0:00:03 > 0:00:05I'm Ricky. I live in Bristol.

0:00:05 > 0:00:10By day, I work as an animator, which is lucky cos I love art.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12I live for art, I even dream of art.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Ninja skills!

0:00:14 > 0:00:17I draw, I paint...

0:00:17 > 0:00:19I make things.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22I hang out with my mates...

0:00:22 > 0:00:23LAUGHTER

0:00:23 > 0:00:25Gavin, Michelle, Rich and Sarah.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29- Ah!- Most importantly, I make ninja moves.

0:00:29 > 0:00:30Some people call me the...

0:00:32 > 0:00:34..Art Ninja!

0:00:34 > 0:00:38Today, I'll show you how to make a guitar player with pipe cleaners,

0:00:38 > 0:00:42dance to a different drum with this zoetrope animation

0:00:42 > 0:00:47and I get my old band back together for slow-mo speaker art.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Because today it's...

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Ugh! It's a new day.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Time to get my Ninja on.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00And my clothes.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14TOY SQUEAKS

0:01:14 > 0:01:18They're doing drum practice next door. It's really annoying.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19DRUMS PLAY

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Oh, but it's making me move.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24Oh, I can't control it.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26It's triggered something inside of me.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Yeah! Oh, no, I'm dad dancing.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39That's not dad dancing, this is dad dancing.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41Ah, he's so embarrassing.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47Dad's dance moves leave a lot to be desired but check me out.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Every pose is a brilliant picture.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Nice.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55That's given me an idea.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58I'm going to use these pipe cleaners and bend them into a figure

0:01:58 > 0:02:00and put it in a dynamic pose.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03If I make the model nice and elongated like this,

0:02:03 > 0:02:07it'll look like it's been made by artist Alberto Giacometti.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Buon giorno, Ricky.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Hey, Alberto, I figured you'd be a figure.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Si, I loved sculpting and painting figures.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19I used to keep carving my figures from soft modelling clay

0:02:19 > 0:02:24and reworking them until they became very elongated and thin.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Here's some of my work.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30My sculptures were often walking.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Talking of which, there's somewhere I have to walk to now.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Arrivederci.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Bye, then.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41I'm going to start by just folding over my pipe cleaner

0:02:41 > 0:02:43to make a head shape.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Twist it all the way down to give it a bit of inner strength,

0:02:46 > 0:02:47like a spine.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50You can buy pipe cleaners online or from a craft shop.

0:02:50 > 0:02:51Now I'm going to do some arms.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53Just going to bend that bit round like that

0:02:53 > 0:02:56and that'll represent a hand.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57Down to the elbow.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Hold it up and up to the shoulder.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Wrap that round the neck.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07Then the other hand.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Right there, up to the shoulder.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Now go round the neck again - just to hold it in place.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17Just working it back into the middle bit to make it stronger.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Now I'm going to start on the legs.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22So going to give it a little foot twist there.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27That's looking pretty good.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I've got a couple of pieces of cardboard here,

0:03:29 > 0:03:32so I'm just going to stick his feet down.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Use a little bit of sticky tape for this.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Now just to weigh down the base

0:03:37 > 0:03:39and to hold his feet perfectly in place,

0:03:39 > 0:03:40I'm using a bit of modelling clay,

0:03:40 > 0:03:44about that much for each foot and I want it to go into a point.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49Make a little groove at the back and that groove's going to help me

0:03:49 > 0:03:51grip round the pipe cleaner at the back of his leg.

0:03:53 > 0:03:58Here we go, and these big feet are very typical of Giacometti's style.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00"Whoa."

0:04:00 > 0:04:01"Whah!"

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Now, today's all about music for me,

0:04:03 > 0:04:05so I'm going to make this guy a guitar.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12There we are, cut that out.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14Now I'm going to wrap them both in masking tape,

0:04:14 > 0:04:16just to make them stronger,

0:04:16 > 0:04:18easier to paint and it'll also

0:04:18 > 0:04:20make him look more worked, which is

0:04:20 > 0:04:22just like Giacometti's style.

0:04:22 > 0:04:23I'm also doing the base

0:04:23 > 0:04:26and going over the clay feet too.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28I'm going to get a nice big long

0:04:28 > 0:04:30bit of masking tape,

0:04:30 > 0:04:31roll it into a ball to give a nice

0:04:31 > 0:04:33round shape to the head.

0:04:33 > 0:04:34Just go round that too.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41Now I'm going to cover his guitar.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43And stick it to his hands.

0:04:48 > 0:04:49I'm taking a bit of masking tape

0:04:49 > 0:04:51and I'm folding it back on itself

0:04:51 > 0:04:53so it's sticky on both sides.

0:04:53 > 0:04:54I'm going to use that to stick

0:04:54 > 0:04:57the hands to the guitar.

0:04:57 > 0:04:58Need to make it look like

0:04:58 > 0:05:00he's playing it.

0:05:00 > 0:05:01So now I can position his arms

0:05:01 > 0:05:02in just the right way too.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06Like that.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10I think that's ready to start painting.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13I've got some gold paint here that I've mixed with some black to

0:05:13 > 0:05:14get that nice dirty bronze.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17So it'll look more like one of Giacometti's works.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24I've left the head till last so I can hold on to him

0:05:24 > 0:05:27while I paint him and move him around until the very last moment.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32There you go. My Alberto Giacometti guitarist.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34It really rocks.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36GUITAR MUSIC

0:05:37 > 0:05:41You don't have to do a guitarist. Here's some other examples.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44How about a silver ballerina?

0:05:44 > 0:05:47Or a rad golden skateboarder?

0:05:49 > 0:05:50A ninja...?

0:05:50 > 0:05:53"Ha!"

0:05:53 > 0:05:56Or a dog? BARKS

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Think I'll get rid of this.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04What is this? Oh, it's a flyer.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07"Are you in a band?" Could be.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10"Want to open a music festival?" Yeah, I do.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13"Send your music demos to this e-mail address,

0:06:13 > 0:06:16"blah-di-blah-di-blah at BlahFest.com".

0:06:16 > 0:06:19Seriously, that's what it says.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Well, I'm going to need some instruments.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Guitar, bass, drums. Ordered.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Need to invite Gavin and Sarah over.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28Text sent.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31I can't wait for our first proper band practice.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38But first, here's a quick art tip of how to draw an electric guitar.

0:06:38 > 0:06:42I'm going to start with four lines going diagonally across my page.

0:06:42 > 0:06:46Going to draw each one slightly longer than the last.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49At the bottom here, going to draw a little rectangle

0:06:49 > 0:06:50and that's going to be the bridge.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53Then at the top, where the lines start to end,

0:06:53 > 0:06:56we're going to draw a kind of bean shape with a flat bottom

0:06:56 > 0:06:58and that is going to become the head.

0:06:58 > 0:06:59On the top here, four little lollies

0:06:59 > 0:07:02and they're the tuning pegs and then about a third of the way up,

0:07:02 > 0:07:05going to draw a kind of horn shape

0:07:05 > 0:07:08and this is going to be the body of the guitar.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11Lines on the strings are going to be the frets and then we draw

0:07:11 > 0:07:14a little oval shape underneath the strings there for the pick-up.

0:07:14 > 0:07:17Now I'm going to decorate with some knobs, add some little wobbly lines,

0:07:17 > 0:07:20so it looks like it's playing music.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22And some musical notes.

0:07:27 > 0:07:30There you go. Another quick art tip.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38Why not have a play at drawing a guitar yourself?

0:07:40 > 0:07:43GUITAR FEEDBACK

0:07:43 > 0:07:46The last time Gavin, Sarah and I were in a band together,

0:07:46 > 0:07:48we literally had everybody on their feet.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Not leaving the venue, dancing.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53A bit like these guys in...

0:07:53 > 0:07:57The Art Ninja zoetrope.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00Every film or TV show you've ever watched is made up

0:08:00 > 0:08:04of individual pictures speeding by at quick succession.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07A zoetrope is a just an early version of that.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10So take your paper plate, now, I've painted mine black,

0:08:10 > 0:08:13and with a bit of modelling clay to protect the table,

0:08:13 > 0:08:16poke a hole through the centre with a pencil.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19With a pair of scissors - just cut a simple little X.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Now that's going to work as a cradle for a marble.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26It's going to help the zoetrope spin

0:08:26 > 0:08:29and I'm going to hold that in place with some sticky tape.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34Cool. Now take a long sheet of black card,

0:08:34 > 0:08:37long enough to fit around the outside of your plate.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40Now, I'm going to cut 12 slots into it, equal distances apart

0:08:40 > 0:08:43and I'm going to mark out where I'm going to make the cuts.

0:08:43 > 0:08:45I think they're going to be eight centimetres deep

0:08:45 > 0:08:47and they're going to be about five millimetres in width.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01With some scissors, carefully cut those slots out.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19Now go back along and just cut off all the waste bits you left behind.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21Now these slots are going to be what I'm going to watch

0:09:21 > 0:09:24the animation through, like little viewfinders.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26Now I just stick that round the outside of the paper plate

0:09:26 > 0:09:29with a little bit of double-sided sticky tape.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32You can use glue or normal sticky tape.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34Just run that along the bottom.

0:09:34 > 0:09:36And I'm going to put a little

0:09:36 > 0:09:40bit on the edge here as well, to stick it together where it overlaps.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43Just going to prepare my plate by rolling over the sides.

0:09:43 > 0:09:47So I've got a nice surface to stick the double-sided sticky tape to.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51Right, peel off the backing of my double-sided sticky tape.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54Just going to roll the plate along and anywhere where it needs a

0:09:54 > 0:09:56little bit more stick,

0:09:56 > 0:09:59I'm going to use some sticky tape to hold it down.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03Just where it overlaps.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05There you go.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07So the zoetrope is a bit like a drum

0:10:07 > 0:10:09and when you place a sequence of photographs or

0:10:09 > 0:10:12images on the inside and spin it -

0:10:12 > 0:10:15they animate in smooth motion.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17So I need to draw my sequence of images.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20I'm going to grab a long piece of white card with a little

0:10:20 > 0:10:23bit of overlap, so it fits nicely on the inside of the drum.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26Right, so now I need to draw my 12 pictures...

0:10:26 > 0:10:28Equal distances apart,

0:10:28 > 0:10:31so they line up with the slots on the zoetrope.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35I'm going to draw someone dancing.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41As you can see, I draw my figure in a different position each time,

0:10:41 > 0:10:43so it animates nicely,

0:10:43 > 0:10:46but so it flows, I need to return it to the starting position.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50The word zoetrope derives from the Greek word meaning "life turning".

0:10:50 > 0:10:53There we are - my last frame is

0:10:53 > 0:10:54nearly at my starting position.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56That should animate well.

0:10:56 > 0:11:00So I've got my 12 pictures and my 12 slots in the zoetrope

0:11:00 > 0:11:03and now I'm going to pop 'em in and make 'em dance.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08Now give it a spin

0:11:08 > 0:11:11and watch that tiny dancer spin across the dance floor.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14MUSIC: Tiny Dancer by DJ Ironik and Elton John

0:11:14 > 0:11:16# Hold me closer, tiny dancer... #

0:11:16 > 0:11:17It's better than my dancing.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19But not nearly as good as Dad's.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24You don't have to do a dancer.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27You can make your figure do whatever you like.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34This one's jumping.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37Or a dog going for walkies.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39KNOCKING

0:11:39 > 0:11:42Enough spinning, let's rock.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44Hey, guys, you ready for band practice?

0:11:44 > 0:11:47Yeah, been doing my vocal warm-up exercises.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50# Me-me-me-me-me-me-me

0:11:50 > 0:11:56# Me-me-me-me-me, meeeee! #

0:11:56 > 0:11:59Yeah, great. So, bass guitar for you.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02Oh. Talking of which, where are the instruments?

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Well, I ordered them earlier. Should be here by now.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08Oh, there was this box on the doorstep.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11Well, that can't be them, it's too small.

0:12:13 > 0:12:16- Don't know what these are. - Mm.

0:12:16 > 0:12:20Oh, no, it is the instruments but these are tiny.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22They look bigger on the internet.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24Must have ordered the wrong thing.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27No band practice, no festival slot for us.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29I'm going to have to pack you guys off

0:12:29 > 0:12:31until I think of a different plan.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36I can't play this, it's tiny.

0:12:36 > 0:12:37PHONE RINGS

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Hi, Ricky, it's your mum!

0:12:39 > 0:12:43Just wanted to tell you what you've got coming up.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46You learn how to make a bubble snake.

0:12:46 > 0:12:50You'll make a music box that goes boom, for your bedroom.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53And this slow-mo paint art will be hard to beat.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55Anyway, bye, Ricky.

0:12:58 > 0:13:01One thing you can't fail to miss is that that picture has

0:13:01 > 0:13:04a life of its own and that's because it's animated.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10SPEEDING CAR

0:13:10 > 0:13:12TYRES SQUEAL

0:13:17 > 0:13:20Hang on, is that a runaway sandcastle?

0:13:20 > 0:13:23No, it's just really cold on this beach

0:13:23 > 0:13:25and we're going to do an awesome animation anyway.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28So, if you want to make this awesome animation - you'll need bucket

0:13:28 > 0:13:32and spade mode, a beach and a tablet with animation app installed.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34And you can put it together in just three Ninja moves.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36Ninja move number one.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39Need to find the perfect place on the beach to make your animation.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41SCREAMING If you're too close to the sea,

0:13:41 > 0:13:43your sandcastle might get washed away.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46And too close to the dunes and the sand's a bit dry,

0:13:46 > 0:13:48it doesn't make a very good sandcastle.

0:13:50 > 0:13:52Ninja move number two.

0:13:52 > 0:13:54Look around the beach

0:13:54 > 0:13:58and find some interesting objects to make your racetrack.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01The beach is usually full of nice big bits of driftwood

0:14:01 > 0:14:02and seaweed and shells.

0:14:02 > 0:14:06Steer clear from rubbish and other dirty stuff, though, it's filthy.

0:14:06 > 0:14:08Ninja move number three.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10Sand's really, really good for drawing in, so you can add

0:14:10 > 0:14:14some cool little skid marks and extra accents to your animation.

0:14:16 > 0:14:18I've built the sand up to create a little

0:14:18 > 0:14:20shock wave as my sandcastle skids round the corner.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22Once you've made your sandcastles

0:14:22 > 0:14:24and taken a photo using the animation app,

0:14:24 > 0:14:26you need to slide your castle and camera

0:14:26 > 0:14:27a few centimetres forward

0:14:27 > 0:14:29and then take another photo.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34For my dramatic ending, I've added a little bit of an explosion, having

0:14:34 > 0:14:38the sand pushed away from where Richie stomped on the sandcastle.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40OK, I've shot all my frames.

0:14:40 > 0:14:42I've added some cool sound effects.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45I think it's time to take a look at our mini masterpiece.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50SPEEDING CAR

0:14:50 > 0:14:52TYRES SQUEAL

0:14:58 > 0:15:00Ah, yeah, awesome.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03So get down to the beach, preferably in summer, get your sandcastle

0:15:03 > 0:15:07kit out and make yourself an awesome runaway sandcastle animation.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09Ninja skills!

0:15:10 > 0:15:12Ugh, oh, it's cold.

0:15:16 > 0:15:18- BOTH:- Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!

0:15:18 > 0:15:21It reminds me of those adoring crowds I played to at that gig.

0:15:21 > 0:15:24Ricky, can you make art with...

0:15:24 > 0:15:26a wig?

0:15:26 > 0:15:28I could, but it might be a hairy experience.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30- BOTH:- Oh!

0:15:30 > 0:15:32Hey, Ricky.

0:15:32 > 0:15:35Oh, somebody else from CBBC trying to get in on the act.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37I was wondering if you could make anything out of this yoga mat?

0:15:37 > 0:15:40That is a Next Step too far, Michelle.

0:15:40 > 0:15:43Hey, I wonder what this girl's got?

0:15:43 > 0:15:46Hey, Ricky, can you make art with a paper cup?

0:15:46 > 0:15:48All right, then, I choose you.

0:15:48 > 0:15:50Yay!

0:15:50 > 0:15:51- So, what's your name? - Cady.

0:15:51 > 0:15:53Hi, Cady.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55So, art with a paper cup.

0:15:55 > 0:15:58I know, rather than filling it with juice, I'm going to fill it

0:15:58 > 0:16:02with music and I'm going to put together an old-school boombox.

0:16:02 > 0:16:03Cool!

0:16:03 > 0:16:05Let me just go grab my things.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07OK, Cady, I've got my things.

0:16:07 > 0:16:09This is the sticky stuff there.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12So, first of all we're going to take the paper cups

0:16:12 > 0:16:15and kitchen roll and I'm going to draw a circle

0:16:15 > 0:16:17on each of the paper cups,

0:16:17 > 0:16:19just around my kitchen roll tube.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22Cups are great because they amplify the sound.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25Just going to put some modelling clay on the inside of the cup

0:16:25 > 0:16:28and poke a hole with a pencil, so I can cut out the circles.

0:16:28 > 0:16:30Just easier to get my scissors in there.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34So now I'm going to need my phone

0:16:34 > 0:16:37cos that's where the music's going to come from in the boombox.

0:16:37 > 0:16:38Find the right place in the middle

0:16:38 > 0:16:40and I'm going to draw a little guideline

0:16:40 > 0:16:43and I'm going to cut a slot for the phone to slide in to.

0:16:44 > 0:16:46There we are.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48So, put a bit of clay in the inside.

0:16:51 > 0:16:53Just cut that slot out.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58OK, and I'm going to slide that tube inside the two circles

0:16:58 > 0:17:01that I've cut in the paper cups.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03One on the other side.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05OK, so I've got them together now like this.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08And now we're going to use that to draw some guide holes

0:17:08 > 0:17:11on the top of this cardboard box I've got,

0:17:11 > 0:17:13just an old shoebox.

0:17:23 > 0:17:27Here we are. So, cut two holes on top of the box.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30So I'm going to take the main part of the shoebox

0:17:30 > 0:17:33and I'm going to stick the paper cups to the inside of it,

0:17:33 > 0:17:35making sure that the slot that

0:17:35 > 0:17:37I cut is facing upwards.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39I'm going to do that with a little bit of PVA glue

0:17:39 > 0:17:43and I've got some masking tape to hold it in place while it dries.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53I've got a little bit of card here, that I'm going to stick to the top,

0:17:53 > 0:17:55and that's going to be the handle.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00I'm going to pop that to one side while it dries

0:18:00 > 0:18:04and I'm going to cut this little bit of black card into long strips.

0:18:06 > 0:18:09In a second, I'm going to stick these strips on the inside of the

0:18:09 > 0:18:13lid of the box and they're going to become the grille of the speakers.

0:18:15 > 0:18:17OK, so I've got the grille now.

0:18:17 > 0:18:19So I think I want to draw a little bit of detail on this, to make it

0:18:19 > 0:18:22look more like a boombox but I don't have a pen.

0:18:22 > 0:18:23Do you have a pen, by any chance?

0:18:23 > 0:18:26- Yeah. - Oh, can I take it from you?

0:18:26 > 0:18:27Yeah.

0:18:27 > 0:18:28Ninja skills.

0:18:30 > 0:18:32I'm going to start on the speakers.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34I'm going to build them up a little bit more.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39OK, just finish drawing this part of the speaker here.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42I think I need some, like, bit of detail in the middle,

0:18:42 > 0:18:44make it look all technical.

0:18:49 > 0:18:51Front of the boombox is looking awesome.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54So, get some music on the phone...

0:18:54 > 0:18:56slide it in there.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58POP MUSIC PLAYS

0:19:00 > 0:19:02Ready to see the boombox?

0:19:02 > 0:19:03Yeah.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05OK.

0:19:06 > 0:19:08What do you think of that?

0:19:08 > 0:19:10Epic.

0:19:10 > 0:19:11Sorry?

0:19:11 > 0:19:13Epic boombox!

0:19:13 > 0:19:15Yeah, it does sound great.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17So, what would you give it out of ten?

0:19:17 > 0:19:21I'd give it ten!

0:19:21 > 0:19:22What?

0:19:22 > 0:19:24I'd give it ten.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Yeah, ten, awesome.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28Thanks very much, Cady, it's a great idea.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31Cheers.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33POP MUSIC PLAYS

0:19:39 > 0:19:42What am I going to do about the band?

0:19:42 > 0:19:46Hey, you there, scared of snakes? Love bubbles?

0:19:46 > 0:19:49Then you'll love the bubble snake.

0:19:49 > 0:19:53Here's how you make it.

0:19:53 > 0:19:55Grab yourself a plastic bottle.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58Remove the lid and cut off the bottom.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01Maybe get an adult to help you.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Get an old piece of flannel.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06Place it over the bottom of the bottle

0:20:06 > 0:20:09and fasten with an elastic band.

0:20:09 > 0:20:14Now decorate it with some googly eyes.

0:20:16 > 0:20:19Cut out some hair from paper.

0:20:19 > 0:20:20And stick it on.

0:20:20 > 0:20:22I've gone with a punk rock look.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24Eye-catching.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27But you can do any hairstyle you like.

0:20:27 > 0:20:32Take a bowl of water and add to it some washing-up liquid.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35Stir with a spoon.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37You may want to do this bit outside

0:20:37 > 0:20:39cos it can get messy.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42Dunk in your bubble snake.

0:20:44 > 0:20:48Now blow into the bottle, creating an awesome bubble snake.

0:21:00 > 0:21:02The bubble snake.

0:21:02 > 0:21:03You wouldn't want to...

0:21:03 > 0:21:05..hiss out.

0:21:05 > 0:21:06HE LAUGHS

0:21:06 > 0:21:08Hilarious. Ha-ha...

0:21:08 > 0:21:13Really very funny, ha-ha-ha, whoa...

0:21:13 > 0:21:15DOOR KNOCKS

0:21:15 > 0:21:18Hi, Gav, where's Sarah?

0:21:18 > 0:21:20Had any other ideas for the festival audition?

0:21:20 > 0:21:23I've got one. We don't need instruments for our band.

0:21:23 > 0:21:25I made some beats on my phone. Do you want to hear them?

0:21:25 > 0:21:26No, I don't think that's what

0:21:26 > 0:21:28the festival organisers want to hear.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30BEATS PLAY

0:21:30 > 0:21:33Oh, he's not listening and there it goes, Gav's trademark dance,

0:21:33 > 0:21:35the running man.

0:21:36 > 0:21:40Sarah. Hi, Sarah. You've sorted out some instruments?

0:21:40 > 0:21:42Great. I'll meet you at the skate park.

0:22:00 > 0:22:01Hey, Sarah.

0:22:01 > 0:22:02Hi, Ricky, where's Gavin?

0:22:02 > 0:22:04Oh, I left him doing the running man.

0:22:23 > 0:22:25'Fraid not, bro, cos you're going to need these.

0:22:25 > 0:22:28Cos we're going to make an arty pop video.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32But first...we'd better get our Ninja on.

0:22:39 > 0:22:40Art Ninja!

0:22:40 > 0:22:42One, two, three, four.

0:22:42 > 0:22:43- BOTH:- Art Ninja.

0:22:43 > 0:22:45Yeah.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50So you guys want to get an awesome slot at a festival, right?

0:23:06 > 0:23:08Sarah, the amp.

0:23:11 > 0:23:12FEEDBACK

0:23:14 > 0:23:15It's not very original, is it?

0:23:15 > 0:23:17I need some water.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20Hey, Gav, watch this.

0:23:20 > 0:23:21What are you doing?

0:23:21 > 0:23:24Get drumming, mate. I'm setting the camera to slow-mo.

0:23:43 > 0:23:44That was awesome.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48It was... But was it arty enough for a pop music video?

0:23:50 > 0:23:52If you want arty, what's more arty than paint?

0:23:52 > 0:23:56We can make a music video by pouring paint into those old speakers.

0:23:56 > 0:23:58Good idea.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00Now, don't be doing this at home or you and me

0:24:00 > 0:24:02both will be in big trouble.

0:24:02 > 0:24:04Hey, Gav, watch this.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06How about those beats you were trying to play earlier?

0:24:06 > 0:24:08Yes!

0:24:42 > 0:24:45- Wow, that looks amazing. - That's incredible.

0:24:45 > 0:24:46It looked awesome.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49And it's only going to get better with a little bit more colour.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51Sarah, plop a bit of yellow in there, some there, there,

0:24:51 > 0:24:53there and there.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55Go on, don't be shy, that's it.

0:24:55 > 0:24:58Ah, I can't wait to see how this looks in slow motion.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18Wow, that looked awesome. Red and yellow. Orange. Who knew?

0:25:18 > 0:25:21Let's try a different approach to this one.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23Let's pour some blue

0:25:23 > 0:25:27and yellow on either side and see what happens when they mix.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31Nice. Right, Gav, drop the beat.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34BEATS POUND

0:25:39 > 0:25:40Awesome.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05- He is pretty impressive. - Yeah, he ain't bad.

0:26:29 > 0:26:31Look at that.

0:26:31 > 0:26:34I'll just send it off to the festival organisers.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36I think that'll really wow them.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38HE YAWNS

0:26:38 > 0:26:39Uh, bed.

0:26:41 > 0:26:44I really hope we get to open the festival.

0:26:44 > 0:26:48Our band is great and the video was super arty.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51Today has taught me a valuable Art Ninja lesson.

0:26:51 > 0:26:55If you want your band at a massive show, you'll need paint,

0:26:55 > 0:26:57speakers and a camera set to slow-mo.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59PHONE BEEPS

0:26:59 > 0:27:01Wonder who that is?

0:27:01 > 0:27:03It's the festival organiser.

0:27:03 > 0:27:05They loved the video.

0:27:05 > 0:27:08They thought the dancing was incredible,

0:27:08 > 0:27:10especially the running man.

0:27:10 > 0:27:15They want to book Gav for the festival, Gav...and not the band.

0:27:21 > 0:27:25I've sent them the wrong video. Agh!
