0:00:03 > 0:00:05'I'm Ricky. I live in Bristol.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07'By day, I work as an animator,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10'which is lucky because I love art.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13'I live for art. I even dream of art!

0:00:13 > 0:00:15'I draw...

0:00:15 > 0:00:17'I paint...

0:00:17 > 0:00:19'I make things!

0:00:21 > 0:00:26'I hang out with my mates, Gavin, Michelle and Sarah.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29'Most importantly, I make ninja moves.

0:00:29 > 0:00:34- 'Some people call me the...' - 'Art Ninja!'

0:00:34 > 0:00:37'Today, I'll show you how to make a Venus flytrap

0:00:37 > 0:00:40'that will rock your universe.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43'Get stuck into alien gloop.

0:00:43 > 0:00:47'And it's real blast when I mow some amazing maze art.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50'Because today, it's...'

0:00:51 > 0:00:53'Day of the Aliens!'

0:00:55 > 0:00:57PARANORMAL BLEEPING

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Ah! What a strange dream.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06It was almost extraterrestrial.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09I could have sworn I was visited by aliens.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Anyway, time to get my ninja on!

0:01:14 > 0:01:16And my clothes.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43That's the fifth weird alien dream I've had in the past month.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46I wonder if there's any significance in the number five?

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Anyway, breakfast time.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Oh!

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Brown flakes?

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Hopefully, there's something more interesting up there.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Oh, yeah! Flying saucer sweets. I forgot I had these!

0:02:02 > 0:02:04I need somewhere to stash them, you know,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06so the aliens don't pinch them.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08That gives me an idea!

0:02:08 > 0:02:12I'm going to make a Venus flytrap to stash my sweets in.

0:02:12 > 0:02:17'The Art Ninja Venus flytrap. It's totally sweet!'

0:02:17 > 0:02:19I'm going to do that by blowing up a balloon.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27OK, tie it on the end.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29I've got a bowl here to hold the balloon still

0:02:29 > 0:02:31while I cover in a layer of papier-mache.

0:02:31 > 0:02:36That's two parts PVA glue, one part water and some old newspaper.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41You want to get a good coverage all the way around,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43all the way down to the bottom.

0:02:43 > 0:02:47Just leaving the little knot sticking out.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53You don't have to be too neat

0:02:53 > 0:02:55because all these creases and crumply bits

0:02:55 > 0:02:57will add to the final texture.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58Now, if you're doing one of these,

0:02:58 > 0:03:02you'll probably have to do a few more layers and wait for it to dry.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06But me, I'm just going to use my ninja skills.

0:03:06 > 0:03:07Nice!

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Now, the papier-mache mix has dried nice and hard

0:03:10 > 0:03:13and we no longer need the balloon to hold its shape, so we can pop that.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18OK.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Now I'm going to draw a line around the balloon,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23just below the halfway mark.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29Then I'm going to draw some wavy lines for the teeth.

0:03:34 > 0:03:35And the same along the bottom.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41I'm going to poke a hole through the papier-mache with a pencil

0:03:41 > 0:03:43so that I can get my scissors in.

0:03:44 > 0:03:48These are going to make the jaws of my Venus flytrap.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58Nice! Now I'm going to chop the teeth out.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05So we have the top and bottom all finished,

0:04:05 > 0:04:07but this Venus flytrap is going to need a stalk.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10And we're going to make that using a cardboard tube.

0:04:12 > 0:04:13'I'm cutting slits down the side

0:04:13 > 0:04:16'so that it's easier to secure to the papier-mache.'

0:04:20 > 0:04:23This is a very sticky piece of art.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27Great. Look, that's on nice and solid.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Now is probably a good time to paint the inside.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32Yeah!

0:04:38 > 0:04:40Now I've done the inside of the mouth,

0:04:40 > 0:04:43it's time to do the outside of the plant. Yeah, there is it!

0:04:43 > 0:04:45It's all those greens.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52You can now how all that rough newspaper comes through

0:04:52 > 0:04:53as a really nice texture.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00Right, I think that's all done.

0:05:00 > 0:05:01Now, if you're doing this,

0:05:01 > 0:05:04you'll need to wait for these to dry now, but I wait for nothing.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06I'm the Art Ninja!

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Also, I've added a little bit of detail with some lighter paint

0:05:11 > 0:05:15to bring out the texture. A little touch around the edge of the jaw.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17And some spots and dots on the underside of the jaw.

0:05:17 > 0:05:20I've punched through some holes in the top and bottom of the jaw

0:05:20 > 0:05:25on each side so I can slide in some split pins and give it a hinge jaw.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32This guy's looking pretty good now,

0:05:32 > 0:05:36but he could do with some foliage, so let's add some leaves.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44Right, all his foliage is on. It's time to pot him.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47And I've got here...a little pot of rice.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50And now you get your Venus flytrap...

0:05:51 > 0:05:52..and get him in the pot.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Now, he's looking good, but I'd take sweets straight out of that mouth,

0:05:59 > 0:06:02so you need something to work as a deterrent

0:06:02 > 0:06:04and I reckon some nice big teeth.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07Oh, yeah! Nice sharp gnashers.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10'I've made these out of white paper.'

0:06:10 > 0:06:12And how about this?

0:06:15 > 0:06:18A little tongue and added fly.

0:06:18 > 0:06:21Looks good, but he's definitely worked up a hunger.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Put the sweets in.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42'You don't have to make a Venus flytrap to store your sweets.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45'How about some lovely colourful flowers?'

0:06:47 > 0:06:49I wonder what time it is?

0:06:49 > 0:06:52Oh, I know what time it is. It's animation o'clock.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58I really do love a good walk around Bristol.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01There's beautiful colours, lots of variation in the landscape

0:07:01 > 0:07:03and there's always something going on. Just look at that!

0:07:12 > 0:07:15Good grief, that got out of hand pretty quickly.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17This kind of animation is called cut-out animation

0:07:17 > 0:07:18and it's really easy to do.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20If you do it using photographs,

0:07:20 > 0:07:23it gives off this really surreal sense and is always really funny.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25I'll show you how to do it.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28All you need to make a little rad cut-out animation is

0:07:28 > 0:07:31some postcards or photographs. Here's some I've taken.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34A pair of scissors and a table or smartphone.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37There's lots of free animation software you can find online.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40'And you can make this animation in just three ninja moves.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42'Ninja move number one.'

0:07:42 > 0:07:44Get some photographs. You might just take some,

0:07:44 > 0:07:47or if you've got any old postcards, they're pretty good, too.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50I've got some here from when I visited my friend's chicken farm,

0:07:50 > 0:07:52when I went to the beach.

0:07:52 > 0:07:54There's one of my friend Gemma in there.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57And, of course, what I'm going to use as the main scene

0:07:57 > 0:07:59is this picture of Bristol I took

0:07:59 > 0:08:01because it's got the river in it and a bit of depth.

0:08:01 > 0:08:03So I've got some places where things can pop out.

0:08:03 > 0:08:04'Ninja move number two.'

0:08:04 > 0:08:07Decide what will happen in your animation and get the bits ready.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10I might have this tower blast off,

0:08:10 > 0:08:13I might have the chicken pop up behind something.

0:08:13 > 0:08:14My friend might take a picture.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17One of these boots could stamp on a building. That would be fun.

0:08:17 > 0:08:18Let's just start with that.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21So I'm going to be cutting out these separate parts here.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24What I'm actually going to do on this one is cut out the sky.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28I've got a spare bit of blue paper here, which is going to replace it.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32It'll be easier to have things pop out underneath as a different layer.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35I've got another tower, so I'm going to cut that one out.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37And if I pop this in where the other one used to be,

0:08:37 > 0:08:40because it's, like, a separate layer, I can animate this, going...

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Whoosh! Out from behind the trees.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45It's fun to mess around with scale when you're doing these things.

0:08:45 > 0:08:46It makes it a lot weirder.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50You put something out of place, but also it's giant or really small.

0:08:50 > 0:08:52IMITATES CHICKEN

0:08:52 > 0:08:54He's a good-looking chicken!

0:08:55 > 0:08:58I might keep this bit here because I could use all these nice

0:08:58 > 0:09:01stony sort of orangey colours as the fire for the rocket.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04I could use that black and white as the smoke for the rocket.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06This bit's perfect.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09And I could use the back as a bit of white for her flash.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11'Ninja move number three.'

0:09:11 > 0:09:14Get animating. Time to open up my animation app.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20It has begun. OK, first thing I'm going to have

0:09:20 > 0:09:23is a person popping out here and taking a picture.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26So I'm cutting this line along where the buildings are

0:09:26 > 0:09:30so it looks like she's coming up between the trees and the buildings.

0:09:30 > 0:09:33What I'm doing here is I'm making the character wiggle a little bit.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36And that's to give the illusion that they're, like, talking.

0:09:36 > 0:09:37Hello!

0:09:37 > 0:09:39Don't worry about making mouths move.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42I think in this style, the cruder the better.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45'Every time you move a bit of paper, take a photo,

0:09:45 > 0:09:47'you're building your animation.'

0:09:52 > 0:09:54OK, that's all the frames.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56Right, I'm going to add some sound effects.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58Hello! Snap! Pfft!

0:09:58 > 0:10:01W-W-W-W-Whoosh! Squawk!

0:10:01 > 0:10:03Now it's ready for the big reveal.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09Hello!

0:10:09 > 0:10:10Boom!

0:10:10 > 0:10:13W-W-W-W-Whoosh!

0:10:15 > 0:10:17Now, I'd say that is a mini masterpiece.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23PHONE RINGS

0:10:26 > 0:10:28- BEEP! - "Hi, Ricky, it's your mum.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31"I just wanted to remind you what's coming up today.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34"You're going to make alien life with poseable limbs.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37"You'll be rubbing out to make outer space.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40"And you might be cutting corners with some lawn art.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44"Anyway, Ricky, better go. I'm off to paint at my life class.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46"The nude model couldn't turn up,

0:10:46 > 0:10:49"so your dad's agreed to stand in at the last minute."

0:10:49 > 0:10:51- Oh!- "Bye!"

0:10:51 > 0:10:53BEEP!

0:10:53 > 0:10:55Life class!

0:10:55 > 0:10:57Maybe I'll make my own alien life class

0:10:57 > 0:10:59by making my own alien figures.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01A bit like these doodles that I did earlier

0:11:01 > 0:11:04in the style of American artist Keith Haring.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06But a little bit more poseable.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08- Hi, Ricky!- Whoa! Who are you?

0:11:08 > 0:11:12It's me, man, Keith Haring. I was an American artist

0:11:12 > 0:11:15and my earliest work was graffiti in subways.

0:11:15 > 0:11:17Here's one of my famous pictures.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19I became known for these bold figures,

0:11:19 > 0:11:22and messages of love and unity for all humanity.

0:11:22 > 0:11:26Keith, I'm going to unite your work with something a little less human.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28Right-on, man!

0:11:28 > 0:11:31I'm going to get myself some card and a pen from here

0:11:31 > 0:11:35and I'm going to draw the separate limbs and parts of an alien.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39Here's the head with three antennae.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43A nice, big, round body.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48How many legs shall we have? Three legs?

0:11:48 > 0:11:50Well, he is an alien!

0:11:51 > 0:11:53There you go. And now I'll cut that out.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56Remember to be careful when you're using scissors,

0:11:56 > 0:11:58or get a sensible adult to help you.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01I wonder if having three legs would make you better at football?

0:12:01 > 0:12:03It probably wouldn't make you better at dancing.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08I've kept my shapes boxy and bold

0:12:08 > 0:12:10as this is, of course, inspired by Keith.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13But you could do whatever you want with yours.

0:12:13 > 0:12:14There we go.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18And now I'm going to attach all the limbs, using these split pins.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21First, I need to make some holes.

0:12:21 > 0:12:22'Use some modelling clay and a pencil

0:12:22 > 0:12:25'to push holes in all the alien's body parts.'

0:12:29 > 0:12:33And punching holes just makes it easier to get your split pins in.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36So slide them through and open them up on the back.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40'Repeat this until all the body parts are attached.'

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Because they are split pins, it means that you can move him around

0:12:46 > 0:12:48in lots of different fun poses.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51Right, I'm going to get some green paper...

0:12:52 > 0:12:55..and lay it down. Then I'm going to draw around him.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58'Because the card is raised slightly off the paper,

0:12:58 > 0:13:00'it's easier to draw around the alien.'

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Right, I'm going to cut him out.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08I'm just cutting out the overall shape of him

0:13:08 > 0:13:12and I'm going to back and pick up these little recesses here.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19Cool! Little green man looking good.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21Now I'm going to do another one on some blue paper.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24Just going to make a new pose.

0:13:24 > 0:13:26Maybe two legs down, one leg up.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30You might find it easier to sticky-tack down your alien

0:13:30 > 0:13:33when you draw around him to stop him from moving.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39There we are, another alien figure.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42Right, I could do with a couple more of these.

0:13:42 > 0:13:46Maybe in some more colours. So I'll ninja myself some new ones.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49Got a lovely yellow one and a pink one, too.

0:13:49 > 0:13:52So I'm going to get myself a bit of backing paper.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57And start positioning them in a way that I like.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59I kind of think that's a good look.

0:13:59 > 0:14:02Then I'm going to glue-stick them down.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04All these cool poses we've made

0:14:04 > 0:14:07really make the picture look like it's full of energy.

0:14:07 > 0:14:10Having a party that's truly out of this world.

0:14:10 > 0:14:12'Once they're all stuck down,

0:14:12 > 0:14:14'draw around the aliens in black pen to make them stand out.'

0:14:18 > 0:14:20Right, so there we are. Look at these lot.

0:14:20 > 0:14:23Nice and bright, black lines really making them pop out.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26But they're missing that final Keith Haring touch.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29And that's little lines here and there to accent the movement.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36There we are. Now all it needs is a frame.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40Isn't that great? Little green men and women.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44Well, and blue ones and pink ones and yellow ones!

0:14:44 > 0:14:47Wow, Rick! Those people are out of this world, literally!

0:14:47 > 0:14:50Not too bad, eh, Keith?

0:14:50 > 0:14:53'I've done people from another planet. If you plan it well,

0:14:53 > 0:14:56'you could make your own Keith Haring-inspired picture.'

0:15:00 > 0:15:01BOTH: Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!

0:15:01 > 0:15:05What on earth...? Oh! It's my ninja assistants.

0:15:05 > 0:15:06What can I do for you guys?

0:15:06 > 0:15:09BOTH: What can you make with these?

0:15:09 > 0:15:10A picture you've already done?

0:15:10 > 0:15:12That's already good art. I can't make it better.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18- Ricky, Ricky, Ricky! - I pick you!- Yay!

0:15:18 > 0:15:20So, what's your name, then?

0:15:20 > 0:15:22I'm Marco and I'm from Glasgow.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24So, Marco, what have you got for me today?

0:15:24 > 0:15:26What can you make with an eraser?

0:15:26 > 0:15:30An eraser? Well, normally with an eraser, we rub out pictures.

0:15:30 > 0:15:34But I think I can create one. I'll just go and grab my stuff.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37Right, so I'm going to be drawing a picture with an eraser.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40So I need something to rub out first, don't I?

0:15:40 > 0:15:45So I'm going to do a wash across my entire page with some charcoal.

0:15:45 > 0:15:46Get the whole thing nice and dark.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55And I think I'm going to do an astronaut picture.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57Because what's nice and dark?

0:15:57 > 0:15:58Space!

0:16:00 > 0:16:03So, Marco, do you believe in aliens and things?

0:16:03 > 0:16:05- Yes. - What do you reckon they'd look like?

0:16:05 > 0:16:08- I think they would be green. - They'd be green?

0:16:08 > 0:16:11- Yes.- It would be rude if they weren't green, wouldn't it?

0:16:14 > 0:16:17Right, so I've managed to make my paper nice and dark.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19My hands are dirty.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22Now I'm going to start drawing my picture by rubbing out the charcoal.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25So I'm going to start with the curvature of the earth.

0:16:28 > 0:16:29The sun just bouncing off it there.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33I think I'll leave some areas dark because that can be like landmass.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35And I'm going to rub out where the ocean should be.

0:16:35 > 0:16:39Because then it's like the sun's reflecting off the oceans.

0:16:39 > 0:16:40So, Marco, do you like space?

0:16:40 > 0:16:42I like the planet Mars.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44You like the planet Mars? Why is that?

0:16:44 > 0:16:46Because it's starts with my name.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48Oh! Good choice!

0:16:48 > 0:16:50Excellent. That's the earth there.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52I'm going to do the moon.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55'When you have a go, you can make a picture of whatever you like.

0:16:55 > 0:16:57'The sky's the limit.'

0:16:57 > 0:16:59The sun bouncing off one side of it.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02Space needs the astronaut, doesn't it?

0:17:02 > 0:17:04An astronaut's going to be floating around doing a spacewalk.

0:17:04 > 0:17:07So I'm going to start drawing an astronaut in here.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14Let's draw one arm. Yeah!

0:17:19 > 0:17:23That's his oxygen pipe there, going round. Start doing his legs.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26I reckon to spacewalk or moonwalk, you need to have legs.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34It's quite nice drawing in reverse.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39And, of course, let's just pop in a couple of stars.

0:17:42 > 0:17:43More than a couple of stars.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45OK, like, a million stars.

0:17:45 > 0:17:47Yeah, that would be better!

0:17:47 > 0:17:51I'm just going to use the charcoal to put a couple of darker areas in.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57Let's put some creases into his spacesuit...elbow.

0:18:00 > 0:18:02OK, Marco, are you ready to see it?

0:18:02 > 0:18:04- Yes!- Prepare for blastoff!

0:18:07 > 0:18:09- Whoa! - What do you think? Do you like it?

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Yes, I do!

0:18:11 > 0:18:13So, what would you score it out of ten?

0:18:13 > 0:18:15Hopefully not an astro-nought.

0:18:15 > 0:18:17Ten out of ten?

0:18:17 > 0:18:19Ah, yes! That's an awesome score!

0:18:19 > 0:18:22I think all the picture needs now is a lovely border to finish it off.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27Great suggestion, Marco. Thanks very much for your help.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30- Have a good one. Bye-bye!- Bye!

0:18:33 > 0:18:36'Why don't you use an eraser to raise your art to another level?'

0:18:39 > 0:18:41Here's a real quick art tip.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43How to make a rocket blast off into space

0:18:43 > 0:18:46to discover maybe some extraterrestrial business.

0:18:46 > 0:18:50So I'm going to start with a rocket shape up there, like that.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52Nice point on the end.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56Then some wings at the back.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03An exhaust. Nice line there on the tip.

0:19:03 > 0:19:06And I need to draw the passenger in the middle.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10Now to make my rocket blast off, I'm going to put fire

0:19:10 > 0:19:15using these zigzag lines and some smoke trailing behind.

0:19:16 > 0:19:20Now I'm going to add a couple of action lines around it...

0:19:20 > 0:19:22to show its energy.

0:19:22 > 0:19:23And then, of course, it's in space,

0:19:23 > 0:19:25so I'm going to add some space surroundings.

0:19:25 > 0:19:29And that is a nice planet here and stars.

0:19:31 > 0:19:32There you go.

0:19:34 > 0:19:35A quick art tip.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42BOING-BOING!

0:19:42 > 0:19:43CRUNCH!

0:19:43 > 0:19:44BELCH!

0:19:47 > 0:19:49Hey, you there!

0:19:49 > 0:19:51Not this guy again.

0:19:51 > 0:19:52It's me again!

0:19:52 > 0:19:54How would you like a product

0:19:54 > 0:19:58that's been developed by the international space agency?

0:19:58 > 0:20:01He's been developed by the international space agency.

0:20:01 > 0:20:05You can create your own alien gloop!

0:20:05 > 0:20:07Told you.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12'Here's how you make it!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15'You need a bowl of cornflour.

0:20:16 > 0:20:19'A jug of water.

0:20:19 > 0:20:22'Add a small amount to the bowl.

0:20:22 > 0:20:26'Grab some poster paint. Green is very now for aliens.

0:20:26 > 0:20:30'Squeeze some paint into the bowl.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33'Other colours are available.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35'Stir vigorously.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37'Keep stirring and adding water gradually

0:20:37 > 0:20:41'to get the right gloopy consistency.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44'It has a strange intergalactic feel.

0:20:47 > 0:20:53'It can snap and dribble through your fingers. Freaky!'

0:20:54 > 0:20:56Alien gloop!

0:20:56 > 0:21:00A great substitute for green bogeymen.

0:21:02 > 0:21:04'Beam me up, Snotty!

0:21:05 > 0:21:08I wish I had some of that green alien gloop.

0:21:08 > 0:21:09KNOCK AT DOOR

0:21:11 > 0:21:13ALIEN VOICE: Delivery for Ricky.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15Three pots of alien gloop.

0:21:15 > 0:21:17Sign here, please.

0:21:21 > 0:21:23That's weird.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29There's been numbers everywhere.

0:21:29 > 0:21:34We've had the dates 4, 6, 9, 21 and 25. Five dates.

0:21:34 > 0:21:37I got ten out of ten for my astronaut picture.

0:21:37 > 0:21:39What does it all mean?

0:21:39 > 0:21:41RICKY SIGHS

0:21:41 > 0:21:44This is my thinking pose. It means I may have an idea.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51The numbers could be a GPS reference!

0:21:51 > 0:21:53A location on a map!

0:21:53 > 0:21:57If I follow them on my phone, it could lead me to the answer

0:21:57 > 0:21:59to the universal question!

0:21:59 > 0:22:01Is there life in outer space?

0:22:12 > 0:22:14Ninja skills!

0:22:22 > 0:22:25I know I wanted to do some amazing art, but this is ridiculous!

0:22:29 > 0:22:31The coordinates have led me here.

0:22:34 > 0:22:35Found something.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40What...is...this?

0:22:40 > 0:22:42- It's a rocket.- Who are you?

0:22:42 > 0:22:44- I'm Adrian.- Alien?

0:22:44 > 0:22:46No, I'm Adrian. I'm an expert in mazes.

0:22:49 > 0:22:53Ah! That's why I've been called here, to do an amazing, mazing,

0:22:53 > 0:22:57piece of alien art. Probably on your lawn.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59But first, we'd better get our ninja on.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09Art...Art Ninja!

0:23:14 > 0:23:17Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa!

0:23:17 > 0:23:18All right? I just want to get on

0:23:18 > 0:23:21and do my intergalactic space picture on here.

0:23:21 > 0:23:23Well, there is a bit of science to this, you know.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26So, I can't just do a bit there, do a bit there, go with the mow?

0:23:26 > 0:23:28- Go with the mow?- Mm.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31- Er...you might find it better to do it this way.- OK.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34- We'll do a grid of the whole field first.- A-huh.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36And then we'll mark out these squares.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39And then we'll put canes in the ground, measure these out.

0:23:39 > 0:23:43And we'll take each section in turn and then you can do your mowing.

0:23:43 > 0:23:44- Yes!- Yes!

0:23:47 > 0:23:50- You should have 18 metres.- You've done this before, haven't you?

0:23:50 > 0:23:51Yeah. ADRIAN LAUGHS

0:23:53 > 0:23:55And then you come along that tape with the white.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58Yes, boss! I think he's going to tell me off.

0:24:00 > 0:24:02If you don't do it right, it won't work.

0:24:03 > 0:24:07- Go and collect the next tape and pull it all the way down.- Yes!

0:24:07 > 0:24:08Yes, sir!

0:24:08 > 0:24:10He didn't hear me, did he? He didn't hear me?

0:24:12 > 0:24:14Just do it quickly, though. You know, chop-chop.

0:24:14 > 0:24:16Lovely sunny day to run around.

0:24:19 > 0:24:20- Do we get to mow now?- No.- Oh!

0:24:22 > 0:24:25Well, this is where I hand over to the sorcerer's apprentice.

0:24:25 > 0:24:27I'm going to have a sit down.

0:24:27 > 0:24:29Hah! I won't let you down.

0:24:29 > 0:24:31I'm sure you won't.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43Fully sitting down. Literally lounging.

0:24:46 > 0:24:48You know, take a load off, man. Take it easy.

0:24:50 > 0:24:51Pfft!

0:24:51 > 0:24:55Perfect. Now we take the design and just do one part at a time.

0:25:02 > 0:25:03Good spin!

0:25:03 > 0:25:07- This isn't really for people that get hay fever, is it?- No.

0:25:08 > 0:25:12When am I going to get to mow anything? I want to mow.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15- Do you believe in me? - I have absolute confidence in you.

0:25:15 > 0:25:19Now's the moment. I think you're a qualified ninja operator.

0:25:19 > 0:25:22- Yes!- OK? Off you go.

0:25:22 > 0:25:24'I'm a ninja and Adrian's a grownup.

0:25:24 > 0:25:28'Make sure you get one to help if you mow art on your lawn.'

0:25:31 > 0:25:33No, no, not too tight!

0:25:33 > 0:25:35Big waves. Big waves!

0:25:35 > 0:25:37- That's not bad.- Not bad at all.

0:25:59 > 0:26:01Oh!

0:26:02 > 0:26:04I don't see it. After all that hard work,

0:26:04 > 0:26:07I think I've let you down. I don't see a rocket here anywhere.

0:26:07 > 0:26:10Don't be hard on yourself, ninja, you did a grand job.

0:26:10 > 0:26:13It's a splendid rocket there. Come on.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36KNOCK ON DOOR

0:26:36 > 0:26:37I wonder who that is?

0:26:50 > 0:26:52Who...are you?!

0:26:52 > 0:26:54We're from the international space agency.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57We've come to impound your alien gloop.

0:26:57 > 0:26:58But it's handmade!

0:26:58 > 0:27:01Yes, that's right. Made by an alien hand.

0:27:16 > 0:27:18That was weird.

0:27:18 > 0:27:20And hopefully it's the end to my alien adventure.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24Today has taught me a valuable Art Ninja lesson.

0:27:24 > 0:27:27If you're making art that's intergalactic,

0:27:27 > 0:27:30a lawn and an expert can make it fantastic.

0:27:34 > 0:27:36PARANORMAL BLEEPING

0:27:41 > 0:27:42Whoa! What just happened?!

0:27:42 > 0:27:45ALIEN: Oh, what a strange-looking creature!

0:27:45 > 0:27:48Oh, hello there. Who are you?

0:27:48 > 0:27:51ALIEN: It talks! A-A-A-Argh!

0:27:57 > 0:28:01To get your Art Ninja on, go to the CBBC website.

0:28:01 > 0:28:03Ninja skills!
