0:00:03 > 0:00:05I'm Ricky. I live in Bristol.

0:00:05 > 0:00:10By day, I work as an animator, which is lucky, cos I love art.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13I live for art. I even dream of art.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15I draw...

0:00:15 > 0:00:17I paint...

0:00:17 > 0:00:20I make things.

0:00:20 > 0:00:25I hang out with my mates Gavin, Michelle and Sarah.

0:00:25 > 0:00:26SCREAMS

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Most importantly, I make ninja moves.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Some people call me the...

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Art Ninja!

0:00:33 > 0:00:38Today, I'll show you cow... I mean how, to make a bull's head hoopla.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42I'll whip up ghostly wallpaper that's so good, it's spooky,

0:00:42 > 0:00:49and watch the paint fly in a slow-mo masterpiece, because, today, it's...

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Day of the decoration.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55ALARM CLOCK BEEPS

0:00:56 > 0:00:59It's a new day.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Time to get my Ninja on.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04And my clothes!

0:01:26 > 0:01:29And today is not so much about painting, but decorating,

0:01:29 > 0:01:30so let's get rolling.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35I know what would bring this flat to life - a game of giant hoopla.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39The Art Ninja bull's head hoopla.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41It's got a nice ring to it.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44So, I've got some big cardboard down here,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48and I'm going to draw on it a great big shield to work as my back board.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59You need a hole to hang it up. Nice big one there.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Now, I'm going to cut that out.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09There we are. Now, I'm going to put that to one side,

0:02:09 > 0:02:10cos I'll need it in a moment.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12I've got some more cardboard here.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15And, on this, I'm going to draw the profile of the bull's head.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21You can look online for some nice looking silhouettes for inspiration.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22Going to cut that out.

0:02:26 > 0:02:27There you are. That's one.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Right, we're going to need two of these. Ninja skills!

0:02:33 > 0:02:35OK, now I'm going to score a line down the inside,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38about two centimetres from the back of the bull's head.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40I'm going to use a ruler.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43It's a bit safer than scissors.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45And one on the other one. There we are.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49And now we're going to fold it along here, and these are going to

0:02:49 > 0:02:54work as flaps, to attach the bull's head to my back board.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57There we are. All right, let's bring over the back board.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Now, you can attach these with glue stick and sticky tape,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03or double-sided sticky tape.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Line-up with the middle...

0:03:09 > 0:03:11..and sticky up the other one.

0:03:11 > 0:03:12Sticky one next to it.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Again, make sure they line up nicely.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18I'm going to reinforce it with a strip here,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20so I'm going to cover that with some glue,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24and this strip is the same width as the two folds put together.

0:03:30 > 0:03:36And make it nice and strong. Lovely!

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Now I need to make the separate parts of the nose and the head,

0:03:39 > 0:03:41that'll hold it all together.

0:03:41 > 0:03:42OK, I've got some more cardboard over here,

0:03:42 > 0:03:45and the lid of some soft cheese or spread,

0:03:45 > 0:03:48and I'm going to draw around that, for the first part of the nose.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50And I'm going to cut that out.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57And then I'm going to draw a couple of lines on here, that I'm going to

0:03:57 > 0:04:01use as slits, to slide over the two parts of the bull's head.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04I've drawn the lines to about two centimetres from the top,

0:04:04 > 0:04:06about five centimetres apart.

0:04:07 > 0:04:08I'm going to cut those out.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15That's the first part of the nose.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18OK, I've got another bit of card.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20I'm going to draw around the lid again.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23I'm going to turn it like that,

0:04:23 > 0:04:26and I'm going to draw around it the other way round.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32I'm going to draw the same lines up this one,

0:04:32 > 0:04:34to two centimetres away from the top,

0:04:34 > 0:04:38and just remembering that this space here is the same distance apart

0:04:38 > 0:04:41as that strip we used to separate the bull's head.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45There we go.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47Here's some other bits that I've cut, and, as you can see,

0:04:47 > 0:04:53each one is slightly bigger than the previous one, about two centimetres.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56The two biggest pieces of card will need to be turned around,

0:04:56 > 0:04:58and the slits cut the other way.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00These will form the bull's head.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03The smaller four pieces of card will form the nose.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05So, move these to one side.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10This layer, second from the back, gets some ears,

0:05:10 > 0:05:12and I've pre-cut them.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14And just to keep 'em in the style,

0:05:14 > 0:05:17I've layered up a second bit here, so it's like the inside of the ear.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19Bit of double-sided sticky tape.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Go on the side of the head there, and that one goes on to there.

0:05:22 > 0:05:26There we go. Looking much more like a bull.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Now, this next layer is going to look a lot like a bull,

0:05:28 > 0:05:30cos it's going to have the horns on it.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34Now, I've pre-cut the horns, and I've doubled them up,

0:05:34 > 0:05:36cos they need to be quite strong,

0:05:36 > 0:05:39cos they're going to hold the rings, and I've put some double-sided

0:05:39 > 0:05:42sticky tape here, to attach them to the back of the head.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Now, I've folded them here, and close to the tip,

0:05:48 > 0:05:51just to make them look more like horns.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Right, I can start sliding them on to the bull's head.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57Now, it's good to start with the front one, because it holds the

0:05:57 > 0:06:00whole thing together and keeps it stiff, so you can get the others on.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06Just slide the next one on like that.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08There.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10The ears...

0:06:10 > 0:06:12and now, the horns.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15The horns on.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Let's see how it's working.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Right, let's hang it up. Oh, look at that!

0:06:22 > 0:06:24It's time to play!

0:06:24 > 0:06:27I've made some hoops out of card by drawing around a bowl and

0:06:27 > 0:06:28cutting out the middle.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31Ooh!

0:06:35 > 0:06:39Ah! Bull's-eye! Well, bull's horn.

0:06:40 > 0:06:44The bull's head hoopla. Are you game to have a go?

0:06:47 > 0:06:48Hey, you guys!

0:06:48 > 0:06:50This guy is such a creep!

0:06:50 > 0:06:55Have you ever wanted to creep up and play tricks on your mates?

0:06:55 > 0:06:56Told you.

0:06:56 > 0:07:01Now, you can surprise them with this incredible gassy ghost!

0:07:05 > 0:07:07Here's how you make it.

0:07:07 > 0:07:11You'll need two pieces of card, one white and one black,

0:07:11 > 0:07:13and a pair of scissors.

0:07:13 > 0:07:19With care, cut some shapes from the card, two arms from the white,

0:07:19 > 0:07:21eyes and nose from the black.

0:07:25 > 0:07:29Next, you'll need a white plastic bag,

0:07:29 > 0:07:32and some double-sided sticky tape.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37Use the tape to stick the eyes and mouth to the bag.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40Peely-peely, sticky-sticky.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Stick the arms on, too.

0:07:48 > 0:07:50Now you need a white balloon.

0:07:53 > 0:07:58Inflate said balloon, but do not tie it. Careful now!

0:07:58 > 0:08:00Don't let go of that balloon.

0:08:00 > 0:08:04Put the balloon inside the bag while holding the end.

0:08:04 > 0:08:09It now looks like a scary ghost. It's very convincing.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11The gassy ghost!

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Why don't you make one, and let one go!

0:08:15 > 0:08:18They'd be good to cover up your own bottom burps.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20I'll have to get me some of those.

0:08:20 > 0:08:21Urgh!

0:08:23 > 0:08:25I'm pretty sure that picture moves on its own.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28It's almost as if it's animated.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32This is my friend, Dan.

0:08:32 > 0:08:38He's been cultivating a pretty impressive beard. Nice!

0:08:38 > 0:08:40So fluffy! Hang on, Dan! What are you doing?

0:08:40 > 0:08:44Are you some kind of cunning beard peeling spy?

0:08:44 > 0:08:48Oh, no, my mistake. It's just an animation!

0:08:48 > 0:08:50A hairy one.

0:08:50 > 0:08:52So, to make this awesome animation,

0:08:52 > 0:08:54all you're going to need is some wool or thread,

0:08:54 > 0:08:58some clippers, a tablet, a pen and paper,

0:08:58 > 0:09:01and a beardy friend, who's willing to be shaved.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05And you can make this animation in just three ninja moves.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07Ninja move number one.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09I'm going to start by drawing myself some storyboards.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12The whole point of doing them is to plan out what you're going to do.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15I reckon you'll have, like, your hand up there,

0:09:15 > 0:09:17and I think we'll cut as you start pulling,

0:09:17 > 0:09:21and go to a nice, sort of, head-on shot as the beard unravels.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24When was the last time you actually took your beard off?

0:09:24 > 0:09:26- About a year ago.- Are you feeling confident?- I love it.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29I'm feeling confident. Right. Let's do it.

0:09:29 > 0:09:30Ninja move number two.

0:09:30 > 0:09:32As Dan's going to be our animation model,

0:09:32 > 0:09:36it's really important that he stays really still in between our frames.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38Isn't that right, Dan?

0:09:38 > 0:09:41I said, "Stay still." Perfect!

0:09:41 > 0:09:43Then, you need to get a bit of wool, or whatever you're using,

0:09:43 > 0:09:47and hide it inside the beard.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51I'm going to animate Dan coming in and pulling this thread out.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54We're going to have it go across his face, and we're going to shave

0:09:54 > 0:09:58the space behind it, to make it look like the beard's unravelling.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01If you're going to be using clippers,

0:10:01 > 0:10:04it's probably a good idea that you get some adult supervision.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08It's OK for us, cos we're, believe it or not, both adults.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10Ninja move number three.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12As your model's beard unravels,

0:10:12 > 0:10:15you need to capture all your frames on your tablet device.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17I'm using a free animation app.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19Just search around and find one that you like.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21If I look at my storyboard, my first shot is

0:10:21 > 0:10:24kind of a three-quarters on the side of Dan's face.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Make sure you only shave a willing family member or friend,

0:10:34 > 0:10:38otherwise, you and me will both be in a hairy situation.

0:10:40 > 0:10:42So, now it's to that point, I think.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50OK, Dan. We're all done. And you look good, though.

0:10:50 > 0:10:51You look nice. Yeah.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54Anyway, I've compiled all the frames.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57I think it's time for us to take a look at our mini masterpiece.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11Ow! Beardy-weirdy!

0:11:14 > 0:11:16Time for some decorating, I think.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21Ah! Right then, flat, let's make you look slick.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24Where should I start painting?

0:11:24 > 0:11:28Oh! Ah!

0:11:28 > 0:11:32Didn't clean my brushes. All stuck together.

0:11:32 > 0:11:33I can't use these.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35And if I can't use the brushes,

0:11:35 > 0:11:38the only way I'm going to decorate this flat

0:11:38 > 0:11:40is with a spot of wallpapering.

0:11:40 > 0:11:41I'll be right back.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51Well, that didn't go too well.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54Wallpaper's not exactly on the wall.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57I look like a mummy. Do you know what?

0:11:57 > 0:12:01I've got an idea how I could fix this. Ah!

0:12:01 > 0:12:02Ah!

0:12:02 > 0:12:08Just as scary as a mummy is a ghost, so I'm going to make myself some

0:12:08 > 0:12:13ghostly wallpaper using a technique known as tessellation.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15- Yo, Ricky!- Who are you?

0:12:16 > 0:12:19I'm the famous artist, Maurits Cornelis Escher,

0:12:19 > 0:12:23but you can call me MC. When it comes to rapping, I have the key.

0:12:23 > 0:12:25It's not just rapping, dancing and popping,

0:12:25 > 0:12:29I also like to make art that's interlocking.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33Here's one of Escher's famous interlocking tessellations.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35Tessellation is an interlocking pattern,

0:12:35 > 0:12:39and I'm going to make some using a little piece of card here.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42I'm going to start drawing my ghostly shapes on it.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44I need to make sure that the shapes link up perfectly with

0:12:44 > 0:12:46three of the corners.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48That's three of the corners.

0:12:50 > 0:12:51I need to cut those shapes out.

0:12:51 > 0:12:55I need to be careful now, because these shapes need to interlock.

0:12:55 > 0:12:59Also, I need to be careful, because these scissors are quite sharp.

0:13:00 > 0:13:04So, here, all of these shapes perfectly fit together.

0:13:04 > 0:13:07I'm going to take this one over the other side,

0:13:07 > 0:13:10and when that happens, we start to create the shape of the ghost, see?

0:13:10 > 0:13:12His head's here, there's his other arm coming up,

0:13:12 > 0:13:15and then this one here is going to come down to the bottom,

0:13:15 > 0:13:16but then we're going to flip it.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19And this means that our first set of ghosts are going to be

0:13:19 > 0:13:22facing one way, and then our next layer down,

0:13:22 > 0:13:24those ghosts will be facing the other way.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26It makes your picture more dynamic.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Using some sticky tape, make sure your pieces join up

0:13:29 > 0:13:31in the right places.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38Now we've got our first ghost template shape,

0:13:38 > 0:13:43we can now get a big piece of paper, and start drawing round the shape.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46Thankfully, there's a nice big line running down the side of our ghost,

0:13:46 > 0:13:49and we can use that as a guide to line him up with the paper.

0:13:49 > 0:13:50Just for the first one.

0:13:54 > 0:13:59Whoa! Perfectly interlocks. That's a good sign.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05And notice here that also it interlocks here, too.

0:14:10 > 0:14:12Now I'm going to come down and do the second line,

0:14:12 > 0:14:14and you can see here, it doesn't fit in,

0:14:14 > 0:14:16because we turned the bottom round,

0:14:16 > 0:14:19and that's so we can make a more interesting picture here.

0:14:19 > 0:14:21We can have these ghosts facing that way,

0:14:21 > 0:14:24and those ones facing that way.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26You don't have to do a ghost.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28You can try any shape, or anything you think of.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30It's best to keep the shape quite simple,

0:14:30 > 0:14:34because, otherwise, the interlocking can get a bit tricky.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36I'm just finishing up the bottom here,

0:14:36 > 0:14:39to make sure the pattern continues off the page.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41Using a thick black pen,

0:14:41 > 0:14:44I'm drawing just inside the pencil on some of them.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46You'll see why later.

0:14:46 > 0:14:48I've missed this one out here,

0:14:48 > 0:14:50and I'm going to jump on to the one afterwards and do the same.

0:14:50 > 0:14:53I'm also adding facial expressions to them.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00Draw the faces in of the other ghosts, and I'm not going to fill

0:15:00 > 0:15:03in the mouths on this one, cos I'm going to paint this guy black.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09You may not be able to see the tessellation yet,

0:15:09 > 0:15:13but when I start painting, it will reveal itself.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16As some of them are white and some of them are black, I'm only going to

0:15:16 > 0:15:20paint every other one, the ones that I haven't done an outline for.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23OK, I've marked each one that I need to paint, by throwing a big

0:15:23 > 0:15:25bit of black paint in the middle.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28I need to be careful, and only paint up to the pencil lines.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40Obviously, when you're doing yours at home, it would be good

0:15:40 > 0:15:42to put some paper down.

0:15:43 > 0:15:46This black and white effect, like this kind of checker-boarding,

0:15:46 > 0:15:49really helps to emphasise the tessellation effect.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52My last ghost. Right.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55If you do one of these, you have to wait for it to dry,

0:15:55 > 0:15:57but I'm going to use my ninja skills.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01I'm going to add the same lines as I've done on the white ghosts

0:16:01 > 0:16:04on to the black ghosts with a white pencil.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11I think I'm done.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14What do you think of my tessellation picture then, MC Escher?

0:16:14 > 0:16:16A few more pictures just like that,

0:16:16 > 0:16:19you'll have new wallpaper for your flat.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22Wallpaper tessellation inspired by MC Escher.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24Why don't you get stuck in?

0:16:24 > 0:16:26At least I no longer look like a mummy.

0:16:26 > 0:16:27PHONE RINGING

0:16:27 > 0:16:29Speaking of Mummy...

0:16:32 > 0:16:33Hi, Ricky!

0:16:33 > 0:16:37I suppose you're too busy to answer the phone to your mum, are you?

0:16:37 > 0:16:40Yeah, I am. Glue everywhere. Blame Escher!

0:16:40 > 0:16:43Well, you won't blame me for telling you what's coming up.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46You're on a roll with a temporary tattoo...

0:16:46 > 0:16:47Oh, look at that!

0:16:47 > 0:16:51..you'll sketch a scary character...

0:16:51 > 0:16:54and you'll be helping Sarah with some painting!

0:16:54 > 0:16:56You'd better get on with it.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59I know you, Ricky, I bet you haven't even drawn the curtains yet.

0:16:59 > 0:17:00Bye!

0:17:00 > 0:17:03I've only got blinds.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05And I can draw more than the curtains.

0:17:05 > 0:17:07Mum can sometimes be a scary character,

0:17:07 > 0:17:08but she's a softie at heart.

0:17:08 > 0:17:12Here's a quick art tip of how to draw someone truly scary.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15The best way to draw a scary character is to use pointy shapes,

0:17:15 > 0:17:17so I'm going to start by drawing a face that's

0:17:17 > 0:17:19an upside down triangle shape.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22Then I'm going to add slanty eyes that lean in to the centre.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25This makes him look a lot more mean and angry.

0:17:25 > 0:17:29And you can accentuate that with some eyebrows doing the same thing.

0:17:31 > 0:17:35Then have a pointy nose and ears,

0:17:35 > 0:17:38and then, I think, my scary character's going to be a vampire,

0:17:38 > 0:17:41so I'm going to draw the mouth with some fangs.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43Let's pop some hair in there.

0:17:45 > 0:17:48Then, with the body, I'm going to keep it quite thin and lean.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51He's going to be doing a scary pose, putting his arms in the air.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53Maybe in this pose he's doing a nasty laugh, going...

0:17:53 > 0:17:55LAUGHS

0:17:55 > 0:17:59Going to add some big, scary claws on the end.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03To finish, I'm going to add a pointy collar, bat wings under

0:18:03 > 0:18:04the arms...

0:18:05 > 0:18:09..and a nice big moon, to make his surroundings scary.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Vampires never come out in the day time.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13There you go.

0:18:14 > 0:18:15A quick art tip.

0:18:17 > 0:18:19Now, try and draw your own scary character.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21It could be shockingly good.

0:18:27 > 0:18:28Yah!

0:18:28 > 0:18:32The thing about being an Art Ninja, is you're ready for anything.

0:18:32 > 0:18:33BOTH: Ricky! Ricky! Ricky!

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Made me jump! What can I help you with?

0:18:36 > 0:18:40BOTH: Ricky, what can you make with a ruler?

0:18:40 > 0:18:44- A ruler? I have to draw the line somewhere.- BOTH: Oh!

0:18:44 > 0:18:47BOTH: Ricky! What can you make with this?

0:18:48 > 0:18:51That looks interesting. I choose you!

0:18:51 > 0:18:52BOTH: Yay!

0:18:52 > 0:18:56- What are your names? - I'm Courtney.- And I'm Kyra.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59Nice to meet you, Courtney and Kyra. Where are you guys from?

0:18:59 > 0:19:02- BOTH: Bristol. - Bristol? You should've popped in.

0:19:02 > 0:19:03Anyway, what have you got for me?

0:19:03 > 0:19:08BOTH: Can you make art with a cardboard tube?

0:19:08 > 0:19:09Cardboard tube?

0:19:09 > 0:19:12Do you know what, I think I've got some kitchen roll laying around.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15I'll just go and grab one of those.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18I brought myself some glue, some paint, a pot to put it in,

0:19:18 > 0:19:20a little paper plate.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22I'm going to use that for when I'm gluing.

0:19:22 > 0:19:23And, of course, cardboard tube.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26And what I'm going to make with this is a rollable print

0:19:26 > 0:19:29that you can use for a temporary tattoo.

0:19:29 > 0:19:31- Does that sound cool?- Yeah.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34Awesome. So, I'm going to start drawing my design.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36Draw it on this little bit of card here.

0:19:36 > 0:19:39What's a good design? Pirates have a lot of tattoos, don't they?

0:19:39 > 0:19:44- Yeah.- Yeah. Skull and crossbones, me thinks. Do you guys like pirates?

0:19:44 > 0:19:45BOTH: Yeah.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48Yeah, who doesn't like pirates, eh?

0:19:48 > 0:19:53I'm trying to draw this with an unbroken line, so it all joins

0:19:53 > 0:19:57together in one, and you'll see why when I take it on to the next step.

0:19:58 > 0:20:02For the chin and then, of course, crossbones.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08OK.

0:20:08 > 0:20:11I am going to glue some string along the lines,

0:20:11 > 0:20:12so I can use it to make a print.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16There we go.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18And I'm trying to glue it down to the line that I've drawn,

0:20:18 > 0:20:21to raise it from the paper.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23Good tip is to use a cocktail stick,

0:20:23 > 0:20:26because it stops your fingers getting too sticky.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29So, this little thing here is going to be for decorating your arms,

0:20:29 > 0:20:32but I've spent a lot of the day decorating my flat, or trying to.

0:20:32 > 0:20:34If you could decorate your room any way you wanted to,

0:20:34 > 0:20:36- how would you do it? - Paint my walls blue.

0:20:36 > 0:20:38Paint it blue? Courtney?

0:20:38 > 0:20:40Paint it orange.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43Would you paint a mural in your room or anything like that?

0:20:43 > 0:20:46- I'd paint moustaches. - Moustaches? Why's that?

0:20:46 > 0:20:48- I'm obsessed with them. - Fair enough.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51I've got a giant moustache pillow, as well, if you want to see it?

0:20:51 > 0:20:53Yeah, all right.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59Yeah! Awesome!

0:20:59 > 0:21:01Maybe you could make a temporary tattoo moustache.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03LAUGHS

0:21:03 > 0:21:05Although it would mean printing it on your face.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08You know what, guys? If you're playing outside later, maybe

0:21:08 > 0:21:12you could have a go at the temporary tattoos and impress your mates.

0:21:12 > 0:21:15Excellent. It's dried quite quickly. And there we are.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18- Look at that. You see how it's raised?- That's wicked.- Whoa!

0:21:18 > 0:21:22Right, the next stage is to attach it to the tube.

0:21:22 > 0:21:26So, I'm just going to roll it round like that,

0:21:26 > 0:21:29and hold it in place with a little bit of sticky tape.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33And I'm doing this so that it's easier to apply the prints.

0:21:33 > 0:21:35I'm only going to do it up one end.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38If I do it in the middle, it'll be harder to roll, so, there,

0:21:38 > 0:21:41I can hold on to this end when I want to apply it on this side.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47See that now? So we can roll it on.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50Now, I'm going to paint on to the strings.

0:21:50 > 0:21:52And the paint I'm using is poster paint,

0:21:52 > 0:21:55which means it won't harm your skin, and it washes off.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57I've got my paint here.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01And I'm going to pat it on to the string.

0:22:03 > 0:22:07See how the raised string takes the poster paint.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09You could do this any colour you wanted to.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12You could obviously do it blue, or orange,

0:22:12 > 0:22:16but I want it to be quite dark and pirate-y, so I'm doing it black.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19Making sure every single little bit of the string's covered.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22Right, think it's ready to print. Wish me luck!

0:22:22 > 0:22:24Good luck!

0:22:24 > 0:22:25Here we go.

0:22:33 > 0:22:37Oh, look at that! Do you guys want to see it?

0:22:37 > 0:22:39- Yeah.- OK, here you go.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44- BOTH: Wow! - Is that a good tattoo?

0:22:44 > 0:22:45- Yeah.- Pretty good, eh?

0:22:45 > 0:22:48And the good thing about a temporary tattoo is that

0:22:48 > 0:22:50I can wash it off and try a new design tomorrow.

0:22:50 > 0:22:52What do you guys give it out of ten?

0:22:52 > 0:22:54BOTH: We give it a ta-two.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57Ta... Oh, a ta-two.

0:22:57 > 0:23:01Well, I give you a seven-and-a-half for your joke.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04Thank you very much for your suggestion. You've been awesome.

0:23:04 > 0:23:08- BOTH: Thanks, Ricky! - Cheers then. Bye-bye!- BOTH: Bye!

0:23:08 > 0:23:11Why don't you design your own temporary tattoo, too?

0:23:11 > 0:23:13PHONE RINGING

0:23:13 > 0:23:18Ah, it's my mate, Sarah.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20Hey, Sarah! What's that?

0:23:20 > 0:23:24You want me to come to your flat and help do some painting?

0:23:24 > 0:23:27Her flat's a right tip. It could do with a lick of paint.

0:23:27 > 0:23:28Yeah, yeah, sure, I'd love to.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31I've been trying to do it in my flat anyway.

0:23:31 > 0:23:32Cool. I'll see you later.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36Oh, no, but my paint brushes are all stuck together.

0:23:36 > 0:23:38I'll have to go and get some new ones.

0:23:40 > 0:23:41Shops are closed now.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46It's the only brush I could find. It'll have to do.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48Off to Sarah's.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55Ninja skills!

0:23:55 > 0:23:58Ooh! A note from Sarah.

0:23:58 > 0:24:03"Dear Ricky. I've had to pop out. Please start painting without me."

0:24:05 > 0:24:08This is going to take some doing. Going to have to get some help.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12Hi, Gavin. Yeah, bit of an emergency.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14I'm a ninja down. Could you come quick, please?

0:24:14 > 0:24:16- It'll be really... - Hello, mate!

0:24:16 > 0:24:18- Hi, dude! That was quick. - Always happy to help, buddy.

0:24:18 > 0:24:23Right. Basically we've got to paint this place with this.

0:24:23 > 0:24:24- Wow!- Mm-hmm.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27I don't think we're going to be able to do this, mate.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30Let me check my pockets, see if there's anything for inspiration.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34Got this.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36- A balloon?- Yeah.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Have you got any more of those?

0:24:38 > 0:24:40Yeah, about 400 more, I think.

0:24:40 > 0:24:41It gives me a rad idea.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44But first, let's get our ninja on.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54Art Ninja!

0:24:55 > 0:24:56Art Ninja.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01OK, Gavin, let's do this.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Do what?

0:25:03 > 0:25:05Balloon, paint, this.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09Sweet!

0:26:18 > 0:26:21Wow, I think this looks incredible.

0:26:21 > 0:26:23I think Sarah's going to absolutely love this!

0:26:23 > 0:26:25Love it? She's going to go wild for it!

0:26:29 > 0:26:32SHE SCREAMS

0:26:32 > 0:26:35What have you done to my flat?

0:26:35 > 0:26:37Do you like it? We've painted it for you.

0:26:37 > 0:26:38Just like you asked.

0:26:38 > 0:26:43I wanted a painting to go on my white wall, not painted.

0:26:43 > 0:26:47I'm sorry, Sarah. I promise we'll clear it all up.

0:26:47 > 0:26:50And it better be done by the time I get back!

0:26:50 > 0:26:54Anyway, sorry, Ricky, I've got to go. I've got a hair appointment.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01I can't believe he's given me the brush off.

0:27:02 > 0:27:04This is going to take me ages.

0:27:05 > 0:27:07I'd better get my teeth into it.

0:27:18 > 0:27:22Well, I did it. Sarah's flat is restored to its former glory,

0:27:22 > 0:27:23and Sarah did get a piece of art.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26I sent her our film of it as video art.

0:27:26 > 0:27:30Today has taught me a valuable Art Ninja lesson.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32If you're asked to paint a mate's room,

0:27:32 > 0:27:35it's not always best to use a balloon.

0:27:40 > 0:27:43Hang on! I forgot to brush my teeth.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50HE SCREAMS

0:27:57 > 0:28:01To get your Art Ninja on, go to the CBBC website. Ninja skills!
