0:00:02 > 0:00:05I'm John Barrowman with Animals At Work, the show where animals work.

0:00:05 > 0:00:09All over the planet, there are millions of animals that have jobs.

0:00:09 > 0:00:15Aargh! This is the show that brings you the funniest, coolest and most bizarre...

0:00:15 > 0:00:17- Moooo!- ..animals at work.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Here's what we've got for you.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Sue the Pig desperately needs to find a new job.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29This little pony works magic on children who are scared of horses.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33He's very, very gentle. He knows what his job is.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37And it's survival of the fastest, as the Fanimals go head-to-head with a hawk.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41The hawk is pretty fast. I think I'm faster than it.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44But now it's... DRUMROLL ..showtime!

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Time for another talented animal,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04and it's not me, ha ha!

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Come on, Ricky, we can finish the marathon.

0:01:13 > 0:01:18Let's head off to Herefordshire in England to meet our first animal at work.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Meet a very handsome boy called Sue.

0:01:25 > 0:01:30Yep, that's right. Poor Sue got stuck with a girl's name.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34# Well, life ain't easy for a boy named Sue #

0:01:34 > 0:01:36He is a little boy,

0:01:36 > 0:01:37even though he's called Sue.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38He's 12 months old.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41And he's a Kune Kune pig.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Sue currently works as a show pig.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47That means he represents his breed, the Kune Kune in modelling competitions.

0:01:47 > 0:01:52He gets to show off his Kune Kune tassels, which are called piri piri,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55his Kune Kune height, which is smaller than most pigs,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03and, most importantly, his Kune Kune charm.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06He's a bit of an ambassador for the breed, really.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09He shows people what lovely pigs Kune Kunes are

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and how clever they can be.

0:02:14 > 0:02:15Kune Kunes are very friendly,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17and Sue's no exception.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19He loves to hang out with his farm pals.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22There's fellow Kune Kune pig Bradley,

0:02:22 > 0:02:23the piglets,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25some chickens,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27and Bess the dog.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33But Sue can't rely on his personality for much longer.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37He's a year old, and he realises his looks won't last forever,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39and he can't be a show pig all his life.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43So Sue's facing up to reality. He needs to get a new job.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47But what's this pig named Sue to do?

0:02:49 > 0:02:50Sue looks creative.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Could he become an artist?

0:02:57 > 0:03:01No, like all pigs, Sue's colour blind. Oh, well.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03He's pretty good with heights.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Could he be an astronaut?

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Well, there's been chimpanzees, spiders,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12and even flies in space.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16But sadly, NASA have never wanted a pig for the job.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19What about acting?

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Could Sue become an actor?

0:03:22 > 0:03:27Again, it's a nice idea, but he's a bit too hammy. Ha ha ha!

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Come on, Sue, we need to be realistic. What can you do?

0:03:33 > 0:03:37Sue used to be quite agile. He was quite a runner when he was a piglet.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40Ah! Running! MUSIC: "Hallelujah" by G F Haendel

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Maybe running can be Sue's new career.

0:03:43 > 0:03:44When Sue was just a piglet,

0:03:44 > 0:03:48he showed an amazing ability to run an agility course.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51This is something that normally only dogs do,

0:03:51 > 0:03:54so it's certainly a special skill.

0:03:54 > 0:03:59- Right, come on.- Let's see if he still has what it takes. Come on, Sue, you can do this!

0:04:01 > 0:04:04A young Sue could fly over the ramp like a rocket.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07Now, well, ooh, he's a little shaky.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Good boy. And down.

0:04:09 > 0:04:15Take your time, Sue. Well, you know, you've got all day.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18Maybe Sue's just out of practice.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21Let's see how he handles the tunnel.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Well, that's not going so well, is it?

0:04:26 > 0:04:29He's at the final hurdle. Just one small leap for Sue.

0:04:31 > 0:04:32And...

0:04:38 > 0:04:39MUSIC: "Chariots of Fire" theme

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Jump the hurdle! Jump the hurdle! JUMP!

0:04:45 > 0:04:48This is a disaster. Oh, no, Sue. Even the dog's upset.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52As he's getting older, he's getting a little bit more slower,

0:04:52 > 0:04:55and not quite as enthusiastic as he was as a youngster.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59So I think it's fair to say that reviving his early athletic career

0:04:59 > 0:05:01is just not an option for Sue.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09But Wendy offers a glimmer of hope.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13As he gets older and becomes less able to do the tricks himself,

0:05:13 > 0:05:15hopefully he'll take up coaching

0:05:15 > 0:05:17and bring on some of the youngsters for us.

0:05:17 > 0:05:21That's a great idea! MUSIC: "Hallelujah" by G F Haendel

0:05:21 > 0:05:26With so many piglets on the farm, Sue could start a new career as a coach.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29But with this unruly bunch,

0:05:29 > 0:05:32finding the right student isn't going to be easy.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36Oh, Sue, looks like you've got a huge job ahead of you.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41Later, find out if Sue's attempt at a new coaching career is a success.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50We've been finding out what animals get up to on their days off.

0:05:50 > 0:05:54Check out this dog who's really bitten off more than he can chew.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57(DOG VOICE) Hey, is this a big ball or have I just shrunk?

0:05:57 > 0:06:00Hey, this isn't bad. I wanna bite it, I wanna bite it.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02Gimme the ball, gimme the ball!

0:06:05 > 0:06:08- And now those kids who love animals. It's the...- Fanimals, yes!

0:06:10 > 0:06:13And here they are, our animal detectives.

0:06:17 > 0:06:22Today, we'll be finding out who's quicker. Is it fanimal or animal?

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Meet Willow. He's a Harris Hawk.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28And this is his boss Karl.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32Harris Hawks originate in the Americas.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35Their wingspan can be over a metre.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39They're considered remarkable because they hunt in packs,

0:06:39 > 0:06:42which is very unusual for a bird.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44That's all well and good. But are they fast?

0:06:44 > 0:06:48And more to the point, are they faster than the fanimals?

0:06:50 > 0:06:53Today we're going to find out over a 60 metre dash.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57First we'll see how long it takes for the fanimals to cover the distance.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00Then we'll see how quickly Willow can do it.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02The quickest will be the winner.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05The fanimals are feeling confident.

0:07:05 > 0:07:09The hawk is pretty fast, but I think I'm faster than it.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12I'm going to go quite slowly at the beginning,

0:07:12 > 0:07:16then I'll run as fast as I can at the end and see where I end up.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20Well, I'll probably just try my hardest and just sprint all the way.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23The hawk can try, but he's not going to win.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28Ooh, unlike the fanimals, Willow doesn't go in for the big talk,

0:07:28 > 0:07:31but he is looking quietly confident.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33We'll soon find out.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37Despite the rain, the fanimals take to the line.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48All three are off the line quickly.

0:07:48 > 0:07:50It looks like Matthew's edging ahead

0:07:50 > 0:07:51in the right-hand lane.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54Bradley and Tia are pulling it back.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56Do they have a strong enough finish?

0:07:56 > 0:08:00They're storming along the straight. Yes, here they come! Who can it be?

0:08:00 > 0:08:03Matthew! Matthew was the first to cross the line

0:08:03 > 0:08:06with the others right on his heels.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09Well done, Fanimals. An amazing effort by the Fanimals.

0:08:09 > 0:08:129.6 seconds. That's very, very quick.

0:08:12 > 0:08:15So it's clear Matthew is the fastest fanimal.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17Next up, it's Willow.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20And the time he has to beat is 9.6 seconds.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23He's going to be covering our 60-metre course by flying

0:08:23 > 0:08:26between his assistant and Karl.

0:08:26 > 0:08:32Everyone's looking serious, and so they should. This is serious business.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36Willow's under starters' orders.

0:08:38 > 0:08:39It's hard to watch.

0:08:41 > 0:08:43- Here we go.- Willow!

0:08:43 > 0:08:46# Bird of prey

0:08:48 > 0:08:52# Take me on your flight

0:08:52 > 0:08:53# Flying high #

0:08:53 > 0:08:55What elegance.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Look at that wingspan!

0:08:58 > 0:09:01And landing.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04Now that everyone has done the dash,

0:09:04 > 0:09:07it's time to declare a winner.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Matthew was the fastest fanimal with 9.6 seconds.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12APPLAUSE

0:09:12 > 0:09:18And, sorry, Matthew, your time was no match for Willow's 5.2 seconds.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21You hawks sure know how to fly.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24Let's see it again.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27# Come fly with me

0:09:27 > 0:09:30# Let's fly, let's fly away #

0:09:34 > 0:09:36That is one graceful bird.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38Better luck next time, fanimals.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40This beast is the fastest for now.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50Now let's trot back to Herefordshire in England.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55Earlier, we met a very unusual male pig.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57For starters, he's got a girl's name.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00He is a little boy, even though he's called Sue.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03That's right. He's called Sue.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05But that's not all that makes Sue different.

0:10:05 > 0:10:09He's a Kune Kune pig, which means he's shorter than normal pigs,

0:10:09 > 0:10:13and he has these attractive tassels which are called piri piri.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Sue's got the ideal job for such a handsome swine.

0:10:18 > 0:10:22He's a show pig, taking part in competitions showing off his good looks.

0:10:22 > 0:10:25You go, girl! I mean, boy.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29But at the ripe old age of one, Sue's looks aren't what they were.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31The time has come for him to find a new job.

0:10:31 > 0:10:33In his young, well, younger days,

0:10:33 > 0:10:35he was quite an athlete.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38But those days are behind him so there's no job there.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40Sue's now pinned his hopes on

0:10:40 > 0:10:44working with the champion show pigs of the future by becoming a coach.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46Perfect. There's a show in two days.

0:10:46 > 0:10:52Think how amazing it would be if Sue could coach one of his young friends to glory.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54It sounds like a great plan,

0:10:54 > 0:10:58but first, Sue needs to find the perfect piggy pupil.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00Come and train these children. Come on.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02There's lots of possibilities.

0:11:02 > 0:11:07I'm quite hoping the younger piglets will learn by copying Sue.

0:11:07 > 0:11:11But with this unruly bunch, finding the right student will take work.

0:11:11 > 0:11:15# A, B, C, easy as 1, 2, 3 #

0:11:15 > 0:11:20First up, Sue's going to give Sniff a try at the high jump.

0:11:21 > 0:11:26Um, you know, maybe that's a little too high for a pig like you.

0:11:26 > 0:11:27Sorry, Sniff.

0:11:27 > 0:11:32Next up, Sue is showing Dopey how to tackle the ramp.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36Dopey, you should be paying attention to this.

0:11:36 > 0:11:38Ooh, he's off to a good start.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42But this piggy's in a world of his own.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47Oh, Sue, what's a pig to do?

0:11:48 > 0:11:50We've got one last chance with Spotty,

0:11:50 > 0:11:53who'll be taking a shot at the tunnel.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55That a boy! Keep it coming.

0:11:55 > 0:11:56Nice work, Spotty!

0:11:56 > 0:11:58CHEERING

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Hey! You made it through!

0:12:00 > 0:12:02ALARM

0:12:02 > 0:12:03Oh, wait, scratch that.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06You can't pee on the agility course.

0:12:06 > 0:12:07Yuck!

0:12:07 > 0:12:11Those piglets are just too immature to take this seriously.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15Maybe Sue's hopes of a coaching career have collapsed already.

0:12:15 > 0:12:16This is a disaster for Sue.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20But wait. There's one more pig.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22Sue's buddy Bradley.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26Behind Sue, he's the hottest pig on the farm.

0:12:26 > 0:12:31# Don't you ever stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome #

0:12:31 > 0:12:34With Sue's specialist training and Bradley's raw talent,

0:12:34 > 0:12:36this might just be onto a winner.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Come on, get up, Sue.

0:12:39 > 0:12:40There's no time to waste.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44There's a competition, and if you're going to make a new career,

0:12:44 > 0:12:46you need to start training Bradley.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Bradley needs all the help he can get

0:12:51 > 0:12:53so Sue starts him on the basics,

0:12:53 > 0:12:55but Bradley's not really paying attention.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58We want Bradley to just walk sedately around the ring

0:12:58 > 0:13:01so the judge can see what he looks like,

0:13:01 > 0:13:03whether his legs are straight.

0:13:03 > 0:13:07It's starting to work. Bradley is copying Sue's every move.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Go, Bradley, go!

0:13:09 > 0:13:15What he's doing now is just what we want. Just a sedate, slow walk.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17Bradley's doing wonderfully for a beginner.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20I think he's a little star.

0:13:20 > 0:13:24Bradley's really getting the hang of this, and it's obvious who to thank.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26Sue's a great help, really.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28He's a good, calming influence.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30I'm hoping he'll follow Sue's example.

0:13:30 > 0:13:34This is amazing news. Sue has real talent as a coach.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36Could it be with Sue's coaching,

0:13:36 > 0:13:39Bradley's got a chance at the upcoming pig show?

0:13:39 > 0:13:44I would hope that he's going to be noticed by the judge, but we'll see.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49The competition's around the corner,

0:13:49 > 0:13:50and there's plenty at stake.

0:13:50 > 0:13:54If Bradley wins, Sue's proven his career choice was the right one.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57Failure, and Sue's career is in tatters.

0:14:00 > 0:14:04Later, it's the most important pig show of Sue's life.

0:14:09 > 0:14:14We've been searching to find out what your animals get up to on their days off.

0:14:14 > 0:14:18Check out this parrot who's found a game that's right up his alley.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20It's the perfect strike.

0:14:20 > 0:14:21He's really a knock-out.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24And again. And again.

0:14:24 > 0:14:25OK, that's enough.

0:14:25 > 0:14:28This guy's just bowling me over. Ha ha ha!

0:14:33 > 0:14:37And now we're off to Oahu, Hawaii in the USA.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44# It's a kind of magic #

0:14:44 > 0:14:48Meet Magic, a miniature horse with a big job.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50Magic's a beach pony unlike any other.

0:14:50 > 0:14:54He specialises in giving children their first ever horse ride.

0:14:59 > 0:15:03His job in life is to give a great experience to children,

0:15:03 > 0:15:06to make them feel good about being on a horse

0:15:06 > 0:15:09and having the horse experience.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Magic's perfect for his job,

0:15:11 > 0:15:14because although he looks like a regular horse,

0:15:14 > 0:15:17he's actually small, (LITTLE VOICE) very small.

0:15:17 > 0:15:21In fact, he's about the height of an average toddler.

0:15:22 > 0:15:25Normally, full-size horses are about 183cm tall,

0:15:25 > 0:15:29but Magic is a mere 76cm.

0:15:29 > 0:15:31That's really tiny.

0:15:31 > 0:15:37I think a regular-size horse would weigh about 1,200 pounds,

0:15:37 > 0:15:42and Magic is about, I would say, 230 pounds.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45Being so small, Magic is the ideal size for little kids

0:15:45 > 0:15:49with no experience of riding big horses.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52I think he actually becomes even more gentle,

0:15:52 > 0:15:54as he knows that this is his purpose,

0:15:54 > 0:15:58to make children smile and to give them the experience of a small horse.

0:15:58 > 0:16:02But it's not just his size that makes Magic ideal for his job.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04Magic just loves children.

0:16:04 > 0:16:09# Wake up, it's a beautiful morning #

0:16:09 > 0:16:12And children aren't the only thing Magic loves.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15# Let's go surfing now, everybody's learning how #

0:16:15 > 0:16:17He's also mad for the beaches,

0:16:17 > 0:16:20which makes him the luckiest little horse in the world,

0:16:20 > 0:16:24as here in Hawaii, he gets the most amazing beaches on the planet.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26Don't be fooled, though.

0:16:26 > 0:16:30Despite the tropical location, Magic has no time to relax in the shade.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32He's one busy pony.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38Mornings can be quite chaotic, as Magic lives with a bunch of friends

0:16:38 > 0:16:40who can be a rowdy old lot.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43There's fellow horse Mystic,

0:16:43 > 0:16:45and check out these guys.

0:16:45 > 0:16:49It's miniature goats, Stewart, Nicolas and Pearl.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52Miniature goats make excellent companion animals,

0:16:52 > 0:16:54as they're apparently a very calming influence.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58It's a good job, as someone needs to be around here.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00And look at these pooches.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02They're miniature Italian greyhounds.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05Here's Blaze, that's Angus, and this is Boomer.

0:17:07 > 0:17:08Er, Magic,

0:17:08 > 0:17:11if you want to get to the beach today,

0:17:11 > 0:17:14you don't have time to give this canine cowboy a ride.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16One final check before you leave.

0:17:16 > 0:17:20After all, it's vitally important that a beach pony looks his best.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23Nice traditional costume you're wearing there, mister.

0:17:23 > 0:17:27We put on this beautiful lei so he looks very Hawaiian and happy.

0:17:27 > 0:17:29Yes, yes, Magic, you look just great.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31Now, can we please get going?

0:17:31 > 0:17:35There's children waiting for you and you need to get to work.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37Finally, Magic's off.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39Wonder what today has in store.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Maybe he'll get to go for a paddle in the sea.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51Magic's in demand before he even gets to the beach,

0:17:51 > 0:17:56and of course, Magic fulfills his obligations and stops to be petted.

0:17:56 > 0:17:57Look how gentle he is.

0:17:57 > 0:18:02It's very important to be this well-behaved when you're working with small children.

0:18:02 > 0:18:05Being a bucking bronco is not an option.

0:18:05 > 0:18:09OK, Magic, enough's enough. You have to get to work, remember?

0:18:09 > 0:18:12Come on, mate, trot on.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20And finally he gets to the sand.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22This guy is one beach pony.

0:18:23 > 0:18:25He looks so at home here.

0:18:27 > 0:18:31But wait, there don't seem to be any children on this beach. Disaster.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37Magic takes a closer look.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41Ooh, panic over.

0:18:41 > 0:18:45Here are some children. It's not going to be a wasted day.

0:18:45 > 0:18:48And without further ado, Magic gets to work.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50Hi, who's this?

0:18:53 > 0:18:58Look at the pleasure this pocket- sized pony is giving the children.

0:19:08 > 0:19:12Magic is quite the character, and a well-known face on the island.

0:19:12 > 0:19:16He's definitely a hit with all the kids and tourists alike.

0:19:16 > 0:19:21He likes me and he knows who I am.

0:19:21 > 0:19:23Say "cheese", Magic.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27Well, Magic, another great day at work.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29But can you really call it hard work

0:19:29 > 0:19:32when the weather and scenery are this spectacular?

0:19:32 > 0:19:37And off Magic goes to tell all his mates about his busy day as a beach pony.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43It's not just today that animals have had jobs.

0:19:43 > 0:19:45In fact, history reveals that in the past,

0:19:45 > 0:19:48they've had even more amazing jobs than today.

0:19:48 > 0:19:52And here are those History's Heroes.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55Hello. I'm Professor John Bumbleman,

0:19:56 > 0:19:59the world's greatest animal historian.

0:19:59 > 0:20:04Now, over the years, there have been many, many, many, many, many, many

0:20:04 > 0:20:07many, many wonderful animals

0:20:07 > 0:20:10who've held down incredibly important jobs.

0:20:10 > 0:20:15These brilliant beasties have put their hairy, furry and scaly necks

0:20:15 > 0:20:21on the line all in the name of good, old-fashioned hard work.

0:20:23 > 0:20:28Today we're looking at the secretive world of undercover agents.

0:20:30 > 0:20:32Our first anonymous animal was Fred the Cat,

0:20:32 > 0:20:36who did a one-off job for the New York City Police Department.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40His mission started when the police contacted him

0:20:40 > 0:20:44about a man who was posing illegally as a veterinarian.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48The boys in blue couldn't catch this criminal in the act,

0:20:48 > 0:20:50so drafted in Fred.

0:20:51 > 0:20:53With the help of an human partner,

0:20:53 > 0:20:55the undercover kitty pretended to be sick.

0:20:55 > 0:20:57COUGHING

0:20:57 > 0:21:01Together, they exposed this man who didn't know how to treat animals

0:21:01 > 0:21:02and wasn't a real vet.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05Fred retired soon after that

0:21:05 > 0:21:08and re-trained as a hospital carer.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11We can't reveal any more, as his identity is now protected.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18To be a good undercover agent,

0:21:18 > 0:21:20you need excellent survival skills,

0:21:20 > 0:21:26and in that department, no human spy could beat Old Rip the Horned Toad.

0:21:28 > 0:21:33In 1896, Old Rip was rudely placed inside the cornerstone

0:21:33 > 0:21:37of a courthouse in Texas as part of a time capsule.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40Despite the stupidity of the humans who did this,

0:21:40 > 0:21:45Old Rip lasted out the ordeal for an incredible 31 years.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48His survival trick was hibernation.

0:21:49 > 0:21:54Old Rip deservedly became something of a celebrity in the state of Texas,

0:21:54 > 0:21:56and spent the rest of his life touring

0:21:56 > 0:21:58so that ordinary people could meet

0:21:58 > 0:22:01the greatest survival expert of all time.

0:22:03 > 0:22:05I can hide better than Old Rip.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Can you see me? Can you see me?

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Ahem.

0:22:10 > 0:22:12And finally, History's Heroes can reveal

0:22:12 > 0:22:14an unbelievable but true mission

0:22:14 > 0:22:17to train cats to spy on the Russians.

0:22:17 > 0:22:19In the late sixties,

0:22:19 > 0:22:24America's spy agency, the CIA, had an idea. Ting!

0:22:24 > 0:22:28They thought it would be clever to rig up a cat with a microphone

0:22:28 > 0:22:31and put an antennae in its tail.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33Really!

0:22:33 > 0:22:36The plan was that the cat could sneak around unnoticed

0:22:36 > 0:22:39and listen in on secret spy news.

0:22:39 > 0:22:43They called it Operation Acoustic Kitty.

0:22:43 > 0:22:45But the scheme didn't go well.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48The spy cat kept wandering off to look for food.

0:22:48 > 0:22:49Yummy, yummy.

0:22:49 > 0:22:53So in 1967, the operation was abandoned.

0:22:53 > 0:22:56These cats may not have made the best spies,

0:22:57 > 0:22:59but when they were around,

0:22:59 > 0:23:02the Russians never had any problems with mice.

0:23:02 > 0:23:03Ha ha ha! Miaw miaw.

0:23:03 > 0:23:08And that concludes this week's History's Heroes.

0:23:11 > 0:23:13COUGHING

0:23:17 > 0:23:20Now we're heading back to Herefordshire in England.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27Earlier we met a boy named Sue.

0:23:27 > 0:23:32Sue used to be a show pig travelling the country starring in pig shows,

0:23:32 > 0:23:34but at the old age of one, his looks have faded,

0:23:34 > 0:23:37which means it's time to get a new job.

0:23:37 > 0:23:39After toying with other possibilities,

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Sue's decided to turn his trotter

0:23:41 > 0:23:44to helping champion show pigs of the future,

0:23:44 > 0:23:45by becoming a show pig coach.

0:23:45 > 0:23:47WHISTLE

0:23:47 > 0:23:50Sue's first trainee is a handsome hog named Bradley.

0:23:50 > 0:23:54Sue's taught Bradley the essentials of show pig competing.

0:23:54 > 0:23:56Walking tall and proudly.

0:23:56 > 0:24:01Bradley got to grips with things quickly, which is a good job,

0:24:01 > 0:24:05as today, he'll be taking part in his first competition.

0:24:05 > 0:24:07If Bradley's successful in today's show,

0:24:07 > 0:24:09then Sue's got a new job.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12If Bradley fails, then Sue's career is over.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17It's the day of the competition.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19There's a lot riding on this.

0:24:19 > 0:24:23For coach Sue's sake, Bradley must put on a good show.

0:24:23 > 0:24:28Although Bradley is nervous, Sue is sticking with him every step of the way.

0:24:28 > 0:24:32Sue has been helping Bradley along with getting ready this morning.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34He travelled with him in the lorry,

0:24:34 > 0:24:36looked after him all the way here,

0:24:36 > 0:24:38slept with him last night, too.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41I think Sue has a very relaxing influence on him.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Sue looks pretty relaxed himself.

0:24:44 > 0:24:45Competition is fierce.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48There are piggies here from all across the land.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51It's a bit of a wake-up call for Bradley,

0:24:51 > 0:24:55as these are Kate Hogs and Naomi Hambells of the piggy world.

0:24:55 > 0:24:59But with Sue by his side, Bradley has plenty to be confident about.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01When Brad goes into his class,

0:25:01 > 0:25:03he'll be judged on beauty, really.

0:25:03 > 0:25:05Now, I think Bradley is very nice,

0:25:05 > 0:25:08but then I'm not the judge.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10If Sue's done his job properly,

0:25:10 > 0:25:12Bradley will behave himself.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15Unlike some of the other naughty porkers backstage.

0:25:16 > 0:25:20Just to be sure that everything is in tip-top shape,

0:25:20 > 0:25:23Sue takes Bradley out for some last-minute grooming

0:25:23 > 0:25:26to make him even more handsome for the judges.

0:25:26 > 0:25:30He's really enjoyed being groomed, bathed, stroked, scratched,

0:25:30 > 0:25:33they love all this attention, don't you, hey?

0:25:33 > 0:25:37A little bit of oil behind your ears to make you look beautiful.

0:25:37 > 0:25:38Good boy.

0:25:38 > 0:25:40And shine your little snout up, too.

0:25:40 > 0:25:42And while Bradley's in make-up,

0:25:42 > 0:25:46Sue can only wait nervously with Wendy's daughter Lucy.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50Sue has a big influence over Bradley's career.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53I think Bradley does stand a big chance of winning

0:25:53 > 0:25:56because he's a strapping little piglet.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58Sue's just whispered in his ear.

0:25:58 > 0:26:02Sit down nicely, Bradley. Smile your best smile.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04And don't wee-wee in the ring.

0:26:04 > 0:26:06It's show pig time.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09But Sue's too nervous to watch.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12He heads back to his pen to await the final result.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24There are some good-looking piggies in this competition.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26Oh, yeah.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31And the judge takes a good look at Bradley.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35But who will be deemed the fairest pig of them all?

0:26:37 > 0:26:39And in first place,...

0:26:39 > 0:26:41Oh, no! Bradley's not won.

0:26:41 > 0:26:44It goes to the white boar.

0:26:44 > 0:26:46And in second place,...

0:26:47 > 0:26:48it's Bradley!

0:26:48 > 0:26:51Well done, you pretty little piggy!

0:26:51 > 0:26:54Sue's ecstatic and can't wait to greet Bradley

0:26:54 > 0:26:57with some celebratory hogs and kisses.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01# Rain or shine, you've stood by me, girl

0:27:01 > 0:27:06# I'm happy at home, you're my best friend #

0:27:06 > 0:27:09He didn't win, but he did very well.

0:27:09 > 0:27:11He came second and he behaved impeccably.

0:27:11 > 0:27:14I think Sue will be very impressed with that.

0:27:14 > 0:27:18Well done, Sue. You've done a crackling job at coaching Bradley.

0:27:18 > 0:27:22Your little trainee success means you now have a new career.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24And Brad Pig?

0:27:24 > 0:27:25With Sue's continued help,

0:27:25 > 0:27:30you might have a promising career yourself in Hoggywood.

0:27:30 > 0:27:31Ha ha!

0:27:34 > 0:27:37Er, that's all from Animals At Work.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40John said he had to go and see a man about a dog.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42Sounds a bit fishy if you ask me.

0:27:42 > 0:27:43Hmm, see you next time.
