:00:15. > :00:20.Today, crazy chef Stefan Gates takes the ingredients of a kuch

:00:20. > :00:30.cake to a whole new level. -- cup cake to a whole new level. Sure you

:00:30. > :00:46.

:00:46. > :00:51.are ready for this?! It's going to Hello. Hello. As you can see,

:00:51. > :00:55.Barney is poised at this piano and he's going to be playing live for

:00:55. > :00:59.us. Don't worry, he has something much better up his sleeve than that

:00:59. > :01:04.which is seriously impressive. He's going to accompany a Britain's Got

:01:04. > :01:14.Talent star who's 13 and today he releases his first album. It's

:01:14. > :01:23.

:01:23. > :01:27.Ronan Parke. We danced there, we can't help it,

:01:27. > :01:33.we're excited. Make some noise for Ronan Parke.

:01:33. > :01:37.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Hello. Hi. Ronan! Welcome to the

:01:37. > :01:43.show. Thank you. Because it's your first time, before we get started,

:01:43. > :01:48.I have something to give to you. It's a Blue Peter badge. Argh.

:01:48. > :01:52.whiting is that? Shall I put it on for you? Yes. Tell us how it's been

:01:52. > :01:56.for you, one minute you are in a talent show, the next you are on

:01:56. > :01:59.Blue Peter, talk to us? It's been crazy but I'm having so much fun.

:01:59. > :02:05.Recording material, you are going on TV, do you still go to school?

:02:05. > :02:11.Yes, I still go to school quite a lot but when I'm away I have a

:02:11. > :02:15.tutor but it's harm term now so it's OK. Firework on your album,

:02:15. > :02:21.Edge of Glory, Lady Gaga, did you have a say on what was going to be

:02:21. > :02:26.on there? Yes, a lot of say, all of them are songs I like, so I hope

:02:26. > :02:29.people like it. I have to say, I love the song that you two will be

:02:29. > :02:34.performing for us later on. You've never performed together, in fact

:02:34. > :02:39.you've only just met a few hours ago. We are doing it live. How are

:02:39. > :02:44.you feeling? Nervous but excited. How are you feeling, do you trust

:02:44. > :02:48.him? Yes, yes. For now I want to tell you something, a couple of

:02:48. > :02:54.weeks ago, Stefan Gates was talking to us about this simple cup cake

:02:54. > :02:58.but it's got pink icing on it. You can make it pink by apparently

:02:58. > :03:02.mushing up dead insects and using their blood. He's going to take

:03:02. > :03:07.some more of these ingreedients and show us how explosive they are. You

:03:07. > :03:11.are going to love this. I'm Stefan Gates and if you have seen me on

:03:11. > :03:15.gastro nuts, you will know that I love cooking and am obsessed with

:03:15. > :03:21.the wild side of food, not only how it tastes but experimenting with it

:03:21. > :03:26.and pushing the boundaries of what food can do.

:03:26. > :03:31.And now I'm on a mission to expose the extreme side of one of the most

:03:31. > :03:37.popular baked goods of all, the sweet, humble cup cake.

:03:37. > :03:44.Last time I proved that the first three ingredients of cup cakes can

:03:44. > :03:53.be bizarre. So what goes into this to turn it pink? It's an insect.

:03:53. > :03:58.Unexpectedly strong. The strength is in the shells. Here we go. Oh,

:03:58. > :04:07.my word. And highly reactive. The Lemon juice is reacting with the

:04:07. > :04:13.bicarbonate of soda and releasing carbon dioxide. Now it's time to

:04:13. > :04:18.meet the cup cake bad boys. Icing sugar and flour. Are you sure

:04:18. > :04:22.you're ready for this?! Icing sugar. What does it do? The icing is there

:04:22. > :04:25.to give a lovely extra sweetness on top of the cake and it's made out

:04:25. > :04:31.top of the cake and it's made out of this stuff here, icing sugar.

:04:31. > :04:36.All that icing sugar is is normal sugar grind down into a fine powder.

:04:36. > :04:46.Looks boring, but it's packed full of energy. To show you the energy,

:04:46. > :04:47.

:04:47. > :04:54.I'm going to release it by burning I'll put a couple of spoonfuls into

:04:54. > :05:04.this apparatus. And then, I'm going to blow the icing sugar across a

:05:04. > :05:15.

:05:15. > :05:19.This fireball is the icing sugar being set on fire by the gas flame.

:05:20. > :05:25.The kind of sugar you put into tea wouldn't do this, icing sugar

:05:25. > :05:29.particles are tiny and powdery, so they burn quickly and violently. A

:05:29. > :05:33.lovely smell of toffee in the air now. All of that flame was all the

:05:33. > :05:36.energy in the icing sugar being released in one go. It's powerful

:05:36. > :05:42.stuff. It's not just icing sugar that

:05:42. > :05:46.reacts like this. Let's go extreme with the last extraordinary cup

:05:46. > :05:52.cake ingredients. It's flour. Looks boring doesn't it? But this stuff

:05:52. > :05:57.is immensely important. Billions of people eat products made with flour

:05:57. > :06:01.every day, it's in bread, cakes and it's thought to be the most ancient

:06:01. > :06:06.baking ingredient of all, first used about 11,000 years ago. But

:06:06. > :06:15.this stuff has one surprising extra element to it.

:06:15. > :06:19.It's highly explosive. Nour on its own like this is

:06:19. > :06:23.completely safe. -- flour. However, when you throw it up into the air,

:06:23. > :06:28.the energy is mixed with the oxygen in the air and all it takes in one

:06:28. > :06:33.spark to release all of the energy very fast and very violently.

:06:33. > :06:36.Inside flour is a nutrient called carbohydrate and that contains the

:06:36. > :06:40.energy released into our bodies when we eat it, or when it's blown

:06:40. > :06:44.up, which is exactly what's about to happen next. Now, I've never Don

:06:44. > :06:49.this before in my life. I've got no idea if it's going to work. But for

:06:50. > :06:54.my final experiment, I'm going to test the true power of flour in its

:06:54. > :06:58.most dangerous state. I've got two massive bags of plain flour, it's

:06:58. > :07:03.exactly the same sort of stuff used to make cup cakes. I'm going to see

:07:03. > :07:11.if we can blow this up. And if the heat of the explosion can be enough

:07:11. > :07:15.to melt some marshmallows and toast some cup cakes. I've recruited

:07:15. > :07:19.special effects designer Mark who's responsible for Big Bangs, dramatic

:07:19. > :07:24.stunts and flashy effects in loads of TV shows. It's a highly skilled

:07:24. > :07:29.job, requiring years of training, so Mark's the perfect man for a

:07:29. > :07:35.dangerous stunt like this. How are we going to go about this? I have a

:07:35. > :07:39.kilo of gunpowder here. We have to be quite quick to lift the flour

:07:39. > :07:44.into a dust suspension, these sparky bits will light the cloud of

:07:44. > :07:49.dust and give us a ball of flame. To work with gunpowder, you need a

:07:49. > :07:52.special licence issued by the police and Mark's got one.

:07:52. > :07:55.dispersing all the particles to the right kind of concentration and

:07:55. > :08:02.hopefully it will be flames going up to ignite it with the air and

:08:02. > :08:05.the oxygen around. Exactly. Sure about this? Yes. What can possibly

:08:05. > :08:10.go wrong?! Purely in the interests of science,

:08:10. > :08:13.I want to see a food that would normally get bake and towed like

:08:13. > :08:18.marshmallows and crumpets will be cooked by the heat of the explosion.

:08:18. > :08:22.And the other stuff? Well, I just fancied blowing them up. Do you

:08:22. > :08:28.reckon these will cook? Marshmallows possibly, I wouldn't

:08:28. > :08:32.count on the baked potato, to be honest. If all goes to plan, the

:08:32. > :08:37.gunpowder will blast into the air and sparks will ignite the flour

:08:37. > :08:41.cloud and make it explode into a lovely orangey fireball, hopefully

:08:41. > :08:46.cooking my food in the process. I'm so excited. It's like I've built

:08:46. > :08:50.the world's most dangerous oven. Everything's in place ready to go.

:08:50. > :09:00.I'm standing way back and my finger's on the detonator button.

:09:00. > :09:16.

:09:16. > :09:19.My heart's going quite fast now. OK, The red flame ball is the flour

:09:19. > :09:23.combusting at a super high speed. Now, the same energy release

:09:23. > :09:33.happens inside your body when you eat flour, but luckily it happens

:09:33. > :09:39.much more slowly inside you. That was enormous! This is carnage.

:09:39. > :09:48.Bits of stuff everywhere. There's a strong smell of burnt flour, I

:09:48. > :09:54.suppose. Did anything survive? The potato mad it all the way over here.

:09:54. > :10:04.It's kind of turned into tar. It has actually toasted my cup cake.

:10:04. > :10:06.

:10:06. > :10:11.Whether it's made it any better or not is another matter. Ah. Oh, look,

:10:11. > :10:17.that's actually a bit of obliterated marshmallow.

:10:17. > :10:23.Made it go very, very gooey. Look, here is another whole marshmallow.

:10:23. > :10:27.I would eat it, but it's covered in gunpowder. It's kind of intact

:10:27. > :10:33.though. I think that flew, rather than toasted.

:10:33. > :10:37.So there you go, five every day ingredients that turn out to be

:10:37. > :10:41.extraordinary. Pink icing made from crushed up

:10:41. > :10:51.insects, superbly structured eggs, strong enough to take my weight and

:10:51. > :10:53.

:10:53. > :11:00.more, bicarbonate of soda which reacts strangely with Lemon juice,

:11:00. > :11:10.icing sugar, sweet but deadly and plain old flour, essential for

:11:10. > :11:10.

:11:10. > :11:14.making cakes but has the explosive power of a bomb. All packed inside

:11:14. > :11:19.your sweet little cup cake. I don't know about you, but that's

:11:19. > :11:23.really made me want a toasted marshmallow. They were a bit more

:11:23. > :11:25.crispy than I'm used to. He looks mad but Stefan is a trained

:11:25. > :11:30.professional and takes every precaution to make sure everything

:11:30. > :11:34.he does is safe. Don't try that at home. He's mad in a good way. The

:11:34. > :11:40.reason he's been playing with the ingredients is that we are hoping

:11:40. > :11:43.to get you into the kitchen and hold bake sales. You have been out

:11:43. > :11:46.there holding your own sales and raising money for Children In Need.

:11:46. > :11:50.It's been happening for so long, we thought we'd show you one of the

:11:50. > :11:54.many bake sales that's been taking place.

:11:54. > :11:57.All across the country, lots of you have been getting involved with our

:11:57. > :12:03.Bake A Difference appeal. We are in Loughborough to check in on this

:12:03. > :12:09.school to see how they're getting on. We managed to sell cakes for

:12:09. > :12:16.Children In Need. And we are going to raise a lot of money. I think

:12:16. > :12:19.making cakes is a brilliant idea because everyone loves cakes.

:12:19. > :12:24.cake you sell makes a difference. With the money collected, we are

:12:24. > :12:28.going to help provide funds for children living with chronic or

:12:28. > :12:32.life-limiting ill nns the UK. To find out more about getting

:12:32. > :12:42.involved with the appeal, head to the Blue Peter website for more

:12:42. > :12:56.

:12:56. > :13:02.tips and recipes. Let's see how the We'll give you a discount.

:13:02. > :13:09.great. After a hard morning's work, they sold a whopping 50 cakes. I

:13:09. > :13:12.think that deserves a cheer. It really does. Thank you so much

:13:12. > :13:15.to everybody getting involved with the appeal this year, you are

:13:15. > :13:18.really making a massive difference to children's lives. Thank you so

:13:18. > :13:21.much. Only a couple of weeks left until Children In Need, so if you

:13:21. > :13:28.are thinking about having a bake sale, get cracking. Lots of you

:13:28. > :13:34.have been getting involved including Ella and Thiana. They did

:13:34. > :13:39.a sale and raised 83 selling over 200 items. Thank you, ladies.

:13:39. > :13:44.Connie and Jack held a sale outside their house with the amazing help

:13:44. > :13:47.of their friends and sold at least 50 fairy cakes, five big cakes,

:13:47. > :13:52.flap jacks and banana bread and lots more. The neighbours were

:13:52. > :13:57.great and donated cakes and together they raised a whopping

:13:58. > :14:03.110 in just two hours. Amazing. appreciate your efforts and are

:14:03. > :14:10.trying to give you a mention. Look out for some of your names and some

:14:10. > :14:15.of your pledges are scrolling across the screen now. These kids

:14:15. > :14:23.in Barnet baked cakes and raised some money. They enjoyed raising it

:14:23. > :14:24.and are proud to be sport and are proud to be sport

:14:24. > :14:32.and are proud to be sport supporting Children In Need.

:14:32. > :14:36.Mia is aged nine, one slash two. Nine-and-a-half. Started at 1

:14:36. > :14:41.o'clock, had loads of people calling in. She had a spotty table

:14:41. > :14:45.cloth like Pudsey. That's caught! She told everything and raised

:14:45. > :14:50.108.93. Impressive. Thank you so much. I think it's almost time to

:14:50. > :14:54.light up the totalliser. We are asking you how many items you

:14:54. > :15:04.pledge to bake and sell for Children In Need. Last week, we

:15:04. > :15:06.

:15:06. > :15:15.were at 14,000. Et us see how we are doing at the minute. Drum roll,

:15:15. > :15:20.please. The total number is... 23,099. That is incredible. Thank

:15:20. > :15:24.you so much. Keep baking, keep selling and keep letting us know

:15:24. > :15:28.what you are selling. We like it when we hear we've got 47 cakes, 25

:15:28. > :15:32.biscuits, you like the fruity and oaty bars, so keep your pledges

:15:32. > :15:36.coming in. Almost time for you and Ronan to perform for us. You are

:15:36. > :15:41.going to love it! And, if you've sent in a question for Ronan, stay

:15:41. > :15:44.tuned because some of you are going to be joining us via the magical

:15:44. > :15:50.means of technology to ask Ronan some questions. But before that,

:15:50. > :15:56.let's see what else is coming up in this series of Blue Peter.

:15:56. > :16:03.I'll be having a jiling and finding out why laughter rally is the best

:16:03. > :16:10.medicine -- jiggle. The stars of Young Dracula will be making

:16:10. > :16:14.gruesome goodies for Halloween. the wonderfully talented Pixie Lott

:16:14. > :16:23.will be here in the studio. So much to look forward to, so don't move

:16:23. > :16:26.your bums from those seats. like Pixie don't you? Great voice,

:16:26. > :16:31.great songs. You are chomping at the bit to speak to him and he's

:16:31. > :16:35.right here, it's Ronan Parke. How you doing? Good, thank you. We've

:16:35. > :16:40.loads of keen callers wanting to speak to you. Ready to answer some

:16:40. > :16:46.questions? Yes. Before we do that, I have to ask because lods of

:16:46. > :16:52.people have been asking, who do you think is going to win X Factor?

:16:52. > :16:55.have a favourite and I think she will win, it's Mica B. What is it

:16:55. > :16:58.like being in one of those competitions because everyone's

:16:58. > :17:02.watching and analysing everything you do? It's really nerve-racking

:17:02. > :17:06.but I guess because I have such a passion for music and singing, I

:17:06. > :17:10.just love doing it and wanted to do it more and more so...

:17:10. > :17:17.Let es get stuck into the calls because they are ready and waiting.

:17:17. > :17:26.Jake, are you there? Yes. Hi, Jake, that's got to be the girliest

:17:27. > :17:35.scream I have ever heard. Can I please just say happy birthday to

:17:35. > :17:42.my friend Poppy? You just did. Happy birthday, Poppy. What is your

:17:42. > :17:47.question, Jake? Hello. What is it like being on stage and like, do

:17:47. > :17:52.you get nervous in front of the cameras? It's great being on screen,

:17:52. > :17:56.it's all different to normal and it's just a great experience, but

:17:56. > :18:00.yes I do get really scared and nervous before I go on, but when I

:18:00. > :18:04.start singing it just really goes away really. Do you have any

:18:04. > :18:08.techniques to get rid of your nerves? It's just as soon as I get

:18:08. > :18:18.on and the crowd's reaction, it goes away really. Thank you very

:18:18. > :18:20.

:18:20. > :18:25.much for your question, Jake. Easy zi, are you there? -- Issie.

:18:25. > :18:28.Can I just say I'm a huge fan and I'm married to him so, if you could

:18:28. > :18:32.work with any celebrity who would it be and what style of song would

:18:32. > :18:37.you like to do with them? favourite artist is Lady Gaga, so

:18:37. > :18:42.it would probably be her and one of her songs is on my album and it's

:18:42. > :18:48.Edge of Glory so I think I would like to do that with her as a duet.

:18:48. > :18:55.A proper stomping anthem that one, isn't it, a great tune. Thank you

:18:56. > :19:00.Issie. Hi, Nadia, are you there? everyone. What is your question?

:19:00. > :19:05.question to Ronan is, what job do you see yourself doing in the next

:19:05. > :19:10.ten to 15 years? Well, when I really wanted to do singing, I

:19:10. > :19:13.thought I was going to be too nervous and I wouldn't be able to

:19:13. > :19:16.do it so I thought of a back up plan and thought that I would be a

:19:16. > :19:24.policeman. Loosely related, I suppose. You could sing people's

:19:24. > :19:34.fines to them. That would work! Nice! Amber, are you there? Yes.

:19:34. > :19:35.

:19:35. > :19:39.Amber, what is your question? PROBLEM WITH SOUND

:19:39. > :19:45.Are you near a TV with your phone, trouble with the sound there. Can

:19:45. > :19:49.you hear us? Yes. What is your question? Will being in the

:19:49. > :19:53.competition enable you to fulfil any of your other dreams? I've

:19:53. > :19:59.always wanted to do singing. Yeah, it's just I think being on stage

:19:59. > :20:05.and singing in front of lots and lots of people and I've experienced

:20:05. > :20:08.so many amazing things really, so yes. Nice question. Good answer.

:20:08. > :20:12.Thank you very much. We've had loads of you in touch.

:20:12. > :20:17.Thank you to everybody who got in touch. Now, I have to say, I'm

:20:17. > :20:23.excited about your performance. How are you feeling? Nervous but

:20:24. > :20:28.excited. That's all he ever says. That's what you are supposed to say.

:20:28. > :20:33.Over to your piano and microphone. On tomorrow's Blue Peter, you can

:20:33. > :20:37.find out how I got on when I went to Chester Zoo to feed the animals.

:20:37. > :20:43.They're cute, but very, very fussy creatures. And, if you are planning

:20:43. > :20:46.a Halloween party, then don't miss tomorrow's shows. We have got a

:20:46. > :20:51.make-up artist with some fantastic top tips. She's going to teach you

:20:51. > :20:55.how to make bruises, scratches, you name it, we've got it. But right

:20:55. > :21:01.now, we have an exclusive performance for you, performing

:21:01. > :21:11.live, two fantastic talents, very proud of them, it's Barney Howard

:21:11. > :21:12.

:21:12. > :21:18.# Making my way downtown # Walking fast

:21:18. > :21:21.# Faces pass # And I'm home bound

:21:21. > :21:28.# Staring blankly ahead # Just making my way

:21:28. > :21:33.# Making a way # Through the crowd

:21:33. > :21:39.# And I need you # And I miss you

:21:39. > :21:43.# And now I wonder.... # If I could fall

:21:43. > :21:47.#Into the sky # Do you think time # Would pass me by # 'Cause you know

:21:47. > :21:51.I'd walk # A thousand miles # If I could # Just see you # Tonight #

:21:51. > :21:55.It's always times like these # When I think of you # And I wonder # If

:21:55. > :22:01.you ever # Think of me # 'Cause everything's so wrong # And I don't

:22:01. > :22:11.belong # Living in your # Precious I miss you # And now I wonder.... #

:22:11. > :22:18.

:22:18. > :22:28.# And I, I, don't wanna let you know

:22:28. > :22:29.

:22:29. > :22:34.# I, I, drown in your memory # I, I, don't wanna let this go
