0:00:05 > 0:00:08This is Blue Peter, but mini.

0:00:08 > 0:00:12Expect epic adventures, makes, bakes, badges, pets,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15presenters and your post.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19We've only got five minutes, so get ready for your Blue Peter adventure.

0:00:20 > 0:00:26Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Tetbury Woolsack Race -

0:00:26 > 0:00:29a stunning display of athletic ability run every year in

0:00:29 > 0:00:31a small village in Gloucestershire.

0:00:31 > 0:00:35It just so happens it involves huge sacks of wool.

0:00:36 > 0:00:42When I HERD about this un-EWE-sual event, I thought, "Ba-a-ah!"

0:00:42 > 0:00:44No-one's going to pull the WOOL over my eyes!

0:00:44 > 0:00:48I'd better JUMPER to it! I'll stop now. I'm going to stop.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Ah, sheep gags...

0:00:50 > 0:00:53The aim of the game is to run as fast as you can through the

0:00:53 > 0:00:57village, up a hill, carrying 27 kilos of wool.

0:00:58 > 0:01:03Un-BA-A-A-AH-lievable. Another sheep joke! Ha!

0:01:03 > 0:01:05"But why?" I hear you ask.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Well... Actually, I've got no idea. Cue the history bit.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14For hundreds of years, Tetbury has been known for its excellent wool.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18And it's thought local men used to impress ladies

0:01:18 > 0:01:22with how fast they could carry it. And who wouldn't be impressed?

0:01:22 > 0:01:27In 1972, that tradition was turned into an official race.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30Now I've been invited to take part.

0:01:34 > 0:01:39With no training or preparation, I should probably warm up.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42But it only takes five seconds of slow-mo shots for me to realise

0:01:42 > 0:01:46this sack is very heavy and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52Thankfully, though, I've bumped into current women's record holder

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Lucy and some of her friends.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Ladies, you are the perfect people to speak to.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58How on Earth do I do this?

0:01:58 > 0:02:01Erm, I think picking up the bag is the most important thing.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04You've got to get a really good grip and make sure it sits right

0:02:04 > 0:02:05on your shoulders.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07If it's too far forward, it's going to hammer your legs.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09So getting that right is pretty crucial, I think.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Yeah, and climbing up,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13I think you've just got to go slow and steady.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16I think...too quick out of the blocks and then by the time you hit

0:02:16 > 0:02:19the actual hill, you've lost it, so just a slow, steady pace.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Pacing, yeah, definitely pacing.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Bit of a tip, to kind of bounce it off your knee

0:02:23 > 0:02:25and then just try to get as much grip as you can

0:02:25 > 0:02:29- because otherwise your hands are going to slip off.- So, here, up...

0:02:29 > 0:02:32- Bounce it off your knee. And then... - Over the head, wow!

0:02:32 > 0:02:35- Exactly!- Not bad!- Well done! - Do you know what?

0:02:35 > 0:02:38This is a game-changer because I was going to go lengthways

0:02:38 > 0:02:40but you're going diagonal.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Definitely go diagonal cos then you can breathe, you can keep your

0:02:43 > 0:02:45neck sort of straight, so you can actually get air in.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48What could possibly go wrong, eh? See you guys out there!

0:02:49 > 0:02:53As well as a women's event, there's a team and a men's competition

0:02:53 > 0:02:56but before all that, it's the juniors' turn.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59And these guys aren't messing around.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03- Three, two, one... - KLAXON

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Off they go! I mean, check that out.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09If I could get anywhere near that, I'd be very happy indeed.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Maybe THEY could give me some top tips.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16- You have just run the woolsack race. How was it?- Wet!

0:03:16 > 0:03:20- Rather wet.- Really fun but I thought I might slip when I was coming up.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24It was really exciting and the support was really amazing.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27I found it very fun but very exhausting at the same time.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31Do you have a piece of advice for me? Anything that might help me?

0:03:31 > 0:03:34Find your pace to go up the hill and when you get further up,

0:03:34 > 0:03:36start getting faster and faster.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Make sure you have a good grip on the sack

0:03:38 > 0:03:42and don't try and readjust it cos you could drop it then.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Kind of lean over because then you're in more of

0:03:44 > 0:03:47a streamlined position, so you'll go faster.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51Fives! They're awesome. Now, that's what I call advice.

0:03:51 > 0:03:56But just as I'm gearing myself up for it, the heavens open!

0:03:56 > 0:03:59Which will make things even trickier.

0:03:59 > 0:04:04The woolsack will be heavier and both the sack and floor slippier.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06- Race four is Radzi! - HE MOUTHS

0:04:06 > 0:04:08This is the last thing I need but, hey,

0:04:08 > 0:04:11this is Blue Peter and I'm not letting a little bit of water

0:04:11 > 0:04:14stop me. To the start line!

0:04:15 > 0:04:17- ALL:- Go, Radzi!

0:04:17 > 0:04:20OK, just remember everyone's advice.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24- Find your pace to go up the hill. - Try and get as much grip as you can.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26Kind of lean over.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29Wise words, they were. But can I put it into practice?

0:04:29 > 0:04:34- On your marks, get set, go! - Come on, Radzi! And we're off!

0:04:34 > 0:04:37This is a challenge just to stay on my feet.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41But this is the hill. This is where the legs start to burn.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44CHEERING AND SHOUTING

0:04:44 > 0:04:48The crowd support means so much, I cannot let them down.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51My legs are burning, my lungs are burning,

0:04:51 > 0:04:53but I will cross the finish line.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57Ah! That was hard.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05In case you're wondering, that was really very, very tiring.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12The all-time record is an incredible 45 seconds, but how did I do?

0:05:12 > 0:05:17Radzi, Blue Peter presenter, 1:10.34.

0:05:17 > 0:05:21I tried my best to beat the guy in front of me but I didn't win,

0:05:21 > 0:05:24I didn't break any records, but what I did do was I had a fantastic time.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26And this crowd, by the way, are awesome,

0:05:26 > 0:05:28cheering you on all the way.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30And who did I do it for? I did it for this thing.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32The Blue Peter badge.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36Now, I need a towel because my hair is very wet.
