0:00:03 > 0:00:04I'm Ricky.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06I live in Bristol.

0:00:06 > 0:00:07I work as an animator.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11Which is lucky, cos I love art.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13I live for art. I even dream of art.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15I draw...

0:00:15 > 0:00:16..I paint...

0:00:16 > 0:00:17..I make things!

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Nailed it.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24I hang out with my mates Gavin, Rich and Sarah.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26SHE SCREAMS

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Most importantly, I make ninja moves.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Some people call me the...

0:00:33 > 0:00:37Today, I'll show you how to make a self-propelled sports car.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40There's a photo holder that's a whole lot of fun.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45And things get moving with this animation that's really fast.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Because today it's...

0:00:55 > 0:00:56HE YAWNS

0:00:56 > 0:00:58It's a new day.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00I better get my ninja on.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01And my clothes.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09Huh?

0:01:09 > 0:01:10HE GROANS

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Kiai!

0:01:13 > 0:01:17It's time to catch up on Big Al's Awesome Autos.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Best show ever!

0:01:20 > 0:01:25This week on Big Al's Awesome Autos, America's baddest trucks.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Hoo-wee! Let's roll, y'all.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Monster cars are awesome, but you'd never catch me in one.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39Driving is too scary.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41My nan's been hassling me to learn to drive,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44and I'm pretty sure she just wants me to drive her to bingo.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48Late for bingo. Faster, faster!

0:01:48 > 0:01:50HE SHUDDERS

0:01:50 > 0:01:52I'm not ready to drive.

0:01:52 > 0:01:57The only car I want is the Art Ninja elastic band car.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59So, I've got a big piece of cardboard here.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00I'm going to draw out the shapes

0:02:00 > 0:02:02that are going to make the main part of my car.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04I'm going to start by drawing the chassis,

0:02:04 > 0:02:07which is the bit on the bottom that holds the car together.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08I'm going to leave a little gap here.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10You'll see why later.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11That's the chassis there.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14This is the side of the car.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17And I'm going to need another one of these exactly the same.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20I need to cut these out and I'm going to use ninja skills.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26There we go. And I'm going to concentrate on the chassis.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28So, I've got a paperclip that I've cut in half.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30You'll need to get an adult to help you do this.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32And then using some modelling clay.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35I'm going to poke it through about there.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38And then using a chopping board to protect the surface,

0:02:38 > 0:02:41I'm going to bend the paperclip at a right angle.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44There we go. And I've got a little bit of cards, and I'm going to cover

0:02:44 > 0:02:47it in strong glue, and put it over the sharp bits.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49I've got an elastic band.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51And I'm going to tie it through the paperclip.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54This will make part of the motor later.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Using some masking tape,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58I'm going to stick on the sides to the bottom of the car.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04I've got a long piece of thin card here,

0:03:04 > 0:03:05and this is going to be the top of my car.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07I'm going to fold this piece over,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10and I'm going to tape it down with some masking tape.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14I'm folding this card to match the sides that I've made.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17You might want to score these lines by running blunt scissors over them

0:03:17 > 0:03:19so they're easier to fold.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23I'm going to stick these on with a bit of masking tape.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28I'm leaving this bit up here,

0:03:28 > 0:03:32so I can get my hand inside to reset the elastic band.

0:03:32 > 0:03:33Right, now I've got four straws.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36Two of these are going to hold the wheels in place.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38This one's going to slip just in nicely there.

0:03:40 > 0:03:44And these extra straws are going to hold up my spoiler at the back.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47Now I'm just going to chop this little bit out here.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51I've sketched on a fun, fiery design

0:03:51 > 0:03:54and I'm going to start by painting the flames red.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00I'm going to mix a little bit of yellow in.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03Let's only blend to yellow in the middle of the flame.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05I'm going to move on to add some silver.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07And I'm going to paint around the bottom bit here.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09It's kind of like a bumper.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12And now a British racing green.

0:04:12 > 0:04:16You can paint your car any colour you like.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18I'm going to put that to one side while I make the wheels.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21So, I've cut out some circles of card that I've stuck together

0:04:21 > 0:04:22to make a nice, thick wheel.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25And I'm going to cut the top off of a balloon to create a really grippy

0:04:25 > 0:04:27tyre.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29And stretch the balloon over the wheel.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34I'm going to use the end of a skewer and just poke a hole in the middle.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36Now, for a car, I'm going to need four of these,

0:04:36 > 0:04:39so I'm going to use some ninja skills.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Oh, yes, ninja skills!

0:04:42 > 0:04:43Got some more skewers here.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45I'm going to slide them through the straws,

0:04:45 > 0:04:49and using some strong glue, I'm going to stick on my wheels.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51And the same for the back.

0:04:51 > 0:04:54I'm just going to turn it upside down, and I'm going to add a cable

0:04:54 > 0:04:55tie to the back axle.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57That's this bit here.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59You can buy cable ties from loads of shops.

0:04:59 > 0:05:04Pull it really, really tight until it doesn't slip.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06I'm going to cut off the excess.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09And this little bit is what I'll click the elastic band onto.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12And when it's wound up, it will make the car move.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Time to add some finishing touches.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17I've got some bits of silver card to make the windows

0:05:17 > 0:05:19and some sick alloys.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24And finally two headlights and a ninja number plate.

0:05:25 > 0:05:27There you go.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29Sick wheels!

0:05:30 > 0:05:32ENGINE REVS

0:05:32 > 0:05:34You don't have to make a car like this.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37You could make a pick-up truck.

0:05:37 > 0:05:38HONKING

0:05:39 > 0:05:41Or even a cool camper van.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43HONKING

0:05:45 > 0:05:47Right, let's take it for a spin.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50So, I'm going to reach in, grab my elastic band,

0:05:50 > 0:05:52and hook it over the cable tie.

0:05:52 > 0:05:53Wrap it around...

0:05:54 > 0:05:56..hold it tight...

0:05:56 > 0:05:57..let it fly.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59ZOOMING

0:05:59 > 0:06:01CRASHING

0:06:02 > 0:06:04KNOCKING

0:06:04 > 0:06:05Oh, no!

0:06:05 > 0:06:09I bet it's Nan trying to get me to take those driving lessons again.

0:06:14 > 0:06:18I'm pleased you're not my nan. She's on asked me to learn to drive.

0:06:18 > 0:06:19Yeah, it's time to grow up, Ricks.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Be mature like me.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23You SHOULD learn to drive.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25Then you can give me a lift to the library.

0:06:25 > 0:06:26Why do you want to go to the library?

0:06:26 > 0:06:28Oh, I left a whoopie cushion there.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31Don't worry, though, I've got a spare.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34Sit down, mate, you look exhausted.

0:06:34 > 0:06:35FART NOISE

0:06:35 > 0:06:36HE LAUGHS

0:06:36 > 0:06:38Very mature.

0:06:38 > 0:06:39I need some space.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44Everybody's trying to get me on the move today.

0:06:44 > 0:06:45This picture's already moving.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48That's because it's animated.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50Hey, guys, what's in the box?

0:06:51 > 0:06:52What's this?

0:06:54 > 0:06:57Put it on.

0:06:57 > 0:06:58Whoa!

0:07:02 > 0:07:03ENGINE REVS

0:07:06 > 0:07:09Don't worry, mate, it's just an animation.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12So, to make this awesome, rip-roaring animation, you'll need

0:07:12 > 0:07:14an old helmet or hat, some old bike handles,

0:07:14 > 0:07:16or something that can pass for bike handles,

0:07:16 > 0:07:18and a tablet with Animation app installed.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20Gnarly to the max.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23And you can put it together in just three ninja moves.

0:07:23 > 0:07:24Ninja move number one.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26The thing that really makes animation is the props.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28I've made mine by sticking the handles to the side of an old

0:07:28 > 0:07:30bike helmet.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32Now, for the wheel, you can use anything that's round.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33Ninja move number two.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Set up your tablet device and get ready to shoot.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39And I'm remembering to take a shot every time the human moped

0:07:39 > 0:07:40and the rider moves along.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42Ninja move number three.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44I'm going to need some realistic sounds.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47So remembering the Highway Code, I'm going to go and record some.

0:07:47 > 0:07:50I just have to wait for a moped or a motorbike to come along.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54I think it's time to take a look at our mini masterpiece.

0:07:54 > 0:07:55ENGINE REVS

0:07:55 > 0:07:56TYRES SQUEAL

0:08:01 > 0:08:02THEY LAUGH

0:08:02 > 0:08:05- What did you think, Ella? - Gnarly to the max.

0:08:07 > 0:08:09Today's contestant...

0:08:09 > 0:08:12..Ricky Martin.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14I've had a brilliant idea.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17A quiz to help you pass your driving theory test.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19That actually is quite a good idea.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21Thanks, mate.

0:08:21 > 0:08:22Here's your buzzer.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24First question.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28What is the top speed you should go past a turkey farm at night

0:08:28 > 0:08:29in February?

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Well, surely that depends on...

0:08:32 > 0:08:36No, I'm sorry, the answer I was looking for is 30mph.

0:08:36 > 0:08:37Next question.

0:08:37 > 0:08:39What is the best car ever?

0:08:39 > 0:08:43A Ferrari, a Lamborghini, or something else?

0:08:43 > 0:08:44- A Ferrari.- No.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46The best car ever is my car, Susan.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Gav, are you sure these are real questions?

0:08:48 > 0:08:50Don't question the quizmaster.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54And the final question for which the loser makes a cup of tea,

0:08:54 > 0:08:58what should you do before pulling out onto a road?

0:08:58 > 0:09:01I know this. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04Oh, I'm sorry, you didn't press the buzzer.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06The answer is mirror, signal, manoeuvre.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08I win! Mine's milk and no sugar, please.

0:09:08 > 0:09:09And a biscuit.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14Gav's quiz had quite a few holes in it.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17Just like these biscuits.

0:09:17 > 0:09:21An artist who was famous for using holes in her work is the sculptor

0:09:21 > 0:09:22Dame Barbara Hepworth.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24Good afternoon, Ricky.

0:09:24 > 0:09:25Hey, Dame Barbara.

0:09:25 > 0:09:30I was the artist famed for bringing the hole to British sculpture.

0:09:30 > 0:09:35Here's one of my most celebrated pieces now.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38In my later life, I moved to St Ives in Cornwall,

0:09:38 > 0:09:44where I could work outside having open air and space to inspire me.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46I could do with a trip to St Ives to get away from all these people

0:09:46 > 0:09:49here hassling me about my driving test.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52It's a good skill to have, Ricky.

0:09:52 > 0:09:54Don't you start as well!

0:09:54 > 0:09:56I'd, erm... I'd better be off now.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58Bye, then.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02Dame Barbara has given me a great idea for a mini sculpture with

0:10:02 > 0:10:03a surprise purpose.

0:10:05 > 0:10:07So, I've got myself a bottle here.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11And using a funnel I'm going to pop in some plaster of Paris.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15I'm going to fill the bottle about two thirds of the way up.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18You can buy plaster of Paris from your local art shop.

0:10:23 > 0:10:24There we go.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27It's looking good.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30Now, I'm going to add some water and I'm going to carefully pour it in.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33You'll need to repeat instructions the side of your plaster of Paris

0:10:33 > 0:10:34mix to get the right consistency.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40And put the lid back on and give it a good shake to mix it.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46Well, it sounds good.

0:10:46 > 0:10:51Got myself a balloon here. Just going to get the lid off ready.

0:10:51 > 0:10:52And I'm going to blow it up a bit.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Then I'm going to slip that over the top of my bottle.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03And then turn it upside down and pour in the plaster of Paris.

0:11:03 > 0:11:04POPPING

0:11:04 > 0:11:05Good noise.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07POPPING

0:11:08 > 0:11:11I'm making sure that I get as much plaster of Paris as I can

0:11:11 > 0:11:13inside the balloon.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16I'm working quickly, as I don't want it to set inside the bottle.

0:11:16 > 0:11:20There we go. And we carefully take the end of the balloon off.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22Let the air out.

0:11:22 > 0:11:23HISSING

0:11:26 > 0:11:28There we go. Tie a knot in the balloon.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33So, leave it to one side, so it can start setting.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35Got myself a little bit of wire here,

0:11:35 > 0:11:38and I'm going to bend the top into a triangle.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41And then, I'm going to bend a slightly larger triangle around the

0:11:41 > 0:11:42outside of that.

0:11:42 > 0:11:46And this is so it can hold a picture between the two pieces of wire.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48Now, I'm going to bring my balloon back,

0:11:48 > 0:11:50and start sculpting it into the shape that I want.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53And I'm going for a shape inspired by Hepworth.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56I'm working my thumb and forefinger into the middle to create that

0:11:56 > 0:11:59Barbara Hepworth hole.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02Before the plaster completely sets, I'm going to pierce the balloon

0:12:02 > 0:12:03and stick in my bit of wire.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08I can feel that it's nearly set.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10If you're doing this at home,

0:12:10 > 0:12:12you need make sure that you put some paper down to protect your table.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15Here we go. And now my plaster of Paris is set.

0:12:16 > 0:12:17It's time to cut off the balloon.

0:12:17 > 0:12:21So, I'm just going to snip off the top of it here.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23Just going to peel the balloon back from around it,

0:12:23 > 0:12:26being really careful not to damage my sculpture.

0:12:28 > 0:12:29Look at that!

0:12:30 > 0:12:32There you are.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34And these are perfect for photographs.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37And once yours is finished...

0:12:37 > 0:12:39..you can even...

0:12:39 > 0:12:40decorate them!

0:12:48 > 0:12:50PHONE RINGS Oh, no, I bet that's mum.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52She's been trying to get me to learn to drive too.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55Hi, Ricky, it's your mum.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58Now, I know my little poppet is scared of learning to drive,

0:12:58 > 0:13:00but you really must learn.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02I need a lift to my life drawing class.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04Your dad's agreed to pose again.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09There are far nicer sights coming up before then, though.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Like this wall hanger that's a little alien.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14Fun thing for fidgets that won't get you in the spin.

0:13:14 > 0:13:19And you finally get motoring with some really fast art.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21Anyway, don't worry, we'll get you driving.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23I'm sending your dad round to help.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25Bye!

0:13:25 > 0:13:28I just wish people would stop talking to me about driving.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32- Ricky, Ricky, Ricky! - It's the ninja apprentices!

0:13:32 > 0:13:34What can you make with a magnifying glass?

0:13:34 > 0:13:37Oh, I have to look into that.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Aw!

0:13:39 > 0:13:43- Hi, Ricky.- Hey, it's Greg James from The Playlist and Radio 1.

0:13:43 > 0:13:48I was wondering whether or not you'd be able to make some art with a hat

0:13:48 > 0:13:52- like this?- I'm sorry, I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Hey, what's this guy got?

0:13:55 > 0:13:58Ricky, can you make art with food colouring?

0:13:58 > 0:14:00Now, that's a tasty idea.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02- I choose you.- Yay!

0:14:02 > 0:14:06- So, what's your name, dude?- Asa. - And where are you from?- Cheshire.

0:14:06 > 0:14:07Oh, cool!

0:14:07 > 0:14:10Well, it's a great suggestion, let me just go grab my things.

0:14:10 > 0:14:14OK, dude, I'm back and I've got myself a bowl of water.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17Let's see, the food colouring, some straws,

0:14:17 > 0:14:20an old pillowcase, and some elastic bands.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22- Intrigued?- Yeah.

0:14:22 > 0:14:24So, I'm just going to open this up

0:14:24 > 0:14:26and I'm going to cut the front of it.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29Make sure you use an old pillowcase if you're going to do this.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31Or you can use an old piece of material.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34So, you've got some artwork behind you.

0:14:34 > 0:14:39This is the Queen's birthday card when she turned 90.

0:14:39 > 0:14:43- That's the Queen's birthday card? - Yes.- Then why have you got it?

0:14:43 > 0:14:45I was one of the winners.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47Oh, you won a competition to design it?

0:14:47 > 0:14:49Well done, mate, that's awesome!

0:14:51 > 0:14:53Right, I'm going to fold the material in half,

0:14:53 > 0:14:56because I want my picture to be symmetrical.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59So, everything I draw on this side will be the same on

0:14:59 > 0:15:01the other side.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05Now, I'm going to concertina it following my pencil guides.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07All right, now I'm going to grab an elastic band.

0:15:07 > 0:15:08I'm putting these on tightly.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12The elastic bands will help keep the colours separate.

0:15:12 > 0:15:14If you were making a piece of art with food colouring,

0:15:14 > 0:15:17- what would you do? - I think I do a space picture.

0:15:17 > 0:15:20Oh, well this might have a little spacey vibe too.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23Now I'm going to concertina along the other line

0:15:23 > 0:15:27and I'm going to put elastic band around that too.

0:15:27 > 0:15:29And I'm going to put elastic bands

0:15:29 > 0:15:31at equal intervals all the way along it.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36I need this to be wet, so I'm going to dip it in some water.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40And then wring it out without breaking the bands.

0:15:40 > 0:15:43And now, I get to crack on with the food colouring.

0:15:43 > 0:15:44I'm going to start with the green.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46A little trick for you to get it on the material

0:15:46 > 0:15:49is to put a straw in like that,

0:15:49 > 0:15:51put your finger over the top, so it creates a suction,

0:15:51 > 0:15:53and then take it out and it works like a pipette.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55Now, if you're doing this at home,

0:15:55 > 0:15:57make sure you put a tray down or some newspaper to protect

0:15:57 > 0:15:59the surfaces. And maybe put on an old shirt,

0:15:59 > 0:16:01so it doesn't stain your clothes.

0:16:01 > 0:16:03It's quite messy.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07I'm using different straws for each colour, so they don't get mixed up.

0:16:09 > 0:16:10What's your favourite colour, Asa?

0:16:10 > 0:16:11Yellow.

0:16:11 > 0:16:13That's my favourite colour too!

0:16:14 > 0:16:17The material will stay white where the elastic bands are.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19The technique is called tie-dye.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23On the end bit, I'm going to do a mix of colours.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26And some black for the eye.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28OK, Asa, I could wait for that to dry,

0:16:28 > 0:16:30but I'm going to use my ninja skills.

0:16:32 > 0:16:33There we go.

0:16:33 > 0:16:34Lovely and dry.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36Now I can cut off the elastic bands.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45So, check out my tie-dye alien wall hanger.

0:16:45 > 0:16:46It looks really cool.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48What would you score it?

0:16:48 > 0:16:50I'll score it a ten.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52Oh, top score!

0:16:52 > 0:16:55Thanks, Asa, it was a great suggestion.

0:16:55 > 0:16:56I'm going to go hang it up.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59- Bye-bye.- Bye, Ricky.

0:17:00 > 0:17:03I've attached a string and strips of card to each end

0:17:03 > 0:17:04to help hang it on the wall.

0:17:08 > 0:17:10KNOCKING

0:17:10 > 0:17:11Gav, no.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15- Oh, hi, Ricky's dad.- Hi, Gavster.

0:17:15 > 0:17:17I've been sent by Ricky's mum to get him out driving on the road.

0:17:17 > 0:17:18Is he in?

0:17:18 > 0:17:20HE MOUTHS

0:17:20 > 0:17:21- Yes.- No!

0:17:23 > 0:17:26Don't make me do it. It's dangerous out there.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28Don't worry, Ricky, I was round Gav's the other night and we were

0:17:28 > 0:17:31playing Rocket Racing F1 3000...

0:17:31 > 0:17:33What? Why were you over Gav's?

0:17:33 > 0:17:35It was mega laughs.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40BOTH: Yay!

0:17:40 > 0:17:42Anyway, I had a great idea.

0:17:42 > 0:17:45Why don't we give you a less scary way to learn how to drive?

0:17:45 > 0:17:47- Like how?- On the simulator?

0:17:47 > 0:17:51Where exactly are we going to get ourselves a simulator?

0:17:51 > 0:17:52Right here.

0:17:54 > 0:17:55As if.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58Here's a quick art tip of how to draw a landscape

0:17:58 > 0:17:59with a vanishing point.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01So, we're going to start with a horizon.

0:18:01 > 0:18:02That's just a straight line,

0:18:02 > 0:18:04and I'm going to do it about two thirds up my page.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07I'm going to draw a little dot for my vanishing point.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09And a couple of guide dots here

0:18:09 > 0:18:12that I'm going to join up to make my road disappear into the distance.

0:18:14 > 0:18:15Now, some road lines.

0:18:16 > 0:18:20And these are going to get smaller as my road goes into the distance.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24On the side of the road, I'm going to add some cacti.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27I feel like this could be a cool desert scene.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Cacti are already like little characters.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31Their arms in the air like this.

0:18:31 > 0:18:34Going to draw some nice big ones down here in the foreground,

0:18:34 > 0:18:36and they're going to get smaller as they move into the distance.

0:18:39 > 0:18:40They're quite fun to draw.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46I'm going to draw some mountains along the horizon.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50And they're going to be nice and rocky.

0:18:50 > 0:18:53I'm going to bring them down when I get to the end of my road,

0:18:53 > 0:18:55and back up when I get to the other side.

0:18:55 > 0:18:57Finally, going to add a sun in the sky.

0:18:57 > 0:19:01There we go. There's a quick art tip of how to draw a landscape...

0:19:02 > 0:19:03..with a vanishing point.

0:19:06 > 0:19:07ENGINE REVS

0:19:08 > 0:19:09TYRES SQUEAL

0:19:11 > 0:19:12Well, thank you very much!

0:19:13 > 0:19:14HONKING

0:19:20 > 0:19:22- What's this?- It's a steering wheel.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Surely you know what that is. Pop in.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Right, I've got my favourite driving DVD all set up,

0:19:30 > 0:19:32so all you need to do is take it steady

0:19:32 > 0:19:34and you'll be ready for the real thing.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36OK, you're pulling off.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38Well, you haven't even gotten your seat belts on yet!

0:19:38 > 0:19:40That's a fail straightaway.

0:19:41 > 0:19:42Right.

0:19:42 > 0:19:43Now, change gear.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46GEARS GRIND

0:19:46 > 0:19:47Not too fast.

0:19:47 > 0:19:48HONKING

0:19:51 > 0:19:53You're going too fast, Ricky.

0:19:53 > 0:19:54Mind that puddle.

0:19:54 > 0:19:56CRASHING

0:20:00 > 0:20:01I need some Zen.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06Om...

0:20:06 > 0:20:08Greetings, dude. No way.

0:20:08 > 0:20:10Whoa!

0:20:10 > 0:20:12I'm OK, man.

0:20:12 > 0:20:13Greetings, Grand Master.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17Lesson number 989 to enlightenment.

0:20:17 > 0:20:20Revolving structure of much distraction.

0:20:22 > 0:20:23A fidget spinner.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25Let's do it.

0:20:25 > 0:20:27Grab some thin strips of card.

0:20:27 > 0:20:30Add some double-sided sticky tape to the ends.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37Fold the strips in half, sticking the ends together.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45Cut the sticky ends into points, man.

0:20:49 > 0:20:52And a slide them through the folded end,

0:20:52 > 0:20:53so they connect together.

0:20:55 > 0:20:57Cool, dude.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01Get some small circles of card.

0:21:01 > 0:21:06Use a pencil and modelling clay to pierce a hole through the middle.

0:21:07 > 0:21:09Bull's-eye!

0:21:09 > 0:21:12Cut a cocktail stick using scissors,

0:21:12 > 0:21:15and push it through one of the card circles.

0:21:15 > 0:21:20Push it through the spinner and put a circle on the other side.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23Hold it in place with strong glue, dudes.

0:21:25 > 0:21:26Let it dry.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28Let it spin.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30Yeah!

0:21:30 > 0:21:31So spinny.

0:21:38 > 0:21:39Whoa!

0:21:46 > 0:21:47You try, dude.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53Wow, thanks, Grand Master.

0:21:53 > 0:21:56I am enlightened and calm.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Son, I think you're ready,

0:22:09 > 0:22:11which is good because I booked your driving test.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20Oh, please don't make me do it, I beg you.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22I just want my skateboard.

0:22:22 > 0:22:26Come on, Ricks. You'll be fine. What's the worst that can happen?

0:22:33 > 0:22:34Mirror, signal, manoeuvre.

0:22:36 > 0:22:38Come on, Ricky, or we'll never get there.

0:22:39 > 0:22:41Mirror, signal, manoeuvre, don't panic. It's OK.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44- Right. Sorry, I mean left. - Whoa, whoa, whoa.

0:22:44 > 0:22:45Stop, stop here, I need to go slower.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47Slower, slower, can we go slower?

0:22:47 > 0:22:48Slower?

0:22:48 > 0:22:50We've just been overtaken by a tree.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53- Do you want to get out and walk? - Well, it'd be quicker.

0:22:53 > 0:22:54There!

0:22:54 > 0:22:55CRASHING

0:22:55 > 0:22:56Oh, great.

0:23:09 > 0:23:11The best in the West for your test.

0:23:11 > 0:23:13I took my driving test here...

0:23:13 > 0:23:14..nine times.

0:23:15 > 0:23:18Hm... Strange, looks a bit...

0:23:18 > 0:23:19..shut.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21Sorry, we are closed.

0:23:21 > 0:23:22Have been for years.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24Carrots?

0:23:25 > 0:23:27Carrots?

0:23:27 > 0:23:30Awesome! I mean, awesomely bad luck.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32Spot on for a bit of rad boarding, though.

0:23:32 > 0:23:35Weaving in and out of the cones, a bit of 4-wheel skills.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37I'm down with that.

0:23:37 > 0:23:39I've got no idea what you're talking about.

0:23:39 > 0:23:40Come on, dude. I mean, Dad.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55Ninja skills!

0:23:56 > 0:23:59Sorry we're late, mate. We got really lost.

0:23:59 > 0:24:01A nice man did give us directions, though.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06- How did the test go?- Brilliantly, as in, it didn't happen.

0:24:06 > 0:24:10And some even better news, I've got all the gear and a great idea.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13So, I guess it's time to get our ninja on.

0:24:18 > 0:24:20ENGINE REVS

0:24:35 > 0:24:38I'll give you a clue. It involves a formula.

0:24:40 > 0:24:42I've never really been very good at maths.

0:24:42 > 0:24:44Come on, let's get motoring.

0:24:49 > 0:24:52First, I'm painting some road markings.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58- I'll line those up, you go grab some more.- Yeah?- Oh.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07So, Gavin, grab the knobbly bit and point it into the middle.

0:25:07 > 0:25:10Right, yeah. Like big building blocks.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12Any ideas what it is yet?

0:25:14 > 0:25:16- Give me a sign. - I'll give you a signed.

0:25:16 > 0:25:19Quiz time, who can name these traffic signs?

0:25:33 > 0:25:35Come on.

0:25:44 > 0:25:46Now, I would tell you what it is, but it would be a spoiler.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00And that, my ninja buddies, is looking pretty good.

0:26:00 > 0:26:03I still can't see what it is, though.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05That's because there's one important thing missing.

0:26:05 > 0:26:06Oh, yeah, what's that?

0:26:07 > 0:26:08Dad's car.

0:26:13 > 0:26:14TYRES SQUEAL

0:26:16 > 0:26:18Dad, slow down!

0:26:57 > 0:27:00I think I'll skateboard home, driving is not for me.

0:27:15 > 0:27:16Phew!

0:27:16 > 0:27:20I'm so glad the driving test centre turned out to be closed.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22And after dad's driving,

0:27:22 > 0:27:24I'm definitely sticking with skateboarding.

0:27:26 > 0:27:27PHONE RINGS
