0:00:02 > 0:00:05I'm Ricky. I live in Bristol.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07By day, I work as an animator...

0:00:07 > 0:00:10which is lucky, cos I love art.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13I live for art, I even dream of art.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15I draw...

0:00:15 > 0:00:16I paint...

0:00:17 > 0:00:19..I make things!

0:00:21 > 0:00:26I hang out with my mates, Gavin, Michelle and Sarah.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29Most importantly, I make ninja moves.

0:00:29 > 0:00:30Some people call me the...

0:00:34 > 0:00:38Today, I'll show you how to make fantastic fingerless gloves

0:00:38 > 0:00:40without knitting...

0:00:40 > 0:00:42disguise your eyes with Go To Sleep glasses...

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Shades!

0:00:44 > 0:00:48..and I get arty to surprise my mate Sarah at her party,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50because today it's...

0:00:55 > 0:00:56ALARM BEEPS

0:00:56 > 0:00:59- HE SIGHS - It's a new day, and it's...

0:00:59 > 0:01:01time to get my ninja on!

0:01:03 > 0:01:04And my clothes.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Hah! Huh! Heh!

0:01:30 > 0:01:33I can't help feeling I've forgotten something.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36HE GASPS

0:01:36 > 0:01:37PHONE RINGS

0:01:37 > 0:01:40- Mum?- 'Hello, mate.'- Oh, hi, Gavin.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43- 'Where have you been all weekend?' - What do you mean? It's Friday.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46'No, it's Monday and you MISSED Sarah's birthday!'

0:01:46 > 0:01:48No way!

0:01:48 > 0:01:49KNOCK ON DOOR

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Dude, got to go, there's someone at the door.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53Who is it?

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Ricky, it's Sarah, are you OK? We're all really worried about you.

0:01:56 > 0:02:02Ricky's not here right now. Your call is important to us.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04If you'd like to leave a message after the beep,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05he'll get back to you.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08Ricky, don't be weird, a door can't have an answer phone.

0:02:08 > 0:02:09Beep!

0:02:09 > 0:02:12OK, if you're going to play that game... I'm gutted you

0:02:12 > 0:02:16missed my birthday and just give me a call when you're there. Bye.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21I'm a bit gutted. Sarah's lovely.

0:02:21 > 0:02:26I know, I'll make her a present - maybe some fingerless gloves.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30But as I can't knit, I'll make some without knitting.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35The Art Ninja knit-free fingerless gloves.

0:02:35 > 0:02:40So I've got myself an old sticky tape loop - it's all finished -

0:02:40 > 0:02:44and ten lolly sticks, and I'm going to lay them down

0:02:44 > 0:02:47just over a finger's width apart.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Great. Now I'm going to get out some sticky tape.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Take a good length.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59I'm going to lay it about a third of the way down the lolly sticks

0:02:59 > 0:03:01and just make sure all of them are stuck,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03without sticking to the table.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05There we go.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Turn it over so the sticky side is facing up

0:03:07 > 0:03:10and I'm going to roll my sticky tape loop across them.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13OK, it's picked it up.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17There we go, perfect.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20So all of these now are at equal distance

0:03:20 > 0:03:24around the sticky tape loop, and this will become my loom.

0:03:24 > 0:03:28Cool. Now I'm going to take my wool...

0:03:28 > 0:03:32and just put a little bit of the length through the loop, and then

0:03:32 > 0:03:37I'm going to wrap it round each of the lolly sticks, like this.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39Wrap and loop, wrap and loop.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42Now, I'm wrapping these loops around quite loose...

0:03:42 > 0:03:45as I need the tension to be loose for the next step.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52OK, now the fun bit.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55Got a loop around every single lolly stick

0:03:55 > 0:03:58and I'm going to do a loop around the first one I did,

0:03:58 > 0:03:59and then...

0:03:59 > 0:04:02pull the bottom loop over the top loop and down the other side

0:04:02 > 0:04:04of the lolly stick.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07This is where all the stitches and the loops start to interlock.

0:04:07 > 0:04:12Every time I make a new loop, the bottom loop goes over the top of it,

0:04:12 > 0:04:13tying the whole thing together.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16And eventually it will start flowing through

0:04:16 > 0:04:18the middle of our tube, like that.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22Now this can take a little while,

0:04:22 > 0:04:24so I'm going to do it at ninja speed.

0:04:28 > 0:04:30Using thicker wool gets you quicker results

0:04:30 > 0:04:32as it starts to build up faster.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38Nearly there now.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Right, that's looking pretty good.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47You can see how it's all come together through the loom.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50Even though the technique isn't traditional knitting,

0:04:50 > 0:04:52the end result looks pretty convincing.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Now I need to get it off my makeshift loom.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57I can't just pull it off cos it'll drop all these stitches

0:04:57 > 0:05:01and the whole thing would unravel, so I need to cast it off properly.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04So I'm going to get a good length of wool...

0:05:06 > 0:05:08..and cut it.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14And now I'm going to post the thread through each of my loops.

0:05:14 > 0:05:15So, pull the loop up...

0:05:17 > 0:05:19..post the loose thread through it.

0:05:21 > 0:05:22Pull it through like that,

0:05:22 > 0:05:25and I can slide that entire loop off of the loom.

0:05:25 > 0:05:27There we go, now move on to the next one.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29Lift up the loop...

0:05:29 > 0:05:31and push it through.

0:05:31 > 0:05:36And you can see it gradually coming off the loom as we cast it off.

0:05:38 > 0:05:39Last one.

0:05:44 > 0:05:45Look at that.

0:05:47 > 0:05:48Looks great.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Tie a knot in the loose ends of the wool so that they don't unravel.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56There we go, get rid of that bit.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58So now I've got one...

0:05:58 > 0:06:01but I need to ninja myself another one.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06There we go. Right, might as well try 'em on.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09When you get to the end, about there,

0:06:09 > 0:06:13find a little hole in the stitch, pop your thumb through.

0:06:13 > 0:06:14There we are.

0:06:14 > 0:06:18I think Sarah's going to be really happy with these.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Now, you don't just have to make green ones, you can

0:06:20 > 0:06:23change colours to create a stripy pattern

0:06:23 > 0:06:26and you can experiment with different size looms,

0:06:26 > 0:06:29like this cake tin I've used to make this rad hat.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33Knitting without needles - you need to get involved in this.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36I'm sure that picture moves on its own.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39It's almost as if it's animated.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50Oh, yeah!

0:06:50 > 0:06:52I'm going to show you a trick that'll get your animations running

0:06:52 > 0:06:54rings around the rest.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57I'm going to teach you the secret of the memo note free runner.

0:06:57 > 0:06:58Things you'll need are...

0:06:58 > 0:07:02a pen, a book of memo notes, a camera and a computer.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05Or, if you've got a tablet with one of those animation apps,

0:07:05 > 0:07:06that's pretty good too.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10Here's how to work it in three ninja moves.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12Ninja move number one.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14I'm going to put a memo note straight on the wall,

0:07:14 > 0:07:16being really careful not to draw on the wall,

0:07:16 > 0:07:18and I'm going to sketch the first frame of my character.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21So, head, just a nice, big, round body, and then, when you're going to

0:07:21 > 0:07:24draw a person running, I always start sort of mid-run.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26When you run, you run in alternates like this,

0:07:26 > 0:07:30so I'm going to have a leg forward and a leg back, and then,

0:07:30 > 0:07:32if the right leg's forward, I'm going to put the left arm forward

0:07:32 > 0:07:35and the right arm back. So that's the first frame.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37That's kind of a good guide.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40Ooh, that's me!

0:07:40 > 0:07:44Try watching people run just to get a good guide for how they move.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Good observation usually leads to good animation.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49And now I'm going to put another memo note over it.

0:07:49 > 0:07:50I can see the frame from before -

0:07:50 > 0:07:52that can be my guide for the next drawing,

0:07:52 > 0:07:55and it looks like his foot's about to land on the floor,

0:07:55 > 0:07:57and it'll probably land about there,

0:07:57 > 0:07:59so that is going to be my starting point here.

0:07:59 > 0:08:03Then I'm going to draw a nice head,

0:08:03 > 0:08:05round belly, and the way it would have landed,

0:08:05 > 0:08:07got a slight bend in the knee now

0:08:07 > 0:08:10and his other leg probably would have brought forward.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13Arm goes down, other arm goes down as well.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15Another note on top, and you already see

0:08:15 > 0:08:17he's starting to move across the wall.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20I've got this foot on the floor, and this means I'm going to keep

0:08:20 > 0:08:22this foot where it is. This is a really important point,

0:08:22 > 0:08:26because if you make a run cycle and a person puts a foot down but keeps

0:08:26 > 0:08:29moving, it just looks ridiculous, like he's sliding across the floor.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32And unless he's on ice, which this guy's not, it doesn't work.

0:08:32 > 0:08:36I'm taking a photograph after each drawn memo note

0:08:36 > 0:08:38to create my animation.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Ninja move number two.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45Once you've drawn your character and you've drawn your running frames

0:08:45 > 0:08:49and you get back to a frame where it's kind of where he started...

0:08:49 > 0:08:51So, the same leg's forward and the same leg's back,

0:08:51 > 0:08:54it's at this point you can do a little bit of a sneaky cheat,

0:08:54 > 0:08:58and that is reaching to the back and bringing that frame forward,

0:08:58 > 0:09:01put over the front, cos now we're into an animation loop.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03An animation loop is the loop of frames.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05It finishes where it begins,

0:09:05 > 0:09:07which means you can continually re-use them.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11And this is good because you can make your character run for ever!

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Ninja move number three.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17Now your character can run, you can

0:09:17 > 0:09:20control the distance which they travel - basically, their speed.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22So if you look at here, if I want to make him move faster

0:09:22 > 0:09:25and bound further away, I can just push the memo note further away

0:09:25 > 0:09:28till you can NEARLY see the other frame, but not quite.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30That's going to work really well.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35So use your three ninja moves, use your imagination

0:09:35 > 0:09:39and get your memo note free runner running around your room.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41Ready, steady, go!

0:09:41 > 0:09:42STARTING GUN FIRES

0:09:54 > 0:09:57A really quick, fun animation. Have a go yourself.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08I'm going to plan something to make up for me missing Sarah's birthday.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11She deserves a treat - she's had a lot on her plate recently.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13Not party food, unfortunately!

0:10:13 > 0:10:17I know, I'll use one of the clean plates to make a Banksy-style

0:10:17 > 0:10:19stencil of a skateboarder.

0:10:19 > 0:10:20Did I hear my name?!

0:10:21 > 0:10:25It is I, Banksy, master of disguise! Whoa-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho!

0:10:25 > 0:10:27Look, I'm a cocktail sausage.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30And now I'm a pineapple chunk.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Usually, I'm a graffiti artist from Bristol. Your manor, Ricky.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37I do street art, mostly, but I've done album covers, I've done a title

0:10:37 > 0:10:41sequence for The Simpsons and I've even painted on a real elephant.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45I usually spray my graffiti through stencils.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Here's one of my famous pictures now.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50For somebody who loves secrecy, you don't half go on about yourself.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54If I'm going to make a stencil,

0:10:54 > 0:10:56I'm going to need a good background first.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58I've got an old bit of cardboard here.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01I'm going to give it a bit of a grey wash.

0:11:02 > 0:11:06There we go. We brush the paint around.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09I want a kind of messy, anarchic finish to it.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11So it looks like a wall!

0:11:11 > 0:11:13Yeah, that's looking good.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15Maybe some white paint splats on it.

0:11:15 > 0:11:17There it goes.

0:11:23 > 0:11:24Yeah, look at that!

0:11:24 > 0:11:26Ooh, better not get it on the food!

0:11:28 > 0:11:32Nice. Think I'll have a couple of black splats as well.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38Definitely put paper down with this one. Yeah!

0:11:38 > 0:11:42I'm going to put it to the side to dry while I draw my stencil.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45Think I'll draw my skateboarder mid-trick.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48Of course, you don't have to draw a skateboarder,

0:11:48 > 0:11:50you can draw anything you like!

0:11:50 > 0:11:53Right, I'm going to cut that out, so I'm going to put some modelling

0:11:53 > 0:11:56clay down first, then just pierce that hole for my scissors.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58There we go.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Get my scissors in there and cut it out.

0:12:00 > 0:12:04Notice how I haven't joined up the front foot to the skateboard?

0:12:04 > 0:12:06If I did that, I'd lose this area here.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08It needs to be able to touch the outside.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12To the arm, and there we go.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14And there's my skateboarder stencil, ready to go.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Right, put my stencil, I reckon, about there,

0:12:17 > 0:12:20and I'm going to use a nice big brush

0:12:20 > 0:12:22to block it in with a bit of black.

0:12:23 > 0:12:28Banksy would use spray paint, but try this, it really works!

0:12:28 > 0:12:30I'm just holding this little flat bit here in place

0:12:30 > 0:12:34cos the brush and the paint might move it and smudge the picture.

0:12:37 > 0:12:38Time for the reveal.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41Ah, yeah, skateboarder!

0:12:41 > 0:12:44I'm going to flip the plate over and do another one down here,

0:12:44 > 0:12:47and I'll pop the plate in the other way.

0:12:47 > 0:12:48There we are.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53Right, here we go.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58Yeah, another skateboarder! Rad!

0:12:58 > 0:13:01I think that looks awesome! I'm really happy with that.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04My very own Banksy. Or should I say, Ricksy.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07Did I ever tell you about the time when I played a prank

0:13:07 > 0:13:11by sneaking my paintings into the Tate Modern and the Louvre in Paris?

0:13:11 > 0:13:16No... But that has given me an idea for Sarah's party.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18Why not try a stencil inspired by Banksy?

0:13:20 > 0:13:22PHONE RINGS

0:13:22 > 0:13:25Oh! I'd best not answer that, it might be Sarah.

0:13:25 > 0:13:26ANSWERPHONE BEEPS

0:13:26 > 0:13:28'Hi, Ricky, it's your mum!

0:13:28 > 0:13:31'Sarah called earlier - I hope you didn't miss her birthday!

0:13:31 > 0:13:35'Anyway, Ricky, just wanted to tell you there's loads of other

0:13:35 > 0:13:36'stuff not to miss.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39'Keep your eyes open for these specs-tacular glasses,

0:13:39 > 0:13:43'"shave" the best for later with art using shaving foam,

0:13:43 > 0:13:46'and you become art itself at the gallery.

0:13:46 > 0:13:47'Bye!'

0:13:47 > 0:13:51I'd better get on with Sarah's party or I'll miss her next birthday too!

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Hey, you there!

0:13:53 > 0:13:57Oh, this guy's such a chancer.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00The future's so bright, I have to wear shades.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02"Why?" I heard you ask.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04I didn't say anything!

0:14:04 > 0:14:07Ever been in class but can't keep your eyes open?

0:14:07 > 0:14:09Ever made...

0:14:09 > 0:14:11a spectacle of yourself?

0:14:11 > 0:14:18Now YOU can disguise your eyes with brand-new Go To Sleep Shades.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20Here's how you make them.

0:14:20 > 0:14:25You need some black card and a white pencil.

0:14:25 > 0:14:28Use it to draw around the front of your glasses...

0:14:28 > 0:14:30onto the card.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32Turn your glasses so you can draw around the arms.

0:14:35 > 0:14:39Now draw some lenses inside the frames you've already drawn.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44Next, get some scissors - snippy-snippy -

0:14:44 > 0:14:48and, with care, cut out the glasses from the card.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51Please get rid of your excess card - ahem - responsibly.

0:14:51 > 0:14:55You need a small piece of modelling clay and your pencil

0:14:55 > 0:14:58to safety poke holes in the lenses.

0:14:58 > 0:15:03Use these holes to help you cut out the lenses with your scissors.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05It's not over yet.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09You'll need to make another pair in much the same way as demonstrated.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11"Eye-eye."

0:15:12 > 0:15:16Now, using a camera or smartphone, take a couple of selfies -

0:15:16 > 0:15:19one with your eyes open and one with your eyes closed.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24A very good likeness.

0:15:26 > 0:15:30Next, send these pictures to print.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32Wait, who's this guy?

0:15:32 > 0:15:35I don't remember taking those!

0:15:35 > 0:15:37Oh, well, they'll do.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41Now, using a pencil, draw around the eyes of your printed selfies

0:15:41 > 0:15:45using the outline of your cardboard glasses, like this.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Cut out both sets of eyes.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54Those eyes REALLY suit me, don't they?

0:15:55 > 0:15:57With a glue stick,

0:15:57 > 0:16:00attach the open eyes to one pair of cardboard glasses.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07And attach the closed eyes to the other pair.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14You must stick both frames together back-to-back,

0:16:14 > 0:16:17with both sets of eyes facing outwards.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19Classy!

0:16:20 > 0:16:22Finally...

0:16:22 > 0:16:28make a fold in the arms of your glasses so that YOU can wear them.

0:16:28 > 0:16:31Go To Sleep...Shades.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35Buy them now, cos I can see these flying off the shelves.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38Well, I could, if I had my eyes...

0:16:39 > 0:16:41..open!

0:16:45 > 0:16:47I'll keep my eye out for those!

0:16:49 > 0:16:51Here's a real quick art tip -

0:16:51 > 0:16:54how to make things look like they're moving really fast.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57I'm going to start my drawing with a car, cos cars are quick.

0:16:57 > 0:17:01Windscreen, couple of wheels, and there's the light.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04Now I'm going to draw the driver - here he is in there.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09Hands on the wheel, ten and two.

0:17:09 > 0:17:11I'm going to give him some hair,

0:17:11 > 0:17:14and I'm going to do this with zigzag lines going backwards to show

0:17:14 > 0:17:16the wind going through his hair.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19Now I'm going to add some action lines behind the car,

0:17:19 > 0:17:21so whichever way your character's travelling,

0:17:21 > 0:17:24make sure your action lines are behind.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27And this makes it look like it's travelling really fast.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30On the wheels, I'm going to add some too.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34But on these, I'm going to put a little curve,

0:17:34 > 0:17:37just to show that the wheel's going round.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39And finally, for extra speed,

0:17:39 > 0:17:42I'm going to add a puff of smoke coming out of the back of the car.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45There we go...

0:17:45 > 0:17:47a quick art tip.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50CAR ENGINE STARTS

0:17:55 > 0:17:56Oops!

0:17:58 > 0:18:00BOTH: Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!

0:18:00 > 0:18:01No rest for the wicked.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03What can I do for you guys?

0:18:03 > 0:18:05Ricky, what can you do with these pipe cleaners?

0:18:05 > 0:18:09Pipe cleaners? Well, maybe next time, if you pipe down a bit...

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Ohhh!

0:18:11 > 0:18:14BOTH: Ricky, what can you make with this?

0:18:14 > 0:18:16That looks interesting! I choose you.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19- Yay!- So what are your names?

0:18:19 > 0:18:21- My name's Steph.- My name's Ruby.

0:18:21 > 0:18:23Hi, Steph and Ruby, nice to meet you. Where are you from?

0:18:23 > 0:18:26- BOTH: We're from Liverpool.- So what have you guys got for me today?

0:18:26 > 0:18:28We've got some shaving foam.

0:18:28 > 0:18:32Shaving foam... Do you know what?

0:18:32 > 0:18:35I've been "shaving" this one for a day just like today.

0:18:35 > 0:18:36I'll just go and get my stuff.

0:18:36 > 0:18:40So, I've got...trusty shaving foam, some nice coloured paints,

0:18:40 > 0:18:44a piece of paper and, like, a dinner tray.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47So what I'm going to do to begin with is use the shaving foam.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49I'm going to use quite a lot of it.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52I'm going to fill the whole of this tray with it.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55'If it's not yours, make sure you ask first!'

0:18:55 > 0:18:58I'm going to make some marble effect wrapping paper.

0:19:00 > 0:19:04Basically, I've forgotten about my friend's birthday,

0:19:04 > 0:19:08so I'm going to make some wrapping paper to wrap up her present

0:19:08 > 0:19:09and hopefully make it up to her.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14I haven't really forgotten anyone's birthday.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17- Is it quite bad to forget somebody's birthday?- BOTH: Yes.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20Ohh! It's going to have to be a pretty good present.

0:19:22 > 0:19:23Now that I've sprayed it all out,

0:19:23 > 0:19:26I'm going to use this ruler to flatten it out nicely.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28I'm planning a party to make it up to my friend as well.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31What would be the best party you could think of?

0:19:31 > 0:19:33Erm, a roller skating party.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35Roller skating party? That is a good idea.

0:19:35 > 0:19:39I prefer skateboarding, myself, but it'd still be really fun.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43Now, going to use these nice colours over the foam.

0:19:43 > 0:19:44Start with some yellow.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48Then a bit of red.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54Bit of blue. Here you go.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57And a little bit of this darker blue, bit more purply.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00- I quite like fancy dress parties. - Me too.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03So you can hide amongst everyone, it's quite fun.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06I've got a piece of cardboard over here

0:20:06 > 0:20:08and I'm going to use this to scratch through the foam and the paint

0:20:08 > 0:20:11and give it a little bit of structure and pattern.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14Look at that, you get all these stripes on the cardboard as well.

0:20:14 > 0:20:18'I'm scraping the lines in a horizontal and vertical cross

0:20:18 > 0:20:20'pattern, but you can do whatever you like.'

0:20:22 > 0:20:25Yeah. Now is the fun bit.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28I'm going to lay a piece of paper over the foam and the paint

0:20:28 > 0:20:30and just press it down lightly

0:20:30 > 0:20:33so that it picks up all the paint from the foam.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36Right, think it's time to peel it off.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43Ooh, yeah. Lay this down.

0:20:43 > 0:20:46Scrape off the excess.

0:20:46 > 0:20:49'Every piece of wrapping paper you make is unique.'

0:20:49 > 0:20:52- OK, guys, you ready to see it? - BOTH: Yes.

0:20:52 > 0:20:54Cool. Here we go...

0:20:54 > 0:20:55What do you think?

0:20:55 > 0:20:56- Wow!- Whoa!

0:20:56 > 0:20:59- Do you like it?- BOTH: Yeah.

0:20:59 > 0:21:01So what would you guys give it out of ten?

0:21:01 > 0:21:02Hmm...ten.

0:21:03 > 0:21:06Ah, ten, phew! That was a close shave.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09It's a good score, too. I usually get silly scores.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13- Anyway, thanks very much, Steph, cheers, Ruby.- BOTH: Bye.- Bye-bye.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16Why don't you make marbled wrapping paper?

0:21:16 > 0:21:19I'm going to use it to wrap Sarah's present.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23But I'm going to do it at ninja speed.

0:21:36 > 0:21:40All I need to do now is to put on a surprise party to make it up to her.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44Just send a little e-flyer, an invite to my friends, send.

0:21:45 > 0:21:47LAPTOP BLEEPS

0:21:47 > 0:21:51- Whoa! Everyone's coming! - BLEEPING CONTINUES

0:21:51 > 0:21:55I'm going to throw Sarah a surprise party she'll never forget.

0:22:04 > 0:22:06Ninja skill...ooh!

0:22:06 > 0:22:10This is the venue for my surprise party for Sarah.

0:22:10 > 0:22:12Major art EVERYWHERE.

0:22:15 > 0:22:21This is a surprise party for Sarah, so...I'd better hide.

0:22:21 > 0:22:24MUSIC: Sing by Ed Sheeran

0:22:33 > 0:22:34Yes!

0:22:35 > 0:22:38Yes! Nailed it!

0:22:38 > 0:22:39None of this is working.

0:22:39 > 0:22:42I need something that will really knock Sarah's socks off.

0:22:42 > 0:22:47You know what? I shall become art itself.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50But first, I'd better get my ninja on.

0:22:53 > 0:22:55Heh, ha! Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo!

0:22:55 > 0:22:56Hm! Agh!

0:22:58 > 0:22:59Check this out...

0:23:00 > 0:23:02.."p-arty" ninja!

0:23:05 > 0:23:09'I've cut a hole in this piece of plywood so I can put my face

0:23:09 > 0:23:10'in the picture.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14'I've been inspired by Banksy to hide in a gallery.'

0:23:14 > 0:23:17Did I ever tell you about the time when I played a prank

0:23:17 > 0:23:19by sneaking my paintings into the Tate Modern?

0:23:21 > 0:23:24So what I'm doing now is just drawing an outline,

0:23:24 > 0:23:26so I've got a guide to do my painting,

0:23:26 > 0:23:30and I'm actually going to draw a face, much bigger than my own,

0:23:30 > 0:23:32so the features overlap.

0:23:32 > 0:23:37And when I paint it, I can easily hide within it.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46Already disappearing into the background.

0:23:50 > 0:23:51Oh, yeah!

0:23:53 > 0:23:55Sarah's so going to love this.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59I think I'm pretty much done with the black now,

0:23:59 > 0:24:02so it's time to start getting involved with some colour.

0:24:04 > 0:24:08This blue bit here is going to be the shadow on my face.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10It goes right down the middle

0:24:10 > 0:24:13so the light's going to be coming from here and casting a shadow.

0:24:16 > 0:24:21Although I'm painting myself, this isn't strictly a self-portrait.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23It doesn't really look anything like me.

0:24:23 > 0:24:26It's more of an abstract portrait, cos all the features

0:24:26 > 0:24:30have been exaggerated, the colours aren't necessarily true to life,

0:24:30 > 0:24:33and it's all a bit weird. Pretty cool, though.

0:24:36 > 0:24:39Last thing to do now, cover up the eyes.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43Obviously, I'm using some special face paint.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46You shouldn't just use any old paint on your face.

0:24:47 > 0:24:49Now you see me...

0:24:49 > 0:24:51now you don't.

0:24:51 > 0:24:53I've officially become...ninja art.

0:24:55 > 0:24:57'Cue the guests.'

0:24:57 > 0:24:59- WHISPERS:- Look out, here they come.

0:24:59 > 0:25:00Ooh!

0:25:00 > 0:25:02'There's Sarah and Gavin.'

0:25:02 > 0:25:03Look at that.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07'Matt, Andre, Rich... everyone's here!'

0:25:07 > 0:25:10- WHISPERS:- There's Sarah, she hasn't noticed me yet.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12ALL: Cheers!

0:25:14 > 0:25:17Oh, Gav, this is really great, but where's Ricky?

0:25:17 > 0:25:21I don't know, Sarah. He's always letting people down at the minute.

0:25:21 > 0:25:22SHE SIGHS

0:25:22 > 0:25:24I can't believe he's not here.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27I mean, who throws a party for their best friend and doesn't turn up?

0:25:27 > 0:25:30Hmm. This one looks REALLY familiar.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34RICKY BLOWS A RASPBERRY Gavin!

0:25:34 > 0:25:36It wasn't me!

0:25:36 > 0:25:39Yeah, Gav, it's an art gallery, not a fart gallery.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42- Ricky!- Yeah! - Why are you in a painting?

0:25:42 > 0:25:44It's meant to be a surprise for Sarah.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47- Ahh!- Go get her, so I can make her party arty.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49Ha, brilliant!

0:25:49 > 0:25:52- Ah, look at that.- That is good. - Oh, that's Rick...

0:25:52 > 0:25:53Oh!

0:25:55 > 0:25:57Happy birthday, Sarah!

0:25:59 > 0:26:00That's amazing!

0:26:00 > 0:26:03Come over here, I've got something for you.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06Oh, thank you! Thanks very much, Ricky.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09- I'm sorry I missed your birthday. - That's OK.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12It's some fingerless gloves - I made them for you!

0:26:12 > 0:26:15- Oh, thanks!- Lovely wrist warmers.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17OK, Sarah, let's party.

0:26:23 > 0:26:27- Oh, thanks for my party, Ricky. All is forgiven.- My pleasure.

0:26:27 > 0:26:31- Shall we go and get some food, guys? ALL:- Yeah!

0:26:31 > 0:26:33Food, awesome!

0:26:33 > 0:26:35Hey, I'll just get this off my head.

0:26:39 > 0:26:41Ugh, it's stuck!

0:26:41 > 0:26:45I know I'm no oil painting, but this is ridiculous.

0:26:46 > 0:26:49Guys... Hey, guys!

0:26:50 > 0:26:54Hey, guys! Guys, my head's stuck.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57Guys...

0:26:57 > 0:26:58Hey, guys!

0:27:03 > 0:27:04Wow.

0:27:04 > 0:27:08I finally got that frame off of my head and I'm back to normal.

0:27:09 > 0:27:11Looking good!

0:27:11 > 0:27:14Today has taught me a valuable Art Ninja lesson.

0:27:14 > 0:27:19If making up with mates is your aim, then just say sorry in a frame.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22That paint took a long time to get off my face.

0:27:22 > 0:27:25I'm glad it's all gone, though.

0:27:25 > 0:27:26Phew!

0:27:33 > 0:27:34What was that?

0:27:36 > 0:27:38Ughhh!

0:27:38 > 0:27:42Argggggggggh!

0:27:47 > 0:27:49To get your Art Ninja on,

0:27:49 > 0:27:51go to the CBBC website.

0:27:51 > 0:27:52Ninja skills!
