7:50:04 > 7:50:06gadgets...

7:50:06 > 7:50:08and Conor Maynard.

7:50:08 > 7:50:10We give the inside story on lambing season

7:50:10 > 7:50:11in just a few minutes' time.

7:50:11 > 7:50:16This is iodine that we have to put on the lamb's umbilical cord,

7:50:16 > 7:50:18which is this bit here.

7:50:20 > 7:50:21Eugh.

7:50:21 > 7:50:22And it's never been seen on TV before,

7:50:22 > 7:50:25an exclusive competition to name the latest high tech gadget.

7:50:25 > 7:50:29That's coming up in less than ten minutes time.

7:50:29 > 7:50:31And he's the UK's answer to Justin Bieber,

7:50:31 > 7:50:34internet pop sensation Conor Maynard in 20 minutes time.

7:50:34 > 7:50:37He joins me live to answer your questions

7:50:37 > 7:50:39and perform his latest single.

7:50:55 > 7:50:59APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

7:50:59 > 7:51:01Thanks very much. Hello, how are you doing?

7:51:01 > 7:51:03You're watching Blue Peter, we are live and interactive.

7:51:03 > 7:51:07As you can see, Helen isn't here today. Get in!

7:51:07 > 7:51:10"Isn't Barney so cheeky off Blue Peter?" No, it's a good thing,

7:51:10 > 7:51:13it's not about me today, it's about you getting involved

7:51:13 > 7:51:15and asking questions to a very famous person

7:51:15 > 7:51:16who you're very exciting about.

7:51:16 > 7:51:19Conor Maynard is going to be right here in the studio.

7:51:19 > 7:51:21Would you like to ask him a question? You would,

7:51:21 > 7:51:22I can see you nodding.

7:51:22 > 7:51:25Here's the email address.

7:51:25 > 7:51:28Only email if you're watching on Thursday, but ask him anything

7:51:28 > 7:51:31you like and I'll ask as many as I can, and get them answered.

7:51:31 > 7:51:34Now, have you ever seen a lamb being born?

7:51:34 > 7:51:37Well, it's gross. And at this time of the year,

7:51:37 > 7:51:4113-year-old Ella Henson just takes it as part of her daily routine.

7:51:45 > 7:51:48ALARM CLOCK BEEPS

7:51:48 > 7:51:52I'm Ella Henson and this is Being Me during lambing season.

7:51:58 > 7:52:01Welcome to my family farm in Gloucestershire.

7:52:01 > 7:52:02We have 2,000 animals.

7:52:02 > 7:52:05But at the moment, there is one type of animal

7:52:05 > 7:52:06demanding our focus and attention.

7:52:06 > 7:52:11And that's these guys, the pregnant female sheep known as ewes.

7:52:11 > 7:52:14We're in the middle of one of our most important and busiest times

7:52:14 > 7:52:16on the farming calendar - lambing season.

7:52:16 > 7:52:19So I help out before and after school, and at the weekend.

7:52:19 > 7:52:22Lambing season officially started on our farm on March the 12th,

7:52:22 > 7:52:25but it's different for other farmers in parts of the country.

7:52:25 > 7:52:28These lambs were born a few days ago,

7:52:28 > 7:52:30and I spend a lot of time helping to take care of them.

7:52:30 > 7:52:33SHEEP BLEATS

7:52:33 > 7:52:34Hi, Ella, how's it going?

7:52:34 > 7:52:36This is my dad.

7:52:36 > 7:52:39You might recognise him from the TV show Countryfile, but to me,

7:52:39 > 7:52:42he's just my dad and an amazing farmer.

7:52:42 > 7:52:44- Is there anything lambing? - No, not at the moment.

7:52:44 > 7:52:47- Well, you can come and do this iodine while I put the hay round.- OK.

7:52:47 > 7:52:49- It's just on the rack there, OK?- OK.

7:52:51 > 7:52:56This is iodine that we have to put on the lamb's umbilical cord,

7:52:56 > 7:52:58which is this bit here.

7:52:58 > 7:53:02And when it dries up, it will fall off and form a belly button.

7:53:02 > 7:53:05This'll stop any infection from getting through the belly button.

7:53:07 > 7:53:08OK.

7:53:11 > 7:53:13This is colostrum,

7:53:13 > 7:53:16which is milk that the mother first produces.

7:53:16 > 7:53:17It's really important for the lamb,

7:53:17 > 7:53:20because it has lots of vitamins and minerals in.

7:53:20 > 7:53:21It's like a special medicine.

7:53:21 > 7:53:25The newborns should start suckling milk from the mother's teats.

7:53:25 > 7:53:28But we need to lend a hand to point them in the right direction.

7:53:28 > 7:53:32However, even this doesn't always work.

7:53:32 > 7:53:33These are lambs me and Dad will bottle feed.

7:53:33 > 7:53:36It's a beautiful day now, so we're going to take them outside.

7:53:36 > 7:53:38There we go, there's your bottle.

7:53:40 > 7:53:42- Do you enjoy doing this? - Best part of the job.

7:53:42 > 7:53:46Ella and her dad can't enjoy the sunshine for too long,

7:53:46 > 7:53:48because they must start preparing for the newborn lambs.

7:53:48 > 7:53:51Well, ewes can give birth any time,

7:53:51 > 7:53:53and so me and my dad have to do quite a few checks.

7:53:54 > 7:53:57There's a few signs to show that the ewes might be giving birth.

7:53:57 > 7:54:00They paw the ground, get restless, lie on their sides,

7:54:00 > 7:54:02and they move around a lot.

7:54:02 > 7:54:04These ewes were scanned halfway through the pregnancy,

7:54:04 > 7:54:06and do you know what the dots mean?

7:54:06 > 7:54:07The red dot means they have a single.

7:54:07 > 7:54:10No dots mean that they have two,

7:54:10 > 7:54:12and the green dot means they have three.

7:54:12 > 7:54:14This can help us, because the more lambs they have,

7:54:14 > 7:54:15the more food they need.

7:54:15 > 7:54:19To keep these ewes healthy, we have to give them sheep nuts,

7:54:19 > 7:54:22hay, fresh bedding and fresh water.

7:54:24 > 7:54:28While you're doing the bedding down, I've got some questions here,

7:54:28 > 7:54:29from the Blue Peter viewers.

7:54:29 > 7:54:31So, Purple Spotty Impala asks,

7:54:31 > 7:54:34"What's your favourite animal on the farm, and why?"

7:54:34 > 7:54:38Well, um, I like all of the babies on the farm, really,

7:54:38 > 7:54:41like all of the lambs and the calves and... Yeah.

7:54:41 > 7:54:44All of the little ones.

7:54:44 > 7:54:46Quartz laughing panda asks,

7:54:46 > 7:54:49"Ella, when you were collecting the eggs from the chickens,

7:54:49 > 7:54:52"have you ever got covered in egg?"

7:54:52 > 7:54:55I haven't been covered in egg yet, but there's always a first time!

7:54:57 > 7:54:59Sheep can give birth at any time of the day,

7:54:59 > 7:55:01so there has to be someone here all the time.

7:55:01 > 7:55:04There's myself, my dad or some other shepherds that come and help.

7:55:04 > 7:55:08However, sometimes it can be a long wait before anything happens.

7:55:10 > 7:55:13This ewe's got the first few signs of going into labour.

7:55:13 > 7:55:14She's got the bubble.

7:55:18 > 7:55:21It's important that we're here to help out with the birth,

7:55:21 > 7:55:23because lots of things can go wrong,

7:55:23 > 7:55:26and we don't want to lose either the precious baby or its mother.

7:55:26 > 7:55:28And lift it up. That's it. Clear its nose.

7:55:35 > 7:55:37That's one healthy little lamb.

7:55:38 > 7:55:41Well, this is the miracle of lambing.

7:55:41 > 7:55:42Aw, so cute!

7:55:43 > 7:55:46- Not sure about the name, though. - That's me done for today,

7:55:46 > 7:55:49but there's always work to be done on the farm. See you guys later.

7:55:53 > 7:55:56Ah, I like it when things are cute and cuddly on this show.

7:55:56 > 7:55:59Loads more still to come, it's very exciting. Take a look.

7:55:59 > 7:56:02Conor Maynard is 19 years old, he's an internet pop sensation

7:56:02 > 7:56:04and he's going to be in the studio

7:56:04 > 7:56:07performing his latest single and answering your questions.

7:56:07 > 7:56:09Excited!

7:56:09 > 7:56:12Also, we're going to be giving you a tour of the latest superbus

7:56:12 > 7:56:14to hit the streets of London.

7:56:17 > 7:56:20Now, though, high tech gadgetry. I cannot wait for this bit.

7:56:20 > 7:56:24This is so exclusive, the biggest newspapers aren't even allowed

7:56:24 > 7:56:26to write about it yet, and we have got another exclusive,

7:56:26 > 7:56:28and this is a competition for you

7:56:28 > 7:56:30to design and name this brand new gadget.

7:56:30 > 7:56:32And here it is.

7:56:32 > 7:56:34Now, you may think you know what it is already,

7:56:34 > 7:56:36but I think you're going to be surprised. Watch this.

7:56:40 > 7:56:44i-Pads, Xboxes, Freeview and Raspberry Pis.

7:56:44 > 7:56:47What have they all got in common?

7:56:47 > 7:56:50Yes, they're all gadgets. But more importantly, they're memorable

7:56:50 > 7:56:52because of their distinctive and rather cool names.

7:56:52 > 7:56:57It seems that if you're launching the latest piece of technology,

7:56:57 > 7:57:00finding the right name is almost as important as the kit itself.

7:57:04 > 7:57:07So, what's this amazing piece of high tech kit called?

7:57:10 > 7:57:12The UAV, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

7:57:12 > 7:57:14It's not that catchy, is it?

7:57:16 > 7:57:18Well, that's all set to change,

7:57:18 > 7:57:21because we are offering you the chance to come up with a name

7:57:21 > 7:57:23for this type of futuristic gadget.

7:57:25 > 7:57:30The UAV has been produced by Southampton University, for the BBC.

7:57:30 > 7:57:33It's a super-sized, radio-controlled plane that takes aerial footage

7:57:33 > 7:57:37using an on-board camera which can be controlled from the ground

7:57:37 > 7:57:38using a joystick.

7:57:38 > 7:57:42Nicholas Pink's helped plan the plane for the BBC.

7:57:42 > 7:57:46On-board the plane itself is a really great autopilot system.

7:57:46 > 7:57:49and though we have a pilot on the ground, we're able to send the plane

7:57:49 > 7:57:52up in the air and it looks after itself,

7:57:52 > 7:57:54keeping it level and flying well.

7:57:54 > 7:57:57The UAV's on-board camera

7:57:57 > 7:58:00can turn to track whatever it's filming on the ground.

7:58:00 > 7:58:03Pictures from the camera are then relayed back down to the ground,

7:58:03 > 7:58:05so they can be beamed straight into your home.

7:58:05 > 7:58:08It's hoped the plane will be able to take aerial footage

7:58:08 > 7:58:11for TV programmes, and things like massive music events.

7:58:12 > 7:58:15And this extraordinary plane was made

7:58:15 > 7:58:17in a pretty extraordinary way too.

7:58:17 > 7:58:20We've got the fuselage itself. This has all been 3D printed.

7:58:20 > 7:58:243D printing is the most cutting-edge way to make a new product.

7:58:24 > 7:58:27A solid object is painstakingly printed, layer by layer.

7:58:27 > 7:58:30And because each is as thin as a human hair,

7:58:30 > 7:58:33it takes a long time to print even a small piece.

7:58:33 > 7:58:35This plane is made of nylon plastic,

7:58:35 > 7:58:39and it's main body was printed in around 6,000 individual layers,

7:58:39 > 7:58:41taking 24 hours.

7:58:41 > 7:58:44While the plane might look pretty finished,

7:58:44 > 7:58:45there's still something missing.

7:58:45 > 7:58:48We have no name, and we have no decoration for it,

7:58:48 > 7:58:51and it needs to look much better.

7:58:51 > 7:58:53So, please, Blue Peter. Help us out.

7:58:55 > 7:58:57You want one, don't you? I do too.

7:58:57 > 7:58:59Well, before we start to talk about the competition,

7:58:59 > 7:59:02let me show you one of the cool features of this plane.

7:59:02 > 7:59:04It's under the nose, right here, and I love it,

7:59:04 > 7:59:07cos you can control it with this transmitter. It's the camera.

7:59:07 > 7:59:10It does everything you'd expect to do if you were holding on to one.

7:59:10 > 7:59:12It goes left and right. It goes up and down.

7:59:12 > 7:59:16But my favourite feature is this one.

7:59:16 > 7:59:17The camera rotates left and right,

7:59:17 > 7:59:20much like a steering wheel would move.

7:59:20 > 7:59:22The reason it does that is because when the wind hits

7:59:22 > 7:59:24the underside of the wing, it tilts to one side, doesn't it?

7:59:24 > 7:59:26It either goes left or right.

7:59:26 > 7:59:28If this was filming something at the time,

7:59:28 > 7:59:30the picture on your TV would make you feel a little bit seasick.

7:59:30 > 7:59:33They've thought about that. Because that camera rotates both ways,

7:59:33 > 7:59:36it compensates and keeps the picture perfectly steady.

7:59:36 > 7:59:37It's such a cool thing.

7:59:37 > 7:59:40And what's even better about this is that you get to name

7:59:40 > 7:59:42and design this brand new, high tech gadget.

7:59:42 > 7:59:44Let's talk about the name first.

7:59:44 > 7:59:47It can't be something like Eric or Jeff, cos that's boring and rubbish.

7:59:47 > 7:59:50We want funky names like iPad, smartphone, Freeview,

7:59:50 > 7:59:53because they sound cool and also tell you about what the gadget does.

7:59:53 > 7:59:56So think about that when you're naming it. Also, the design.

7:59:56 > 7:59:59Two sections to this, really. You've got the top of the plane,

7:59:59 > 8:00:01which is the obvious bit, but don't forget the underside,

8:00:01 > 8:00:03because when this flies overhead,

8:00:03 > 8:00:05that's the bit you see from the ground.

8:00:05 > 8:00:08What you need to do is download this from the Blue Peter website.

8:00:08 > 8:00:10It's a template for your design, basically.

8:00:10 > 8:00:11There's a top and bottom section,

8:00:11 > 8:00:13and there's a little space in the middle

8:00:13 > 8:00:16for you to put your brand new name for this brand new gadget.

8:00:16 > 8:00:19Two ways to get involved. You can actually send it by post

8:00:19 > 8:00:21to the Blue Peter Plane Competition...

8:00:24 > 8:00:26Or you can scan your template design

8:00:26 > 8:00:27and email it to...

8:00:30 > 8:00:32Just one entry per person.

8:00:32 > 8:00:34You've got until 9am on the 8th of May,

8:00:34 > 8:00:37and you need to be aged between 6 and 12 years old.

8:00:37 > 8:00:39All the terms and conditions are on the website,

8:00:39 > 8:00:41so make sure you check them out. And the best of luck.

8:00:41 > 8:00:44Don't forget, Conor Maynard is going to be here

8:00:44 > 8:00:46performing his latest single and answering your questions.

8:00:46 > 8:00:48But first, check this out.

8:00:48 > 8:00:51A few months ago, I went to test drive the biggest thing

8:00:51 > 8:00:53to hit the streets of London.

8:01:05 > 8:01:08Thank you. Thanks very much.

8:01:08 > 8:01:10Oh, hi.

8:01:10 > 8:01:12So, as you can see, today I am visiting a place

8:01:12 > 8:01:16that is so top secret, it was built completely out of sight,

8:01:16 > 8:01:19so that nobody can see what goes on inside.

8:01:19 > 8:01:22The people here do everything they can to find and eliminate weakness,

8:01:22 > 8:01:26and security here is tighter than Jedward's trousers.

8:01:26 > 8:01:31This is Millbrook, a 700 acre vehicle assault course,

8:01:31 > 8:01:35with 70 km of test track, consisting of the most extreme twists,

8:01:35 > 8:01:39bumps and corners, designed to find flaws in every type of land vehicle.

8:01:39 > 8:01:42This is where car manufacturers test their newest vehicles

8:01:42 > 8:01:47to their absolute limits, before they can be unveiled to the public.

8:01:47 > 8:01:49This proving ground has had some pretty impressive guests

8:01:49 > 8:01:53over the years. 007, James Bond rolled his Aston Martin here

8:01:53 > 8:01:55in the film, Casino Royale.

8:01:55 > 8:01:58It's also where Top Gear have filmed some of their most punishing stunts.

8:01:58 > 8:02:0265, 66!

8:02:02 > 8:02:05- Here we go.- 69! Yes!

8:02:07 > 8:02:13But compared to what I'm testing today, cars are simply small fry.

8:02:14 > 8:02:18This is the latest addition to London's transport network,

8:02:18 > 8:02:23the new bus for London, a 2012 reworking of the iconic Routemaster.

8:02:25 > 8:02:28The old Routemaster was taken out of service in 2005.

8:02:28 > 8:02:31But due to popular demand by Brits and tourists,

8:02:31 > 8:02:34it's been redesigned and revamped, and it's back.

8:02:34 > 8:02:35The guy sitting in the seat is Darren.

8:02:35 > 8:02:37He's a principal engineer.

8:02:37 > 8:02:39Darren, let's start with the most important question.

8:02:39 > 8:02:43It's a bus for London, but it's not red. What's going on?

8:02:43 > 8:02:46Well, it's a prototype. We're just using it for testing.

8:02:46 > 8:02:48Once we've put it through its paces,

8:02:48 > 8:02:51- it'll be painted red and have all its stickers on.- Oh, wow.

8:02:51 > 8:02:54Well, you can see straight away that it's no ordinary bus,

8:02:54 > 8:02:57I mean, it's made of wood, for starters.

8:02:57 > 8:03:00And there's no seats for the passengers, what's all that?

8:03:00 > 8:03:03Well, we can't use real passengers when we're testing it.

8:03:03 > 8:03:05What we do is use the gravel bottles

8:03:05 > 8:03:07and the water dummies to simulate the people.

8:03:07 > 8:03:10But this bus is as heavy as it will ever be in service.

8:03:10 > 8:03:13At the moment, we're doing durability testing on the vehicle.

8:03:13 > 8:03:15We're trying to put as many miles on as possible,

8:03:15 > 8:03:18so we are trying to break it, scientifically.

8:03:18 > 8:03:21- We'd like you to help us with that. - Bring it on.

8:03:21 > 8:03:23But before they let me loose on the bus,

8:03:23 > 8:03:26they need to test my driving skills in a car.

8:03:26 > 8:03:30I need to prove that I can handle their most challenging courses...

8:03:30 > 8:03:32- Turn left, turn left.- Whoa.

8:03:32 > 8:03:34..perform an emergency stop on command...

8:03:34 > 8:03:37Push that peddle further forward.

8:03:39 > 8:03:41..and master the High-Speed Bowl.

8:03:41 > 8:03:43When you've got to 100 mph,

8:03:43 > 8:03:45take your hands off the steering wheel

8:03:45 > 8:03:49- and the car will drive round all on its own.- What?

8:03:49 > 8:03:51Centrifugal force and gravity cancel each other out,

8:03:51 > 8:03:54and it will sit in this lane at 100 mph.

8:03:54 > 8:03:57It's called the neutral steer speed. Hands off the wheel.

8:03:57 > 8:04:00- It'll drive round all day... - Ah!- ..at that speed.

8:04:02 > 8:04:06That's incredible. No hands on the steering wheel!

8:04:06 > 8:04:09I thought Barney's driving was really good.

8:04:09 > 8:04:11He showed competence behind the wheel,

8:04:11 > 8:04:13and his emergency stop was superb.

8:04:13 > 8:04:17I'm more than happy to let Barney loose on the bus now.

8:04:17 > 8:04:20The new London bus will join the 8,500 buses

8:04:20 > 8:04:23already in the UK's capital city.

8:04:23 > 8:04:28That makes up almost half of all bus journeys in the whole of England.

8:04:28 > 8:04:30So to make sure the new bus is completely reliable,

8:04:30 > 8:04:33it's been going through a gruelling testing regime 24 hours a day,

8:04:33 > 8:04:357 days a week.

8:04:35 > 8:04:38So, under the watchful eye of instructor Malcolm,

8:04:38 > 8:04:41I'm about to get a taste of what this bus has been through

8:04:41 > 8:04:43over the last few months.

8:04:44 > 8:04:47Test track 1, the High-Speed Bowl,

8:04:47 > 8:04:51a course designed to test the bus's performance at high speeds.

8:04:53 > 8:04:55It's quite an amazing feeling driving a bus.

8:04:55 > 8:04:59- You're quite high up.- Yeah. - You've got a massive windscreen.

8:04:59 > 8:05:02We're doing 45 now. It's not the speed that feels quick,

8:05:02 > 8:05:04it's the fact that you know that should you need to stop,

8:05:04 > 8:05:07you've got all that weight behind you as well.

8:05:07 > 8:05:09So it may not go as fast as a car,

8:05:09 > 8:05:12but considering how big this thing is, it's a very smooth ride.

8:05:12 > 8:05:15And I am loving it!

8:05:15 > 8:05:17You really do feel like king of the road, don't you,

8:05:17 > 8:05:18when you're in a bus?

8:05:18 > 8:05:21Test track 2, the City Course,

8:05:21 > 8:05:24a track which simulates the tight corners

8:05:24 > 8:05:28and narrow roads the bus will be forced to negotiate in London.

8:05:30 > 8:05:32These roads are so tight and so winding,

8:05:32 > 8:05:35but when you think about driving something that's this long,

8:05:35 > 8:05:37you can't take corners like you would in a car.

8:05:37 > 8:05:43The back of the bus is 11 and a bit metres that way, behind me.

8:05:43 > 8:05:46Actually driving this bus in London, I think would terrify me,

8:05:46 > 8:05:48cos you've got such tight spaces to get it through.

8:05:48 > 8:05:51There are other people on the road, you've got taxi drivers.

8:05:51 > 8:05:54It must be an absolute nightmare driving a bus in London.

8:05:55 > 8:05:58So, apart from one minor mistake from me...

8:05:58 > 8:06:01Whoa, sorry, I'm on the gravel.

8:06:01 > 8:06:04..the bus is handling the tight twists and turns

8:06:04 > 8:06:05even with a novice behind the wheel.

8:06:05 > 8:06:09I might be a bus driver. I've decided I want to be a bus driver.

8:06:09 > 8:06:13Test track 3, the dreaded Belgian Pave,

8:06:13 > 8:06:16a treacherous stretch of jolts and jerks

8:06:16 > 8:06:18which will shake the bus to its very core.

8:06:21 > 8:06:23Wo-ho-ho-ho.

8:06:25 > 8:06:27Everything is literally shaking.

8:06:27 > 8:06:30If you had a dashboard here, everything would just fall off it,

8:06:30 > 8:06:32because it's so rough.

8:06:32 > 8:06:34I could do this all day. I'm loving this.

8:06:36 > 8:06:40I'm not sure I'd be loving it quite so much if I was a passenger though.

8:06:40 > 8:06:44Let's hope there aren't too many roads in London like this.

8:06:44 > 8:06:46So, I've driven the bus at high speeds,

8:06:46 > 8:06:48round tight turns,

8:06:48 > 8:06:50and even given it a good old shake.

8:06:50 > 8:06:52And in my opinion,

8:06:52 > 8:06:55it definitely deserves the Barney Seal Of Approval.

8:06:58 > 8:07:01And as we arrive into the piazza here at Media City in Salford,

8:07:01 > 8:07:05I'd like to introduce you to the finished, red Routemaster bus.

8:07:05 > 8:07:07I'm on it, by the way, through the big window. Hello.

8:07:07 > 8:07:10This really is a feat of engineering, it's incredible.

8:07:10 > 8:07:13It uses the latest in green engine technology, it has two engines.

8:07:13 > 8:07:15It has an electric one and a diesel one.

8:07:15 > 8:07:18It drives on electric normally, and when the battery's run down,

8:07:18 > 8:07:20the diesel kicks in and charges it back up.

8:07:20 > 8:07:23It really is the most economical bus of its kind.

8:07:23 > 8:07:26It emits half the CO2 of the current diesel bus,

8:07:26 > 8:07:29it's the first bus in 50 years to be designed specifically

8:07:29 > 8:07:30for the streets of London,

8:07:30 > 8:07:33and very soon there are going to be seven more of these.

8:07:33 > 8:07:35If we get the doors open, I can show you on-site.

8:07:35 > 8:07:38This is Bobby, the driver. We've got a steering wheel and horn.

8:07:38 > 8:07:40- HORN HONKS - If you hear that, get out the way.

8:07:40 > 8:07:43It's got two staircases, one at the front and one at the back.

8:07:43 > 8:07:46This helps with the efficiency of the hop-on, hop-off system

8:07:46 > 8:07:49that the Routemaster is famous for.

8:07:49 > 8:07:52Because it is reported that 6.4 million people

8:07:52 > 8:07:54use buses in London every single day,

8:07:54 > 8:07:56so it needs to be made of strong stuff.

8:07:56 > 8:07:58Which it is. Follow me to the back.

8:07:58 > 8:08:02The whole rear of this bus is made from the same composite material

8:08:02 > 8:08:06they use in Formula 1, which I'm very excited about,

8:08:06 > 8:08:08cos that makes it light and strong.

8:08:08 > 8:08:12Up to 45,000 people use this bus's route every single day.

8:08:12 > 8:08:15That's a lot of footfall. Which has been thought about as well.

8:08:15 > 8:08:19If you look at the floor, you'll see this is a very non-slip material.

8:08:19 > 8:08:22It isn't normally seen on a bus, you normally see this on a posh boat.

8:08:22 > 8:08:24It really is the future of driving. And it's open at the back,

8:08:24 > 8:08:26which means you can hop on and hop off.

8:08:26 > 8:08:29It really is incredible. And I've been waiting to do this all day.

8:08:29 > 8:08:31- It's all yours, Bobby. - BELL RINGS

8:08:31 > 8:08:35Even the bell's wireless. I want one.

8:08:35 > 8:08:38I really do say, "it really is" quite a lot, don't I?

8:08:38 > 8:08:41But it really is quite exciting, but not as exciting as the next guest.

8:08:41 > 8:08:44Before I introduce him, if you're visiting the capital city,

8:08:44 > 8:08:46you can see that bus on the streets of London.

8:08:46 > 8:08:50Now, though, you've been wanting to speak to him all week.

8:08:50 > 8:08:51He's 19 years old,

8:08:51 > 8:08:54he's an international popstar from the internet.

8:08:54 > 8:08:57Everybody please welcome Conor Maynard.

8:08:57 > 8:09:00CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

8:09:00 > 8:09:03- How you doing? Good to see you, welcome to the show.- Thank you.

8:09:03 > 8:09:06Take a seat. So, before we go any further, it's your first appearance,

8:09:06 > 8:09:08and so you need to stick that on.

8:09:08 > 8:09:11- Oh, my mum's going to be so proud. - Nice moment, isn't it?

8:09:11 > 8:09:13I'm going to quit music tomorrow. This is it.

8:09:13 > 8:09:16Already? You don't need to, look how well you're doing.

8:09:16 > 8:09:18Let's talk about where it started, though.

8:09:18 > 8:09:20It's gone so fast and quick and you're already a superstar,

8:09:20 > 8:09:22and it's not been that long, has it?

8:09:22 > 8:09:26No, it hasn't, I mean, obviously for me, it's been a long time coming,

8:09:26 > 8:09:28because I've been working on it for so long.

8:09:28 > 8:09:31But things have got very exciting recently.

8:09:31 > 8:09:34So, you know, I'm taking it as it comes and seeing what comes next.

8:09:34 > 8:09:35Where did it start?

8:09:35 > 8:09:38I was kind of walking down the road after school one day.

8:09:38 > 8:09:39I was singing with my friends,

8:09:39 > 8:09:43and this girl a few paces ahead of me overhead, and ran up to me

8:09:43 > 8:09:44and said, "You can sing!"

8:09:44 > 8:09:47And then, yeah, she made me sing to some people at school,

8:09:47 > 8:09:49so I started recording covers for YouTube,

8:09:49 > 8:09:50so everyone else could see them.

8:09:50 > 8:09:54And sure enough, I did a cover of Usher's OMG,

8:09:54 > 8:09:56which blew up. It got 100,000 views.

8:09:56 > 8:09:58Incredible, and this was just you at home

8:09:58 > 8:10:01recording something on a video camera and sticking it online?

8:10:01 > 8:10:03Yeah, it was all done in my room in Brighton.

8:10:03 > 8:10:07It's unbelievable really, isn't it? But let's get to where we are now.

8:10:07 > 8:10:10You are on the phone to the R'n'B superstar, Ne-Yo.

8:10:10 > 8:10:13- He called you, didn't he? - That was pretty crazy.

8:10:13 > 8:10:15Someone contacted me who knew Ne-Yo, and I was sceptical at first.

8:10:15 > 8:10:18I was like, "Is there any proof?" I didn't want to get to America

8:10:18 > 8:10:21and have my friends on the phone, like, "Got you!"

8:10:21 > 8:10:23I'd be like, "Thanks, guys(!)" But no, sure enough,

8:10:23 > 8:10:27I was sitting on Skype with Ne-Yo at 1am in the morning in my pyjamas,

8:10:27 > 8:10:30talking to him, because I asked for proof and there he was on Skype,

8:10:30 > 8:10:32and I was like, "Oh, it's real."

8:10:32 > 8:10:34But he's not the first American rapper.

8:10:34 > 8:10:35Pharrell, he sent you out to Miami.

8:10:35 > 8:10:38Yes, I went out to Miami to work with Pharrell on my first album,

8:10:38 > 8:10:39so it's been crazy.

8:10:39 > 8:10:42I've worked with some amazing people, inspirational people.

8:10:42 > 8:10:45That's already, you're at the start of your career, doing very well.

8:10:45 > 8:10:48Of course, lots of others have made the same kind of route

8:10:48 > 8:10:50that you're making now, via the internet.

8:10:50 > 8:10:52Lots of famous people have done the same thing.

8:10:52 > 8:10:54So we're going try and find out how much you know

8:10:54 > 8:10:57about their journey and about them as people.

8:10:57 > 8:11:00We've devised a game we'd like you to play, and it's called Face Facts.

8:11:00 > 8:11:03Follow me over here. It's very simple.

8:11:03 > 8:11:06You can see on those boards over there, there are four famous faces.

8:11:06 > 8:11:09You've got yourself, on the left hand side.

8:11:09 > 8:11:10You're famous cos you're good.

8:11:10 > 8:11:13Then, next up we've got Jamal Edwards, he created SBTV.

8:11:13 > 8:11:15Next to him, Justin Bieber,

8:11:15 > 8:11:18we all know what he's famous for - the floppiness of his fringe.

8:11:18 > 8:11:21and then Charlie McDonnell. He's a very famous blogger.

8:11:21 > 8:11:24Now, I have four individual facts,

8:11:24 > 8:11:26what you've got to do is match the fact with the face.

8:11:26 > 8:11:28It's why we call it Face Facts.

8:11:28 > 8:11:31You've got 30 seconds to do this. Are you ready?

8:11:31 > 8:11:32- Yes, I'm ready.- Time starts now.

8:11:32 > 8:11:36Who has a blog with 1,457,799 subscribers?

8:11:37 > 8:11:38Um... That is...

8:11:40 > 8:11:42- ..this guy. - You think it's Charlie?- Yes.

8:11:42 > 8:11:46Usher and Timberlake both wanted to sign this guy...

8:11:46 > 8:11:48Oh. Oh...

8:11:48 > 8:11:5020 seconds left.

8:11:50 > 8:11:55OK, he is number 77 on the 2011 Times' Young Power List.

8:11:55 > 8:11:57Oh, I want to say that's me.

8:11:57 > 8:11:59You never know, you've done everything else already.

8:11:59 > 8:12:00Three seconds left.

8:12:00 > 8:12:04- Do you want to stick that on to the person who's there?- Oh.

8:12:04 > 8:12:05That could become a Maynard,

8:12:05 > 8:12:08if you don't know that one, you are a loser.

8:12:08 > 8:12:09You are right about yourself,

8:12:09 > 8:12:12your video for your debut single has 4 million online views,

8:12:12 > 8:12:13that's incredible.

8:12:17 > 8:12:20Bieber got the offer from Usher and Timberlake,

8:12:21 > 8:12:25And Charlie's blog does have that many subscribers.

8:12:25 > 8:12:26Conor Maynard really knows his stuff.

8:12:26 > 8:12:29CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

8:12:29 > 8:12:32A little celebratory dance goes a long way, I have to say.

8:12:32 > 8:12:34Right, we've had so many people getting in touch,

8:12:34 > 8:12:38we've just got to go to our callers and get them to ask questions.

8:12:38 > 8:12:41- We're going to go to our video caller. Eloise, are you there?- Yeah.

8:12:41 > 8:12:45Hello, you smiley person, you're on telly and Conor's here.

8:12:45 > 8:12:46What's your question?

8:12:46 > 8:12:50If you could be an animal for a day, what would you be and why?

8:12:50 > 8:12:52If I could be an animal for a day?

8:12:52 > 8:12:54I'd probably be a lion.

8:12:54 > 8:12:57My favourite animals are lions, they always have been.

8:12:57 > 8:13:00I actually wanted to change my name to Leo, when I was like seven,

8:13:00 > 8:13:05and luckily I told my mum, and she laughed in my face.

8:13:05 > 8:13:07So, lucky I didn't do it.

8:13:07 > 8:13:11But that's how much I love lions, so I'd be a lion.

8:13:11 > 8:13:14- Lovely, thanks for your question, Eloise, see you later. - Thank you, Eloise.- Bye!

8:13:14 > 8:13:17Oh, she looks lovely, she got herself dressed up for telly.

8:13:27 > 8:13:29if you like Austin Mahone, you're called a Mahoney.

8:13:29 > 8:13:31What do you like to call your fans?

8:13:31 > 8:13:35My fans, they're called the Mayniacs.

8:13:35 > 8:13:38It's a play on my last name, obviously Maynard, Mayniacs

8:13:38 > 8:13:39spelt with a Y. That's their name.

8:13:39 > 8:13:45They chose that name and they definitely fit that name, sometimes.

8:13:45 > 8:13:47- Ella?- Yeah?- Are you a Mayniac?

8:13:47 > 8:13:49- Of course.- Well done.- Yes!

8:13:49 > 8:13:52Thanks for being on telly and for your question, we'll see you later.

8:13:52 > 8:13:54- OK, then, bye.- Bye.
