:00:15. > :00:21.Coming up on Blue Peter. Anything could happen, dom are here, live in
:00:21. > :00:24.the studio to give you the inside story on their brand-new show. Ed
:00:24. > :00:29.digs deep into how you can improve your drawing and cooking doesn't
:00:29. > :00:34.get tougher than this. I go head- to-head with Aaron Craze, to
:00:34. > :00:44.discover how to create an eco- friendly feast. How do you know
:00:44. > :00:57.
:00:57. > :01:00.when a tomato is roasted. Barney Hi. Hello. Thanks very much. How
:01:00. > :01:05.you doing? Welcome to Blue Peter. It is a live show. As you can see
:01:05. > :01:09.Helen is not here, so I am save sailing this ship on my own. Not
:01:09. > :01:16.that I mind, while she is away the boys will play. It is an extreme
:01:16. > :01:20.show. We have extreme cooking, the extreme Dick and Dom. They are here
:01:20. > :01:27.to talk about their new show Diddy Movies. They are getting ready,
:01:27. > :01:35.sorry, a bit of interference there. Hello. I'm Diddy Barney. Who are
:01:35. > :01:42.you? Diddy Baxter? I am Diddy Celt Celt. And recently I have been to
:01:42. > :01:48.the South Pole. Really? I had to poo in a bag and wait for it to
:01:48. > :01:54.freeze, then I put it in my pocket. You know what, smells like it is
:01:54. > :01:59.starting to thaw out. Do you want to have a look. It is thawing out.
:01:59. > :02:02.It smells like lemons. I have never seen our producer looking so
:02:02. > :02:05.nervous. Dick and Dom are live in the studio. If you would like to
:02:05. > :02:11.ask them a question, you can. In is live. This is happening right now.
:02:11. > :02:14.We would like do you ask them any question you like.
:02:14. > :02:18.Bluepeter@bbc.co.uk. The crazier the better. Only e-mail if you are
:02:18. > :02:24.watching this on Thursday. Now, we like to give you the inside story
:02:24. > :02:29.here, and we know you love to draw. How cool would it be to draw for
:02:29. > :02:34.the most amazing stories round the country? We found out that Ed also
:02:34. > :02:44.happens to be a bit of a cartoonist, so we sent him to get top tips from
:02:44. > :02:44.
:02:45. > :02:48.the expert. I love reading. And I love drawing even more. If you ask
:02:48. > :02:52.me, some of the best books are made better by the illustrations inside
:02:52. > :02:59.them. So I have brought a pad, a pen, and a short story I have
:02:59. > :03:05.written to this school where I will get some tips from a top children's
:03:05. > :03:10.illustrator. This is Corky Paul. He has been illustrating children's
:03:10. > :03:15.books for over 30 years. In that time he has drawn everything there
:03:15. > :03:19.is to draw, including witch, dragons and pirates. He is really
:03:19. > :03:25.good. He is here to give the children some tips on how to draw
:03:25. > :03:32.their characters. I have tagged along to see if I can pick up
:03:32. > :03:40.advice. Let us see, who shall we draw a dinosaur portrait of? Come
:03:40. > :03:46.on up Ed. Don't make my nose look too big. By exaggerating my
:03:46. > :03:53.features, he can turn me into a comedy dinosaur. I was captain of
:03:53. > :04:00.the cross-country team. My feet aren't that big! A bit of yellow in
:04:00. > :04:05.there. A bit of grass. Look at that! I have just about forgiven
:04:05. > :04:11.you for turning me into an ugly dinosaur. I think you look handsome.
:04:11. > :04:16.I wonder if you could help me illustrate this story. It is about
:04:16. > :04:19.a handsome and talented TV presenter. It is not based on
:04:19. > :04:25.anyone in reality! He is training a snail. He takes him to Paris to
:04:25. > :04:29.show him how much he believes in him. He doesn't realise snails
:04:29. > :04:34.areadelica si in France. That is when he sprints off down the road
:04:34. > :04:38.and he becomes the fastest snail in the world. Where do you start?
:04:38. > :04:44.have to have your text and pictures work together. My first thing, I
:04:44. > :04:49.would think, Ned, I have to draw a picture of Ned here. So let us see,
:04:49. > :04:55.what will he look like. A very handsome guy. Very handsome. Let us
:04:55. > :04:59.see now. Do I do handsome guys? Yes, I can do handsome. So there are so
:04:59. > :05:02.many things you need to be an illustrator. What is the most
:05:02. > :05:08.important? The most important, I think, is using your imagination, I
:05:08. > :05:12.mean lots of people can draw, but it is being able to create your own
:05:12. > :05:17.vision of the world. He is looking glum. He is poor. He is poor. He
:05:17. > :05:20.keeps spending on training this snail. Exactly. He can't afford
:05:20. > :05:22.haircuts. You work out the character. This is what I love in
:05:22. > :05:27.illustration, when your eye is drawn to something that wasn't in
:05:27. > :05:35.the story. You think a what is that doing there. The other character,
:05:35. > :05:38.the snail. Harold the snail. You think about a snail. There are
:05:38. > :05:43.snails with incredible patterns. Every time you draw a scene. Think
:05:43. > :05:48.of how can I draw the scene in an unusual way, rather than front on.
:05:48. > :05:52.We have a kid looking up at something. You want to have the
:05:52. > :05:57.kid's view. Don't do the most obvious thing. I think that is good
:05:57. > :06:03.already. I use the pen and ink, and maybe we will improve the drawing a
:06:03. > :06:11.bit here. Some 06 the tips are suprising, he has given me loads of
:06:11. > :06:15.ideas for my own drawings. Tink is still wet. Are you I am doing that
:06:15. > :06:21.on purpose? When you try to make a negative into a positive, rather
:06:21. > :06:28.than trying to hide it. You can make a big old mess and say I meant
:06:28. > :06:33.to do that. Can't believe the speed you work out, these are great.
:06:33. > :06:37.know, when you have a deadline to meet. I was hoping I could take
:06:37. > :06:43.them away for inspiration. Please do. I will try and illustrate my
:06:43. > :06:47.own story myself. Read the text and draw and try and add something to
:06:47. > :06:53.the text. I will try and do it justice. Well done. The characters
:06:53. > :06:58.have inspired me to finish illustrating my story. If you want
:06:58. > :07:07.to read the final story, just head to the Blue Peter website. And that
:07:07. > :07:12.address is: Take a look at these. You should recognise them as book
:07:12. > :07:17.tokens, you will have been given them as part of World Book Day, if
:07:17. > :07:22.you still have them you only have until the end of this month to get
:07:22. > :07:27.them spent. Still to come: Dick and Dom will be here, they are taking
:07:27. > :07:32.about their new show and they have a Blue Peter challenge to complete.
:07:32. > :07:35.You won't want to miss it. This week is climate week which means we
:07:35. > :07:38.are raising awareness for environmental issue, the food we
:07:39. > :07:43.eat can sometimes be harmful for the planet. Before the food hits
:07:43. > :07:46.the shelve, there is a process, it has been packaged and transported,
:07:46. > :07:50.sometimes a long way, this can create gases like carbon dioxide,
:07:50. > :07:56.which are harmful for the planet. So the question is, is it possible
:07:56. > :07:59.to create an environment live friendly meal that is good for the
:07:59. > :08:08.planet? Myself and Aaron Craze were set a Blue Peter challenge to find
:08:08. > :08:12.out and it all happened in this telly. It is a culinary clash never
:08:12. > :08:19.before seen on UK television. Blue Peter presenter and amateur cook
:08:19. > :08:23.Barney Harwood, is going head-to- head, against Aaron Craze, host of
:08:23. > :08:30.Junior Bake Off and a very good chef indeed. Their mission, to
:08:30. > :08:35.create the tastiest meal they can, but using the lowest carbon. Barney
:08:35. > :08:39.Rubble, you're in trouble. I am feeling confident. They will have
:08:39. > :08:43.30 minutes to impress the judges. Cooking doesn't get more
:08:43. > :08:46.environmentally-friendly than this. Before we can let the rivals into
:08:46. > :08:51.the kitchen, they need to source the ingredients for their final
:08:51. > :08:56.plate of food. First to take to the supermarket is Barney Harwood. He
:08:56. > :09:00.knows exactly what is on his menu. I am going for fish, chips and
:09:00. > :09:06.mushy peace. It has to be low in carbon. Potatoes come out of the
:09:06. > :09:12.ground and fish comes out the sea and peas grow on pea trees! So the
:09:12. > :09:17.most low carbon male you have heard of. These are British white
:09:17. > :09:20.potatoes, they are good for my dish and the planet. The most carbon
:09:20. > :09:24.efficient veg are those grown in season on home soil. They have the
:09:24. > :09:30.least far to travel, meaning less fuel is burned. So British spuds
:09:30. > :09:34.are a good choice Barney. But as it happens not all veg are good for
:09:34. > :09:37.the climate. At certain times of the year some more exotic veg can't
:09:37. > :09:42.grow in the UK. This means they have to be flown over from other
:09:42. > :09:46.country, to get them on to the supermarket shelves while they are
:09:46. > :09:52.stel fresh. Since fuel from planes creates carbon dioxide, it is not
:09:52. > :09:58.good for the environment. Meanwhile opponent and top chef Aaron Craze
:09:58. > :10:02.has decided on his menu. I am going to do a stir-fry. First I will need
:10:02. > :10:06.chicken. I have come to this aisle where you have mini fillets and
:10:06. > :10:12.they are perfect. I don't think it is going to travel too far. Can't
:10:12. > :10:15.get more British than that flag. meat is carbon free but at least
:10:15. > :10:21.Aaron has chosen chicken instead of beef or lamb. They are both higher
:10:21. > :10:25.in carbon for a reason you might not expect. When cows and sheep
:10:25. > :10:29.burp they give off methane which is involved in global warming. Some
:10:29. > :10:33.say if we ate less beef and lamb there would be less damage to the
:10:33. > :10:38.environment. So this extreme low carbon challenge isn't as
:10:38. > :10:44.straightforward as they first thought. Barney has chosen to cook
:10:44. > :10:48.fish and chips in the hope that local ingredients equal planet
:10:48. > :10:53.friendly. An Aaron has gone oriental with a chicken stir-fry
:10:53. > :11:00.since he showed British chicken has a low carbon footprint. Because I
:11:00. > :11:08.am making my own batter, I am going to need my milk. How much carbon
:11:08. > :11:13.can yourself you use doing that? Cows equal methane. Six large eggs,
:11:13. > :11:22.in one piece. Beautiful. It is a small mistake for Aaron. The
:11:22. > :11:27.British eggs haven't travelled bar but nay have minimal packaging.
:11:27. > :11:32.Will Harwood make the same mistake with his home-made ketchup?
:11:32. > :11:39.process of making pacts probably use more energy so that might mean
:11:39. > :11:42.things in pacts are -- packets are less carbon efficient. Let us go
:11:42. > :11:47.without packets. Well done Barney, they are British and low in
:11:47. > :11:52.packaging but this isn't as easy as it might seem. It is not tomato
:11:52. > :11:58.season, so to get in in March they have to be grown under hot lamps
:11:58. > :12:02.and that burns energy. Supermarket shopping over, both contenders have
:12:02. > :12:07.avoided processed foods, so there is everything still to play for,
:12:08. > :12:13.but what has Aaron chosen for his final ingredient. I have the best
:12:13. > :12:20.kept secret in London. Right in the middle of the city on top of an
:12:20. > :12:24.organic supermarket. An urban roof garden. You don't get lower carbon
:12:24. > :12:28.than this. Growing veg locally in season means you can pick them
:12:28. > :12:36.fresh and they haven't travelled any distance at all. I have nice
:12:36. > :12:42.kale. These are early so they are tender. So they might nice. With
:12:42. > :12:45.With superfresh veg like that Aaron could have the edge. But wait a
:12:46. > :12:49.minute, what is Barney up to now? am at the fish market in London.
:12:49. > :12:55.This is the largest selection of fish you will find in the country.
:12:55. > :13:02.All I need to do is find a nice fish I can put a batter on. So long
:13:02. > :13:08.as you choose carefully. Fish are lower carbon since they doesn't
:13:08. > :13:12.burp methane but some are being over harvested. There is lots of
:13:12. > :13:16.whiting. Better still whiting can be caught close to home in the
:13:16. > :13:24.North Sea, so top markets for another low carbon choice.
:13:24. > :13:30.Beautiful. It S you are bang on Barney, that is lovely. I have a
:13:30. > :13:40.big one here. You sold it so well I am going to go for the whiting.
:13:40. > :13:50.
:13:50. > :13:53.it. I can't get it out. Oh. Oh! Thank you very much. I am sure I
:13:53. > :13:58.have got the lowest carbon environmentally-friendly fish in
:13:58. > :14:01.here, they are really tasty. All I have to do is cook them. I am over
:14:01. > :14:06.the moon with this box of treasures, there is so much to play with and
:14:06. > :14:13.it will be fantastic for my stir- fry. Barney, you a lot of work to
:14:13. > :14:19.do mate. Still to come. It is egg whisks at dawn as the competition
:14:19. > :14:24.hoth hots up. Who will be crowned the low carbon king of the kitchen?
:14:24. > :14:29.Stay tuned. I know who woifpbs course because I was there, you
:14:29. > :14:39.will are to stay tuned. Two people who are full of suprises and I am
:14:39. > :14:39.
:14:39. > :14:45.delighted to welcome them to the studio, it is Dick and Dom. Hello.
:14:45. > :14:53.Good to see you. Mind out dear. Mind out. How are you mate? No time
:14:53. > :15:00.for that. Why you here? You have a new show, we normally see you as
:15:00. > :15:04.the Diddys. You are used to seeing the Diddy Dick and Dom in a pink
:15:04. > :15:09.cupboard. Now eventually, Diddy Dick and Dom have come out of their
:15:09. > :15:14.cupboard and are Hollywood movie stars. Do they get the perks, in
:15:14. > :15:19.the girl friends, the house? any of that. I have a little friend
:15:19. > :15:24.here. We reenact many movie, we do a space film, a murder mystery film.
:15:24. > :15:29.We do the lot. So what happens, Diddy Dick and Dom on each episode
:15:29. > :15:38.turn up and go and watch the premier of their brand-new movie.
:15:38. > :15:42.We can show you a great clip. Have a look. Rb your nearest emergency
:15:42. > :15:48.exit maybe inside you. In the vent of us getting bored, sponge cakes
:15:48. > :15:58.will descend from above. And remember, to never ever press this
:15:58. > :16:08.
:16:08. > :16:14.Argh! Oh no. It is a disaster. Please, no more. The legends. It
:16:14. > :16:18.looks like so much fun to film. Ted Robins is involved. He becomes our
:16:18. > :16:23.agent. He gives us the money to fund the films. It was a good
:16:23. > :16:28.experience, we did it a different way, we used to do it our heads
:16:28. > :16:34.with puppet body, but this way, now what we do is have our body bus
:16:34. > :16:38.they super impose our heads so we look huge. We had to wear hot suits.
:16:38. > :16:48.So special effects which all movies have, and you have a great theme
:16:48. > :17:04.
:17:04. > :17:08.tune. We do. In homage to the best BLUE PETER THEME What a lovely
:17:08. > :17:13.reenactment it was. Those are the actual words for the theme tune.
:17:13. > :17:17.Now of course this makes you experts at all things Diddy. It is
:17:17. > :17:20.sometimes hard when you look at the TV or watch stars to tell how tall
:17:20. > :17:25.they are. It is that trick of the camera we have devised a game to
:17:25. > :17:30.see if you can tell all things Diddy from all things biggie.
:17:30. > :17:37.love a game. In that case it is time to play Who's The Diddy? As
:17:37. > :17:46.you can see, on the board here we have six celebrity faces, honestly.
:17:46. > :17:54.We have Robin Williams, we have Dominic Wood, Reece Witherspoon.
:17:54. > :18:00.David Hasselhoff, the hof. We can have Richard mechanic Court.
:18:00. > :18:03.that really me? We have Tom Cruise, if you look behind you you will see
:18:03. > :18:08.some bodies with heights on. We would like do you match the
:18:08. > :18:18.celebrity face with the body. You will have 45 seconds to do it and
:18:18. > :18:20.
:18:20. > :18:30.your time starts now: Second to last. Five foot five? You are
:18:30. > :18:31.
:18:31. > :18:41.smaller than that. Tom Cruise. Little man. She is lovely.
:18:41. > :18:47.
:18:47. > :18:52.think she is tall? How tall are you. I'm a big one. We have done it
:18:52. > :18:57.before time. That is the end of the game. I was about to fill five
:18:57. > :19:06.seconds in a professional mode. Here we have Tom Cruise who you
:19:06. > :19:15.thought was 5'two. That should have been Reece Witherspoon. Dominic you
:19:15. > :19:25.thought you were 5'5". I know I am. You thought Rees wither spoon was
:19:25. > :19:28.
:19:28. > :19:35.5'7". Richard McCourt, six foot four, no, he is not. You have got
:19:35. > :19:39.one two, three, just two right. Which isn't bad. I blame him.
:19:39. > :19:46.the meantime let us find out who wins the eco-food challenge, myself
:19:46. > :19:50.or the professional chef. You will be suprised. Previously in our
:19:50. > :19:55.culinary clash these two eco- warriors prepared for their kitchen
:19:55. > :20:02.battle. Barney has chosen to cook fish and chips with peas and kuch
:20:02. > :20:06.up and Aaron has planned a chicken stir-fry with superfresh veg and
:20:06. > :20:11.noodles. Now it is time for them to conjure up their eco-meals for two
:20:11. > :20:16.of the toughest judges in town. Freya was winner of the junior bake
:20:16. > :20:21.off but this time it is her turn to do the tasting. What I am looking
:20:21. > :20:27.for is a clean worktop and great output. Joining her to judge will
:20:27. > :20:32.be Mike, an expert in eco-friendly eating. He never fails to stop a
:20:32. > :20:37.high carbon food. I will be looking for seasonal redge stable --
:20:37. > :20:42.vegetables and not too much packaging. They will look for the
:20:42. > :20:48.most eco-friendly meal they can make. You have 35 minutes to knock
:20:48. > :20:52.up the meal of your choice. time starts now. I am feeling
:20:52. > :20:58.confident. I think everyone loves fish and chips, don't they. There
:20:58. > :21:08.is your key word. Fish, I reckon that is as low carbon as it gets ch
:21:08. > :21:10.
:21:10. > :21:18.Mine is carbon free. A box of veg. Less talking more cooking boys!
:21:18. > :21:25.First up for Barney is the ketchup. I am going to roast these. Aaron is
:21:25. > :21:31.pressing on with his noodles. it a good old fold and squash it
:21:31. > :21:37.back through the machine. Until it is like leather. They will roast
:21:37. > :21:44.for about 20 minutes. I want it nice and thin. Here we go. Go down
:21:44. > :21:50.one step at a time. With his ketchup under way Barney added mint
:21:50. > :21:57.and butt tore the peas as he prepares to pulp them. Time to mush
:21:57. > :22:03.them with my whizzy musher. Oh yeah. As ar rop preps the veg and chicken,
:22:03. > :22:11.he seems confident of a win. Barney Rubble, you're in trouble. How do
:22:11. > :22:17.you know when a tomato is roasted? Our chefs are making good proguess
:22:17. > :22:23.but what do the judges think? like the idea of the stir-fry but
:22:23. > :22:28.the fish and chips sounds good. Do you think the ingredients are eco-
:22:28. > :22:33.friendly. I am worried about the amount of chicken Aaron has put in
:22:33. > :22:38.and about Barney's tomatoes. Barney, you only have five minutes left.
:22:38. > :22:48.Ass in half of ten minutes, as in three minutes more than two. You
:22:48. > :22:54.
:22:54. > :23:01.better crack on with it. I will Tomato sauce is pretty much done.
:23:01. > :23:07.That is it. Have I forgotten anything? Your fish Barney.
:23:07. > :23:12.only have one minute left. What you doing to us Freya? Aaron is nearly
:23:12. > :23:17.finished. A bit of juice going. for the fish. It looks like Barney
:23:17. > :23:25.could be in for a battering. Fantastic. That is nearly done.
:23:25. > :23:35.That is ready. Here we go. Fish is ready. Times up guys, stop cooking
:23:35. > :23:41.
:23:41. > :23:49.now. Oh dear. Come on Barney! done. Beautiful. It is a good job
