0:00:05 > 0:00:08This is Blue Peter, but mini.

0:00:08 > 0:00:13Expect epic adventures, makes, fakes, badges, pets,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15presenters and your post.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18We've only got five minutes, so get ready for your Blue Peter adventure.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Today, I've travelled to the Isle of Man

0:00:23 > 0:00:25to take part in an incredible sport.

0:00:25 > 0:00:30It's going to take nerves of steel, real skill and extreme endurance.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32And, er, and a tin bath.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37This is the World Tin Bath Championships,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40and it attracts competitors from all over the globe.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43I'm catching up with founder Dave to find out more.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Now, my grandma and grandad actually had one of these tin baths in

0:00:46 > 0:00:47their front room,

0:00:47 > 0:00:50and I used to have a bath in it in front of the fire in their house.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54That's how old these things are. Do they have to be tin for this race?

0:00:54 > 0:00:55Yes, they've got to be tin.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57That's why it's the World Tin Bath Championship,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59as opposed to World Bath Championship.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00Yeah, that makes sense.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02And what does the bath have to be before it can float on water?

0:01:02 > 0:01:03How do you make it float?

0:01:03 > 0:01:06To make it float, you need two one-gallon cans on

0:01:06 > 0:01:09a piece of two by one, three, four foot wide.

0:01:09 > 0:01:10And that puts your float on it.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Tie it to the bath, get a paddle, and away you go.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Can I put a motor on it? Can I put an electric motor on it?

0:01:14 > 0:01:17- No electric motors, no outside agents.- Rockets?- No rockets.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20- No, we've had that.- OK. So just a tin bath.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22- Standard household tin bath. - I need a bath.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24I thought I could smell something.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26I think I'll do the comedy, thank you very much.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Right, no, an actual bath, please, Dave.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31This may seem like fun, but competitors take this event

0:01:31 > 0:01:36pretty seriously, and making your bath look good is all part of it.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40So I've given mine a bit of a Blue Peter makeover.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42My little tin bath beauty, isn't she gorgeous?

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Now, I know it's Blue Peter and I did want to paint it blue,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46but we didn't have any blue paint. So it's yellow.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47I've thought of everything.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49I've got a camera, you can see what I'm doing in the tin bath.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51I've got a bailout bowl.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53This is important because water is going to come into

0:01:53 > 0:01:55the bath, so I can bail the water out so I don't sink.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57If that gets into trouble, I've got another bowl,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59so I can bailout the bailout bowl.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00I've thought of everything.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05I've done some incredible things on Blue Peter,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07but today, I'm taking it to the next level.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12You can keep your power shower, and I don't need no soap.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15It's just me and my bathing machine.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17Let's do this.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24So the idea of this race is quite simple.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25I've got to get into my tin bath,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28which is very difficult to steer as a boat, and I've got to head out

0:02:28 > 0:02:31from here to the very end, you see where the bridge is in the distance?

0:02:31 > 0:02:33I've got to go under that, around that little sort of bunting line

0:02:33 > 0:02:35and then come back down here to the finish line.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Now, it's actually... Apparently, the most amount of sinkages, the

0:02:38 > 0:02:41people who go under the water, that happens here, right at the start.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43It's very difficult to get your balance.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46So as long as I get my balance right, I should be able to set off.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50'But that's easier said than done. As I soon discover.'

0:02:50 > 0:02:53All right, we are in. We're in. Oh, we were in.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55We're not in.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00'I'm sinking. Yeah, I'm actually sinking.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01'Not a good start.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08'OK, this is getting a bit embarrassing now.'

0:03:08 > 0:03:11- ANNOUNCER:- Blue Peter is not having a lot of success here.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13Now, the boat that I was in originally is no good,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15so Dave, the guy we met earlier on,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18the organiser who started this 50 years ago, he's given me the

0:03:18 > 0:03:21original tin bath that he raced in, that started this whole thing.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24So I'm driving an icon. It's older than Blue Peter.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26I can't wait to get in it and give it a go.

0:03:26 > 0:03:31'New boat, fresh start, and I think I'm getting the hang of it.'

0:03:31 > 0:03:32As soon as you start paddling,

0:03:32 > 0:03:34it actually becomes a bit more difficult to keep stable.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36I think the key here is, keep moving.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39And I think I've got steering down, I think. Just about.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Yeah, I think we're going to be OK.

0:03:41 > 0:03:42I think we're going to be fine on this one.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44'With the race only moments away,

0:03:44 > 0:03:48'I eventually join my fellow competitors at the start line.'

0:03:48 > 0:03:52- ANNOUNCER:- Are you ready?- Yes. - On your marks,

0:03:52 > 0:03:55set, go!

0:03:55 > 0:03:56'And we're off.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58'Now, considering I've done absolutely

0:03:58 > 0:04:01'no training for this, it seems to be going OK.'

0:04:01 > 0:04:05I'm past the yellow buoy. I'm past the yellow buoy. This is great news.

0:04:05 > 0:04:06This is great news.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11I'm also not dead last, there's this guy in the very sparkly shirt.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13OK, no, no, now I'm last, I'm last. That's OK.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17'I may be last, but I'm still afloat, unlike some others.'

0:04:17 > 0:04:21Man down, two men down. And Barney is still going strong.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25'Don't be too confident, Barney.' No, no, no. No!

0:04:25 > 0:04:27No!

0:04:27 > 0:04:30'And my fellow competitors aren't helping either.'

0:04:30 > 0:04:32Whoa! That's cheating.

0:04:32 > 0:04:33That's definitely cheating.

0:04:33 > 0:04:37'All this constant paddling is starting to take its toll.'

0:04:38 > 0:04:40This is so hard. I'm trying my hardest.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43I've lost all my strength because I'm using quite

0:04:43 > 0:04:47a lot of my energy to keep this thing floating and staying upright.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50'I'm almost halfway, but now for the tricky bit.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52'I need to turn under the bridge.'

0:04:52 > 0:04:55This is the hardest bit, this is where we can capsize.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57'Am I going to do it? Keep paddling.'

0:04:57 > 0:05:00No! No. 'Oh, no.

0:05:00 > 0:05:01'Oh, disaster.'

0:05:04 > 0:05:07That's so hard, I was so close!

0:05:07 > 0:05:10'I've had so much fun. And I may not be the World Tin Bath

0:05:10 > 0:05:13champion, but I gave it my very best shot.'

0:05:13 > 0:05:15Yeah, I need a bath.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17A real one.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19'Join in every Thursday at CBBC.'
