in their spare time.
0:08:41 > 0:08:47Countess is a Himalayan seal tortie point cat who lives in Australia.
0:08:47 > 0:08:51She's a master of hide and seek, but the cat's out of the bag
0:08:51 > 0:08:55on her secret hiding place now that she's been caught on camera.
0:09:00 > 0:09:03Secret Mission Vase, accomplished!
0:09:08 > 0:09:12Next, we're back with another top-secret location,
0:09:12 > 0:09:13this time in England.
0:09:13 > 0:09:17Lucky and Flo are the super dogs of the crime-fighting world.
0:09:19 > 0:09:24Having worked their way across the globe sniffing out illegal DVDs,
0:09:24 > 0:09:28they've been putting their paws up for a well-earned rest.
0:09:28 > 0:09:31But it's a dog-eat-dog world and they're back in training
0:09:31 > 0:09:34for their next assignment, their first in the UK.
0:09:34 > 0:09:38They've got some quite important work coming up soon.
0:09:38 > 0:09:40Operational work.
0:09:42 > 0:09:45Lucky and Flo may be the world's top dogs for digging out DVDs,
0:09:45 > 0:09:49but they still need to be reminded of the smell they're hunting.
0:09:49 > 0:09:53Today the dogs are going to be put through a test search.
0:09:53 > 0:09:56Phil's going to plant some DVDs in some boxes.
0:09:56 > 0:09:59This is the only way to make sure their sniffing skills
0:09:59 > 0:10:00are back up to scratch.
0:10:00 > 0:10:04They've become a little lax. If they fall below standard
0:10:04 > 0:10:09and don't search properly, then obviously we're gonna have trouble
0:10:09 > 0:10:11finding illegal DVDs.
0:10:11 > 0:10:16Super hounds they might be but the pressure is on.
0:10:16 > 0:10:19Labradors have been bred for 200 years as sniffer dogs,
0:10:19 > 0:10:24so will these top dogs be able to find where Phil has hidden the DVDs?
0:10:26 > 0:10:29Hopefully everything will go well and we'll find the DVDs.
0:10:29 > 0:10:33DVDs contain polycarbonate, a kind of plastic.
0:10:33 > 0:10:37The dogs can't tell the difference between illegal and legal DVDs,
0:10:37 > 0:10:41so their job is just to track down the smell of this plastic.
0:10:41 > 0:10:43First up is Flo.
0:10:50 > 0:10:56When they're working, their tails are wagging. Work excites them.
0:10:57 > 0:11:00Flo is the more methodical of the two dogs.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02She's a little slower than Lucky.
0:11:02 > 0:11:05It only took eight months to train both their snouts,
0:11:05 > 0:11:08though for one of them, it's more about going with the Flo.
0:11:08 > 0:11:11She knows they're there and she's sitting back now,
0:11:11 > 0:11:13waiting for the ball to come in.
0:11:13 > 0:11:15Come on, Flo, you can do it.
0:11:16 > 0:11:19But she isn't going to budge until she's sure.
0:11:19 > 0:11:22Good girl!
0:11:22 > 0:11:24And the reward is a tennis ball.
0:11:24 > 0:11:28It's been slow and steady, yet Flo got there in the end.
0:11:28 > 0:11:32Can Lucky find the DVDs faster with her more energetic approach?
0:11:32 > 0:11:36The difference between the two is that Lucky's far quicker,
0:11:36 > 0:11:39which looks a more enthusiastic search
0:11:39 > 0:11:41but in fact, it's just her way of working.
0:11:47 > 0:11:51It may look energetic but will it get results?
0:11:58 > 0:12:02And Lucky's sniffed out the DVDs almost instantly.
0:12:03 > 0:12:06Good girl. Good dog! That's very good.
0:12:08 > 0:12:11They've both passed the test and Phil's happy
0:12:11 > 0:12:13that they're back on top form.
0:12:16 > 0:12:19Tomorrow is Lucky and Flo's first assignment in the UK.
0:12:19 > 0:12:22Will their sniffing skills be back on track
0:12:22 > 0:12:24in a difficult new location?
0:12:26 > 0:12:30'Quiet, please! Animals At Work, John's final link, take one.'
0:12:30 > 0:12:33- It's OK here? - 'Back a bit, please, John.
0:12:34 > 0:12:37'A little bit more, please...
0:12:37 > 0:12:39'If you could go all the way through the gate,
0:12:39 > 0:12:40'that would be brilliant.'
0:12:40 > 0:12:42- Here?- 'Yeah, a bit more. Thank you.'
0:12:42 > 0:12:45LION ROARS
0:12:45 > 0:12:47Stop tickling me!
0:12:49 > 0:12:52We're staying in England to go to Devon.
0:13:00 > 0:13:02These organic masterpieces were created
0:13:02 > 0:13:05to exquisitely capture the control of Rembrandt,
0:13:05 > 0:13:10along with the ultimate free expression of Jackson Pollock.
0:13:11 > 0:13:16And, believe it or not, they're created by pigs!
0:13:16 > 0:13:20Today there's a new piglet wannabe hoping he'll be the next
0:13:20 > 0:13:21crackling good artist.
0:13:21 > 0:13:25This little pig here is called Pigasso.
0:13:25 > 0:13:28He's six weeks old and he's going to have his first day
0:13:28 > 0:13:30trying to be an artist.
0:13:30 > 0:13:34Pigs love to play, so if you put them on a canvas with some paint
0:13:34 > 0:13:36they can use their snout
0:13:36 > 0:13:40or their trotters. Of course, if it gets very slippery,
0:13:40 > 0:13:42they get very excited and they might roll over
0:13:42 > 0:13:46and, as this is his first day, we're not quite sure what he's going to do.
0:13:46 > 0:13:49What do you think you're going to do today?
0:13:49 > 0:13:51Do you?
0:13:53 > 0:13:56At Pennywell Farm, pig painting is big business.
0:13:56 > 0:14:01Selling prints like these really brings home the bacon
0:14:01 > 0:14:04and raises money for farm food and for charity.
0:14:04 > 0:14:10These are the works of two retired piggy past masters -
0:14:10 > 0:14:12Van Trough, on the left,
0:14:12 > 0:14:14and Francis Bacon, on the right.
0:14:14 > 0:14:19They're now too porky to paint, so to stop a trotter
0:14:19 > 0:14:24tearing the canvas, little Pigasso is taking over.
0:14:24 > 0:14:27Pigasso is a very, very calm, confident pig.
0:14:27 > 0:14:30We'll see how his confidence grows as an artist.
0:14:30 > 0:14:34Pigasso is a Pennywell miniature pig.
0:14:36 > 0:14:38You want to hold it?
0:14:38 > 0:14:41They may be small but like full-sized porkers
0:14:41 > 0:14:44they still need lots of care and attention and to be kept amused!
0:14:44 > 0:14:48They're very special to us as
0:14:48 > 0:14:52we wanted pigs that were small that children could enjoy playing with.
0:14:54 > 0:14:58For the last 15 years we've actually been breeding specially to have a pig
0:14:58 > 0:15:02that stays small for a long time and when they become adults
0:15:02 > 0:15:06they're about the size of a springer spaniel, but a lot stouter.
0:15:06 > 0:15:11They are the cutest little things you can imagine and they make great pets.
0:15:11 > 0:15:13Oh, yum baba doo-doo...
0:15:13 > 0:15:16'Good afternoon, Pennywell farmers.
0:15:16 > 0:15:19'This is just to let you know that your next activity today
0:15:19 > 0:15:22'is piglet painting with our new pig, Pigasso.
0:15:22 > 0:15:25'It's Pigasso's first day on the job so do come along
0:15:25 > 0:15:28'if you'd like to come and watch him painting.'
0:15:29 > 0:15:32At just six weeks old,
0:15:32 > 0:15:36Pigasso is ready to have a go at his very first porky painting.
0:15:36 > 0:15:39The paint we use is actually very safe finger paint,
0:15:39 > 0:15:43the same as you'd buy for children when they do their first paintings
0:15:43 > 0:15:47and put their hand on the paint and splodge it on the paper.
0:15:49 > 0:15:53If you'd like to bring Pigasso in. Lovely, Vicky. Thank you.
0:15:53 > 0:15:56Here he comes. That's it. Give him a clap.
0:15:56 > 0:15:58APPLAUSE
0:15:58 > 0:16:00Hello.
0:16:00 > 0:16:03What do you think of all this?
0:16:03 > 0:16:06The paint is put on tiny sponges
0:16:06 > 0:16:10and sprinkled with food pellets to encourage Pigasso
0:16:10 > 0:16:11to move things around.
0:16:11 > 0:16:13Pigasso really looks like he wants
0:16:13 > 0:16:18to be number one, but sadly he also wants a number two!
0:16:18 > 0:16:19..That's good... Ah!
0:16:21 > 0:16:23Ooh! That's not brown paint!
0:16:23 > 0:16:25- He pooed.- He has.
0:16:27 > 0:16:30The finished painting is auctioned for charity.
0:16:30 > 0:16:33Can we have some bids, please?
0:16:33 > 0:16:35- £4.- You'll pay £4?
0:16:35 > 0:16:39- A fiver.- A fiver! That's £5 over there. Yes?
0:16:39 > 0:16:42How much are you gonna pay for it? Ten? £10!
0:16:42 > 0:16:46It's going to Spike here! Ten pounds for Spike!
0:16:46 > 0:16:48Spike's got it. Thank you, madam.
0:16:48 > 0:16:51Delighted. Thank you very much, sir.
0:16:51 > 0:16:54- OK. Lovely.- I'm not sure where we're gonna put it.
0:16:54 > 0:16:58And what do the lucky new owners think?
0:16:58 > 0:17:01I thought it was very good for his first go,
0:17:01 > 0:17:04because he's not actually that old yet.
0:17:04 > 0:17:09I think he's got a long future of painting

0:17:15 > 0:17:19It doesn't matter that Pigasso weed and pooed on the canvas.
0:17:19 > 0:17:22He puts real body into his work. I couldn't have asked for better.
0:17:22 > 0:17:25As you see, like any great master when they've worked hard,
0:17:25 > 0:17:28he's absolutely shattered.
0:17:33 > 0:17:37- 'John, take one.'- Working with animals can get pretty silly.
0:17:37 > 0:17:40Check out these bloopers from me and my co-stars!
0:17:40 > 0:17:41Oh, my!
0:17:41 > 0:17:43You can lead a horse to...

0:18:03 > 0:18:06JOHN BURPS Sorry, that was a burger.
0:18:13 > 0:18:15Now we're off to Utah in America.
0:18:23 > 0:18:25Meet Kiyoshi, an akita.
0:18:25 > 0:18:30He's a dog with not one but two very special jobs.
0:18:30 > 0:18:33One of Kiyoshi's jobs is a nurse dog.
0:18:33 > 0:18:36Once a week he visits the local hospital with boss Kathy
0:18:36 > 0:18:39to help cheer up people waiting while their friends
0:18:39 > 0:18:42- and relatives have an operation.
0:18:42 > 0:18:46Hi, everyone. This is my akita, Kiyoshi.
0:18:46 > 0:18:49Fourteen year-old Josh is here with his grandmother.
0:18:49 > 0:18:54His mother is having an operation that will last most of the day.
0:18:54 > 0:18:57Kiyoshi is on hand to distract Josh
0:18:57 > 0:19:00as he gets to try out a few commands.
0:19:00 > 0:19:03- Kiyoshi, stand.- Oh.
0:19:03 > 0:19:05- OK, I get it.- This dog has been the best thing
0:19:05 > 0:19:07for Josh today, cos he's been upset.
0:19:07 > 0:19:11His mother is his whole life.
0:19:11 > 0:19:14They're just for each other, they're always there,
0:19:14 > 0:19:18so that dog right now has given him a real release.
0:19:18 > 0:19:23I'm certainly glad they brought it up here. It's been really good for him.
0:19:23 > 0:19:28Kiyoshi's favourite area of work is with children.
0:19:28 > 0:19:30If he spots a child, he often pulls Kathy over
0:19:30 > 0:19:32to them so he can help.
0:19:34 > 0:19:36Kiyoshi may be a bit of a couch potato
0:19:36 > 0:19:39but he seems to instinctively know what people need.
0:19:43 > 0:19:45Do you like dogs?
0:19:45 > 0:19:50Yes? Let me show you the softest part of him. Feel right there.
0:19:52 > 0:19:54Slowly, as Kiyoshi works the room,
0:19:54 > 0:19:59the atmosphere changes, thanks to this big, friendly dog.
0:20:01 > 0:20:05It's like all dull and stuff, and then when he came in here
0:20:05 > 0:20:07everybody, like, changed into happy, like,
0:20:07 > 0:20:09being happy and stuff, excited.
0:20:09 > 0:20:12Oh, he's found a new friend!
0:20:12 > 0:20:15After their morning at the hospital,
0:20:15 > 0:20:18Kiyoshi and Kathy get some good news.
0:20:20 > 0:20:23Josh's mother's surgery has gone well
0:20:23 > 0:20:25and she'll soon be in the recovery room.
0:20:25 > 0:20:28Kiyoshi gets some well-earned thanks.
0:20:34 > 0:20:38Then it's time for Kiyoshi to clock in for his second job,
0:20:38 > 0:20:40at the local primary school.
0:20:40 > 0:20:42Here he helps children read.
0:20:42 > 0:20:43Let's go!
0:20:45 > 0:20:48For these children, Kiyoshi is a reading assistant,
0:20:48 > 0:20:50and the books are right up his street.
0:20:50 > 0:20:53The Taxi Dog. That looks interesting.
0:20:53 > 0:20:56- The Smart Dog!- They have problems with their reading skills,
0:20:56 > 0:20:58and that's where Kiyoshi comes in.
0:21:00 > 0:21:02If an adult reads with a child
0:21:02 > 0:21:05they sometimes feel under pressure to get things right.
0:21:05 > 0:21:07But with a dog they're not so worried
0:21:07 > 0:21:12about saying words out loud and practising as long as they need to.
0:21:12 > 0:21:18What... What was going on in the investigation more like a raid...
0:21:18 > 0:21:21Kiyoshi's patience is endless
0:21:21 > 0:21:26and he enjoys being read to as much as they enjoy reading to him.
0:21:28 > 0:21:32This is the most... unusual situation...
0:21:32 > 0:21:36Lydia used to be far behind in her reading.
0:21:36 > 0:21:39Reading to an adult or classmate could never be as much fun
0:21:39 > 0:21:41as reading to Kiyoshi.
0:21:41 > 0:21:46Now reading has become one of Lydia's favourite activities.
0:21:46 > 0:21:49When she started in my class she didn't turn in any work.
0:21:49 > 0:21:52By the end of the term, she was turning in more things.
0:21:52 > 0:21:54She felt more open to express herself in writing
0:21:54 > 0:21:56and, you know, reading out loud.
0:21:56 > 0:22:00Although Lydia's reading has come on in leaps and bounds,
0:22:00 > 0:22:02it's still good to have Kiyoshi by her side.
0:22:02 > 0:22:06She's told me Kiyoshi's a very good listener, haven't you?
0:22:06 > 0:22:08And he doesn't play favourites.
0:22:08 > 0:22:12He's got time for everyone.
0:22:12 > 0:22:16So the paw-tograph... Oh, look! From Kiyoshi. Yay!
0:22:16 > 0:22:20An authentic paw-tograph!
0:22:20 > 0:22:24Thanks to all his hard work, Kiyoshi has become a local celebrity.
0:22:25 > 0:22:28Back at home, it's time to wind down.
0:22:28 > 0:22:32After all, he is a dog with two jobs.
0:22:38 > 0:22:42Next it's off to Felixstowe on the English coast.
0:22:45 > 0:22:49Today is the big day for canine crime-fighting duo Lucky and Flo.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53They've been sharpening their DVD sniffing skills in readiness
0:22:53 > 0:22:57for this - their first assignment in the UK.
0:22:57 > 0:23:01Here at Felixstowe docks, their target awaits -
0:23:01 > 0:23:03a warehouse as big as six tennis courts!
0:23:03 > 0:23:08It's full of cargo that may have illegal DVDs hidden inside.
0:23:08 > 0:23:10Today really is what the game's all about.
0:23:10 > 0:23:13Although they don't realize how crucial it is,
0:23:13 > 0:23:16what they're gonna be doing today is the end result
0:23:16 > 0:23:20of all the training, the selection and the build-up to it.
0:23:20 > 0:23:23Hopefully we'll get some success today.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26MUSIC: Theme from Knight Rider
0:23:28 > 0:23:32Although these are the top DVD dogs in the business,
0:23:32 > 0:23:35any new location can be a tough nut to crack.
0:23:38 > 0:23:42Flo's up first in the hunt for illegal DVDs.
0:23:42 > 0:23:46Will her steady approach work on the first part of this assignment,
0:23:46 > 0:23:48checking out these sacks?
0:23:51 > 0:23:54There's no freeze. She's not slowing down on anything.
0:23:54 > 0:23:57She's not showing an interest in anything.
0:23:57 > 0:24:01She's just covering the ground, searching what she needs to search,
0:24:01 > 0:24:02and then moving on.
0:24:04 > 0:24:06This is a top search dog hard at work.
0:24:06 > 0:24:10Flo's body language is telling Phil she hasn't found anything.
0:24:10 > 0:24:13If she does, she's trained to sit still,
0:24:13 > 0:24:16but Flo doesn't turn up any DVDs.
0:24:18 > 0:24:20Now it's Lucky's turn to do the second search,
0:24:20 > 0:24:23this time, in some boxes.
0:24:23 > 0:24:27Will she do any better with her high-energy tactics?
0:24:45 > 0:24:49What happened there is that she's completed the search
0:24:49 > 0:24:50and found nothing.
0:24:50 > 0:24:54The search for the pirate DVD goes on.
0:24:54 > 0:24:57With the sacks and boxes done, the last part of the assignment
0:24:57 > 0:24:59is to search a shipping container.
0:24:59 > 0:25:01This time Lucky's going in first.
0:25:01 > 0:25:04But before she does, Phil needs to check for any hidden dangers
0:25:04 > 0:25:07like sharp edges or rat poison.
0:25:09 > 0:25:12Safety check complete and, no surprise,
0:25:12 > 0:25:14Lucky's in there like a shot.
0:25:20 > 0:25:22Looks like she found something.
0:25:22 > 0:25:26She's giving me a bit of an indication on this box here.
0:25:26 > 0:25:29It's possible that there's some plastic fittings in it
0:25:29 > 0:25:32but it's possible there could be something else as well.
0:25:32 > 0:25:34Flo is sent in to double check.
0:25:49 > 0:25:53After a lot of careful checking and sniffing,
0:25:53 > 0:25:56Flo sits down to indicate that she's found something.
0:25:56 > 0:25:59She's showing the same thing so it could well be
0:25:59 > 0:26:01that there's some DVDs in there.
0:26:01 > 0:26:04The heat is on.
0:26:04 > 0:26:08Both dogs have now told Phil that there may be DVDs inside.
0:26:08 > 0:26:11All they can do now is wait with baited breath.
0:26:19 > 0:26:22This is the boxes that the dogs indicated.
0:26:22 > 0:26:26They're containing plastic polycarbonate brackets
0:26:26 > 0:26:29for the bathroom fittings.
0:26:29 > 0:26:30Unfortunately in the real world,
0:26:30 > 0:26:33the target odour that the dogs find is often found
0:26:33 > 0:26:34in other everyday items.
0:26:34 > 0:26:37The dog isn't wrong in this case but I can't reward 'em.
0:26:37 > 0:26:40I can't reward either Lucky or Flo for it
0:26:40 > 0:26:42because it's not the target odour that I'm looking for.
0:26:42 > 0:26:46Well, that's the problem with plastic like polycarbonate
0:26:46 > 0:26:48being in more than just DVDS.
0:26:48 > 0:26:52But the important thing is that they sniffed out the right smell.
0:26:52 > 0:26:55That proves these girls are right back on top form
0:26:55 > 0:26:59and they've done their job to secure this warehouse
0:26:59 > 0:27:00as an illegal-free zone.
0:27:07 > 0:27:11You might think this turtle is smart because he can play chess.
0:27:13 > 0:27:15Well, I'm considerably smarter!
0:27:15 > 0:27:18I usually win, two out of three.
0:27:20 > 0:27:21Could you hurry it up a little?
