0:00:02 > 0:00:05'I'm Ricky. I live in Bristol.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07'By day, I work as an animator,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10'which is lucky cos I love art.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13'I live for art. I even dream of art.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15'I draw.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17'I paint.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20'I make things.

0:00:21 > 0:00:26'I hang out with my mates, Gavin, Michelle and Sarah.

0:00:26 > 0:00:31'Most importantly, I make ninja moves. Some people call me the...

0:00:31 > 0:00:33'Art Ninja.

0:00:33 > 0:00:38'Today, I'll show you how to make an awesome toxic bin for your

0:00:38 > 0:00:43'smelly socks, an incredible robot with dots

0:00:43 > 0:00:48'and I'll paint with mates and pogo sticks because today it's...

0:00:49 > 0:00:52'Day Of The Trash.'

0:00:53 > 0:00:55ALARM BEEPS

0:00:55 > 0:00:59Ohhhh! Tidy party last night.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02I might need to tidy the flat though.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Time to get my Ninja on.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06SMACK!

0:01:06 > 0:01:09And my clothes.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Wow, it was an even better party than I remember.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40I better clear up.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Ninja skills.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53All this cleaning up has given me an idea.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56I could use this old cardboard to make myself an awesome toxic bin.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59I could put my old socks, any old rubbish in it.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00# Art Ninja! #

0:02:00 > 0:02:04The Art Ninja toxic bin, ideal for all your toxic waste or just...

0:02:04 > 0:02:06ahem, your smelly socks.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12I'm going to start by drawing round this plate.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17There we are. Cut that out.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Doesn't matter if it's a bit rough,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21it's going to be a toxic bin after all.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Right, we're going to need three of these.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27So I'll just ninja myself some more.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28'Yee-ha!'

0:02:28 > 0:02:29Nice.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32And I've cut out the centres of these two.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Just put those to one side for now.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Got any more cardboard down here?

0:02:37 > 0:02:40I'm going to draw a wave across the top of this.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45I can do a little bit better than that.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49There we are. Going to cut that out too.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55There we are.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59And these two bits are going to be the main part of my toxic bin.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01The great thing about the corrugated cardboard is that

0:03:01 > 0:03:03I can roll it round.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07But I'm going to keep it a little bit geometric, maybe every

0:03:07 > 0:03:10two and a half centimetres doing a crease,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13so it feels more industrial rather than like a perfect curve.

0:03:13 > 0:03:18Great. Now just going to tape that together.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24I'm going to do the same thing with this bit.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Cool. Now because I've cut this curve into it,

0:03:30 > 0:03:33it means when I attach it together I can have it

0:03:33 > 0:03:36pointing in a certain direction, and I think that'll look really good.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39OK, I'm going to take the bit that I didn't cut a hole in -

0:03:39 > 0:03:41that's going to be the base.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44I'm going to tape the first tube to it.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46And as you tape this to the base,

0:03:46 > 0:03:49it will help hold it into a nice circular shape.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52You can put some sticky tape on the inside too.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54Cool. Now I'm going to take one of the rings I did,

0:03:54 > 0:03:57and stick that to the top of this one.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00There's quite a lot of tape in this one,

0:04:00 > 0:04:03so you need to make sure you've got a dependable supply.

0:04:05 > 0:04:06There we are.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09Now I'll take that other loop I did, and turn it so that

0:04:09 > 0:04:12the angle then is down first,

0:04:12 > 0:04:14so it kind of leans over forward.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16It's easy to put things in then.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19It also makes it look like a pipe.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Tape that on too... Cool.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Now I'm going to use the final ring.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27And that goes on top here.

0:04:29 > 0:04:30Nearly there.

0:04:32 > 0:04:36Now there we have the overall structure for the toxic bin.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40Now it could do with a nice layer of papier-mache.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43So, luckily, loads of mess round here.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45Got some newspaper and papier-mache mix,

0:04:45 > 0:04:47which is two parts glue, one part water.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49I'll use one of those old boxes.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52I don't want to get the kitchen too messy after clearing it up.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56There we go.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59So I'm going to do a layer of papier-mache all over,

0:04:59 > 0:05:02and a little bit down the front of the inside.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04A nice bit of messy therapy from all the tidying up.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08The reason I'm covering this in papier-mache is to cover up

0:05:08 > 0:05:12the sticky tape and make it easier to paint and it's helping me

0:05:12 > 0:05:13clean up all that loose newspaper.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Right, it's looking pretty good.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18Got a nice coverage all over.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21The next stage is to wait for it to dry,

0:05:21 > 0:05:23but I wait for nothing cos I'm the Art Ninja!

0:05:23 > 0:05:24'Yee-ha!'

0:05:24 > 0:05:28There we go. Nice and dry and painted silver.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30You can paint it grey if you don't have silver paint.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33I've painted the inside black too.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35Next, I'll do a technique on the outside

0:05:35 > 0:05:38called dry brushing to give it a bit of texture

0:05:38 > 0:05:39and make it look old and worn.

0:05:39 > 0:05:43So you need to put a bit of black paint in here.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45There we go.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50So I'm going to get a little bit of paint just on the tips.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52You might need to rub some of the excess off.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55Then just start flicking it across.

0:05:55 > 0:05:58Just let the dry brush catch in places.

0:05:58 > 0:06:03See how it picks up on all the facets, makes it look old and worn.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06And I'm going to do that all the way round.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11It's details like this that make it look really real.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15Just round the top. There we are.

0:06:15 > 0:06:19Right, now I'm going to draw some industrial-looking bolts round

0:06:19 > 0:06:22the top and I'll do that just by sketching an outline of them.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26Just sketching them. Lovely.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28It's going to be full of toxic stuff.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31I think it needs just one more finishing touch.

0:06:32 > 0:06:36'I've made some little critters who like hanging out around bins -

0:06:36 > 0:06:38'a cockroach, a rat,

0:06:38 > 0:06:40'and there have been rumours...'

0:06:40 > 0:06:43There's been alligators in the sewers!

0:06:43 > 0:06:46There's one there.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48Put some slime underneath like that.

0:06:48 > 0:06:52And of course, probably going to keep some smelly socks in here,

0:06:52 > 0:06:55so we need a little warning sign.

0:06:55 > 0:06:57There we go.

0:06:57 > 0:06:59This bin certainly isn't rubbish.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01It's awesome.

0:07:03 > 0:07:07# And I love what you do Don't you know that you're toxic? #

0:07:07 > 0:07:09Oh, the toxic bin.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12Just throwing it out there, but why don't you have a go?

0:07:17 > 0:07:19I wonder what time it is.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22Oh, I know what time it is. It's Animation O'Clock.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Hi, I thought it was a lovely day,

0:07:24 > 0:07:27so I'll get outside and do some animation in the garden.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29But I'll tell you what, it's too hot for jeans...

0:07:32 > 0:07:34Ah, that's loads better.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45Who needs fancy pants kit to animate? Not me.

0:07:45 > 0:07:46I just need my ninja fingers.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52To make this nifty flipbook animation, all you're going

0:07:52 > 0:07:54to need is some sticky memo notes,

0:07:54 > 0:07:59a pen and your imagination.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03You can make this animation in just three ninja moves.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05Ninja Move Number One.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Take the last page of your sticky memo book,

0:08:07 > 0:08:10that's where you'll draw your first frame.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12Now, I'm going to be doing a motorcyclist jumping over

0:08:12 > 0:08:14some of these rad little cars.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16So - going to start drawing my motorcyclist.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18Draw its first frame.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Put a little helmet on this person here. Safety first.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Then flick to the next page

0:08:23 > 0:08:26and trace some aspects of your motorcyclist through.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28But what I'm going to do is trace it slightly higher,

0:08:28 > 0:08:31so it looks like the engine's running and they're bobbing up and

0:08:31 > 0:08:32down as the engine ticks over.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34Just flick that between like that.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36And you can see that's starting to animate.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38'Ninja Move Number Two.'

0:08:38 > 0:08:40You've got to continue to draw all your frames

0:08:40 > 0:08:43through your sticky memo book - all the way to the top.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46Now this bit takes quite a bit of time, so let's time-lapse.

0:08:46 > 0:08:51In case you're wondering, that's my mate Rich, who helped me film this.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55Phew, right, once you've drawn all your frames all you have to

0:08:55 > 0:08:58do is flip the book from back to front to make the animation work.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01You can see the little motorcyclist riding along.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04I've even done a bit of fumes coming out the back to show

0:09:04 > 0:09:06the engine's running and a couple of skids.

0:09:06 > 0:09:07Vroom!

0:09:07 > 0:09:09And something special for the stunt.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11'Ninja Move Number Three.'

0:09:11 > 0:09:15Create the assault course for your motorcyclist.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18So I'm going to have a little ramp over here.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21And let's put some little cars for them to jump.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Pick-up truck.

0:09:23 > 0:09:25It's kind of weird jumping over a big wheel,

0:09:25 > 0:09:27but that's going to happen too.

0:09:27 > 0:09:28And...fire engine.

0:09:28 > 0:09:33And then I'm going to have a little area for them to land on.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35A little landing pad, you know I'm a nice guy.

0:09:35 > 0:09:37OK, let's test our bike.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40If we flick the flick book and move it along the table at the same

0:09:40 > 0:09:43time, it creates the illusion that the bike's actually driving along.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Yeah, it works.

0:09:47 > 0:09:49And now we're ready for the death-defying stunt.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Ninja fingers away.

0:10:07 > 0:10:10Yeah. Awesome fun animation without any fancy pants kit.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Why not see what you can create with some memo notes, a pen

0:10:13 > 0:10:16and your imagination.

0:10:16 > 0:10:17Ricky out.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24BELL RINGS

0:10:24 > 0:10:26- Oh, hi, Dad.- Hi, Ricky. - What have you got there?

0:10:26 > 0:10:30I've been clearing out the attic. There's loads of your rubbish there.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32That's all I need, more rubbish.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34Oh, take that. Oh.

0:10:34 > 0:10:36- Thank you. - Oh, my arms.

0:10:36 > 0:10:39There you go - one of your old robots in there

0:10:39 > 0:10:42and your fluffy kangaroo, Skippy. You used to love him.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45It's a bit more like rubbish Skippy these days.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47And you used to love this - your old pogo stick.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49- Oh, I must give that a go.- Must go.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51- Bye, Dad. - Or should that be "pogo".

0:10:51 > 0:10:53Bye, Dad!

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Hey, cotton buds. I wonder what these are for.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00I know, I could use them

0:11:00 > 0:11:04to make a painting of this robot made up of tiny dots.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06Just grab some paper.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10And I'm going to draw myself a couple of guidelines before I start.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16'I'm drawing my robot, but you can do anything.'

0:11:16 > 0:11:19That's my outline done.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Now I'm going to use the cotton buds to make the points on my picture.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25I'm going to start putting silver round the robot's head.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29'This technique is called pointillism

0:11:29 > 0:11:34'and is often associated with the artist Georges Seurat.'

0:11:34 > 0:11:38You find that the more you use the cotton buds the bigger the end gets

0:11:38 > 0:11:40and it's hard to get a nice, defined dot.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43But the great thing about cotton buds is you can just turn around

0:11:43 > 0:11:46and you've got another end you can use.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50Right, I think that's enough with the silver,

0:11:50 > 0:11:52let's move on to some red.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55Bonjour, je m'appelle Georges Seurat.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57As you know, this technique is called pointillism.

0:11:57 > 0:11:59What's that, Seurat?

0:11:59 > 0:12:03The point of pointillism is to paint points of pure separate colour,

0:12:03 > 0:12:05which from a distance would make your eyes mix the colour.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09Gives a whole new meaning to seeing spots in front of your eyes.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11Computer monitors work in much the same way,

0:12:11 > 0:12:14with their pixels acting like my spots.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16I was way ahead of my time.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Talking of which, you'd better get on with your robot.

0:12:19 > 0:12:23Seurat, you only painted seven big paintings in your whole life.

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Oui, my most famous one,

0:12:25 > 0:12:29A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte,

0:12:29 > 0:12:32took two years, but you only have a couple of minutes.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34Thanks for that, Seurat.

0:12:36 > 0:12:40He's got red outlines through his eyes, so we'll do those first.

0:12:43 > 0:12:45I can't believe Dad brought more stuff round

0:12:45 > 0:12:47when I've just finished cleaning up the flat.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50Still, I think it's going to make a tidy picture.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Right, let's add some nice yellow in there.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59I wonder what robot would say about this picture.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02- Probably... - HE BEEPS

0:13:02 > 0:13:05Or something like that.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10It's starting to come together now.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13I think I'll add a little bit more silver on the top.

0:13:13 > 0:13:15Now I'm going to mix a bit of black and silver together

0:13:15 > 0:13:19to get a dark silver to do some shadows and some worn areas.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Adds a little bit of texture and depth.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29There we are.

0:13:29 > 0:13:33I'd say that's finished and it looks awesome.

0:13:33 > 0:13:36Just going to put a frame on it.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40The robot pointillism picture.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42- AS ROBOT:- You could make one too!

0:13:48 > 0:13:51- PHONE RINGS - It's probably my mum.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54She's the only one who ever calls.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56- MACHINE BEEPS - Hi, Ricky. It's your mum.

0:13:56 > 0:13:59Thought I'd give you a call to remind you

0:13:59 > 0:14:02what you're going to be doing today.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04You'll be printing an underwater scene,

0:14:04 > 0:14:07finding out how to fashion a sock ninja

0:14:07 > 0:14:11and doing some pointillism painting using your old pogo stick.

0:14:13 > 0:14:16- How does she know all this? - And don't forget to flush the loo.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19Whenever you go to the toilet you always...

0:14:19 > 0:14:21Oh-ho! That's enough of that.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23- Is it lunch yet? - ALL: Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!

0:14:24 > 0:14:28Better hold lunch. What can I help you guys with?

0:14:28 > 0:14:30What can you make with old library cards?

0:14:30 > 0:14:33A library card? Let's book it in for later.

0:14:33 > 0:14:37BOTH: Ricky, what can you do with these toothbrushes?

0:14:37 > 0:14:41- You've got some cheek. Maybe another time.- BOTH: Aww.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44BOTH: Ricky. What can you make with this?

0:14:45 > 0:14:49- These guys look interesting. I choose you.- Yeah!

0:14:52 > 0:14:55- What are your names?- I'm Shae. - And I'm Ellie.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58- Lovely to meet you guys. And where are you from?- Wolverhampton.

0:14:58 > 0:15:03- So what have you got for me today? - A pizza base.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05I don't think I can do anything with an actual pizza base

0:15:05 > 0:15:08but maybe the bit of polystyrene that comes underneath in the box,

0:15:08 > 0:15:10I can do some art with that.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12I've got loads of those lying around.

0:15:12 > 0:15:16Right, here we go. I've got my polystyrene pizza base.

0:15:16 > 0:15:22- Wow.- And I'm going to use it to make a print of a goldfish bowl.

0:15:22 > 0:15:25I like fish on pizza. Love a bit of anchovies.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27- Ugh!- What's wrong with that?

0:15:29 > 0:15:31There we go.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34I'm using a pencil to push the lines into the pizza base

0:15:34 > 0:15:39and these impressions won't be printed when I roll paint over it.

0:15:39 > 0:15:43They'll come out as white lines. Is there any art you like doing?

0:15:43 > 0:15:45- I'm quite into painting and doing... - Drawing.

0:15:45 > 0:15:49But actually, yeah. I like... I'm into modelling.

0:15:49 > 0:15:51I do lots of things at home with clay.

0:15:51 > 0:15:54Sounds great.

0:15:54 > 0:15:59I've drawn my fish, but now I'm drawing a couple of little reeds.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01My flat is a bit of a mess today and my mum was calling me

0:16:01 > 0:16:03and having a go about having to tidy it up.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06How are you guys at keeping your place tidy?

0:16:06 > 0:16:09- You don't want to know.- No. - That makes me feel better.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12What hasn't helped with my mess today is my dad's brought back

0:16:12 > 0:16:15loads of my old toys and games.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17OK, guys, do you want to see it so far?

0:16:17 > 0:16:21- Yeah.- Yes.- OK. Here it is.- Ooh.

0:16:21 > 0:16:23- A fish.- A fish in a fishbowl.

0:16:23 > 0:16:25And my circular thing makes it into a fishbowl.

0:16:25 > 0:16:29- But now's the cool bit, yeah? - Cool bit.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33I've got with me some paint and a roller.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35Put some blue paint into it.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38You need quite a lot.

0:16:39 > 0:16:43You'll have fun when you do this. Right, here we go.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46I'm just getting the roller all full of the paint.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49There we go. Start rolling it on.

0:16:49 > 0:16:53I'm just rolling it round now, over the fish.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56Just be a little bit careful here not to go over the edges too much

0:16:56 > 0:16:59and get it all over the top. I'm doing it in the kitchen as well,

0:16:59 > 0:17:02so the surfaces are pretty easy to wipe clean.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05'Make sure you put something down on your surface when you have a go.'

0:17:05 > 0:17:08- OK, guys, I've got it all nice and covered.- I want to see.- Yeah.

0:17:08 > 0:17:12I'm not going to show you yet. I'm going to print it then show you.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14- BOTH: Aw!- Right.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16Printing, printing, printing.

0:17:21 > 0:17:24Push it down, make sure all the paint comes off.

0:17:24 > 0:17:25You turn it over as well.

0:17:25 > 0:17:29Going to rub it on the back just to make sure you've got

0:17:29 > 0:17:31all the shape of the whole picture.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34- Come on!- OK, guys, we're going to peel it off now.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36Drum roll, please.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39Have to be quite quick, otherwise the paint dries to the paper.

0:17:41 > 0:17:45Here we go. Oh, yeah. I think you are going to like this.

0:17:45 > 0:17:51- Are you ready to see it?- BOTH: Yeah. - OK, guys, what do you think of this?

0:17:52 > 0:17:54- That's awesome.- It's amazing.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57So, guys, what would you score it?

0:17:57 > 0:18:00BOTH: Erm, probably... Yeah.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03110%!

0:18:03 > 0:18:05110%? That's not even possible.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08'I know that and I'm not even a maths ninja.'

0:18:08 > 0:18:11Right, let's give it a little frame.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16Great bit of art.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19My fishbowl picture made on a pizza base.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21See if you could top that.

0:18:21 > 0:18:23Thanks very much for your help today. Bye-bye.

0:18:23 > 0:18:27- BOTH: Bye, Ricky!- I can finally eat.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Do you know what? You can do art everywhere.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34Check this out.

0:19:01 > 0:19:05MUSIC: Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky

0:19:05 > 0:19:07Now, there you are - my cupcake ballerina.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10I'm sure you can do something equally as tasty.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12- DOORBELL RINGS - Oh, hey, Gav.

0:19:12 > 0:19:16- Hello, mate. What's all this then? - Oh, it's just a box of my old trash.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18I remember this. You loved him.

0:19:18 > 0:19:21You took him, like, everywhere with you.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24You did stop that eventually though. Last year.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27- Yeah, all right. Give me that. - Oh! Can I borrow this?

0:19:27 > 0:19:29I used to be pretty nippy on a pogo stick.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33- Mate, be my guest. You know, hop off.- See you then.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36Gavin's talents run deep

0:19:36 > 0:19:39and here's a quick art tip that will add depth to your work.

0:19:39 > 0:19:42I'm going to start by drawing a horizon line

0:19:42 > 0:19:46and I'm going to draw some little mountains over the side.

0:19:46 > 0:19:50As they're far in the distance, maybe some snow on top

0:19:50 > 0:19:52and some up here.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55The further things are away the smaller they are, so even though

0:19:55 > 0:19:58the mountains are huge, they're quite small in the distance.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01I'm going to draw some animals just below the horizon line.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04I'm making this sheep quite big at the front of the picture,

0:20:04 > 0:20:07so it appears near to us, and I'm going to draw another sheep

0:20:07 > 0:20:10midway between the first sheep and the mountains.

0:20:10 > 0:20:14As things move backwards, they get closer to the horizon line.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17Now I'm going to do some little shrubs of grass,

0:20:17 > 0:20:23bigger at the front, getting smaller to the back.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28There. The different-sized objects have given my picture depth.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31There's a quick art tip.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35See what you can do.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37Ewe, get it? Female sheep.

0:20:41 > 0:20:45Hey, you there!

0:20:45 > 0:20:48Oh, this guy's odd and his style sucks.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51- Do you have odd socks? - I said sucks!

0:20:51 > 0:20:54Odd socks suck but they don't have to any more

0:20:54 > 0:20:58because you can turn them into the sock ninja.

0:21:00 > 0:21:04Here's how you make it. Eugh!

0:21:04 > 0:21:08Stuff cotton wool in an old sock and use hair bands or elastic bands

0:21:08 > 0:21:13to keep it in and make a head for your sock ninja.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16Cut out the heel of your sock.

0:21:16 > 0:21:19Keep that - you'll need it later.

0:21:20 > 0:21:24Make some slices for the body and the arms and use a needle

0:21:24 > 0:21:29and thread to sew them, stuffing with cotton wool as you go.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34Secure the hands with bands.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37Hello there!

0:21:37 > 0:21:41Cut, sew and stuff the other half of the sock to make legs

0:21:41 > 0:21:44and then sew them on.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46Very springy.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51Using felt, cut out shapes to add detail and use glue

0:21:51 > 0:21:54to attach them to your ninja.

0:21:55 > 0:22:00Stick on eyes, headband...

0:22:01 > 0:22:09..ears, mouth and sash to complete the full ninja effect.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14The sock ninja makes a great toy.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18Now you no longer have to throw your odd socks.

0:22:19 > 0:22:23Unless you're using them as a ball of course.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26That looks fun. Where can I get one?

0:22:27 > 0:22:30Those 3D tellies are good these days.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33I wonder if Gav's up for a laugh.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36I'll go and find him. What's that, Skippy?

0:22:36 > 0:22:39You want to come too? All right.

0:22:47 > 0:22:51- Ninja skills. How you doing, guys? - Hey, Ricky.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Rick, look! I've got pretty good at this pogo stick I borrowed

0:22:54 > 0:22:57and I got Michelle and Sarah involved as well.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00There's only one thing for it. Let's have a pogo party.

0:23:11 > 0:23:13Oh, no!

0:23:13 > 0:23:16Oh. This gives me an idea.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19Let's make this pogo party arty.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22But first, we need to get our ninja on.

0:23:29 > 0:23:32Art Ninja. Come on, guys.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36- Art Ninja?- Art Ninja?

0:23:38 > 0:23:42Right, come on, guys. Give me a hand with this tarp. Roll it out.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45- Ah, we're kicking then. - We're kicking it.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53- Oh, is this our canvas? - It is our canvas.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57- Right. Who wants to help me put one of these together?- Let's do it.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02- We need to make our customised brushes.- Right.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05And we're doing this by actually attaching a little sponge

0:24:05 > 0:24:07on the bottom of our pogo sticks.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10We're going to be putting paint out on this board,

0:24:10 > 0:24:13dipping these bad boys in it and then painting our picture.

0:24:13 > 0:24:16- So safety first, guys. Go run and get your helmets.- OK. Sweet.

0:24:18 > 0:24:22OK, guys. I'm going to show you how a ninja does it.

0:24:26 > 0:24:30- That is so cool.- That looks rad.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33Hey, Ricks, what do you call this technique?

0:24:33 > 0:24:36Well, painting pictures with dots is called pointillism

0:24:36 > 0:24:40but as I'm using a pogo stick I'd really like to call it pogoism.

0:24:43 > 0:24:45Pick a colour each.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48Splat it out on your board and let's start painting.

0:24:48 > 0:24:52- PAINT SQUELCHES - You're like you're enjoying that.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54Yeah, Gavin, yeah!

0:24:56 > 0:24:59- Now splat! And let's po-go! - THEY CHEER

0:25:02 > 0:25:06So, Gavin, just start filling in this area here. OK.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09OK, you're going to come along here.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12If you could try and just accent that a little bit.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15I think the painting's really coming together.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18I wonder if they know what it is yet.

0:25:18 > 0:25:21It's kind of obvious, with all the hopping.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27Right, we're nearly there, guys. We are nearly there.

0:25:28 > 0:25:31There's no need to pogo any further.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34I think we have a masterpiece on our hands.

0:25:34 > 0:25:38- Or more like beneath our feet. - Awesome.- Yeah.

0:25:38 > 0:25:40Yeah, that's more like it. Check it out.

0:25:40 > 0:25:44- It's amazing! Nice, man. - That's awesome. Really cool.- Wicked.

0:25:50 > 0:25:52This is one of my favourite pieces.

0:25:56 > 0:26:01Inspired by my only childhood friend, Skippy the kangaroo.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03- Aw!- Oh, look at him.

0:26:03 > 0:26:07This is all for you then, old Skip, mate. What do you think?

0:26:08 > 0:26:12You think it's rubbish? I think you're rubbish, you...

0:26:12 > 0:26:15- HE GRUNTS - I'm going to have words with you.

0:26:15 > 0:26:18Remember you did a drawing of me I said was a perfect likeness?

0:26:18 > 0:26:20Well, it was rubbish...

0:26:26 > 0:26:29I can't believe the cheek of that kangaroo.

0:26:33 > 0:26:35Well, that's that. Time to get back to the flat.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52You didn't really think I'd get rid of him, did you?

0:26:52 > 0:26:54I was just throwing away the old paint.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58Today has taught me a valuable Art Ninja lesson

0:26:58 > 0:27:01- you can turn your old trash into art treasure,

0:27:01 > 0:27:04but pogoing brings both pain and pleasure.

0:27:05 > 0:27:09I don't know about you, Skip, but I'm ready for my kip.

0:27:09 > 0:27:11You're one toy I could never throw out.

0:27:13 > 0:27:15Night, Skippy.

0:27:15 > 0:27:17Night, Ricky.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19ARRGH!

0:27:27 > 0:27:32To get your Art Ninja on, go to the CBBC website. Ninja skills!
