:00:14. > :00:17.Coming up on today's live Blue Peter:
:00:17. > :00:24.Marcus Collins gives you an exclusive back-stage pass to the X
:00:24. > :00:30.Factor live tour rehearsals - and not everything is going to plan.
:00:30. > :00:33.That wasn't meant to happen. If you're stuck for what to get
:00:33. > :00:36.your mum this Mothers' Day, don't miss our vintage-inspired jewellery
:00:37. > :00:46.make that won't break the bank. Plus, Dr. Who's assistant Amy Pond
:00:47. > :01:03.
:01:03. > :01:08.APPLAUSE It's amazing what they'll do if you
:01:08. > :01:13.throw them a fish. Welcome to Blue Peter. Watch.
:01:13. > :01:18.That's how live we are. We've got celebrities, competitions, even a
:01:18. > :01:23.little bit of X Factor. (Dramatic music)
:01:23. > :01:28.I needed writing on my arm for that to work properly. As he said, we're
:01:28. > :01:38.live. That means you can get involved. Unlike a lot of other
:01:38. > :01:41.
:01:41. > :01:45.shows on telly, you can give us feedback, and we mention your name.
:01:45. > :01:55.Lionel Messi scored five goals in a Champions' League match. What is
:01:55. > :01:58.
:01:58. > :02:01.your biggest achievement? Drop us Helen. Here's a question for you.
:02:01. > :02:05.If you were to have your life turned into a movie, who would you
:02:05. > :02:11.want to have in the leading role? This is a story I love telling. I
:02:11. > :02:16.would love film actress Kate Hudson from Bride Wars to play me. I was
:02:16. > :02:23.told a look a little bit like her. Do the pose - the pout. I can't do
:02:23. > :02:30.it. Do you know who I would be? Jack Black from Guliver's Travels.
:02:30. > :02:36.You do have a little bit of a resemblance. I think he could play
:02:36. > :02:40.a really good Barney. I need to hug you for that. But he has a little
:02:40. > :02:45.bit more padding than you have. This is a fictitious conversation
:02:45. > :02:50.between us, but this actually happened to one family in Devon.
:02:50. > :02:53.Their life's story was turned into a film, and I went to meet them.
:02:53. > :02:58.Imagine what it would feel like to find out that the story of your
:02:58. > :03:03.life was being turned into a blockbuster film with super-famous
:03:03. > :03:07.actor Matt Damon starring as your dad and two Hollywood child actors
:03:07. > :03:13.playing you or your brother or sister. That is exactly what
:03:13. > :03:16.happened to 10-year-old Mylo and eight-year-old Ellen Meade. Six
:03:16. > :03:20.years ago, their dad Benjamin decided to move their family from
:03:20. > :03:26.the South of France to here in south Devon. Instead of buying a
:03:26. > :03:29.normal house, they bought this place - Dartmoor Zoo. With 30 acres
:03:29. > :03:34.and over 200 animals from around the world, it's not your average
:03:34. > :03:39.place to grow up, but it became the children's home. Now their life
:03:39. > :03:45.story has been made into a movie, the new Hollywood blockbuster We
:03:45. > :03:50.Bought a Zoo. This place is perfect. It's a bit complicated. What's so
:03:50. > :03:55.complicated about this place? (Roar.)
:03:55. > :03:59.It's a zoo. Yeah! Back in 2006, this zoo was due to be shut down
:03:59. > :04:03.forever. In spite of having no experience of caring for wild
:04:03. > :04:07.animals, the family couldn't resist saving it and becoming part-time
:04:07. > :04:16.keepers to its animal residents. Did you have any animals before you
:04:16. > :04:20.moved here? We had a really big dog called Leon. But one big dog is a
:04:20. > :04:25.lot different to tigers, bears and noisy goats.
:04:25. > :04:31.And there must be a lot of differences between living in a
:04:31. > :04:40.normal house and a zoo house. Do they keep you awake at night?
:04:40. > :04:44.bears growl. The wolves howl at night. I now hardly ever notice it.
:04:44. > :04:48.Although the zoo is in south Devon, the movie is set in southern
:04:48. > :04:52.California. When so much detail has been changed from the Meade's real
:04:52. > :04:57.story, it has made me wonder how much of the film is fact and how
:04:57. > :05:02.much is fiction. I am Benjamin. This is Rosie, my daughter.
:05:02. > :05:09.And my big boy, Dylan. This is a Hollywood movie, so it doesn't
:05:09. > :05:14.totally mirror your lives. What are the differences? Well, Sasha's -
:05:14. > :05:18.I'm not called Dylan. Mylo. And in the film, he's really moody. He
:05:18. > :05:22.doesn't want to move to the do. This is what you want. It's not
:05:22. > :05:28.what I want! I am the opposite of that. And he had a love interest.
:05:28. > :05:33.Do you have a girlfriend here? What about you? Same as Mylo, in
:05:33. > :05:37.the film I am called Rosie. I would love to see the otters and the
:05:37. > :05:41.snakes and the monkeys. What about the dog? The dog was completely
:05:41. > :05:45.different. He was really big, and in the film, he's just a small
:05:45. > :05:53.beagle. This is our dog, Leon, and this is
:05:53. > :05:59.our zoo now - I guess. So Matt Damon plays your dad in the
:05:59. > :06:04.film. Yes, he is classed as a bit of a heart-throb. Ladies love him.
:06:05. > :06:08.Do you think your dad looks anything like Matt Damon? Um, not
:06:08. > :06:13.that much. You're handsomer than the other dads. Lots of them don't
:06:13. > :06:18.have hair, so that's good. Matt Damon's got quite a lot of hair.
:06:18. > :06:23.Yeah. My dad hasn't got any hair. The film is finished. It's out in
:06:23. > :06:28.the cinemas soon. Have you guys seen it? Yeah, we went to the
:06:28. > :06:34.premier in New York, and you have to go on the red carpet. 50 or more
:06:34. > :06:38.people going, Mylo, Ella, look over here! There were about five stops
:06:38. > :06:42.of pictures and a hundred stops of interviews. What's it like seeing
:06:42. > :06:47.your life up on the cinema screens? It was exciting because you have
:06:47. > :06:51.never seen this film before, and it's about you. Right at the end, I
:06:51. > :06:55.really began to realise, oh, yeah, this is our story! So you have
:06:55. > :07:00.tasted the movie life. You're involved in the zoo. Do you want to
:07:00. > :07:03.be an actor or a zookeeper? Both. Both. You're kind of doing both,
:07:03. > :07:08.aren't you? That means we have chores to do. What's next? We're
:07:08. > :07:12.going to feed the meerkats. Let's not keep them waiting. One thing
:07:12. > :07:16.the film did get right is they help with the running of the zoo. One of
:07:16. > :07:21.their jobs includes giving their visitors talks about the smaller
:07:21. > :07:30.animals, including the meerkats and some rather squeaky otters. This
:07:30. > :07:34.one here is Temoan. This one is Sue. This otter is actually semiaquatic.
:07:34. > :07:38.Everyone, everyone, like that. Thank you for coming. I hope you
:07:38. > :07:42.enjoy your day at the zoo. APPLAUSE
:07:42. > :07:48.Mylo and Ella seem pretty confident around these little guys, but not
:07:48. > :07:53.all the zoo's residents are quite so cute.
:07:53. > :07:58.Whoa! That's right. It's time to feed the zoo's three hungry
:07:58. > :08:03.Siberian tigers. These massive cats are safely behind bars while we put
:08:03. > :08:07.out their meals. Whatever is in this bucket... This is...
:08:07. > :08:12.Absolutely stinks! This is a horse's neck. It's the closest to a
:08:12. > :08:22.zebra, which they normally eat in the wild. I think we should get out
:08:22. > :08:30.
:08:30. > :08:34.Well, thank you for showing me around your zoo. Would you ever
:08:34. > :08:38.swap this zoo for the movie version? No. No. I don't think I
:08:38. > :08:43.would either. How on earth could you top those three?
:08:43. > :08:50.Now, you may think those tigers are scary, but you haven't seen this
:08:50. > :08:56.one running fors a biscuit. That is terrifying. Look at him go! Right.
:08:56. > :09:02.Still to come on today's show, the Doctor's Twisty assistant Amy Pond
:09:02. > :09:06.needs you to enter a writing competition. Marcus Collins gives
:09:06. > :09:12.you an exclusive backstage pass to the X Factor rehearsals for the
:09:12. > :09:18.live tour. First, find out how I created my frozen self-portrait
:09:18. > :09:25.without ever leaving the comfort of a warm studio. What you call a cool
:09:25. > :09:31.shoot. I see what you did there. Mothering week is around the corner.
:09:31. > :09:39.You want to show someone you appreciate them. One way to do that
:09:39. > :09:43.is by making a hand-made gift. I make this vintage-looking broo.
:09:43. > :09:48.Here is how you can make your very own.
:09:48. > :09:53.Mothers - when it comes to Mothers' Day, we never know what to buy them.
:09:53. > :09:58.Should you go for the classic flowers option, a box of chocolates,
:09:58. > :10:04.or maybe go super-sentimental and give her a framed photo of yourself.
:10:04. > :10:09.Well, if you're looking for a gift that's a bit more unusual than the
:10:09. > :10:15.typical Mother's Day presents, come with me. This is Fats Cassene, an
:10:15. > :10:19.independent fashion and jewellery designer. She specialises in
:10:19. > :10:23.creating contemporary hand-made jewellery with a vintage male.
:10:24. > :10:28.Today she's agreed to show you how you can make an absolutely gorgeous
:10:28. > :10:31.accessory to give to your loved one this Mother's Day.
:10:32. > :10:36.Thank you so much for letting us gate crash your studio. What are we
:10:36. > :10:41.going to do? Make a flower brooch today, perfect for the day. Where
:10:41. > :10:45.do we start? Get your fabric. starts by getting me to make petals
:10:45. > :10:50.out of the fabric. We're going to cut out triangle shapes, or maybe
:10:50. > :10:55.you can round it off. You'll need at least four large, four medium
:10:55. > :11:02.and six smaller petals. Think about the colours your mum might like.
:11:02. > :11:07.like recycling because I hate throwing things out - things I
:11:07. > :11:11.don't use. Me too. Next up, the middle of the flower. Use two
:11:11. > :11:17.circles, one larger one, which is going to be the base, then the
:11:17. > :11:24.small one for the circle. I have my two circles and a pile of petals.
:11:24. > :11:31.Now we need the glue. We're going to put glue down the centre back of
:11:31. > :11:37.the petal, just halfway down. using craft glue. This ends up
:11:37. > :11:42.clear. Now it's time to arrange the petals in the shape of a flower.
:11:43. > :11:46.Press it down. Leave it for a second, then squeeze.
:11:46. > :11:54.Next up, you'll need broken jewellery to make your centrepiece.
:11:54. > :11:59.If you don't have any lying around, try charity shops or ask your aunts
:12:00. > :12:06.and friends. A nice Bob of glue. You need to find a centrepiece and
:12:06. > :12:10.some nice little ones around it - perfect. Those look nice. Sprinkle
:12:10. > :12:17.some around. Now we need to leave this to set. Whilst that is drying,
:12:17. > :12:21.we need to make the back of the brooch. You need to use a safety
:12:21. > :12:26.pin, then two rectangles, a generous amount of glue on it. Hold
:12:26. > :12:30.your safety pin. Paint down all the side - quite generous as well, so
:12:30. > :12:35.place on the petal. Hold the pin until it's set, and you're almost
:12:35. > :12:41.done. When this is dry, we'll put it on
:12:41. > :12:45.the back of the brooch. OK. With the brooch ready, it's time to add
:12:45. > :12:50.the finishing touches. I liked how the other one looked a bit frayed
:12:50. > :12:54.and distressed. I'll show you how to fray the edges. Hold it and just
:12:54. > :12:57.- can you see how it starts to come away? It's starting to get there,
:12:57. > :13:02.isn't it? Yeah.
:13:02. > :13:08.Once you're happy with the look of your flower, stick it to the safety
:13:08. > :13:13.pin, and there you have it, your very own one-off Mother's Day gift.
:13:13. > :13:16.If you head over to the Blue Peter website, you'll find a step-by-step
:13:16. > :13:21.guide. While you're there, check out the exclusive web clip showing
:13:21. > :13:26.you how to make one of these bracelets. I think they're quite
:13:26. > :13:31.funky. You can even make a headband out of one of those... Helen...
:13:31. > :13:41.Hang on! Send us one of your photographs and... I am going to do
:13:41. > :13:43.
:13:43. > :13:46.my impression now. See if you can guess who it is. Ready?
:13:46. > :13:48.(Voice of Peter Dickson). "And now, live in the Blue Peter
:13:48. > :13:56.studio, it's Helen Skelton!" Wow, that's amazing. It's that guy
:13:56. > :14:02.from the X Factor, right? "That's right, Peter Dickson." I
:14:02. > :14:05.love that guy. $NEWLINE "Why, thank you!"
:14:05. > :14:08.Well, Barney, seeing as you've got the voice down, I think you should
:14:08. > :14:12.do this next bit. "Now, for a Blue Peter exclusive.
:14:12. > :14:16.It's time - to Face - the Music!" The X Factor has intertained you in
:14:16. > :14:20.your millions on your telly boxes at home. Just when you thought it
:14:20. > :14:28.was over for another year, the gang are hitting the road to bring you
:14:28. > :14:33.the X Factor live tour 2012. We're about to give you lucky Blue Peter
:14:33. > :14:39.viewers an exclusive backstage pass without having to leave the comfort
:14:39. > :14:49.of your home. This year's tour kicks off, and now Marcus Collins
:14:49. > :14:54.wants to give you an inside story This is where it all happens. The
:14:54. > :14:59.big celebrities have been here, Jessie J, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga.
:14:59. > :15:05.This is where we are rehearsing for the X Factor tour. Check it out.
:15:05. > :15:11.This is the clothes rail for the tour. This is Johnny's. This is one
:15:11. > :15:21.of mine. Bright red, Liverpool. We support Liverpool! This is the
:15:21. > :15:23.
:15:23. > :15:29.dressing room for the male artists. Hello, lads. How are you doing?
:15:29. > :15:34.is The Risk. They took 9th place in last year's show. What is it like
:15:34. > :15:38.being on tour now that the competition is over? Have you been
:15:38. > :15:42.supporting the other acts? Yes. It is nice to be back together to see
:15:42. > :15:46.everyone and support each other. It is not a competition now so it is
:15:46. > :15:50.friendlier. Everybody has grown in the last couple of months, just
:15:50. > :15:54.watching them, compared to on the show with the pressure and the
:15:54. > :15:59.nerves. Now they can relax and be themselves and it is nice to see
:15:59. > :16:03.them enjoy themselves. It is the last rehearsal. Are you nervous?
:16:03. > :16:08.All or nothing today. We feel prepare because we have been
:16:08. > :16:14.rehearsing for two weeks solid. We are ready, aren't we, boys? What do
:16:14. > :16:18.you do to relax backstage? We have all got our earphones and we listen
:16:18. > :16:24.to music and have a laugh. Conversation, writing songs and
:16:24. > :16:31.stuff. We have been writing music and that chills you out.
:16:31. > :16:38.It takes 130 tonnes of staging, 180 lights and 92 backstage staff to
:16:38. > :16:42.get this show on the road. Manchester! And 17 year-old Janet
:16:42. > :16:46.and Amelia cannot believe how lucky they are to be here. We are the
:16:46. > :16:51.youngest on the tour as well. We should be in college and we are
:16:51. > :16:58.going to be performing in arenas in front of thousands of people.
:16:58. > :17:05.wonder where markers is. Have you seen him? No. With Marcus pulled
:17:05. > :17:11.into more rehearsals it is down to me to interview the overall winners.
:17:11. > :17:15.Hello. We are Little Miss. Yes, I know. What are you enjoying most
:17:15. > :17:22.about the tour? We have been rehearsing all day, dancing and
:17:22. > :17:32.singing. It has been fun. favourite dance routine, Super bass.
:17:32. > :17:34.
:17:34. > :17:42.I like the dance break in it. favourite is empty. The harnesses
:17:42. > :17:47.start digging in to us. Any other downside to being popular?
:17:47. > :17:51.hardest part is that it is non-stop. We have to do six songs in a row.
:17:51. > :17:57.We are not very fit but this will be a good way to get ourselves into
:17:57. > :18:06.shape. With his routine over, markers is back to grill the most
:18:06. > :18:10.important lady on the tour, his boss! You have an important job.
:18:10. > :18:15.Yes, I am show producer and choreographer of the expat the tour.
:18:16. > :18:23.I put together the whole vision of it. -- the X Factor tour.
:18:23. > :18:29.surprises? Yes! She is not giving anything away its but we are
:18:29. > :18:33.determined to get the gossip. there any performances that stand
:18:33. > :18:37.out? I have to say yours because you have some fantastic ones and
:18:37. > :18:40.you are very lucky. You have some brilliant performances taken from
:18:40. > :18:46.the television show. With rehearsals drawing to a close, it
:18:46. > :18:50.is time to give him a well-earned break, so his best mate Craig, who
:18:50. > :18:55.took 6th place in the competition, grabbed the microphone to fulfil a
:18:55. > :19:00.lifelong dream. I have always wanted to be a Blue Peter presenter.
:19:00. > :19:04.This is opportunity. Are you excited about this job? I cannot
:19:04. > :19:08.put into words how it feels. It feels right to be on stage. You get
:19:08. > :19:16.to meet the fans face-to-face, the people that supported us and it
:19:16. > :19:20.will be nice to meet them. What are the worst bits? Pyrotechnics. My
:19:20. > :19:26.hair nearly set on fire. I did not know the sparks would go next to me
:19:26. > :19:30.and I was shocked. Was that meant to happen?! I slipped over a couple
:19:30. > :19:37.of times and I don't want to do that but bad rehearsal and a good
:19:37. > :19:42.performance was stop exactly. rehearsals have officially finished.
:19:42. > :19:47.The next stop for these guys, the live shows.
:19:47. > :19:51.I love it. And we have got an exclusive performance from Marcus
:19:51. > :19:56.Collins later in the show. Don't go anywhere. Here is a chance to see
:19:56. > :20:00.your writing turned into an excellent episode of Doctor Who. If
:20:00. > :20:10.you are aged between 9 and 11 you should enter this competition.
:20:10. > :20:11.
:20:11. > :20:15.Pond has more information. Blue Peter viewers, pay attention.
:20:15. > :20:18.There are dark forces trying to jam this transmission so why do not
:20:18. > :20:24.have long. I am still trapped in a land of fixture with the Doctor.
:20:24. > :20:27.There are no stories, no action and no hope. The only way to escape
:20:27. > :20:33.from this living nothing this is for one of you to think up a story,
:20:33. > :20:38.set on another planet or here, a story about the Olympics, but not
:20:38. > :20:47.in 2012. You can take the Doctor anywhere in time and space. But you
:20:47. > :20:50.only have until March 16th to rescue us. Please, please help us.
:20:50. > :20:56.There is still some time to get your entries in but you have to
:20:56. > :21:00.start writing. You look excited. am excited. Get involved. Go to the
:21:00. > :21:05.website and click on the loan. is nearly Sport Relief and you have
:21:05. > :21:08.a chance to get involved. John Bishop, the comedian, has been
:21:08. > :21:13.doing a marathon and all sorts of other things to raise some
:21:13. > :21:18.sponsorship and awareness for this amazing charity. Fantastic effort.
:21:18. > :21:21.No wonder he is cheering. It is all about raising awareness and getting
:21:21. > :21:25.sponsorship for Sport Relief. Before I went to the South Pole I
:21:25. > :21:29.had to take a publicity picture to show you what I might look like.
:21:29. > :21:33.But let me tell you a secret. I might look frozen in that
:21:33. > :21:38.photograph but it was actually taken in a very warm studio. This
:21:38. > :21:43.is how it worked. It is the picture that has appeared
:21:43. > :21:47.across the UK to raise awareness of my Sport Relief Antarctic challenge.
:21:47. > :21:54.How do you take a photograph of somebody in a South Pole before
:21:54. > :21:58.they have even left the UK? The first port of call, make-up magic.
:21:58. > :22:02.Normally when I am at a photo-shoot I have smoky eyes, lip gloss, big
:22:02. > :22:10.eyelashes. This is different. They are going to put red colouring on
:22:10. > :22:15.me so I look like I have got windburn. I am now suitably burnt!
:22:15. > :22:19.But for the correct look I need ice, magically created by salt and sugar,
:22:19. > :22:22.just like what you find in your cupboards at home. I want to
:22:22. > :22:29.flatter my eyelashes but I am nervous about shaking of the
:22:29. > :22:33.crystals. They look cool. Giving me the polar low it is just one part
:22:33. > :22:39.of creating the photograph. My eyelashes will be wasted without
:22:39. > :22:44.the right background. I did a lot of research on Arctic skies and
:22:44. > :22:51.they are just like British ones, basically! It is either a nice or
:22:51. > :22:58.nasty. Make-up, background, costume, check! It is amazing that it takes
:22:58. > :23:05.a halt team of people to conjure up my one photograph. -- a whole team.
:23:05. > :23:12.Is that sold? Yes. And probably not very nice! There is one last trick
:23:12. > :23:17.to complete the illusion. Spraying my jacket with water and ice. At

:23:37. > :23:46.I strike a pose after pose, the photographer checks the images on
:23:46. > :23:51.the computer until we are all happy that we have got the perfect shot.
:23:51. > :23:56.And this is it. If only I looked so glamorous when I was in the South
:23:56. > :24:02.Pole! I was rubbing salt and sugar out of my eyelashes for days and it
:24:02. > :24:09.was painful! That was a great photograph. We asked you to let us
:24:10. > :24:14.know what your biggest achievement so far is. This is because Lionel
:24:14. > :24:24.Messi has scored five goals for the first time in a Champions League

:24:34. > :24:39.Well done. Merely says that her biggest achievement was winning a

:24:45. > :24:49.don't know if they mean you all the dog! Probably the dog because he is
:24:49. > :24:54.better looking! Thank you so much for getting in touch. We love it
:24:54. > :24:59.when you are part of the show. Next week you can be part of this.
:24:59. > :25:06.Cooking does not get other than this. I go head-to-head with Aaron

:25:09. > :25:16.will be joining us live in the studio to talk about their brand
:25:16. > :25:21.new show. Anything could happen! With those two and you it will be
:25:21. > :25:27.chaos! We promise to an explosive performance from Marcus Collins and
:25:27. > :25:31.it is almost time to get dancing. Can I do it? Go on!
:25:31. > :25:34.PETER DICKSON'S VOICE: It is Marcus Collins with Higher and Higher.
:25:34. > :25:44.That is very good! See you next week.
